And thats it for me tonight, if you guys don't get it, then so be it, lol.
The first one looks fake, the rest mostly look real. No one else sees the difference between these? I still think the first one was kayfabe. Not sure about the Tracy Smothers one, though, that could be real or fake, especially given how there was no muzzle and Smothers managed to not get eaten.
Anyway, who is Lee Wong from Hong Kong? Did I miss something somewhere?

You guys realize that those vids were taped in the 50's-60's, right? If Victor was just a guy in a bear suit (instead of a real 400+ pound bear), the people in the front row would've been able to tell, because costuming just wasn't that good in that time period. Also, you'll note that Dick Beyer (Destroyer/Doctor X) mentions that you have to "keep that bear busy, dive into him" because the bear just thinks it's just play and could easily get distracted by the audience and go check things out or head back to it's cage instead of wrestling. Victor also sits down to drink his coke in the ring, just like Ted in that photo with his rootbeer on that site DJ Chris linked (although I think the story about the girlfriend is a work to put over Ted and give reason to the non-finish to the match with Frankie Cain). Oh, and this same bear is mentioned in Roddy Piper's book. ;) Seriously guys, don't you trust my judgement at all?
It's kinda funny, in the first vid (Destroyer vs. Victor) Beyer is a face (hence the legal forearm/Tuffy Truesdale going after him with the chain leading to Destroyer being "robbed" via DQ) while in the second (Doc X vs. Victor) he's working heel (and thus illegally strikes the bear with a closed fist and gives Victor the win via DQ).
Edit: Oh, and love those vids DJ Chris!
"Caesar what're you doing with your nose back there? We told you to say no to crack!"

This is fabulous. Kayfabe is alive, I guess. :)
In all cases, those are actual bears. I don't expect you to believe me - or anyone else, but it's a fact. Wrestling bears were a part of the kayfabe presentation. Just like Moolah and her ladies and Jack Britton and his midgets.
For a long time, that was the entire schtick of Dave McKigney; aka Gene Dubois: 'The Canadian Wildman' and his wrestling bears.
And if Ted being in D.O.T.T. causes such disbelief - imagine what will happen when it is discovered Victor is in, too!
The funny thing: I bet you any money that someone will look at this and scoff. 'Wrestling Bears? What a joke! When's T-Zone coming out??' ;)

And thanks to Caninrok for pointing out the Apt Pupil storyline error. Fixed.

I, for one, LOVE Ted's inclusion in the D.O.T.T. series of data mods. Heh, one time in Wrestling Spirit I made Ted active and used him as my character simply because it was so different. Anyone can play as The Rock, but where else but D.O.T.T. are you going to get the chance to play a wrestling freakin' Bear???
... Victor is in D.O.T.T. too?? Hehe. I was going to hire Ted for fun and jobber mauling (HELLO Dizzy Ed! Do I have a job for you! :D ), but thanks to that I now have an idea for regularly using him! Wonder how much I could draw with a Bear vs. Bear match?? ;)

Just wanted to say how much fun I'm having so far with Watts' Mid-South. Kudos to everyone who worked on this, because I could never get into a game in TEW like I could in EWR. But this mod has definately changed that. I'm so caught up in this game that I can see me playing it for years and years game time.
*I'm elevating Magnum TA thru a feud with Dick Murdoch over the Mid-South TV title which Magnum just won.Murdoch has just recently joined Devastation Inc. to get him involved with the JYD/Kamala feud. Murdoch isn't that happy about it, but they have already put on two B* matches, so screw 'em!
*JYD is currently warring against Devastation Inc. as well, particuarly against Kamala and Akbar. At first this feud was topping the cards, but once The Rat Pack started picking up steam, it was a given that they would be getting top billing. I'm gonna have to shake things up a bit, because they are only pulling about a C in match quality.
*Mr Wrestling II, Steve Williams and Ricky Steamboat (on loan from MACW) have had a great series of matches with The Rat Pack (mostly DiBiase).
*Adrian Street and Miss Linda are driving Watts crazy with their Genderbending gimmick. It looks like Watts may be stepping into the ring pretty soon to smack the makeup out of 'em.
I bet no one else that picked MSW has this match in the cards!
* Went Out and hired the good ol' Tulsa Tornado himself, Dennis Stamp! How can I resist?
* Also picked up the Fabulous Ones a few days back. They are going to start a string of matches with the Rat Pack members Mr. Olympia and Jim Duggan, while Williams and II go against DiBiase and Borne. I'm gonna throw a few 8-Man elimination matches in their to.
Other Happenings:
*At the end of the 1st month, Hogan, Ventura, and Steamboat have been given PPA contracts by the WWF, but Backlund is still warring against the Samoans. Thank god I got Steamboat for 3 shows thru a talent trade with MACW before he went to the WWF!
**********************
Also, I have one quick question to someone that has read this crazy rant, it's about feuds in TEW. Am I right in assuming that you just end the feud after the blowoff match manually for a Unchained Storyline? There isn't a end feud Agent note right?

