Unfortunately those last renders I posted in Jpeg format, and because of a lack of a transparent background...they cant be used as WMMA renders. But making them definately did help with my render design and understanding how DAZ works :D
Heres my first fully WMMA compatible rendering, BERTHA!!

Heres my first fully WMMA compatible rendering, BERTHA!!
Quick steps for you that'll improve her look so she doesn't look so grey skinned:
1. Make sure you've got the Surfaces tab turned on: View > Tabs > Surfaces
2. In the Surfaces tab, highlight all the layers from "1_lip" down to "3_skinleg".
3. Change the Colour|Diffuse to pure white (255,255,255).
That's it!

These are way better than what I came up with when I was first starting. Just one little tip...the highlights on the second last one look a little plastic. If you change the lighting model to "skin" they should look a little better.
On the surfaces tab highlight the skin surfaces. Sroll down the "Advanced" surface tab and near the bottom there should be 5 choices in a drop down list (skin, matte, plastic, plastic (glossy), metalic, and metalic (glossy)).
Hopefully thats correct as I'm going completely by memory.
Have you been playing around much with lighting yet? While your renders are shaded I don't see much in the way of shadow.
Do you have any other coloring tips? Maybe more number combinations for different skin tones?
I adjust the color of lights and the change the diffuse color and specular color (as well as some advanced settings I get from the pwsurface plugin). Really I use a lot of trial and error. I can't really give you many tips until I get home next weekend and can actually open the tools to have a look.

I thought all the characters for the game where already chosen and these were just optional custom renders we were doing now? Owell....if people don't like the tats don't use him. I made him for my personal universe and his tattoos are also symbolic of his personality type.

i don't know if anyone is taking request for renders yet, but if they are i have a request for the moment. i need a full body render or the following photo (done in the proper format).
the body should be well muscled, about a middleweight in size, with taped fists and desert camouflage trunks, and perhaps a couple of scars. his right arm should have a Navy SEAL tattoo.
any help would be appreciated, as i suck royally when it comes to doing these thing myself.
(in case anyone wonders, that is a head shot of Edward Norton from American History X, and is the photo i use in TEW for a character i made that was an MMA competitor before becoming a pro wrestler.)

When I originally sent them to Adam they were already GIFs, but up here at school I'm afraid my selection software-wise is pretty weak. Thinking about it now, I may have forgotten to send them altogether.
Regardless, good to know you guys approve of them! Sorry they didn't make it into the default data, but better late than never! :D

I'm feeling lasy so I'll just quote sebsplex from the TEW render thread:
Well I use Poser for rendering, but several others here use DAZ Studio which is free and whilst not my personal preference, can and is used to great effect by others here.
Check out this post as it should explain this a little more...
http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum...&postcount=682
As for buying things, that's really down to personal preference, but the first step is getting a figure like Michael 3 (I think this is still downloadable for free from DAZ's site http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/default/default/-/? ),getting the morphs for it (so you can alter the face and body) a good skin texture and then slowly go about getting additional stuff for it, such as more hair props, clothing sets, etc. You can get quite a few things for free, but invitably some of the better things cost.
For walk thrus, there really is no substitute for experimenting and there's no shortcut to becoming 'good' at it. It takes a little effort and everyone forms there own style in time anyway. There are a few tutorials around the net suc as on renderosity.com, but ultimately like everyone else here who renders, you will pretty much suck at first and have to practice to get better. If you get stuck, there are normally people around here who will offer advice and tips.
Personally I use Daz studio and I basically learned it on my own by playing around with it and going through various tutorials on the web. I do have some experience with Poser as well but I navigate much faster around Daz.

This is my first attempt at a render. I started to learn to use DAZ today, so i'm still a newbie with tons to learn so don't be so hard on me :)
Advice from the pros is welcome.
Once i learn a bit more, i plan on creating a set of 30 or so new fighters that will release as an add-on database to be used with the default game data. Probably will create a new company based in the East of Europe and will fill it with ex-military fighters.

I agree with Trell, for a first attempt thats not bad. Just a tip to prevent the white outline when you convert to gif:
1) Set your background color to black in Daz studio (if you don't know how, shoot me a PM) and render as png file.
2) Convert the file in another image editing program such as gimp, photoshop or PSP. (you may have done this but if you didn't have a black background in DAZ, the image editing program will have a hell of a time with the white semi-transparent pixels)
Edit: You can't currently see the white outline but beleive me it will show up against a dark background ala the cage background in game. I just checked your pic.

