My first render attempt. Not good by any means considering I can't seem to get 90% of the stuff I downloaded to work and this stuff still confuses the crap out of me. Anyhoot, first render, crappy, worthless, but here nonetheless.

Thanks for the comments Trell. And as this is a render thread, here's another 2. Not too sure of the first one, but I was pretty happy with how the 2nd one came out (I used the Nocturnis clown face paint for the second one).

Hey guys, could I possibly have a render done for a Mexican wrestler?
Would prefer if he was masked, but not a necessity, and for him to be fairly young and handsome. It is for a generated wrestler, and he has some good skills, so I was thinking of hiring him for my dynasty game.
Thanks in advance.

knocked this one up really quick for ya, but I'm pretty limited as far as masks go. I may give this one another shot next week... I can get you an alt without the mask too if you want, but it'd have to wait til monday or tuesday. Hope you like it.

Could anybody make me a picture of Harry Wilson with the paint Raven has in this picture: http://www.onlineworldofwrestling.com/pictures/r/ravensflocktna/03.jpg
and could you also give him some stubble? Thanks in advance.
I came up with a gimmick for him where he's similar to Raven, and I thought it would be cool if I could get a new picture of him for this.

Looks good i effin rule, it's nice to see more people getting into the rendering habit. I'm not a huge lover of the Apollo figure myself, although there is now a decent wrestling pack avaiable for him (I wish the singlet for Michael was more like the one in the pack).
Fleisch, looks like you're going along well too. The sooner people get into editing textures (adding tattoos, etc), the better really. As a tip I always repeat to people working with tattoos, facepaint, etc, play around with the opacity levels of what you're pasting on. Really thick black designs can look a lot more natural with the slider set around the 80-90% mark.
On a sidenote, I stumbled across this site today...
http://www.poserworld.com/Home.aspx
Has anyone here signed up there before? There seems to be a lot of interesting bits and pieces over there, although sadly with buying a first house and moving in soon, I won't be signing up anytime soon.

Thanks for the advice Sebsplex. I shall try what you suggested next time. I was never very good at getting the opacity right so your suggestion should help to fix that.
As for the link you posted, I've signed up and to be honest I'm not entirely impressed with what you get for your money (there are a few good bits but it depends on which models you have) Most of the stuff for Michael 3 is not that good (same for V3 and V4). The Daz site and Renderosity are still much better.

I dont think anyone ever did a real world render of Ric Flair. They usually take 10-12 hours to make and then some time so render. I maybe be wrong but I dont remember seeing it.

He still has a very military look about him in the face. The square jaw and murder in the eyes adds to that.
Thanks jtlant. And on the bright side I took the time while waitting to start trying to research all what goes into rendering. I'm pretty sure I might start doing some stuff to, once my financial situation is a bit more stable (right now rendering parts would take money I could spend on music and music supplies)
But with any luck, maybe some time I can start helping out around here instead of just mooching.

Ok I've cut all my renders. There are about 36 (3 workers have an alt pic as well). They have been given names based on the people from mine and my cousins old e-fed we done back in 1995. Use them if you wish, re-name them for your own private games or dynasties, but if used as part of a mod, I do expect credit to be given. Thanks and enjoy.

Random request, but I'm thinking about doing an angle in my PGHW game involving Masaru Ugaki threatening to jump ship to BHOTWG (a la RVD and his "Mr. Monday Night" gimmick in ECW). I was wondering if anybody could do an alt of Ugaki with some kind of flame facepaint around his eyes (similar to The Insane Heat, although not necessarily the exact same - I'd prefer more of a blue/purple coloring if possible, but if not, that's fine too) for his BURNING Ugaki gimmick. Anybody feel like taking a stab at this for me?