No end note, but I believe you can evolve it into another storyline if you so wish to. Also, you don't want to end any feuds too soon, not sure how the unchained works in this respect though, but I believe it could have some bad momentum things happen if you chop it down too quickly.
I enjoyed reading your post... All of it! Thanks for sharing:-)

1. Don't get me wrong, I have no "problem" with the wrestling bears. It was just a "WTF" moment for me. The wrestling bears have no impact on my promotion, heh.
2. You can't evolve unchained storylines, though I wish you could.

So I assume that that means that I just end it after the big blowoff?
I also assume that it's the same 14 point system as EWR? That is, 14 promos and matches until there is a favorable outcome?

Unchained mean just that, anything goes.. have them in a segment together and it furthers the fued, it can go as long or short a duration as you want.. have as many promos, angles, or matches as you want.. end it any time you wish.
The beauty of an unchained feud.

Tell tell signs, like the grades start to drop, or max out. Like you keep it going for a while and it steadily improves from c to c+ then around B+ it might come to a standstill, and not improve... Probably that time would be best.
Interesting that you point out the 14 point system... Might be something for you to look into..
I believe you will get a message when going to end it if the outcome might be bad. I don't know because I haven't used any unchained, or at least haven't ended any yet. I remember their being a message in the 05 version though.

Finishing locations files, and fixing problems was first on the list (such as storyline problems, etc.). There has been in the past and I'm sure will be again, talk of adding them into it. Meanwhile, because of this new feature, it will allow one to do it themselves, alla using other data, however, the game won't be balanced this way, unless you modify it yourself as well (probably why you asked anyways).
I'm hoping that they will eventually have them all in... That list (on the new worker thread for DOTT) is pretty much what was being worked on in the first place, unless someone does a satisfactory job before hand, I'm sure they (as in the guys who gave you the mod) will get around to it.
The problem is they already had the names, and although importing several from other database's will surely speed it up, they will still have to change stats, overness, information on relatives, and protege's. Anything less would not be DOTT:-) (See how I sneak that in there).
Bassically what I'm saying, is don't hold your breath for it, but I'm 80% sure it is in the future plans.

I would only use a new worker file made by DOTT. Those people in the other thread will not produce anything to the level of DOTT and the ratings will not be correct unless you guys do the file yourselves.

I noticed, unless I completely overlooked him, that the Mongolian Stomper seems to be missing from the Workers area. (real name = Archie Gouldie; held a few titles in the AWA, NWA, SECW).

Anyone else having trouble with MACW? My popularity in the Mid-Atlantic is C+, so you'd expect anything at B- or above to be a success, right? Wrong! I lose popularity there whenever I run a show rated under B (Mr. Ryland says it's supposed to be like that, where you need two grades higher to gain popularity), and I can't manage an average higher than C+. I have only gotten two shows total above B-, out of almost three dozen, and most of the time I get C or C+. The only time I get the better ratings is when I completely ignore my lower card and put only main eventers on the card, which of course isn't smart booking.
So is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?

Changes/Corrections/Additions: Raised MACW to start as Cult, upping their Southeast Popularity to 55% ** AWA raised to Cult, upping their Southwest popularity to 55% ** Removed a lot of Personal checks in workers, leaving only those confirmed cases; ala Buzz Sawyer (Drugs), Superstar Graham (Steroids), etc ** Dolfanar's Mid Atlantic era-specific venues added ** Added several worker relationships centering on Black Angus Campbell ** Corrected/Tweaked various workers ** Completed all Gimmicks ** Added Scottish Championship Wrestling as New Promotion ** WCCW Stables corrected: Added Bill Irwin to Devastation Incorporated, Removed Jim Garvin & Sunshine from the Freebird Nation, and Added Magic Dragon to H&H Limited ** Added/tweaked/corrected starting momentum to the following promotions: AWA, SWCW ** Added Remianen's fantastic Injury File (with permission)
Angles Added: Video: Worker Hypes Self ** Video: Worker Accepts Challenge ** Video: Worker Taunts Injury ** Video: Worker Puts out Bounty

Loving this as always D. Boon. Playing as CWA. I've got Austin Idol feuding with Lawler for the AWA Southern heavyweight title and so far the feud is going strong .
I've got Bobby Eaton challenging Koko B. Ware for the Mid America Heavyweight , which is slowly taking off.
Southern Tag team Champions(Stan Lane , Steve Kiern ) are in a feud with The NewYork Assassins(managed by Jimmy Hart) and Ricky Morton/Robert Gibson( managed by Jim Cornette) - Hart and the Assassins are wreaking havoc on Lane/Kiern and Gibson/Morton. I hope to eventually have the Assassins take the titles and then the feud will continue between the two teams and become a battle of the managers.
Just signed Mountain Man Mike and Kaufman is his manager and has been issuing a $5,000 bodyslam challenge . Hopefully I can use this to give King Cobra a push.
My shows usually get an overall of C+ or D + . I keep getting that the matches are too intense but Jarret won't budge and let me change it so I'm going to stick with it.
I think I've found an error in the $5,000 bodyslam challenge storyline :
In Plot Point 4 : hero Saves the day . it says it must be a rescue angle with Kaufman(Catalyst) , Man Mountain Mike(Catalyst) , King Cobra(Catalyst) and Bobby Fulton(Victim) . I've looked through the rescue angles but haven't found one that matches yet.

