Just finished watching the documentary "The King Of Kong"
http://a0.vox.com/6a00b8ea06758adece00e398d7e4880005-500pi
What a great doco, for anyone that's a fan of retro gaming or even just a good documentary it's a great film!
Didn't want to start a new thread just for this so I entitled the thread like that thinking maybe this can become the thread for all video game talk.

All games, or just games for those of us who like to "kick it old school?"
I'm always saddened when I walk by the places where arcades once stood. There was a sweet arcade in the mall near where I grew up...now I think it's a grocery store.
Despite the fact that we didn't have any PSN or Xbox Live, and that the PC was mostly made of MUDD back then, we gamers had a nice little community going in those arcades. When I think of the hours I spent shoulder to shoulder with other kids, pumping quarters in to the game du jour, I get a little misty-eyed for the days gone by.
But then, we have some pretty awesome games today, don't we?

Same :( :D I can still remember going down to the local mall here on a Wednesday night and paying $10 (probably around 20 nowadays, man am I getting old???) to play for 3 hours free on all games. Street Fighter 2 even though I had it at home on the snes always saw the most gameplay. There was something magical about arcades as a kid I swear :D
But then, we have some pretty awesome games today, don't we?
We do but I still don't know if it's because I was a kid that I was able to immerse myself into a 32 bit 2d game like Zelda more then I can a game like Dragon Age which has all the bells and whistles. Then again Zelda was a legendary game, probably not a fair comparison.

Well, I know as a kid the games that I played were limited to what my father bought for us, as opposed to now when I pretty much have the disposable income to get the games I want, when I want. So back then, I had to strip every possible game down to the bone so that I could get the maximum enjoyment from it.
The original "Gold Cartridge" Zelda...yeah I played that one to death. Still to this day it's the only Legend of Zelda game I've ever beaten...and I've owned all of the other ones at one point or another. The first still has a special place in my heart.
And yes, I too played the balls off of Street Fighter II: The World Warriors. And all the subsequent revisions. I also loved the big six player X-Men cabinet, getting a group together and mashing our way through that was always fun.

Dont know if this is the right place for this but I picked myself up the new Xbox360 today and im not happy that it didnt come with HDTV cables! they dont come with it and I have to buy them its BS!! old 360 cables cant be used.
Never had a decent arcade near me growing up, so I had to rely on my SNES. I liked SF2, had all the versions (DeeJay was inexplicably my favourite character) but I was always more of a Mortal Kombat fan. It was faster. Street Fighter felt like I was fighting in pudding.
First time I ever really spent in an arcade were while on vacation in... some Spanish place... possibly Spain. There was an arcade near the hotel that had some okay stuff, and was not quite so run down as to be depressing. I spent pretty much every day in that thing, whomping locals at Tekken Tag Tournament. Hwoarang & King yo!
Oddly, I find fighting games rather pointless now. I need more variety than a series of one-on-one fights. I've got more disposable income than I know what to do with, but I can't justify £30 on Tekken 6 or the new Street Fighter or the new UFC.

a lot of the people on here are not gong to remember these types of things.
I remember spending HOURS playing arcade games. Galiga was one of my favorites. :)
Then I think back to the *old school* games like Ka-boom or Pac man. I know the graphics were crappy, but they were some awesome games. Hell my favorite game still stands as an SNES game. :)

With regards to King of Kong, that movie was ridiculous... Funny... But seriously ridiculous...
And yeah, the lack of arcades nowadays is kind of a let down.

My friends and I still get together and play Street Fighter (well, it's Super Street Fighter II Turbo) or the occasional bout of SSFIV. But then, there was a time when we took those games serious, analyzing frame data and learning move priority and practicing until we were awesome. You know the guy who you played in the arcade who mauled you without letting you get a punch or a fireball in? We were those guys. And as stupid as it sounds, on more than one occasion we traveled great distances (hundreds of miles, maybe even thousands of miles if were flying) to compete in fighting game tournaments for cash prizes.
Yes, we were gigantic dorks.

Ahhh, but you can still have that ol' skool flavor up in the crib. Look here (http://www.mameroom.com/ArcadeSystems.asp). I got up on them watching Garage Mahal (http://www.diynetwork.com/garage-mahal/show/index.html) (Goldberg's show) and it pissed me off. I used to troll the bankruptcy sales in the area back when arcades were going under regularly (late 90s) and at one time had five full sized games in the basement (sit down versions of Spy Hunter and OutRun, tabletop/****tail version of Ms Pac-Man, Street Fighter 2, and X-Men: Children of the Atom) and I paid a lot more than that for them. Now I'm scheming on a way to get one of these. Friend of mine bought one with his income tax refund and he has to play it after midnight because his kids monopolize the damn thing. :p
We have some awesome games today but it's not the same. As you mentioned, it's not the same experience. Plus, back in the day, developers could specify hardware in those big cabinet models so many games we played in arcades were customized for that particular game. They moved away from that (going with the more standard system that used DVDs or cartridges or something with only the panels on the cabinet being swapped out) but that was when they started to suck. Oh, that and some games going up to a freakin' DOLLAR for one play!

Yeah, a lot of the cabs they have in some of the remaining arcades are very cookie-cutter for the reasons you mentioned. It's more cost effective to swap out a board or a disc than to buy a new cabinet for every game.
That set-up you linked to is pretty damn nice. I've been in some beautiful home arcades over the years, but as you mentioned, they can get quite expensive. One of my favorite 2D fighter tournies took place in the basement of this guy's house in Maryland. He had a nice place, and his basement was finished and all of that, so it was a pretty cozy set up with sit-down arcade cabinets. I casually asked him how much he'd shelled out over the years to get it to that point.
He just smiled and shook his head. "A lot," he replied.

Finishing the basement probably cost more than assembling the games. The most expensive cabinet I had was the OutRun one and it cost a shade under 4k. I got it (relatively) cheap because few people wanted it because it has a huge footprint (it was the big arse one with side by side positions). The rise of the console made it so I could get rid of them (gave them to my conspiracy theorist friend in Elmira :p) but I am definitely getting one of those custom jobs.
Astil, I'd be hesitant to state unequivocally what I'll "never" have. I've found that this world isn't nearly as cut & dried as people like to think it is.

I'll say it's like... twenty steps away from where I'm at now. Plus, my fiance wouldn't be so keen on it, she'd rather me just buy another console/computer. Some people don't get the finer things...

I like to wait until the newest console comes out, and then buy the previous console and all the good games for it for cheap. Used of course, but still in good condition. You know that you can get games that were $50 dollars when they came out, for like $5 - $15?

I get the game part, but a previous Console? I can't imagine doing that. What are you playing now, a PS2 or Xbox? You can get a PS3 or 360 for pretty cheap if you look in the right place.

My current list by amount of time played on:
360 > PC > DS > PS3 > PS2 > Wii.
My nephews love their 360 and I tend to play online with them. PC is alone time. The others are "sigh, I'm bored"... except the Wii. That's the "oh, my wife likes to play video games once per month".

I own neither. My brother has a PS3, Someone very close to me has a 360. I have played both and watched enough game play on both.

Have owned every game system Sony has come out with, and haven't looked back yet. PS1 had a bug, but that came along exactly when the PS2 came out. Bought the PS2. If there's a game that's not available for the PS3, I buy it for the PS2, play it there. Own a PSP, and a PS3. Love the PS3.
HDTV + PS3 + 52" Plasma + Games like UFC Undisputed, Smackdown vs RAW, FIFA, NBA, Uncharted among others = Insanely Amazing Graphics
It's literally come to the point that when I'm in the car on a road trip with some of the guys, we'll plug in the PS3 in one of the outlets and load it on to the screen.

