I'm just doing 1 v 1. The highest risk match I've ever used, once in awhile is a cage match.

If their fatigue level is A* they should be able to go for a 12 minute match you'd think.

It all depends upon who you are talking about.

I've played the WWF many times and have not found that to be a problem. Sure, I've received the message for a chunk of the undercard (and Billy Graham - heh), but there is a reason you'd see cards like this back then:

Landover, MD - Capital Centre - April 23, 1983
Televised on the USA Network - 5/11/83:

Eddie Gilbert defeated Baron Mikel Scicluna at 8:09
Charlie Fulton defeated Pete Sanchez at 11:13
Swede Hanson defeated Mr. Fuji at 10:45
Rocky Johnson defeated WWF IC Champion Don Muraco via count-out at 15:33 when the champion became entangled in the ring ropes
Johnny Rodz defeated Victor Rivera at 12:39
Andre the Giant fought Big John Studd to a double disqualification at 23:14
Bob Bradley defeated Jose Estrada at 11:13
Tony Garea defeated Tony Altimore at 7:08
Salvatore Bellomo defeated Superstar Billy Graham via disqualification at 10:14 when Graham began choking his opponent with his wrist tape

Thanks, that does help put it in perspective.

And if this helps anyone I got an A for Hogan-Valentine just working a 12 min regular match in tri state region, they seem to gel pretty good

Consrvtve, are you following the Endurance guide here on the forum?

I've got a terrific feud with Andre vs. Slaughter, and I'm generally putting them in 10 minute matches yielding A or A* matches.

D. Boon's... I notice on that card Andre wrestled a 23 minute match against John Studd, yet Andre's endurance is only D+ in this mod.

In the "Advice Compilation Thread" someone posted this for endurance ratings and how long they could go (at 100% match intensity with the "All Out Match" note I believe):

Anything less - 6 minutes max (even 0% stamina!)
Low D- (35.1%) - 6 minutes max
High D- (41%) - 10 minutes max
Low D (41.1%) - 10 minutes max
High D (47%) - 10 minutes max
Low D+ (47.1%) - 10 minutes max
High D+ (53%) - 15 minutes max
Low C- (53.1%) - 15 minutes max
High C- (59%) - 15 minutes max
Low C (59.1%) - 15 minutes max
High C (65%) - 15 minutes max
Low C+ (65.1%) - 15 minutes max
High C+ (71%) - 34 minutes max
Low B- (71.1%) - 34 minutes max
High B- (77%) - 34 minutes max
Low B (77.1%) - 34 minutes max
High B (83%) - 49 minutes max
Low B+ (83.1%) - 49 minutes max
High B+ (89%) - 49 minutes max
Low A (89.1%) - 49 minutes max
High A (95%) - 90 minute max
Low A+ (95.1%) - 90 minutes max
High A+ (100%) - 90 minutes max

... D. Boon's... I notice on that card Andre wrestled a 23 minute match against John Studd, yet Andre's endurance is only D+ in this mod.

I knew someone would bring that one up. :)

True. Andre (and Studd) did wrestle 20 minute matches, but... of the records available in '83 that list the time of bouts, here are some more of Andre's:

* Feb 18, 1983: Andre the Giant & Jimmy Snuka defeated the Wild Samoans at 12:51

* Mar 12, 1983: Andre the Giant won a 20-man, $10,000 battle royal by last eliminating Mr. Fuji at 12:08 -- (ouch... a 20 man battle royale over in 12 minutes?)

* Mar 19, 1983: Andre the Giant, Jimmy Snuka, & WWF World Champion Bob Backlund defeated Big John Studd, Afa, & Capt. Lou Albano in a Best 3 out of 5 falls match, 3-0; #1: Andre's team via disqualification at 10:02; #2: Andre's team at 1:59; #3: Andre's team at 1:25 (total: 13:26)

* April 25, 1983: Andre the Giant defeated Big John Studd via count-out at 8:22

- Once again, all credit to Graham Cawthon
----------

So while he did wrestle 20 minute matches, it was not the norm for the Big Guy.

And here we go...

Here is the latest set of data for the scenario, for those interested:

v1.35 (http://cyclopsltd.net/files/DOTT_v135.rar)

All of the latest pics (http://cyclopsltd.net/files/People_v135.rar)

* Events have been reworked to take into consideration the new historic blocks
* I tweaked some workers
* Several Storylines fixed

One of the cooler things about the new picture pack is the inclusion of a bunch of generic pics that cover a ton of workers in the data.
These were created by a friend of mine, Troy Perry; all credit goes his way.

Here are some examples:

D. Boon's Ghost

Taken from Graham Cawthon's site:

Here is his first reappearance for the WWF:
WWF @ St. Louis, MO - Chase Park Hotel - December 27, 1983 (1,100; sell out)
Wrestling at the Chase taping:
1/7/84:
WWF Tag Team Champions Rocky Johnson & Tony Atlas defeated Dennis Stamp & Jerry Valiant when Atlas pinned Stamp following a press slam (Valiant's return)
David Schultz pinned Ken Jugan with a Southern piledriver (Schultz' debut)
Hulk Hogan pinned Bill Dixon with the legdrop (Hogan's return after nearly a 3 year hiatus)
Big John Studd defeated Jimmy Jackson
Ivan Putski pinned Bill Berger with the Polish Hammer
Adrian Adonis & Dick Murdoch defeated Kevin Collins & Terry Daniels (Adonis' return match; Murdoch's debut; Daniels' debut)
1/14/84:
David Schultz pinned Jimmy Jackson with the Southern piledriver
Ivan Putski defeated Dennis Stamp
Mil Mascaras defeated Ken Jugan
Big John Studd defeated James Burke & Rob Cheaney in a handicap match
Mr. Fuji defeated Kevin Collins