Hmmmm... I may have fixed that one along the way and forgotten, but mine is showing:
4th Plot/3rd Show: 'Hero Saves the Day', Villain = Attacker, Hero = Calvary, and Loser #2 = Victim.
One that was broken on my end - as a word of warning for those of you about the run it: The 7th plot point in the cursed 'Turning of the Superfly, Part One' storyline was screwed up. If you want to fix it yourself before the update, go in and edit the 'Snuka destroys Bob' point so that Snuka is the Attacker and Albano the Catalyst.
Buddy Wayne should be added to this mod. Which one? Ken Wayne's dad - or the one played by Steve Finley?
If it is the former, I agree. He should. ;)

Hey D. Boon absolutely love this mod it's fantastic. The amount of work put in on this is remarkable. I'm entering year two as the AWA and I'm going for Vince's head on a pike. :)
History is turning out very different this go around. Manny Fernandez is the uber babyface mega over AWA World Champion, Jerry The King came into the fed a few years early (as did Stan Hansen) Bobby Eaton could join Curt Henning and Rick Martel as part of the new generation, also Fit Finlay and Steve Wright crossed the pond to come over to the AWA. Also our new head announcer is the one and only Gordon Solie. Add in the PPV contract and the new show on ESPN and Vince could be in trouble.
Well to report on one bug I hired Jushin Liger and he only had basic English as a language skill I do think he should be fluent in Japanese :)
Let me say again this is so much fun and well where else could you book King Curtis managing Buddy Rose. “The Playboy did come for guidence as I was having my morning bath in the River Ganges.”
Boy think about THAT pairing too long and you might hurt yourself.

Yeah, Ive been holding things up a bit. Mid-South took longer than expected (well Texas specifically which was a chore to research), and I've been playing Nurse for the wife these last couple days (She had a fever of 38.8, but luckily it's been back to normal for the last couple hours) so that slowed work down on the languages.

i havent read every page to see if any noticed this but i found a simple error to fix u have new wrestlers like yokozuna (which should be under Kokina maximus or maybe rodney anoi) set to debut in february of 83 but the game is set to start in april of 83 so they dont debut at all...
edit: also i looked him up and he debutes in 84 not 83

Thanks, rodzilla. That was meant to be Feb of '84 on Anoa'i.
And on the New Workers, I intentionally went with their kayfabe names more often than not. I happen to prefer it that way, as AI hirings end up looking better. But you can always change that. :)

I'm fairly certain there is no way to fix that for your Saved Game (apologies!).
On the name... The Great Kokina or Kokina Maximus could be used, but I feel that people might have an easier time recognizing the Yoko name. I could very well be wrong on that, though.
The first time I heard of him was when he put Greg Gagne out of wrestling as Maximus, so it doesn't matter either way to me.

You could [manually] copy Yokozuna from the New Workers into the regular Workers part of the main editor and then import him into your save game in February '84 [or before if you want]. That's what I did.

It could be one of many, actually - but your best bet is one of the 'Promo: Accepted Challenge, Contest' angles.

I don't have any specific bits here, but I do want to express thanks to the makers of this mod over the years. I was thoroughly impressed with mod since I played with it in TEW 2005. So, keep that up.
In the 'look at my story!' department, I tried a few months with the WWF in an attempt to recreate Hulkamania (well, rewrite it anyways). I had all the cards set... I had a change in storyline from Backlund/Samoans to Backland/Steamboat (with Backland going kooky mid-90s on everyone) and had Hogan slowly demolish everyone for the big push, and then in a silly tag match, I end up with Hogan gone for five months with long term amnesia! Just my luck... um, brother!
Oh well, Steamboat/Backlund is giving me cool match-ups. Anyways, just the fun of trying to re-do/rewrite history. Thanks, guys!

I don't know how important this is, but in the "I broke wahoo's leg" storyline there is an attack angle that requires a catalyst and a victim as opposed to attacker and victim. It was pretty rough trying to find one last night. Kept me up until 3 in the morning re-running a show.
Because of that I was late to work. I expect you to send a note to my employer. :D

To whom it may concern,
Please excuse justtxyank for being a little late today. He has been under extreme pressure with his other job (booking for an important territorial wrestling promotion), and just had to finish some things up before getting to bed last night. The result of this was he endedup with only a couple of hours of sleep, and slightly overslept getting to his secondary (less important) job.
Again, please excuse justtxyank, he is vitally important on his Main Job, and we don't want him being distracted with problems from his secondary (LESS IMPORTANT) job.

I'm absolutely loving this mod. Thanks for putting this together.
You may have already fixed this, but if not I wanted to call it to your attention: Linda McMahon can't speak a word of English. (Now I grant you, in real life she's terrible on the mike, so there is an element of realism...) She's set to be fluent in Japanese, so I'm guessing the wrong box was checked.

