It's been three years since Scott Avatar became the president of GAMMA, and so much has happened in that time. In an effort to share the exciting world of GAMMA with its fans, as well as introducing the product to a new fanbase, I have been given the honor of previewing each of the future ppvs and tv specials here on Grey Dog Software. In order to get everyone up to speed before the next ppv, entitled GAMMA 37: Night of Champions, I will be listing the current champions and giving a recap of the biggest events of the past three years. Feedback is welcome, as are predictions when the time comes. (This is my first crack at something like this and I'll try to update it regularly.)

The Champions:
GAMMA Heavyweight Champion: Tim Boyer (23-4-2)
Arguably the most dominant heavyweight since the rebirth of GAMMA, Tim Boyer has held the heavyweight title for a solid year since defeating James Foster in the company's first five star classic. Tim holds wins over nearly every top heavyweight in the company and in his most recent fight he dominated Fatuma Roy, a man who had quietly developed an incredible winning streak and thought to be the one to dethrone Boyer. We are a few months away from his next defence, but the anticipation is already building.
GAMMA Light Heavyweight Champion: Leon Banks (16-5)
Leon made a name for himself in Alpha-1 before being released from his contract due to a pair of recent losses and Alpha-1's bloated roster. He suffered a defeat in his first GAMMA fight, but has since strung together a five fight winning streak, including the former champino John Rivero and his first title defence against Nick Detroit in June of this year. His next defence will be the most anticipated match this year, as he meets Mike Watson in the main event of GAMMA 37: Night of Champions. Watson has already held the Light Heavyweight title in his young career, and both men hold incredible records and are considered the top of their division, so it will be interesting to see if Banks can overcome his toughest challenge yet and establish himself as the best in the division.
GAMMA Middleweight Champion: Patrick Thomas (14-4)
Since GAMMA 1: Genesis, Thomas has been 8-3 and has remained one of the top middleweights in the company. After being knocked out by the former champion Maarten de Vries, Thomas spent the following year training and dominating his opponents, string four wins together before getting his rematch and knocking de Vries out in the second round in a five star fight to become the middleweight champion. There are several other middleweights who share similar records, including JJ Reid, the newcomer Andrew Rush, and the man who Thomas will face at GAMMA 37: Night of Champions, Carl Ratcliffe. These two have never met in the octagon, so we will see how their similar fighting styles match up for the first time, in Thomas' toughest challenge yet.
GAMMA Welterweight Champion: Ichisake Miyagi (17-8)
One of the most controversial fighters in GAMMA, Miyagi was released from his contract after three consecutive losses back in 1996, only to be rehired nearly three years later. After winning one fight, he was given a title shot, which he subsequently won. Fans were livid that someone with such a poor recent performance would be given a title shot before fan favorites like Eli Hammer or Julio Regueiro, and have demanded answers from Scott Avatar and his team. In the meantime, Miyagi sits as the undisputed champion and awaits his next opponent.
GAMMA Lightweight Champion: Giovani Silva (28-11)
Since Sean Morrison lost the Lightweight title for the second time, there have been several title changes in the division. There have been three Lightweight champions in a year, including Mario de Souza, the man who twice beat Morrison, as well as Luke Hilton. Silva is arguably the strongest fighter of the three, and has the best chance of successfully defending his title in such a talented division. His first opponent as champion is unknown, but front runners include Sean Morrison, who is pound for pound one of the best Lightweights in the company's history, and Mario de Souza, a man who already holds a loss against Silva, but has two wins over Morrison and has stepped his game up considerably since his fight with the current champion.
I will run through the GAMMA 37 card shortly, so get those predictions ready..

GAMMA 37: Night of Champions - Full Card and Breakdown
GAMMA Light Heavyweight Championship
Leon Banks vs Mike Watson
Mike Watson has been considered the future of MMA for several years now, and he backed this claim up at GAMMA 4 by both adding to his unbeaten streak and winning the Light Heavyweight title from Zvonimir Asanovic. His first defeat came one year later when he was knocked out by Ricky Heath in a shocking upset. Following the loss, Watson seemed unfocused, losing his next two fights to John Rivero and a rematch against Asanovic, but since then has regained his killer instinct and has run roughshod over the division, amassing a 5 fight winning streak. His opponent is largely unknown to North American MMA fans, as most of his success came overseas. After losing his first fight in GAMMA, Banks became a force in the division, racking up wins over Christopher Sharp, Jethro Munter, Zvonimir Asanovic and the reigning champion, John Rivero. With one successful title defense behind him, Banks will attempt to establish himself as the most dominant Light Heavyweight in the world. The two fighters match up interestingly, as Banks, the wrestler, holds decision victories over all of his opponents, while the kick boxer Watson has 5 K.O. wins. It remains to be seen if Banks can control Watson long enough to secure a win through points, while avoiding the vicious hands of Watson.
Gabriel Gallego vs Nathan Chambers
Gallego came to GAMMA amidst a great deal of fanfare, holding an impressive 13-0 record. The praise was short-lived, however, as Gallego proceeded to suffer three straight losses. Since then, Gallego has attempted to regain his status as a top tier fighter. He currently has a 17-6 record, but has been submitted in his last two fights. Similarly, the self-proclaimed "Black Superman" began his career with nine straight wins before being beaten by Julio Reguiero. Since then, Chambers has been unable to reclaim the success he had at the beginning of his career, suffering back-to-back losses on two different occasions. Both Gallego and Chambers are fully aware of what this fight means in terms of getting a title shot, and are willing to do whatever it takes to beat the other. Both men are lethal with their hands and hold several K.O. victories over opponents, so this fight may be won by whoever connects with the first punch.
GAMMA Middleweight Championship
Patrick Thomas vs Carl Ratcliffe
Patrick Thomas has been a force in the middleweight division, holding a 14-4 record with his last five consecutive fights ending in T.K.O. victories. Since winning the title, Thomas has sought out fighters in his division that he hasn't beaten yet, which explains Ratcliffe's place in this match. As deserving as Ratcliffe is, he lost his last fight decisively to Stuart Strange, and yet he was selected for a title shot. This may provide an opportunity for Strange to gain a title shot at a later date, but in the meantime, Ratcliffe has yet another hurdle to overcome if he hopes to win the title. He has been plagued with injuries lately, and has yet to truly show up in a high-calibre fight. Add that to the dangerous hands of Thomas, and it may be too much for Ratcliffe to overcome.
Kenny Magilton III vs Marcus Speed
Magilton had very few fights throughout 1996, losing three times and turning his winning record into a 3-4 showing. He was considered lackluster and was given a match with Liam O'Donnell as an afterthought. However, Magilton won, and proceeded to win his next two. Since then, he has become a top 10 ranked fighter and now has a 9-7 record. One of his previous victories was against Marcus Speed, a man whose career has been in a tailspin for over a year. Speed has lost his last four fights, and is no longer considered the top-tier fighter he once was. Both men are hungry to win this fight; for Magilton, another win would place him even higher in the rankings and get him closer to a title shot. For Speed, another loss could end his career in GAMMA. The stakes couldn't be higher for either of these fighters.
Rick Stanley vs Thomas Smith
Stanley is a legend of MMA and has an impressive record of 24-14-3. Since GAMMA 1, all of Stanley's victories have come from T.K.O. but he has never enjoyed the same success that Tim Boyer, the other active MMA Heavyweight legend, has enjoyed. Thomas Smith recently ended a losing streak with a huge win over Steve Mason, reestablishing himself as a top heavyweight. Smith lost to Stanley in their first fight, so it will be interesting to see if Smith is able to capitalize on his recent win and become a top contender, or if Stanley can defeat Smith for the second time and begin his journey to the top of the division.
Randy Carsley vs Jim Carpenter
Carsley is a solid submission wrestler, who has yet to have a big win to establish himself as a serious competitor, in spite of his 9-3 record. Jim Carpenter has become a big star thanks to his work in Japan, and was quickly given a title shot, but was defeated. In order to prove himself to the North American crowd, Carpenter needs to rack up some wins before he will get another title shot. A win here for Carsley would give him that major win he needs to become a big name in the division.
Gary McSweegan vs Elgar
McSweegan is a British fighter who is new to GAMMA, carrying a 13-4 record. He is eager to prove himself to the new audience, and a win over Elgar would do exactly that. Elgar has remained in the division's top ten for over three years, and yet he has never had a solid opportunity at a title. Elgar is reaching the end of his career and wants one more shot at becoming the Light Heavyweight champion, so a win over McSweegan could get him what he wants.
Frank Sheedy vs Dave Lennon
Although he would never admit it, the only thing worth mentioning about Sheedy's career over the past three years is his two wins over Steve Mason. Since then, Sheedy has gone winless with the exception of his last fight, where he knocked Bob Dozier out. Now desperate to prove that he can still hang with in the incredibly deep heavyweight division, Sheedy has been given a shot against Dave Lennon, a relative newcomer to GAMMA who started off impressively but has since lost three times and is desperate for a win to turn his career around. Both of these giants are known for their wrestling skills, which should leave for an interesting fight.
Dan Halvorsen vs Neil Napier
After a long, successful career, Halvorsen has announced that he will be retiring after this fight. In an effort to leave with his arm raised, like Beau Gorshin did six months earlier, Halvorsen has been matched up with Neil Napier, a man in desperate need for a win, although he is a former middleweight champion. There are no real consequences for Halvorsen here, although the idea of walking away from a successful career with a win is likely driving Halvorsen here.
Mario de Souza vs Simon Vine
de Souza is a former champion and has been frequently compared to the current champion, Giovani Silva, while Vine has constantly struggled for respect amidst a talented division. A win for either fighter could earn them a title shot in the future, and an added incentive exists for de Souza, who would love a rematch against the man who he has been compared to so frequently.
Jack Humphreys vs Doug Hansen
The real story here lies with Humphreys, who was once considered the bad boy of GAMMA. Humphreys' arrogance was as well known as his in ring ability, but everything came crashing down following his second loss to Julio Reguiero. Since that fight, Humphreys has lost nine straight fights to opponents he would have destroyed in the past. Humphreys has gone from being a fighter fans love to hate, to an underdog, desperate for a win. Scott Avatar has gone on record saying that he will continue to book Humphreys in matches until he agrees to drop weight, and so he has been given a fight against Hansen, a newcomer to GAMMA with an 18-5 record. If Humphreys was hoping for an easy fight to avoid his 10th straight loss, he won't find it here.
If you would like, feel free to post your predictions for the fights. Following the event, the new GAMMA rankings will be posted for the first time. See you after GAMMA 37: Night of Champions

Also during the show, Lenny Mcfadden announced that he would be dropping down to the 185lb middleweight division. Mcfadden hoped to have a fight scheduled for the next show.
We're now getting word that Patrick Thomas suffered an injury in his match with Carl Ratcliffe, and will be out for at least two months.

In addition, it has been announced that the next ppv will be GAMMA 38: Miyagi vs Basora and will feature a welterweight championship fight between the current champion Ichisake Miyagi and the 16-4 Luis Basora. Miyagi is one of the most unpopular fighters in GAMMA currently, due to what many people feel was an undeserving title shot that resulted in Miyagi's championship win. Basora will likely have the Ohio crowd 100% behind him. The rest of the card will be announced soon, but it is expected that both Eli Harris and Steve Mason will be fighting on the card. Stay tuned for more.

Lightweight division must be weak for Kenny Magilton to be top 10.
Broken_Heartagram
12-23-2007, 04:46 AM
There's no question that the Lightweight division is the weakest in GAMMA currently, but Magilton does have wins over Charles Stiles, Marcus Speed and Jackson Gray recently and had earned himself a title shot at GAMMA 35: Locked and Loaded. There will be an announcement shortly that will change the face of the lightweight division, so stay tuned.

12-23-2007, 05:12 AM
A GAMMA conference call was held tonight, and there were several announcements made:
-Steve Mason has been injured in training, and will be forced to pull out of a fight at GAMMA 38 with Shane Gilchrist that was to be announced this week. This is a huge blow to Mason, as a win over Gilchrist would have definately gotten another shot at the heavyweight title, but he will now have to wait over 5 months before he gets another opportunity at the gold. Mason's good friend Marvin Stevens will replace Mason in the fight.
-Jim Carpenter has announced that he will be dropping down to the lightweight division, following his recent loss to Randy Carsley. The 26-8-1 fighter said that he is much more comfortable at 155lbs, and that he guarantees that he will be at the top of the relatively weak division before long.
-Scott Avatar announced that Dan Halvorsen will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Halvorsen joined the conference call and said that the induction was an honor, and "a much better way of capping off (his) career," of course referencing his loss in his final fight.
So with only two fights announced for GAMMA 38: Miyagi vs Basora, it is likely that the rest of the card will be announced this week, giving GAMMA enough time to promote the card. Stay tuned for more.

12-24-2007, 03:47 AM
The full GAMMA 38 card has finally been announced, and I will be breaking down the entire show, beginning with the main event.
Ichisake Miyagi vs Luis Basora
Miyagi's recent success has been shrouded in controversy as of late, making him one of the least popular fighters in GAMMA. After only having three fights in two years and losing consistently, Miyagi was released from his contract in July 1997 before being brought back 18 months later and thrust almost immediately into a title shot. Fans were outraged that a fighter with such a lackluster record in GAMMA would be given a title opportunity, regardless of his success in other promotions. Miyagi went on to win the title from Ricardo Fernades at GAMMA 29 via TKO, mocking the people who criticized him in the process. After successfully defending his belt against Jim Carpenter, Miyagi will now face Basora, the top ranked Welterweight in GAMMA. Basora has an impressive record of 16-4 and holds wins over some of the division's top fighters, including Darin Blood, Eli Harris and Nathan Chambers. Basora has overwhelmed his opponents with his flawless Judo, which may cause Miyagi a great deal of trouble if Basora manages to get ground control. This will undoubtedly be Miyagi's greatest challenge, and a win for him is the only way to validate his current situation as champion.
Maarten De Vries vs Stuart Strange
Ichisake Miyagi may be unpopular, but the prize for most hated fighter in GAMMA still goes to Stuart Strange. Since his loss to Patrick Thomas at GAMMA 1, Strange has become well known for running down his opponents after fights, as well as an unprecedented amount of trash talk in preparation for fights. This had always been counterbalanced by the fact that Strange usually ended up losing to whoever he was fighting. Then that changed. Strange racked up wins over JJ Reid, former champion Matthew Dean and two wins over Greg Atteveld, including one in Atteveld's retirement fight, after which he suggested that beating the future Hall of Famer "proved nothing" and wanted a more worthy competitor. He has certainly been given that now, in the from of the former Middleweight champion Maarten De Vries. The 20-6 fighter will have no interest in taking the fight to the ground where Strange is at his best, using his impressive takedown defence to keep the fight standing and then relying on his deadly kicks to end the fight. This will be De Vries' second fight since losing to Patrick Thomas, and another win would likely provide him with a rematch for the belt. For Strange, a win over De Vries would likely get him a title shot, as well as a whole lot of ammunition for his next round of trash talk.
Marvin Stevens vs Shane Gilchrist
This isn't the fight that everyone wanted to see, but it still has the potential to be an excellent heavyweight fight. After Steve Mason was injured in training for a fight with Gilchrist, Stevens agreed to replace his friend. Stevens is coming off two losses to middle of the road opponents, and probably took the fight knowing that a win over Gilchrist would move him up the heavyweight rankings. Gilchrist's last fight was a loss to James Foster, so there isn't a momentum advantage for either fighter, but Gilchrist has had far more success as of late and will be looking for his 20th win and an opportunity at a title shot. As it stands, Stevens has 50lbs on Gilchrist and will try to use that to his advantage to control him on the ground. Gilchrist will likely try to finish the fight quickly, to avoid having to grapple with the massive Stevens for too long.
Zvonimir Asanovic vs Ricky Heath
Both of these light heavyweights have fallen from grace, so it will be interesting to see who wants to regain a top spot in the division more. Asanovic is a former champion who has recently lost to Mike Watson and Buddy Garner. Heath has also held the belt in his division, but has experienced less success than Asanovic, although Heath has beaten him in a previous fight. Heath probably needs a win more here, as he's been slipping steadily since losing the light heavyweight title, but another loss would be costly for Asanovic. Both men are wrestlers, but are very different. Heath is arguably the better wrestler of the two, but Asanovic possesses incredible knock out power in both his fists and feet. Heath is going to have to get Asanovic on the ground, and from there it will be a battle of control.
Callum Henson vs Charles Stiles
This is the only lightweight fight on the card, but in such a turbulent time for the division, this fight is very important in terms of ranking. With the newly signed Chojiro Goto and Jim Carpenter joining the lightweight division, along with rumors that at least one other fighter will drop down following GAMMA 38, Stiles and Henson need to position themselves close to the top of the division before having to work through new opponents. These two have fought before in 1996, with Henson winning, but Stiles has improved significantly since then. He has defeated Simon Vine and Luke Hilton following the loss, so it will be a different Charles Stiles coming to the fight. Henson's incredible physical strength is always a deciding factor in his fights, but his inability to finish may hurt him in this fight.
James Foster vs Eddie Whelan
Although his opponent is new to GAMMA, this could be one of Foster's toughest fights yet. The legendary heavyweight's last six losses have come from knock outs, and Eddie Whelan is more than capable of providing a seventh similar loss. His fantastic knees and kicks will be a real danger to the former two-time champion, although he has never fought anyone the same calibre as Foster. At the same time, Foster is more than capable of knocking out opponents, so this fight will likely be a one round slugfest. A win for Whelan would catapult him into stardom, while a win for Foster would keep him close to the title picture.
Lloyd McAllister vs Lenny McFadden
This will be McFadden's first fight in GAMMA as a middleweight, and it's a great opportunity to show his abilities. McAllister has been struggling lately, winning only once in the past 18 months, but "The K.O. Kid" still has the striking ability to win a fight. McFadden is coming into the middleweight division with a very hit-or-miss record, and is obviously looking to improve on that, starting with this fight. McFadden's heavy hands, combined with his wrestling ability, should give him an edge over many middleweights that may be lighter than him.
Darin Blood vs Eli Harris
This highly anticipated rematch features two of the most popular welterweights in GAMMA. Blood came to GAMMA with a 2-0 record, while Harris began his career here. Both men have wins over the best the welterweight division have to offer, and have huge fan bases. In their first match, Blood beat Harris by decision, and since then, their careers have gone very similarly in terms of the number of wins each has. This fight will likely earn the winner the next title shot, while the loser will have to decide if they drop down to lightweight or continue fighting in the division they are in.
Buddy Garner vs Jethro Munter
Buddy Garner is one of the best Light Heavyweights in GAMMA, ranked only behind Anthony LeToussier and the man he is constantly compared to, Mike Watson. Garner is currently enjoying a five fight winning streak and is expected to receive a title shot against Watson early next year. In the meantime, Garner will face Munter, a fighter who has struggled as of late, but has the skills to turn his career around. Munter possesses significant knock out power and physical strength, but it may not be enough to beat the incredibly talented Garner. A win for Munter would cancel out the series of losses he has recently suffered, but the odds are certainly stacked against him.
Ricardo Fernandes vs Bruno Epps
Fernandes has been a force since coming to GAMMA, only losing once to Ichisake Miyagi in a shocking upset. Since then, Fernandes has knocked out Alan Kendall and Peter Bracewell, and will attempt to do the same with Epps. Epps hasn't fought enough to show everything he can do in the octagon, but he has shown potential. His losses have come from difficult opponents, and he did defeat Gabriel Gallego recently. Epps may be reaching his potential shortly, and this match with Fernandes may be the place to show what he's capable of.
Check back later tonight for the Blurcat official predictions for GAMMA 38: Miyagi vs Basora.

