Well, he did vote like literally two minutes after The Shape, so it being a coordinated speedlynch does seem possible.

Seems a little too... obvious, though, to be doing it like that, on D2. You'd like to spread your votes out a little more than that, especially so early.

But MH is still learning how to play as scum, so...

That's if we assume they're in the same group.

Astil, you also said "you're scum, I'm calling it" to me... but hey, I guess if you keep "calling it" in terms of who's scum, you'll be right eventually! :p

That said, I agree MH seems a bit on the suspicious side. Definetly one of those at the end of the bak lynch that just sorta popped in to rush it along. Doesn't necessarily mean he's scum, but it was eyebrow raise worthy.

I'd say Gabbo, Max Peck, SuperOwens, The Shape, and MichiganHero's votes seemed the most "rush"-like to me.

Kobe's vote also seemed off to me.

Indeed, perhaps we're on the same wave here.

I considered adding Paws to that list, but the hammers never seem as off to me as the ones that led up to it. I don't know, as scum, it's something you really want to avoid doing if you don't have to, and this early, with a scum result, they shouldn't have had to by any stretch.

Still, her vote did peak some people's interests - being willing to hammer someone she believed to be a doctor... and it is a pretty good point.

I have already said this once and said the reason why I think he is Scum as well. And yes Jaded is still jumping out at me, just for the simple fact Jaded seems to post more when town and less so when Scum. But that is just my opinion and I was wrong about MLT.

A Result as specific as "Vampire Cult" makes me pretty certain that Midnightnick is telling the truth. You can't get that precise and just be making it up. That'd be suicide. I'll definitely be putting my vote down, after we've put more of the phase time to good use.

And I still haven't figured out whether or not I'm Paranoid, Insane, or Random... But for what it's worth, MichiganHero came up "Not Good Aligned", which is effectively what Bak42 came up, as well. And considering Bak42 ended up being Good Aligned... I don't know. We'll hopefully find out, soon.

Though I'm really hoping I turn out to be Insane.

At least that way, I can be useful, once I get things figured out.

Until then, I'm just the guy kicking doors in. I think.

The man looked around to see if the hallway was clear before he went inside. He started the timer on his watch, and began to sing as he entered the room, 'Would you like to swing on a star, carry moonbeams home in a jar...'

There was a tapping on the door. 'Who is it?', but no reply came. A quick look through the eye-hole didn't reveal anyone standing there. Cautiously she opened the door... 'Awww, how cute!'

He sat bolt upright in bed. He was sure someone was in his room. Peering through the darkness he couldn't see where they were. Suddenly he saw a figure slip out from the shadows but it was too late to for him to react.

The scream echoed throughout the hotel.

Bracing himself he kicked the door open and charged in. 'Damn, no-one home'. He began a search of the room looking for clues until he came across something interesting. 'Gotcha'.

He had his hand firmly clasped on his weapon as he crept into the room, knowing his foe was a dangerous one. But looking around the room it was obvious this wasn't the person he was looking for.

Sensing danger he was hurrying back to his hotel room, peering around each corner for potential killers as he went. He only had one more hallway to go before he made it back to the safety of his room, but someone had other ideas as their blades plunged into his back.

She was walking through the hallway to her room when a man approached her. 'Madam, you are very beautiful, but your hair needs a little something extra to make you the very definition of beauty. Come to my room and I'll work on it throughout the night, if need be, and I'll transform you into such a vision that people will need to avert their eyes from such blinding beauty.'.

The man prepared himself as he knew this was a dangerous situation he was in. He opened the door to set off for the task ahead, but was greeted by a man stood outside his room. 'Hey man, what you doin' standing out here?'.

The man only grinned, his wild eyes filled with increasing rage. In the blink of an eye he tossed a liquid forwards, burning the face off his victim.

The door swung open, 'I did not order any room service, you have made a mistake.'.

A shiver ran down the man's spine, 'Ah, ummm, I'm terribly sorry to have disturbed you, sir', as he backed away from the door and hurried away.