Fixed. It's supposed to be a Reveal angle: 'Authority Books Tag Match'

Fixed. Grrrr. :) Apologies on that, guys.
Here's a suggestion on the event this happens in other storylines, though I have added it myself for the next update: You can always go into the main editor, clone the proper angle and rearrange the roles to fit the messed up storyline. In the above situation, you could have cloned the intended 'Post Match: Submission not Released' angle and changed the Attacker role to Catalyst, saved it as a version2 (or whatever), then imported it into your save game.

Gameplay-wise, I've found it best to leave that unchecked (as well as for a bunch of other wrestlers). I can argue that 99% of the wrestling promoters/owners didn't give a crap about steroids back then - if they even knew what they were; thereby making that particular owner block tough to swallow for playing a database set for the era. But the real issue is that the steroid check is counter-productive to long-term play, which I believe D.O.T.T. inspires.
Each check increases death by varying degrees. As the 80s was one of excess, so many younger American wrestlers are drunken dope fiends in the data... except Ted and Victor - heh. Adding a steroid check to the mix hinders the data in several ways. It results in Jimmy Snuka dying within a year in 75% of the games played by people (when combined with drugs and/or drink checks), and those like Hogan not making it into the 90s because they fall apart.
To appease the realism buffs, I've assigned only those wrestlers that are documented as crashing in the 80s; Superstar Graham, Dynamite Kid, Pistol Pez Whatley, etc.

Alright, I see. The effects of steriod use and drink or drug problems should be decreased a bit in TEW in my opinion. I'm all for them causing various problems with the wrestler, them showing up late, rehab, etc. but the death part should be made a bit more of a rare occurance, and take longer to happen.

Maybe some kind of way to rate it... Like very hard user, Light user, etc... and have the effects less severe, in lesser severity cases... For example, Although everyone knows/thinks Vince does Steriods, he seems to be able to stay pretty stable. He can be really calm in interviews, and "things of this nature". So maybe something like Severe User, Moderate User, Light User, would make a bit more sense..
Adam did state that they were not intended to be used for every documented case. From what I gather, he meant in the same way DBG used them.... In case's where it's obvious, and effects their lives, check it. In case's where it's debatable, or the user obviously has it under check (as much as one could have it under check), then you probably shouldn't check the box.

This isn't a critique of the mod but more of a question. Why does Hogan get so low on stamina? I know he wasn't the greatest scientific wrestler or anything, but in the AWA matches with Bock that I've watched, he was able to go.

Sure, Hogan could go. But it was for 10-15 minutes. :)
I'll bump him up to 60-65, but I hesitate to go any higher than that.
I've watched those same Bock matches and it certainly appears to me that Hogan is gassed early on, which resulted in an overall sluggish bout. Heck, during the final one (I think it was), Hogan could barely get Bock up for the ref bump.
I love Bockwinkel and have a lot of respect for Hogan, but there is a reason those matches are not as highly regarded as they probably should have been. I attribute much of it to Hogan's lack of stamina.
Another five years down the line and he could work decent 30 minute matches, but at this time? Only if he was in a tag team situation and even then, 'decent' is subjective. The biggest one of note in America at the time was the Andre & Hogan vs. the Heenan Family bout. Despite the fact you've got Bockwinkel and Heenan in the ring, the match was terrible (imo).

The 3 Man Team (ala the Freebirds) was basically nothing more than a way for a stable to defend tag team titles. It added an element of drama, I guess: 'Who will be defending those titles tonight?'
That was the concept that the original Midnight Express, Inc (Dennis Condrey, Randy Rose, and Norvell Austin) copied; there was no other gimmick with that particular group.
But considering you cannot book them as such in TEW, it's a bit moot.
With that being said... it is going to be really hard to dub your Midnight Express group with a uniform gimmick. Pat Rose, for example, is your typical Opener back then; he doesn't have the skills for a great majority of the gimmicks.
The closest you'll get to blanketing the entire group is probably using the Old School gimmicks; face or heel, whichever you lean towards.

Sounds great! I just downloaded and started booking my first event.
The Crockett Cup is scheduled for the very first day of the scenario and I already set up an 8 man one night tournament for the title. However, the Crockett Cup title doesn't seem to be selectable when I go to choose it to be on the line for the final match.
Any ideas? I'm trying to give Ricky Steamboat the rub by having him lose a close match in the finals to Rowdy Roddy.
Edit: Wait is the Crockett Cup a bloody tag team title?
Crap.
Never mind!
I'm hereby instituting a new Tournament Title just because I don't want to book this show again.
Edit again: And Roddy Piper over Ricky Steamboat earns an A* in my first ever event. B- for the show. :)

No The Barbarian is Sione Vailahi who also wrestled as Konga the Barbarian, King Konga, Headshrinker Sionne, Tonga John, Super Assassin 1, Yokinoshima. He was one half of the Powers of Pain with The Warlord (Terry Szopinski) circa 1987, then he replaced Samu in the Headshrinkers in WWF circa 1994.
The Tonga Kid is Sam Fatu.
Sam Fatu is a professional wrestler best known under the name of The Tonga Kid. He was also known as Tama, as which he teamed with partner Haku as The Islanders, and as Samoan Savage, as which he teamed with his brother Solofa Fatu (Rikishi) as the The Samoan Swat Team (he was later replaced by Samula Anoai (Samu, this version of SST went on to be called The Headshrinkers in the WWF).
Sam Fatu would go on to work with Solofa Fatu (now known as Kishi) in his promotion Nu-Wrestling Evolution.
Another brother is Umaga (Eddie Fatu).