Here is the first television for Hogan. He was Backlund's 'special weapon':

WWF @ Allentown, PA - Agricultural Hall - January 3, 1984
Championship Wrestling taping:
1/7/84 - featured the debut of Gene Okerlund as he did commentary alongside Vince McMahon; included the announcement that Hulk Hogan & Bob Backlund would face Mr. Fuji & Tiger Chung Lee the following week:
WWF Tag Team Champions Tony Atlas & Rocky Johnson defeated Bill Dixon & Charlie Fulton at 3:12 when Johnson pinned Dixon with a sunset flip
David Schultz (w/ Roddy Piper) pinned Steve Lombardi at 1:48 with an elbow drop from the middle turnbuckle (Schultz & Piper's debut)
WWF World Champion the Iron Sheik (w/ Freddie Blassie) defeated John Callahan at 2:14 via submission with the Camel Clutch
Tito Santana pinned Bob Bradley at 2:14 with the flying forearm
The Masked Superstar pinned Victor Mercado at 1:17 with the swining neckbreaker
Bob Backlund (w/ Hulk Hogan) defeated Samula (w/ Afa, Sika, & Capt. Lou Albano) via disqualification at 4:34 when the Samoans and Albanoattacked Backlund as he applied the Crossface Chicken Wing to his opponent; after the bout, Hogan and Backlund cleaned house; the bout was to have been Backlund and his mystery partner against the Samoans but Albano refused to the match, instead making it a one-on-one encounter
Mr. Fuji defeated Dennis Hill at 2:19

September 1984 - AWA/HCW/CWA/WWF (!) go out of business in the same month. Black Friday for the wrestling industry there but it leaves me as WCCW equally on top of the wrestling world with the NWA/MACW.

I didn't think the wrestling world was right without the McMahons so I added WWE as a regional promotion who are only over in New England and Tri-State.

I'm having a BLAST running WCCW and I'm into September of 1983. Just had an big storyline where Masked Superstar masterminded David Von Erich's heel turn against his family. It built to a big Kerry-Superstar match (the gateway to Kerry's shot at David's Texas Title) and the match got an A*!! I was so excited I needed to share it :) I love it when a storyline comes together!

D Boon, you're the man.

I've been playing 2 months of WWF, keeping the roster and champions as is for now (first time I ever tried that). Anyway, Backlund is is very solid...with great matches with Stevens, Sgt, and actually got an A match vs. Masked Superstar. Bruno gets high ratings vs Graham. Muraco is pretty solid depending on his opponent. Pedro is great, too. Tag Team division is pretty weak. I've been using Chief Jay a lot since he has a written contract. He and Fuji can give me a C- to B- 5-minute match. Been jobbing out Patterson since I'm going to make him an Agent in a few months, but he can still work a good match.

Notes of interest:

Andre got hurt, so I rested him in preparation for his Studd battle at the end of May. Unfortunately, the damn Japanese had him win a tournament, and his spleen was ruptured and will be out 3 months.

Studd and Albano's gimmicks are getting stale with the audiences in May.

Invaders-Samoans brawls don't get over well.

Some guys get angry when I book lower guys to win a 10-man battle royal.

Some random questions:
Do dark matches kill my card rating? I'd love to sign Rick Rude or Shane and have them get experience during dark matches, but in previous games I've run, they get graded pretty harsh (E). Same with Eddie Gilbert.
Are guys like Garea, Williams, Jones, Bellemo, Rodz, Samu, etc capable of getting a B match? As much as I would like to use them, when I do they kill my card rating.
Howard Finkel is a Personality...is that okay?
Does an offscreen wrestler in an angle still get paid?
To confirm going National: Do I need 7 or 8 of the 10 US regions to be B-, and the rest D?
Based on other people's sims, which guys on the WWF roster have great matches together at the beginning?
Any sleepers currently unemployed? I thought Sivi Afi would be one. I brought him in an he and Snuka had a D.

1) Nope. That's what they are there for...you can give younger workers experience without hurting your card.

2) Probably not, but possibly. It all depends on getting them over and who you match them up with.

3) Yes.

4) No.

Thanks, guys...that will help me a lot now. I was afraid that dark matches would kill the mood of the crowd, but I guess if my opener is hot, it doesn't matter. I guess it would be a good chance to get the lower guys on the mic, too, and involve them in angles, since otherwise...E+. :) Yes, Garea and Snuka had a couple of good 5-minute bouts.

FYI...after a month+ storyline Backlund and Snuka finished in a cage. It was a B+.

Slaughter + Pedro didn't seem to click well C+.

Muraco + Rocky Johnson had a great B+ lumberjack match.

Patterson and Masked Superstar had a quick B+ match.

Putski and Santana once again stunk up the place with a C.

Bruno (sub for Andre) and Studd...okay (C+) in a first blood.

Just wanted to chime in with a thanks to D. Boon's Ghost. I'm really enjoying this mod and am very impressed with the level of research that had to go into it. I started my own promotion on rock hard and am now into 1985 and still in business. WWF have already gone bankrupt in one of the biggest shocks in my game and the AWA is the dominant promotion. Right now I'm just running my small promotion with as many cheap guys as I can get, Jesse Barr and Rick Rude are two of my top guys and Lex Luger has just entered the game so I might have some plans for him.

Love the mod, there is one thing that bothers me though but it could be that I just don't know about the time period.

While playing with the WWF I tried to sign The Road Warriors and Harley Race but Vince stopped me both times because of his relationship with some of the people, there were a few others as well. But didn't these relationships happen well after the time of the data?

Depends on what you mean by "relationship". I assume you're talking about the Promotional Pacts. Those happened before Wrestelmania. That was when all the terrtories had a "gentleman's agreement" not to go into each other's territories, to share talent...etc. Vince was the first one to really break that and go national. That's pretty much what the mod is about.