The man entered the room and found his target preparing for the night ahead. She looked up, 'What are y...'

'Sh!'

'But...'

'Sh!'

'How...'

'Knock knock'

'Who's there?”

'Sh!'

The man pointed a device at the woman and fired, freezing her on the spot. 'It's frickin' freezing in here.'.

*knock knock* No reply. *knock knock* 'Police, open up.'. Still no reply. 'Guess we'll have to do this the old fashioned way', but the door opened before he could kick it in. 'Damn, I love doing that too. Anyway, come out where I can see you, I need you to answer some questions.'.

He made sure the coast was clear before entering the room. 'Too easy', he chuckled to himself as he poured a liquid over his soon to be dissolved victim.

I couldn't help but notice that it would appear you're losing your hair, but I can assure that with my expertise I could transform it to make you appear ten years younger. Would you be interested in my services?'.

'Errrr, ok, sure.'.

This made for a nice change as he hadn't had any time-off in a while, he'd had a few drinks at the bar and decided to have an early night. Little did he realise someone was waiting for him to return to his room. As he opened the door they grabbed him by the throat and were about to plunge their blades into his chest, when out of nowhere a masked figure appeared and fought off the attacker.

The figure had been waiting in the shadows for it's victim to fall sound asleep, and now the time had come.

The Shape is dead, he was Dr Evil, Corleone Family Aligned Evil Genius.

The acid is the kill on MLT. Note MLT is a female character.

Look how he runs in and says "to easy" on his "victim"

MLT was frozen first and then killed with Acid.

The blades guy (SK?) attacks someone but it was fought off by a protector.

That leaves the scream as the only other kill.

So N1 kills were screams and Blades

N2 kills SCreams and Acid

For all I know, N1, the acid attack was on me. It failed, again, because I aint got time to bleed or melt. Just a theory though.

Either way, its entirely possible that the Vampire cult isn't a cult, its a mafia group with a kill. Assuming MNN's result is correct that is.

MLT was apparently a vig. Could be that they picked up her hints, figured that out, and decided to keep her from killing any of them.

Which may also explain the rather low kill count so far.

If I'm right... the scream is the vampire cult kill. They killed Arrows N1, killed Shape N2 (dueling scum groups)

Blades is the SK. Killed Petrija N1, Blocked/met a protector N2

If you were hit by acid then you are one ugly mofo and possibly the guy that room service encountered.

If its not you then the guy from night one that was burned by acid is still possibly the guy room service saw.

Well 9 times out of 10 Gabbo is Scum so it is probably not that much of a stretch.:D

I figure MLT died simply because of that. You obviously had one protector watching her bak (get it?), and in all likelihood any other protectors out there probably already have other folks in mind. So with the guy protecting her dead... seemed unlikely someone else would take his spot, leaving MLT open to kill.

1. Midnightnick, got a Vampire Cult Aligned result on Mded.

2. Michigan was one of several people that seemed to rush the Bak lynch, so he's up there on a few people's scum lists.

It's completely legitimate. It always is. It's also always at the beginnings of games with themes I'm unfamiliar with or where there's a million zillion people. Before, I'd make a fool out of myself thinking I knew what was going on when I clearly didn't. Now I'm using my discretion and making sure I don't say anything ridiculous.

The fact that people think it's some kind of work just shows that some people actually think I'm a good enough player to do that. :D

The more I read of bak's claim, it didn't make sense to me. A protecter who claimed miller as well. 'Twas a bit fishy to me.

A Result as specific as "Vampire Cult" makes me pretty certain that Midnightnick is telling the truth. You can't get that precise and just be making it up. That'd be suicide. I'll definitely be putting my vote down, after we've put more of the phase time to good use.

And I still haven't figured out whether or not I'm Paranoid, Insane, or Random... But for what it's worth, MichiganHero came up "Not Good Aligned", which is effectively what Bak42 came up, as well. And considering Bak42 ended up being Good Aligned... I don't know. We'll hopefully find out, soon.

