I think these have all been adjusted to the proper GIF formate per Adam's Request. Could someone let me know if this works right?

He chose to give it a white matte when he saved it. It may look like it's better, but unfortunately it really isn't much better. Once you put the matted gif over the background of a color other than the color of the matte, you can see the problems with this option.
Damn I actually didn't notice I did.....that's what I get for messing around with PS in the middle of the night.

Who are the offical artists besides Steve?
I've taken the option that unless the artists decide to announce who they are, I'm not naming them until the game comes out. I don't particularly want people badgering them for "inside information" (which they don't have anyway, but that's not stopped people in the past!).

I tried this out, http://www.e-frontier.com/article/articleview/916/1/597/, top one, and it gave me a transparent .PNG. Could be worth a shot. If that doesn't work I'm just blaming it on Poser 6.
I think that might have done the trick.
Here's the two .png's for my latest render. Juding by the photobucket preview images, the white stroke seems to be gone, but I'm not sure for definite.

I've just converted them to .gif and they look fine now so I think you've got it sorted! If you're still having trouble during the conversion process using Paint Shop Pro 7, download GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) and use that to convert the .png to .gif. (that's what I used to convert yours)

There's no limit on how many artists could eventually be involved in the game, if someone is good enough then I'll almost certainly invite them in. With your particular characters, they're getting better each time, but they're still slightly below the quality level that I'm looking for.

What models are you using machinesxe? I notice there are no eyebrows, and was wondering if this was on purpose (never know), or if your having a problem with the textures.
I'm not sure why, but the textures look almost nonexistant (although I do see hair on the chest when you put it there and such).
The reason I ask, is because the facial expressions, the pose's, just about everything outside of what I asked, is awesome...
The Eyelash's being out of focus seems to make me wonder if your not just exporting images without rendering them. Also there is render adjustmants (depending on what program your using) that will make them better quality.
Look at what happens when I add just a small bit of color to one of your renders:
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l49/djthefunkychris/machinesxwork.jpg
Like I said, the pose's, the expressions, and the characters in general are actually done alot better, in fact I would venture to say they are superior to alot of work in here. You have a good imagination, and an eye for detail in facial expressions for sure.

Excellent. Still not convinced the .gifs are converting properly, but I'll download GIMP and give it a go tomorrow or tuesday. As long as the .pngs are in order now, I can live with that.

I think for that one I used a texture for m3, I am unsure if I am doing it right. I use DAZ for these. I also use Apollo figure. The Apollo Figure is used whenever you see chest hair. I dont seem to have any texture that have eye brow hair and facial hair. I am not sure in how to use those. Any tips would be great.

Darn, I don't use Daz at all. I tried a LONG time ago, but it just didn't seem easy to do what I wanted at the time.
Well, anyways, you have to look into the materials, whereever that is. Make sure that all area's are tied into the right textures, and......
Make sure your using the right texture with the right models. Alot of your models seem to have the base color the model comes with instead of Matted poses (where in the pose room, a mat file rectifies that for you). You can easily change the default color's to whatever you want (Ussually white when using good textures). I really don't know exactly where everything is located on DAZ Though, or I would give you a step by step.
I'm sure there has to be some txt. notes and help files for the program though. You will probably want to go over the texture area's the most. Your posing and manipulation of the dials are not in need of any help, just the texture parts (and rendering should be upped, it looks like your using the standard rendering mechanics). There should be some rendering options somewhere, hopefully as easy as Poser, where you can just click over from default (fast) to studio or professional, or whatever it might be called (slow).
Hopefully someone in here will notice your problems and help you out with them, because to be honest, I'm impressed with your characters.

Clarity, a couple of points on that last batch:
The left arm on "KlingonBody.gif" seems to have gone wrong, it cuts across his chest and the wrist appears to be doubled up the wrong way?
The guy right underneath him, "lifeBody.gif"....he appears to have five fingers and no thumb on his right hand?