PoisonedSuperman

Oh no, sorry about that I am talking about his individual relationships with the talent.

Ah ok. There was definitely some tension between Vince and Harley Race during that time. I'm not sure about RW Hawk, though. I know they definitely didn't like each other in recent times. D Boon's research is really thorough though, so I would tend to believe what he puts in the mod.

D. Boon's Ghost
04-15-2007, 03:51 PM
Race is still loyal to his own promotion. With Vince breaking off during that NWA meeting, I figured just about all of the NWA owners would distrust him.

While Bob Geigel is actual owner of Central States (in the scenario, at least), Race has interests there.

Re: The Road Warriors... Hawk, in the Road Warriors shoot, professed an absolute hatred of McMahon. While that developed over time, I don't believe Hawk liked him to begin with.

McMahon tried very hard to get Hawk and Animal into the WWF since at least early '84. Ellering supposedly negotiated a deal that was laughed at, which in turn soured the Roadies on New York.

At least for a few years - heh.
After Georgia and special attraction runs in various southern promotions, the three headed to Gagne country (AWA) - then to Crockett (Mid Atlantic). In the meantime, Vince got sick of trying to buy them, so he created his own: Demolition.

Regardless, relationships do wear off over time. In long term tests, I've been able to hire a bunch of people you cannot at the beginning: Ted DiBiase, Gino Hernandez, etc.

In addition to my active game, in some spare time I run an autoclicker, and am now in about August 1986. I left everything default, unlike my personal game. In my personal game, I changed some stats, and eliminated the weekly events, and it's proving to be a lot more fun without the weekly events. In my autoclicking game, however, I left the weekly events on (I'm glad I turned them off for my personal game, because the game is a mess to follow with the weekly events on).

Some observations midway through 1986:

-The NWA World Title gets defended much less than the WWF World Title, because the NWA Tag Titles are also Main Event level, so the NWA Champ often participates in Tag Titles matches at big events. Greg Valentine defended 18 times in a 17 month reign, whereas WWF champs were defending 24 times in 5-6 month reigns.

-The WWF Champs were Backlund (to start), Slaughter, Backlund, Slaughter, Backlund, Orndorff, Snuka, Orndorff.

-Hulk Hogan is an upper midcarder, 2-time Tag Champs with Manny Fernandez.

-Wrestlemania I was headlined by Bob Backlund retaining his World Title against Don Muraco in a B- match. WM2 was headlined by Bob Backlund retaining his Title against Tito Santana in C+ Match. WM3 had sort of a double main event with Snuka retaining his title against Orndorff in a B+ match and Morales/Backlund defeating Steve Keirn/Rip Oliver in the real main event in a B match.

-WWF rose to National in April 1985, the only promotion to have done so.

-AWA, AJPW, Georgia, Florida, CMLL, C-States, Houston, ASW, NWF, CWA, POWW, and JPUK went out of business.

-AJPW and C-State's collapse allowed the new St. Louis promotion to be run by Giant baba (owner) and Harley Race (head booker). Despite being a small promotion, their monthly shows have all been C or C+.

-This is my first TEW, so I've never been able to watch games develop over a long time, which is a key reason for this test. Some things have been really interesting. My favorite case has been Paul Orndorff. Through 1983 and 1984, he worked with the AWA, Japan Pro, and GCW. His last match in GCW saw him beat Ronnie Garvin for the National TV Title in March 84, right before the company folded. Again, his last match in the AWA (and also, in the AWA's history), saw him go over Nick Bockwinkle for the AWA World Title in July 1984. He wrestled inconspicuously in Japan in August & September, before signing with the WWF. In his first WWF match, he beat Invader I for the Intercontinental Title on TV in October, holding the belt until January 85. In April, he beat Bob Backlund for his first WWF World Title, and is now the current 2-time champ. It was really fun to see him at the end of GCW and AWA's runs, immediately become a star in the WWF, and then go on to be the first non-Backlund/Slaughter man to hold the WWF Title.

-Orndorff and Snuka are both "A" over in the USA. Snuka borders on A* fairly often.

-Andre the Giant hasn't wrestled since September 1984. He worked 1984 with NJPW, who was running monthly shows. He left the WWF in October 1983. Since he hasn't wrestled in almost 2 years, his overness is now down to a C+ in the US.

-WWF is national with a Main Event that consists of Backlund, Buddy Rose, Snuka, Orndorff, Morales, Slaughter, Santana, and Tommy Rich. Occasionally Butch Reed, Hulk Hogan, and Jerry Stubbs have found their way into the main event as well.

-Ric Flair never worked for anyone other than MACW, and left them in September 85, and hasn't wrestled since.

-Wrestlers of the Year have been Terry Funk (83), Greg Valentine (84), and Dick Murdoch (85).

-The First A match was in March 1986 in MACW, with Greg Valentine beating Ricky Steamboat.

-Ric Flair never worked for anyone other than MACW, and left them in September 85, and hasn't wrestled since.

I think he's gotten too big to be hired. I'm in May 84 of yet another ICW game(I'm making money now and up to regional, yaaaaay!), and Ted Dibiase and Terry Gordy are just sitting in the Unemployed market after they left their promotions. Well, Ric Flair is sitting at the C+/B- overness range, which I don't think is out of the reach of cult promotions, but I don't know. He hasn't signed with the WWF, who is national, either.

Edit: Ric Flair is at B- overness, close to a B. The only other wrestler with B- overness in the US who is unemployed is Nick Bockwinkel. After the AWA folded in July 84, he took time off until March 85, when he joined MLW. He wrestled with them until November 85, having some excellent battles with Ricky Steamboat, and hasn't wrestled since.