Though I'm really hoping I turn out to be Insane.

At least that way, I can be useful, once I get things figured out.

Until then, I'm just the guy kicking doors in. I think.

Honestly, I was gonna jump into the thread after Night phase and vote Shape. I was damn near positive he was scum, just knew it. I'll even proove it after the game.

That said, I had a back-up plan...

I'd say Gabbo, Max Peck, SuperOwens, The Shape, and MichiganHero's votes seemed the most "rush"-like to me.

Kobe's vote also seemed off to me.

To be fair, I had to leave then and all the votes piled on after me. Nothing had happened all afternoon, I waited as long as I could before I had to go. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and nothing satisfied my concerns so I voted.

However Michigan Hero and Paws both seem off to me this game, I have notes on Paws but can't get to them at the minute. She's very scummy though.

Well I for one did not see The Shape as scum this game so good call on who offed him.

Corleone Family is what we are dealing with, it must a group of bad guys for various movies and genres. Because that is the only way we would be dealing with having Dr. Evil in the Corleone family. So who is the Don? Vito, Sonny, Michael, or Vincent. I guess it would hardly matter but I am just wondering who UT decided to put in this game.

Last night there is that and more, but still just two dead...

Scream could be recruitment or could be kills? A cult normally has a kill doesnt it. It could even be both. One a kill one a recruitment.

Don’t go out at night (locked up). When visited 3 things can happen normal (what ever the person was there to do), Freed (become a protector to the person who frees me), and Scare (blocks their ability from affecting me).

Today is the Aquatennial and right behind my building is the Mississippi river. Which means ski jumps and such are going on and I have to make sure people don’t or park behind the building meaning I will be away from my desk a lot. Seeing as behind my work is a giant car and bike path, yet our policy says people can only pass through and not stay. Saying this now so when people go look he left they know why.

Night 1 shows us that the acid actually does kill the same night, because that's the only "death scene" that tells us who the target is.

Agreed. Scream doesn't read as a kill. My rule for movies/TV: no body, no death. We're not seeing a dead body in that part of the write-up, so I'm saying no death. Maybe undeath.

Acid and blades=death... but I don't think the acid is the Corleone's kill. Seems clear to me Dr. Evil killed MLT (who else talks like that?!) with a freeze gun, or... whatever. Starting to think the acid killer might be a SK. He seems to have a little more emotion in it than your average hitman.

Probably comes down to mod discretion of what "happened first". Though my gut instinct says the investigation happens first, as it'd be hardly fair to be investigated and come up scum the exact same night you're recruited. Nothing like be told you're scum by an investigator before you've even recieved a PM telling you you're now scum.

Like I said, it's a mod discretion sorta thing. I just think that, if I ran a game with a Cult, I wouldn't put players in a position like that. Clearly, Taker can run things however he wants.

Still, something to keep in mind MNN (and OLF). Just because someone looked clean last night may mean, with a Cult running around, that maybe all isn't well with that person.

The only thing is that for the Aliens their blood was acidic so they'd have to be hurt for the acid to be attributed to them. Normally they just brutally killed their prey no acid needed.

Not to mention the killer has eyes... which they don't... and throws the acid in their faces.

Possible there's a connection of some sort, but it's not a xenomorph alien running around throwing acid.

I was on public connections while modding BOTH DBZ and Toy Story mafia! Sometimes felt like ripping my hair off.

I would think it would happen once it's over, like all at once. You send the recruit PM first, and then the result and all. All that would unfold at sunrise. Similar to when someone gets recruited and dies the same night, would be shown his updated role title(though I think some mods play it chronologically).

Its an old complaint of mine, but if there is a recruitment, it should be clear in the write up its a recruitment.

Kills are clear enough, some kind of weapon or attack.. mentions of pain, blood, etc.

The acid thing and the screams.. actually both seem dubious to some degree, so I won't complain if there are recruitments, because things could be similarly opaque.

