School is finally out for summer and its time for some BBCF. I have made a custom league that I will be using for my career. This league will use old style bowl tie-ins (no playoffs or GDS), and older style conferences.

I have brought back the Big East, SWC, and Big 8. Now there are 2 Tiers. Top Tier is ACC, Big East, Big 8, Big 10, Pac 10, SEC and SWC. Bottom Tier is Indep, Conf USA, MAC, Mountain West, Sun Belt and WAC. Also the Bottom Tier conferences have been realigned for better regional matchups. The biggest changes were in Conf USA and the Sun Belt. Also all conferences now have only one division and no conference championship games. I am not a fan of teams playing 14 games a season, guess its just I love the game the way it was when I grew up watching it.

The post season will be old style bowl tie-ins. I grew up loving the bowl structure. New Years day would roll around and all day you would watch the National Championship fall into place. Bowl games used to be a big accomplishment for a team. So this is how I have made it: This setup is basically like it was back in the early 90's in the bowl alliance days. Now only 36 teams will make it to the post season; which is 1/3 of the teams.

CONFERENCE MOVEMENT:

Postseaon 2008 (season 3):
Boise State to Pac-10, Arizona to WAC
The Boise State Broncos have accepted a move to the Pacific Ten
conference. This is a big promotion and should really help the
Boise State (48 prest, 24-11 overall) program. Boise State has
been conditional member of the Pac-10 in wrestling for the past
few years, but with their continued football success, the league
has decided to allow the Broncos to join the league as a full member.
Unfortunately, with this good news comes some disappointing news
to another program. The Arizona Wildcats (41 prest, 9-24 overall)
have been relegated to the WAC conference. Arizona was one of the
original members of the WAC, but left the conference in 1978
to join the Pac-10.

Season 1 (2006):
South Florida Bulls (7-4, 5-3)

Season Preview:
The South Florida Bulls are picked to finish third in the Conference USA this year. Talent wise
the Bulls are not the best team in Conference USA but they should have enough to be better
than most of the teams. This year the Bulls are playing a very easy schedule, so a winning
season should not be very hard. Prediction: 6-5

Season Review:
The Bulls finished 2006 7-4 and 5-3 in the Conference USA (tied for 4th). After getting out
to a solid 6-2 start USF dropped two of their final three, but did get a victory against
in-state rival Central Florida. The highlight of the Bulls season was the fact USF lead the
nation in Total Defense allowing only 290 yards per game. But their offense was simply horrible
throwing 26 interceptions to only 11 touchdowns. If it was not for such an impressive
defensive play this season, the Bulls would have been far below .500

2006 was a very exciting bowl season with three teams entering the post season undefeated.
Cal, Oklahoma and Georgia all were unbeaten but playing in three different bowl games. As New
Years day played out it appeared that Penn State had a outside chance at the National Title
but would need a lot of help. Read on.........

Week 4
Cotton #15 Louisville (10-2) 24, #18 Texas Tech (9-3) 19
The Cardinals jumped out to a quick lead and never looked
back. Entering the 4th quarter Louisville lead 24-3, before
the Red Raiders scored 16 unanswered with their final score
coming with only 00:41 left in the game. Louisville recovered
the onside kick then ran out the clock to win the Cotton Bowl.

Fiesta #9 Colorado (11-1) 40, #7 Auburn (9-3) 21
Colorado entered the game with only one loss (Week 4 vs
Oklahoma (42-17) but not much national respect. The Buffalos
proved they are one of the top teams in the nation by easily
defeating Auburn.

Orange #5 Penn State (12-1) 35, #3 Oklahoma (11-1) 34
With 00:59 left in the 3rd quarter Penn State trailed the
Sooners 31-17. The Nittany Lions rallied in the 4th quarter
to comeback and win the game with only 00:30 left in the 4th
quarter to win 35-34 when QB D.Mendoza completed a 2yd pass to
J.Leger. With this victory the Sooners National Championship
dreams are dashed, but Penn State has an outside chance if
Cal and Georgia both lose.

Rose #6 Wisconsin (11-1) 44, #2 Cal (11-1) 16
Another unbeaten fell today as the Badgers demolished the
Golden Bears 44-16. With the Wisconsin victory, Penn State
fans are now hoping that Georgia Will lose in the Sugar Bowl.
If so ,either Penn State or Florida State could walk away with
the National Championship.

Sugar #1 Georgia (12-0) 15, #4 Florida State (11-2) 0
Entering the game Georiga new all they had to do was win and
they would be the 2006 National Champions since former
unbeatens Cal and Oklahoma both lost earlier in the day.
The Bulldog defense shut down the Seminoles only allowing them
185 yards of total offense and no points. With this
impressive showing the Bulldogs finished off the season
SEC and National Champions.

Season 2 (2007):
South Florida Bulls (7-5, 3-5)

Season Preview:
The Bulls should be competitive in the Conference USA this season and the
alumni expect a .500 USF is projected to finish #7 in the Conference USA
this season.

The Bulls run a Vertical Passing offense and rely on TE David Collins. The
OL has some weak spots and stuggles at times. OT John Mahan is the best
option and most of the successful plays rely on his protection.