Just move the thumb joint to a more natural position:)
I've noticed the arms on some of yours looking a bit odd as well. I'm going to guess that alot of the work you do is using the mouse to move the body how you want it? If I'm correct, try using the dials more often, and use body limits (it keeps that "unnatural" look from happening ussually).
I've spent alot of time on poser over the years, and I can tell you, if your using the mouse to adjust your figure, your doing an awesome job (that goes for anyone)... It's hard to keep the right tool for the right movement, and have the patience to correct goof ups (as the goofup's alot of time twist the arm completely around, which is what some of the render's seem to have happen to them).
For the most part though, Clarity and Showtime's render's are awesome, and Taker's and Vbigg's are just off the chain (Just looking at this page).
I still say Machinesx is not rendering to the fullest of the programs ability yet, although it's miles above what he was doing. I think his would stand out alot more if the render's were done better... Something I can't really help with because of not being familiar with Daz.

I think i know why one of the arms looks a bit un-natural.. I think i have installed a morph which has overlapped part of the muscular morphs i use. So his left arm doesn't morph with the rest of his body. I countered it with the use of another morph but they still look a bit iffy sometimes.
As for Machinesxe's pictures.. They have improved but i can think of two things straight away to make them better.
1) Always use a texture on the skin.. Makes the model look SOOOO much better.
2) If your using Daz, go into the surface tab, select M3 and head down to the bottom of the advanced tab. Make sure thats set to skin for people and matte for clothing. Should stop his people from looking so plasticy

Good work all round guys. Hopefully I can get some time nearer the weekend to get some more stuff done, this hasn't been a very productive last week or so for yours truly.
J Silver, I've got a couple of renders on Page 17 that I seem to have either oversaved or not saved. Any chance you can convert them to .gif and do whatever you did for the Mike Watson bodyshot to get rid of the white stroke?

Just thought I would throw this up here for the DAZ studio user's. Looks like version 1.5 has just been released today. I'm at work so I don't have access to the readme to find out what's been updated.

On that note, is there anything that is missing for this, or are all the bases being covered pretty much? I seen Taker say something on having younger guys, but I haven't seen any other special things at all... outside of the formats and height's etc..
I quoted Adam, but this is really for anyone here in the render thread, Adam's post just seemed like he might have been happy to see something different...which I was just thinking about a few minutes before reading it..."What would inspire me to get into the MMA render thread". I think what I'm looking for is possibly some kind of challenge (not saying I would be able to overcome the challenge, but it would certainly make it fun to try).

Your lighting setup in your renders is absolutely awesome (like a hotdog? :) )
Just wondering if you would be willing to share the secrets?
VBigB
04-12-2007, 10:03 AM
mmm hotdogs :).
Anyway, I've been asked about this a couple of times by different people so I guess I'll just post what I sent SadisticBlessings a few weeks ago.
Well as promised here are some screenshots of the lighting setup I used for Kate Capsize. I actually saved the lights as a preset and can send you it if you have an email address. Otherwise this will have to do.
Mainly I keep things simple but the overall look is due to both the lights and the skin shader so I took pics of all those setting. Now I do have pwsurface so certain settings like ambient occlusion and specular softness you won't have.
I did notice that I had moved the figure, she is at:
xTrans 0
yTrans 7.48
zTrans 0
Setup: (hopefully this is all readable)
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p65/VBigB/setup1.jpg
Spotlight1 is the main shadow casting light (locatated just to the left of camera1):
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...spotlight1.jpg
Spotlight2 is just for backlighting (located directly across from camera1 behind the figure):
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...spotlight2.jpg
Distantlight1 is at about 30% intensity and is fill lighting (pointed in the direction shown in the first pic):
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...tantlight1.jpg
And the settings for her skin:
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...kinshader1.jpg
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...kinshader2.jpg
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...kinshader3.jpg
Hope that helps a bit and isn't confusing. I'm not always the best at explaining these things.
Basically I do my lighting from scratch each time but the principle is the same. For these portrait pics I always use 3 lights. I change the lighting color to compliment the skin tone and I do a lot of adjustments in the materials panel on the skin material zones.
Anyway for DAZ users if you want to see exactly what I did for a particular render, I can save a light preset and send it (although not until I get home next weekend).