I just got my first A* match with this years version, David Von Erich vs Buddy Jack Roberts at the WCCW Independence Day Star Wars in July :) The Von Erich/Freebird feud is going very well in my game, Michael Hayes is with the WWF but I am not at war with them so he is still free to work with us. Terry Gordy is on his way out though after refusing a contract extension as he feels he is now too big for WCCW, I have made Jim Garvin a Freebird so there is somebody to take Gordy's spot when he leaves.
It is a good job the Von Erich/Freebird feud is going so well and getting me great show ratings as everything else in the company is pretty stale right now. My attempted push of Chris Adams is going nowhere
I am loving the new talent trade feature and it works really well with DOTT, WCCW has some good relationships with other companies and it really is fun to bring new guys in for a few matches, Mike Rotundo gave me three excellent matches when I got him on a 3 match loan, I plan on using him again for sure.

Tracking progress isn't very useful because you can only look at monthly progress, so take it with a grain of salt as stats don't raise that quickly. I hope yearly progress is implemented some day.

If Curt Hennig has the same stats in 1990 that he does in 1983, what's the use?

That's an interesting one, Brandon. I just checked, though; in a two month old game, I am seeing expected skill progression for AI-run workers.
As example, Greg Gagne has gone up 7.9% percent from his initial brawling stat, +4.2% Aerial, +2.9% Mat working, etc.
As a matter of fact, he has risen a grade in ten of his stats. In two months. :)
So I really don't know what else to say, beyond the fact that AI workers do progress in skills, popularity - just about everything in-game.

That one is actually meant to be as it is. It's basically a recreation of the Tony Atlas / Hulk Hogan showdown in the WWF, circa 1981. The angle starts with McMahon leading Atlas through the posing, which is why I made Mr. USA the support in that case.
It was a judgment call. :)

They do change, but they do so at a realistic pace. You seem to be expecting them to jump a few grades every 12 months - if that was the case then within a couple of years everybody would be sitting there with skills in the B grade range and you be complaining that it's unrealistic.
You can prove it yourself if you want; just go pick a young guy who is currently employed, use the editor to find out his actual skills, then go back in 12 months and check again.

'Interview: Singles Hype and Posing v2' is the bit where Hogan comes in and gets into an argument with Atlas, which results in the two set to start an improv match. In that particular angle, Atlas shifts to Catalyst and McMahon (the interviewer) Support.
To make it a tad more generic so that anyone could be used in the roles; i.e., chicks, if wanted, I removed the detail of Hogan's spiel in the angle commentary. As funny as it was. :)

i am playing as MACW. on every show it tells me that i need more angles and i should change my match intensity becuase they are not phyiscal enough?

If you go into "Product" at your "Promotion" screen you can look at and sometimes tweak your feds product. Where it says "Match Ratio" it will give you a percentage, I think MACW is at 70%, meaning the remaing 30% of your show should consist of angles.
I think only 3 or 4 storylines are enough to keep your audience happy. Hope that helped.
Anubis
02-27-2007, 02:25 AM
1. Take 100% and subtract your match ratio (MACW starts with 70%), then divide by 10. I think that is how many storylines are needed, unless you have 80% or above, in which case you don't need any. Example using MACW: 100 minus 70 equals 30; divided by 10 gives you 3. Oh, and you need only have that many storylines active, you don't have to advance them.
2. How many people would shoot me for admitted to using Warrior Rants frequently for Ric Flair while playing as MACW? I had him cut one on Dusty Rhodes, and on my next card, I'm having him cut one on Harley Race. :D

I also have two questions.
1. As MACW, how am I supposed to hire people like, oh, Tully Blanchard and Ole Anderson, in order to put on the Four Horsemen storylines? They have loyalty to their respective promotions, making it impossible to hire them away. Neither promotion is doing poorly.
2. Just curious, but why does Lars Anderson hate Jim Crockett Jr? Not saying that's incorrect, because I honestly have no way of knowing since Lars Anderson was way before my time (I was born in 1980). Just curious, since all the other Andersons (yes I know they're not actually related) pretty much love Jim Crockett Jr.

In the "two workers feud their way to cage match"
Step 9: Protag invites to ring- no face off- (both workers are catalysts.)
and
The Turning of Bundy:
Believe it or not, Step 5- Hype angle announcer (catalyst) and worker (subject)
More importantly, what are some tips to find the right angles easily? I've been filtering by Type and sometimes Filtering by Number of Participants- but I found that not to be guaranteed success.