Other B- wrestlers who aren't employed by the WWF are Bob Armstrong, Buzz Sawyer, Dick Murdoch, Dusty Rhodes, Gino Hernandez, Greg Valentine, Harley Race, Jake Roberts, Ricky Steamboat, Ted DiBiase, and Wahoo McDaniel.

I just found Lane Huffman (Stevie Ray of Harlem Heat) among the active wrestlers in 1983, though his Wiki says he didn't start wrestling until the 90's. So I don't know, just thought I'd mention it.

WCCW:

I've been playing with World Class Championship Wrestling and am up to November 1983 and we just jumped up to Cult level. Some interesting happenings...

** I started off really basic and just ran the Freebirds vs. Von Erichs war (which lasted for about 3 mos. until Terry Gordy quit the company) and parts 2 & 3 of Battle of the Valets with Jim Garvin and Chris Adams. Kevin and Gordy traded the American Title once and Adams is now TV champion, about to embark on a series with Great Kabuki.

** The Rock & Roll Express won the American Tag Titles from The Freebirds and then dropped them to the Midnight Express a few months later. They have been waging war in the territory and the storyline is about C+ to B level. Paul Ellering has recently brought in the Road Warriors and they are starting to catch on. The most recent tag acquisition is Stan Lane and Steve Keirn....the Fabulous Ones!

** Paul Orndorff is the current American Champion after defeating Kevin Von Erich. He is in a feud now with Ricky Steamboat. Jim Duggan came into the territory and has been feuding with Skandor Akbar's Devestation Inc. team of King Kong Bundy and Bill Irwin. Duggan has brought in Bruiser Brody for a few matches as his mystery tag partner (we aren't big enough for Brody to sign with).

** The Texas Title was reinstated (after initially being unified with the TV title by Jim Garvin and Iceman King Parsons) and is currently the focus of the hottest feud ever in the company....

David Von Erich turning heel on his family. This is an A storyline.

It all started back around July, the Freebird feud pretty much over as Gordy dropped a Loser Leave Town match to Kevin. Kerry and David were teaming and David had been acting grumpy with all of the attention lavished on his younger brother. Kerry took a match with the Midnight Express to determine the #1 contenders to the tag titles without consulting David first. This lead to David turning on Kerry during the match and leaving him high and dry.

Kevin and Kerry demanded answers for the next few weeks on TV but David refused to appear. His first appearance came when Fritz reinstated the Texas Title and booked a four person tournament. It was David vs. Kabuki and Kerry vs. Michael Hayes in the first round. David dispatched of Kabuki that first week with Kerry-Hayes happening the next week.

Come TV taping time, Kerry is found in his locker room in a pool of his own blood. Stretchered out by paramedics and unable to compete, causing Hayes to move to the finals against David. David came out, all heated and cut a vicious promo on Hayes, blaming him for the attack. David demanded they have their finals match right now and went on to beat Hayes and become Texas Champion.

The following week, Kerry cut a promo and claimed that two men jumped him. One was masked and the other was....before he could finish The Masked Superstar blindsided him (making his WCCW debut) and beat on him. David Von Erich ran in to make the save...but then smiled and started beating on Kerry himself as the crowd went nuts! It seems Superstar has gotten in David’s ear about how the family had cast a shadow on him and now he is out to prove that he is the greatest Von Erich.

The feud has resulted in what may be MOTY as Kerry and Superstar fought to an A* match (the only ever in the game world to date). David successfully defended the title against Kevin and Kerry and both matches got A’s.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but there is an error in the "Flair for the Gold, Part Two" storyline.

Step 11 is "Announcer hypes recent events" (right before playing a video of it), but the roles are Ric Flair, Dick Slater, and Cowboy Bob Orton as Subjects with Wahoo McDaniel as the Catalyst. It should be the "Announcer" that is the Catalyst, of course.

Feel free. I'd like to think that a bunch of people would find a more comprehensive New Workers file quite handy. If nothing else, it would make long-term games using this data much more attractive.

Due to other (and original) kayfabe-oriented projects in the works - and the fact I have not touched TEW in weeks, I will not be updating this any longer. Perhaps when TEW'08 rolls around I will consider doing another version of this 80s scenario, but for now I feel the base is solid enough (despite some small issues mentioned here by others).

------

So thanks to everyone for all their support since this modification got off the ground. It is my hope that I helped pass some of your downtime over the years with this little homage of mine.

It's funny... but when I first started modding this 80s stuff into Adam's games (for the first TEW), I honestly didn't expect more than a couple of people to dig this. It strangely would go on to becoming one of the more respected modification projects in the TEW series, despite the fact that it is such a niche - and that it lusted after monkey testicles (or so I am told). Heh.

Danke, take care - and wish me luck. :)

Ah, and shipshirt? That game sounds rad. You can never go wrong with Masked Superstar. :)

So who do we talk to about further expanding the storyline base now? I've been thinking the community needs more tag angles. Like maybe Sheepherders vs Fantastics or Briscos vs Funks from the DOTT era.

I think this mod is so successfull because it plays better than anything else out there, maybe even better than Cverse. It is almost like TEW07 was made for DOTT. Even if you don't know much about this time period (and people don't) it doesn't matter because the bios are great and you can just explore the mod and have fun pushing people you have never heard of. DOTT will never be surpassed in terms of quality and will forever be the gold standard of mods.

I'm curious to hear other people's experience with loyalty in this mod.

I'm having an awesome time a few months into my WCCW dynasty, and certainly enjoying the fact that the Von Erichs have no interest taking PPA deals anywhere else. How long will this last, and how realistic is the game in this regard?

A perfect example is Randy Savage wrestling in his father's promotion. In my game, they lost their TV slot, and are down to a monthly event. How long will Savage stay loyal, considering that he'll be still be used on "100%" of his father's shows (so he probably won't have complaints about not being used).

