I enjoy the negotiation part of the TEW games and was wondering how many Negotiation parts are there in this game?

For example you sign Fighter A to 3 fights and then you sign Fighter B to 5 fights. Then you have to negotiate with the 2 fighters to have them fight rather than just clicking their names on the "booking" screen. Also will there be other negotiation options, like for TV contracts, Sponsors, PPV Networks, etc.

Just curious how the negotiations will work this time around.

July 31st: Pay Parity

Unlike the TEW series, WMMA's contract negotiations with fighters do not happen in isolation. What this means is that a fighter can be aware of what other people are earning, and can take that into consideration.

For example, let's say you try to sign Fighter A who would normally expect $5000 per fight. He may be aware that Fighter B, who is less popular and successful than him, has somehow gotten himself a contract for $15,000 a fight. In this case, Fighter A may - on principal - want a deal for no less than $15,000 too.

This adds a new level of strategy to negotiations, and also prevents people from blindly throwing money around to buy success; if you grossly overpay one fighter, you then set a benchmark for everyone else and can find yourself very quickly painted into a corner in which you are having to overpay everyone. Therefore, you have to carefully weigh up the pros and cons of every major signing, and what effect it can have on your future plans.

From Adam's developers journal.

Hope it helped.

I didn't understand that at 100%

That means that for example (in terms of wrestling): If we pay 150000 to Funaki... we have to pay the triple to the Undertaker, right?

No, but Undertaker wouldn't sign for any less than Funaki was getting.

Those are extreme examples at each end of the scale though. Lets say you're overpaying Matt Hardy at $50,000 and you want to sign Jeff Hardy (or someone else equal to Matt), if you could normally sign Jeff for $25,000 he wont sign for that because he knows Matt is getting double the money so Jeff would expect the same amount for the same deal.

Does that mean if I sign a guy to a 3 fight 10,000 dollar deal then I sign a guy I just want for one to show to fight him for 1 show at 20,000 dollars, even though the first guy has some fights remaining on his contract he can just refuse to work until he gets more money?? I always wondered if thats how It was in real life.

If he has signed a contract and refuses to fight he's risking getting sued by the promoter. I honestly haven't heard about any such holdouts in real world MMA.

That was his managements fault though. That's why he is back in the UFC, he fired his manager who he had gotten into huge fights with and according to his interview with Iole had thoughts about getting a gun and murdering on more than one occasion. He said he'd just get in his car and drive because if he stayed around him much longer there would be physical violence.

I'm not sure if they have already settled their legal business or not though. But yeah, that was his managements fault. >_>

Ok here we go:

Bob Sapp - I don't know what incident exactly are you referring to. If it's the debacle with Cage Rage AFAIK he didn't fight in England because of some deal he signed earlier with K1 prevented him.

Vera - ACCBiggz already explained that one. And it wasn't the case that Vera didn't want to fulfill his contract, his management just wanted a crazy payday when negotiating the new one. It's kind of similar in what's happening to Arlovski now, he has one fight left but Zuffa won't book him until he resigns.

Ortiz - Well, fair game when he was ducking Chuck, forgot about that one. But in all fairness it had nothing to do with fighter pay.

At the time the Ortiz thing was completely about pay.

And I presume the Bob Sapp thing was the K-1 show in Holland vs Hoost. Sapp pulled out just before his match was about to start...

Wasn't the money holdout later? When after his fight with Belfort he went to do some TNA before signing a new contract with the UFC?

With Chuck I always thought that Ortiz just didn't want to get his ass whooped.