Roddy Piper's gimmick, The Hot Rod, has a B- for the risk. Considering the WWF's product has no risque or cult, when I debuted him, his gimmick rating was an F-. Clearly that's not a very good idea, as he was a major star for the WWF, and his Hot Rod gimmick was huge.

In the "two workers feud their way to cage match"
Step 9: Protag invites to ring- no face off- (both workers are catalysts.)
I would use the 'Skit: Face Off, But No Contact' angle for that one, Miser.
The Turning of Bundy:
Believe it or not, Step 5- Hype angle announcer (catalyst) and worker (subject)
I suggest one of the 'Announcer Hypes Singles' angles.
More importantly, what are some tips to find the right angles easily? I've been filtering by Type and sometimes Filtering by Number of Participants- but I found that not to be guaranteed success.
That one is tougher. As I wrote all of them, I know exactly which angle goes with which. I was thinking of maybe adding a storyline section to the DOTT Read Me - maybe with all the 'suggested' angles for each plot point.
Would that help?
In the meantime, you can always go into the main editor and check out the Analysis of each plot point. That lists out all of the possible angles that can be used.
1. As MACW, how am I supposed to hire people like, oh, Tully Blanchard and Ole Anderson, in order to put on the Four Horsemen storylines? They have loyalty to their respective promotions, making it impossible to hire them away. Neither promotion is doing poorly.
Substitute Tully for... oh... Rufus R. Jones? ;)
If you are trying to form the Horsemen a couple of years early (they formed in Spring of '85), you'll just have to find suitable replacements. Or wait.
All loyalty relationships change over time. I can attest to seeing Tully hit the free agent market eventually. Ole? I'm not sure. The loyalty to Barnett combined with his head booker position might be a tough one.
I would wait until Tully and Gino Hernandez become available. Gino is a much better fit than either Anderson (imho). :)
Saying Ole loved anyone but his actual family is stretching it. Heh.
Lars had a falling out with the JCP office in the 70s for whatever reason, according to an interview I have read. It's one of the reasons that he never had an extended stay in Crockett Land.
From what I understand, he was really bitter for awhile that Gene and Ole became 'the' Andersons - whereas he (Lars) was one of the first, heh.

Ah, so loyalty changes over time, even with family? I don't plan on forming the Horsemen early, mind you. I just figured that Tully and Ole would never be available because Tully is related to SWCW's owner and Ole has a head booker position and loyalty to Barnett.
I guess I'll wait and see what happens come 1985. I would feel dirty for using anyone other than the original four for the initial formation, though. Not sure if that makes sense, but meh. Hopefully, Ole will fail his owner goals, hahaha.
Thanks for the history on Lars, by the way. Very interesting stuff there.

After playing a few months, I think the Resilience stat probably needs tweaking on a whole ton of workers. So far, in just a little over two months, I've seen probably a few dozen injuries across the game world, many of them pretty serious. Looking at Resilience, I notice a lot of people have it in the D and C range. From my experience, anything under B- will be extremely injury prone, which is why Quick add usually sets it at least in the upper 70s and lower 80s. While I wasn't watching wrestling in the early 80s, I do question if there were this many actual injuries back then.
A lot of people also have really low body stats, which causes really early retirement. Mr. Ryland had said a while back that a wrestler will be fairly likely to consider retirement once anything hits down around 60, which would be a C, so I've seen stuff like Andre the Giant retire within the first couple months at a fairly young age.
Anyway, just a couple ideas.

What I would do, Mike, is create a new database through the main editor. After that, cut and paste all the downloaded files/folders into the new database folder you created.

I am in December of 1983 and my roster little resembles the real AWA roster at that time. Haha.
But McMahon has stolen from me:
Jesse Ventura
Ken Patera
Rick Martel
Wahoo McDaniel
Though, I did manage to get the Masked Superstar from the WWF and some other future WWF stars (Sheepherders, The Iron Sheik and Billy Jack Haynes) into the AWA.
My best acquisition thus far seems to be the Fabulous Ones, for some odd reason, they've really gotten over with my crowds and its forcing me to put them into the title picture really fast.
Rick Martel was my AWA North American Champion when they stole him so I had to hurry and put the belt on someone so made him take a fall to Dr. David Schultz.

Boon, have you thought of getting rid of everyone's weekly "Tour" shows? I know that it's more realistic, but the CPU always turns it into a weekly PPV, which is one of the most unrealistic things that could happen. I think it would be better for you to just give them another TV show or nothing else since promotions usually pick up another show anyway.

What I have been experimenting with in my own game is the outright removal of all of the PPV carriers. If I want to import them back in at a later date, I can. I suggest doing the same.
Cutting the weekly show is something I would like to avoid. After all, you need to book people or their morale plummets. One weekly television show and an end of the month event will not cut it (especially when that weekly t.v. is an hour and you've a big roster).
Regardless, the realism argument doesn't float as well when attaching itself to a D.O.T.T. debate. TEW is not a territorial-era wrestling promotion sim; there will always be 'unrealistic' instances in the data and how it unfolds. :)
As an example: you might believe that PPV carriers are unrealistic for the era - but Starrcade '83 was broadcast on closed circuit, the Prism network that the WWF used was a PPV/cable t.v. hybrid, heck - the Ali v. Inoki fight was broadcast on closed circuit in the 70s.
It's a toughie. The best bet, as mentioned above, is to remove the carriers from your own game and reintroduce them later on.