GAMMA 38: Miyagi vs Basora has just ended and here are the results:
Ichisake Miyagi vs Luis Basora Basora wins via decision
Maarten De Vries vs Stuart Strange De Vries wins via TKO 1:31 2nd Round
Shane Gilchrist vs Marvin Stevens Gilchrist wins via decision
Zvonimir Asanovic vs Ricky Heath Asanovic wins via decision
Callum Henson vs Charles Stiles Stiles wins via decision
James Foster vs Eddie Whelan Foster wins via decision
Lloyd McAllister vs Lenny McFadden McAllister wins via TKO 1:42 2nd Round
Darin Blood vs Eli Harris Harris wins via KO 2:33 1st Round
Buddy Garner vs Jethro Munter Munter wins via TKO 1:55 2nd Round
Ricardo Fernandes vs Bruno Epps Fernandes wins via KO 3:32 1st Round
Standout moments from the show include Jethro Munter's shocking upset over Buddy Garner, Maarten De Vries' TKO win over Stuart Strange and Luis Basora's title win. The show wasn't nearly as good as GAMMA 37, so hopefully the card for GAMMA 39 can exceed expectations. Word coming out of the show is that Basora suffered a minor rib injury during the fight and will be out of action for at least a month, and Callum Henson was also injured at the hands of Charles Stiles. He will be out for a similar amount of time. Following the show, Darin Blood announced that he will be dropping down to the Lightweight division, following his loss to Eli Harris. With the number of new faces in the Lightweight division, there should be several interesting potential match ups for GAMMA 39.
GAMMA 39: Unbreakable will be headlined by a Heavyweight title fight between Tim Boyer and Raul Hughes. The rest of the card will be announced following the holidays. On behalf of GAMMA, Merry Christmas, and stay tuned.

Luis Basora beating Miyagi can't be an upset. He was one of the top guys in my stacked welterweight division, only Koreyiki Anzai(sp?) and Doug Hansen have taken a crack at his legacy.

Disappointing news following the holiday break, as the scheduled main event for GAMMA 39: Unbreakable has been delayed until January. Tim Boyer scheduled a meeting with Scott Avatar which took place earlier today, where he informed Avatar he wouldn't be ready to fight in time for GAMMA 39. This is devastating news, as the fight between Boyer and Hughes has been anticipated for some time now. Mike Watson has stepped up to the plate and offered to defend his title as a replacement main event, in spite of the fact that he just fought two months ago. Due to Buddy Garner's shocking loss to Jethro Munter, a new top contender needed to be found, and under such short notice, Elgar was the first and best candidate to sign up for the fight. Mike Watson vs Elgar has therefore been announced as the main event for GAMMA 39: Unbreakable. Stay tuned for the rest of the card.

Here is the full card for GAMMA 39: Unbreakable
Mike Watson vs Elgar
This fight was announced as a replacement for the originally scheduled heavyweight title fight, and although this fight may not be as anticipated, it should be an excellent fight. Watson is in the midst of an incredible 6 fight winning streak, with his last win coming only two months ago, when he viciously knocked out Leon Banks for the light heavyweight title. One of the few people Watson has yet to fight is Elgar, the 18-9-1 Judo specialist. Elgar has won his las two fights, including a win over the now infamous Jethro Munter, and has been a mainstay in the light heavyweight division for years now. Although he has been mainly successful in his career, Elgar has never been able to defeat top tier fighters like Buddy Garner, Zvonimir Asanovic or Ricky Heath. A win over Watson would solidify him as one of the best light heavyweights in the world, as well as the GAMMA light heavyweight champion. In terms of how the two opponents match up, Elgar's strength lies in his conditioning, as well as his ability to take opponents down. He has finished the majority of his fights by controlling his opponents on the ground, and having the athleticism to last three rounds. Unfortunately for Elgar, Watson has developed incredible takedown defence, and should be able to keep this fight standing, where he is much stronger. Elgar will certainly have his work cut out for him if he wants to dethrone the current king of the division.
Sean Morrison vs Luke Hilton
This rematch between two of the best lightweights in GAMMA should be an all out war. Both men have held the GAMMA lightweight championship, and both are hungy for another opportunity at the belt. The first fight between these two men ended in a unanimous decision for Hilton, and since then Morrison has won his last two. Morrison already has a win over Giovani Silva, and is convinced that a rematch with the champion would yield the same result, while a second win over Morrison for Hilton would guarantee another shot at the title he recently lost. Morrison's standup is notoriously weak, but he is the absolute best at getting his opponents on the ground and controlling them from there. Hilton not only has a much better standup game, but is also impressive on the ground. If he can get into Morrison's guard, he could beat him, but Hilton's best game plan is to stay standing with Morrison. In a division that is going through several changes, both of these men have an opportunity to become the face of the Lightweight division, and the new top contender.
Inejiro Chiba vs Rick Stanley
Stanley continues his quest to the top of the division as he meets Chiba, the dangerous striker coming off a loss to Raul Hughes. Stanley has looked better than ever in his last two wins, and looks to build off of his momentum with a win over the struggling Chiba. Since arriving in GAMMA, Chiba has had a disappointing record, and knows what a win over Stanley would mean for his career. In terms of how the two match up, Chiba's strength lies in his quick, dangerous fists, which he has usd to overwhelm and defeat many opponents. He is, however, largely useless when it comes to any kind of ground game, which is where Stanley has him beat. Stanley should have little problem taking this fight to the ground and controlling it from there. Chiba's best chance is to come at Stanley early, and try to overwhelm the 37 year old with punches.
Anthony LeToussier vs Drew Jenks
LeToussier has had an impressive 8-4 record over the past three years, and yet has never had the kind of title opportunities fighters like Mike Watson have had. He has put together several win streaks, but has been defeated before receiving a title shot on several occasions, usually at the hands of Watson. Now with five wins in a row, LeToussier faces Jenks, hoping to extend his streak and guarantee a title shot. Jenks has struggled to maintain a winning record, but has had success recently and is looking to get his third consecutive win here. Jenks is an incredibly powerful wrestler, although his ground game is only effective when he is on the offensive. LeToussier has lethal kicks and knees, but is ineffective on the ground and can easily be controlled. This fight is difficult to predict, as each fighter has momentum going into the fight, and each fighter has opposing strengths and weaknesses.
JJ Reid vs Neil Napier
These two middleweights have been hugely successful in GAMMA, and will meet each other for the first time. Reid has been a fan favorite, with wins over many top stars in the division, while Napier has been less popular, but holds a better record than Reid and has held the middleweight title before. Reid is anxious to get an opportunity at the champion Patrick Thomas, considering he has a win over Thomas back at GAMMA 7, but he will have to defeat the well rounded Napier to be considered. Napier is dangerous in every scenario and has excellent takedown defence. Reid's submission skills and ground control are his most effective weapons against the kung fu specialist, but it won't be an easy win for Reid either way.
Joe Hinchcliffe vs Peter Bracewell
This is the second meeting between these two, and Hinchcliffe will be looking for a different result this time. Since defeating Hinchcliffe at GAMMA 8, Bracewell has been dominant in the welterweight division, defeating Eli Harris, Darin Blood and Luis Basora, among others. A pair of losses slowed his rise to the top of the division, but another win over Hinchcliffe would help get close to a title shot against a man he has already defeated. Hinchcliffe has struggled over the past few years, but is coming off a win over the retiring Geoff Cahill and is looking to build off of that. Hinchcliffe's record may not be as impressive as Bracewell's, but he has the skills to be a top contender, including knockout power in his hands. His takedown defense is quite poor, however, so he'll have to keep the fight standing up as best he can. Bracewell has had little success finishing opponents on the ground, and possesses a strong chin, so he may want to stand up and throw with Hinchcliffe and hope for the best.
Chojiro Goto vs Liam O'Donnell
This will be the debut fight for Goto, a 10-5 Muay Thai fighter who is a top ranked Lightweight. His opponent will be O'Donnell, one of the worst ranked lightweights in GAMMA. O'Donnell has knock out wins over Simon Vine and Mario De Souza, but has been beaten by the majority of the lightweight division. There have been accusations that O'Donnell is being fed to Goto in an attempt to make Goto look good in his debut, but Scott Avatar has denied this, saying that O'Donnell's conditioning and knock out ability makes him a threat to any fighter. Goto isn't known for his chin, but does have impressive strength and technique in his striking, so this fight may end in the first round, and depend on whoever connects first.
Carl Ratcliffe vs David Hornsby
Ratcliffe is coming off of an unsuccessful attempt at the Middleweight championship, while Hornsby has yet to win a fight in GAMMA. The lack of success for both fighters have left both men desperate for a win, so this fight could be quite entertaining. Hornsby is particularly dangerous when controlling his opponent on the ground, which isn't good for Ratcliffe, who is easily controlled on the ground. If Ratcliffe can somehow gain control on the ground, he has a chance of winning this one, otherwise this may be Hornsby's best opportunity for a win in GAMMA.
Thomas Smith vs Bob Dozier
These two heavyweights have a lot to prove before being considered contenders, and a loss here would be devastating for both fighters. Smith has a huge win over Steve Mason recently, but that win came after a four fight losing streak and he has lost to Rick Stanley since. Dozier started his GAMMA career off strong, with wins over Eddie Whelan and Rick Stanley, before losing his last three fights. If either of these fighters want to achieve any success in GAMMA, it needs to start here. Dozier's lack of style is evident upon watching any of his fights, but his knock out power cannot be denied. Smith's strengths lie in his ground game and his ability to take down opponents of any size. As long as Smith can avoid the heavy hands of Dozier, he should be able to take him down and control the fight for the win.
Jack Humphreys vs Gabriel Gallego
The Jack Humphreys saga continues at GAMMA 39, where a loss would mean his 11th straight in GAMMA, and would make his record 13-13, the closest to a losing record Humphreys has ever had. His opponent will be Gallego, the Muay Thai specialist who has struggled in GAMMA, but still has wins over top welterweights. Humphreys no longer displays the natural skill that made him such a threat only a few years ago, and instead seems resigned to his current situation. Scott Avatar has said that Humphreys will continue to be booked into matches like this until he agrees to drop down to lightweight or quits, so it remains to be seen what will happen after this fight.
Kenny Magilton III vs Jim Carpenter
This fight was added last minute, after Magilton demanded an opportunity to fight. After accusations were made here at Grey Dog that Magilton didn't deserve to be considered a top 10 lightweight fighter, Magilton asked for a fight that would give him an opportunity to prove that he could hang with the best of the division. Carpenter is new to GAMMA, but is currently the number 5 ranked lightweight in the company. He has, however, lost his last two fights to Ichisake Miyagi and Randy Carsley, so he is both desperate for a win and lacking any kind of momentum going into this fight. Carpenter is a talented wrestler with a phenominal chin, which is very similar to Magilton's strengths. This could be Magilton's best opportunity to prove his critics wrong, and become a threat in the ever-changing lightweight division.
In addition to this, Avatar announced that the card for the next episode of GAMMA Full Force will be announced, and a huge announcement will be made during GAMMA 39. I'll have blurcat's predictions up shortly, so stay tuned.

In a shocking announcement, Joe Hinchcliffe said during a radio interview today that he plans on retiring after his fight against Peter Bracewell at GAMMA 39. This comes as a complete surprise to many, as Hinchcliffe had discussed getting his career back on track, following his recent losses. Hinchcliffe joins the growing list of veterans who have recently walked away from the sport, including Beau Gorshin, Greg Atteveld and Geoff Cahill. Fans of Hinchcliffe will be watching GAMMA 39 to see how he is able to end his career. Results will follow the end of the show.

Kenny Magilton III vs Jim Carpenter Magilton wins via submission :41 3rd Round
Here are some of the highlights:
Following his submission victory, Kenny Magilton said that he had proved himself to his critics and demanded respect in GAMMA
Jack Humphreys taunted Scott Avatar and GAMMA management following his win, saying he would be around for a long time and would remain a welterweight until he decided otherwise. Classic Humphreys arrogance, considering it was his first win in 12 fights.
Joe Hinchcliffe thanked the fans following his victory and officially announced his retirement. He put Bracewell over as a tremendous competitor, and wished him luck.
During the show, it was announced that the next episode of GAMMA Full Force would air in two weeks and would feature the main event of Fernando Amaro vs Andrew Rush. The rest of the show will be announced shortly.
Before the main event, Scott Avatar entered the octagon to make his big announcement. He talked about the world class talent in GAMMA, and said that he had acquired someone who would only raise the bar even higher. He then invited his newest acquisition to the octagon. The newest member of GAMMA was revealed to be Rav Kapur, the undefeated former BCF Heavyweight champion. Kapur was given a chance to speak, and he thanked Avatar and GAMMA for the opportunity, before running down Tim Boyer, who was not in attendance. Kapur said that if he were GAMMA champion, he wouldn't disappoint the fans by postponing his fight. A mixed reaction for his anti-Boyer comments, but overall people seemed thrilled with the new signing.
As we now know, GAMMA 40 will feature Tim Boyer vs Raul Hughes for the Heavyweight title, but it is now unlikely that this will be the main event. The rest of the card should be announced shortly, and the new rankings will be posted following GAMMA 40.

In yet another bizarre twist in the heavyweight title picture, Raul Hughes has rejected a third match with Tim Boyer for the Heavyweight title. Hughes has been beaten twice by Boyer, and was apparently reluctant to agree to a third fight. Instead, Hughes will fight at GAMMA Full Force, while Boyer will now defend his title against Shane Gilchrist, the last person to beat Boyer. Stay tuned for more.

Here is the card for the first episode of GAMMA Full Force for the 21st century:
Fernando Amaro vs Andrew Rush
The first main event of 2000 could end up being one of the best middleweight fights of the year. Since Amaro lost to Patrick Thomas in September 1998, he has won five fights in a row. Rush has only lost one fight in his 20 fight career, and has been dominant in his fights since joining GAMMA. Rush has one of the best defensive games in GAMMA, and is incredibly powerful. Amaro may the only fighter capable of taking Rush down and controlling him, and also possesses lethal kicks, capable of knockouts, while Rush has knocked out two of his last three opponents. At the moment, Amaro is the #1 ranked middleweight while Rush is #2, and both are potential title shot candidates. There will be a lot on the line in this one, and Patrick Thomas will be watching.
Raul Hughes vs Fatuma Roy
In a shocking move, Hughes recently turned down a heavyweight title shot after it had already been announced. Fans, Tim Boyer and Scott Avatar weren't pleased with such a late minute decision, and so Hughes' request for a new match wasn't taken lightly. Instead of Boyer, Hughes will now be fighing Roy, one of the top heavyweights in GAMMA. Roy recently lost to Tim Boyer, ending a three year undefeated streak, and is hungry for another fight to avoid slipping in the rankings. Hughes has a lot to prove after interfering with a scheduled match, so a loss here would likely bury him, especially with Rav Kapur making his debut shortly. Both men are more than capable of knocking opponents out, so this fight will likely end quickly.
Marcus Speed vs Simon Vine
With fighters like Darin Blood, Jim Carpenter and Chojiro Goto recently entering the lightweight division, fighters like Speed and Vine need to step up their game if they are looking for a title opportunity. Vine is currently the fourth ranked lightweight in GAMMA, but is coming off of a loss to Mario de Souza, and a second straight los would be devastating to a potential title shot. Speed has much more to prove than Vine, as he is currently unranked and has only won his last fight in his past five. A win for Speed would get him back in the top ten, but a win for Vine would get him closer to a title shot than he has ever been.
Matthew Dean vs Doug Hansen
Dean has struggled since losing his middleweight title, and since dropping down to welterweight he has only beaten Jack Humphreys. He is desperate to regain his former glory, and a win over the newcomer Hansen would get him back on track. Hansen has won both of his GAMMA fights in impressive fashion, and is eager to become one of the biggest names in the welterweight division. He has shown both his impressive submission skills and his knockout ability, leaving him dangerous in a variety of scenarios. Dean is extremely difficult to submit, however, so this fight may end up being a straight brawl between two solid strikers.
Hopefully more of GAMMA 40 will be announced at the show as well. Stay tuned for Blurcats predictions.