Better selection of games. Streaming media. Xbox Live. A controller that doesn't give you "The Claw" after using it for ten minutes.
PS3 game play is a lot nicer. Graphics look better.
Of the comparisons i've seen on Gamespot where games are on both formats, the Xbox usually wins. Just because the console is more powerful doesn't mean anything, unless the game developers take advantage of that.
Internet play is FREE. :D
You get what you pay for. I've heard countless stories of PS3 owners complaining about lag or not being able to get into games.

My brother is on net play for Red Dead Redemption, James bond, Boarderlands, and another I can't think of. Never had issues. I have heard people complain about the Xbox internet. Never had any trouble with PS3 games on the network aside from UFC 2010, but from what I've read there were problems with that on the Xbox as well.
Personally I like my PS3 better than what I've seen on my nephew's 360. The PS3's controller doesn't weigh twenty pounds, and its rechargeability comes standard. I don't have to pay extra to use their network service. Can play Blu Ray movies. And with the Blu Ray format for games you can store more information on PS3 discs, meaning for RPG games, you don't have to switch out discs, unlike the Xbox. And biggest issue, my nephew had to get his first Xbox 360 repaired twice, then replaced it, then had to replace that one all in the last three years. I've read they fixed a lot of the issues with the RROD, but still...
Negatives for me... can't stand the PS3's wireless headset. The 360's wireless headset is better. The 360's tray loading for discs means never having to touch the bottom of the disc. Not a major issue, since the PS3 discs come with that special protective coating that Blu Ray discs have, but it still annoys me.

From what i've read and seen of the gameplay, it's what the Smackdown vs Raw series should be aiming for as it's closer to No Mercy on the N64. I saw one of the "new features" of the new SvsR game will be the ability to throw weapons... you could do that back in 2000 (or whenever it was) on No Mercy.

As one of those "millions" you mentioned, I'm afraid that on this we'll have to disagree. KOTOR was good, I'll give it that, but I could not get into Morrowind or Oblivion as much. And considering that I've beaten a majority of the "main" Final Fantasy series, I'll admit that I may be a bit biased in my opinion. Which leads me to say that in my opinion, Final Fantasy VI is the best RPG ever. It's not everyone's cup of tea, I know...but to this day that is the only RPG I can boot up after not playing it for several months to a year and still know where everything is and what order to go in without needing to talk to people.

For me, as someone with both a 360 and PS3, I generally see little difference in performance (that is, gameplay or graphics quality). A year ago, I'd probably have given both to the 360, but the PS3 games do look a bit better now (though I still feel that most games feel more "natural" on the 360... but even that is a negligible difference).
Frankly, for me, it has and always will come down to the player base. My family and closest friends are overwhelmingly 360 players. Probably due to the fact that the 360 has been out longer (but also maybe due to the price difference). So, I have a choice between buying something like Red Dead Redemption for the PS3, where I know literally no one, or the same game for the 360 (where I know at least 3 or 4 people that want to play with me)...
Well then, the choice is clear :)
FFIV and FFVI are great games. When I was younger, I was also big on FFI (can't seem to get into that now). Never been able to get hooked on FFVII or later though.

I was referring to the non liking of Final Fantasy. :D
But you did say you love RPG's...
But if they could make it right the first time you wouldn't need it replaced. :D
The PS3 has had it's fare share of faults too ya know. The very first console I had break down on me was my PS2, so I put my foot through it:

I haven't bought, and wont buy, a Sony product again. It actually says alot about the products of today when they don't last as long as they could due to money hungry companies. My first Commodore 64 still works 20+ years later, as does the TV I used to play it on.

I'm not a fan of the "Japanese style", if that makes any sense. I simply can not stand Anime either. To me, Morrowind was like nothing else i'd ever played before; go where you want, do what you want, when you want. I dread to think of the hours i've put into playing Morrowind. I was extremely excited when Oblivion was looming on the horizon, but when I played it the magic of Morrowind was missing somehow. Whether it was because I was older, it was more of the same, or I lacked the time and patience I had when playing Morrowind, I don't know.

Yes I'm a huge RPG fan, but very picky at what I play. I never got into the FF series. I played 7 for like 45 minutes got stuck and quit. X2 was ok. I never finished it though. 12 is and always will be my favorite. I have logged over 100 hours and never beat it.
I never had a problem with my PS1. Granted it didn't work after I threw it out the door and it bounced off the patio. :D That was because it was a present and I was telling the dude to get lost. :p

I've never had problems with my PS1, and my PS2 only had one problem over the 10+ years I've owned it -- the lens went out of alignment last year and I had to spend about 20 minutes repairing it.
That said, my girlfriend's family has gone through 5 PS2s and at least 2 PS3s.

I'm a PC gamer but I do own consoles (every one released in the US from Intellivision on, except for the ColecoVision that got stolen when I was 10). For the most part, if a console-exclusive (or based) game comes out that I (or my nieces/nephews) like, I'll get it, even though I'd rarely play it (Fable being the exception). I tend to have get-togethers fairly frequently so having the hot games is useful. I can understand Wrestling Century's point of view though I probably could never go that route. In gaming circles, games have a relatively short shelf life. People talk about/critique/deconstruct them when they're new then move on to the next one. So waiting a year or two to get a game would make me clueless in those conversations. "Ohhhh, now I see what you all were talking about." "What?" "Oh, Oblivion. I just got it." "Dude, that was how many years ago???"
Oh and I'm not a fan of Final Fantasy anything.

I went from the Mega Drive/Genesis to PC to the N64, I skipped the Saturn and PS. The Saturn was insanely expensive and the PS was even more expensive if you actually worked out the cost. Sony had a great marketing strategy though so the PS sold more.
My ps2 is awesome I love it. I play it a lot and watch DVD's on it.
My PS2 stopped playing DVDs, "That's fine as I can still play games on it", I said. Then one fateful day in the middle of summer, a boiling hot day combined with an extremely bad day at work I came home to sit down and play some PS2 to chill out... the game froze as it was loading. I tried it a few more times, and with different games, same thing. So I carefully unplugged all the wires, took it outside and stomped a mudhole in it's ass.

Ahh but Daggerfall was just like it. The whole Elder Scrolls series (with the exception of Arena, the first game) was freeform. I think the problem with Morrowind vs Oblivion was that there wasn't enough time between the games for people to develop a hankering. Also, since Morrowind was so open and had more current graphics (which made it stand out MAJORLY from Daggerfall), there wasn't much for folks to look forward to in Oblivion. Coupled with the modability of Morrowind and you could literally play the game indefinitely and always have new stuff to do and see.

Yup, not enough time between games for folks to develop a real hankering for it. This differs from something like Mass Effect where the story keeps people coming back. ME is a lot more linear than the Elder Scrolls so there's a finality to each game that only makes you want the next one to see where the story goes. Fable I think was very similar.

