I've heard good things about this game, but I was wondering if any of the versions were free? Thanks

Why don't you just pay for it?

If you're talking about the football game, then either Eidos or Sports Interactive were hosting free downloads of CM1 a while back. It doesn't seem to be on the SI website at the moment, though.
You can generally pick up versions from a season or two ago for 5 or 10 pounds from a budget range - and if you look on eBay there's bound to be good offers.

Ok so you stole it - thanks, makes me feel much better for the long nights I put in helping to make that version ;)
You can get most of the earlier CM games dirt cheap these days (circa £4.99 for CM01-02 and similar for CM4).
SI who made CM split from Eidos (who publish CM) and we now make the Football Manager series of games (sigames.com for more details), Eidos have setup their own dev studio to continue making CM.

No offense Marc, but I find CM 4 very much a so so game compared to SI's Football Manager 2K5 and 2K6... I have both SI games, and I would highly recommend people pick them up the legal way of course. :)
File Sharing= Stealing. Always has, always will.

Agreed on file sharing. Though it would be easier if I could get a copy of Football Manager. It's a 1-2 week wait from Amazon for Worldwide Soccer Manager 2006 and Amazon.co.uk won't ship it to the US anymore. No local stores have it. Bit frustrating. I've heard really good things about the game.

Im sure none of you have ever file shared,or copied music or games from a friend:rolleyes: .And saying ive paid cash for season ticket baseball,ootp4,ootp5,ootp6,ootp6.5,itp,tittle bout 1,tittle bout 2,TEW 2005,Total pro basketball, front office football,Tournement dreams college basketball, fast break basketball.Im not feeling bad about file sharing a 5 year old soccer game.If it was a brand new game i could understand were your coming from. But hey thats just my opinion, and i respect your opinion as well. Didnt mean to be the bad guy here. And just to add as a honest question, these massive file sharing sites that are on the net such as kazaa, morpheus and Bitcomet, that are very very popular, arent these sites legal? As i always assumed they were.

All those sites are not legal, but also not fully illegal as they use some tricks like saying that they are not sharing anything, who share the stuff are the users. Most of them are hosted on weird countries etc where the internatioal laws don't apply at all
Anyway probably you don't know it, but Marc Vaughan (http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/member.php?u=30) is the CM4 developer so he has all the rights to be pissed when you said you downloaded it.
I highly recomend you guys to buy the latest one FM06 that is the best text sim without doubts, it has also a great 2D view of the games, not only text.

Would you have a problem if SI sold just one copy of a game and it was shared by all?

Getting a copy of the game from anyone else (not counting gifts or purchases) while it is still being sold by the developer/publisher is in fact piracy/theft and can be prosecuted should the offended party decide to pursue that action. Each purchase entitles one user to enjoy the game, not two or more. This is similar to those individuals who purchase Grey Dog Software's products and then "shares" the second license with a friend.
Grey Dog Software in no way supports this activity as it only serves to harm the entire industry and our ability to serve the customer by making games.
Kazaa itself is only legal in that the software allows users to share files of the users own creation/control. If you read the End User License Agreement for Kazaa and other file sharing software packages they expressly prohibit the sharing of copyrighted and/or illegal material. This allows them to try and escape liability for their users illegal actions. However you the user/thief and the person sharing the file/accomplice are not protected, it is theft and you (as well as the person "sharing" the file) can be prosecuted for it.
Championship Manager and the newer, much better version Football Manager offer an excellent free demo for you to try, giving you a good amount of play time to get the feel of the game. Grab the game legally.