As promised, here are the official Blurcat predictions for GAMMA Full Force:
Fernando Amaro (23-7) vs Andrew Rush (19-1) Fernando Amaro via decision
Raul Hughes (17-4) vs Fatuma Roy (21-8) Raul Hughes via KO
Marcus Speed (8-7) vs Simon Vine (13-10) Simon Vine via KO
Matthew Dean (12-9) vs Doug Hansen (19-5) Doug Hansen via TKO

Here are the results from GAMMA Full Force:
Fernando Amaro vs Andrew Rush Fernando Amaro wins via decision
Raul Hughes vs Fatuma Roy Fatuma Roy wins via decision
Marcus Speed vs Simon Vine Simon Vine wins via decision
Matthew Dean vs Doug Hansen Matthew Dean wins via TKO 1:59 1st Round
Hughes' loss is devastating for him, considering the trouble he caused in getting this fight. It will be interesting to see how his career is affected by this.
Hansen's quick TKO loss to Dean was surprising to say the least, and will help in getting Dean back to the top of the division.
Following the main event, Scott Avatar entered the octagon and congratulated Amaro, before turning to Rush. He said that he had a surprise for Rush, but admitted that it would have been better if he had won tonight. He then brought out Will Kane, previously the only fighter to defeat Rush, and announced that he would be Rush's next fight in the future. Kane and Rush stared each other down as Amaro could be seen holding his elbow while talking to one of his trainers. We have since learned that Amaro suffered an injury and will be out for around a month.

Here is the full card for GAMMA 40: Retribution
Tim Boyer vs Shane Gilchrist
For a replacement fight, this is a huge main event, and arguably Boyer's toughest fight as champion. Nearly three years ago, Boyer was knocked out by Gilchrist in the first round. Since then, Boyer has regained the heavyweight title and beaten some of the best fighters in GAMMA. Gilchrist's record hasn't been as impressive since his first win over Boyer, but he has remained in the top tier of the heavyweight division. Gilchrist hasn't won a fight by knock out since the Boyer fight, leading many to believe that he had lost his killer instinct that had made him so successful, but the opportunity at regaining the heavyweight title may bring it back. Boyer doesn't have the best chin, but is more than capable of knocking opponents out, so Boyer will need to focus more on protecting himself, rather than trying to do something he isn't already good at.
Ricardo Fernandes vs Eli Harris
This may be Harris' biggest fight to date as he faces the former welterweight champion who holds only one loss in GAMMA. After spending most of 1999 unable to string two wins together, Harris knocked out Brandon Sugar and Darin Blood. He is now poised to become one of the top welterweights in GAMMA if he can defeat Fernandes. Fernandes has knocked out his last three opponents, and is incredibly dangerous in the clinch, one area where Harris may be lacking. Harris has the best KO record in GAMMA and has proven himself to be dangerous in nearly every situation. A win for Fernandes would just add yet another name to his list of victims, while a win for Harris would catapult him in line for his first title shot.
Callum Henson vs Darin Blood
This will be Blood's first fight since dropping down to the lightweight division, and it will be a test as to whether or not it was the right move. He has joined the weakest division in GAMMA, and probably expects to make short work of its stars, starting with Henson. Henson has had a string of bad luck lately, losing four of his last five fights, but his early record proves that he has the skills to be a top contender. Henson's biggest asset is his defense, possessing a strong chin, incredibly physical strength and excellent balance, making him difficult to take off his feet. He is also able to knock people out with his heavy hands, although few of his fights have been won via knock out. Blood is more than capable of knocking people out in a variety of ways, and is also difficult to take off his feet, so this will be a stand-up war that will likely end in the first round.
Tony McCall vs Jethro Munter
Munter is coming off of his massive upset win over Buddy Garner and hopes to continue the momentum. McCall started his career in the light heavyweight division with two promising wins, but has lost nearly every fight since, and is beginning to get desperate for a win. McCall is capable of finishing fights with his heavy hands, but his suspect chin will likely be a factor in this fight. Munter won his fight with Garner with a knockout, so he definitely has the advantage going into this fight. It remains to be seen if Munter can capitalize on his recent success, or if he will buckle under the pressure.
Julio Reguiero vs Brandon Sugar
Reguiero hasn't fought since losing to Nathan Chambers in August, and has proven that he recovers from losses very well. After his first loss to Ricardo Fernandes, Reguiero destroyed Peter Bracewell with a submission victory, and won his next two fights. He is facing Sugar, who is largely unknown and unproven in GAMMA. He has had three fights so far, and has lost all three, albeit to talented fighters like Bracewell, Eli Harris and Darin Blood. He will get an opportunity at an upset victory here, but his chances aren't good. Sugar should be looking to get a submission victory here, as his stand up hasn't been particularly good in the past, but it would be Reguiero's first submission loss and seems unlikely. Barring a major slip up, Reguiero should make short work of Sugar and begin planning his return to the title picture.
Bryan Van Den Hauwe vs Stuart Strange
The bad guy returns to GAMMA, as Strange has his first fight since his loss to Maarten De Vries. Strange has been oddly quiet in preparation for his fight with Van Den Hauwe, which suggests that he may have learned from all the unproductive trash talk and intends on focusing on this fight. Van Den Hauwe has an identical style to Strange, but has had nowhere near the same level of success, as he is currently suffering from a four fight losing streak. His problem may be that the opponents chosen for him match up terribly, whereas he and Strange are world class Greco Roman wrestlers and should challenge each other well. Strange's striking may be ineffective on the strong chin of Van Den Hauwe, so we may see a straight wrestling battle.
Jackson Gray vs Charles Stiles
Gray has struggled within the lightweight division, and has gone on the record as saying he welcomes new challengers to the division to give him a chance to face new opponents. Unfortunately for him, Gray will be facing Stiles, who already holds a win over Gray and is enjoying a two fight winning streak. If Stiles wins here, he will be in line to face Sean Morrison later this year, which would be his biggest fight to date, so there is plenty of incentive for the Jiu-Jitsu specialist. For Gray to win, he is going to need to get in close and control Stiles with his impressive grappling skills, but Stiles is exceptionally difficult to take off his feet and can finish opponents with submissions and strikes. Stiles has a clear advantage in this one, so it remains to be seen if Gray can get an upset win.
Lefter Oktay vs Frank Sheedy
Oktay's success rate has been very average as of late, losing as many fights as he has won. Sheedy had only a couple of shocking wins over Steve Mason in the last three years, but has won his last two fights decisively. Both of these heavyweights have shown that they are capable of big wins, but it remains to be seen if either can string together more than a couple wins to be considered any kind of a threat. In terms of how they match up, Sheedy relies on controlling opponents with his wrestling, and his rock solid chin has limited the number of knock out losses he potentially could have had by now. Oktay is also an accomplished grappler, and has more of a striking game than Sheedy, giving him the advantage in this fight.
John Rivero vs Nick Detroit
This potential main event fight has been tacked on to this fight as a bonus for fans, and it shouldn't disappoint. Rivero hasn't fought since his loss to Anthony LeToussier, and fans have been anticipating his return ever since. Detroit has only lost to the former champion Leon Banks in the last two years, and would love to add Rivero to his list of defeated opponents. Detroit's kicks are fairly dangerous, and his sheer physical strength plays a factor in all of his fights. Rivero is a vicious striker and has incredible submission skills. This range in skills makes Rivero the favorite, but it would be a mistake to count Detroit out.
Blurcat's predictions will be posted shortly.

No real surprises here, but some big wins as Boyer was able to avenge his only loss in three years and Munter keeps his momentum going with a win over McCall. Blood proved he could hang with some of the best lightweights in GAMMA with a decisive win over Henson, and Strange returned to his arrogant ways following his win over Van Den Hauwe, laughing at his opponent.
Following the fight, there was word from Boyer's camp that he had suffered some type of facial injury in his fight. It now sounds like he will be out for around six months, which is disappointing for him, considering the amount of time he was forced to take off between his last fight and last night's title defense.
The top three matches have already been announced for GAMMA 41: Knock Out, and here they are:
Middleweight #1 Contender Fight
Maarten De Vries vs Neil Napier

Lightweight Championship Fight
Giovani Silva vs Simon Vine

Here is the full card for GAMMA 41: Knock Out:
Maarten De Vries vs Neil Napier
Two of the best middleweights in GAMMA are set to collide for the second time in the main event of GAMMA 41. Napier and De Vries have both been the middleweight champion before, and hold wins over stars like JJ Reid and Stuart Strange. In their first meeting, De Vries won a decision victory over Napier, using his powerful knees and kicks to overwhelm Napier. Since then, De Vries has lost only once to Patrick Thomas. Napier struggled through a losing streak following his fight with De Vries, but has recently strung four wins together. Napier's striking is dangerous in every situation, which could be trouble for the weak chin of De Vries, but he does not have the same kind of near-spotless record that De Vries has. Whether that plays a part in the fight remains to be seen.
James Foster vs Rav Kapur
This heavyweight battle is one of a few dream matches that involve Kapur, and could possibly be the fight of the night. Foster has won his last two fights, and although he has been knocked out twice by the reigning heavyweight champion, is one of the best heavyweights in the world. Kapur has made a name for himself in Britain, earning himself an amazing 12-0 record. Aside from Hassan Fezzik, Kapur is the name fans constantly pair against top GAMMA fighters when designing dream fights, and for good reason. None of Kapur's fights have gone to a decision, and he has both KO and submission victories. There is no safe place in a fight with Kapur, as he is deadly on the ground, in the clinch or standing up. Foster's chin is notoriously bad, so he will have to be very careful in this fight. If he can end Kapur's streak, he may be able to get a third match with Boyer if he wants it. A win for Kapur would instantly make him the #1 contender.
Giovani Silva vs Simon Vine
This will be a tremendous challenge for Vine if he hopes to have a chance at winning the lightweight title. Since breaking his losing streak in September 1997, Silva has been unbeaten in eight fights. Vine was one of his victims in 1998, but has since won five of his last seven and is now the fourth ranked lightweight in GAMMA. If Vine is able to control Silva on the ground, he will have the advantage, but doing so would require getting close enough to Silva to risk getting hit with his lethal strikes. If Vine is at his best, he may be able to finally dethrone the champion.
Buddy Garner vs Garry McSweegan
Following his shocking loss to Jethro Munter, which ended his six fight unbeaten streak, Garner has his work cut out for him if he wants to reach the title picture again. His first opponent since his loss will be McSweegan, an accomplished striker who is 1-1 since arriving in GAMMA. Garner's momentum has likely been shot since his recent loss, so this fight may be more of a struggle for Garner than it should be. His phenomenal ground game speaks for itself, but the Munter fight showed that Garner can't rely solely on his skills to win fights. McSweegan's hands are incredibly dangerous, so if Garner doesn't bring his A game, he's going to be caught, and McSweegan, like Munter, will make a name for himself at Garner's expense.
Randy Carsley vs Nathan Chambers
These two welterweights have had very different careers in GAMMA, but are both among the top welterweights in the division. Carsley has quietly been establishing himself as an excellent submission fighter and striker, but has stayed out of the spotlight has he amassed a 10-3 record. Chambers has wins over top welterweights like Julio Reguiero and Eli Harris, but also has more losses than Carsley. Chambers is an incredible athlete with very dangerous hands, and Carsley's chin has been the reason for his three losses, so Chambers will have the advantage if the fight stays off the ground.
Leon Banks vs Ricky Heath
Banks hasn't fought since losing his light heavyweight title to Mike Watson, and has spent the past four and a half months preparing for his return. His opponent Heath is also a former champion, who is looking to try to regain the level of success he had in 1996 and 1997. Heath's strengths lie in his ground game, where he is nearly impossible to submit and is deadly when in control on the ground. His striking is very predictable, however, and could be easily countered by someone like Banks. Banks is unstoppable when striking, but has yet to win a fight by knock out. Heath should try to capitalize on this lack of finish and try to take Banks off his feet if he wants to have any success here.
Chojiro Goto vs Jim Carpenter
This fight was made as a result of the disappointing performance of both fighters since arriving in GAMMA. Carpenter was given a title shot after his first win over Jack Humphreys and was considered to be a future main event fighter in which ever weight class he chose. Since then, Carpenter has dropped down to lightweight and has lost three fights in a row. Goto was signed with a 10-5 record and was given a fight against the 4-7 Liam O'Donnell. Goto proceeded to lose by unanimous decision and has since been labeled a disappointment. With this fight, one of these two fighters will leave with a win and can hopefully begin to live up to the expectations they have for them. The lightweight division needs another big name, and either of these men could fill that role, so this could be the turning point for either of them.
Thomas Smith vs Eddie Whelan
Smith has struggled in the heavyweight division for years, having the skills to be considered a top fighter, but falling short against GAMMA's big name heavyweights, and has never seen the kind of success he would in another company. With losses at the hands of Steve Mason, Rick Stanley, Shane Gilchrist and Fatuma Roy, among others, the list of opponents who have beaten Smith reads like a who's who in the heavyweight division. Whelan has failed to make much of an impact in GAMMA, with a record of 2-2 since arriving, and has been largely forgotten in the world-class division. Neither of these men can afford a loss here, and need to prove that they deserve to be in the same league as legends like Stanley, Gilchrist and Tim Boyer. Whelan is lethal up close, with vicious knees and kicks in his arsenal and he has the ability to inflict major damage in the clinch, which has always been a weakness for Smith. Smith will need to get this fight on the ground and control his opponent from there, but Whelan is difficult to take off his feet, so it will likely be an uphill battle for Smith.
Peter Bracewell vs Noach Van Der Capellen
This will be a difficult fight for both fighters, as they have both struggled in their most recent fights. Capellen hasn't fought in over a year, following four consecutive losses, and will face a powerful opponent in Bracewell. Capellan was knocked out in his last two fights, and Bracewell is more than capable of putting his opponents to sleep, so Capellan will have to be quick on his feet. Bracewell has lost his last two fights as well, and has expressed his frustration in recent interviews. He has the skills to be a champion, but has struggled against opponents like Julio Reguiero, Eli Harris and Darin Blood. In the first fight between these two fighters, Bracewell won via submission, so it will be interesting to see whether a similar strategy is taken, or if Bracewell will prefer to stand up and throw.
Teppo Severi vs Linfield Ballard
The elder Linfield brother has struggled in recent years, developing a 14-14 record and losing most recently to Neil Napier and Maarten De Vries in back to back fights. His opponent at GAMMA 41 will be Severi, a rookie who stands only 5'3. This will be Severi's first official MMA fight, but people who have trained with him have noted his strong chin and impressive physical strength, coupled with his grappling skills, perhaps due to his low center of gravity. This fight is a perfect opportunity for Severi to prove himself to GAMMA fans, who will be able to dominate Ballard with his wrestling, but will need to be careful if he wants to exchange with him standing up. A loss for Ballard would be devastating, and could result in his exit from GAMMA.
The blurcat predictions will be up shortly, so stay tuned.

The main event stood out as the fight of the night, in spite of its length. Other highlights are as follows:
Following his win, Rav Kapur lay down a challenge for Tim Boyer later in the year. This is a massive fight, and the fans reacted accordingly when the challenge was made.
Garner and Banks looked equally upset with their losses. Neither were necessarily upsets, but they were both favorites to win.
During the show, it was announced that a new reality series would be taking place over the next few months called GAMMA: The Contender. The show will focus on MMA newcomers who will live together in a house and train with some of the best fighters in the world. They will compete weekly and fights will take place every episode until the two finalists meet on an upcoming show. This is very exciting news, as it opens GAMMA up to a whole new audience.
GAMMA 42: Watson vs Jenks will be headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between Mike Watson and Drew Jenks. The rest of the card will follow later.