The question I ask myself is, why are some things written about transparent, and others aren't. The mod sees the big picture....

Could be we are due for a 'big reveal' later on, or maybe UT is compensating for something now. A balance issue perhaps?

I do not know that he is Scum, I think he is Scum. Big difference, and I have said before why I feel this way. It is because when he is town he is normally more vocal/active in the game. When he is Scum...not so much.

Could I be wrong?

It's been a busy few days for me, and I admit I expected this lynch to be over by the time I got home tonight. I've not bothered to organise an MHM Drivah, so these are just some random thoughts about the major issues.

After reading over some things, I tend to agree that the acid sounds like a kill, but I'm struggling to think of any character it would fit. Somebody said it could be a serial killer and I think that could be right. Knives for the mafia, screams for vampire recruitments, and acid for an indie kill. I just can't think of an acid killer without thinking of John George Haigh, and while there was a great TV Movie about him several years ago, I don't think that would make the cut.

I understand the motivation for being suspicious of the last few votes on Bak, but I think some people just can't resist a bandwagon, especially when there was an apparent scum result attached, and a not great defence. Easy mistake to make.

From what I've seen of MNN's play previously, I'm willing to trust him for now on this. He's never been the type to put himself at risk to get a single mislynch. Also, if there's a cult, we need to hit them fast, getting rid of a cult early is often the key to securing a town victory.

I will never be Scum so you don't have to worry. The T in Mr. T Jobs to Me might have meant always town...well I don't really have a letter that matches that in my name. However, I guess as Tommy Lasorda once said, "I bleed Dodger blue (in this case replace Dodger with Town).:)

Now onto the MLT theory, if she did have a kill it would make sense that she would have tried it on Gabbo (she did try to use her powers on him that night).

Depends on the situation. Some games, scum groups can't win together. I know in VG mafia everyone in my scum group wanted to kill Derek's scum group.

Look at the Bak lynch.
Shape knew Bak wasn't in his group, but may have suspected Bak was scum. Didn't stop him from voting, or for that matter, pushing for the lynch.

That's a completely different situation to actively targeting fellow scum.

A Result as specific as "Vampire Cult" makes me pretty certain that Midnightnick is telling the truth. You can't get that precise and just be making it up. That'd be suicide. I'll definitely be putting my vote down, after we've put more of the phase time to good use.

Basically my thoughts. If Mded comes up with the exact alignment MNN says, then I'm hapy to believe MNN's town. If MNN got ablities then yeah that's scummy, but alignments don't matter to scum. They need to kill everyone that isn't in their group. So this could end up being a very good phase should we lynch a cult recruiter and go someway to confirming a town cop. Albeit with a target over his head.

And I still haven't figured out whether or not I'm Paranoid, Insane, or Random... But for what it's worth, MichiganHero came up "Not Good Aligned", which is effectively what Bak42 came up, as well. And considering Bak42 ended up being Good Aligned... I don't know. We'll hopefully find out, soon.

Kinda redundant though, don't you think? Scum vote everywhere really. They vote on town, they vote on other scum and often they'll vote on themselves too. Sometimes voting patterns will truly be a tell but I think these days its awareness has gone way up by view of scum.

Not quite.

I've actually been inordinately busy, and every time I've had free time the prospect of reading through the topic has grown more and more daunting to me. I finally took 2.5 hours and power read through everything tonight though. I have some thoughts that will become more concrete once I have a chance to do some questioning during the day time.

Random thoughts:

1. Destiny is very active this game. I've observed that when he's town he tends to be more quiet than when he's scum (although he is quiet all of the time compared against the average poster).

My theory is that this is probably because when he knows he's town and thus feels he can stand up to intense questioning at some point he feels more comfortable withholding information. As scum, he feels the need to be more active early in an effort to eliminate himself as a suspect when the vote totals are high.

