Hey, just got Daz Studio and completed a beginners tutorial I found. Now I'm interested in making some full body pics of Cornellverse Workers.

I noticed in Clarity's PWA diary (Plug: http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19442) that he made a full body Adam Matravers. I was just wondering if that was done by using the Adam Matravers pic from the cornellverse picture pack or if you made it from scratch.

*Cue technical information*

The picture of Adam Matravers (and Jamie Anderson) were made in Poser, so i dont know if it will work in Daz. I have tried with not much luck.

There are 2 ways to go about adding a wrestlers face to a render in Poser. The first was to go into the face room and use the cornellverse picture for the frontal view and another picture with the same sort of features for the side view.

This gives you a 3D version of the worker.

However the problem likes with the picture resolution. As long as you keep the picture small like the one above, it all looks fine.

However if you increase the size of the picture like this one of Steve Flash

You can see in the face that it lacks resolution.

The other way to add pictures is by taking a facial map from Poser (and this might work for Daz) and paste the cornellverse picture over it. It will take a bit of work to match facial features but there is more room for improving the picture.

Thats Steve Flash there. If you spent the time, cleaning it up and i think you could have a pretty cool version there.

But if you dont spent the time to clean it up you will get something that looks like that. Puerto Rican Power i think that was.

But yeah. Thats how i did it.

Since making those i have switched to Daz and been thinking about making 3D versions for promotions.

Hmm, I think I'm a long way off doing any of that. I struggled just messing around with David and Michael. But I think part of that was because some of the downloads from Daz Studio, I didn't install properly.

I'd be interested in 3D models of the workers. I think all Dynasty writers that make banners might be too.

I have another request. This time it's a guy. His name's Walter Martin and here's his bio (which probably needs to be edited to fit the dang box):

Walter "Wal Mart" Martin has emerged as perhaps the most gifted graduate of Eric Tyler's House of Tradition wrestling school. Able to work any style nearly to perfection, his only shortcoming is his utter lack of charisma and the uncanny ability to make microphones wilt by his mere presence. Though obviously a superstar between the ropes, his weaknesses make him a pariah to entertainment oriented promotions.

He's 6'2, 245 lbs but kinda spindly in build. He debuts in 2011 at age 21 and I figure he looks kinda cool (he has B for Looks) so no Bob Casey types. :p He's created as a sort of high-end Lance Storm skill wise ('Very High' Dependable All Rounder with F- for Mic and Charisma (3.6%) and F for Acting (10.9%)) so that might be a good place to start. Honestly, whatever you guys come up with would be fine. :)

I always feel guilty as all get out whenever I have to make a request, even more so this time, since I've already had one request filled way back at the front of this thread, but I've really found myself in need of two hopefully simple renders, if anyone has the time to spare.

The first is the owner of my promotion, and also C.H. Threepwood's dear old daddy. Should be about 45, a business type, kind of a jerk, and of course look enough like the Threepster that he could believably be his old man.

From previous posts I think I remember you saying you just photoshop masks onto existing pictures, do you create the entire mask in Photshop, or do you put a doctored version of an existing mask on top of an existing render? If the latter, where do you get your masks from?

My new dynasty will probably require a few masked guys, so I just tried to do it myself using a real front-on photo of a mask, and it failed horribly ¬_¬ I suck at graphics, but I have a feeling that had little to do with the abysmal failiure this time :p

I just find photos of masks on the internet and stick them on top of an original Cornellverse render, with a little tweaking obviously. I've got DAZ installed but have never really looked into how to use it, so I've no skills in that department. Each of the masked ones I've done were simply the original picture for that wrestler with a mask found on the internet layered on top. Some do need a bit of fiddling with colours, cutting etc. And a lot of the time you have to find a mask that will fit the picture well enough - I've tried a few where the mask just looked badly wrong. Which is probably the issue you ran into.

For Bloodstone, for example, I tried this one first

but didn't really like the way it turned out, so went for this mask instead and cut his ears so they didn't stick out

the other versions were just re-coloured. But in both of these pictures its just the original render underneath. I don't even have Photoshop - just use a program called Photo Impression which seems to do the job well enough.

I use the same premise for hair if I want an alternate render - bit of cutting and pasting from another render. But again you just have to make sure that you choose something that fits the picture - not every mask or hairstyle will fit every picture. A few other examples from earlier in the thread or other threads.

Well I've got to say it's a good modern update for Flash, the hair is still quite long but it's got more modern styling.

