All right, folks, here's what I have observed after four weeks of the season and a few exhibition matches run in what spare time I have.

I've noticed that there are very few matches that either Diamond or Phoenix are in where their managers get involved. Yet in most matches against another wrestler with a manager, said other manager gets involved multiple times a match. I'm at a bit of a loss to figure out why this is. I think it's tied to the "experience" stat (which I have not used in League play at all), but I'm not entirely sold on that. Someone with more in-depth knowledge of the game can maybe shed some light on that.

With that said, I'm thinking of changing the rule regarding the acquisition of a manager. The $3,000 requirement remains in place, but instead of a one-season deal I was thinking of making it either two or three seasons per purchase. I know that right now, it only affects two players (myself and MLT) but given that some of you have mentioned in passing that you're debating getting a manager, I wanted to throw the question out for everyone to consider.

Do you think changing the managers from a seasonal contract to a multi-seasonal contract should be explored further, or should it be left alone? (Or are there other options you'd like to suggest? Throw them out here, we'll be willing to listen!)

I still plan on buying a contract license for Lisa, but I'm a little held back on it now since they really haven't done anything from the write ups.

Well, it's always good to see Maxx fall comfortably back into his home in mediocrity. Fairly certain I'm gonna kill him off at the end of the season, only to replace him with his amnesiatic twin brother Minn Bruise. Until the season 4 cliff hanger ending, where it's revealed that Maxx and Minn are actually one in the same ... named Medium Welt? I'm working on it, suffice to say, somewhere in there, some one is gonna seduce a nun!

As it pertains to serious matters ... if we kept the manager thing in, which assumes we (and by we, I mean you guys, who are smarter than I am :p), I think I'd go with the initial 3k for two years thing, but afterward, I'd consider halving the price. I mean the manager paperwork is filed, it's simply a fee to renew it, right? Half the work, half the price. That can all change, though, if managers do prove to be more useful than ... hell, I'll say it, Joshua Flogg. :p

And speaking of Flogg, the Flogg splash may be delayed a couple of days ... work is being pushed up on me this week, so I won't be able to do a legitimate write up. Hey WC, you up for beating on a portly Belieber this week? `cause I got an idea. :D

I honestly have no idea how managers work in WS2, I'd never played around much in the editor with the game except to give my characters some custom moves. But having had a quick look around, experience is the only stat I can see that could have any effect on things at all... so I'd start doing stuff to that to see what happens, then look at how to increase it for every season a manager is in play.

As for costs/contract lengths, I agree that they should probably be extended a bit, at least to start with. Managers can have a BIG effect on matches when they are working properly, but they clearly aren't yet as evidenced by matches so far. Seems lame to charge fully for a mechanic that isn't really working... but costs should be dropped/contracts extended too far either. Don't want to end up with everyone needing a manager just to stay on a level playing field because they end up becoming too cheap. 3000 for 2 seasons might be better than 3000 for one... at least that way it doesn't overshadow other ways to spend money too much. :)

A philosophy probably best debated elsewhere. :p

You could raise a stat from 0 to 24 for $3000. Thats not insignificant. And it doesnt go away after the season ends, so you carry on the benefit forever.

And without pricing adjustment, managers will always be cheaper in the future, relative to money earned and oppertunity costs.

Each Monday SF runs the matches. You get money to boost stats depending on such things. You have until Sunday to make updates to your stats, and Monday evening to make predictions on winners of each match.

If that's not the timelines you meant, sorry. :p

Both new characters have been added to my spreadsheet. I'll work on adding them to the database tonight, as well as getting webpages set up for both of you.

The following is meant to answer MJ's comment at the top of his application, but can be taken as a general answer.

All stats are at 0, but at the end of the season you'll get a lump sum of money to bring you up to speed with the established wrestlers. I won't have the exact total until the end of the season as the formula I use takes the entire season into consideration, but expect roughly $11,000 in training cash, plus whatever points/cash you carry over from the predictions contest.

In addition, your popularity will look different from your application. This is meant to simulate training done elsewhere and roughly imitates the average popularity changes of active/former League members during the previous seasons. (Short version: expect changes that are no fault of your own! :D )

EDIT: Right now, I'm looking at possibly 20 entrants for next season if Grunt and C-bot decide to join up. I have a five-division schedule made up for 20 players, and am planning to get schedules ready for a 20/4 setup (4 divisions of 5) or even 20/3 (7-7-6) or 20/2 (2 divisions of 10). If we somehow get to 21, I'll do either three sets of seven or 6-5-5-5. The maximum I'll work with is 24, with the first two or three matches in that set-up being "dark" matches which I'll summarize in write-ups.

