To make this post on topic, new participant sign-ups for season six are now open.

Deadline for new applicants is APRIL 30, 2012 at 11:59 PM EDT.

Season six is tentatively scheduled to start on May 8. Until sign-ups end I'm not sure how long the season will run, but even with a "standard" 14 week schedule we're still looking at mid-to-late August to end the season.

I've not yet decided that one. Probably won't know until a few weeks before, and it also hinges on the division layouts.

Wrestlers, Fans in Uproar Over "Revamped" Tag Team Turmoil

The sixth (and currently final) season of The League has not even started, and there is already unrest about the proposed retooling of The League's premier mid-season attraction. In fact, the current rumor is that at least one League member is so upset about this change that they may not return next season, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

League Commissioner Colt Marshall explains the reasoning behind the change.

"Coming in to this season, the longest-tenured tag teams were Diamond and Maxx Skabb, and the Axis of Flavor. With Skabb's return looking more doubtful due to his actions outside of the ring, and the limited success that the Axis of Flavor have had in two Turmoil events, I deemed that this would be the best time to change the formula up and make this fifth running of the event unique.

"I've been given to understand that some people are not happy with this change. However, I think the majority of fans see the logic behind the timing to change this formula, and I believe that this running of the event will be the best one yet."

Neither the reigning Turmoil champs, Nuclear Templeton and The Phoenix, nor the team of Diamond and Maxx Skabb, could be reached for comment in time for this article to go to press.

Pages for everyone have been updated to add in prediction winnings, free points for those who qualify (everyone but Psycho Sam, as he's a new entrant), and Wrestling Spirit points for those who wrestled in the playoffs.

For those who sent in training PM's before this update was done, I have not taken them into account due to the added cash and (in some cases) more than expected free points. You may wish to adjust your plans accordingly.

I will post this in the game thread as well to cover all bases.

The only restrictions I have are just one Finisher-level move (what was in your application), unless you purchase more. Besides that and your note above, that's all I really have for limits.

Signatures are generally High-level moves, though there are a few exceptions to the rule out there.

Also, a reminder that sign-ups/renewals close on Monday night, for those who have yet to confirm for this season. (Rannulf, Dante, Maynard, Sean, and Century according to my list).

Diamond So it has come to my attention that the comish wants to close the league for a while after this season of matches. I was going to take a break and work on my tan, but it seems to me that I'm now going to give you all a treat and stay in this season.

What is the League Champions going to consist of? former singles champions and tag team champions?

What I was thinking for the tag tournament of champions is that if two former teams share a partner maybe throw in a runner-up into the mix. For example, Sebastian Moore and myself were the runner-ups to you and Nuclear. If you have won with a different partner in the past you could throw me and Moore into a random runner-up pool from the runners up of the past season and whoever names comes up fill in the spots needed for the teams needing a partner.

Jman: I'm thinking two tournaments: One is for only League Champions, the other is only for TTT champions (once I figure out logistics of how that will work).

Deadline has passed. With Diamond confirming, and with contract details being finalized on member #16 at some point today, we're looking at 16 members for the third time in League history. That leads me into my next point: the scheduling.

Derek's idea is rather...interesting, and I like the plan. Instead of divisions, this season the 16 wrestlers will be split into pairs. The schedule will be seventeen matches long this season, comprised as follows:

3 matches against the person a wrestler is paired with
1 match against every other League member (14 matches total).

Playoffs will be the better record from each pairing, with tiebreaker going to the person who won the head to head series in the season (hence 3 matches between those in each pairing). It will then be seeded as a standard 8-person tournament, with seeding determined by standard League tiebreaking rules.

TTT, as mentioned before, will be random draws for every round to make things interesting. The tournament will be held after week 9 this season.

Derek has said that he'd be willing to listen to requests to put specific pairings together. So if you have a specific opponent you want to try to keep out of the playoffs, he's the guy to try to convince since he's earned the privilege again this season.

In order to allow folks time to plead their cases, I'm allowing a week or so for this. The official Season Six thread will go up on May 8, with the schedule linked in the opening post and a run-down of who's in for the season, done in-character as Tori Montgomery.

Dressed in bottle green sweats with "Coach Robert Greene" written in gold letterman lettering, ice blue eyes, a whistle round his neck and with a pile of papers in front of him, he looks like he's been ready to shout at someone about something for a while already.

Coach: "Welcome fans of The League, my name is Coach Robert Greene and you can just call me Coach. No doubt as fans of The League you're all looking forward to another exciting season packed full of hard hitting, high flying, exciting fighting as 16 of the world's top combatants square off against each other to crown a League champion. Will a sixth man rise to the top in the sixth season, or will a new name climb to the top of the mountain and etch their name on history? One thing is for sure, the pairs of names I have here on this sheet of paper in front of me are going to go a long way towards shaping that and no doubt that's what you're here to see!