Alright guys, I have a couple of questions. I downloaded Daz, and I have the Michael 3.0 and Victoria models. What else do you advise me getting? Also, are there any good tutorials out there for getting clothing like you guys have styled them in here?
There are wireframe textures that you can get by going to DAZ3d and finding your models link. Once there, toward the bottum of the page he ussually has a free texture template in wireframe (not really a texture, just a guide). Also one should come with all models, even if it's not a high rezz one.
You can use the MAP (Wireframe texture) as a guide to just draw on clothes, and copy paste onto it your favorite texture's (They should look somewhat real on the texture, like a really good photo of leather, where the cracks and such are visable as well).
Also, The body/catsuits are really good, because you can do alot with them. You can add your own textures by copying the originals, and just making your own design for them... Also, you can use make some for transmaps.
Transmaps are used to make parts of a model (figure/prop) visibility (or rather the lack of). They are made in black and white, and the darker it is, the less visible it will be (more see through). You can use this to take off complete parts..
For example, you can use it to create shorts out of your bodysuit, or a shirt, etc. By just darkening out the arms and the legs (Fully black). Then add the transmap to your materials area, so you can apply it.
There should be tutorals that come with DAZ, if not, I think he has alot of free tutorals on the websight.
For example, someone that is comfortable with a text editor could probably make a full bodysuit without any problems in a matter of a half an hour (or so). Someone with no knowledge is supposed to be able to do it in a few hours as well.
I'm sure the other guys around here will help you with DAZ though, they did wonder's for machinesx in this thread. I'm still using Poser5, and am still quite unfamiliar with DAZ, but I do like that it can read items from everywhere on my computer. Big pluss there.

The facial hair in that render is part of the millennium beard map pack for Michael 2... I'm not sure whether Michael 3 or Apollo have an alternative to this? Anyway, it's just a case of applying the texture and using the beard morph dials that come with the head/body morph pack. Other than that, I use the smudge brush in paintshop pro to add to the edges to make it look more hair-like.

There is a millenium beard pack for M3, but it's currently not cheap. I beleive I got it back at one of DAZ's sales in November. Anyway machinesxe here is the link so you can check it out for yourself.
http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/shop/itemdetails/-/?item=1921
There is also this pack which may be a better deal if you have David and the Freak (and plan on using them).

As far as free beards I don't know of any (but I haven't really looked).
djthefunkchris

Looks like they just remapped the M3 beards to fit the other models... Shouldn't be that hard to do yourself, because most their models are virtually the same (same, as in there head is exactly this size compared to the body, and their eye/ear/nose/mouth coordinates as opposed to each other). Some are bigger, smaller...
Michael I think has a natural setting of around 6'3", and David is much shorter, something like 5'4" (Probably for making your shrimpy wimpy dudes, lol, JK). The Freak is probably around 6'6" (I'm guessing, don't have him) to 7' tall.
Bassically, what I'm saying is you can probably play with the x/y/z size/location coordinates (on your dials), and fit them properly onto the other models.... Heck, you can probably put them on Vicky/stephanie as well.
I've found most clothes that are really conformable (meaning have alot of the same geometries as the millenium people), will fit just about any of them, with just a few tweaks of the dial... Especially "Prop" types, like Hair, guns, poles, etc.

Yep, works well with just about any hair prop as well, once you get used to doing it. I wasn't really thinking when I posted the second link...I just did a quick look around for beards when I was on a coffee break.

I don't know what it is about it I don't like, the skin looks realistic, the bodyshape is definately on spot, it might be that little weird thing on his upper lip, or the hair, or just the facial shape period, not sure, but something sure makes me think "grape ape" when I look at him, lol.

Agreed, Machinesex, those are the first two you've done that I've looked at thought would make it into the game. If you can continue or improve that sort of quality, I'm definitely interested in inviting you into the team.
Only one suggestion to make, and that's that the first guy's fists seem small for his body, it's something I noticed with a few of your renders previously.
Thank you Adam, I will continue to try and improve as I hope to land a spot and get some of my work used for this game.