Old article, but: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2009/09/playstation3_and_the_yellow_li.html
Brief snippet: "If this failure had occurred in the first 12 months after purchase, Sony would have replaced the customer's console without charge, but since the problem appears to be affecting consoles after 18-24 months of use, and therefore outside of the warranty period, Sony say it's not liable. Sony does offer a solution, by offering customers a refurbished machine in return for their faulty one. Up until late August 2009, the company charged £145 for this service, but that price has since been reduced to £128. As part of this charge, not only do customers receive a console that is as good as new, they get a door to door courier collection and delivery service. Sony says it makes no profit from the facility, and in fact make a loss."
I've known a few people get the RROD with the 360, but they haven't been charged one penny. Sony or Microsoft support...? Microsoft is better, in my experience.
Also, I can't remember what the fault was, but wasn't there a mass PS3 meltdown because of something simple to do with the clock (or something) recently?

So does mine...and the Amiga 500...and the Atari ST. Haven't booted the Amiga 1000 in like a decade but I'm sure it still works too.
The first ever TV I bought myself was a 32" (I think) widescreen TV in late 1998, it lasted until a month after the one year warranty was over. The TV that I had with the C64 back in 1985/86 still works to this very day, and that TV was used a LOT for many years.
YES! OH MY GOD, YES! About the only Asian style game that I can stand is Lineage II (and that's only because they made even the male characters/models look so effeminate, they might as well give 'em boobs). Look (http://www.lineage2.com/guide/images/MDarkElf.jpg).
The Japanese style just seems very odd to me. Half of the time you can't tell who's male or female, and when I see someone four foot tall carry a sword longer and wider than their body I can't help but think, "Eh?".

Morrowind was my introduction to the series, as I said, i'm not really a RPG fan. I owned the Xbox version because my PC at the time couldn't handle it so modding wasn't really an issue with me, but I did observe my friend playing around with various things. There was "something" magical about Morrowind (without trying to sound cheesy) which drew me in, and even though all the ingredients (with improved graphics) were present in Oblivion I just found it lacking. I'm sure it's more to do with me than with the game itself, but there's not much I can do about that. Well, except for moan about it on an internet forum. ;)
Does no one remember the Jaguar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_Jaguar)? :p The only reason I have one is because I worked in Electronics Boutique (now known as EBGames) so I got it for free. Wasn't like anyone was going to stop me though. The damn system wasn't being bought by anyone anyway.
I remember it, but there were only two good games I ever played on it. Tempest and Alien vs Predator.
The Angry Video Game Nerd reviewed the Jaguar: Part One (http://screwattack.com/videos/AVGN-Jaguar-Part-1) Part Two (http://screwattack.com/videos/AVGN-Jaguar-Part-2) (don't watch if you're easily offended kiddies)

I've heard so many great things about Mass Effect (and now the sequel) that I have been tempted to pick it up in the past. But if Knights of the Old Republic hadn't been a Star Wars game, then chances are i'd never have played it.

I haven't checked with either of them myself (both systems were launch systems so way out of warranty) but I don't doubt that Sony will have me pay.
The ApocalyPS3 only lasted a little over 24 hours. Was the internal clocks on the old "Fat" systems having a glitch and mistakenly thinking 2010 was a Leap Year. Wasn't that huge a deal, just an annoyance for me, but there were reports of people losing trophies or something. Which I didn't care about anyway cuz I don't use my console for Online Gaming, that's what my computer is for.

You are the first person that I have seen that got the Yellow light. I've never heard of it. My brother has had his PS3 over a year. He is on it nightly and has not had an issue with it. That sucks. I mean I'm sure Sony would have you pay because there just that awesome. :D

Yeah, I've heard that Sony can charge quite a bit for repairs, where as Microsoft will pay for the RROD (Just the RROD though. One of my nephew's Xbox failures was the laser going out and only being able to play DVD movies. Microsoft wanted over 100 bucks to fix that...)
But that really isnt a positive. A positive would be not having a system failure rate so high it engenders a class action lawsuit. Yeah, PS3's can fail, but not even close to the rate the 360's died at.
Really though, if you enjoy your game system, whatever it is, good for you. Just I think the PS3 has more positives.
Myself I've found my PS3 to be very durable. About 2 months ago it got hit by lightning and I still havent had a problem with it.
Linsolv
07-02-2010, 10:32 AM
The 360 has a much, much higher failure rate than the PS3. In fact, just red-rings (which is not the only way to permenantly break) is higher than the percentage of PS3 failures to date, as is the non-red-rings failure rate.
However, that said, when presented with the choice between a PS3 and a 360 a few weeks ago, I went with the 360, so I'm not trying to trash talk it or anything.
Trashbear
07-02-2010, 11:35 AM
I was firmly in the 360 camp, despite the fact that I'd gotten two red rings and an E71 failure.
Then I actually bought a PS3, and my 360 is collecting dust. I have a good library for it, and there are forthcoming games that I'll certainly play on the 360, but given the choice, I'd say the PS3 is my favorite. The software library has caught up to the capabilities of the hardware, finally.
But I'm no fanboy...my motto is, and always has been "Good games is good games." I want to play what's good, what's new, and what's interesting, be it the cornucopia of indie games available on my PC, or the latest big-budget blockbuster for the PS3. If there's fun and intrigue to be had, I'm there.
Which is why, much like Remi, I have owned more or less every single console (didn't have a CD-i, 3DO, or a Virtual Boy) and maintained a gaming-quality PC. I have a compulsion to try damn near everything.

I do not have the money to keep a gaming computer. I have a low-end laptop and a desktop that was middle-end when I got it 8 years ago. For me, consoles are nice because they're inexpensive. I'll NEVER need to upgrade that, if I keep it safe.
For me when it came down to the PS3/360 decision, the 360 won hands down. I assume because at the time there were more games I wanted to play on the 360. Seem to remember PS3 was pretty slow getting started. That and the price. I tend to get into the next generation of consoles 6-months to a year after release. I wait for the price to drop a little, and for a good library of games to build up.
I love my 360. It RROD'd once, but that was fixed and sorted in about a week. Considering the amount of other things that consistently break in my life (my phone and car are particularly problematic) it's doing fine. I'm a pretty casual gamer though. I use my 360 more as a DVD player and way to play .avi files on my gigantic TV than I do to play games.

For me, it came down to my friends' systems, mostly.
All the games I like (except Gears of War, which I was willing to throw under a bus if the time came) are cross-platform.
I mean, sure, Call of Duty map packs come out way faster for 360, but if my girlfriend played her PS3 a lot it would've been a tricky choice.
Instead, I've got one friend with a 360 he plays daily, and a girlfriend who plays her PS3 once on a blue moon.

Nah, my only console of this gen that I have (that's not portable) is a Wii. (Changes discussion yet again) Has anybody played Super Mario Galaxy 2 yet? And yes, I have almost always been loyal to Nintendo consoles (what can I say? They've all been superb consoles IMO).
I want super mario galaxy 2! Has anyone beaten the first one? I am at the last stage and it's making me mad. I keep losing at stupid parts, that I shouldn't lose at.

Anyone play the Grand Theft Auto series?
I am a staunch 'not fan' of the GTA series. It's not my kind of thing. The driving is pretty good, but the combat and shooting is pure amateur hour. I'm not all that big a fan of free-roaming either. I'm playing Fallout 3 right now, and struggling to stay into it because of the lack of clear direction (also, the world Cup is distracting me) and the action in that is something I find actually fun. I like things linear I guess.

I hated GTA IV. It was boring. I started playing when Grand Theft Auto 2 came out. Then got into 3, Vice City, and San Adreas(my personal favorite).
4 did nothing for me. The story was boring and the main character was a snooze fest.
Anyone into Saints Row? The first game was ok, but Saints Row 2 was amazing. I can't wait for the third one.