Bio: “Der Panzer” Rannulf von Krüshengberg is a mammoth of a man, hailing from the small village of Krüshenberg deep in Germany’s Black Forest. A minor showcase on many independent shows across Europe (and even a few bookings in Texas), Rannulf has recently begun dabbling in tag team wrestling, forming “The Axis of Flavor” with fellow European wrester and food aficionado (GruntMark’s character), which is being hailed as “the biggest thing, literally, in European wrestling since Bam Bam Johansson punched a whale”. What their intentions are in The League are unknown, but one thing is for certain: no buffet in the cities along the tour will be safe.

Sooo... been looking at my page a bit and I've noticed that Nuclear's popularity in a bunch of regions is the same as it was when The League started. Seems to me that The League should be doing what it can to try and visit every region in the world from time to time, so I'm thinking it would be a good idea to force the unvisited regions into next season's schedule. For signature and finishing moves, create a name for the move and describe it. If the move is based off a wrestling move, then that description alone will suffice.

Signature Move: Earthshard (Let's see. Basing this off of him hitting the ground and a wave of earth slams into the opponent. So for wrestling..."Strong Charging Forearm", to keep with the theme of the finisher. This one, however, would target either the body or legs of the opponent.)

Finisher: Bonebreak (Would be something of a cross between "Finishing Sprint Forearm" and "Heart Punch", so I'd set the frequency etc. like those. It's actually a strike to the arm, by the way, in kayfabe shattering the bones. Technically, it should continue through the body, but...yeah. So it damages the foe's arm.)

As a preview to what the fans can expect in The League's fourth season, a special "Rookie Showcase" will be held prior to the official start of the season, featuring all of Season Four's incoming members.

As of yet, it has not been determined whether this will be a tag team contest, a series of single bouts, or some combination thereof. This will not adversely effect the rookies (read as: treated as an exhibition match), and will serve to give both the veterans and fellow rookies a look at what to expect come July, and the start of The League's fourth season.

5) Changes in popularity: After a match has been concluded, a wrestler's popularity will change depending on the rating of the match, as well as the result. The higher the match rating, the higher the popularity increases, and vice versa. Winning a match will also increase a character's popularity. The length of a match will also have a factor in the change of popularity, as does the amount of offense each participant has. All of these changes will be handled by the League Director "behind the scenes" in between shows. The formula used is one created by the Director and may be disseminated if asked properly.

Was just having a few thoughts... I have no idea how everyone has spread their points but I can't imagine people have spent more than a few points in things like charisma and star quality so far. I quoted this section of the rules because it seems like if we want to encourage people to build wrestlers of all kinda that it might be a good idea to add more value to some of the stats that might be getting ignored just now. In TEW the value of charisma and star quality can boost a match quite significantly, while in WMMA I'm not sure if it does anything. Seems like they could play a part in the gains/losses in popularity, perhaps by boosting the gains a little and lessening the effects of losses. Might only be adding a multiplier of an extra 0.01 or even 0.005 per point in each stat (when adding on, the reverse for a loss), but over time that could become a significant bonus.

I'm not going to give away specific builds here, that would be wrong of me. I will say that as I look over the match ratings over the last two-plus seasons, none of the builds are the same as it comes to star quality, charisma, flashiness, and so forth.

Without going into specifics, I can confirm that one person has a decent charisma score (well, decent as can be measured by League standards) and seems to be in the upper half of the AMR rankings routinely despite limited star quality and flashiness. Another has a little flashiness, but no charisma or star quality and seems to do just fine. The last example I have is someone with good charisma, some star quality, some selling, some intensity, and some stiffness, but has trouble putting together a decently rated match.

Do keep in mind that with low popularity, matches can run short anyway, and not give the fans time to appreciate it. It's a double-edged sword here. As of the time of this post, 142 regular season matches have been run in The League. In order of frequency, the most common grades are F (24%), A* and C (12% each), and C+ (8%). Those four grades account for over half of the matches in three regular seasons. If there was more of a disparity between the the first two (say, 35% F and only 9% of whatever was next), it would be something to take into consideration for next season and implement immediately.

As it stands this is something I will work on during season four, as I'll have more time to work with it and not rush things before the end of this season, and if I feel that it's viable and I can edit my formulae to take that into consideration, and thus possibly implement into season five (provided we're still going by then).