Thought I'd put this hear as well. Apparently DAZ 2.1 is now available for those who use DAZ.
http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=83248
Auto Magnetize * QuickStart Interface * Display Optimization * Content Manager
It's all available in
DAZ Studio 2.1
See how much easier DAZ Studio now is to use and learn!
Check out the new features . . .
Auto Magnetize: When loading a piece of content, the application checks to see if the figure has magnets assigned. If the figure has magnets, they are automatically applied to the piece of content being loaded.
QuickStart Interface*: Built into your DAZ Studio 2.1 engine, this user friendly interface takes you through the application step-by-step, making anyone's introduction into 3D a breeze. Tell your friends, it's their time to try!
Display Optimization: By optimizing the Viewport display, Display Optimization makes the movement of a figure or scene perform faster. Now the shaded geometry will update in real time. Look for further improvements!
Content Manager*: The Content Manager relies upon an underlying database engine that will ultimately allow you to categorize and search for content that will make finding what you are looking for quicker and easier than navigating multiple file system directories.
“With these new features, DAZ Studio 2.1 has moved a step beyond Poser and other mainstream, more expensive 3D applications. DAZ Studio 2.1 is great and easy to use. It’s just the program I have been looking for.”
- M. Milam (“Rosetta”), DAZ 3D Published Artist.
* Optional features
Click here to download. It's still free!
Version 2.1 does not require any plug-in update from version 2.0.
If you would like to download DAZ Studio without any of the new included content you may download it here:
DAZ Studio 2.1 Core Installer, no content (WIN)
DAZ Studio 2.1 Core Installer, no content (MAC)
NOTE: The content is new for this release, it's not the same as what was in 2.0.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE CONTENT MANAGER
As part of this latest release, there are some things surrounding workflow and the categorization of content when using the new Content Manager option, that existing DAZ Studio users will want to understand before diving right in to the new version. Since this is the first release of this feature, there are still several imperfections with how it works. We already are working on an updated version of this feature, and will be making major improvements in the next release of DAZ Studio. However, even this first release can be a major benefit to many users, so we wanted to get it out and start collecting your feedback to make sure that the future releases help to form this tool into what you really want it to be.
The following is a "primer" of sorts of what to expect when running this latest version:
What you should know about the Content Manager before getting started with it:
What is the Content Manager?
The new DAZ Studio Content Manager is a powerful feature that allows you to categorize your content in any way you like. Using a database, the Content Manager allows you to create "categories" for your content which you can define and organize in any way you like.
For instance: Suppose you prefer to have all of your Victoria related content separated out from all of your other figures and their add-ons. Using the Content Manager, you can create a "Victoria" category, and then drag and drop all of your Victoria content into this category, including any sub-categories that you would like to nest inside the "Victoria" category.
Use of this new feature can be as big as a move like that, or something even much simpler, such as creating a "MAT Poses" category and dragging and dropping all of your MAT pose directories and their contents into that single "MAT Pose" category, so that they no longer are mixed in with all your "real" pose presets.
The sky is literally the limit with this new tool. And of course, it's an optional tool, you do not need to use it if you do not choose to.
Here are some helpful explanations and tips on how this tool works, and the ways you can get the most out of it:
There are 2 ways to get content from your hard drive into the Data Base (DB):
1) you can do an automated scan, this will scan all your mapped runtimes and add the data into the DB. NOTE: Using this option will scan ALL mapped runtimes and create a consolidated list of categories that encompasses all of your runtimes and their content (ie, it will combine them all together in the database - your actual runtimes and files will NOT be moved on the harddrive).
2) [Recommended for existing users with lots of content already arranged in custom methods] You can choose to “view files as list” within the Content Tab's advanced options. Then, browse to a folder and right-click on it, then select “Create Category from Folder”. This way you are moving data to the DB in controlled sections, one at a time, as you want to.
Any content that is new to the DB is highlighted visually. This means that new content is highlighted in the “View Categories” view. You’ll see that it is colored different or it has a mark next to the file or category name indicating that it’s new. You can then browse through the categories to find where the actual files are listed in the database. Once you select a highlighted piece of content, it will be cleared and no longer be highlighted. You can also right-click on the asset, and select “Mark as Viewed”. This will clear the settings of the new data.
Scanning can take some time if you have large sets of content or multiple drives with content. You can rescan each time you install new content to have it show up in the DB. However, if your content files are large it’s recommended that you; switch to view the content as list or tree, browse to the new file location, and right-click on the new folder and then select “Create Category from Folder”. This allows you to add content without a full rescan of the data. In our next release the rescan will be optimized to work much faster.
Data that is scanned or created as a category from a folder will be displayed in the "Un-Categorized" folder. This can then be quickly 'dragged-and-dropped' into the main category area of the Content Tab whenever you choose.
The process of categorizing data from the "Un-Categorized" section is not difficult. In the Content Tab advanced options menu, simply select "View Categories As List". This will allow you to select any folder and then you can drag the folder (along with its subfolders and contents) to any category to organize the data as you desire. Content can also be copied (using Ctrl) to be located in multiple locations.
If you want to go back to using the file structure from your hard drive, it’s very simple to use the Content Tab Options to select either “View Folders As List or View Folders as Tree”. This moves you out of the DB and back to the hard drive file structure.
Future Enhancements already started:
Plans for the Content Manager involve including special Content Manager 'mapping files' with each product that will automatically categorize newly installed content into a default category hierarchy. You will still be able to move or copy your data into other categories however you like after installation.
The content organizer looks interesting...will definitely reduce my reliance on "Finder" as I never really organized things as I installed them.