I wanted a PS3 for so long. I've been a Sony man through and through since the beginning. First console ever was a PS1 and I've kept my PS2 for five years, up to this year.
But I got a 360 in a weird twist of fate. Never looked back or regretted it since then.
WWE All Stars. Opinions?
Liking it. Sounds like some sort of unrealistic Street Fighter arcade-type of fighting that it will take a bit of getting used to, but could play off well. We'll just have to wait and see what it gives though, could just as well be a disaster.

Played San Andreas for a fair while. Thoroughly enjoyed it, yet I never finished the game. Now I'm in the midst of playing GTA IV which I also enjoy, even though the premise is quite different. I'm a fan of the amount of realism and what it brings to the table. I'm not even halfway through though, hah.
And hearing the Ricky Gervais/Katt Williams stand-ups are an awesome way to pass the time.

GTA 4 was all right but I agree San Andreas was my favorite as well. I liked the fact that you could make him get fat, get a hair cut, and the music was awsome in that game (All though Vice City's music was great as well).
Yes Saints Row 2 is great! I have yet to beat it due to XBOX related problems (My 360 has had to be fixed five times now and I have a new problem with it right now).

Well not all of the games of the past were great. I think we all like to wax nostalgic about the stuff of our youth. I mean I thought the Boyz in the Hood was a great movie when I was in 7th grade. However, after watching it recently I came to see it as something akin to an After School Special (A violent one but an After School Special nevertheless.).

I haven't checked with either of them myself (both systems were launch systems so way out of warranty) but I don't doubt that Sony will have me pay.
The 360 has a three year warranty, I don't know about the PS3. Maybe things are different over there, but here you usually only get a twelve month warranty on anything. Obviously that could be because Microsoft expect them to fail within three years, but they still didn't have to extend the warranty.
Still shouldn't have happened though. I must admit that I did giggle when I heard about it after all the Playstation fanboys harping on about the faults of the 360. :D
I use my 360 more as a DVD player and way to play .avi files on my gigantic TV than I do to play games.
I hope you're not suggesting that you download movies off the internet and watch them on your 360?!
Okay, what should I get? Three good Game Boy/Game Boy Advance games (used) or WMMA2?
WMMA2.

The GTA games are a masterpiece in terms of how far gaming has come. I have 'The Ballad of Gay Tony' and 'The Lost and The Damned' expansions on my PC - both of those are really bad ass. Rockstar knows what they're doing, a lot of the stuff they've produced is top notch.

I expect GTA is quite good story-wise, I've never gotten past the awkward and ugly shooting mechanic to know though. I like running around, shooting dudes as much as the next guy, but I need a proper aiming system and a way to use cover. And back on topic, Mario vs Sonic? Which was better? And i'm only talking during the 16 bit era of the Mega Drive/Genesis and Super NES.
Personally i've got to go for Sonic, as much as a I love/d the Mario games. Take the original Sonic for example, you only needed the D-Pad and one button to jump. That's simple gameplay at it's best.

Yep. I don't think I've played every Sonic game, but I've played the majority of them. I kind of gave up on anything after Sonic Adventure 2 though.
A few months ago I bought Chrono Trigger for my DS and didn't get a chance to start playing it until about a month ago. I know I'm years behind on the fan love of this game, but holy crap it's fantastic. I'm not that far into it I don't think, but I love it. My only problem is, when I get frustrated, I stop playing for awhile. I haven't played in a few weeks now though.
I don't have many DS games, so I'm going to list what I have, and if anyone has any suggestions on what I should get, please please PLEASE share :]

Ahhhh, you obviously played on one of the later C64's, the beige version. I had the same (I own three C64's, two beige and the earlier grey/brown version too) but it came with the "Hollywood" pack which had Miami Vice, Rambo II, Top Gun, The Great Escape... and some other game which currently escapes my memory.
Wipeout for Wii... Nuff said.
Wipeout 64 is still the best, in my opinion. (although I haven't played the Wii version)
What is Wipeout?
 *falls off chair*
I laughed when they changed the name of Bully in the UK to Canis Canim Edit. :D It seemed to me that Bully might've gotten more controversy than the GTA games.
Manhunt, you don't get much more controversy than that game as it was taken off the shelves, still got my copy though.
The videogame industry is an odd one though. I remember when Barbarian was briefly removed from the shelves back in the 80's because of two things:
1. A provocatively dressed Maria Whittaker. Ahhhh, Maria...
2. There was a tiny blood spurt when you beheaded your opponent.

Vice City, in my opinion, still has the best GTA soundtrack. Obviously all you young whipper snappers here wont appreciate it though because you didn't grow up in the 80's. :p
Well sadly I am not a whipper snapper, I was two when the 80's began and I remember pretty much everything after 1985.:D
I guess for me SA was the better soundtrack because that was the music of my teen years. All though Vice City had Phil Collins music in it so that makes it awsome as well.

I was born in '82, but I was aware of the things going on from an early age. Plus when I used to work as a topographical surveyor in '99, the guy I worked with was a teenager in the 80's so for the five hour journey to and from the site each day we were often listening to 80's music. It actually surprised me just how much of it was familiar to me. Then again my musical taste has generally been a bit more 'old skool' than my advancing years would suggest. (Skip James anyone? :p)

I'm pretty much the same way. Being born in 79 doesn't really mean you grew up with 80's music. By the time you really get into it it's the 90's. I have a half sister who is 9 years older than I am. So she grew up with 80's music and I learned from her. So for me I love the older music. I'm not into too much of todays music. I prefer music back when it was actually *music*. :D

And hearing the Ricky Gervais/Katt Williams stand-ups are an awesome way to pass the time.
There's 2 or 3 sets you can watch that I think it chooses randomly when you head to the comedy club. There's also the radio (of course), but I was really disappointed by the music this time around (do we really need TWO Reggae stations with one dedicated solely to Bob Marley and his kids?). The talk radio and commercials are great, but I only listen to the sort of boring classic rock station and the fairly obscure alt rock station for music. (Also, The Journey + Ice Cream Truck is hilarious.) San Andreas's music was totally perfect and Vice CIty was arguably better.
Also, the in-game TV is hilarious. The Men's Room with Bas Rutten? Win!
Also, UT, if you come to Pennsylvania, visit Scranton... Home of our version of The Office! :p It's a cruddy city for its size.
Anyways, check out League of Legends (http://signup.leagueoflegends.com/?ref=4bf5e37b9d549) everybody. It's a legitimately free game and it is of retail quality. I can't stress how awesome it is. If you think "free game" and think something like "RuneScape" or anything like that, it's far beyond that. First and foremost, it's honestly free. The only things that you can't acquire without paying (you can pay for stuff if you want, but can just get it pretty easily by accruing in-game currency by playing) are champion skins and they're entirely superficial.
It's hard to describe. It's based on a Warcraft 3 mod called "Defense of the Ancients". You play as a "champion" on a team of 3 or 5 champs vs. another team of 3 or 5 and your goal is to destroy the other team's nexus. The path to the other team's nexus is split into 2 or 3 lanes lined with defensive turrets and as you fight towards the opponents' base, your own base produces minion units that automatically advance towards the other base until them meet a group of enemy minions/an enemy tower/an enemy champion/the other team's nexus.
What you get is a combination of an RTS, an RPG, and team-based 3rd person action game (with maybe a bit of tower defense).
It isn't browser based; it's an entirely stand-alone program with full-fledged production and support and constantly flowing new content.
It's inarguably the best free game I've ever played.
So... yea... Check it out! You have nothing to lose! :D