The Bulls run a 3-4 defense and rely on SS Chris Smith. Their DBs makeup
the teams top defensive unit and one that will be under a lot of pressure
this season. They have the talent to carry the defense for stretches, but
not for the entire season. Prediction: 5-6

Season Review:
The Bull finished the season 7-5 overall, but only 3-5 in the Conference
USA which left them tied for 7th place. The offense improved dramatically
from last year, under new OC Steve Cook, but still had problems putting
points on the board when they were really needed.

The offense saw the emergence Seniors (QB) John Cahill and (WR) Jacob
Schmidt who was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year.
Sophomore (HB) Earnest Gonzalez was 3rd string last season but had a
nice spring to capture the starting job and was able to rush for 1027
yards.

The Fiesta Bowl was able to put together a #1 vs #2 matchup that left many
people unhappy. Most thought #1 Notre Dame should play against #3 Florida
and their Heisman Trophy winning Runningback Roger Wood in the Sugar Bowl,
since many fans felt the Gators were better than the Pitt. Cal made it to there
second straight Rose Bowl and got to play against the undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes........

Week 4:
Orange #23 NC State (9-3) 31, #14 Nebraska (9-3) 22
The Wolfpack rolled past Nebraska on the legs of redshirt
junior running back Edward Crawford. Crawford was first team
All-ACC this year while running for 1482 yards and 17 touchdowns.
In the Orange Bowl the baffled the Cornhusker defense piling up
178 yards on 26 carries and two touchdowns.

Cotton #5 Texas (11-1) 38, #7 Auburn (10-2) 19
Junior QB John Mitchell passed for 375 yards and 5 touchdowns
as the Longhorns manhandled the Tigers all game long. Texas
entered the last week of the season #1 in both polls, before
they lost to rival Texas A&M 17-7. If not for that lose the
Longhorns could have been playing for the National Championship.

Rose #18 Cal (10-2) 38, #6 Ohio State (11-1) 31
Last season the Cal Bears entered the Rose Bowl unbeaten, but
fell to Wisconsin in a blowout. This year the Bears showed the
Buckeyes how bad it feels. Cal jumped out to a quick 24-0
lead and never looked back.

Sugar #3 Florida (12-0) 31, #4 Wisconsin (10-2) 10
The Florida Gators stepped up and showed that they should be
the National Champions as they shutdown the Wisconsin Badgers
and won the 2007 Sugar Bowl. With Pitt and Notre Dame 1&2 in
the polls the Gators have a very small chance at a split National
Championship.

Fiesta #1 Notre Dame (12-0) 20, #2 Pitt (11-1) 13
Notre Dame and Pitt entered the 4th quarter tied 10-10 before
the Panthers kicked a FG to go ahead by three. The Irish then
went on to score ten unanswered to capture the 2007 National
Championship.

Week 3:
Capital One #19 USC (10-3) 26, #9 Virginia Tech (9-3) 21

I grew up watching college football in the late 80's-mid 90's, and I loved it. Since Arlie has made such an incredible game where everything can be edited, I decided to some what recreate some of that feel from the early 90's. Since I am not trying to be %100 realistic with the conferences it allows me to turn up conference movement an see how everything will shake out. Can a.....BYU.....Navy...???... move up and compete with the big boys????

Im looking forward to seeing how the league looks 10-20-30 seasons in, and hopefully I can pull a Paterno/Bowden career and building USF from a bottom tier team, to a major conference contender and national contender.

Season 3 (2008):
South Florida Bulls (8-3, 6-2)

Season Preview:
The board of directors at USF are looking for improvement this season
by the Bulls. Many expect a top 3 finish in the Conference USA and a
strong showing against rival Central Florida.

The Bulls run a Balanced offense and rely on transfer RB Travis Smith.
The OL is a capable unit. While OT John Mahan is a nice player, the
whole group will need to improve its overall form and technique to be
successful.

The Bulls also run a 3-4 defense and rely on OLB Orlando Steinberg.
They rely on their linebackers to carry the defense. The groups of
LBs should be able to hold up against most opponents but could wear
down as the season goes on.

Season Review:
The Bulls put together a nice season finishing 8-3 overall and
6-2 in the Conference USA for a second place finish behind
Cincinnati. USF was lead by transfer running back Travis Smith
who lead the Bulls in both rushing (270 car, 1271 yards, 7 tds)
and receiving (50 rec, 618 yards, 4 tds) and was named Conference
USA Offensive Player of the Year. Tc Simmons was named the
Conference USA Coach of the Year mostly due to the conference
record turn around (3-5 to 6-2) this season.

The Bulls will have to try and rebuild at running back next since
Smith is leaving early for the NFL. It was incredible having him
this past season and we would have like to have had him around
for another season, but sometimes things do not work out perfectly.
Hopefully Travis will have an incredible career in the pros.

The '08 National Championship would either be decided in the Rose
Bowl (#1 vs #3) or in the Sugar Bowl (#2 vs #6) with the defending
National Champions riding a 23 game winning streak but only ranked
#6. Many fans of the Irish where left wondering if they might get
the short end of the stick like the Florida Gators did in '07.