I'm looking for 2 renders. The first one of what you would expect out of a "hollywood pretty boy". It's for my company Hollywood Championship Wrestling & I'd love to see a guy with blonde hair, movie-star'esk good looks and ultimately someone you would think of being a "heart throb" actor instead of a menacing wrestler. He's going to play an ultra heel roll where the "Studio Execs" want him to be a superstar & have hired staff (bodyguards) to ensure that he never looses.
All in all, I'm looking for:
+ Early 20's
+ Pretty boy Looks ("Heart throb")
+ ****y Smile/smirk on his face (Thinks he's the... well you know)
+ Blonde Hair?
Second, His bodyguard. A menacing figure (much like that new guy in the WWE for Chavo). In a black suit and tie. A very pissed off look on his face & quite possibly a Tito-Ortiz'esk mini mow-hak?
Thank you!!

Eisen-verse, I managed this for the bodyguard. I used a little creative freedom, use it if you want to. That was the best I could get for the mohawk (I don't have the blonde colour for the hair I used).

Mutant, a big guy think 6'11ish, with a undertaker/kane kind of intensity about him.
was scarred in a toxic waste accident, Has a big facial disfigurement....kinda miss-coloured, think green/purple on his right side, upper body top green/purple & long black hair.
Thanks to any1 that can help

Speaking purely as a viewer, Nightshade, I don't have any major complaints about those renders of yours given the limitations you cited. The two women look pretty good to me. Especially the second one in purple. I could see her as a girl-next-door midcarder in AAA or SHIMMER without a moment's hesitation.
The male render is the only one I might have issues with. The face seems a little dull. Like he's more woodcut than real person and the body seems a tad out of proportion. But those could just be aesthetic perceptions like not getting the character intention or angle of the pose on my part than serious issues to worry about.
Nightshadeex
04-20-2008, 11:25 AM
Thanks Cappy. I was having difficulty figuring out the morphs on the guy to give him some character. The Michael 3 model that they provide you with is fairly limited. I had to use some girl hair and try to transform it onto him. Hahaha.
Victoria, on the other hand, is loaded with morphs.
I've been mulling over if I want to purchase stuff for doing more renders, but I just haven't figured out if I would actually use it.
Trell
04-20-2008, 12:04 PM
The Michael 3 model that they provide you with is fairly limited.
The reason he is so limited is because they want you to buy the M3 Face and Body morphs off there website, then once you do you can make different races and add more muscle and stuff like that. also another person to check out and get the morphs for is David, in my opinion he is way better than Michael, the only problem with him is there is not a lot of cool clothes out.