Having 5 of the special traits set to "yes" is excessive when most people have 2 or 3, including the bleeds often one which is more of a handicap than it is a help once you get past the likely combination of the raging bull trait. While there are no formal limits I'd suggest changing 2 of them to no to be in line with everyone else.

So, a thought hit me while doing laundry, and it's something small that I will implement starting this season. Figure I'll let y'all take a gander at what I have in mind first.

INTRODUCING: HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT

This will be an award given out for moments that I could see the fans starting a "Holy [censored]" or "E-C-Dub" chant, or even extraordinary feats of resilience.

This will not be awarded if I feel there are no noteworthy moments during a match. Also, each week's Match of the Night is ineligible to receive the Highlight of the Night award--they're already getting the bonus to their winnings!

This won't amount to a lot over a season, as I only intend to award the participants in the Highlight of the Night a $20 bonus. I figure it is something that will keep people interested with two more matches per week. I will be calling out the Highlight of the Night during my weekly Beyond Ringside column. I'll even take suggestions from the other players, as long as they do not come off as being overly biased. ;)

Sounds good. The season likely will end in October, with the new one starting in early November. If you want to drop your application in here early, I can certainly add it in to the game database now and fine-tune the details when the season is over and I apply what balancing edits need to be factored in.

Now, as mentioned in the Season Three/Four thread, here's something for all of you (vets and rookies alike) to mull over.


If you recall, way back on the first page of the current (Three/Four) thread I had little bios set up for all the League members (which is now totally out of date). Instead of copying all the information over to the next thread (provided that we're still going--yes, I'm a pessimist by nature, deal with it! :p ), I was thinking of making links to the bio pages, which would be easier for me to update from the computer.

Naturally, I do have an example ready. (http://shadowedflames.net/League/PhoenixBio.html) I realize that it looks sloppy as all heck, but keep in mind that this was a quickly-thrown together thing. If we do decide to go to this, the final products will be a bit more polished than this.

I'm also open to suggestions--more info like average match times/offense, less info, add some colors (match grades, for instance), make clickable banners as the links to go to each page (and for which I will be needing a graphics guru to assist me as I cannot do graphics to save my life), etc.

I figure it's as much your game as it is mine, given that we're now into year two of it, so feel free to give me your suggestions. (And know that if you ask for something I can't do, it would help to have the name of someone handy who is willing to help! :p )

While we wait for my slow self to get Tag Team Turmoil written, here's a question for debate.

If you read the Flogg Splash/Beyond Ringside for Tag Team Turmoil, you may have caught Flogg asking Tori about a tag team season. Well, I can confirm that I have set up popularity formulas that seem to work comparably to the singles versions. If we end up with an even number of players next season, I'd be willing to give a tag season a one-off run with a singles tournament in the middle of the season. If things work out decently, I might consider alternating singles and tag seasons. (If we end up with an odd number, I'll either sit Phoenix or tag with myself with an alternate character, to get us to even.)

Anyhow, go ahead and discuss among yourselves. If you have questions/suggestions, throw them out here. The League is nothing without folks willing to play or give ideas to make the experience better!

I have less interest in a tag season than I do in singles seasons. I like the 3T tournament as a one off deal, but I'm not sure having a full season of tag team action is to my tastes. Being stuck with the same partner for a whole season just doesn't particularly appeal to me... it might determine the best tag team, but when everyone has been built up in singles I'm just not convinced by it.

Could maybe see a combination season of singles and tag working though... 2 divisions of 10, with everyone facing each other once in singles within their division and teaming with someone from the other division in tag once against everyone too. That could be an interesting season, though it might be very long too since it's 18 weeks + playoffs and special events. :p

While I still intend on keeping exact character builds classified (Phoenix non-withstanding), would there be any objections to posting a screenshot of the letter grades for each wrestler's build on the bio pages I will be making for everyone?

I will provide a sample here when I get home, but taking Phoenix for now, I mean along the lines of the following:

If it was, we'd have a wrestler run by a banned member, and at least three or four others who likely would get stomped week-in and week-out because they would still have 0 in all stats.

This way, if anyone wants to leave/switch characters because of something they think is unfair, I can at least ask and try to keep it fair for everyone, plus this way I don't assume returns and have a definite count as I go.

EDIT: Also, am about 25% finished with quick bio pages. I've configured my spreadsheet to give me all the information I want to put on it by selecting a character (I can hear some of you asking "why doesn't he just use a database," and the reason is because I can't make a solid one that meets my needs to save my life). From what experiments I've done, women are relegated to AAA, BSC, 5SSW, and that's about it. I've never seen an intergender match done before. Would love to be corrected on this one, though.