Steve,
I noticed that you have your figures are facing sideways. I understand from adams post not to do renders from angles? I was trying to keep mine face on due to that. From what you are suppling I must have miss understood what he ment with that. Can you just confirm that I can do them from different sides and what not just not from a lower and higher view?
Okay enough sucking up and asking questions here is my newest render in PNG . I will put up the GIFs later.

The key points are that they need to be looking at the camera, and there should be no tilt on the north\south axis. It's because these pictures will be used on the "vs." screen to show who is fighting, and if you had the north\south axis changed, it would alter the effect of them standing next to each other.

J Silver, is there any way you can re-do the second guy down that you posted? He looks really good (especially the shorts, which are awesome), but the pose just won't work in the game at all, especially with him disappearing off to the left.

As mentioned in the guidelines:
4. The pictures don't necessarily have to be 'face on' with the camera as some MMA promo shots are from the side with the guy looking at the camera.
I planned ahead and realised that some poses wont 'fit' into the dimensions and so you'll have elbows and the like being 'cut off'. So if you have the guy standing sideways on but still looking at the camera then it's still ok. :)

I might be wrong but it looks like you pasted the render of the two guys onto the picture of the mat and as a result they look like they're floating.
Tell-tale signs are the shadows:
1. There are no shadows beneath the two guys.
2. It looks like you've got light beaming directly down onto the mat but the guy on top has got a shadow on his left arm and across his stomach/chest.
Also, it might just be the angle i'm looking at it but the top guy appears to have his left foot inside the bottom guy's knee, plus the top guy's shorts look so bright they must be radioactive. ;)

If anyone's looking for inspiration have a look here (http://www.cagerage.tv/fightcards.htm#Abdul mohammed) and scroll down to see the fighters of Cage Rage (a British MMA promotion), it's got a good range of colours, shapes and sizes.
For any fellow Brits who don't know much about/have never seen MMA in action you can see Cage Rage 21: Judgement Day this Saturday between 9pm and 11pm on Sky Sports. Gary Turner vs Bob Sapp!

Well, I have done similar stuff without using "Freak" (I don't have him). So I thought he might have done the same. (I don't even have the Michael 3 morphs, just the base which is free, waiting for them to be $1.99, lol).
But I do stuff like that all the time with Michael 2, and even Poser 4 models.
Example, Michael2:

Even though Michael, David and Freak are basically the same uni-mesh design they all look and behave differently, 9.9 times out of 10 I can look at a render and know straight away which base model was used. Obviously The Freak is the easiest to identify because he looks, well, freaky! :D

I was actually hoping it was the Freak... I haven't seen anything at all by it, except for the normal stuff you see when 'Shopping" around.
Taker, that's very true. I can tell the difference between M1 and M2 the same way, it's just his face looked so much like the other one's, that I thought there was a possibility someone did something similar to what I used to do....
For example, those models I made the Hulk with (if you seen them) were all poser4 models, and for what was available back then (No Dazstudio, No Michael, or I didn't know of him), I didn't have a choice but to mess with those coordinates (Alot).
The render's by Azn remind me alot of what I used to do back then. I couldn't peel myself away from it, and that didn't always go over well with my wife, lol.
The good thing is, I know how to make morph targets and other "didly" stuff (Waves, use of magnets properly), from all that messing around. Funny how a couple of years can mess up your rhythm though, but these render threads (All of them) really help bring the desire to play around back again.

OK, thanks for letting me know.
sebsplex, are you still planning to do Raul Hughes, Buddy Garner, etc? The reason I'm checking is that I'm actually thinking of including a historical scenario with WMMA in which the TEW guys would be back in their MMA prime, and therefore active characters.
One final note - if anyone feels like giving it a shot, the one area that hasn't been addressed anywhere is that of owners \ bookers. Off the top of my head I'd guess that about 15 would be needed for the default database (there isn't going to be 15 promotions, but it's better to have some unemployed owners waiting in the wings ready to do take-overs, etc). They'd be exactly the same dimensions and requirements as fighters (i.e. waist-up, facing the camera), just with suits \ business attire.