Yeah, I hear ya Trell. They're good at providing just a taste of the possibilities and I've always wanted to be helpful in this thread, I just don't know if the benefits outweigh the costs. I like the software, but it took me a lot of tinkering to figure out how to do anything. I'm afraid I'll buy some stuff and then lose interest or get frustrated.
What do you like better about David as opposed to Michael?
Trell
04-20-2008, 03:12 PM
just the morphes overall, he has so many more possabilities and his morphes are more realistic, it is really easy to make a muscular man and a fat man(no offense to anyone) with messing with his morphes. Michael is harder in my opinion on making him heavy.
Been playing with the software, and I bought some stuff (with the dollar like it is it was practically free). I can get the model in (Michael) I can give him the poses. I can but some hair on him. I can put a beard on him. I can change his eye positions. I just can't morph the face or body, despite having bought the things I (think I) need. Think I'm missing something... something simple and small that I've overlooked...

Nope, .png's contain more detail than .jpg files due to the latter being compressed to sacrifice quality for load time.
Apart from that nice work all. When I see some of the stuff available for M3, I kinda wish I didn't hate the character so much. I'll stick with M2, despite half the stuff being obsolete for him now.

Looks pretty good Fleisch. It might just be my eyes, but the tattoo looks a little blurry around the edges. If you've been reshaping it on the texture via photoshop (or something similar) sometimes it really helps just to click the sharpen filter after adjusting the size. Either that or have a look for a touch-up brush style tool, there's usually a sharpen tool with those.
Trell, I like the latest stuff. I really like the second one especially. I've been trying to create a decent shaved head texture by altering the one I usually use for most of my renders.
Thanks guys, I'll keep that in mind. I rendered head shots for both of these on the c-verse background, I just didn't post them. If I don't do that in the future I'll save them as .png's though, thanks for the heads up
You should always (well I do) export a render in .png format, that way you can do any postwork on it and save without losing the quality. With .jpgs, they compress everytime you save other them and at least with a .png original, you can always convert a .jpg version later on if you want anyway.

For the guys that do mask work, I have a couple questions.
For each mask you do, do you make your own textures and apply them to a template? Is the mask object something available on one of the website stores, or a freebie? Are the masks difficult to work with?
Thank ya kindly.

Any masked renders I've made have been mainly using the mask that comes with the Xena wrestling set. It comes with one default texture, so basically I've created new textures from scratch. Apart from that, you can also create your own trans maps easily (basically the portions of the mask that are transparent, for eye holes, mouth, etc) for further variation. Freebie wise, there are a few mask props for download over at renderosity, ranging in quality and how flexible they are. You can always slap a different texture on them and if you really get stuck, things can be photoshopped to an extent.
For instance, the mask in the second render below is the same as the one used in the first (it's also a freebie), I just made a couple of portions transparent, applied a reptile skin-like texture, applied a different colour and did a little minor post work to outline the teeth and eyes more.
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j178/sebsplex/Generic4.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j178/sebsplex/GiantAnaconda.jpg
A couple of other masked renders I made for the GDS-Verse, using the mask from the Xena set.
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j178/sebsplex/Azzurith.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j178/sebsplex/Cypher.jpg
They're not overly difficult to work with, but can be rather laborious (especially lining up the textures and trans maps). Just experiment really. If you really get stuck with trans maps, you can always just 'cheat' and render the image twice (once with the mask and once with it removed), take the two images into photoshop (or something else that will allow to work in layers), make the masked version to top layer and simply use the eraser tool to create different shaped openings.

Sebsplex, where did you get the Xena wrestling set from and is it compatible with the Michael 3.0 model? I've been looking for it everywhere but can't find it so would be really greatful if you could point me in the right direction.
The Xena set came from the store at Poserpros, I got mine about a year ago, although I have had the direct link to it, it seems that it's no longer available there (http://poserpros.daz3d.com/store/viewitem.php?selitem=336&start=0&selcat=0&selsub=0). The set is designed for Michael 2, but I seem to remember Clarity slapping it onto M3 for a few renders, so like most things, it can be just about made to fit.

Hey Sebs, is that avatar pic you're using something you created? Is it a character in an alt verse, or just a particularly good random one?
Either way, it caught my eye. Nice.