GTA4 was a good game that could have been great with a few changes. I dont regret buying and having played it or anything.
Plus it gave us Brucie.
And Imma not point fingers or make accusations...but that may have given us a certain version of Bam Bam Johansson.
Maybe. :p
Red Dead Redemption however is a better Rockstar/Free roam kinda game, if thats what you are in to.
Actually, Lost & the Damned expansion is better too. Motorcycles are cool, characters are generally better (minus no Brucie), storyline is more tightly written AND Styx is cool.
Oh. And when being chased by cops no one calls you to complain that you never go bowling with them any more and when can we go bowling and WAAAAAHHHHHHH

Oy, the main recollection I have of C64 games was Airborne Ranger. OMGZ!
Of course, my main recollection of Amiga games was Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leisure_Suit_Larry_in_the_Land_of_the_Lounge_Lizar ds). I was 14. :D

Meh, then I have a ghetto beige one. I couldn't get the 64 when it first came out because I had JUST gotten a Vic20 and my mother was like, "You just GOT a computer!". And she wasn't buying the "But this isn't a real computer. The C64 is!" line. :)

Um, when exactly was that? It hasn't been "actually music" since the Big Band era. So unless you're rockin' the Glenn Miller Band or Count Basie, you're supporting the same phenomenon you're criticizing. Auto-Tune is an advance of a technology that's been in use since the 30s. And if you listen to or like any music where a wah wah pedal is used, same deal.
I also disagree with your age assertion. I was born in 73 and grew up on 70s music, because it was in the house and all around me, all the time. That's generally what I think of when people say they grew up with a certain era of music. You don't have to KNOW or LIKE the music at that time but it still influences you because you see how the people around you (the folks you love/look up to) react to it. I remember my aunt Margaret would immediately jump up and start dancing when "Don't Leave Me This Way (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don%27t_Leave_Me_This_Way)" came on. As a result, that song (and many others) made an indelible mark on me, musically. Now, the first song that I can recall really digging was 'Raising Hell' by Run DMC. I used to go to DJ & MC battles all around the city because I was really into that style at the time. That doesn't change the fact that my first positive memories of music derive from the late 60s and early to mid 70s.

What I meant was people say Oh you were born in blah blah so you grew up with whatever. That's not true. Just because you are born in 73 doesn't mean you "grew up" with the music unless you had someone who was around with that type of music.
My example. I was born in 79. I grew up with 80's music because my sister was older and listened to it. If not for that I would most likely have grown up in the 90's music. That's my whole point about the age thing.

I agree with both of you. I had my father playing ELO, The Beatles, T-Rex, and my mother playing a lot of Elvis Presley. Then with my brother being six years older than me I was listening to the modern stuff at the same time.

Virtua Tennis was a game I loved on Dreamcast. MDK2 is as well; very funny game; from Bioware no less.

Partially thanks to the fact I can't play Civ5 until it gets released in a couple months (totally getting the Steam special edition for the Babylonians!)...
I've returned to playing copious amounts of Civ4, which is still a truly tremendous game. Heck, thanks to a super-massive marked-down price I managed to get Civ4: Colonization as well.
I have to say, very few games can satisfy my desire to run an empire. I'll admit, there's some games of it where I'm just happy to sit back and enjoy being part of the world (though not to the extent of, say, the similarly named Galactic Civilizations games).
Colonization provides a whole new challenge to Civ4 (which the base game+expansions typically turns into "Lulz, I can build tons of troops and brute strength death stack attack everyone else!"). There's something incredibly satisfying about being a Russian colony (totally downloaded a mod!) and rebelling against the Motherland. Oh, and deciding you've had enough of those pesky Apaches demanding oodles of gold to establish settlements in their land and deciding you'd rather pay them in liquid hot death. That's right, suck it Apaches. Tzar era Russian colonists with muskets > you.
Oh, and Montezuma is a dick.

Thought I would give this thread a good bump. Since GDS is truly a Indy Gaming Company and has a major wrestling fanbase on it I figure I would see how many people have heard of another Indy wrestling game. It has a few varations made by one guy Mat Dickie http://www.mdickie.com/ He has a few other games but I would just like to see what people think of the games. Im not trying to get people to stop playing TEW/WMMA or any other GDS game but I found these games recently and figured someone else here might like them.
Now on to my personal opinion about.... well almost of his games. Great concepts but just are not implemented to their full potential. Not to say I would stay way from them entirely but just not have that high of expectations. The most recent wrestling game from him is a Booking Sim where you also need to play as the wrestlers and the other version is where you go through from rookie to big leagues as if the business was real (like Wrestling Spirit). Both are good, playable, fun, but just feels to repedative and things happen out of the blue. So if I was to rate it I say a 3 - 5. I would recomend trying it out and seeing if you like it.

True, the one about the bile and the followup did seem to be his last hurrah and it is his last hurrah which I do find unfortunate as his games were fun, if a bit repetitive and tedious but the graphics I found to be fine, for a one man project those are good graphics.

I hate to say it for how much Origins rocked but Awakening is udder crap. Maybe they fixed some of the major issues like in the castle you get no sound( could just be my copy though). The story is much, much weaker then Origins with some characters that you just want to strangle. But everyone's favorite drunk dwarf makes a return. Overall, only if you are a hardcore fan of Dragon Age, I would still recommend, anyone else would just get kicked off the bandwagon before they even try DA2.

Has anyone ever played Hydro Thunder. Got it off the arcade a few weeks a go pretty much a simple boat racing game. For some reason it is highly addictive mainly because every time you race it displays someones gamer tag who has a quicker time than you, at each check point you see how faster or slower you are than them. I am not a fan of racing games in general but found this one a right laugh, it's an old n64 game I think.

As for StreetFighter x Tekken, it's coming eventually. Tekken x Streetfighter might not be coming, and i'd like that one WAY MORE.

I'm actually playing Elder Scrolls IV for the first time after years of hearing how great it was, and for a game made in 2006 it is a blast. I went from not caring about this newer one coming out to really looking forward to it, hopefully they don't drop the ball ala Dragon Age 2.

So I picked up Kingdoms of Amalur what with my love of Todd MacFarlane's art style, and being a huge fan of R.A. Salvatore's writing, and I have to say, I'm really impressed thus far. The game has a nice mixture of elements of Dragon's Age, Elder Scrolls, and God of War at times, and it's a really fluid, immersing storyline. I have little qualms, but nothing major.
As an early review, I have to say I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys the RP genre of gaming.

I got KOA: Reckoning from GameFly, but I'm still waiting for it to be delivered. The game looks good so I thought I'd give it a shot. But I just realized that it's the first game developed by 38 Studios, the company owned by Curt Schilling. As an avid baseball fan, and a hometown Red Sox fan, this was really interesting to me.

I'll be honest, knowing that Schilling was involved was my biggest deterrent. Darn Yankee loyalty. lol I'm only 8 hours or so in, but I'm definitely captivated.
I'd also add some elements of a single player World of Warcraft to it. It really is a nice amalgam.