I think with that new haircut alone Steve Flash's looks rating should go up a full grade from a C to a B..think of the increased female fanbase he would attract with that new haircut, they would no longer be turned off by his ridiculously out-dated 1980's mulllet.

Slightly less successful, for a variety of reasons. The main one being I suck. But the mask was way more complicated, and to be fair the only major problem* with it is the nose.

Marcel is definately right. You have to find the right person for the mask (and vice versa). I didn't bother :p I'm just screwing around at the moment.

(* except the background, which was erased when he had a haircut, and cheaply re-added with a clone tool because I couldn't be arsed to do it properly ¬_¬)

Yeah, I think Ash is a bit scrawny for that mask. When I used the LA Park mask on Plague to give him a slightly different look, I basically took out most of the mask and just left it more like face paint, which can often be easier to put on the 2D pics and ends up looking better.

Here's an example of Ash with much of the mask taken away and with his hair leaving in place. Changed hair colour too to make more of an alter-ego type if anyone wants to use it. I did copy and repaste the hair on top of the mask to get that effect, in case you were wondering.

Yeah, I've found it's generally best to give the artists full freedom with only basic details (i.e. female, Hispanic, etc) to work with. But basically saying, "They have to look like these people" is probably ill-advised.

His usual in ring garb consists of custom baggy ring shorts (a lot like the ones worn by MMA fighters, only a little longer with Evan’s custom green "VEH" logo down the sides) he usually forgoes elbow pads, but does wear heavy padding around his knees.. almost hiding his legs completely when added to his tall glossy black wrestling boots (the initials VEH etched into the side in green ala Ric Flair's boots) His hands and wrists are always heavily wrapped with black ring tape, a message of some sort sometimes scrawled on the tops of his hands and wrists in white marker.

I have a request.. my ewrestling character, I want to add him to my TEW game.

Well I gave this a go based on the description. I won't be able to attempt the full body, since I'm yet to acquire the pack that has elbow pads, boots, etc. I added a few random visible tattoos and some minor scarring. You didn't specify on the beard too much, so not sure if you just wanted a chinstrap or something a bit fuller or thinner, etc. I have saved this for the time being, so I can attempt some alterations if needs be.

Ok time to speak up i think seeing as im probably the cause of this.

This isn't a user character request thread.. Its where people who make pictures for TEW "used" to come and put pictures they had made for TEW on the off chance that they could be used and to help others using the software.

But since i joked about people requesting user characters this thread has been flooded with requests. I mean there about over 20 on that previous post that havent been done and someone requested 20 or so in one post that he wanted to use in his e-fed (which took the piss just a little)

And we have about 5 people that make pictures (im excluding Marcel Fromage, but thats only because he is amending pictures instead of making them from scratch. They do look cool though :) ). Thats me, taker666, Trell, Sepsplex & J Silver.

Trell works 3 jobs, taker has a life as well and im working on another project at the moment, and none of us want to spend everyday making pictures of people. It would get boring that way fast.

So people need to ease up on requests.. Ask if we can do one for you, then if one of us has the time. Give us the details..

Which leads me onto point #2.. The details..

I think its fair to say that the 5 of us can consider ourselves digital artists. And as artists we need some creative freedoms.

Im not picking on him in particular, its just the first i found on the list. This guy has specified practically everything about his guy including the roundness of his head, and lines around his boots,leaving nothing for us to be creative about. I look at that and go "yup. no kneepads, no elbowpads and no goggles. Im not touching that one"

That one is a lot better. There is a vague idea of what he wants the guy to look like but we have a lot more creative control. And the only thing we need to check if we have is blond spikey hair.

And since most parts cost US money, its hardly likely that we will buy them just for you. Unless we start charging for pictures.

How I create models:

It all starts off with a figure loaded into Daz (1:16pm)

From that, i load in the body morphs and tweek it until chest/face look right. Depending on what sort of picture it is, i will spend more time on the facial details.

This model is just having muscles added.

Once hair was decided i was time to put a skin tone on our guy. (1:40pm)

I then do some final tweeking, like eye colours, what sort of textures the model has and pose. (1:55pm)

20 minutes later and still only 7% due to the hair used. So i estimate that i took about 45 minutes in total to render (went to work so im not exact) making the time about 2:45pm when it finally finished.

So thats 90 minutes roughly from when i started. But theres normally something that needs changing or the lighting is bad and i would have to re-render.

Thankfully this time there isn't and i can leave it as it is.. An Ivan Draco'ish type person.