Week 4:
Fiesta #4 Florida (10-2) 27, #16 Pitt (8-4) 10
2008 was a down year for the Big East. Last season the
Pitt Panthers were playing against Notre Dame for the
National Championship; this year the Panthers still won
the Big East but only managed eight wins. The Gators
were simply the better team today, out maning and outplaying
Pitt the entire game. Gators star freshman running back
John Wilkerson (1713 yds, 19tds; regular season) replaced
last years Heisman Winner Roger Wood. Wilkerson had a great
season winning the Doak Walker Award, but he only managed
68 yards on 28 carriers against the Panthers.

Cotton #17 Arkansas (10-2) 34, #7 Minnesota (10-2) 27
The Cotton Bowl was an offensive clinic as the Razorbacks
and Gophers combined for 991 yards. Arkansas was lead by
junior running back Jason Mohr who carried the ball 30
times for 200 yards. In the regular season Mohr ran for
1733 yards and 15 touchdowns. The Gophers tied the game
entering the 4th quarter (20-20) before the Hogs score two
unanswered touchdowns to seal up the victory.

Orange #14 Colorado (10-2) 30, #5 Georgia Tech (10-2) 23
Colorado racked up 496 yards, but the Buffalos were unable to
secure the victory until there was only 00:43 left in the game
when running back Matthew Blalock scored his third touchdown.

Sugar #6 Notre Dame (12-0) 34, #2 Auburn (10-2) 24
Notre Dame entered the game on a 23 game winning streak but
the national media only had the Irish ranked 6th. Looking for
some much deserved respect the Irish went out and played a
great game against the #2 Auburn Tigers. Auburn outgained the
Irish 428-377 but only managed 39 yards on the ground on 30
carries. The victory left fans wondering if Irish would get
left out of the National Title picture like the Florida Gators
did last year.

Rose #3 Ohio State (11-1) 28, #1 Washington State (10-2) 14
Both teams entered the game with dreams of National Championships
dancing in the heads. Ohio State Heisman Trophy winning QB
Russell Bowling was held to a season low 180 yards, but the
Buckeyes still managed to walk into halftime with a 20-0 lead.
The Cougars where done in by horrible play of freshman quarterback
Kevin Blue (10/25, 107 yds, 3 ints). With the victory Buckeye fans
where left waiting if it would be them, or the Irish who would
be named the 2008 National Champions.

Week 3:
Capital One #11 USC (9-3) 33, #18 Oklahoma (9-3) 26
Outback #15 Texas (10-2) 44, #8 Florida State (9-3) 23
Peach #21 Penn State (9-3) 31, #10 Tennessee (9-3) 16
Gator #20 Georgia (9-3) 48, #9 Virginia Tech (9-3) 45

Week 2:
Holiday #12 UCLA (10-2) 47, Air Force (10-3) 20
Alamo #22 Miami (8-4) 33, #13 Cal (8-4) 26
Sun #19 Michigan (9-3) 38, Frenso State (9-3) 16
Liberty #25 Maryland (9-3) 27, Memphis (6-6) 24
Insight #23 Wisconsin (8-4) 43, Alabama (7-5) 10

Week 1:
Las Vegas Clemson (7-5) 30, Boise State (9-3) 13
Motor City Iowa (8-4) 39, Ohio (9-3) 0
Hawaii Nebraska (8-4) 17, BYU (7-5) 7
Champs Sports Kansas State (8-4) 31, Cincinnati (8-4) 24

National Champions:
The Notre Dame Fightin Irish have been named the National Champions for
the second straight year. The Irish beat Auburn in the Sugar Bowl then
jump six places in the polls to capture back-to-back National Championships.

Job Offers:
Two schools from major conferences came calling this year, but
neither jobs is a great situation. Both schools would require 4-6 seasons
to build each team into a winner and right now the Bulls are on the verge
of a breakout year, so I will stay with USF.

Northwestern Wildcats (47 prest, 3-8 last year, 9-24 overall)
Baylor Bears (44 prrest, 4-7 last year, 9-24 overall)
Utah Utes (43 prest, 6-5 last year, 14-19 overall)
UAB Blazers (33 prest, 5-6 last year, 11-22 overall)

Hire/Fire Staff:
The Bulls have retained the entire coaching staff from
last seasons 8-3 team and hopefully they will be able
to improve even more.

Season 4 (2009):
South Florida Bulls

Season Preview:
The Bulls should be in the top 3 of the Conference USA.
Combine that with a win over Central Florida and the alumni
will feel we have had a successful season. With the departure
of CUSA Offensive Player of the Year, HB Travis Smith, the
Bulls will have problems moving the ball on the ground this season.

The Bulls run a West Coast offense and rely in QB James Marshall.
Last season Marshall split time at QB, but this year the job and
the offense will rely soley on him. The OL is a capable unit. While
OT Basil Carlin is a nice plaer, the whole group will need to improve
its overall form and technique to be successful.

USF also run a 3-4 defense and rely on DE Carl Harris. The rely
on their linebackers to carry the defense. The group of LBs should
be able to hold up against most opponents but could wear down
as the season goes on.