See that is a major reason why I do not want anything to do with it. I can't stand Curt Schilling and it actually is not because of what he did on the Red Sox and Diamondbacks are more for the crap he talked after.
Though I would like to try the game out because I love those types of games. Oh and thank you Prophet for helping out the Rhode Island economy. After all we did give him $75 million dollars to move his company here (Rhode Island). So any little helps us

I feel the exact same way. It won't stop me from playing the game, I just can't stand him. It has nothing to do with what he did on the field. (You forgot the Phillies :p) He was an outstanding pitcher, who was never linked to any kind of PED, and you can't help but respect him even more for that. It's simply his political views. I don't necessarily disagree with him (never really thought about it) I just don't care what he has to say. He's not getting paid to talk politics, he's getting paid to analyze the sport. Do your job, and shut the hell up.

Mdickie recently released his entire back catalogue for free. Wrestling Mpire remix is a fun 3D sim (if a little quirky) and there is also a boxing sim, a video game industry sim and a music industry sim for those who are after some quick fun. I must reiterate that these are very flawed games almost undividedly, but if you're looking for something to fill a lunchbreak you can't really go wrong. Check it out :)

Ok so my I want to get a new baseball game for PS3 (haven't had one since EA made the college baseball game on PS2).
MLB 2K12
Impressions of it watching videos on youtube...
1) Looks like fantastic presentation. I really like this in games as it keeps things fresh and interesting I feel.
2) It has my hometown team on the cover with Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander (big Tigers fan).
3) The strategy to it seems more realistic.
What I want to know...
1) Playstation Move compatible? My fiance bought me the PS Move for xmas and I haven't played it yet. So I want a fun game I can play with it. She said she would play some baseball if it was compatible too.
2) Do the graphics bring it down that much? The Show looks better graphically but the presentation appears to be lacking a lot.
3) How is Franchise mode as that is my favorite part of any sports game. I love building teams up into dynasties.
MLB The Show
What I know about it...
1) It appears as though most people prefer it because of the graphics and physics.
2) Heard that it gets boring and games can take far too long.
3) I know it is Move compatible. So my fiance would give it a shot for sure.
I just want the most fun game that I can get into for a long time. Been playing NCAA Football 2012 pretty much since it came out. Want a new game to play and since it is baseball season that is what I am probably going to switch my focus to.

I've heard good reviews on the Vita, don't know how it is personally though. Might go for a PSP instead since they might be cheaper now.
Has anyone heard about the issue Capcom has pulled lately? Racks on racks of criticism they're getting for the initiative they're done via their newly released game, Street Fighter x Tekken. Long story short, they're gonna release a dozen characters through DLC when the Vita version comes out... except those characters, and all their moves, endings, etc are ON the disc already. I had a feeling DLC would get this fierce, but now this is literally a case of paying more for less content. I know business is business, but damn.
Luckily I wasn't hugely anticipating this game, only two reasons this concerns me is the fear of this crap becoming the norm, and also because two of my favorite Tekken characters(Bryan and Jack-X) are among the DLC crew.

Know what really grinds me gears about sequels? Especially sequels that begin right as the previous one ends?
I'll tell a story to explain what I'm trying to say so I don't mess it up.
So I finally sat down and finished God of War 2 and then immediately put God of War 3 in. At the end of 2 you have the Sword of Olympus which is apparently this amazing weapon that you get to use for all of 1% of the game. In all of the opening videos for GoW 3 it shows Kratos using the Sword of Olympus, yet in game you can't use it and the only magic you have is this tornado thing.
I get it, it's a new game, you shouldn't start out all powerful and what not, but come on.

I agree it is annoying. You should start out as powerful as you were before. Then the beginning of 3 should be basically a tutorial. If they want to have your sword taken away or something then work it into the story. Same with the magic and stuff. All sequels should work similiarly.

Yeah, that's a massively dick move by Capcom. Hopefully the backlash they'll get for this will indicate to people that customers won't stand for it. Capcom have gone down a hell of a lot in my estimations in recent times, and it's another blow to the Japanese gaming industry if they're going to start that kind of thing.

Agreed, dick move. I have zero problem with launch day DLC. Often times, the main game has gone gold and is ready for production long before it actually launches, which means there's a couple of months where they can keep working but whatever they work on won't be able to be added to the disc (and, if you buy it new, most companies give it for free).
But this is a step too far. I'm sorry, they weren't polishing it after the game went gold, they already had time to put everything on the disk and are now potentially charging people extra money to play something already on the disk. Of course, I have zero interest in the game in question, so meh.

This is a worrying trend lately, that's got the gaming community properly riled up (behind the banner of TotalBiscuit, natch).
I can't link to the video right now because I'm on my phone, but aforementioned Biscuit has talked about the issue over several Mailbox videos, and made an entire video dedicated to the Mass Effect 3 saga.
The ME3 thing is complete BS and Bioware are complete dicks. The "DLC" was developed as part of the game, that's been proven several times. This means it was specifically taken OUT of the game, AFTER it was created, and sold separately. This is completely wrong. Not to mention the fact that, for followers of the series, it's hardly an inconsequential piece of add-on content. It's a frickin' PROTHEAN!
I'd even go as far as saying that content that is essentially DLC, that IS a big part of the game, but is available for free to anyone who buys a new copy of the game (like the Catwoman stuff in Arkham City, or Shale for DA:O) is also fine, because trade-ins and second hand copies are evil and destroying everything. (Screw you, GAME/Gamestation. I laugh as your evil empire burns!).
Ummm... where was I? Yeah, so DLC is great, but it should be created AFTER the game is released (or at least after the development of the main game is finished), as a way to prolong the life of the development cycle (and keep developers in jobs) and prolong interest in the game.
It should definitely NOT involve REMOVING things that are already part of the game, and selling them separately.
Especially when you flagrantly lie to your fans and tell them it was all developed after the game was finished, and then that is proven to be BS. That... wasn't great PR. ¬_¬

The only downside I see is that it forces you to play online at all times. You can play by yourself if you want to, but you have to be online and logged in to play even the single player game.
Anyway, it's really great so far. Lots of whining about the server problems but I dont hear too many people complain about the game itself.

Server issues is one of the key focuses I hear for the first patch in a week or so. I'm going to hold off. It's 60 bucks that I can't really afford at this second, but I will in a few weeks. :D
Also, how close to the game play of II is it?

So I've mostly been playing the Firefall beta. It's pretty early in beta, and is obviously unfinished, but my GOD is this going to be an awesome game when it's done!
If you've never heard of Firefall, think... Team Fortress 2 meets Borderlands, has a cup of coffee with Tribes: Ascend and a one-night stand with Planetside. It's an MMOFPS, and so far it's looking brilliant. They haven't finished much content-wise, and there are several graphics issues they need to work on, but... it's looking awesome already.
Should tide me over until GW2 is released, anyway. Torchlight 2 soon, as well.
Better than staring at a login screen for a singleplayer game, at least. Ah, BlizzaDRM. Gotta love it.

I watched season one, and it was pretty good. The ages thing is very understandable, since Arya's storyline is only just about believable even in the series. And they'd never get away with having Dany anywhere near the show if she was only 14. :p
I've heard some... interesting, rage-inducing things about series 2 though.
As for frog girl, I heard they cut the Reeds entirely (which is understandable, to be fair. They're not essential, and there are way too many characters already for a TV show :p). Are you sure the girl isn't Osha, the Wildling that they pick up when Bran gets attacked in the first book. She's already in the show, so it would make sense to keep her there. Replacing her with Meera and cutting Jojen would be... bizarre.
Mind you, this is from the people that kept Ros the whore around and gave her essentially a gratuitous sex scene with GRAND MAESTER PYCELLE of all people. DID NOT NEED TO SEE. Seriously, what did we learn from that scene? Ros is a whore? Pycelle is really freakin' old? What? So, I guess bizarre isn't beyond them.