Before we get to Blurcat's predictions, I have found out that Will Kane, previously announced as Andrew Rush's next opponent, has made the decision to fight as a welterweight. The fight with Rush may still happen, if they can agree on a fight weight, but beyond that, Kane is a welterweight. The two names blacked out on the rankings are apparently new fighters that have yet to be announced. I would expect to hear something at the show later.
Mike Watson (12-3) vs Drew Jenks (10-7) Mike Watson via decision
Rick Stanley (25-15-3) vs Lefter Oktay (13-6) Lefter Oktay via KO
Kenny Magilton III (10-8) vs Liam O'Donnell (5-7) Liam O'Donnell via TKO

JJ Reid (19-7) vs Daniel Hornsby (12-8) Daniel Hornsby via TKO
Faas Smit (10-6) vs Elgar (18-10-1) Faas Smit via TKO
Jack Humphreys (14-12) vs Alan Kendall (12-10) Jack Humphreys via submission
Broken_Heartagram

Here are the results from GAMMA 42: Watson vs Jenks
Jack Humphreys vs Alan Kendall
Humphreys is riding the momentum of his first win in 13 fights, and he looked like a completely different fighter here. Humphreys' hand speed and technique overwhelmed Kendall, who spent most of the fight desperately trying to defend himself. In the end, the judges agreed that Humphreys was the better fighter. Jack Humphreys wins via decision
Faas Smit vs Elgar
Elgar lost his last fight to Mike Watson, while Smit hasn't fought since August of last year, so neither fighter had any kind of momentum coming into this fight. Both fighters were eager to strike, and the first round was very eagerly matched. Late in the second round, Smit showed why his impressive striking skills with a huge counter-punch which leveled Elgar, ending the fight shortly after. Faas Smit wins via TKO 3:58 2nd Round
JJ Reid vs Daniel Hornsby
Hornsby was the odds on favorite going into this fight despite his current record, but he had his work cut out for him against Reid. For the first two rounds, Reid controlled Hornsby with his fantastic wrestling skills, and Hornsby showed how limited his skills are on the ground. After two failed submission attempts, Reid finally locked in a guillotine in the third round, and Hornsby had no choice but to tap. JJ Reid wins via guillotine submission :44 3rd Round
Zvonomir Asanovic vs Jethro Munter
Munter is still building off his monumental win over Buddy Garner, and hoped to get another big win against Asanovic. From the onset of this fight, Asanovic controlled the pace with a series of hard kicks, keeping Munter at a distance while inflicting damage. This continued for three rounds, and Munter was unable to deliver any kind of damage, so the judges had no choice but to end Munter's streak. Zvonimir Asanovic wins via decision
Inejiro Chiba vs Frank Sheedy
Shocking upset here, as Sheedy leveled Chiba in the opening minutes of the fight. Chiba looked incredibly confident going into the fight, and likely underestimated Sheedy. The knockout punch came from out of nowhere, and Chiba looked to have escaped without injury, but Sheedy looked good out there. Whether he will be able to turn this into a series of wins remains to be seen. Frank Sheedy wins via TKO 1:31 1st Round
Matthew Dean vs Eli Harris
Harris looked as good as he ever has in this fight, despite his recent loss to Ricardo Fernandes, and the result reflected that. Harris was able to avoid Dean's attacks, waiting for the opportunity to strike, and then dropping Dean with a huge right hand. If Harris can string a handful of wins together, he will be ready for a title shot. Eli Harris wins via TKO 2:34 1st Round
Bryan Van Den Hauwe vs Carl Ratcliffe
This fight was very well balanced, and it was finally decided on the ground. Each fighter won a round, and the third started with a takedown by Ratcliffe, but Van Den Hauwe quickly proved that he was the dominant fighter on the ground, and reversed the mount into an armbar attempt. Ratcliffe spent the rest of the round desperately fighting off the submission, and lost the fight as a result. Bryan Van Den Hauwe wins via decision
Kenny Magilton III vs Liam O'Donnell
Both of these men have defied the odds lately, with Magilton beating Jim Carpenter and silencing his critics, while Liam O'Donnell recently got a win over Chojiro Goto. O'Donnell's stand up looked impressive in this fight, and got in several good shots throughout, but Magilton's striking was too powerful and left O'Donnell reeling on several occasions. Magilton will definitely advance in the rankings after this fight. Kenny Magilton III wins via decision
Rick Stanley vs Lefter Oktay
Stanley has struggled lately, and an opponent like Oktay was not going to help matters. Within minutes, Oktay's striking proved to be too much for Stanley, and before long the ref was pulling Oktay off of a semi-conscious Stanley. Oktay has put together enough wins over top names to be considered for a future title shot, and as it stands, he is currently the only person who has an unavenged win over Tim Boyer. Lefter Oktay wins via TKO 4:06 1st Round
Mike Watson vs Drew Jenks
Jenks looked good here, but Watson is one of the best light heavyweights in the world and he proved that again tonight. Jenks made the strange decision to try to stand up with Watson, or maybe never felt as though he had an opportunity to take this fight to the mat. Watson controlled the pace throughout, and came very close to finishing the fight on several occasions. From here, Watson could face any number of opponents, so this fight may be the easiest title defense he will have from now on. Mike Watson wins via decision
It was announced that Truck Gleeson and Jay Dorridge had signed with GAMMA and will be fighting shortly. They were the two names that were blacked out on the new rankings, which will be changed shortly. No matches were announced for GAMMA 43: Blackout, but it shouldn't be long before the main event is announced.

Here are the results from GAMMA 43: Blackout:
Ashley Ballard vs Owen Hyde
This was a battle between two strikers, but it became clear very early on that Ballard possesses more skills than the average puncher. Ballard easily dodged the majority of Hyde's offense, making him look completely ineffective as a striker, and Ballard responded with quick and accurate punches of his own. Ballard got the easy decision win, but it would've been nice to see him get a TKO win, as he certainly earned it. Ashley Ballard wins via decision
Randy Carsley vs Will Kane
In Kane's first fight in GAMMA, he went up against the red hot Carsley. Kane was clearly going for a big knockout punch throughout this fight, but Carsley was able to hang back and counter most of Kane's offense. Carsley was particularly dominant in the opening minutes of the second, where he nearly knocked Kane out with a hard uppercut. Kane may have taken this fight lightly, and will have to reevaluate his career in GAMMA. Randy Carsley wins via decision
Thomas Smith vs Vincent Chapin
Smith has had success with his stand up game lately, but it was his wrestling that proved too much for Chapin. Following a first round where Smith controlled the fight with stiff kicks, Smith was able to mount Chapin, and finished him with strikes shortly after. Thomas Smith wins via TKO 1:28 2nd Round
Chojiro Goto vs Callum Henson
Goto looked good in his previous fight with Jim Carpenter, but was outclassed in the first two rounds of this fight, as Goto made several mistakes and looked clumsy at times. Early in the third, Henson connects with a punch that leaves Goto out on his feet. The ref quickly called the fight as doctors checked on Goto, who likely suffered a concussion. Callum Henson wins via TKO :39 3rd Round
Lloyd McAllister vs Neil Napier
Napier has had more success than his opponent recently, but McAllister did his best to prove why he is called the KO Kid. McAllister displayed his vicious striking skills, connecting with several shots in the first. The second saw Napier gain the advantage, but neither man was able to inflict any damage. In the third, McAllister put together a huge series of punches, overwhelming Napier. By the end, McAllister had proven to the judges that he can't be underestimated. Lloyd McAllister wins via decision
Anthony LeToussier vs Nick Detroit
Detroit seemed off his game tonight, and was unable to fend off the impressive offense of LeToussier. LeToussier was the aggressor throughout the fight, and his striking was near perfect. All LeToussier needs to do now, is string a few wins together and he will be the top contender in the light heavyweight division. Anthony LeToussier wins via decision
Shane Gilchrist vs Eddie Whelan
After Gilchrist's knockout loss to Tim Boyer, it's easy to forget just how good he is. Whelan did his best to stand up with Gilchrist, but he was overpowered by the punching power of Gilchrist. The fight may not have been particularly good, but it proved that Gilchrist isn't going anywhere for a long time. Shane Gilchrist wins via decision
Luis Basora vs Ricardo Fernandes
This was a battle between two of the top welterweights in GAMMA, and both men showed how varied their skills were. Fernandes won the first two rounds with his impressive use of the clinch, and attempted to do the same in the third, but was unable to control Basora, who then unloaded with several hard shots which eventually knocked Fernandes out. Luis Basora wins via KO 3:43 3rd Round

After a brief change of style, I will be going back to the old method of reporting the events in GAMMA, starting with the upcoming episode of GAMMA Unleashed. In the meantime, here are the highlights from GAMMA 44: Captivity:
-Buddy Garner made his successful return to the middleweight division, and looked great in his fight with Reid. Hopefully he'll have better success than his recent battles in the Light Heavyweight division.
-Jim Carpenter finally got a win in GAMMA over Simon Vine, in what has to be considered an upset. This is yet another blow for Vine, who has now lost two in a row.
-Darin Blood hit a snag in his conquest of the Lightweight division, as he was defeated by Luke Hilton. It remains to be seen whether Hilton will get yet another title shot or not.
-Truck Gleeson has made a huge debut in GAMMA, knocking out Nathan Chambers. If Gleeson keeps this up, it won't be long before he gets a title shot.
-The fight of the night was the main event, where Patrick Thomas successfully defended his title. Thomas' next fight will likely be against Fernando Amaro, but it could be months before that fight happens.
-Julio Reguiero was interviewed at ringside, who said he gave Eli Harris no chance of beating him at the upcoming episode of GAMMA Unleashed. He called Harris the most one dimensional fighter in GAMMA, which seemed to sit poorly with the Ohio crowd.
It was announced that the main event of GAMMA 45 will see the return of Steve Mason, in a rematch with Lefter Oktay. It is likely that there won't be a title fight, but one could be added as a sub-main event. Stay tuned for a preview of GAMMA Unleashed, as well as the rest of the card for GAMMA 45: Mason vs Oktay II.
Broken_Heartagram

Here is the full card for GAMMA Unleashed:
Julio Reguiero vs Eli Harris
The main event of GAMMA Unleashed will likely determine the new #1 contender for the Welterweight title. Reguiero has remained at the top of the division since losing his title and has been eager for another shot at the belt, but got off track when he was beaten by Nathan Chambers. Since that time, Reguiero has been fed Brandon Sugar, and faces his first real challenge in a year. Harris has done very well against lower ranked competitors in recent years, but has been unable to win big fights against Luis Basora and Ricardo Fernandes. If Harris could defeat Reguiero, he may have the momentum he needs to go on to win the Welterweight title. Reguiero was interviewed at GAMMA 44, where he said he would have no problem beating Harris and becoming the #1 contender, but we shall see if it is as easy as he says.
James Foster vs Frank Sheedy
Foster has had a turbulent year, defeating Shane Gilchrist before getting knocked out by Rav Kapur. With two of the best Heavyweights in the world fighting for the title later this year, and the return of Steve Mason looming, Foster will need a win here to keep his career on track. Sheedy is the underdog coming into this fight, but he is the master of the upset. Sheedy holds two wins over Steve Mason and, most recently, Inejiro Chiba, and Foster has struggled with "easy" opponents in the past. Obviously a win over Foster would be huge, and it would be Sheedy's fourth win in five fights.
Ricardo Evans vs Edward Collins
The match will crown the first winner of GAMMA: The Contender, and will introduce the newest member of the Lightweight division. Evans and Collins had very different strategies and fighting styles throughout the show, as Collins relied on his wrestling skills to control opponents, while Evans preferred to stand up and fight. This fight should be decided on whether Collins can take Evans off his feet, but with such little exposure, either of these fighters could have something up their sleeve that we're not aware of.
Bryan Van Den Hauwe vs Teppo Severi
Van Den Hauwe finally halted a huge losing streak with a win over Carl Ratcliffe, and is desperate to continue some positive momentum. Severi looked decent in his first fight, but will need to show some potential in this fight if he wants to remain in GAMMA. Van Den Hauwe is excellent on the ground, and Severi hasn't shown any competency in takedown defense or submissions, so the fight could easily end there.
I'll be back later to discuss the show.

Here are the results from GAMMA Unleashed:
Julio Reguiero vs Eli Harris Eli Harris wins via TKO 3:46 3rd Round
James Foster vs Frank Sheedy James Foster wins via decision
GAMMA: The Contender Finals
Edward Collins vs Ricardo Evans Ricardo Evans wins via decision
Bryan Van Den Hauwe vs Teppo Severi Bryan Van Den Hauwe wins via decision
Some of the highlights from the show:
-Harris scored the upset win and silenced Reguiero with a TKO in the third round. Reguiero felt that the ref had stopped the fight too early, but it was clear the the lethal hands of Harris had done their job.
-Ricardo Evans is now the first winner of GAMMA: The Contender, and is the newest member of the lightweight division. Evans was able to keep the fight standing, taking Collins' best weapon away. Collins won the first round, but from then on, Evans used his striking to control the fight. After the fight, Scott Avatar entered the cage and congratulated Evans, presenting him with his GAMMA contract. Evans thanked Avatar and Collins, and promised he would fight again before the year end.
We're only a few weeks away from GAMMA 45: Mason vs Oktay II, so the full card should be up shortly.

Here is the full card for GAMMA 45: Mason vs Oktay II:
Steve Mason vs Lefter Oktay
Steve Mason finally returns to GAMMA, and looks to regain the momentum he had before being sidelined with an injury. Oktay lost to Mason in their first fight, and since then, Oktay has won three of his four last fights and has two KO victories. Oktay has been on a mission to get a rematch with Boyer, as he is now the only man to hold an unavenged win over the Heavyweight champion. If he were to beat Mason in such a high profile fight, he may just get his wish. A win for Mason would likely put him within a fight of getting a title shot, a thought which has likely fueled his recovery. Mason's biggest weakness lies in his submission defense, but Oktay's submission skills are fairly nonexistent, so Oktay will have to look for a lucky punch to win this fight.
Gabriel Gallego vs Peter Bracewell
These two welterweights have struggled lately, but are two of the most talented fighters in their division and are desperate to get back on track. Gallego will go down in history as the guy that ended Jack Humphreys' losing streak, suffering a knock out in the first round. Since then, he's taken six months training for his return, hoping to erase the Humphreys fight from the memory of the fans. Bracewell was once a dominant member of the Welterweight division, with wins over Eli Harris, Darin Blood and the current champion Luis Basora. More recently, he has lost four of his last six, including a loss to Gallego. Bracewell is arguably the more well rounded of the two, with both submission and knock out victories, but he has been off his A game for a long time. Avenging his loss to Gallego would likely get him back on track towards becoming one of the top ranked Welterweights in GAMMA.
Sean Morrison vs Charles Stiles
In the third rematch of the night, this is a battle between one of the best Lightweights in GAMMA and one of the most underrated. Morrison has been one of the most dominant Lightweights in the last five years, losing only to Mario de Souza and Luke Hilton, and has made short work of most of the division with his incredible ground control. In their first meeting, Morrison and Stiles went five rounds before Morrison was given the decision victory. This time, Stiles will try to use his phenomenal takedown and submission skills to finally get a win over Morrison. Morrison is coming off his loss to Hilton, and will be at his most vulnerable, so Stiles may be able to capitalize and get a huge win.
Michael Bannon vs Elgar
Bannon was quietly hired last month with little fanfare, likely because of his unimpressive 8-8 record. He will have to gain the respect of fans and matchmakers starting with this fight, where he will face the struggling Elgar. Elgar has lost his last two fights and before that he struggled to string more than a couple wins together, keeping him in the middle of the Light Heavyweight pack. Elgar has the grappling and takedown skills to beat Bannon, but he has looked lost in his last two fights, and may lack the focus to win over the unknown newcomer. Bannon has impressive ground and pound skills, and although he is coming off a loss, may be able to overwhelm Elgar and rack up his first win in GAMMA.
Linfield Ballard vs Lenny McFadden
The eldest Ballard's struggles have been well documented, and he was even the underdog in his fight with Teppo Severi. Ballard beat Severi, but it remains to be seen if that was a turning point for Ballard or if it was just a sign of how bad Severi was. McFadden hasn't fought since November of last year, and is coming off a string of losses to difficult opponents. McFadden's inability to defend against a striking opponent has gotten him into a lot of trouble lately, and it will likely be something Ballard tries to exploit. Alternatively, Ballard is largely useless when a fight goes to the ground, so McFadden will try to take him off his feet early on.
Matthew Dean vs Bruno Epps
Dean had just begun getting his career back on track with back to back wins when he was beaten by Eli Harris. Epps has only won once in the past five years, and rarely fights these days, but his win was over Gabriel Gallego in a fight where he was given no chance to win. It's a similar situation in this fight, as Dean is the odds on favorite to win, despite his recent loss. A win for Epps would be a huge jump, perhaps even into the top ten rankings, but such a result is highly unlikely.
Marcus Speed vs Jay Dorridge
In the second debut fight of the night, Dorridge faces his first opponent in GAMMA. Dorridge was hired alongside Truck Gleeson and is coming off of a win in the previous company he worked for. He is one of the best takedown specialists in the division, and has shown that he can control nearly anyone on the ground. Speed is a dangerous striker who can also defend submissions. Dorridge will have to be particularly dangerous if he wants to get Speed off his feet, but will need to in order to avoid his dangerous kicks.
Rick Stanley vs Fatuma Roy
Stanley looks to be near the end of his career, judging by his recent performances, and will have to contend with Roy, currently the #2 ranked Heavyweight in GAMMA and one of the few people Stanley has never fought. Stanley isn't even ranked anymore, and holds few wins over top ranked fighters. Roy will look to continue his dominance over nearly every Heavyweight in GAMMA, while Stanley will have to protect his weak chin against such a dangerous striker. The only area where Stanley has Roy beat is in the clinch, but Roy should be able to avoid such a situation.
Garry McSweegan vs Drew Jenks
Since coming to GAMMA, McSweegan has established himself as a dangerous competitor, with quick and deadly hands, and a strong chin, but has yet to show what he can do on the ground. He will get his biggest challenge in this fight against Jenks, who is an established wrestler with an incredible chin. McSweegan will need to keep his distance from Jenks and overwhelm him with punches, but Jenks can beat McSweegan in a variety of ways and is in the best shape of his career. Jenks needs this win to remain near the top of the division, while McSweegan is eager to continue his rise up the ranks.
I'll be back shortly with the Blurcat predictions.