TRAINING PM'S ARE DUE BY SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2011 AT 8:00 PM EST // 0100 GMT ON 21 NOVEMBER 2011. FOR THOSE WRESTLERS WITH FREE POINTS, ANY NOT USED BY THIS TIME WILL BE FORFEITED.

Note that deadline for the first week is one day earlier than the traditional Monday night before the show deadline, so that enough time is given to input all training PM's received. Given that the submission window is a week and a half longer than usual, I think it justified.

Predictions will open when the first card is decided, and deadline will likely be the night of the show itself (the 22nd).

Derek: I know there is a good bit of time yet before sign-ups close, but if you come to a decision early regarding the schedule formation, please let me know so I can start work on getting my template prepared. (After all, it took me about three full days last season to set up a somewhat-balanced five division schedule! :cool:)

Basically, that's the gist of it. There are only two rules: no more than 5 free points in a single stat (as noted), and you cannot add anything to Wrestling Spirit--that's strictly a playoff/tag tourney reward.

I will keep that in mind. I'm going to try to keep going with this but I may have to come back for help if I run out of good ideas for the banners. The way I figure it, I might as well try to learn it in case I ever need it and I have no one to assist me...though pointers and suggestions are always welcome. (Hell, if you have an idea for a banner you'd like to use, feel free to either make it yourself or give me some ideas and I'll try to make them work as best I can.)

Note that deadline for the first week is one day earlier than the traditional Monday night before the show deadline, so that enough time is given to input all training PM's received. Given that the submission window is a week and a half longer than usual, I think it justified.

Predictions will open when the first card is decided, and deadline will likely be the night of the show itself (the 22nd).

Derek: I know there is a good bit of time yet before sign-ups close, but if you come to a decision early regarding the schedule formation, please let me know so I can start work on getting my template prepared. (After all, it took me about three full days last season to set up a somewhat-balanced five division schedule! :cool:)

Alright, folks, serious question time.

I'm finding that getting the time to do stuff at work that's League-related is coming harder to come by. So I thought I would put this out here for discussion and debate.

First off, I'm not closing The League...yet. That time may happen eventually, but not at the moment. I want that put out there first and foremost, in order to keep any rumors from starting. :p

What I am planning is asking MLT to assist me with updating character pages with popularity results, training PM adjustments, current cash, and so forth. As she is currently living with me, I thought it would be easiest to ask her for help before trying to look elsewhere. She has said that she is willing to have her page displayed publicly like mine is, in order to maintain fairness and such, should this be accepted by the majority of those responding.

So I'm going to open the table for debate. Would anyone have any problems with the arrangement I am looking into? If so, would you be amenable to some other sort of alternate plan? Let me know!

Well, folks, we're nearing the end of another season. It's that time again. Looking for those interested in returning for The League's sixth and (for now) final season.

With the few storylines I've been privy to brewing, I'm giving them one more season to play out before taking a sabbatical for a couple of months. By the time Season Six ends, this will have been going on for two years, which is longer than quite a lot of the TEW/WMMA dynasties run. And quite frankly, I think a break is well-deserved for us all.

I'm not ruling out the possibility of restarting The League after Season Six after a few months pass by; I figured I'd put the kibosh on it before I get too burned out mentally. Besides, I have a few other things that I want to do but cannot find time with League duties taking my free time in the early portions of the week.

Because of this being the final season for now, I will be making some slight changes to the normally established rules. Those changes are as follows:

1. Managers are half price this season (1500 for new, 750 to renew contract for one season). In a change from the norm, I will allow going into debt to purchase managers, but training cannot be done until your training cash balance is able to support the training you want. Alternately, you can forgo your 10 free training points to procure the services of a manager for next season. I am giving this option due to the shortened notice for the rule change.

2. At the end of the season, I will be running one final tournament consisting solely of former and current League Champions. The winner of this Tournament of Champions will earn a 5-point worldwide popularity increase instead of a Wrestling Spirit bonus.

3. Tag Team Turmoil. For the fifth running of the event, I will be doing something slightly different for this one. The teams each round will be randomly generated. The champions this season will have to show that they can work with just about anyone in order to win the TTT event this season. Any smack talk/tweets in the game thread can and will be used in match write-ups to enhance the story, so keep that in mind.

So, there you have it. One final season to get to the top of the mountain. Who wants in?