That's because PoserPros has been closed and integrated over to the Artzone Portion of Daz. Some products have moved over to the artzone, while others have been discontinued. I'll take a quick look to see if it is there.

Blasphemy, you're really bumming me out, man. I spend an hour tweaking something until I can say "Wow. That's pretty good." then I come on here and see things like that and it makes my meagre efforts look like crap. :)
I'm enjoying figuring out the program, especially the behind-the-scenes, get-things-to-not-crash-my-Mac stuff. Got a few things I like now, but every day I'm improving them that little bit more, so no need to do any posting yet.

As with any render I do whether it be a landscape or for TEW I spend around 80% of my work time on lighting, I am a firm believer that lighting is the difference between a good render and a great render. The last 3 I posted I probably spent 10 mins setting up the figure and then 15-20 mins on the lighting. I dont use any default lighting sets any more and set up my own lighting now.

So it has. I haven't bought a great deal of Poser stuff lately and even less from PoserPros, I hadn't realised. Just looking around, I can't find the set either.

Lighting can make the world of difference and also allows you to create a style of your very own, despite essentially using the same pieces as everyone else. I still haven't managed to create a lighting set-up that I'm truly happy with.
My lighting is very basic at the moment. Given the amount of work I do in post using MS Paint, I try not to have too many shadows, but it's leaving me with a flat, slightly uninteresting lighting set-up. Still learning.

I start from scratch with every figure, different skin textures need different lighting in my eyes.

I've only started being truly happy with my lighting in the last week or so. The last 4 renders are the only ones i've posted using my new techniques and its only in the last week or so I can say i've been truly happy with my studio stuff, I thought it sucked before and I was destined to do landscapes for eternity lol

Definitely. My main problem has been that I've used Jepe's Darren texture for a lot of recent renders and whilst I have figured a good set-up for the headshots, the fullbody stuff has been more troublesome. Just threw this together quickly for the sake of this post, so ignore the camp pose and rubbish attire...
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j178/sebsplex/TEW%20Diary/TEW13b.png
This is getting there. There's still too much glare on the abs for my liking, but it's a completely different set-up to what I used on Dan Stone Jr on the other page, since that texture by default is far lighter. Postwork helps a lot, but I'd rather save myself having do too much tweaking in that if I can help it. I always use the touch up tools for glasses and eyes though to manually add flecks of light.

I really like that last render Blasphemywebleed. You definitely seem to have the soft-lighting thing going on, makes the realistic texture look more... well realistic. I'm the opposite and prefer to use harder, brighter lighting.
Having contributed a bit in the fullbody thread on the TEW08 sub-forum, I thought I'd pull my finger out and fully render a random member of the GDS-Verse... Nemesis Rex to be precise.

I think it's just the outline of the skullcap, it's marginally larger than the head. I think the tilting of the head is the reason why it's more noticable on one side. Knocking the scale of the cap down by a fraction should get rid of it.

Since JSilver seems to be busy doing other things. I'm not sure which but...
I currently need a few minis rendered for my diary. Those currently employed by HaLF are:
Yo Da Mask - Yoda in a Mexican minis mask. He's a hip-hop manager who currently isn't managing anyone. But Yoda... as a mask!
Lepp Wreckon - A surly old mini who looks like a battered leprachaun.
Brett Fontana - Road agent. Called the Hardassed Halfling.
The only thing about mini renders that I'd request is that they all have a goodly amount of CVerse background blue at the top of the images. Since they're all supposed to be minis.
Thanks in advance.

My character is a man of fortune, blessed with natural good looks and a great physique. His black hair cut is short, very short, more like a buzz cut than anything else. He sports black pants, with slight; purple, dark blue, and dark red bolts of mejestic flames coarsing up from the bottom of the souls.
And if you can, or if you want, add like a gold neckalce with a cross at the end of it. {Not really needed, but just a thought.}
Thats all I really want: the rest you can be creative. Also, if you can make an alternate one with him wearing an AJ Styles like hood, that would help out ALOT!
Thanks very much, and sorry if im a little picky. =(

I have a beard pack, the 'official' one for the Michael model I think. It has sliders, but they only effect the one side. The other side is 'dead', even when I render it.
I was pretty good at drawing beards with MS Paint, so I guess I can go back to that.