GAMMA 45: Mason vs Oktay II has just ended, and here are the results:
Steve Mason vs Lefter Oktay Lefter Oktay wins via decision
Gabriel Gallego vs Peter Bracewell Gabriel Gallego wins via decision
Sean Morrison vs Charles Stiles Sean Morrison wins via TKO 1:35 3rd Round
Michael Bannon vs Elgar Elgar wins via TKO 2:24 1st Round
Linfield Ballard vs Lenny McFadden Lenny McFadden wins via TKO 1:40 2nd Round
Matthew Dean vs Bruno Epps Bruno Epps wins via decision
Marcus Speed vs Jay Dorridge Marcus Speed wins via TKO 1:57 3rd Round
Rick Stanley vs Fatuma Roy Fatuma Roy wins via decision
Garry McSweegan vs Drew Jenks Garry McSweegan wins via TKO 1:22 2nd Round
Here are some of the highlights:
Two of the most one-sided fights we have ever seen in GAMMA, as Gallego beat Bracewell with a unanimous 30-25 decision, while Roy beat Stanley 30-26. There are rumors that Stanley will either sit out the rest of his contract or be released entirely, but I have received no confirmation from anyone in GAMMA.
Steve Mason was visibly upset after failing to defeat Lefter Oktay in his comeback fight. Mason's path to the title was clearly laid out if he could have beaten Oktay, but now he'll have to wait and see what happens with Boyer, Kapur and potentially Oktay now.
The fight of the night was between Sean Morrison and Charles Stiles. Stiles was actually winning the fight going into the third round, but eventually succumbed to the heavy hands of Morrison.
In addition to losing his first fight in GAMMA, Michael Bannon also suffered a concussion in his loss to Elgar. No word on how long he'll be out, but its safe to say that his debut hasn't gone as planned.
Charles Stiles and Garry McSweegan also suffered minor injuries, but they shouldn't miss too much time.
GAMMA 46: Mind Games was announced, but no fights have been made public yet. I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything, so stay tuned.

The card for GAMMA 46: Mind Games will be announced shortly, but in the meantime, there have been two big announcements:
Tony McCall has announced that he will be dropping down to fight in the middleweight division. This is big news, particularly because McCall is a former Heavyweight, and no one else in GAMMA has made such a dramatic change in weight. It will be interesting to see if he has any more success as a middleweight than he's had over the last few years.
Scott Avatar made a huge announcement today, revealing that Kunimichi Kikuchi had signed a long term deal. Kikuchi currently holds a 22-3 record and will be a dangerous addition to the heavyweight division. Kikuchi will make his debut at GAMMA 46, but we'll have to wait for the card to be revealed to see who his opponent will be.

GAMMA 46: Mind Games
Zvonimir Asanovic vs John Rivero
Broken_Heartagram
01-12-2008, 04:57 AM
Here is the full card for GAMMA 46: Mind Games:
Zvonimir Asanovic vs John Rivero
GAMMA 46 features three Light Heavyweight fights, and this is the most important of the three. Rivero was long considered to be the next in line for a title shot, with a win over the current champion Mike Watson and an incredible 17-3 record, but he'll have to go through Asanovic first. Asanovic is currently on a five fight winning streak and has been a dangerous competitor since losing the Light Heavyweight title. Scott Avatar has said that the winner of this fight will become the #1 contender for Mike Watson's title, so there's a lot on the line here. Asanovic is one of the best strikers in the division, and has an incredible chin. His wide range of submissions makes him an incredibly wide-ranged fighter. Rivero's strengths are identical to Asanovic's, as his Sambo background has given him an amazing array of submissions, as well as lethal striking. Rivero may have the edge in terms of controlling opponents on the ground, and will likely try to use that to his advantage to set up a submission win.
Giovani Silva vs Luke Hilton
This will conclude the trilogy between these two fighters, and it will likely be Hilton's last title opportunity while Silva has the belt. Hilton has beaten some of the division's best, including two wins over Sean Morrision, using his hybrid fighting style to dominate his opponents with his fists in any situation. Silva's last loss was to Hilton, but since then he has won his last nine fights, including a rematch with Hilton. If he is able to beat Hilton again, he will have neutralized the #2 ranked Lightweight in GAMMA, and will only have to worry about a potential challenge from Morrison.
Kunimichi Kikuchi vs Raul Hughes
This is the GAMMA debut of Kikuchi, a 22-3 wrestler with deadly striking abilities. He's going up against Hughes, an ex-boxer who has made a career with his legendary hand speed and knock out ability. Hughes' skills are fairly one-dimensional, however, which Kikuchi may be able to expose, as he has knock out wins using his knees and feet as well. If Hughes wants to win here, he will have to attack the GAMMA rookie quickly and try to overwhelm him with punches.
Carl Ratcliffe vs Lloyd McAllister
Ratcliffe has struggled lately, with his only win in the last year coming from Daniel Hornsby, a fighter who failed to win during his short stint in GAMMA. The Middleweight division is starting to become the most shallow in GAMMA, and Ratcliffe has an opportunity to climb the ranks if he can beat the #7 ranked McAllister. 'The KO Kid' is riding a two fight win streak at the moment, and a win over the unranked Ratcliffe would do little other than add to his streak. McAllister's last fight was his only career win to not come from a KO, leading many to think the 10-8 has lost his edge, so he will need to come out swinging if he wants to remain a threat in the eyes of his fellow fighters and fans.
Doug Hansen vs Nathan Chambers
This fight is between two of GAMMA's best welterweights, although their records may suggest otherwise. Chambers has a very average 13-8 record, but he is one of only three fighters to defeat Julio Reguiero, and has wins over Eli Harris, Luis Basora and Simon Vine. His recent string of losses came from some of the division's best, like Randy Carsley, Gabriel Gallego and the newcomer Truck Gleeson. Chambers has the skills to win any fight, as he has incredible defensive skills as well as heavy hands. Hansen won his first two fights in GAMMA and was considered a shoe in for an eventual title shot before getting knocked out by Matthew Dean in the first round of their fight during the most recent episode of GAMMA Full Force. Hansen wants to use this fight as a way of erasing that loss from the minds of fans and getting back on track towards a title opportunity. Hansen's striking is as impressive as Chambers', and is nearly impossible to take off his feet. This should be a world class defensive battle, which could quite possibly end in a knock out.
Inejiro Chiba vs Eddie Whelan
Chiba makes his return to GAMMA following a shocking loss to Frank Sheedy. With the debut of 'Unstoppable K' on the same show, adding one of the world's best Heavyweights to an already crowded division, Chiba will need a win to avoid being overlooked or even released in the future. Whelan has a 3-3 record in GAMMA and is currently relying on his impressive MMA record to remain in the top echelon of Heavyweights in GAMMA. A win is a must for both of these fighters, and the question is simply who has the better skills to get a win. Whelan's Muay Thai background has provided him with vicious knees in the clinch, as well as dangerous kicks while standing. Chiba relies more on his quick hands and strong chin to win fights, so it will be interesting to see if Whelan can get in close enough to Chiba to get the clinch, or if Chiba will be able to keep his distance and avoid the feet of his opponent.
Anthony LeToussier vs Jethro Munter
In our second big Light Heavyweight fight, Munter is being given one last chance at stardom in a fight against the Kick Boxer LeToussier. Munter shocked the world at GAMMA 38 when he knocked out Buddy Garner, a fighter everyone assumed would eventually go on to win the title. Munter followed that up with a knock out win over Tony McCall, prompting McCall to drop down to Middleweight. The streak was eventually ended by Zvonimir Asanovic, but Munter wants to prove that his success was more than dumb luck. A win over LeToussier would put Munter closer to a title shot than he's ever been, and would give him the confidence to perhaps shock the world again. LeToussier's inability to beat Mike Watson on two different occasions prevented him from achieving any major success, but a string of five wins in 1999 brought him back up to the top of the division. If he is able to beat Munter, he will be one of the top ranked fighters in the division. Munter's knock out power has been proven, but LeToussier's kicks are extremely dangerous, and he is very difficult to take down. Munter is very strong, but LeToussier may be too difficult to take off his feet, limiting Munter's offense.
Kenny Magilton III vs Mario de Souza
de Souza makes his return to GAMMA after recovering from an injury that has kept him out of action for the past nine months. As we saw with the return of Steve Mason last month, it is difficult to predict how a fighter will return from a long term injury, but it can't get any worse than de Souza's career was before he got hurt. In his last seven fights, de Souza has only won two, although he is among a very small group of fighters that can say they have beaten Sean Morrison more than once. In addition to his submission skills and physical strength, de Souza has always been known for his conditioning, so it will be interesting to see if the time off has affected his ability to last three rounds. Magilton has seen success lately, after being called out on various sites including this one for embodying a lackluster division and undeserving of title opportunities. Magilton has won his last two fights, beating Jim Carpenter and Liam O'Donnell, and is looking to add a vulnerable de Souza to his list. Magilton's submission defense should shut de Souza, and his conditioning is a proven asset. De Souza will have a tough job ahead of him in his return.
Will Kane vs Truck Gleeson
Two of GAMMA's newest Welterweights will face each other here, as the 8-1 Gleeson squares off with the 12-6 Kane. Kane's debut in GAMMA was unsuccessful, losing to Randy Carsley, but he is still one of the most talented fighters in the division. He is as solid as a rock on his feet, and can knock opponents out with his hands. He will attempt to do so against a man who has only been beaten once, and not only has heavy hands, but an extensive Muay Thai background as well. Neither fighter is easy to take off their feet, so it will likely be a slutfest, ending when one of these fighters hits the canvas.
Leon Banks vs Nick Detroit
The third Light Heavyweight fight features Banks, a fighter who has fallen apart since losing the title. Banks has been knocked out in three straight fights, but is looking to try to reset his career, fighting the last opponent he beat. Detroit hasn't had consistent success since early 1999, and has lost his last two fights. If he can beat Banks and avenge that loss, he may be able to get fights against some of the division's best and begin to move into the top ten. Detroit will have an uphill battle against the raw power of Banks, but his decent punches and kicks may keep the struggling Banks at bay long enough to get a win.
I'll be back later with Blurcat's predictions, so stay tuned.

Leon Banks vs Nick Detroit Leon Banks wins via decision
Here are some of the highlights:
Leon Banks seems to be back on track after his win over Nick Detroit, but we'll have to see how he does against an opponent he hasn't already beaten.
The shock of the night came when Hughes knocked 'Unstoppable K' out in 15 seconds. Scott Avatar was noticeably pleased after the fight, and when asked about it at the post-fight press conference, he said that fighters who come to GAMMA thinking they`re the best in the world are usually in for the surprise of their lifetime when they see what we have to offer. This seemed to be aimed at the 35-0 Hassan Fezzik, a man Avatar refuses to address by name. When the Kapur/Boyer fight finally happens, we`ll see if Avatar`s sentiments pertain to any new talent coming in, or merely those who come from Alpha-1.
After successfully defending his title from Luke Hilton, Giovani Silva praised Hilton for the effort he put forth, but seemed content knowing that he would not have to face the Hillbilly Hammer for his Lightweight title again.
John Rivero is now confirmed to be the next person to face Mike Watson for the Light Heavyweight title, although a date hasn`t been set.
During the show, there were two announcements. First, Bixente Fontaine will be joining the already stacked Welterweight division beginning immediately. We`ll have to wait and see if he gets a fight on the next card. Speaking of which, GAMMA 47: All or Nothing will be taking place next month in Ohio, and will feature a Welterweight title fight between the champion Luis Basora and Randy Carsley. The rest of the card should be announced soon.
Broken_Heartagram
01-15-2008, 02:54 AM
Here is the full card for GAMMA 47: All or Nothing:
Luis Basora vs Randy Carsley
This title fight will be between the best Welterweights in GAMMA, and is the first title defense for Basora where people are betting against him. Carsley has been on a tear lately, winning six of his last seven fights and amassing a 12-3 record. The fighters that he is ranked above are a who's who of Welterweight fighters, including former champions Ichisake Miyagi, Julio Reguiero and Ricardo Fernandes, and Carsley is looking to add Basora to that list. As a submission wrestler, Carsley has yet to win a fight with a submission, but has easily controlled his opponents on the ground and, in a few cases, has knocked opponents out with a vicious head kick. Basora has strung together one of the best winning streaks in GAMMA and has recently beaten Eli Harris, Miyagi and Fernandes, and is arguably the only fighter who is more dangerous in a variety of styles than Carsley. Basora has knock out and submission victories, and is an unmovable object on his feet. Basora has also never been submitted, either in a real fight or in training, so Carsley will need to either shock the world with his submission skills, or look to finish the fight standing.
Stuart Strange vs Neil Napier
These two fighters are on the cusp of becoming a threat to the Middleweight title, and will be looking to use each other as stepping stones. Napier is a former Middleweight champion who has never been able to regain the kind of success he once had. The closest Napier has had to a title shot in three years was the fight against Maarten De Vries at the end of a four fight winning streak. Napier lost, and has now lost two in a row. Strange is arguably the most hated fighter in GAMMA, thanks to his big mouth, and was rarely taken seriously. Things changed when he won four of his five fights in 1998, losing only to the current champion Patrick Thomas. Since then, Strange has been close to a title shot, but needs a big win to get there. A win over Napier would likely be all Strange needs to be considered a title contender. Both Napier and Strange have won the majority of their fights with knock outs, and both have extensive submission and takedown defense skills. As I see it, neither fighter has an advantage over the other, which should make for a very entertaining fight.
Ricky Heath vs Drew Jenks
Heath is a former Light Heavyweight champion who has nearly fallen into obscurity since losing his title. Although he is one of only three fighters to have a victory over Mike Watson, he has been unable to earn a second shot at the current champion. Jenks has struggled to maintain a winning record over the past 5 years, but does hold victories over fighters like Anthony LeToussier and Nick Detroit. If he were to beat Heath, it could lead to being ranked as one of the top ten Light Heavyweights in GAMMA, and it would prevent his record from slipping to 10-10. Jenks is obviously known for his exceptional wrestling abilities, and has proven that he can take a punch. Heath relies on his ability to take his opponent to the mat, and while that may seem to give Jenks the advantage, Heath did beat him early in 1997, so he has found a weakness in Jenks' takedown defense before.
Chojiro Goto vs Darin Blood
With Luke Hilton out of the title picture, Silva's next opponent will likely be either Sean Morrison, Mario de Souza or, provided he wins here, Blood. Since dropping down to Lightweight, Blood looked on pace to become one of the best Lightweights in GAMMA after a decisive victory over Callum Henson, only to be knocked out by Luke Hilton. A win over Goto would put him back on track, and although he wouldn't be the first choice to fight Silva, he would be a contender. Goto has struggled since arriving in GAMMA, only winning one of his three fights and recently also losing to Henson. Goto is now unranked, but a win over Blood would change all that. Goto has both the striking skills and the takedown defense to shut down any offense that Blood could produce, but Blood's hands are incredibly dangerous and could overwhelm Goto.
Steve Mason vs Shane Gilchrist
After losing his comeback fight, Mason will now face Gilchrist in a fight that was supposed to happen early last year. After Mason was injuried while training for the fight, his friend Marvin Stevens stepped up to face Gilchrist. In a page taken out of one of the Rocky movies, Gilchrist destroyed Stevens, spending all three rounds picking his opponent apart as Mason watched from ringside. Originally this fight was going to happen if Mason won his comeback fight, but both parties were eager to face each other, regardless of the Oktay fight's result. Mason has become one of the most popular fighters in GAMMA thanks to his incredibly powerful strikes and charisma. Recently, hasn't had the same kind of success he experienced early in his career, recently suffering back to back losses to Tim Boyer and Thomas Smith. Considering the number of world-class fighters in GAMMA, another loss would relegate Mason to the background, perhaps making a future title shot impossible. Gilchrist has never shown any kind of ability to take down or submit his opponents, which is good for Mason, as that means this fight will likely stay standing where Mason is most dangerous. Gilchrist has knocked several opponents out, however, so it will hardly be a cakewalk for the 'Urban Cowboy.'
Buddy Garner vs Andrew Rush
Both of these fighters are among the best Middleweights in the world who both still have a lot to prove before getting a title shot. Garner was at one time one of the best Light Heavyweights in GAMMA, with a six fight winning streak, and was within a fight of getting a shot against Mike Watson, before getting knocked out by Jethro Munter in a shocking upset. Shortly after, Garner has returned to the Middleweight division in an effort to get a fresh start and won his first Middleweight fight. Rush joined GAMMA with a 16-1 record and won his first two fights. On the night that Will Kane, the man who served Rush with his only loss, was to be announced as Rush's next opponent, he lost to Fernando Amaro. Both Scott Avatar and Rush were devastated by the loss, and Rush turned down several fight offers after finally agreeing to fight and eventually beat Stuart Strange. Now he has an opportunity to get back on track towards a title shot. Rush has incredible kicks, and is very comfortable on the ground, particularly at gaining control when taken down. Garner is an accomplished striker on his own, and possesses fantastic submission skills that will give Rush a serious run for his money.
Ichisake Miyagi vs Ricardo Fernandes
The #3 and #4 ranked Welterweights in GAMMA will face off for the second time here, and the winner likely won't have to wait long for a shot at the title. Since returning to GAMMA, Miyagi has dominated the division, winning the title almost immediately and recently ended Jack Humphreys' winning streak. Similarly, Fernandes has been practically unstoppable since coming to GAMMA, losing only to the current champion Luis Basora and Miyagi. Fernandes is also a former champion, but would need an impressive win here before he would be considered for another shot, considering his recent loss to Basora. Miyagi would likely leapfrog the loser of tonight's main event with a win. Miyagi beat Fernandes with a TKO the first time, and will likely use his impressive ground skills to repeat history. Fernandes is one of the best Muay Thai fighters in MMA, and his striking is beyond deadly. The majority of Fernandes' wins come from knock outs, so he'll want to stay standing and throw his trademark kicks or get Miyagi in a clinch.
Faas Smit vs Ashley Ballard
Not much to say for this one, as it features two struggling fighters in a crowded division. Smit has a solid 11-6 record, but the majority of his wins came from opponents that weren't good enough to stay in GAMMA. Whenever he is given a big fight, he tends to blow it, as we saw in his fights with John Rivero, Buddy Garner and Zvonimir Asanovic. Ballard has gone from a 3-0 record in 1996 to a 7-6-1 record four years later. As with his older brother, Ballard has struggled to maintain his spot in GAMMA, failing to win any big fights. Ballard is currently coming off a win, and a second would mark the first time that he had back to back wins. Smit is also coming off a win, and another would likely set him up for a more prominent fight. Smit has heavy hands and is difficult to control on the ground, while Ballard can easily match Smit's striking with his hands and feet, but struggles on the ground.
Callum Henson vs Jim Carpenter
Henson has been pushed to the background with the surge of new talent to the Lightweight division, but remains one of the best of the original GAMMA Lightweights. He has wins over Luke Hilton, Charles Stiles, and Beau Gorshin to name a few, and is still a top ten ranked fighter. Carpenter has only won twice since arriving in GAMMA, despite his impressive career record. He did look good in his last fight against Simon Vine, where he won a unanimous decision. Before coming to GAMMA, Carpenter did have a five fight win streak going, and if the Vine fight was any indication, he may have hit his stride again. Carpenter's best asset is his killer instinct, knowing when to move in to finish opponents off. His strong chin will be tested by Henson's heavy hands, but Henson's weak striking defense could leave the door open for a Carpenter knock out punch.
Thomas Smith vs Tank Manu'a
Manu'a has joined the GAMMA Heavyweight division without any kind of announcement, which was apparently something he asked for, and will look to impress the fans in his fight against Smith. The rumor is that after watching 'Unstoppable K' get embarassed, Manu'a wants to wait and see how he fares in GAMMA before beginning to hype himself. Manu'a is a great ground and pound fighter, and if he can get Smith off his feet, will likely dominate him into a TKO win. Smith is also dominant on the ground, but the 50+ pound weight advantage, Manu'a may prove too much for Smith.
Ricardo Evans vs Liam O'Donnell
This will be Evans' first fight since winning the first season of GAMMA: The Contender, and it will be against the 5-8 O'Donnell. Unlike Evans' first opponent, O'Donnell prefers to stand up and strike, with solid punching and knee power. While this will guarantee that Evans will stay on his feet and in his element, he'll have to battle a more experienced striker. Evans' chin will certainly be put to the test, but if he can overcome this challenge, he will be on his way to bigger and better fights.
I'll be right back with the Blurcat predictions.