Haven't played the 07 version yet. So maybe this is a moot question. But any chance getting Tom Urbanski in the talent pool? I was poking around in the AOL news section and came across a really interesting little nugget. Seems Urbanski, best known as the security guard paralyzed in the Pacman Jones "rain-making" strip club brawl, was a former WWF preliminary worker. The story gave his professional pseudonyms as The Mad Russian and The Polish Prince. It also included a quote from Urbanski about how much fun playing the heel had been during his ring career. Could be fun to try and push Urbanski and see if we could keep his career afloat so he's still mobile past 2007.

UWE Held Krunk last night, in ON - Fort William Gardens, and drew 5,000 fans. The feedback from viewers has been pretty good; people seem to have enjoyed the show. The star of the show was Harley Race. On our message boards, the poster 'D.Boon's Ghost' said "Wow, even I'm surprised by that news!!".

LOL, just thought that was funny, first time I seen his name (while playing his mod), and it was a comment on my promotion UWE (Ultimate Wrestling Entertainment).

WinRAR, a program ala WinZIP, but can handle .rar files as well.

D. Boon's Ghost

To expand upon what .SVA mentions:

I like Winrar (http://www.rarlab.com/) a lot; I've used and supported that program for years now.

One thing to keep in mind is that the latest Winzip (11.0, I believe) can now open .rar files. If you are more comfortable with the Winzip interface, you might just want to upgrade the program.

I'm fairly new to the TEW world, having only recently bought TEW 2007 and having barely played 2 months game time in T-Zone. Just downloaded DOTT last night and it seems very interesting.

But I'd like to know if there is any chance of WCW being incorperated into the game at any point? In the game here, they have another name (either Georgia Championship Wrestling or WCCW), and if I have my history correct, they change to WCW around the mid-to-late 80's (after merging with another promotion??).

It would be great if the editor allowed for certain events to be set for a date, like the name change to WCW. Otherwise, we miss out on one of the most important promotions ever.

Also, could anyone tell me if the wrestling world progresses as the game goes on? For example, what was popular in 1985 wasn't popular in 1999 -- does the audience's conception of entertainment change? Or can anything be fine as long as the promotion's style reflects the matches, and, in theory, an Elimination Chamber match could be a big draw in 1984 as it was from 2002 onwards... ?

D. Boon's Ghost
07-11-2007, 12:00 PM
The WCW that you refer to is actually the merging of Jim Crockett's Mid Atlantic promotion with that of Georgia Championship Wrestling. Well... Ole Anderson's Championship Wrestling from Georgia, to be precise (which was the promotion Anderson started right after McMahon bought the GCW name - and airtime - in mid '84).
I want to say this merger took place in either late '84 or early '85 - though I cannot remember the exact timeframe right this second.

WCCW (World Class) was Fritz Von Erich's promotion in Dallas; completely unrelated from WCW.

As far as the second part of your question: I really do not see why you couldn't run the more exotic match types, if you wanted - though I guess it all plays into the promotional sliders. The WWF, for example, is set up as more of a typical Traditional fed - so you'd have to change them around a bit.
As far as I am aware, the audience's tastes do not mutate over time.

- And thanks for the interest. D.O.T.T. is a rather nifty dataset, if I do say so myself. :)

Yeah, it's really very good. I just started up a game as Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling (duh, WCW), and am looking forward to defending my roster against the advances of WWF (if Ricky Steamboat decides to stay with me, I'm pushing a feud with Ric Flair to the moon) :)

You didn't really answer my first question -- BUT, I can let this slide because I've just realised that all I need do is to rename Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling as World Championship Wrestling around '85, and delete GCW from the database. Of course the wrestlers from GCW won't automatically follow onto WCW or WWF, but I can just pick them up as free agents. So that's sorted!

Ahh, I before I go...

What is this talk of having this game with weekly events and without them? Is it more realistic to disallow them in the game? How do I do this?

D. Boon's Ghost
07-11-2007, 07:50 PM
As the existing house show nonsense doesn't reflect the house show circuit back then (at least in my humble opinion), I set just about all of the promotions up to have a weekly event. In this manner, you can use some imagination and claim they are your house shows.

After all, titles did change hands quite often during house tours.

If you don't want to book them, just delete the weekly. You'd still have your weekly t.v. show and your end-of-the-month spectacular.

I'm currently playing a very enjoyable game with this data. I'm playing as a self created British promotion called 'Sports Association Pro Wrestling', and my goal is to make the U.K. the worlds focal point in professional wrestling, (As opposed to the U.S.A.) and to rise my promotion to a global level.

Its a lot of fun, and I've also learned a out about the British 'World of Sport' era, a period in wrestling that I have always wanted to get into.

Just a few questions; Why isn't the ECWA D.O.T.T.? Weren't they around since 1967?

Also, I know Dr. Boon has said that he wont be producing any more updates for this version of D.O.T.T., but is there a possibility that the man may change his mind and indeed bless us with an update? Possibly including some of the issues mentioned previously in this thread and including some of the newer pictures?

Or how about a Death of The Territories 2? Set perhaps in 1984 or 85 as the McMahon empire begins to take shape? That would be awesome, or am I just pushing my luck here? ;)

If I were to delve back into working on this data set, I would most likely start it in January of '84. The Grand Wizard of Wrestling may have been dead at that point (which is a drag; I liked that guy a lot), but the WWF had a replacement manager set to enter at this time that was almost on the same level... in a bizarre, coked-out sort of way: 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper. I'd think that whole timeframe would be a blast to play.

Hogan as WWF champ, Piper debuting as Orndorff's manager, Rhodes about to make a splotch... er, splash in Mid Atlantic as Flair's #1 foe, blah, blah, blah.

It would be fun.

In answer, I'll throw out an emphatic, 'We'll See!'