"For those also following along on the official site of The League you have no doubt already heard this season's format. 16 combatants will be paired up against each other, facing their paired opponent three times and everyone else once for a total of 17 matches. Whoever is top of their pair at the end of the season will advance to a singles tournament for the championship at the end of the season. With both men having gals at ringside this has all the elements of a combustible rivalry and a tremendous pairing!"

Whether anyone is actually watching him or they've skipped to the end of the video where the dirtsheets are pointing out you can see all the pairings written down on the paper in front of him... well, that doesn't matter. He clearly likes to talk and be in control of things, while also being a self-publiciser to a scary degree. Why else would he talk liks this?

Better to have an even number so that everyone is wrestling every week and 16 is such a helpful number. So the schedule framework has been completed. I'm still getting the regions decided (read as: no time at work to get that done today), so I'm still aiming for a Tuesday evening release of the schedule and such. I will confirm right off the bat that "rivalry" weeks (matches against one's paired opponent) will occur at weeks 1, 9, and 17 of the season--the first and last weeks, naturally, as well as the week before Tag Team Turmoil.

Once I get Bao's stats up to date, his profile will also be made public like Phoenix's, in order to maintain fairness.

Hoping to spend the majority of tonight getting things put together for this season, fleshing out changes to movesets, getting teh regions sorted out, and the last bit of maintenance I have to do before we start Season Six.

Again, expect the new season thread to open tomorrow night, folks.

So, a heads-up about how the regions were picked this season.

Normally, I just do a straight random pick, and damn the consequences. With this being the final season, as well as the pair dynamic, I wanted to do something different.

The first thing I did was take the three areas that had the least difference in popularities, and designate them as the three regions for the "rivalry" weeks (1, 9, and 17). The most difference between two wrestlers out of these three areas is 5 to 6 percentage points, compared to 15+ in some areas between the pairings. Since each pair faces each other three times this season, I thought that would be the most fair way to even out the pairings for those three matches.

That leaves 14 weeks remaining. From here, the plan was to use a weighted randomization system, one wrestler per week, in an effort to give each wrestler a week at a locale that favored them popularity wise. The higher the popularity, the more likely it was that a wrestler would have that selected for him/her during the draw. Excluded from this were the reigning champions (Phoenix and Nuclear for TTT, and Phoenix doubly so for the League Championship), as they are champions and should be prepared for anything. I also excluded Ly Quang Bao to eliminate any semblance of foul play on my end.

The remaining 13 wrestlers were then put through this process. Most of the ranges were in the middle teens (13-16), with three wrestlers drawing a top-5 popularity on their turn. The one remaining week was done on a pure random basis. The order was then set by typical travel routes, as has been custom in The League.

For the TL;DR version: I made things a lot more complicated for myself this season, just because. :D

Signatures and finishers will be ruled on a case by case basis, depending on what will be done with the old move (relegate it, improve to a finisher, eliminate it altogether). Basically, PM me details and I'll rule from there.

Stats, however, I'm not so willing to be lenient on. Basically, I see it as "your body can't unlearn what you have put it through." So stats I'm basically not yielding on unless there is a damn good reason for it...and no, "I have a career losing record" is not a valid excuse, before anyone asks. :p

You know how, for example, Nuclear's first finisher is a lariat? Well, for moves that allow it, you could do a finisher/signature move in different positions (like, a diving Armageddon Lariat, Lariat while the opponent is on the turnbuckle, etc.)

Another example would be Nolan's Regulator (Regal-plex without pin). Once again, you could do this with you and the opponent up the turnbuckle, for example.

So, here's the situation, folks.

Still planning on shutting things down after this season (at least for a couple of months). Last week of the season is still on/around September 19 (Tournaments of Champions).

Thing is, my hosting/domain name services expire on Sept. 26, and I'm not sure yet whether I plan to renew them for another year immediately (granted, it's only $20, but still) or just wait a while and re-open things then, when I'm not trying to scrimp and save for a weekend vacation in October and stuff.

So any information you want from your character sheets or posted schedules, you might want to start copying now in case I do decide to let the domain expire. I'll have copies of character pages and schedules saved on my end, but consider this a friendly notice of things to come.

I will also be posting this in the current season thread, in case someone doesn't think to check here.

With the announcement of WreSpi3 coming later this year, I will go on record to say that it is my intent to make time to run at least one season of The League with the new game when it comes out. I'll figure out more details as it regards to returning characters, stats, etc. as we learn more about the new game and such, but I wanted it known early that I intend on returning to the GM position when the time comes.
