My first try at a wrestling dynasty, hopefully it won't be real bad.

Ken Lucas forms the HWA (Heartland Wrestling Association) in October 1982 out of a Small office in Cincinnati Ohio. He realizes that he is still under contract to Southeastern Championship Wrestling. He is making good money there, but thinks that starting his own federation would bring in the big money. He sets a date of January 1, 1983 to have all the talent in place for the debut show. The only place he can get for January is a small bar in Warren Michigan to put on his first show. The bad thing is the date that they gave him is going to conflict with a show that SECW is having. He is booked on that card and needs someone to book the opening show for his fledgling company. He doesn't want to spend money on a booker real bad, so he gets in contact with a friend out of Minnesota asking if he knows anyone who will work cheaply as a booker. His friend says that he does, a young adult who puts out a wrestling results paper once a month who is dying to get into the business. That's where I come in. I was that young adult. Mr. Lucas meets with me and tells me that he will hire me to book the shows, but he can override me at any point. He also says that he will fire me for any subordination. I gladly accept his terms and start working on our first show.

HWA has Popularity of 10% in Great Lakes and a Prestige Rating of 5%

HWA Revolt - Monday, Week 3 January 1983
Hot Rock Sports Bar in Warren MI
Attendance 65

Bobby Huffman vs. Bam Bam Bigelow (F)
These two Green rookies don't know how to work a match. They were pulling moves out of thin air and made the match look awful. The crowd booed them after Huffman defeated Bam Bam Bigelow in 6:52 by pinfall with a Harlem Sidekick.

Jeff Gaylord vs. Paul Roma.(F)
Jeff and Paul worked hard in this match, but it just didn't look like the match worked for the 2 of them. Gaylord defeated Roma in 7:46 by pinfall with a handful of tights.

Iron Mike Sharpe vs. Nord The Barbarian (E)
Iron Mike carried this match with Nord. Iron Mike sold for Nord even though the realism of Nord's offense was non-existant. Nord was exhausted at the end and mecifully Iron Mike finished the match by submission with a Boston Crab at 9:13.

Steven Regal vs. Jason the Terrible (E)
Steven Regal showed his technical skills tonight with maneuvers that made Jason look bad. It looked like Jason did not put in his best effort. Steven Regal defeated Jason the Terrible in 7:54 by submission with a Regal Stretch. Jason pouted in the ring after the match.

Ron Simmons interview hyping his upcoming singles match with Doug Somers. (F)
"Doug Somers, you might be a known quantity here in Michigan, but when I get done with you, you will just be a memory as I begin my climb to the top of this profession!"

Ron Simmons vs. Doug Somers (E)
Ron and Doug went out and brawled for their short match. The match ended with a chair shot that looked worse than it was. These two might be better if they faced different opponents. They just do not look good against each other. Ron Simmons defeated Doug Somers in 3:39 by disqualification.

Hector Guerrero vs. Tommy Lane (D)
Hector Guerrero made the last match bearable to watch. He led Tommy Lane in the match and sold more than usual. Hector Guerrero defeated Tommy Lane in 9:46 by pinfall with a Butterfly Suplex. Lane will never be a good top Face but that is what he is right now.

Final Rating = E

Crowd expected more angles and interviews at a cutting Edge show. Figures, it looks like anything that will look bad for me is happening on this show.

Tuesday Week 3
I warned Jason The Terrible about arriving late at our last show.

Thursday, Week 4
HWA is proud to announce the signing of Brad Rheingans to a PPA contract

Sunday, Week 4
Mr. Lucas and I had our end of month meeting to go over what went right and wrong and see how to improve our product. Mr. Lucas is putting me on notice that this show was unacceptable, but he does not know why it was received so badly.. He also told me to put together a bracket for our Heavyweight Title Tournament and to start the tourney at our next show. Hiring Rheingans will help with our lack of top Faces. Hopefully, Regal can become the number 2 face within a couple of months. Hector Guerrero is our most over wrestler, so we need to build around him. Also, the young wrestlers on our roster will need to be shown patience to grow and become a valuable member of the roster.