Here are some of the highlights:
The crowd wasn't happy following the Mason/Gilchrist fight, and Mason didn't say much following the fight. No idea where Mason will go from here, but right now he's being used as a stepping stone.
Incredible back and forth between Goto and Blood, and will be a huge boost for Goto. Both fighters suffered injuries, but Goto will be the only fighter to miss a significant amount of time. Hopefully he won't lose the momentum gained by such a big win.
After the main event, Scott Avatar entered the cage and finally made the announcement everyone has been waiting for. Two spotlights appeared in the ring on either side of Avatar, and as Avatar announced the next event, Tim Boyer and Rav Kapur stepped into the light and faced each other. The crowd blew the roof off the building, knowing that this fight was finally going to happen. Boyer had the Heavyweight title over his shoulder and he patted it while Avatar was speaking, which led Kapur to smirk and nod at Boyer. The show went off the air with the two fighters staring each other down. GAMMA 48: Boyer vs Kapur is next month, and it features the biggest Heavyweight title fight in GAMMA's history.

Just a brief update here. The Contender 2 has been announced and the first episode will air next week. The first season of The Contender put 16 Lightweights in competition with one another, with the winner receiving a contract. Ricardo Evans won the show and is now a regular part of GAMMA's Lightweight division. This season, Middleweights will be competing for a shot at fame and fortune, only this time they're going to have some help. The current champion Patrick Thomas and Fernando Amaro have been named as coaches on the show, and they will meet in a title fight after the season finale. If you were a fan of the first season, this should be even better.

From now on, because I feel like it, I'll be listing each event's official theme song from now on. Without further ado, here is the full card for GAMMA 48: Boyer vs Kapur:
GAMMA 48: Boyer vs Kapur
Official Theme Song: "Iron Tusk" by Mastodon
Tim Boyer vs Rav Kapur
This is being billed as the biggest main event in GAMMA history, but even if you disagree, you can't argue that this should be incredible. Boyer has been unstoppable since winning the Heavyweight title for the second time, and has amassed one of the best records in GAMMA. Injuries have begun to slow his career down, but he still looks as dangerous as ever. Kapur is the new phenom in MMA, currently holding a 13-0 record with a recent knock out victory over James Foster. According to Scott Avatar, if anyone in the world is going to take the Heavyweight title off of Boyer, it's going to be Kapur. All of Kapur's fights have ended in knock out or, in one case, a submission, which is a testament to how dangerous a kick boxer he really is. Boyer hasn't had a fight end in decision in over five years, and has knocked out some of GAMMA's best with his lethal kicks. If nothing else, this should be a war between two of the best strikers in the world, and could honestly go either way.
Bixente Fontaine vs Eli Harris
After his shocking win over Julio Reguiero, Harris was supposed to get a title shot following the Luis Basora/Randy Carsley fight. After seeing Basora retain his title, Harris decided to hold off on a rematch and signed up for a risky fight with an unknown opponent. Harris has a two fight winning streak at the moment, and that could easily slip away, along with a title opportunity, if Fontaine surprises him. Fontaine is a kick boxer with a 12-6 record, who is coming off of a knock out loss. He is a powerful puncher, however, with outstanding conditioning and footwork. Harris has made a career out of overwhelming his opponents with his striking, but if Fontaine is able to keep moving, he may be able to draw Harris into a trap.
Lloyd McAllister vs Maarten De Vries
McAllister is on a rampage in the Middleweight division, and is looking to put away one of the division's best on his way to a title shot. Over the past year, McAllister has broadened his fighting style and has flourished, even getting his first submission victory. His newfound skills will be put to the test against De Vries, one of the best Middleweights in GAMMA. De Vries and McAllister have never fought, but De Vries has faced nearly everyone else in the division and has only lost to the current champion Patrick Thomas in the last four years. De Vries has only been knocked out once, but he has exposed his weak chin on a few occasions and has been known to be reckless at times, which is something McAllister will be looking to exploit. On the other hand, De Vries is a dangerous knock out artist in his own right, so if he can avoid McAllister's striking and counter with one of his kicks, the fight could be over.
Elgar vs Gary McSweegan
Since arriving in GAMMA, McSweegan has only lost one fight, and it was Elgar who handed him his only defeat. McSweegan wants to avenge his loss early, so he can go on to a future title shot with a virtually unblemished record. McSweegan is a talented striker with a perfect balance of quickness and power in his punches. He also possesses a very strong chin, making him a great stand up fighter. Elgar's strengths lie in his ability to take opponents off their feet and control them on the ground. While not the most exciting fighter to watch, he is technically sound and has won most of his fights by shutting down his opponents' offense. Elgar did it once, and now we'll see if he can do it again.
Jay Dorridge vs Charles Stiles
After a disappointing debut in GAMMA, Dorridge is hoping to get a huge win against Stiles. Stiles is coming off a loss to Sean Morrison, and has suffered back to back losses on three different occasions. This should be a close fight, as both men are very skilled at taking opponents down, but vary in their strategies once they are on the ground. Stiles prefers to submit opponents while Dorridge is great at maintaining control on the ground while working for a ground and pound win. Stiles could be one of the best matched opponents for Dorridge, and should be a close fight. If Stiles loses, it will be a huge setback, but a win for Dorridge would get him a top ten ranking.
James Foster vs Rick Stanley
This fight was added seemingly last minute and is a huge shock, considering the participants involved. There were rumors that Stanley was close to retirement, voluntary or otherwise, and that we would not see him in a GAMMA cage again, but the story now is that Stanley asked for this rematch specifically, as a last ditch effort to salvage his career. In their first encounter, Foster won the fight by decision in an excellent fight, but Stanley needs to see a different outcome. His takedown skills and striking are naturally very good, but it remains to be seen if he has simply reached the point where he can no longer perform at his best. Foster is coming off a knock out loss to Rav Kapur, and would love to run Stanley over as a sign that he hasn't lost his momentum. As popular as Foster is, more than a few fans are going to be pulling for Stanley, as this is his last stand.
Julio Reguiero vs Doug Hansen
Coming off his shocking loss to Eli Harris, Reguiero is looking to make an example of Hansen, although Hansen, like Harris, is not one anyone should take lightly. Since coming to GAMMA, Hansen has won three of his four fights, and has a 20-6 record. Not only is he dangerous with his fists, but he is also nearly impossible to take off his feet or submit, and his submission and takedown skills are incredible. Reguiero could be a little gunshy after suffering his first career knock out loss, so he may try to take this fight to the ground, where he will run into a lot of trouble. As much as Reguiero wouldn't admit it, he may be in a great deal of trouble avoiding his second straight loss.
Faas Smit vs Nick Detroit
Smit has won his last two fights, and just fought last month, and is trying to rack up another win against the struggling Detroit. Detroit has lost his last three, and is in danger of being forgotten in the division, but he could be in a good position to end Smit's momentum. Smit has to be feeling the effects of fighting recently, and Detroit has had an extra month to recover from his last fight. Detroit is a kick boxer with vicious knees and submission defense skills, while Smit is a wrestler with dangerous hands. These two will likely remain standing, as Smit has had a great deal of success on his feet, but Detroit's conditioning could end up playing a major factor against the likely exhausted Smit.
This card is clearly built around the main event, but it does have a few solid fights as well. I'll be back shortly with Blurcat's predictions.

GAMMA 48 has just ended, and here are the results:
Tim Boyer vs Rav Kapur Tim Boyer wins via TKO 3:44 2nd Round
Bixente Fontaine vs Eli Harris Eli Harris wins via KO 1:30 1st Round
Lloyd McAllister vs Maarten De Vries Maarten De Vries wins via decision
Elgar vs Garry McSweegan Elgar wins via decision
Jay Dorridge vs Charles Stiles Jay Dorridge wins via TKO 2:06 2nd Round
James Foster vs Rick Stanley James Foster wins via decision
Julio Reguiero vs Doug Hansen Julio Reguiero wins via KO 1:10 3rd Round
Faas Smit vs Nick Detroit Nick Detroit wins via TKO 1:28 1st Round
Here are the highlights:
Reguiero looked good coming off his loss to Harris, and overwhelmed Hansen. Reguiero isn't going to be dropping down the rankings with performances like this.
Elgar just seems to have McSweegan's number. This is the second time he has beaten him, and really overwhelmed McSweegan for three rounds. Now Elgar just needs to find that kind of success with the rest of the division, and he'll be champion in no time.
Harris destroyed Fontaine, and after the fight said that he will fight anyone Scott Avatar gives him, whether or not it is the current champion Luis Basora.
The main event was incredible, and the crowd blew the roof off the arena when Boyer won. Boyer said that when he was ready to fight again, it would be against Lefter Oktay, because Oktay is the only fighter to have an unavenged win over Boyer. From the way Boyer has recovered from fights, don't expect to see this until 2001.
Avatar thanked the fans and said that an announcement about GAMMA 49 would be coming soon, so stay tuned.

The card for GAMMA 49 has finally been announced, but before I get to that, there is some fairly major international MMA news. At the most recent Alpha-1 show, Hassan Fezzik was defeated for the first time in his career by Aleksander Ivanov for the Heavyweight title. Ivanov won the fight by decision, and has finally ended the 35 fight winning streak that Fezzik had amassed over his career. As a result, Tim Boyer has surpassed Fezzik as the top ranked Heavyweight in the world. No word from Scott Avatar yet, but I would suspect some kind of comment from him.

Here is the full card (finally) for GAMMA 49: Broken Silence:
GAMMA 49: Broken Silence
Official Theme Song: "Stockholm Syndrome" by Muse
Mike Watson vs John Rivero
This is arguably the most anticipated Light Heavyweight fight of the year, and for good reason. Watson has been nearly unstoppable throughout his career, with the exception of three straight losses in 1998. Since then, he has regained the Light Heavyweight title and avenged two of his losses, and Rivero is the lost person he needs to clear his record. Rivero has also only lost three fights and is a former champion, and recently defeated Zvonimir Asanovic to earn this title shot. In their first fight, Rivero used his world class Sambo skills to submit Watson, and will obviously be looking for the same result. Watson will need to keep his distance and strike to avoid being taken to the ground.
Shane Gilchrist vs Fatuma Roy
This will be a fight between two Heavyweights desperate to prove themselves. Roy has dominated nearly every opponent put in front of him, but has only fought 10 times in the last four years, often seemingly forgotten in the stacked division. Gilchrist has struggled since losing the Heavyweight title and has been on a mission to return to the top of the division. These two have never faced each other before, and they match up well, as both are dangerous strikers who struggle on the ground. This should guarantee a knock out finish regardless of who comes out on top.
Marcus Speed vs Luke Hilton
Hilton's career hit a major snag after losing to Giovani Silva for the second time. As a result, Hilton will not be able to get another title shot for as long as Silva holds the title. He will have to focus on racking up wins, while waiting for someone else to defeat Silva. His first opponent will be Speed, who had a terrible 1999 but has begun to get his career back on track. One thing Speed is missing is a win over a top star, so a win over Hilton would be huge. Speed could become a top contender overnight with a win here, so he will be more focused than ever. Hilton is very difficult to take off his feet and has tremendous K.O. power, which will be difficult for the suspect chin of Speed, but his well-ranged kicks may be able to keep Hilton at bay.
Gabriel Gallego vs Will Kane
Gallego has suffered a few setbacks since coming to GAMMA, but has remained a top contender in the Welterweight division, with wins over Eli Harris and Luis Basora, to name but a few, and Gallego has gone on record as saying if he were given another shot at Basora, he would become the Welterweight champion. In order to get that opportunity, he will need to get a few more big wins, and this fight is a great example. Kane won a surprising victory over Truck Gleeson at GAMMA 46, and is looking to gain some momentum with a win over Gallego. Kane is nearly impossible to take off his feet, and has knocked several opponents out throughout his career. Where he may find success, however, is his ability to submit opponents. One of Gallego's biggest weaknesses is his submission defense, so he will have to keep Kane away with his kicks to avoid being taken down and submitted.
JJ Reid vs Tony McCall
This will be McCall's first fight since dropping down to the Middleweight division. His record as a Light Heavyweight was abysmal, so it will be interesting to see if things improve at a lighter weight class. Reid's last fight was against Buddy Garner in Garner's first match in the Middleweight division, and Reid was beaten by submission. McCall and Garner are very different fighters, but Reid will need a win to avoid being considered a transition into the Middleweight division. McCall is known as a slow, lumbering striker, so Reid will likely try to keep his distance, shooting in to get a few strikes in before escaping to safety.
Marvin Stevens vs Eddie Whelan
Stevens' career has been largely underwhelming, with the highlight being a pair of wins over Frank Sheedy and a win over Bob Dozier. Stevens has said recently that he intends to turn his career around and show the world what he is (apparently) capable of, and has asked for this rematch as a starting point. Whelan has been impressive since arriving in GAMMA, losing only to James Foster, Shane Gilchrist and a shocking loss to Bob Dozier. Whelan is more than happy to take on Stevens, but is eager to be considered a top contender in the Heavyweight division, so he will look to end this fight decisively. Whelan will likely be unable to take Stevens off his feet, but has knock out power and has ended several fights standing up, so Stevens will need to stay back and shoot in only when he's sure of a takedown.
Anthony LeToussier vs Leon Banks
This is another huge Light Heavyweight fight, and the winner will probably face whoever the champion is after tonight. LeToussier has been phenomenal over the past four years, but has always fallen short of a title opportunity. Losses to fighters like Drew Jenks have frequently halted LeToussier's momentum, preventing him from fighting for the belt, despite beating fighters like Banks and former champion Ricky Heath. Banks has struggled since losing the Light Heavyweight title, but recently broke his losing streak with a decisive win over Nick Detroit. Banks lost his first fight in GAMMA to LeToussier, so avenging the loss would be a huge step towards regaining his former success. Banks is incredibly deadly as a wrestler and striker, but LeToussier's take down defense should cancel out any attempts from Banks, and he can easily match his opponent's striking.
Sean Morrison vs Kenny Magilton III
Magilton is an enigma in the Lightweight division, constantly being counted out, only to win when the odds are stacked against him. His most notable victories came over Charles Stiles and Jim Carpenter, but a win here would overshadow those fights completely. Morrison has rarely shown as much as a definitive weakness throughout his career in GAMMA. In the past four years, he has only lost to Mario de Souza and Luke Hilton, and has dominated everyone else in the division. Morrison beat Magilton via TKO last year, but Magilton has been successful since then, and has reclaimed a spot on the top ten rankings. This fight will almost certainly end up on the ground, where both fighters are at their most dangerous, but Magilton will have to try to control Morrison more than their last fight, to avoid being ground and pounded.
Jack Humphreys vs Bruno Epps
In December of last year, Humphreys finally ended his losing streak with a knock out win over Gabriel Gallego. He looked like a brand new fighter, and followed that fight up with a win over Alan Kendall, before being beaten by Ichisake Miyagi. Humphreys hasn't fought since that fight in May of this year, leaving many to believe that his focus had been affected again. We will see which Humphreys shows up to GAMMA 49 to face Epps. Epps recently surprised fans with a decision victory over Matthew Dean, ending his three fight losing streak. Epps will be looking to capitalize on the potentially damaged Humphreys and extend his momentum to two straight wins. Epps is largely useless standing up, and will look to control Humphreys on the ground like he did with Dean. Humphreys is an accomplished striker, and is an accomplished submission fighter, so Epps will have his work cut out for him either way.
Inejiro Chiba vs Zvonimir Asanovic
This will be Chiba's first Light Heavyweight fight in over three years, and he's being given a huge fight for his return. Asanovic has been one of the best Light Heavyweights in GAMMA, and was within a fight of getting a title shot, until he was defeated by John Rivero. Asanovic will be using this fight against Chiba to show that he isn't going anywhere, and that any potential newcomers will have their work cut out for them. Asanovic is a very dangerous striker, using both his hands and feet, and can submit opponents as well. Chiba relies on his stand up to win fights, so if he can keep the fight standing, he may be able to exchange successfully with Asanovic and ultimately claim a spot on the Light Heavyweight rankings.
The Blurcat predictions will be up shortly.