Sure. I've got Garner saved, obviously it'll need to re-rendered to the right size and I'll have to redo the postwork. I did make a rough start on Hughes, so he'd be done next, then I guess I'll go through the others as I go.

And no, it's not dynamic. The texture is stretched so that the jacket can keep level with the wrists and wrap around the elbow without cutting through Michaels elbow. The mesh has to expand to do that, thus the stretched texture.

Good stuff guys, as always.
At the moment, it looks like I'll be starting to put together the database around the start of June. I'll give another update around then, but I'm just giving advanced warning that that will be the time when I'm going to need everything that's been done so far converted to the correct format. The way VBigB has done it by putting them all in photobucket would be the best way, as that means I'm not going to miss any.

Daz Studio is free, but you still have to pay for most of the add-ons such as clothes and morphs, which you'll need to make these renders. I never spent a fortune on extra stuff, but it's possible to do more with less a lot of times, and tweek your renders in post production or by changing surfaces for things before you render them and what not. Certainly the people on this board are great at giving advice and helping out any way they can, so if there's something you can't figure out, mostly somebody's willing to lend you a helping hand.
You can download Daz|Studio right here: http://www.daz3d.com

Hi,
I'm starting to put together the first incarnation of the database as of next week. What I'd like to request is that everybody who has become an official artist for the project send me the fighters they've done so far that they want to submit for inclusion.
I'd like them to be sent to my hotmail account, zipped, and be in the correct formats. If you can't get them in the correct format, please send them in PNG format so that I can arrange the conversion process.
I know some people have put them in photobucket already, but I'd really like everything to go via hotmail - the reason is that I want to be absolutely sure that I've got a record of who has sent what \ which picture belongs to which artist, and keeping an e-mail record is probably the easiest way to do it.
Just to be clear, this is not the deadline for all submissions, that's not going to be for a long while yet! I'm asking for what you've done so far because I like to start the database early and build it gradually over time.
Thanks!

EDIT: Out of curiosity, what's that on the guy-wearing-yellow's head? :p

I'm guessing it's a birth mark. Think Gorbechoff.

Indeed that is a birth mark - for added uniqueness:)
Thanks for the kind words.

Nice work guys. For those of you who are official renderers and have already sent their work over, if you could send over any new stuff you do occasionally, that'd be great.

taker, this guy has bigger breasts then my wife - and thats saying something! I love the lighting on this guy though, gives it a kind of gritty, fight club feel to it.
Thought i should comment on the standard of pics in here in general. J Silver's stuff especially stands out as being really good.
I dont watch MMA. But i will probably try the demo just to see how it plays out and also so i can check out the full collection of renders. Keep up the good work fellas.

Tank Abbott's (http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d127/bigdayyd6570/TankAbbott350.jpg) got big man boobs, I wouldn't tell him that though. :D
What's happened to you trying your hand at renders anyway? You only did one for this thread way back when.

I just don't have the time to get good at rendering at the moment mate. Plus moneys a bit scarce, so getting the shorts and things like that for poser is out of the question. I have a lil' project im working on for TEW07, which should be done in a month or two and then im updating the sci-fi thing. Once that is out the way i may well turn my atention to wrespi2. But to be honest you guys on here are just streets ahead when it comes to rendering. I'd rather sink my time into playing X-Box to avoid any 20-2 humpings in iron man matches like you gave me last time! I still like to swing by and check out what you guys are doing from time to time though and i have to admit, the standard has improved dramatically.

It's been a little while since I contributed to the cause recently, so here's another render in .png format.

Gah, curse not being able to smudge outside of the original render whilst using a transparent background... the hair would look much better and I could cover the annoying hole in the right hand glove... something I couldn't see originally on the black background. Oh well.

Why can't you smudge outside of the original render?

Well I can, but whenver the I view the .png outside of paint shop, the transparent bg seems to override any alterations. I works on any details not outside of the render, like smoothing the wristbands to the gloves and adding a little edge to the goatee... I haven't been able to find away around this so far.

The above shows the edits made in paint shop, you can see the difference with the hair.

Have you tried using GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/)? (it's free)