To Barry, or anyone else-

I found that the weekly events don't play out very well through a long-time game. Having big events every week makes the title reigns shorter, and makes the talent develop too quickly (so that within 5 years, there are TONS of very talented wrestlers to choose from, even with 2 national US promotions, and 3 others other around the world)... so my recommendation is to get rid of all the weekly events. Of course, it all depends on what you're looking for in the game.

Well, aside from the Super8 tournament, neither had I really. I was comparing the promotions in in the D.O.T.T. to the ones in the 1993 scenario when I noticed that ECWA's start date was 1967.

I've imported the promotion, from 1993, into my current game as a local fed. It's been quite a welcome addition thus far, providing work for some of the unhappy unemployed workers of the U.S. and some American exposure for a few British and Japanese workers.

Thank you

D Boon, if I may, I would so humbly assert my preference for an older era MOD rather than a 1984 MOD. Once we start going with your current one, Piper and friends usually wind up with WWF anyway, although the Grand Wizard is still alive way past his real life date. I'd love a quick pre-1980's MOD one day in the future [even if not as detailed as DOTT], especially with the success of the fictional one.

However, I'd take ANYTHING you'd put out, Mr. Baker. :D

Once again, D. Boon, thank you- your DOTT MOD is so engrossing and detailed, I truthfully don't NEED any other game or MOD.

I hope a future version of TEW has the ability to set era adjustments, so the universe (product settings, actual TV shows, etc) would evolve on its own, but I don't mind being stuck in the 1980's so..;)

I got a question, is there any way that next time you update or release the thread that you could change the storylines from peoples names to say if they are face or heel? Sometimes I mess this up, I know its not your fault it would just be a big help to me if this could be done.

How did you go about creating the directory you put the mod into? Did you do it within the game program or try to set up the directory first? If you did the latter, you're not finding it because the game's not aware that directory has mod files in it.

I'm ripping things up right now with AWA, decided to play it semi-logically and bring in stars that were of a very old school nature and fit AWA's old school wrasslin' approach. Harley Race is my other mega heel alongside Bockwinkel and The Sheiks, Ken Patera and Jerry Blackwell, brought in Jimmy Hart to manage Race, have Steve Regal and Matt Borne working as their lackeys. Hennan manages Bockwinkel and The Anderson Cousins (Arn and Lars, total silent heel bodyguard types) two very nice heel stables at the top of the card. The only big time face I have left in the main event is Baron Von Raschke, but right below him I'm pushing Rick Martel and Paul Orndorff, so the face ranks are sprce but talented. I of course brought in Larry Lbyszko, slow build for him into the main event.. he'll step into the icon heel role once Bock hangs it up. The only oddballs on my roster are Adrian Street and Miss Linda, figured the full on gender bender gimmick and his dominatrix wife would draw some rowdy heat in the bible belt, eh? Heh.

I'm currently racing to get more prestige than WWF and start raiding talent, I want Ray Stevens before he retires so I can work a few tag matches with him and Bock reunited. I also want Tony Garea and Bob Backlund, both would fit like a glove in my AWA. And once I'm big enough, Dusty Rhodes and Dick Murdoch are so back in AWA, it's not even funny.

*gasp for air*

God damnit, nobody cares about this crap, I know.. but I just can't help making a post like this when I hit a good groove with a DOTT save. lol

Only problem with that is unless your program is taking the AWA national, they don't run the Bible belt. They run mostly the Great Lakes and the Midwest. Granted the Midwest is known for being pretty conservative too so your point kinda remains. And besides, the important part is that Street is a really solid talent behind the gimmick. If Ric Flair is "the original Rated R Superstar" as JBL has suggested on Smackdown, Street is the original Goldust.

That's what I meant, middle America, conservative folks that might find a a full grown British fellow dressed in feminine clothing, makeup and in pigtails a little uncomfortable. Totally on the "original Goldust" comment, spot on. I wish WWE would steal Dustin back from TNA and make Goldust Goldust again, as opposed to the sad comedy act they made him the last few go arounds. The wrestling world needs a few more characters like Adrian Street and Goldust running around.

So has anyone seen any of the new (real life) workers sign with anyone (besides the user player?). I'm a year into the mod as WCCW, and not a single new worker has wrestled a match yet. Are they just going to stay on the sidelines forever?

Love the mod - I've made it to Cult, and am on the fast track to national. I've managed A+ matches with David v. Adonis, Backlund, and Gino Hernandez (who was in on a loan contract), and surprisingly, Kevin v. Buddy Roberts. We also had a super-hot but very short feud between Brody and Terry Funk.

Enchanted- I have a game that i autoclick occasionally to see what happens in the long term, and while newer wrestlers didn't get picked up into stars immediately such as Sting and the Undertaker did in 1989 and 1991, some still eventually get signed. WWF (national) in 1990 signed Kevin Nash, Big Van Vader, and Ultimate Warrior. Big Van Vader is making the greatest strides, and is at C overness.

The key is keeping small promotions open that will hire the young talent and improve them.

I'd like to know that as well. It would be awesome if the "New workers" data included like everyone that debuts up until present day. It'd also be nice to see the women's wrestling scene expanded a bit to include the modern promotions and women. These additions would make this the most definitive comprehensive data package for TEW2007.

I hadn't planned on it - though I would strongly suggest those still playing the mod to do so with their own games. After all, many of the kayfabe stars tended to stick around well into their 50s (whether they should have or not - heh).

Probably easiest to wait until they retire, and if you want them to stick around, put them active again and give back their style before buffing their physical conditions. I think that would work.

Does anyone know if that would work? Like if Harley Race retires too early and you set him back to active, will he eventually retire again, or will he remain active until he dies?

Depends on what you want to do. The WWF, MACW, and AWA would probably be the easier ones in which to succeed with right away.

The WWF will steal certain workers pretty much right off the bat. They're the big dog that you will chase.