I'd say the Reeds are pretty essential, actually. Maybe not the characters themselves, but the role they play in Bran's story. You can combine them into one character for the purposes of the show (I actually assumed they would do this, though I figured they'd keep Jojen and ditch Meera ), but somebody's gotta do it. And it can't be Osha.
To keep my post semi on-topic, since this is the video game thread...I bought Castle Crashers yesterday. (Welcome to the year 2008!) I've been on a beat-em-up kick lately, and seeing that the game was 50% off on XBL this weekend was too convenient for me to pass up. It's a ton of fun so far.

I don't understand why so many people hold these adaptations to the source material so strictly. If they want the TV series to play out exactly like the novels page by page, then why bother watching it? Just read the books over and over again since the story the way they first heard it is the only way acceptable to them.
As far as the video game's plot goes, it's interchangable between the show and the books. I dont want to give anything away but it's a story that hasn't been told in either medium. Hardcore fans will notice nods to the books. TV series fans will notice the fact that several of the show's actors lend voices and likenesses to their video game counterparts.

Just read the books over and over again since the story the way they first heard it is the only way acceptable to them.
I agree with you. I'm not sure if I came off as a book snob in my post, but that wasn't my intention at all. I see the Reeds as essential because I don't see how they can tell Bran's story without them (or at least one of them), but if they can figure out a way to do so, you won't see me raging about it.
I notice the changes and form an opinion on them, but I'm not watching the show just to nitpick every little thing that's different. It's an adaptation, so changes are inevitable. Some I like, some I dislike, but I'm not going to throw a fit every single time a scene I like is omitted, or they change the way a certain character thinks or behaves.
Elsewhere on the Net, I saw much outrage over the fact that Myrcella cries on the boat, as opposed to the book, where she smiles, puts on a brave face and even comforts her little brother. One person said they were very annoyed at that change, even though they hadn't even noticed it until they came online and read other people complaining about it. That's just silly. And all over a scene that changes exactly nothing with regards to the actual plot.
Regarding the video game: I think it was a good decision to not try and recreate or adapt the story we're familiar with, and instead branch off into something new. Not a story that would translate very well into a game, IMO, unless you chopped out the actual story bits and just focused on more action-oriented portions.
I'll end with one non-GoT question: have the Diablo III server issues gotten any better? I have a friend who's thinking of buying it, but he's wary of doing so now.

I'm not sure how popular this will be, but I'd honestly prefer they do something radically different with Bran in the show. His story arc in the books is my least favorite thus far.

Because the visual medium is always going to be the dominant of the two in people's mind. Like, go ask somebody what they thought of The Walking Dead #78 at the grocery store... Describe the blank stare you get...
Unless what you're changing is unanimously for the better, you're doing the property a disservice. See: The Watchmen. Which now nobody talks about because the movie sucked.
I'd rather have to sit through the same awesome than something inferior, or worse... Superior. Because the thing I love gets shit on either way. Ones more digestible than the other; hurts both ways though.

Well I disagree with you. I don't feel a property I'm being entertained by should be judged on public opinion. All I care about is if I enjoyed it or not. I can't worry about what people think about everything because people are dumb.
Let people enjoy their adaptations. It just comes off snobby when people turn their nose up at changes like we're seeing in GoT. The main story is still very much intact. They're changing a few things around with the pacing of the story and shrinking the importance of some minor characters. Which every rational fan of the books understand they really have to do. They simply dont have the screen time to address every character in full detail and keep the story trucking along for a TV audience.
So when I hear people whining about these small changes, it reminds me of the LotR snobs who scoffed the movie because Tom Bombadil wasn't in it. So I roll my eyes and enjoy the show like I did with the LotR series.

I have not had an issue with the servers what so ever. Thats not to say problems dont exist. I just haven't had any. I mean it was down for a good chunk of the first 48 hours after launch, which was probably not the best thing for opinions on the game. It's understandable that people were let down after 12 years and $60 they installed their game to not be able to play it by themselves.
But I'm loving the game. Very good and addicting formula. I'm hooked right now. I couldn't say enough nice things about Diablo 3. And I'm not a fanboy I barely played Diablo 2 at all.

One of the guys in my DnD group has said after the first day the servers have been pretty good. There is a lag when in a crowded game, but other than that it's been fantastic.
GoT...While I'm of the opinion I have to judge for myself (I'm odd like that) I've watched some of the game play via live stream and I'm not sure I'll enjoy it.

Just to be clear, I wouldn't say I was a "book snob". I don't mind when they change STORY elements, sometimes they have to for the good of the show. Some things just don't work as well on screen as in writing.
What bothers me is when they change CHARACTER elements without good reason, or when they change story elements for no reason at all - including adding completely pointless scenes which aren't in the book and tell us nothing new. I get that they have to add some scenes, to tell us things that we need to know but haven't seen because for whatever reason it was in a scene that got cut, but when they add pointless scenes such as the Ros/Pycelle "the thing about Kings..." scene, it gets annoying. That's five minutes of screen time that could've been taken up by a useful scene.
The Myrcella thing, for instance, is actually a very good example. It might seem trivial and silly, but what's the point in changing that? To give it a TEW/wrestling perspective, if I wrote a WWE dynasty where John Cena was a massive pussy and ran away from fights left, right and centre it would be universally panned by the readers (unless it was part of a concious gimmick change, of course) because it's "not John Cena". Or if I wrote Chris Jericho as a Val Venis type playboy, same thing. Or William Regal as a hip hop star. Unless I'm conciously changing their character, which does happen in wrestling admittedly so it's a bit of a shoddy analogy, they have an established character. If I change that for no reason then it becomes "wrong", regardless of the fact that it's just made-up characters in a made up story. They have defined personalities - if you screw around with them for no reason, then what's the point in them being there? All the work that went into building their persona is thrown out of the window.
Omit them for brevity, sure. Have them do things they don't do in the books for the purposes of storytelling, sure, if it stays consistent with their character. But don't change their character for no reason. It's just senseless.
Maybe they wanted to "make her seem more vulnerable/childlike". That's not Myrcella, though. Have some random kids crying in the background if you want childlike vulnerability. Myrcella has to be strong.
Aaaanyway, vidya games...

Well after four years I am about to finally beat GTA IV.:o Yes it is a long time but I would like to add in that time I have had five different 360 systems die on me. Plus there were other games that I was more interested in.
When I do beat it, it will actually be the first GTA game that I beat. I never beat San Andreas because I was not able to finish that stupid toy plane mission and then my PS2 decided to die on me.
I am not sure why I never beat Vice City, there has to be a reason for that as well.

Do you keep your 360 in the oven or something?
I had my launch 360 die on me, which they fixed. But then it's Disc tray acted up so now I keep that in my basement and stream movies and TV to it while my black 360 elite sits up stairs in my living room.

