That's how the world knows me. At least, that's how they will....

I came from humble beginnings, the son of Stu Hart, former wrestler, and the promoter of Canadian Stampede Wrestling. In the quiet Prairies of western Canada, the family business kept food on our table, and a roof over our heads.

I began wrestling for my father in 1976, at the age of 19. I had no grand designs to make a career of wrestling, but rather saw this as a way to make some money, while I figured out what I really wanted to do. After several years, and short stints in Puerto Rico, Georgia, Texas, Europe, even Hawaii, the calls of the crowd, and the excitement of the industry got to me, and I was bitten by the wrestling bug.

After that, I became a major part of Stampede Wrestling, and began headlining shows throughout the Prairies. Despite all that, I still didn't have ambitions of becoming more than a local star. That is until one month ago, March 31, 1983. On that day, I became a father.

That is where my journey to superstardom began, and that is where we begin our story. I just won back the CSW North American Heavyweight title from my good friend Leo Burke, making me the headliner of my father's promotion. That's merely the starting point, though, as there is so much more to come.

Monday, Week 1, May 1983

Today I begin the long road to superstardom. I have a firm base of Popularity in my native Canada, especially in Stu's territory, but I'm fairly unknown throughout the rest of the world. As is the case in pretty much every business in the world, you haven't really made it, until you make it in America. That said, I need to up my game, and solidify my position in Canada, before moving on. You have to be a National Icon before you can be a Global Icon.

With that in mind, I've sent out some feelers, and have heard back from the Tunney's in Toronto, and Dino & Gino (Bravo & Brito) in Montreal. They are the two biggest wrestling promotions in the country, in the two biggest markets. I've spent short stints with both of them before, but have never had a long run with either.

Wow! What a grueling match. That one definitely could have gone either way, and I had to stay on my toes, to avoid Pampero's big moves. Any one of them probably would have done me in.

This performance should really help put me on the map, here in Ontario.

That certainly was a long match, going 51 minutes. Both wrestlers blocked and broke some big moves to try to turn the match into their favor as neither one would back down from the other.

Thanks, Cap. As soon as I got my license, and installed the DOTT database, I jumped straight into this, so this is actually my very first match with the Hitman, or any DOTT wrestler. In fact, this was probably only my 6th or 7th match in WS2 altogether. I like that this diary will capture my growth as a player, as well as Hart's growth in the industry.

Bret's Thoughts

Gene Kiniski's boy isn't quite as good a worker as his father, but wrestling is in his blood, and he had some moments where that really showed. This was the first time that I'd ever stepped in the ring with him, and I came into the match to wrestle. Kiniski, though, had other ideas, and planted a forearm right into my jaw. From that moment on, I didn't hold back, and gave Nick everything I had. He surprised me, by kicking out of a couple piledrivers, and escaping a Sharpshooter or two. In the end, though, he just didn't have the abilities to go along with his resilience.

Bret's Thoughts

This was the first title defense of this North American Heavyweight reign, having just won the belt two weeks ago from my friend Leo Burke. I was shocked by how quickly Wild Angus started bleeding, but it gave me a target for the match, and focussing on his head clearly paid off. He's a tough dude, though, and definitely pushed back. It would be interesting to see how we would fare, were the match not stopped.

The tag match was the first of it's kind here, I think, by going to the time limit and that was a great match.

The match against Black Angus took a bad turn early with Campbell starting to bleed. Bret took control and just dominated as he wore down BA rather easily to set up the bigger moves. Campbell must have really thin skin to start bleeding at the 2:30 mark but Bret was so much in control Black Angus must have been a real mess in order for the ref to stop the match.

I haven't checked, but I'm assuming that Angus has it ticked in his profile that he's a bleeder. That definitely helped, because he's a heck of a wrestler. We'll get there soon enough, though....

Ouch! Taking a loss is never easy to do, but this one is especially hard to swallow. Things never really seemed to get going, on either side. After kicking out of the piledriver, I really felt that I was about to kick into higher gear, but Tonga immediately caught me with a surprise Choke Slam, and it was just over. I don't think there's really anything I can learn from this loss; it's just something that happens sometimes, I guess....

Before the show, I talked to Jack Tunney about putting me in a program, to establish me in the territory. He hooked me up with Iron Mike Sharpe, who's been a staple of their midcard for years. This was our first match together, and it definitely went well. Iron Mike got in an early flurry of offense, that did left me with a pretty sore neck, but I gave better than I received, as he ended up getting a little colour, for the finish. Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come, between us.

Yikes! My first foray into the No-DQ environment did not go well. The match was fairly open, until I decided to take things outside the ring. From there on out, everything went The Great Gama's way. I think this is a pretty clear sign that I should do my fighting inside the ropes, and leave the extra-curricular stuff to the Abdullah the Butchers of the world.

It's been almost a month without an update. What's happening with the "Hitman"?

I was just thinking the same thing. I got distracted by a 21CW game in TEW2010. This isn't dead. In fact, I've got the day off, so I think it's time to continue the Journey.

Good job on this so far,you are getting the hang of the fighting engine and the couple losses are nothing to be ashamed about...Gama is a top guy,on the same level as Bret in CSW and King Tonga(aka Haku/Meng) is one of the strongest and toughest wrestlers in the business.

It's also pretty neat to see the Candain promotions,gives us a chance to see different workers than we see with our U.S. based games; I'm looking forward to seeing Bret wrestle Bad News Allen in CSW.

Bret's Thoughts

Bouncing back from a loss to The Great Gama, just two days prior, my Championship was on the line, and I was able to hold on. I'm thrilled that I retained, but it blew my mind that Gama was able to keep kicking out, after that first fall. It was as if the sight of his own blood fired him up, and it took everything I've got to make him stay down. A lucky bounce the other way, though, and we would have seen a new North American Champion.

Bret's Thoughts

I've got to hand it to my opponent here. He takes a lot of flack, just because he's not Gene, but tonight he showed that he has the fighting spirit of a Kiniski. Sure, the match never really looked in doubt, but Nick proved to be a lot more elusive and resilient than he normally gets credit for. Coming from the family I do, I can definitely relate to that.

Bret's Thoughts

This was my first time working at one of the Tunney's big arena shows. I don't think my debut could have gone much better, in one of hockey's most historic venues. Despite a very strong control segment, where Patterson kept me grounded, once I made it back to my feet, it was all over. More performances like this and I'll start to make a name for myself.

At this point, take the wins when you can get them. The more you win, the more your popularity goes up and you start climbing the contender's list for a belt. If you lose on a regular basis, the more likely that you could possibly be put on their "future endevors" list and out of a roster spot.

Just one more match to go, and I'll give an end-of-month report. We're already seeing some growth in Ontario and Quebec, where Bret doesn't start very high. In Stampede, there's not really anywhere to go higher; it's all about maintaining the spot.

Although, in reality, I'll be staying with Stampede throughout the future more for roleplaying reasons than any kind of in-game reasons. Even though I'm regularily main eventing, because CSW is only Small, the paydays aren't much better than my midcard slots on MLW & IWA.

I should be able to finish off May tonight. Stay tuned.

I definitely get the impression that I got a little lucky with that Piledriver. Not that it hit, but that it kept him down for the 3 count. Tonga is a very tough competitor, and I'll likely see a lot of him, in the future. I doubt that those matches will be as easy as this one. Still, I'll take any victory I can get, at this early stage.

May saw my first major forays outside my father's promotion. I'd made appearances, and done small tours around the world previously, but these mark the first time I've ever tried to work somewhere else on a regular basis. Already, I'm starting to get a bigger reaction. As well, all this additional ring-time is sharpening my skills.
