I saw this suggestion listed on the 400 software studios forums when they were around. You start out as a freshman in high school, and you pick which sports you want to play between football, baseball, basketball. You can play one, or all three if you want. As you go through high school, depending on how well you do at the sport you selected, you can get offers from colleges, and then go to college and play. If you pick the wrong sport to play, then your abilities will suffer, and you won't get a scholarship offer. I don't remember exactly all the details about the suggestion I read in the other forums, but it was similar to this.