The first two, probably not unless anyone ends up cutting them (well the first one is effectively already in the game as Awesome K since it's the same mask). The second two more than likely, just not yet :p
Actually, I'll probably bust out another masked render or two sometime as I want to try out a couple of ideas in my head.

Young woman 18-20
white or very light blond hair down to at least mid-back, held behind her ears by a hairband of some kind (one that runs over the top of her head)
cheer leader style outfit and smile.
thanks in advance
Well I'm a day later than I said I would be...got wrapped up in GTA4 on my day off. I had trouble with the hair texture on this one and ended up with darker sandy blonde. I can give it another try (lighten the base texture in photoshop and do some more material manipulation).

well I know I just got a wonderful render done by VBigB, but I hope someone is willing to take the time to do another one for me. (I eventually want a total of 4, but I'll only ask for one at a time so that our wonderful artists can work on their own projects.)
And this time I can provide a bit more detail.
Young lady 18-20
Hair a light brown and in as long a pony tail as you have (if it reaches her waist that's fine, if it only makes it just past her shoulders that's ok.)
If possible her ponytail should be tied up with a purple bow of some kind.
The outfit should be shorts and a halter-top/sports bra, with the top being purple. And she should be wearing am open leather jacket over the top.
Basically she's a bit of a tomboy, but understands that she's female and refuses to hide it. The face should be smiling, but a the same time show a level of humor and playfulness.
if it makes it easier to picture her face, I have figured out where she'd fit on the 2008 personality matrix.
Humble - Egotistical - about one notch toward humble from the middle.
Generous - Selfish - middling generousity. She's supposed to be a nice lady
Compassionate - Ruthless - rather compassionate
Optimistic - Pessimistic - maxed optimistic. This girl is always happy.
Naive - Manipulative - just a notch to the manipulative side, she loves to flirt and tease people.
Dependable - Flaky - surprisingly dependable. She's playful, but never fails to keep her promises.
Social - Antisocial - as social as possible.
Loyal - Mercenary - very loyal
Timid - Bold - they don't make them bolder. This girl is happy to get in the face of anyone who upsets her or her friends.
Hesitant - Driven - she's slightly driven, but it doesn't define her.
This might be too much information, but I hope there is someone out there who can turn this into a great render. :)

Think a cross between him and the tattoo persona of Tyson Tomko. I'm looking for the same evil kind of look on his face but with a tattoo on his face (much like how Mike Tyson has... Not overly taking over his entire face but enough to give him an exotic look).
If someone could work on this I would be greatly appreciative! Thank you!!

I have the same problem ... the best way to get around it (at least, the way I do it) is to select the beard's "head" properties, write down the slider names. Go to the figure's "head" settings, look for the sliders of the same name, write down the values beside them. Then go back to the beard's "head" properties, and put in the values that match the figure ... the beard usually pops right into place ...

A man roughly around 22 -23 in age. Again, a great physique, mildly muscled, and good looking. He has CM Punk style facail hair just a little bit less visual, and jet-black hair that reaches the middle of his neck.
He sports some black, baggy jeans, with a link-style chain coming out of one of the front pockets and twisting around to one of his back pockets.

general back ground, he was a rich soap opera writer, lived the fast life, hit bottom and is now working his way up the recovery ladder as the head booker of BSC. I currently use the portrait of alan gray from the general data base for him.
If some one knows of a better pic that's already been done, hey just point me in the right direction. If not and some one has a good idea for him, i would love a personalized portrait of Skid for my game.
oh and dse81 so that's what's been slowing down your NWA diary posts. nice work man.

Good work dse81. Are these free for anyone to use? I want to use the female with pink hair you made (for my own game - not a mod).
Anyway, with that here's another render, I've been experimenting with coloured tattoos.