Oh, I realize that closed circuit was the PPVs of the day and have no problem what-so-ever with them in the game and I understand about getting your talent used. However, like I said the problem comes with the AI controlled promotions going breserk with 2 National TV shows, a Big Show PPV, and then a Weekly PPV.
If you get rid of the weekly events, the human players can always add them to use all their talent and you don't get the problem of having to make them PPVs to keep up with the Jones (or in this case the Crocketts).
I think I am going to get rid of them myself and run it through 1984 tocompare it to a test I did with them still in.

Another update:
It took to the tail end of 1986, but it finally happened, AWA gets a challenger in the world's biggest promotion from the Cindrella, WWC. WWF, GCW, and MACW are still trying to get over to the B- threshold and WCCW is right behind. While further back than the other three, WCCW actually has B- regions so, I've betting they'll make it to National next.
Update in my game..
The WWF has started to release some of the early talent it raided. They dropped Piper and Ventura.. I am immediatley offered them ridicullous contracts (I am the AWA)
BTW.. I created a new tag team.. Its Greg Gagne and David Sammartino, I call them "The Shadows"
:D
Why would you saddle Greg with David, that's just cruel.

don't know if it's been mentioned yet or not, but the "Persian Club Challenge" storyline seems to be invalid...
You might have missed the v1.25 update, which was released awhile back. That storyline was fixed along the way.
-----------
Dropping those weekly events might be the way to go, foolinc; good suggestion. :)
Several of the previous D.O.T.T. scenarios had no weekly events for the AI feds - so I'm cool with it either way.
-----------
What about my comments about Resilience needing tweaking? I am seeing injuries happen every two or three days, and it is absolutely insane.
I'm still mulling it over. ;)
While I agree that Andre might need his Physical Stats and Resilience upped, generally speaking, I do not agree that there is a problem.
The frequency of injuries is not that much different than the Cornellverse, nor any other data set out there (I think - heh... I havent played any of them). And the lower Resilience average of the gameworld roster is an intended challenge; it makes sharing workers very risky and the young workers all the more useful.
Plus, I'm not sure the average age of the wrestlers in the data, but I'm willing to bet it is somewhere in the low 30s. I wanted to reflect the toll these older wrestlers paid for working 6-7 shows a week.

Almost 430 posts in, I finally post a thanks. I'm not a huge fan of the era, as it was just as I was getting into wrestling (and was born not too long before) but it's definitely worth while.
Also about the injury thing. I'm only about 3-4 months in on my game, but I've only had one injury, that being Invader #1. I've seen small injuries, nothing major really outside of the WWF.

How could I explain it in my diary? And how would I be able to maintain my momentum? The television shows are important to my product, and the pay-per-view deal was a big thing for my company. I have no way to explain losing everything in my diary, and no way to keep my momentum going.
Does anyone know how the patch affects games that are already in progress exactly? I need to know the precise details of the patch and exactly what the limits are and how it all works.

Oh never thought about that. TEW is all in my head/imagination, not a diary. I would think you would be able to make up a good enough story as to why your 2nd TV show got cancelled.
Anubis
03-06-2007, 10:55 PM
Nope, can't figure that out, or how to explain pay-per-view suddenly vanishing from the face of the world.
So depressing. I was going to try to keep that diary running for years upon years. I gotta say, while it seems like a decent update on the surface, it really screws over any games that are already in progress. That and the DOTT data for events and shows is going to need to be entirely re-done now to account for the changes.

Yeah, a feature that adds historical accuracy and makes DOTT more realistic, what a huge screw up that is. Damn me straight to hell for going out of my way to try and help improve one of the most popular mods.
I need to know the precise details of the patch and exactly what the limits are and how it all works.
It works exactly how it says it works, you can't negotiate for PPV deals prior to 1985, and you can't negotiate for a second TV show prior to the autumn 1983 season. Promotions that start with PPV deals or have them in save games will keep them until the point that they have to be re-negotiated. Promotions with more than one TV show can keep both shows but can't negotiate for any more.
That and the DOTT data for events and shows is going to need to be entirely re-done now to account for the changes.
Yeah, I purposely added it just to annoy the makers of DOTT. Did it occur to you that when adding a feature that specifically effects one mod that they may have had some input on it?