I would recommend WCCW (Texas) as well. You have the Von Erichs as very over and you can go right into a feud with the Freebirds (until Michael Hayes wants too much money to re-sign :) ). It's a small roster but a decent sized company. It's a good one to not get too overwhelmed with and you can move up to Cult and be a contender in a couple of years.

D. Boon's Ghost

WCCW is one of my favorites (as might be obvious by the large amount of WCCW-based storylines in the scenario) - but they've a couple of points that make them tough to play. First off, you really need to bring in a respected Road Agent right off the bat in order to keep that roster from revolting. Between the Von Erich brothers and the Freebirds, you've got some head cases that will rip morale apart.

Even worse... if you are playing with Owner Goals and Fritz pulls out the anti-druggie gambit, you are in trouble. Not only do you have to worry about your existing roster, but in the event of a 'no drug users' hiring policy, snagging Gino Hernandez is out of the question.
And WCCW needs Hernandez. He is YOUR champion, dontchaknow. :)

I've never had too many problems without a huge Road Agent but yeah. that no druggie policy can be a killer. It made me have to give up Kerry in one game. Gino is hard to get anyway though due to his loyalty to his "alleged dad" Paul Boesch

(as a side note...I was actually at the Paul Boesch retirement show in Houston in the 80's. I was visiting my stepdad's family down there and they got us tickets to wrestling...and it just happened to be that historic night)

I basically created the storylines for myself - and those that remember them.
I used a Protagonist (Face) / Antagonist (Heel) set-up on a lot of the more generic ones in order to help out. However, on the more customized storylines, I stuck with the actual character names; again... for those that remember them.

I feel if I simply used a Face / Heel designation on those roles, it takes away from the charm of the mod.
I do apologize for whatever hassle that brings with it. Perhaps with the next version I will consider simplifying the process.

I'm thinking about it! :)

There are a few things I would like to do with the mod -- lowering overall worker stats by a good 10-20% across the board (in order to highlight the good workers from the chumps), removing all of those conceptualized house show events (the scheduled weekly 'In Your Town'-type of events), enriching Europe and Mexico by adding more available workers, adding a ton more women to the worker pool, finally doing a more comprehensive New Workers file, etc.
Basically working on making the long-term game just as enjoyable as the short-term.

So we'll see.

What I've tried to do when creating my mythological stories for Panix or Sprinklefurball is note both the role name and likely alignment. That way the source material is honored and folks can relate if they don't know the source that well. Because I do agree with you about the charm of having the original role notations available when using the DOTT stories and data together. It's like an immersion aid that way.

Hey D.Boon,

I just want to comment on D.O.T.T. 2008- if it ever comes to that.

First of all, last year's MOD is still the best MOD, for numerous reasons- one of them being your accurate stats.

Although I doubt the next TEW version would incorporate a truly historical/organic sim, that truly would be the ultimate experience:

If you had an entire historic game that automatically adjusted and evolved by eras, you would have the ability to incorporate house shows more in tune towards reality.

I personally couldn't care less about modern stuff, and have always been obsessed with the past.

I noticed some of your stats for some retired or deceased workers looks like they were active at one time. I always wanted for you to do an older MOD where some of the greats where in their primes, or even a {shudder} fictional universe where everyone is in their primes from across eras.

I had to settle for creating a make-shift personal organic MOD using your workers, and editing each one.

Anyway, D.O.T.T. for this current TEW is the best. Anything you want to do in the future- your loyal fans know it would be of high quality. You will always be limited because TEW doesn't try to emulate pro wrestling exactly (especially past eras) but you make the best of it.

Sounds good Boon! The house shows are a pretty good call to remove. They were a really good idea in theory, but in practice ti really was no substitute. Aside from WWE and there MSG/PRISM/NESN shows (1 each a month) there really was no point. There are 3 changes that would make this sOOO much easier for you though:

1) House Shows even with PPA contracts.
2) Monthly TV Events (Covers WWE style and SNM Style TV)
3) Multiple TV taping events (ie taping 3-4 weeks of TV at one monthly event).

A alternative to 3 would be to have a single TV taping a week but taping 2-3 shows a shot (MACW AND NWA World Wide Wrestling, Championship Wrestling AND All Star Wrestling)

I hope you do NOT change how you write the storylines. I really enjoy having the real worker names included because it helps bring the storyline to life and even helps with recreating in the game. For example if I know Jake Roberts circa 1984 was part of a storyline but I am using the storyline with someone else later on, I at least have a good feel for how the character should act and what the purpose of the storyline was. Not sure if that makes sense but the bottom line is that I enjoy how you do the storylines!

This mod's probably the best mod I've encounters, however, there's one thing that kind of bothers me. I'm just wondering if it's a TEW thing, though.

The promotions rarely dip into the workers that are unemployed, instead they sign workers in other promotions. I don't think I've ever seen a new worker added to the game picked up by an exisiting promotion. I'm running ICW and I end up prefering new workers or unemployed wrestlers if I need to pick up an extra body or two. Unfortunately I see wrestlers like Ric Flair, or Ted DiBiase, or Terry Gordy unemployed and unsigned, and I can't pick them up because they're too big for my promotion.

Does anyone that play with this mod a lot have any solutions?

I've seen new workers get signed quite frequently, however I think the fact that Mr. Baker to his credit keeps stats very low makes a lot of workers not very attractive to the promotions.

As for guys like Flair and Gordy, unfortunately I think this is one of the major problems Adam Ryland likes to add to his games which to me has always been a huge pain in the butt. Very popular workers don't want to sign with a promotion they think is beneath them, yet when there are no huge promotions the best workers end up unemployed and refusing to work for anyone. I've never seen a real solution to this problem unfortunately but you could always play around with lowering some overness and just see how it plays out.

