I've noticed a situation where a penalty is accepted, but the stats for the current play are still counted. I don't know how to 'prove' this by looking at the game logs, but just an FYI that I've seen this happen a small # of times.

Here's a PBP to demonstrate (sorta) what I'm talking about. Shell runs for 3 yards. Penalty is ACCEPTED by the defense, and Shell's carries increase by one, and yards increase by 3.

Ole Miss ball, Q2, 2-11-ARK43 (01:53) 2-7
Offense: Outside Run, Set: I Form, Play: I-HB-power-RE
Defense: Stop Run, Set: Nickel, Play: Nickel-MZ-B11
RB R. Shell runs right end for 3 yards (DT B. Stovall, ILB K. Nelson).

Unnecessary Roughness against OG Keena Schroeder on Ole Miss. The Penalty is for 15 yards.
The Defense will accept the penalty. It is now Third and 23 at the Ole Miss 45.

Tommy

The unnecessary roughness call is a post-play penalty, so it gets assessed after the end of the play, so the ball carrier's stats will count. Same way with roughing the passer and certain other penalties.
