I was playing WreSpirit 2 and TEW07... and the biggest and strangest difference between the two of them is that one is made with the acknowledge of kefabe (TEW07) whereas WreSpirit is played as if wrestling were real...
Which got me thinking...
A game in which you could actually be a wrestler... but in the same keyfabe sort of style as TEW07. You'd start at the bottom... like in WreSpirit and have to make your way up... originally by signing on for indie shows and getting noticed... etc... and then eventually signing for a company until you'd be the top dog of SWF... or something like that.
Of course, rather than winning your matches, your prime goal would be to entertain, as well as build your character and establish yourself as a wrestler. An actual match could be a series of scenarios that play out as the match takes place... for example... "Your opponent (Bruce the Giant) takes a swing at you with a right hand, as scripted. However, he completely misses and you know that it will look dreadful on TV. What do you do?" Then you'd get a choice of answers... like...
A. Sell the punch as originally intended. It'll look bad on screen, but management can't punish you for doing as it says on the script.
B. Completely no-sell the punch as you know that it'd look ridiculous on screen. However, Bruce may repeat the move or not... you don't know and would be risking another awkward moment as the two of you try to phase yourselves back into the script.
C. Improvise. If someone left you an opening like that in a real fight, it'd be stupid not to take advantage. Take an unscripted shot back and then phase back into the script asap. This would look better on screen for the viewers at home, however, management could get angry at you for ignoring th script.
There are many scenarios that could work... like the one above... or a wrestler accidentally connecting too hard with a punch... or not giving you enough leverage on a back body drop... etc... each forcing you to make a choice which would affect both the excitement rating of the match and the managements opinion of you.
And you'd obviously have creative meeting as well, more in-depth than WreSpirit... be booked to win titles... have a detailed control over your contract...
And you could be able to determine your own personality too... by refusing to do jobs... or no-selling opponents attacks... etc...
Just something I've been thinking about... Hopefully there'd be a way to incorporate interview and acting segments into the game as well...
What do you all think?