Now the pictures im doing for the Re-Imagined project are all having each individual facial morph's played with until i find the perfect look. Each of those faces can take a couple of hours each, thats before doing any body work, or picking hair and clothing.

I've asked about Daz before, and I don't even want to get into that :S

I'm using Poser 6, although you can get Poser 7 now for just over £100 (about $190?). Then there's a few add-ons. I'd recommend getting the Michael 2 bundle from DAZ since that gives you plenty off stuff to get started, then head to renderosity and download anything you want from the free section. Other than that, it's just paying out for any other bits you want. Don't go OTT and buy loads off stuff straight off. So it doesn't seem a complete waste of money, I usually just save money elsewhere e.g. "this week I'll have about 3 pints less in the pub" and that saved money usually equates to something new for poser. The default stuff that poser does come with however isn't that great, so you really need to look to spend another few quid on top if you want to make it worthwhile buying poser.

How hard is it? Initially it seems really tricky, but I got to grips with the basics of it in about 2-3 days (a couple of hours a day practice). The instruction book isn't much help, you really just need to understand the step by step process of making a figure, which can be figured out with practice. Failing that, you can always just post here and I'm sure me, Clarity and others will be able to give some advice.

Poser is trickier than DAZ, but if you can sit through some initial frustration then you'll find it's well worth perservering with.

Well firstly it helps if you're using hair specifically designed for a certain character as upon double clicking the hair in the side menu, it should automatically "latch" on.

If you're trying to use a style not specifically for a certain character, then just select it and position it on the model manually using the x,y and ztran sliders in the parameters menu on the right. It also helps to rotate the camera so you can see that you've fitted the hair properly. If it's too small or too large, simply use the scale sliders until it appears to fit.

Some hair models also have options tucked away in the "pose" subsection to make it conform to different characters, so check that as well.

I remember you saying you use Poser so I believe I can help here. Seems like you're making the same mistake I used to. There's actually a very easy way to conform them so long as they're made for the character you're using them on. So long as whatever you need to conform to your figure is also a figure and not a figures prop then all you have to do is select it and choose Figure > Conform To... and then choose what you want to conform it to. This will work for hair, clothing and other things so long as, like I said, they're their own figure.

If the figures not meant for the model you're using it on then you can choose to set its parent so that it moves with the model when you pose it anyways.

Also, I'm curious about what rendering and export settings you're using.

Ugh, of course. I think I remember that now from the Poser 4 demo I had a couple of years ago. I knew about setting the parent for props, but thanks, that's much easier than fiddling with the sliders.

Render settings in poser 6 are kinda strange. There's just a tab for firefly and I have the slider one marker from the halfway point for most final renders and check a box for anti-alias. Exportwise... 100% quality to jpg.

Ah, much easier. A quick hair trim, some conforming, shorts change and elbow pads later...

I always feel guilty as all get out whenever I have to make a request, even more so this time, since I've already had one request filled way back at the front of this thread, but I've really found myself in need of two hopefully simple renders, if anyone has the time to spare.

The first is the owner of my promotion, and also C.H. Threepwood's dear old daddy. Should be about 45, a business type, kind of a jerk, and of course look enough like the Threepster that he could believably be his old man.

Im just gonna come right out and say no. Im not.. With each of those taking easily 2 hours and possibly double that to get right, thats easily 20-40 hours of rendering before it gets posted and critiqued.

And right now between the 3 jobs i work, a feisty flu that has me trying to cough out a lung and trying to have a social life, its hard to justify spending that time of people who already have tons of pictures on google..

Definitely! I've been a long-time lurker of this topic, and so it seems like a good time to say I think the bunch of you have done a tremendous job and you've made some people very happy. Then as always there are the few who try and spoil it. They're inconsiderate and quite rude. I think given the post you made recently that requesting even one pic is a bit demanding. This should be a bit of fun for you, but people seem intent on making using up all your free time.

I used to do a webcomic, then photoshop morphs, then some fiction, if you include MMOs at the time, all my free time was being used up and I quickly got sick of it. So please don't disheartened, and perhaps think of having a Cornellverse only policy and restrict it to one request per person if even that :)

Ok time to speak up i think seeing as im probably the cause of this.

This isn't a user character request thread.. Its where people who make pictures for TEW "used" to come and put pictures they had made for TEW on the off chance that they could be used and to help others using the software.

But since i joked about people requesting user characters this thread has been flooded with requests. I mean there about over 20 on that previous post that havent been done and someone requested 20 or so in one post that he wanted to use in his e-fed (which took the piss just a little)

And we have about 5 people that make pictures (im excluding Marcel Fromage, but thats only because he is amending pictures instead of making them from scratch. They do look cool though ). Thats me, taker666, Trell, Sepsplex & J Silver.