Scott Avatar announced that the two finalists of The Contender 2 will face each other on an episode of GAMMA Unleashed in less than two weeks. Adam White and Danny Akabaro advanced to the finals on the final episode, and will meet on a card that will also feature a huge Middleweight fight between Andrew Rush and Maarten De Vries. Here is the full card for the next episode of GAMMA Unleashed:
Andrew Rush vs Maarten De Vries
With the long-overdue Middleweight title fight happening at GAMMA 50, these two fighters have an opportunity to become the new #1 contender. De Vries has consistently been one of the best Middleweights in GAMMA, but he's been defeated by Patrick Thomas in their last two fights, leaving many to wonder how many more opportunities he'll get. Rush has won five of his first six fights in GAMMA, and has been been impressive in every fight, knocking his last two opponents out. Both of these men are potential champions, but only one will get the opportunity to face the Middleweight champion. Rush is able to knock fighters out on his feet or on the ground, but he'll have a lot of trouble getting De Vries off his feet. De Vries' chin is a bit suspect, however, so De Vries will want to push the action and look for a knock out of his own before he gets into trouble.
Thomas Smith vs Frank Sheedy
Fans and fighters alike are incensed over the announcement of this fight, and Scott Avatar will likely need to explain his decision. Smith is on a two fight winning streak, and has wins over Steve Mason, Tank Manu'a, Vincent Chapin and Bob Dozier in the past year. Instead of finally getting a shot against a top contender, Smith will have to face a man he has already defeated. Sheedy managed to get a spot on the top ten rankings after beating Inejiro Chiba, but has since lost to James Foster in a fight that Sheedy looked terrible in. If Smith can repeat history, he will finally return to the top ten in GAMMA and will have earned some respect finally. Smith's takedown ability and defense has helped win many of his fights, but it was a TKO victory that he had over Sheedy the first time, so he may try to finish the fight in the same way.
The Contender 2 Finals
Adam White vs Danny Akabaro
Unlike the first season of The Contender, these two finalists match up incredibly well, and this was the fight many people wanted to see in the finals. Akabaro was a fan favorite on the show, coming to The Contender straight from Nigeria as a former member of the Nigerian Police Force, and dominated opponents with an unorthadox combination of striking and grappling. It was when he was on the defensive that his weaknesses were exposed, as he seemed to have no answer for an opponent in ground control. White's ground game was top notch throughout The Contender, and took opponents down with no effort. White's striking wasn't really tested, but it would be a much better strategy to try to control Akabaro on the ground, rather than try to train with the former cop.
Ricardo Evans vs Callum Henson
In a kind of anniversary, the first winner of The Contender will face Henson. Evans looked good against Edward Collins in the finals of the first season of The Contender, but was badly beaten by Liam O'Donnell. Evans is looking to avoid losing his second straight, as it is unknown what kind of a contract he is under, and how long a losing record would keep him in GAMMA. Henson's career has been in the tank for the last two years, and was knocked out by Jim Carpenter in his last fight. Henson has the skills to beat Evans, with his knock out power and incredible balance, but his current lack of momentum will leave him vulnerable to an attack from the rookie.
I'll be back with the Blurcat predictions shortly.

The show just ended, and here are the results:
Andrew Rush vs Maarten De Vries Andrew Rush wins via TKO 2:48 2nd Round
Thomas Smith vs Frank Sheedy Frank Sheedy wins via TKO 3:36 3rd Round
Adam White vs Danny Akabaro Danny Akabaro wins via decision
Callum Henson vs Ricardo Evans Callum Henson wins via decision
Here are some of the highlights:
The Sheedy win was a complete upset and continues the ongoing ridiculous saga of getting wins over opponents that should be burying Sheedy. No idea what happens to either of these fighters from here.
Evans did not look good in his fight, and it's safe to say that his job is in jeopardy, which is not good for the future of The Contender.
The Contender 2, however, concluded with an incredibly close fight that saw the former Nigerian police officer get the decision win. It's likely that White will also be given a contract as a result of the fight.
After Rush's huge KO win, he will definately get a title shot against the winner of the upcoming Thomas/Amaro fight. No other fights were announced for GAMMA 50, but it won't be long before we hear something...

COMING

The full card for GAMMA 50: Thomas vs Amaro is set, but before I get to that, I have to comment on two news items.
-After over a month of bizarre clues, it has finally been announced that the mysterious fighter known as Sukarno has signed with GAMMA. Sukarno has made a name for himself through an incredible amount of hype, claiming to have a pro MMA record of 173-0, and was signed by Alpha-1 two years ago. He was never given a fight, however, and dropped down to Welterweight in the process. A fight has been scheduled for Sukarno, and the world will be watching to see if he can live up to the hype.
-Apparently a preliminary meeting was held to discuss Giovani Silva's next title defense, and it turned into an all out war of words. Silva was adamantly against a third fight with Morrison, perhaps because the first two fights ended with Morrison knocking Silva out, although the first two fights were four years ago and was between two very different fighters. Morrison was outraged by this and was eventually quoted as saying, "if Silva wants to be a b*tch and duck me, that's fine. He knows what'll happen if we meet again." Morrison's comments turned to Scott Avatar, saying "[Avatar] is an idiot for listening to Silva. He has the two best Lightweights in a title fight and he lets Silva back out like a little girl." I'm not Morrison's biggest fan, but I have to agree with him here. No one else deserves a title shot as much as Morrison, and I hope whoever gets the next shot beats Silva so he can give Morrison the shot he deserves.
GAMMA 50: Thomas vs Amaro
Official Theme Song: "Raining Blood" by Slayer
Patrick Thomas vs Fernando Amaro
This fight is a very long time coming, and has probably lost some of its momentum by now. The fight was scheduled to take place in May, but an injury sidelined Amaro, and Maarten De Vries was tapped as his replacement. Needless to say, Thomas retained his title and earned his seventh straight win, and since then, Thomas and Amaro have patiently waited for their chance to get in the cage again. Amaro earned this title shot with a surprising win over Andrew Rush, using his dangerous striking to control his opponent, while dictating the fight with his takedown and submission defense. Thomas' skills are nearly identical, as many of his fights have ended in knock out and his grappling skills are world-class. Thomas may have the edge when grappling on the ground, but if Amaro gets ground control, Thomas will be in big trouble.
Sukarno vs Eli Harris
This is an unbelievable match up, and could result in Harris being considered one of the top fighters in the world if he can beat his enigmatic opponent. As far as I know, no one in the civilized world has ever seen Sukarno fight, so any information we have on him is through his handlers, who have hyped him up as the second coming. His striking and defense against submissions and take downs are said to be unmatched, but as far as I'm concerned, it's all just heresay until we see him fight. After Harris' win over Bixente Fontaine, he said he would fight anyone that GAMMA offered him, and apparently jumped at the chance to fight Sukarno. Harris' striking and wrestling has made him not only one of the most popular fighters in GAMMA, but also incredibly successful in the Welterweight division. Thanks to his insane record and legendary reputation, Sukarno is currently the #1 fighter in the world, pound for pound. If Harris can shock the world again, that title could become his.
Kunimichi Kikuchi vs Steve Mason
This Heavyweight fight is between two struggling, yet very talented fighters. Kikuchi joined GAMMA this past summer, and was given a fight with Raul Hughes. In one of the most shocking results in GAMMA history, Kikuchi was knocked out in 15 seconds, and has been recovering since then. His first fight since then will be against Mason, who has lost four of his last five fights. Mason was at one point considered one of the most dangerous fighters in the Heavyweight division, but since returning from injury he has been a complete disappointment. If Mason loses to Kikuchi, it will be the first time in his career that he loses three straight fights, which could completely derail him. Mason's striking is incredibly dangerous, and Kikuchi has already been knocked out in GAMMA, but Kikuchi's striking is nothing to sneeze at, and he's much better on the ground than Mason.
Mario de Souza vs Luke Hilton
De Souza has been sidelined with an injury since his win over Kenny Magilton in July, and has been given a huge return fight. De Souza made a name for himself by defeating Sean Morrison twice, as well as winning the Lightweight title twice, and has always been among the top five ranked Lightweights in GAMMA. With this recent news regarding the Lightweight title, de Souza has an opportunity to slide into a title position with a win over Hilton. These two have fought before, where Hilton won via TKO, so de Souza will have plenty to prove. De Souza is better against fighters who allow him to dominate them with his superior ground game, which explains why de Souza had so much trouble with Hilton the first time, as Hilton is exceptionally difficult to get off his feet, and even harder to submit. In addition, Hilton has heavy hands and is deadly in the clinch, making him a serious threat for de Souza.
Faas Smit vs Jethro Munter
Before he was knocked out in the first round against Nick Detroit, Smit was beginning to look like a serious threat in the Light Heavyweight division, knocking out Ashley Ballard and Elgar in the past year. The loss to Detroit could have just been a minor slip up, in which case Smit could get back on track in his upcoming fight with Munter. Munter is coming off of back-to-back losses, and seems to have lost all the momentum he gained from defeating Buddy Garner. Munter has won the majority of his fights with knock outs, and Smit may be a little wary of getting knocked out again, so Munter could have the psychological advantage here. Smit's striking is also dangerous, but if Munter is able to take Smit to the ground, the fight may be over.
Raul Hughes vs Rav Kapur
Another huge Heavyweight fight here, between two world-class strikers. Kapur lived up to the hype upon debuting in GAMMA, knocking James Foster out in spectacular fashion. He would go on to lose to Tim Boyer, ending his undefeated streak, and now he'll have to recover from his first loss while facing a white-hot Hughes. Hughes was given the first fight against Kunimichi Kikuchi in match where Hughes was considered the underdog. Hughes responded to this by knocking Kikuchi out in 15 seconds, reestablishing himself as one of the best Heavyweights in GAMMA. It will be interesting to see how Kapur is going to recover from his first loss, both physical and psychologically, and Hughes is one of the toughest possible opponents for a weakened Kapur. Kapur's grappling is superior to Hughes', and that may be the deciding factor in this fight, otherwise it will be a case of who strikes first.
Buddy Garner vs Neil Napier
Garner looked good in his return to the Middleweight division, before losing to the almost unstoppable Andrew Rush. Garner hasn't fought since then, and has been given a difficult fight against Napier. Napier recently ended an uncharacteristic two fight losing streak with a dominating win over Stuart Strange, and looks to build off of that against Garner. Napier was, at one point, within a single win of getting a title shot, so he needs to stay near the top of the division with wins over fighters like Garner if he wants to get another shot like that again. Napier is an excellent wrestler in addition to being a solid striker, but his grappling skills are still dwarfed by Garner's ability to control and submit opponents. Napier may need to try his luck on his feet in this one, as he'll likely get outclassed on the mat.
Liam O'Donnell vs Jim Carpenter
Carpenter had a terrible start upon arriving in GAMMA, but recently he's looked better with each fight, even getting an early KO win over Callum Henson in his last fight. His opponent has made a career out of getting upset wins, beating Mario de Souza, Simon Vine and Chojiro Goto in the last 2 years. Most recently, O'Donnell defeated Ricardo Evans, essentially ending the young career of the reality show winner with a disappointing loss. A win over Carpenter would destroy the momentum built by Carpenter and would add to the list of upsets in O'Donnell's list, but O'Donnell wouldn't gain much aside from bragging rights until he gets a winning record. O'Donnell's striking and take down skills are certainly worth taking note of, but Carpenter at his best should be able to easily control O'Donnell on the ground, and can take as hard a punch as O'Donnell can throw.
Simon Vine vs Truck Gleeson
Since losing to Will Kane, Gleeson has taken almost six months off to regroup and prepare for his next fight. The fight that he has been given is an interesting one, as it will be Vine's first fight since moving up to the Welterweight division. Vine's move is likely a result of his lack of progress in the Lightweight division, rather than the idea that he'll have it easier as a Welterweight, considering how stacked the division is, and Gleeson will be an excellent test of how Vine will fare. Gleeson is a knock out artist, and is particularly dangerous in the clinch, which doesn't bode well for Vine, who is particularly weak in the clinch. Vine was always able to bully his opponents with his grappling, but now that he'll be on the lighter side of the division, he may not have that kind of success. If he can control Gleeson on the ground, it will be a great indication that Vine belongs in the Welterweight division.
Michael Bannon vs Nick Detroit
This will be Bannon's second fight in GAMMA after losing to Elgar in his debut, and Detroit just ended a lengthy losing streak with a win over Faas Smit. Both of these fighters are in the middle of the Light Heavyweight pack, and need to start getting some big wins, or in Bannon's case, any wins, in order to be considered a contender. Bannon is a great ground and pound fighter, although GAMMA fans have yet to see it, while Detroit prefers to stay standing, and is only successful when he has control on the ground. Difficult to predict this one, but Detroit's suspect chin will likely play a factor in the end result.
I'll be back shortly with the Blurcat predictions.

GAMMA 50 is over, and here are the results:
Patrick Thomas vs Fernando Amaro Fernando Amaro wins via decision
Sukarno vs Eli Harris Eli Harris wins via TKO 3:51 3rd Round
Steve Mason vs Kunimichi Kikuchi Kunimichi Kikuchi wins via KO 2:44 1st Round
Luke Hilton vs Mario de Souza Luke Hilton wins via KO 2:55 3rd Round
Jethro Munter vs Faas Smit Faas Smit wins via decision
Rav Kapur vs Raul Hughes Rav Kapur wins via TKO :23 3rd Round
Neil Napier vs Buddy Garner Neil Napier wins via TKO 3:20 2nd Round
Jim Carpenter vs Liam O'Donnell Liam O'Donnell wins via TKO 3:46 2nd Round
Simon Vine vs Truck Gleeson Simon Vine wins via TKO 2:19 1st Round
Michael Bannon vs Nick Detroit Michael Bannon wins via TKO 2:32 1st Round
Here are some of the highlights:
Simon Vine looked good in his Welterweight debut, and Truck Gleeson continues to struggle. Vine probably needs one more win before he's a top ten ranked Welterweight, which is impressive considering the talent level compared to his former division.
O'Donnell gets yet another upset victory, ending Carpenter's recent string of good luck. With the Lightweight title picture a complete mess, a couple more big wins like this could get O'Donnell a title shot.
Kapur came back from his first loss with a huge win over Hughes. It is likely that Kapur will look for a fight with Fatuma Roy next, considering how highly ranked he is. When Tim Boyer eventually retires, Kapur is a plausible replacement at the top of the division, and a win over a fighter like Roy would get him there.
Mason suffered another disappointing loss at the hands of Kikuchi, and had nothing to say following the fight. Mason is clearly damaged goods right now, and may need to take some more time off to get his head clear, before taking any more big fights.
In one of the biggest fights of the night, Harris defeated Sukarno in spectacular fashion. Sukarno may not have lived up to the fight, but certainly looked good, winning the first two rounds, but failed to finish the fight. Harris came out in the third like a different fighter, overwhelming Sukarno with punches until he caught him with a bomb. Harris' stock just went up on a worldwide scale, and although Sukarno's place as the #1 ranked fighter remains unchanged, Harris is in the top five and has got to be in line for a title shot.
Amaro finally ended the title reign of Thomas, with a decision win. Amaro looked amazing, winning four of the five rounds, and showed no real weaknesses throughout the fight. Thomas raised Amaro's hand after the decision and said that he would take some time to decide where he would go from here, suggesting that a weight class change may be in the future for Thomas. It seems that Andrew Rush will be Amaro's first title defense, but a date will not be set for some time.
It was announced at the show that Eli Harris had been named Fighter of the Year, to the delight of fans. Harris had a huge year, with a 4-1 record and with wins over Julio Reguiero and Sukarno. Another title shot is just a matter of time.
GAMMA 51: Sure Shot is going to be headlined by Mike Watson vs Leon Banks II for the Light Heavyweight title. James Foster is also scheduled to fight, but an opponent hasn't been named. I'll keep you posted when I hear anything else.