My guess is that Geigel didn't like Crockett wanting Harley Race to drop the NWA World Heavyweight title to Ric Flair. (Note: It happened in real life that Race lost the title to Flair at Starcade '83)

After the match ends, Doug Somers storms the ring and proceeds to attack Bam Bam Bigelow and Nord The Barbarian. Somers levels both of them before calmly strolling back up the aisles. (F)

Iron Mike looked old out there with Simmons. This was the basic big man match, no high flying acrobatics here. The finish was a Iron Mike low blow and winning by pinfall with a handful of tights. (E)

Tournament Match #2

Brad Rheingans vs. Jason the Terrible

Rheingans was pushed to the limits in this match. Jason came out using every underhanded tactic he knew. Rheingans finally got in offense about five minutes into the match. The end came when Jason missed a dropkick and Rheingans hit a Cradle Suplex for the pinfall at 7:48. (C-)

Steven Regal did an interview hyping his upcoming singles match with Hector Guerrero. "Tonight I get to meet the famous Hector Guerrero in the ring. I will show the fans and Guerrero that my technical skills are second to none. If Guerrero comes in looking at this match like I am an easy opponent, I will beat him!" (F)

Hector Guerrero vs. Steven Regal

Hector played to the crowd in this match, he hit with some high flying moves, but then stopped and argued with the fans. Regal did put an STF on Guerrero at about the 8:00 mark, but Hector made it to the ropes. Regal was setting Guerrero up for the Cradle Suplex, but Hector rolled him up with an inside pin getting the leverage with a handful of tights. Guerrero victorious at 10:32 (E)

The announcers put over the fact that we'll be seeing Hector Guerrero take on Steven Regal and that Doug Somers wrestles Nord The Barbarian in the HWA Heavyweight Tournament. (F)

Ken Lucas vs. Bam Bam Bigelow

Bam Bam Bigelow and Ken Lucas used standard brawling tactics for much of this match. Bam Bam looked like he blew up during the match. The ending saw Bam Bam do a Power Bomb on Lucas and then grab the ropes while getting the pinfall. Bam Bam wins at 7:53. (E)

A smiling and comfortable Iron Mike Sharpe shows up on a screen put up in the auditorium. He says "Next month, I will eliminate Brad Rheingans from the HWA Heavyweight Championship Tournament. I also found out why Brad was let go from the AWA." The crowd starts a boring chant. "Brad was trying to politic his way to the AWA title instead of earning it. Next week, Brad will find out how I deal with political people!"(D)

Bobby Huffman vs. Jason The Terrible

Jason used his guile to keep the pace of the match slow. The match didn't come off well, as it seemed like both men were just going through the paces. Jason defeated Huffman in 5:57 by pinfall with a Piledriver. (F)

Ron Simmons vs. Jeff Gaylord

Ron Simmons put on a power display by throwing Gaylord around like a rag doll. Gaylord got himself disqualified by hitting Simmons with a chair while they were brawling outside the ring at 8:31 of the match. The competitors just didn't seem to work well together. (F)

Gaylord isn't happy with the decision and puts Simmons through the announce table. He chases after the referee, Mark Curtis, but cannot catch him as they run into the back. (F)

HWA Heavyweight Tournament Match

Nord The Barbarian vs. Doug Somers

This match was just a fight. Mark Curtis counted both men out at 4:36 and declared a draw. (E)

HWA Heavyweight Tournament Match

Steven Regal vs. Hector Guerrero

Regal asked to wrestle Guerrero in the tournament following last week's loss. Regal was in control of the match until the ref was knocked down by a missed clothesline. Guerrero caught Regal with a DDT and went under the ring for a fire extinguisher. Regal caught Guerrero coming back into the ring and the extinguisher went off and hit Guerrero in the face. Guerrero was blinded and Regal went for the pin. Curtis came to and went to count the pin. At the count of 2, he saw Fire Extinguisher residue on Guerrero's face and saw the extinguisher in the ring. Curtis called for the bell and awarded the match to Guerrero by disqualification at 7:38. (D)

As Regal argues with Curtis about the decision, Guerrero goes up the rampway celebrating the win. (F)