Look, sorry for my whining and griping and bitching about this one, but it has taken me quite a while to settle into a save that I could stay interested in and enjoy, one that I am even writing a diary for. Excuse me for being beyond frustrated that my hard work is essentially wasted because of this update. I was really enjoying my save, but it gets kinda screwed up at this point to lose the pay-per-view deal since I have no plausible way to explain pay-per-views suddenly disappearing in the diary, and it also goofs up my plans. I could not plan ahead for something like this, and so it is a major blow.
Now I know I do offer a lot of criticism with an unintentionally brash tone, but I usually mean well by it. I respect the work you do, Mr. Ryland, and I love TEW2007. Any criticism I have had has been an honest attempt to help, even if my tone leaves a bit to be desired. I can not help how I sound over the internet, it is just a quick, nothing more and no disrespect intended.
This time is different. I am whining and griping and bitching, mainly because yet another save is goofed up, and I am incredibly freaking frustrated. If this were something that you could turn on or off, or something that did not apply to games already in progress, I would have no problem with it and I would be quietly enjoying my save. If it had always been this way, I again would have no problem with it. The problem is that is directly affects my current save. The TV show thing, no big deal, I care not about that since I am in July 1983 with several seasons to go on both of my shows, meaning by the time I need to renew the deals, it will be after August 1983 and thus a moot point. The problem is with losing my pay-per-view deal when it runs out in a few months with no decent explanation whatsoever; I can not claim the monopoly story since WWF competes pretty well with me, and I can not claim cancellation because my buyrates are good and increasing with every pay-per-view. The only thing I could put in the diary is "The cruel God Ryland decided to kill pay-per-view for the next year and a half," and that just sounds silly since I meant my diary to be serious.
So yeah, I am saying it, I do not like the execution of this update because it will goof up what I have already done in the game. I am whining and griping and bitching out of pure frustration. Sorry for having an opinion and being outspoken. I am just sick of having to start over.

Jack Brisco is set to "Sometimes" for all three of Wrestler, Occasional Wrestler, and Road Agent, and he always wants to be an Occasional Wrestler and gets pushed as such when I click on Automatic Pushes. Wrestler should probably be set to "Usually" so that he is properly maintained as an active wrestler (since it appears he was active throughout 1983).

Again, I have Jack and I push him as a main eventer. Have no problems from him unless I try to use him 4 times a week. Yes he says that he perfers to be pushed as an occassional wrestler. At 3 shows a week he appears 1-2. So I occasionally use him as it fits my promotion. Again adapt to the game.

I must say that this is a fantastic mod, and reading diaries about it got me to plunk down the $34.95 for TEW07. Running Angelo Poffo's ICW is extremely difficult, as some of the higher rated workers in the federation work elsewhere on Thursdays :D
Are you taking suggestions for workers that aren't currently in the data? While the data as far as workers go is very extensive, I noticed some minor guys were missing.
I didn't see the following:
Rusty Brooks - Debuted in 1982, might be as someone else in the data but I couldn't find any of his aliases listed on obsessedwithwrestling.com. Claim to fame was wrestling Hulk Hogan on live TV.
Jerry Oske - Again, might be someone else in the data. However, it's hard to find a lot of information on him. It's surprising, since he has a victory over Randy Savage for the AWA Southern Championship, and as Jerry Allen, beat Rick Rude at a house show when Rude made his WWF debut. The little I've been able to find about him indicated that he was a pretty solid worker with a good look and a lot of potential that just ended up being used as a WWF jobber by the late 80s.
Mario Mancini - Debuted in August 1984 at 18 years old. He was one of my favorite jobbers of all time, and certainly made his opponents look real good at times.

As previously stated, one of the main reasons I feel uncomfortable doing the New Workers is that I stopped watching wrestling in the mid 80s; I'm square on modern workers and couldn't do them justice.

I would say that his stats should probably be low, but the fact that they're all 0%'s indicates to me that it's an oversight. Surely he wasn't great across the board, but any joe shmoe off the street would have some stats SOMEWHERE.

You are correct; it is an oversight on my part. Fixed for the next update.

I can't find the right angle for the Trap at the end of Turning of Superfly I, or the Decision angle with 4 subjects for the Final Conflict I storyline, either.

There is none for teh Turning of The Superfly angle (I assume it's the "Albano orders Crippler attack" step).
And i can't find any plot point that needs a decision angle in either parts of "Final Conflict".

The booking of Steamboat and Youngblood vs. Briscoes is a Decision step, with all 4 as subjects. I tried decision with 4 and 5 characters, because I figured there'd have to be a 5th character making the decision.
I eventually just evolved and skipped some steps.
Its a great game. I've had some fantastic matches, especially with Harley Race as my champ; the belt is fast approaching full prestige. I've seen Harley pull A* matches out of Backlund, Hogan, Rhodes, and Jack Brisco, so far.

I feel bad for the AI, they can't seem to put on nearly as good of matches as my WWF. I've had A-A* matches with Andre vs. Slaughter, Andre vs. Muraco, Hogan vs. Sammartino, Backlund vs. Steamboat, Steamboat vs. Funk, and a couple others I think, but I haven't seen any with the AI.

^^^ How many minutes are you giving those guys for their match? For some reason if I give anyone on my WWF roster more than 11 mins in a match I get the note saying they were exhausted by the end.

I have never received that message using those guys in much longer matches than 11 minutes. What kind of matches are you using? Maybe the higher risk matches make them tire quicker or maybe they are worn down going into the match (high work rate, etc).