Even if one does something suspicious at the beginning of the game, not getting lynched is a likely result and at that point one can go several phases before being pressured again. My estimation would be that Destiny realized this.

As such, my current thoughts are that Destiny is scum.

No proof yet.

2. MNN is okay, obviously. MH is probably okay although I'd prefer not to go into details on that at this time.

3. Tha Black Phenom And/OR Comradebot are scum. I'm leaning toward the OR at this point but the ANDwouldn't be surprising to me.

4. Astil is indy most likely, but outright scum or scum leaning indy wouldn't surprise me. I'd like to lynch him ASAP.

5. Bluestar doesn't sit well with me. I don't know why yet, but I'll find out.

6. I think there is a slightly greater than 50% chance Antithesis is scum, but only slightly and depending on what happens tonight that thought process might change.

2. I missed out on using it (my ability) the one time I could have so far (My parents home flooded recently, life was really hectic at that time and I just didn't have time for mafia that day iirc).
3. I'm not entirely sure that my ability will be useful even once I use it. My character sounds incompetent.
4. I'm male.
5. My character is from the 1990s.

If I were part of a cult and my leader were lynched I would actually be really excited about it. The idea of surviving to the end as part of a cult without being able to grow our members sounds like a really fun challenge.

Technically, if I understand a cult correctly then once their leader is dead they can't recruit new members. So since I wouldn't be going out at night then I wouldn't be implicated doing something scummy. My challenges then would be to cultivate a character profile that the scum wanted around while still earning the relative trust of the town.

Would I care which side won in that case? More specifically, are cults like survivors or do they have to be a majority amongst the 3-5 groups in a big game (Town, mafia/mafia, SK, other) to win? In the case of the former the win condition sounds fairly easy. In the case of the latter it sounds near impossible.

Additional thoughts on Destiny and Astil:

He (Destiny) obviously believes that staying low key is the optimal win/survival strategy based on his typical play. As such, it makes sense to look into what rationale he could have for speaking up.

Typically, he must be pressured before he speaks up as town. This makes sense. He doesn't want to draw attention to himself lest he become a scum target for what could be a myriad of different reasons.

But as scum, however, the psychology changes. He isn't worried about what scum think but what town think. And quietness is associated with scummy play. So he posts more... but he posts early when a lynch is unlikely. Once he's established a presence/vague claim that stands up under reasonable pressure (not difficult when lynch requirements are so high early in the game and most people are giving very little) then he buys himself many phases while other people are pressured.

The later in a game you are pressured for the first time, the more you're forced to reveal. So a smart scum wants to be pressured early since everyone will be pressured eventually.

On that note...

This is why Astil is so frustrating to play/understand. He always draws attention to himself early and becomes the subject of pressure. However, he is forced to give up little of real substance and then from there future inquiries against him are brushed aside because he's already "claimed."

Investigating a guy like him should always be priority number one. The fact that he's claimed some sort of indy role so early just makes me want to get rid of him ASAP.

C-Bot taking four minutes to make a relatively short/simple reply early on in the game stands out to me for some reason. His commentary with Phenom (while insubstantial) also strikes me as odd/off. The probability that they are both scum is just over 20%... high considering that there are more than 25 players still in the game and that little has given much information.

I haven't looked closely at Paws yet. I still have residual town thoughts associated with her from last game and am not yet capable of being objective when it comes to her.

I have thoughts on zeel1, but won't share them at this time.

The result seemed very Role Cop-esque to me, which is scum the majority of the time. Now granted, I still haven't played a huge amount of games - nevermind a lot of games that have had Role Cops in them, but don't they sometimes get full Role PMs?

Maybe it's just because I just now came out of a game where I was with a Role Cop who basically claimed a Role Cop - and even tried to get who we thought was the Mercenary lynched with it to make him look more townie - but I feel just a little uneasy about him.