Jerry Oates vs. Bam Bam Bigelow

Jerry Oates is making his HWA debut. He was recently dropped from the Central States roster. Oates came in and took the rookie to school. Oates did some mat work and mixed in some high flying moves. The end came when Oates hit a Flying Knee Drop on Bigelow at 6:47. These two didn't seem to work real well, and Bam Bam blew up again in the match. (D)

Nord The Barbarian vs. Humongous

Humongous took Nord to the woodshed. The match could have been done in about 1:30, but Humongous posed for the fans between each power move he performed. Thankfully, Humongous performed a Choke Slam at 3:39 on Nord The Barbarian to win by pinfall. (F)

Bobby Huffman vs. Doug Somers

Huffman looked good against Somers. The match went back and forth. The ending came as Somers hurt his leg outside the ring and could not make it back in within the 10 count performed by Mark Curtis. Bobby Huffman defeated Doug Somers at 5:51. (E)

Steven Regal is walking backstage, turns a corner, and bumps into Jason the Terrible. Jason says "Look at what we have here. A British reject who thinks he's better than everyone else. All I have to do is look at your record here in HWA and I see how much of a loser you are!" Lord Steven doesn't like that comment and they start arguing. After some heated words, Jason challenges Lord Steven to meet him in the ring for a match. (F)

Tommy Lane vs. Jeff Gaylord

Lane and Gaylord looked good out there. The match went back and forth, with the ending seeing Gaylord rolling up Lane and using the tights to keep his leverage. Jeff Gaylord defeated Tommy Lane at 5:45. (F)

Steven Regal vs. Jason The Terrible

This match was a war. Regal worked on Jason's back, while Jason went after Regal's neck. The turning point of the match was when Jason missed a cross bodyblock and Regal controlled the match from there. Steven Regal defeated Jason the Terrible in 7:45 by submission with a Regal Stretch. (E)

HWA Heavyweight Tournament Semi-Finals

Brad Rheingans vs. Iron Mike Sharpe

After the talk of Iron Mike last show, Rheingans was ready to go. Brad showed off his amateur background and kept Sharpe off his feet. Sharpe was able to get in a few offensive moves, but in the end, Rheingans hit Sharpe with a Cradle Suplex at 10:54 to get the win. (D)

As Brad Rheingans is getting his hand raised in victory, Hector Guerrero comes out to the announce table and gets a microphone from Teddy Ross. Guerrero tells Rheingans " Nice win. Sharpe is a good competitor. Next show, it is you and me for the title. And to give you a chance, I got it approved by the championship committee that the match is a Tennessee Street Fight. After all, it wouldn't be fair for me to beat you in a regular match. See you next show!" Guerrero flips the microphone back onto the table and walks up the rampway to the backstage area. Brad Rheingans looks flabberghasted in the ring. (F)

Gaylord did everything in this match to stay away from Simmons. He went in and out of the ring, complained to the referee and got on the house microphone and threatened to walk out. In the ring, Simmons took control by power moves. The end saw Gaylord pulling out a pair of Brass Knuckles after Simmons accidentally hit the referee. Guerrero kept control of this match for the majority of the time. The end came when Guerrero set Rheingans' head on top of the ringbell. Guerrero climbed to the top turnbuckle and attempted a splash on Rheingan's head. Brad moved and Hector hit full force with his stomach on the ringbell. Rheingans rolled Guerrero up for the win. Brad Rheingans defeated Hector Guerrero at 11:38 by pinfall to win the HWA Heavyweight title. (D)

Great diary! I love the fact that you've seemed to pick people that are either already unemployed, or were released. I don't know how your fairing in the money dept, but Bobby Duncum, Norman Frederick Charles and Eric The Red are also unemployed (expensive though). Also, Dan Severn is available for about 150 dollars ppa. Signing him would do well in your fed as statistically, he has more talent than anyone currently in your fed including Brad Rheingans, and he's waaaaay cheaper as well.

Just my thoughts on it. Good stuff anyway!