There are a few scattered about, but the truth is that learning to use Daz is something that's done by just messing around with it. All the sliders and percentages look intimidating at first, but once you understand how the XYZ rotational axis works it's actually very intuitive.
There's a stock background and a female fairy figure that comes with Daz, mess around with it for a while and you'll see it's actually very simple once you get past the interface.
The biggest issue is the price tag on a lot of the content. In addition to the free Michael 3 model you'll at the very least need the Head & Body Morphs ($30), along with some skin textures and hair and clothing props. If you can get past those, actually understanding how to create renders is fairly straightforward. The only tricky part from there on out is lighting, and from all the work I've looked at since I've started it's the big difference between good stuff and great stuff.
[Icy]: I dig your renders, and have a feeling your work easily could've made it into the game if you'd been here sooner! Your proportions and sense of character are pretty good, so I really can't give you any tips there aside from keeping on doing what you're doing. You have pretty high standards for someone who is just starting out, and that's always a plus! :D
Try to set up a black background for them, like VBigB said. Just open photoshop or whatever editing program you're using, set it up as matte black picture, then use 'import background' on the render settings screen to use it as a backdrop; after you render, it'll still look like a normal .png image but you'll remove those white lines.
The only other tip I could give you is to look into a new texture for eyes, as the ones you're using are a bit dulled compared to some of the content Daz offers. I've had great results with the eyes from the Men of the Year (http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/shop/itemdetails/-/?item=4590) pack, if you're ever in the market for new skin textures as well. Otherwise, keep up the good work dude!

Thank a lot for your comments. I have created graphic mods for a lot of text sims (OOTP, FOF, BBCF, TCB, DDSPB, DDSCB, etc) but never tried to work on renders until now, as 3D modeling looked too intimidating to work with, but after reading here about DAZ, i decided to download it and to start to play with it, and I ust admit i'm really impressed with the software as you can create awesome models without ant experience in 3D modeling (i must say i have experience on graphical design, mainly with photoshop, as i work as web developer).
To those asking, there is no tutorial that I have found, but look what i did in 2 days playing with DAZ studio. Download it, it's for free, download also Michael 3.0 model that is free too, play for hours with it, learning to use the different body and face morphs, and if you like it, start to purchase skin textures and different hair styles to have more variety. Searching around you can find a lot of free stuff for DAZ too.

Thanks, i just sent a PM to VBigB asking about how to setup the black background, but you just explained it perfectly, will render again my figures using it to avoid the borders creating the transparent gifs.
The thing that is taking me more time to learn is applying the textures, like for example the tattoos. What i do now is to paint the tattoos directly over the skin textures in photoshop, then use the texture in DAZ and then see if it's correctly positioned. I'm sure there must be another way to just create the tattoo in photoshop and them import it in DAZ to place it where you want it instead of trial and error painting over the skin textures.

Actually there is a much simpler meathod (it's just one simple option), but I can't give directions without opening DAZ and I'm still at work. But in the end they both accomplish the same thing :D .

They look pretty cool especially for first go. I really like the first and the third ones, i wish i could make renders like that but i haven't got a clue what to download to do it. I have Daz studio on my computer but it seems hard to find the right things to download to get them to work with it. I downloaded clothes that appear in the DAZ studio but dont show up on the model and it appears you have to pay to get anything good not that i would know how to use it anyways. Rant over.

Noah Green is a very dangerous Middleweight who comes from a wrestling background and tends to ground and pound his opponents into submission. He also possesses excellent guillotine chokes, rear naked chokes, and arm bar abilities. He is not know for being well versed in Jiu-jitsu submissions. He is defined by great wrestling, great cardio, and great dedication.

Takama is a good competitor. Takama is primarily a BJJ fighter who likes to finish fights from his back. He has an extremely active guard... always trying to land a submission. His stand-up technique and speed are quite decent, but he doesn't possess enough power to be a real threat.

Searching through this thread, it seems like there were quite a bit of renders (and good one's at that) that did not end up being added to the final product. Is anyone aware of the reason why? Anyone interested in working through the pages and identifying all of the guys that didn't make it? (doubt it)

I am new to Daz Studio and rendering in general, so I present to you my first unofficial fighter render. Constructive criticism and suggestions are welcomed and encouraged. All work was done in Daz Studio. She isn't as pretty as VBigB's work who makes some superb works of art. PNGs are so nice and clean, so that is why I am posting my first render as a PNG for input more than anything. Plus I'm not fully happy with her yet. By the way, what render settings do folks use, like for the pixel size? Perhaps I'm misunderstanding it, but I select "custom" and put 440x610; however, the resulting PNG ends up about 100x100 pixels smaller, so I had to load this into Photoshop and resize/crop it to 440x610 which seems an unnecessary hassle.
Lookin' good for your first render, much better than my first one was! :)
With regards to the pixel sizes, it's probably because you're rendering in the Active Viewport. To fix that go to Render > Render Settings and where it says "Render To:" select the "New Window" option.

I have tweaked my original render, and created four additional renders. Me thinks I shall make about 10 or 20 and then release as a pack in GIF format, perhaps with fighter profiles to import into your databases too.