You're right, BurningHamster. Unless a worker is on hiatus, I would think they would work anywhere (or at least for the most prestigious company in his area) instead of remaining unemployed. Let's hope this changes a bit for the next TEW game.

I've PMed Ghost about this as well, but wondered if anyone here could figure this out. I'm running the cage match blowoff storyline, and part 9 is:

I thought about that one, but it doesn't seem to quite fit. I'll probably run it anyways. I guess this is what I get for trying to be WWA all the time.

For those interested: Instead of mucking up Adam's TEW hype in the '08 section of the forum, I thought I would throw out there that 'pre-work' is being done on the existing data to bring it up to shape for TEW08.

To quote Captain Beefheart, our intentions are to make this years Death of the Territories mod the 'Best Batch Yet'.

* Long-term games will be more enjoyable, as the New Workers file will be much more comprehensive - and properly scaled with the rest of the game world.

* More diverse storylines and angles that follow the same quality standards that previous DOTT versions have brought to the table.

* Nagging hiccups in last years version will be smoothed over. For example, Ric Flair will now stay employed!

* Game areas such as Mexico will be better represented.

You have made me a very happy gamer!! DOTT is the best mod on any game I have ever played. There I said it :)

Some things I would LOVE to see in '08

** Pushing the starting date back a few years...maybe to 1980. I'd love to see the rise of some of the big stars and have the territory "era" last just a little longer in game :) Maybe WWF and AWA will stay in business a few extra years :)

** I've always thought the Von Erichs should have Lifetime contracts with WCCW..just my opinion. It wouldn't make sense for Fritz to not want to sign one of his songs to a renewed deal. With the new Owner Goals enhancement, though, this may not even be a factor. So forget I said anything :)

** Maybe (with a pushed back start date) start the bigger companies off as Regional instead of Cult...

Seriously, those are all the suggestions I could come up with after playing the mod nonstop. That's how tight this game is!

Can't wait, D Boon!

EDIT: I attempted a little side game with CWA in Memphis and got the note that the matches were too intense for the crowd. I tried to lower the intensity but Jerry Jarrett wouldn't let me. I only played one week as them thus far so I don't know how that will shake out. They might need to be monkeyed with.

Basically, we re-scaled the popularity levels of the Cult promotions within DOTT, giving them a slightly higher status, meaning that Flair has more chance of staying within their grasp. Though, we can only do so much without bumping the Cults up *too* much. :)

In the last test that was ran, he left MACW in early '85, took a year out (like I said .. only so much we can do, heh) before joining AGPW in Spring of '86. By October, AWA (now National) came-a-knockin', and he spent 2 1/2 years there. He then travelled to Japan, performing for both AJPW and NJPW until the turn of 1990. At this point it was Calgary Stampede (National status) who tabled an offer he couldn't refuse, where he's currently involved in a program with Bret Hart. :)

Needless to say, we're pretty pleased with recent tests, but there's still a few issues outstanding that we're looking into at present.

For the first time since, like, EWR, I'm getting the itch to try out a game as WWF, maybe make a light-heavyweight title a big part of the product as far back as the 1980's and see how history plays out with that.

Hey I found a few errors you might want to correct.

1) The response angle where a tag team does an interview and accepts a challenge is set up to create an advanced booking. Unfortunately it sets the match up as : Team1A & Team1B vs Team2A & Announcer. (Roadwarriors vs Scott Steiner & Gorilla Monsoon for example.)

2) One of the tournament angles, the 8 man not intended for one day, has one of the matches being something like "blank as side 1 and blank as side 2 with side 5 winning." As I'm writing this it occurs to me this may be intentional, but I don't think it was.

3) A lot of workers have the semi-active wrestler option set in their profiles even at a young age.

4) Gorilla Monsoon should have a lifetime contract with the WWF. When Vince McMahon took over the WWF from his father, he bought out Monsoon's share of the company. Part of the transaction was a guaranteed job for life.

My burning question about the 08 version of DOTT. Will Little Fiji's Looks rating be properly re-rated to reflect reality(You know as in, her not beng the hottest thing ever on the planet), or continue to reflect D. Boons schoolboy crush on her?

Sure. That's no problem.

Because Col. Ninchotka has replaced her as the 'hottest thing ever'!

You're an excellent mod maker, but also a wise man. :)

Traitor! Communist dog!

BTW... I don't suppose there is any way we can have the GLOW girls debut in '86 this time around?

Hmmm... as much as it would pain me (simply because I like the annoyance factor - and Ninotchka), a proper starting date for G.L.O.W. is very likely.

We'll see. :)

Waaaah? Reallllly?

I was just throwing that one out there for traditions sake (since I think I've asked for every version of DOTT yet).

I am shocked... shocked I say!

Would you possibly be telling us when the new DOTT will be set?

I am with you :)

I am so attached to this mod I won't even buy the new game until it is released. I just can't play TEW any other way.

As it currently stands, the initial data will feature either an April or May of '83 starting date. There are several valid reasons for this, but one of the bigger ones is that I like the irony that while the current mods tend to reflect whenever the game is released - and Adam's CV jumps ahead at regular intervals with each game release, D.O.T.T. is stuck in the same period.

Fits the whole nostalgia thing. :)

Testing will reveal if differing start date releases will be possible. If the game handles the territorial era better (as it appears it might), I would love to eventually release data sets with differing start dates:

* Mid 1970s would be fun - just to have a rookie Flair, Steamboat, etc. - and being able to book The Sheik while still in his heyday...
* Mid 1981 would be great, as there was so much interesting stuff going around at that time...
* December 1982 for the start of the Freebirds vs. Von Erich War...
* February 1984 for Hulkamania and the entire build-up towards the first Wrestlemania.

But we'll see how everything goes before committing to such an undertaking.

Would love to play the mid 70s and 81 mods. They sound exciting.

And anything coming from you is quality.