Not saying I want to lead a charge against MNN - he helped us catch scum, and possibly even stopped a Cult from gaining recruits, and I'm grateful for that - I just don't really want to say he's 100% cleared. Just keeping my eye on him for the moment, you understand. I'm not looking to be played, and I feel he's one of those players that could and would pull this kind of thing off... Besides, if he is indeed a town role cop, then he could probably use a little suspicion dropped his way, so he probably doesn't mind this all that much...

The Destiny matter is very iffy. Last time he was scum, he tried to take on the "town leader" role and post fluently and consistently.

However, because of the implications of last game there's well a chance he just decided to suit up and play the game to the best of his concern, putting in some solid effort.

But THEN, there's a chance he may have used that as the perfect excuse for his behavior, and re-enact his prominent "town" posting habit with a solid explanation behind it. Just that... I would doubt he'd repeat the same card play again(only that this time he doesn't promote the "town leader" tag). It's quite hard to tell. I'd be leaning on him being town for the moment.

Hmmm... maybe. I follow your logic and think it's very sound. My thought process here is more so focused on the general proclivity of Destiny to seemingly play quiet that pre-dates my (brief) time in the games - based on what others have said about him and re-reading some old topics.

Destiny is at around 70% likely scum for me. Not really enough to lynch quite yet in light of a much more appealing candidate in Astil.

2. It places a big target on my back. This makes me a scum target, but it also makes me a target to be watched/protected etc. so in the event of my being attacked it's much more likely that useful information is extracted from the attempt/success than a less high profile target.

No one is gonna bother protecting the one who runs her mouth every night. If you get popped, it's gonna be on yourself. Protectors have their own guys in mind to protect.

We have investigators out there, characters hinted at left and right. IF there's someone out there who can protect after bak, they'll protect those who are in actual danger. Likely possibility? I think not. Why would they go after a less high profile target to begin with?

I think Astil is probably indy. I just think that there is also the possibility he's scum, and almost no possibility he's town. I also think that his play style makes it unlikely he's pressured again in the near future. So it's better to just get rid of him nowish. Better safe than sorry, and if he really is indy that would have helped us then we lose comparatively little against a mis-lynch. The probability that he's town is negligible, so meh. :cool:

I also think it (his death) will yield some useful information that I don't want to share at this time.

The most likely result of most of my early theories in a game are that they're wrong. I refine and improve them by aggressively testing them, however. That's how one cultivates a good scum/town list imo.

Me being protected is actually the least likely scenario. More probably, however, I'll be watched which is in many ways more useful. I dislike dying, but not enough to play the game in a way that I feel is counter-intuitive.

Well that's great. Keep talking at night so they can watch you. I guess me and my ALPHA scum team will go spread our business elsewhere! :o

You know, I think I would really enjoy being a PGO in a mafia game. Of all the roles but SK and PI I think I would like that the best.

Drew that once, in Literal Mafia over on Neoseeker. Caught scum the very first night.

That was a good moment for me... :p

Though OLF would argue that it was bad luck that it happened, as it let scum know right away who the PGO was, but meh. The way I see it, dead scum is dead scum.

Even though I expected to be killed in that phase (I even actively tried to be attacked under the accurate premise that someone would watch me and it would result in catching scum), I was surprised (in hindsight stupidly so) that you guys sent Ken after me.

I thought there was only a 65% chance he was scum (not enough to lynch at that point, and based mainly on process of elimination and a singular comment he made about "not being very good at the game"), and more importantly if he was I didn't think you guys would take my night declaration that I was going to investigate him literally in light of my mis-leading you at other points in the game. When it came up that both he and Destiny targeted me the next day I actually thought he was an SK that had panicked when I made the post that I was going to target him. I mistakenly assumed than any scum group wouldn't take anything I said at face value at that point.

That, alongside my presumption that the town would continue to use my scum list in the event of my death were my two biggest miscalculations.

True, it was fairly clear we couldn't take everything you said literally, but at the same time, when you told us you were going to be looking into one of our members, we couldn't take the chance of letting you live. It would've been far too reckless to just assume you were bluffing in that situation.