Hey hey hey - Merry Christmas folks! As it just recently became Christmas here in Philly, I figured I'd bring along some good tidings to the forum.
Here's a preview of the fighters I'm preparing for WMMA 1.2 - in my opinion, they're much better than anything I've put out thus far. Only two being previewed, though I'd expect maybe a dozen of my guys in the next release. Special thanks to Undertaker666 on these for his guidance. Hope you enjoy! :D

It would be great if someone were to make an expansion using some of these new renders, much like Clarity's New Worker Packs. Renders are great and all, but being able to plug them into my game as new fighters with stats and records is a phenomenal addition to the game.

All of these models are posed in Poser or Daz correct? Where are the models created? Are they done on 3d Max, or Lightwave? Then Posed in Daz?
That's what I want to know, where are the models created?

I would imagine 3D modeling software, yes. Though for my renders I use models I've found online. Daz3d.com (http://www.daz3d.com) has Michael 3 for free, and you can buy other models like Victoria 4 that I use as the base for my renders. Ya can probably google to find freebies around.

Well, this thread is technically more geared towards the artists whose work is already going into the game. I can't speak for the others, but at least in my case all of the renders I'm doing will be included in future patches of the "official" WMMA-verse. If we were all releasing expansions like Clarity nobody would be adding to the "real" data, and Adam would be stuck with the same 350 fighters forever! :p
Right now I've got a dozen guys going into the next patch, and could maybe double that in a couple weeks. So don't worry, you'll get them eventually!
Ah, why not? Here's a couple more I finished up recently...

They are they so the guys that make them can use them in their game.
Clarity has a thread in which he allows you to download them and use them in your game. Also I think theres an official patch coming out soon where I imagine a lot of these pictures will be used.

I was posting mine to show off my work since I'm new to rendering. I had planned to release mine as standalone packs like Clarity does, but I emailed Adam with my first batch of 20 female renders for inclusion in the official database. He hasn't emailed me back confirming if he will use them, so I don't know yet. If not, I will start my own thread in the future making my renders available for those who want them.
I've created 32 female renders so far. I hope to hit 40 by this weekend before I depart for five days of paid job training in Detroit.

I kind of like the unused renders. I usually use them to make the regenerated fighters have a different appearance, so there's more to "just showing off".

First off I would like to thank all you mods for the great work you have done! I just have a quick question for Blasphemywebleed when I use your characters in my game there is always a white background. Am I doing anything wrong or is it just the way they come out? The reason why I ask is I think you do a great job on your characters but that white background annoys me.
Trell
06-20-2008, 12:13 AM
I believe there is a white background because he has them saved as .png and they need to be converted .gifs.
Edit: I take that back, all the pics on here are .gifs, so I am out of ideas on why there are white backgrounds with his pics :)

I doubt anybody is going to spend time making renders of real fighters when the internet is full of pics of them. Plus in the Modern Warriors mod there are pics included for every fighter.

Ok here is a screen shot of what your settings should look like in Daz Studio
http://giovanni-wod.net/images/screenshotdaz1.jpg
As for installing anything listed under "poser" at renderosity: Go to your hard drive and make a Runtime folder. You can technically make this in your Daz Studios folder if you like. I just wouldn't place it in your "content" folder that way you don't get mixed up between the stuff you DLed for Daz content and the stuff you DLed for poser (which most poser content can work in Daz)

quick question, forgot how to do morphs, you mind telling me where they are in daz?
depends on which model you are using, if you are using and Daz figures then they are located in the pose catagory, if you are using Apollo, then it should be auto loaded you just have to mess with the sliders(not sure what that thing is called where they are located).

lmao,
I'm damn near close to making me a few mspaint shorts myself. Nobody really shares textures or programs to create your own textures

The only time I 'paint' anything on (which really isn't a paint in my case) is if I can't find pants, shorts, or something else that will work for my fighter.
The Unimesh figures (Victoria 3, Michael 3, David, Stephanie Petite, Hiro, Aiko 3, and the Freak) can all use the same skin textures. Skin textures such as these:
http://www.sharecg.com/v/27131/poser/MYRON---Complete-Character-for-M3!
http://www.sharecg.com/v/23216/poser/Cale-for-Michael-3
..can be edited in a graphics program to give the appearance of shorts, bodysuit, etc.
The best bet would be to find some textures that already come close to that and edit it accordingly. If you're hard up for clothing then thats the next best option. You can go to http://www.muskateergraphics.com/ and download his freebie superhero graphics to get an idea of what I'm talking about.
Here are some examples of skin textures used as tights or in lieu of pants (these are from my gallery online).
http://prophetx.deviantart.com/art/Arrow-Agent-89114158 Note the legs. Just an altered skin texture
http://prophetx.deviantart.com/art/Psynapse1-82377919 The whole outfit is just a skin texture
http://prophetx.deviantart.com/art/Night-Terror-75662028 Note the shorts. Again all skin texture edited in a graphics program.

The outside is always going to be choppy because of the compression, it looks better in the game.