I bought my original 360 about a week after they first came out. It lasted about a year, until it was unable to read the games.
The second one lasted about five months and then died of Red Ring of Death.
Microsoft sent me a rebuilt wreck which lasted for about a year before it died due to the RROD.
I was sent another rebuilt wreck that lasted for about a year or so before I had a problem with it (This time it was not the RROD but I do not recall what it was.).
Once again they sent me a rebuilt wreck which lasted until I want to say 2010 or so (I could be off on that.), that died due to the RROD.
Finally, I told them I wanted a new system and not a rebuilt one. They told me that they did not do that, yet they sent me a new one because it was dated 2010 (Well it could have been a rebuilt one for all I know.). That system has lasted until now, knock on wood.
What sucks is I spent a ton of moeny on the damn thing. It seemed every time one of my systems died the warranty had run out so I had to spend $120 a pop each time it died. Needless to say when the new one comes out I will not be buying it right away because I do not want to waste money on it like I did with the 360.

So I broke down and bought Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion... extremely disappointed.
The separate factions seem interesting at first. Titan warships are great if you can afford them. But with a $40.00 price tag it's a hell of a financial leap for what I considered to be minor additions to gameplay. I'm played mods that were deeper than this.
All in all I'd stay away for a few months until this price goes down to something a little more palatable. I'm REALLY surprised the reviews have been so good for this but critics dont actually have to pay for games so I guess that factors in.
If it were $10 I'd say this is an easy buy. But it's $40 and you can get a lot more game elsewhere if you already own SoaSE.
Now if you're interested in Sins of a Solar Empire in general and never played it... Rebellion may be an option. It includes all additions that previous expansions brought to SoaSE. So as a starter pack, it's actually a decent value. Problem is you won't really appreciate the new features and you can get SoaSE with it's previous expansion for about half the price of this.
SoaSE combines elements of 4X and RTS gameplay into a style that is truly unique to this game. It is one of the best strategy games I've ever played.
Rebellion as an add-on is extremely disappointing given the enormous price tag.

Great haul this weekend I think.
Took advantage of Gamestop's Buy Two, Get One Free campaign this weekend.
First trip I snagged Saints Row The Third, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Shadows of the Damned.
Second trip I snagged Skyrim, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, and Prototype 2.
The next few weeks(months for Skyrim) are going to be fun :D

Invisible War is a travesty. :p The PC port was lazy as all hell, to the point where the key prompts featured X-Box controller buttons instead of keyboard keys and the menu system designed to account for the lack of a mouse persisted in the PC version, where there clearly was a mouse (this from a developer who had previously been extremely PC-centric, with both Deus Ex and the Thief series).
The X-Box had 64mb of RAM. My computer had more than that on one stick. A map in Invisible War was thus about as big as Paul Denton's apartment in the original.
It looked like crap. I mean, Deus Ex was never a pretty game, but it was never a pretty world/city/story either. The grittyness of the graphics kinda fit, in a way. DE:IW looked like it was modelled from plasticine. And it did that real-time lighting thing that Doom 3 did. But badly.
The story sucked.
One ammo type fits all. Really? REALLY?
Invisible War was shite. It might have been decent if it didn't try to be a Deus Ex game, but... yeah.

Okay guys I need help here. I've been debating on Diablo III for a while. At first I didn't get it because of the server issues, then I didn't because this stupid website told me my video card wasn't good enough which we found out was a LIE! (though I"m looking to update it soon enough ANYWAY) now I'm just not sure if it's going to be worth the $60. I HATE spending money on something I"m not going to use/play.
I'm a huge huge huge fan of Diablo II as in I still play it like I did this morning. So I"m trying to get the amount of changes they have made to the game, in that will I still like the Battle/exploration system of it all. I know many people here have played it, but I'd really like a lot of opinions on this.
I've seen it played by a friend of a friend for about 5 minutes, but like most guys he really gets into the game and after a few minutes of him yelling at the people in the game with him...I had to walk away!. :)

MLT: I wasn't deeply into Diablo 2 enough to really get into the details you are looking for, but I own the game. I'll be honest I really enjoyed it for a few play throughs but once I put it down I personally haven't gotten back to it yet. But I will definately again. I just got into other things and other experiences, but I can lose myself in a dungeon crawler for several scattered weekends throughout the year. And I really do like Diablo 3 despite all the complaining.
I played some games recently that I wanted to bring up to the board readers. Football Manager Handheld 2012 is a masterpiece for what it is. A great game, and it brings me back to FM's older days where I personally had more fun with the game. There ARE flaws, which I hope will be corrected in future releases. Some formations just don't work and the CPU doesn't seem to do wing play properly, so if you set your team up to bring the ball up the middle you'll find success most likely. And your managerial options for the games are pretty limited. It's truly addicting and scary how deep it is. It's a cell phone game, but I'd be surprised at a version this deep if it came out for XBLA or something like that. Considering I'm a casual soccer fan, this level of depth is PERFECT for me so I'm really loving it. My poor phone is going to be taking a beating over the next few days.
Also: Bellator Onsaught. Game's just not good. There's little to no redeeming quality to the game but I'd bet there's a few people out there who enjoy MMA enough to basically play any game with the sport as the centerpiece. Only 8 fighters in the whole game (no Eddie Alvarez either) in the LW and FW divisions, the game is limited in reach. The CAF exists but again, extremely limited. It's goal is to create an MMA experience for $20 but considering you can buy an older UFC game (if for some reason you skipped those) for even less that will be much better in quality. I basically think UFC Undisputed 3 IS an arcade MMA game but whatever. I wouldn't spend a dime on this one.
Finally: Endless Space. Now I didn't actually play this one yet as I'm going to hold off for a sale but my buddy did buy and showed it to me yesterday for a few minutes while we were taking a break from the heat at his BBQ. It's basically the true spiritual successor to the original Sword of the Stars. It's more streamlined and the menus are much easier to navigate. Blows away SotS 2. I have a lot of gaming on my plate right now so I can hold off a bit. But once this baby goes on sale for an acceptable price I will own it. It's a true space 4X game and looks beautiful, especially for an "indie" game.

Still haven't gotten head-over-heels into Europa Universalis 3 yet. Because of the god damn steam sale I bought way too much crap, yet oddly got into Microsoft Flight.
It's amusing for a little while to fly around. I just hooked up my PC to a 5.1 surround sound system someone gave me so I'm getting sick sounds from my PC games. I need a new sound card though. Microsoft Flight is awesome from a technical standpoint but as far as "stuff to do" there's not much. It's free to start on Steam but it's very micro-transaction heavy. It's a lot more accessible than years past but it's also more limited in scope. So far you can fly around Hawaii and Alaska, and they are two separate mission packs that run you about $20 each. Seems like a rip-off when you figure in the Microsoft Flight Simulator basically allowed you to fly anything from a small aircraft to a commercial airline anywhere int he world.
I also bought Just Cause 2: Micheal Bay's Wet Dream for $4. It's a mess from a control standpoint, but the damn thing looks AMAZING on the PC. The graphics are pretty damn good. This game has a ton of explosions, which fall into other things which cause even more powerful and larger explosions. And these explosions look gorgeous. In short, it's pretty awesome. It's got a ridiculous amount of action but sometimes I get confused with all that's going on. It's supposedly "open world" but most of the missions seem pretty straightforward to me. In all, picking it up for $4 was a no brainer and I'd recommend it to anyone who's been looking for a dumb shooter to occupy some time.
I also bought Tropico 4, Dawn of War II, and Wings of Prey so I have plenty of gaming on the PC to occupy my time until Madden and Fifa come out.