I picked people who were unemployed, because I don't believe that established stars would take to signing with a fed just starting. The diary has been slow, but that should start picking up here soon with my increase in popularity. Expect more no-talent workers according to other people in the fed very soon. To ismailite, Thanks. I was starting to wonder if all I was going to get was people telling me that I ain't good at this. Money is starting to be a factor, but I think I'll be OK through the rest of this year. Rheingans is just filler right now for me. I envision Doug Somers to be my breakthrough star!

Regal Speaks

The show opens with Steven Regal in the middle of the ring. Regal tells the crowd that he is glad that they here to see the HWA. Regal says, "Mr. Jeff Gaylord would you please come down the isle, so that I can have the pleasure of beating you. This crowd would like to see that as well, so don't hide in the back. Come out and take your beating from a proper Englishman." (F)

Steven Regal vs. Jeff Gaylord

Jeff Gaylord came running out of the back to attack Regal. It backfired on Gaylord as Regal hit him as he was sliding in under the bottom rope. Regal put Gaylord in many submission holds. In this match, Gaylord felt the pain of the abdominal stretch, the figure four, and the boston crab. Steven Regal finally finished off Jeff Gaylord at 7:46 with a Regal Stretch. (F)

A debut

Tommy Lane is in the ring waiting for his opponent. Iron Mike Sharpe comes down the isle and attacks. Iron Mike clubs Lane down and is setting him up for a DDT. Seeing the assault, Del Wilkes comes running in and chases Sharpe off, saving Lane from a serious beating. (F)

Ron Simmons vs. Doug Somers

Simmons and Somers are not strangers to each other, so they started the match out strong. Somers kept Simmons down on the mat negating Simmons power. Unfortunately for Somers, Simmons did get to his feet and dominated the match from that point on. The end came for Somers when Simmons hit a Dominator at 6:43 for the pin. (F)

A show of strength

Humongous is shown in the car park. He is braced against a wall, and is using his leg strength to hold a moving car back, showing off his power. Jeff Gaylord is standing in the car park disappointed because he bet money with Hector Guerrero that Humongous would fail. (F)

Jerry Oates vs. Bam Bam Bigelow

Bigelow started this match on the offensive. He threw Oates from pillar to post in an effort to end the match quick. Bigelow missed a splash in the corner and Oates took control. Oates was looking fo hit a piledriver, but Bigelow hit a low blow in front of the ref. Jerry Oates is declared the winner at 6:46 by disqualification. (E)

A Female Voice

Teddy Ross is standing in the ring waiting for somebody. A blonde female walks through the crowd and comes into the ring. Ross tells her "We are in the middle of a wrestling card. If you want to meet the wrestlers, please wait by the back door, and they will be out after the show is over. The blonde slaps Ross and takes the microphone. "For your information Teddy, that last remark could get you hurt. With one word from me, Iron Mike will come out and snap your neck like a twig. Now for these morons out in the audience. My name is Missy Hyatt. All you need to know is that I don't want to be in this small local promotion. I am a star and deserve the big lights of New York and Los Angeles. My goal is to take over this promotion and then leave it for the buzzards to clean the scraps up while I go onto bigger things. Mark my words, after I am done with HWA, there will be nothing left of anybody I don't like!" Missy throws the microphone at Ross and walks to the back. (F)

Paul Roma vs. Hector Guerrero

This match went back and forth. There were many near falls, and Paul Roma actually had a chant from the fans. The end came when Hector caught Roma in a figure four and got some leverage from the ropes. That caused Paul Roma to tap out at 7:47. (E)

HWA Heavyweight Title Match

Brad Rheingans vs. Jason the Terrible
The crowd thought that a Title change had occurred in about a minute. Jason rolled Rheingans in a small package, and held the tights. The referee counted to 3, but saw Jason holding the tights as he started to get up. The bell rang, and Jason started celebrating. The referee came over to Teddy Ross and told him that the match was not over and Ross told the crowd over the loudspeaker that the match continues. Jason and the ref argued, until Rheingans spun Jason around, kicked him in the gut and hit a Cradle Suplex for the win. Rheingans makes defence number 1 of his HWA Heavyweight title. (C-)