Trell works 3 jobs, taker has a life as well and im working on another project at the moment, and none of us want to spend everyday making pictures of people. It would get boring that way fast.

So people need to ease up on requests.. Ask if we can do one for you, then if one of us has the time. Give us the details..

Which leads me onto point #2.. The details..

I think its fair to say that the 5 of us can consider ourselves digital artists. And as artists we need some creative freedoms.

That one is a lot better. There is a vague idea of what he wants the guy to look like but we have a lot more creative control. And the only thing we need to check if we have is blond spikey hair.

And since most parts cost US money, its hardly likely that we will buy them just for you. Unless we start charging for pictures.

Thanks Trell. This is the method I've been using.

First, I make a copy of the body texture I want to use, then save it as a psp file so I can use multiple layers in paint shop pro. Then it's a case of finding a tattoo I want to use, which is tricky since most are too intricate to cut, I need to find them on a white of very light grey background. Then it's a case of making the tattoo a new layer, resize and position it, then alter the layer opacity to the "darken" preset which eliminates the white/grey surrounding while keeping the tattoo's original colours. After that, I then save the texture as a jpg in a "custom" folder I've created in the poser texture folder, apply the texture in poser and render it. I keep Paint Shop Pro open while I render, since normally I have to reposition the tattoo with the psp file version of the texture a few times.

Well i finally managed to pull this one together, Ping.

I have a request.. my ewrestling character, I want to add him to my TEW game.


Long shaggy dark brown, almost black hair with a full beard, his upper body has a few tattoos across the chest, down the arms.. most significant is the world “Violent” arched across his belly ala CM Punk. His shoulders, back and chest show signs of light scaring from years of dangerous in ring action. Very well build, obviously takes care of himself. Well defined upper body, not to big, think Brad Pitt in the movie Fight Club. I always imagined him as a young, more handsome, Bruiser Brody.

His usual in ring garb consists of custom baggy ring shorts (a lot like the ones worn by MMA fighters, only a little longer with Evan’s custom green "VEH" logo down the sides) he usually forgoes elbow pads, but does wear heavy padding around his knees.. almost hiding his legs completely when added to his tall glossy black wrestling boots (the initials VEH etched into the side in green ala Ric Flair's boots) His hands and wrists are always heavily wrapped with black ring tape, a message of some sort sometimes scrawled on the tops of his hands and wrists in white marker.

As for the tats on the chest and arms.. how to describe it.. sort of solid sleeves? Connected with the same solid effect across the chest.. sort of a tall order, but that's how I've always thought of it. Again, awesome work man, thanks for this so much. If you need any more info, drop me another line.


I think this will be about the best I can do and I aready spent way too much time experimenting & such. I didn't have knee pads or proper shorts (I ended up making the ones in the pick with a transparency map and some pants).

The scars actually look better on the 1500x3000 resolution render I did, but after reducing the size to post they don't look as good (can't see some of the definition from the bump map I made for them).

The chest and arm tattoos I did in post work. I actually offset them slightly but again after reducing the size it almost looks like I took one tattoo and slapped it right across his arms and chest (I may give onemore attempt at that). I orriginally tried to do the tats on the texture like the belly tat but I was having trouble with the arm seam.

Anyway I hope this is at least somewhat acceptable.

It would take longer than monthly. But if you really were interested it might be easier to do it Machina style.

Like Red Vs Blue does. You use the game (in this case SvR) to play out with someone a script and record it onto your pc, with some clever editing, you could possibly get a show out of it

I do both 2D and 3D and have had that idea before. As awesome as it would be it would also be a nightmare to actually do. Even with some ingenious idea doing something like a 2 hour show on a monthly basis would be a stretch. Like Clarity said using something like SvR would probably make it possible though.

Just to give you an idea. I've played around with animation in both Daz, Carrara and Mimic Pro. If your using high polygon models like the ones used in the still images here it will take forever. Even after setting up the animation and reducing the animation quality to use the video card (open GL) an animation for just a couple min at 30fps can take upwards of 10 hours just for the machine to render.

To do high resolution (in this case I'm meaning lots of polygons) animation at a resonalbe rate of time means you need multiple computers and software that supports node rendering.

Edit Of course using a game engine such as what's done in red vs blue employs different concepts and techniques.

Also keep in mind that RVB is made by a team of people so for one person to do 24 min would take quite some time.
