EA has bought the rights to ALL NFL players, stadiums, or anything. Doesn't really effect sim games, as I don't know of any who really pay for the licensing anyway.

Yet, people complained about Madden not changing year after year in the past, it's sure going to happen now. As there will be no competition. Does anyone honestly think that Sega will continue to make their NFL game without being able to use NFL players?

This is just a big crock of ****. There has to be some lawsuit going to stem from this complaining that it's against antitrust laws. By law, this isn't illegal, but neither was Microsoft putting Internet Explorer on Windows. Yet, it was considered to be violating antitrust laws.

What's next? They buy the NBA, and MLB licensing completely too?

Actually, it sounds like both Arlie and Jim think that this will be a good thingin the end:

Yeah, well ... they have a different point of view than the rest of us.

They may be right, but they also said it sucks for consumers. Which is the angle I must be looking at things from, as that's what I am. :D

Those of us who would never buy a joystick jockey game anyway couldn't possibly care less. :D If this means that Sega sues EA, and in the fallout, real names get allowed in text sims, that will increase the number of people buying text sims, which will increase the resources that text sim programmers have to work with, which will improve text sims. I see absolutely *zero* downside to that scenario.

You're talking about what might happen, I'm talking about what has already happened.

I'm pissy as someone who plays ESPN NFL Football over Madden that there's even just a chance that ESPN Football won't continue in the form that we know it now.

I already didn't like EA because of they way they've torn apart developers like Bullfrog ... but this is ridiculous.

You're talking about what might happen, I'm talking about what has already happened.Agreed, but as I stated from the beginning, here's one consumer that will have *zero* negative impact from what has already happened, and only the potential for positive impact by what might happen.