Here is the card for GAMMA 51:
GAMMA 51: Sure Shot
Official Theme Song: "Drunks, Liars, Sinners and Saints" by Alexisonfire
Mike Watson vs Leon Banks
After defeating John Rivero and avenging his final loss, Watson has established himself as one of the greatest Light Heavyweights of all time. His quest for greatness arguably began at GAMMA 37, the first ppv covered by this reporter, where he defeated Banks for the Light Heavyweight title. Now, over a year later, Banks finally gets his chance at redemption. In their first fight, Watson used his fantastic striking to get the win, but Banks' wrestling has looked great in his last few fights, and is more than capable of getting the win on the ground, so this will be a very close fight.
James Foster vs Tank Manu'a
Foster is coming into this fight with back to back wins, and has won four of his last five fights. As solid as he has been lately, he has struggled with untested fighters throughout his career, losing to Rav Kapur and Steve Mason at the beginning of his career. Foster will be facing a fighter who looked terrible in his debut fight, but had success in Alpha-1 before coming to GAMMA. Manu'a has the size and strength to lie on top of opponents and destroy them with his heavy hands, but also has the mobility and quickness of his namesake on his feet, so Foster should be able to keep his distance, shooting in to get some offense in before diving away from any takedown attempts.
Will Kane vs Jack Humphreys
Scott Avatar recently admitted in an interview that Kane's GAMMA debut was a series of disappointments, ranging from his weight change, cancelling the planned Kane/Andrew Rush fight, to his lackluster debut loss to Randy Carsley. Kane changed all that by soundly defeating Truck Gleeson in a fight Kane was put in almost as an afterthought. Since then, Kane has knocked out Gabriel Gallego and has looked like a brand new fighter. Humphreys knows all about disappointment, suffering through a ten fight losing streak at one point. More recently, Humphreys has won three of his last four fights, and needs a win over a fighter like Kane to begin to regain the top spot he once had in the division. Humphreys is a deadly striker, although lately he has reminded everyone how dangerous he is as a submission fighter. Kane is most dangerous in the clinch, but is dangerous on the ground as well. Humphreys will have his work cut out for him, but a win would get him closer to a title shot than he's been in years.
JJ Reid vs Stuart Strange
This is a fight between two Middleweights that were at one point among the best in the division, but have recently been struggling to remain in the spotlight. Reid was once considered one of the best Middleweights in GAMMA, beating fighters like Patrick Thomas and Matthew Dean, but lately, Reid has been unable to beat any top contenders, including Buddy Garner, Neil Napier and Andrew Rush. Strange, despite being one of the most hated fighters in GAMMA, was a force through much of 1998 and 1999, but has lost his last two fights, including a devastating knock out loss to Rush. With several new Middleweights joining GAMMA, including The Contender 2's Danny Akabaro, both of these fighters need a win to avoid being lost in the crowd. These two have fought twice before, one of the fights ending when Strange used his heavy hands to knock Reid out, while the other was a decision win for Reid, who used his ground game to control Strange for 15 minutes. The rubber match is really anyone's fight, and the winner will remain in the top ten, whereas the loser may not.
Jay Dorridge vs Luke Hilton
Since losing to Giovani Silva for the second time, Hilton is no longer able to fight for the Lightweight title until someone else beats Silva. As a result, Hilton has taken his frustration out on any fighter who is put in the cage with him, including Marcus Speed and Mario de Souza. His next opponent is Dorridge, who, based on his first fight in GAMMA, doesn't have much of a chance. In his debut fight, Dorridge fought Speed and looked very average, not really getting any offense in throughout the fight. He followed that fight with a knock out win over Charles Stiles, looking particularly dangerous. He is actually a world class Judo specialist, and uses his variety of throws to control and has enough punching power to end fights. Hilton can knock fighters out from every scenario and won his last fight with a vicious KO. If Dorridge can get Hilton off his feet and gain ground control, he'll have more of a chance than anyone is currently giving him.
Frank Sheedy vs Eddie Whelan
Sheedy has made a career out of getting upset wins, and recently he's been more proficient at throwing a wrench in other fighters' careers, including Thomas Smith, Inejiro Chiba, Dave Lennon and Bob Dozier. As a result, Sheedy now has a place on the top ten rankings. Whelan has been tremendous since coming to GAMMA, only missing a win over a top contender before he will be considered for a title shot. Unfortunately, his 18-5 record and two fight winning streak makes him a candidate for a Sheedy upset. Whelan is lethal in the clinch, and throws some of the heaviest knees in MMA, whereas Sheedy prefers to wrestle opponents to the ground before throwing big fists and elbows on his downed opponent. If Sheedy wins, it will halt any progress Whelan has made towards become a contender for the title, while Sheedy will gain little except another name on his list of upsets.
Linfield Ballard vs Danny Akabaro
This will be Akabaro's first fight since defeating Adam White to become the winner of The Contender 2, and should be an excellent test of whether Akabaro can compete at a world-class level. He looked excellent against White, using his boxing skills to control his opponent and nearly knocked him out on several occasions. Ballard is a more well-rounded fighter than White, so Akabaro may need to rely on a ground game which is untested and potentially quite poor to counter Ballard's experience. If Akabaro wins, he will be the first winner of The Contender to beat a regular member of GAMMA's roster, but a loss would be devastating and potentially career-ending for Ballard.
Anthony LeToussier vs Garry McSweegan
Both of these Light Heavyweights are arguably deserving of a title shot, and it may only take a win here before they get what they deserve. McSweegan has been impressive since his debut, with only a pair of unexplainable losses to Elgar against him. In spite of having only five fights in GAMMA, he is the eigth ranked Light Heavyweight in GAMMA, and it is only a matter of getting a few more wins before he is among the elite Light Heavyweights. LeToussier has always come within a fight of getting a title shot before suffering a loss. In the past two years, losses to Drew Jenks and Leon Banks have cost him a title shot, but if Mike Watson wins tonight, LeToussier would be the next to get a shot at the belt, provided he wins tonight. LeToussier is difficult to take down, and is an accomplished striker with heavy hands and dangerous knees, but McSweegan has an incredibly strong chin, and if he is able to take LeToussier down, he can do a great deal of damage.
Randy Carsley vs Ricardo Fernandes
Two of the best Welterweights in GAMMA face off in a huge fight that was added last minute. Carsley hasn't fought since losing to Luis Basora in Carsley's first title fight which ended his four fight winning streak. Fernandes was the one who Basora beat for the Welterweight title, and Fernandes has only fought once since, defeating Ichisake Miyagi. Both of these fighters are among the most dominant fighters in the division, and neither have fought since August of last year, so both should be eager for a fight. Fernandes is both a dangerous striker and a submission specialist, making him a complete package, while Carsley relies on striking and wrestling, adding submission defense to his arsenal. Either fighter could win this, and while it may not get them a rematch against Basora, they wouldn't be far behind the next person.
Guilherme Gomez vs Diego Arteta
Two of the standouts from The Contender 2 who didn't make it to the finals, Arteta and Gomez are being given a second chance. The charismatic Arteta was a fan favorite for his personality and his rock hard chin, taking several bombs during several of his fights, and shaking them off. Gomez may be more technically sound than Arteta, but his glass jaw lead to his elimination from the show. The contract situation surrounding these two is unknown, but whoever wins may have a career ahead of them in GAMMA.
I'll be right back with the Blurcat predictions.

The results are in for GAMMA 51: Sure Shot:
Leon Banks vs Mike Watson Leon Banks wins via decision
James Foster vs Tank Manu'a James Foster wins via decision
Jack Humphreys vs Will Kane Will Kane wins via KO :49 3rd Round
JJ Reid vs Stuart Strange Stuart Strange wins via TKO 2:20 3rd Round
Luke Hilton vs Jay Dorridge Luke Hilton wins via decision

Danny Akabaro vs Linfield Ballard Danny Akabaro wins via TKO 4:55 3rd Round
Anthony LeToussier vs Garry McSweegan Anthony LeToussier wins via decision
Ricardo Fernandes vs Randy Carsley Ricardo Fernandes wins via decision
Diego Arteta vs Guilherme Gomez Diego Arteta wins via TKO 4:58 1st Round
Here are some of the highlights:
Arteta looked good, gaining ground control and throwing vicious elbows to get the win. Gomez will likely be released, but we'll see.
Akabaro proved that he deserves to be in GAMMA, and may get a fight with Stuart Strange next. Ballard may be done following the loss.
Although Kane won the fight, it is important to note that Humphreys had won the first two rounds and looked good before Kane threw a head kick out of nowhere to get the win.
Banks looked as good as he ever has in his fight, and controlled Watson throughout the fight. Few people gave this fight to Banks, but after seeing him in action tonight, its crazy to think people bet against him. This was a worst case scenario for Anthony LeToussier, who won his fight tonight, but recently lost to Banks. It is unknown who Banks will face next, but in the meantime, he can enjoy his second title reign, knowing he beat one of the best Light Heavyweights ever.
It was made official tonight: GAMMA 52 will feature Tim Boyer defending his Heavyweight belt against Lefter Oktay. Boyer has said he needs to beat Oktay to feel like he is truly deserving of his accolades. Boyer has beaten the best that GAMMA has to offer, defying the odds on repeated occasions, but Oktay is an often overlooked opponent who would love to shatter Boyer's momentum and take his title. Stay tuned for the rest of the card.

Here is the full card for GAMMA 52:
GAMMA 52: Boyer vs Oktay II
Official Theme Song: "Romantic Rights" by Death From Above 1979
Tim Boyer vs Lefter Oktay
Over the past four years, Boyer has defeated every opponent put in front of him, including Rav Kapur, James Foster, Fatuma Roy and Steve Mason, and has proven himself to be the best Heavyweight in GAMMA history. For Boyer, there is a more important, moral victory he needs before he can consider himself the best. Nearly five years ago, Oktay knocked Boyer out in the second round, and is the last loss that Boyer needs to avenge. Oktay has been talking about that win a lot lately, in an effort to get a title shot, and he finally got Boyer's attention when he defeated Steve Mason and won his fourth straight fight. Oktay is one of the best Sambo fighters in GAMMA, and excels at taking his opponents to the ground and knocking them out, which is how he defeated Boyer. Boyer's chin may not be the strongest, but he has made up for it with his deadly striking and incredibly takedown defense. Boyer was a different fighter when he lost to Oktay, and has proven that he can defeat every kind of fighter, but Oktay is also on a roll, and with the Heavyweight title within reach, he may be so motivated that he repeats history.
Zvonimir Asanovic vs Ricky Heath
When Leon Banks defeated Mike Watson for the Light Heavyweight title, he completely disrupted the title picture. Anthony LeToussier and John Rivero, the two top contenders, have recently either lost to Banks or lost a title fight, so a new #1 contender will have to be decided, and this fight may do it. Asanovic and Heath are both former champions who struggled after losing the belt, but have recently gotten back on track. Heath won his last fight against Banks, and most recently submitted Drew Jenks to earn this shot. Since losing to Mike Watson in 1999, Asanovic has only lost once, and has defeated fighters like Banks, Inejiro Chiba and recently, Heath. Heath has also beaten Asanovic in the past, making this the rubber match. Asanovic's knock out ability has won him the majority of his fights, while Heath relies on his wrestling background to either submit his opponents or control them on the ground while looking for an opening. Asanovic is definately the favorite here, but Heath is more than capable of getting a big win. Regardless of the outcome, the winner will face Banks at a later date, and will go into the title fight with a win over the current champion.
Sean Morrison vs Liam O'Donnell
O'Donnell has never been considered a top contender throughout his career, despite defeating some of the best Lightweights in GAMMA, including Simon Vine, Mario de Souza and Chojiro Goto. Lately, however, O'Donnell has won back to back fights for the first time in his career and has finally been ranked in GAMMA's top ten. His next fight will be his biggest challenge yet, as he is facing one of the most dominant Lightweights in GAMMA history. Morrison is in a similar situation to that of Luke Hilton, as he is currently out of the running for a title shot, despite his record and current success. When Giovani Silva was told he would likely be fighting Morrison for the title, he turned down the fight for unknown reasons, perhaps because Morrison had beaten Silva twice before. Morrison will have to continue to win, racking up a big enough streak until GAMMA has no choice but to force a match between Silva and Morrison. If O'Donnell can win, however, he will likely get an immediate title shot, considering the magnitude of such a win. O'Donnell has won fights with his variety of dangerous strikes and his takedown ability, but Morrison's takedowns are in a different league, and he is far more dangerous on the ground. O'Donnell has his work cut out for him, but O'Donnell has the confidence and momentum to possibly pull off an upset.
Andrew Rush vs Neil Napier
Rush is easily one of the best Middleweights in the world, and has been nearly unstoppable since arriving in GAMMA. He has beaten fighters like JJ Reid, Maarten De Vries and Buddy Garner, and has lost only once to the man who would go on to become the Middleweight champion, Fernando Amaro. This loss is probably the reason why he has yet to receive a title shot, but a win tonight could get him there. Napier was within a win of getting a title shot of his own last year, but lost to Maarten De Vries by an early knock out. Since that time, he has been working towards another shot at the belt, and this fight would likely get him that shot. Napier is a former champion with many TKO victories, making him an opponent Rush shouldn't take lightly. Rush has own knock out power in the past, using his vicious kicks to win eight recent fights. This should be a slugfest, and will likely result in the crowning of a new #1 contender.
Peter Bracewell vs Bruno Epps
Shortly following the announcement of this fight, Bracewell announced that he would be retiring after this fight. This is a disappointing end to a career that had at one point been very promising, as he has fought very little in the last two years, and has won even less. His eight month absence following his last fight led many to speculate that he was considering retirement, and it seems as though he has been given a fight where he has an opportunity to look good leaving GAMMA. Epps has only won twice in the last four years, but this is partly due to the caliber of fighter he insists on being matched up against. His grappling skills and ground and pound skills may not be the absolute best, but he is talented enough to get wins, and he will be facing an opponent who struggles on his back. To his credit, Bracewell has a strong chin and is a much better striker, so if he can stay on his feet, he'll be able to retire with a win.
Charles Stiles vs Darin Blood
Both Stiles and Blood have suffered strings of bad luck lately, during a time where a title shot was ripe for the taking. Blood recently lost to Luke Hilton and dropped a split decision to Chojiro Goto, while Stiles has been beaten by Sean Morrison and Jay Dorridge. In an effort to shift the momentum of one of these fighters, Scott Avatar has booked them against each other. Stiles is one of the best Lightweights in GAMMA when it comes to fighting on the ground, but is also very dangerous with his kicks. Blood is excellent at defending both submissions and takedowns, and can knock opponents out in a variety of ways. If Blood can prevent being taken down, which he is perfectly capable of doing, then he will likely have the advantage in striking.
Inejiro Chiba vs John Rivero
Chiba continues his quest for a win in what will be his second fight as a Light Heavyweight. He lost his first fight at his new weight to Zvonimir Asanovic, and his second fight will be against an opponent who is just as difficult. Rivero hasn't fought since October of last year, when Mike Watson successfully defended the Light Heavyweight title, and is looking to recover from the loss. There is a conflict in styles here, as Chiba relies entirely on striking, while Rivero is known as a Sambo expert, making him a world class wrestler with incredible takedowns. In addition, Rivero is a dangerous boxer, but Chiba has a very strong chin. Chiba's biggest concern will be staying on his feet, because if Rivero gets control on the ground, the fight will end.
Shane Gilchrist vs Wilson Franklyn
Gilchrist is making his return to the cage following a heartbreaking loss to Fatuma Roy, and has been given a high profile fight, although for a unique reason. Franklyn is well known throughout the MMA and fight communities, despite never having an official MMA fight. He has made a name for himself through underground bare-knuckle fights which became legendary when they were posted on a variety of websites, and it was these videos that eventually led to him getting a contract in GAMMA. From what we have seen of Franklyn, he has loaded hands and can take a lot of punishment without slowing down, and those who have been training with him say he has been working intensively on his knees and ground striking. His tendency to rush opponents worked in the underground fighting world, but it may get him into trouble against an opponent like Gilchrist, who is very capable of knocking opponents out. Critics of Franklyn assume that he will be completely useless on his back, so this may be what Gilchrist will try to do, and then work on getting the ground and pound win.
Lloyd McAllister vs Lenny McFadden
McFadden cant get any respect in GAMMA. That's how it looks when you see his record over the past few years, and it is a shame, because he is incredibly talented and is still the #5 ranked Middleweight in GAMMA. He is rarely booked for fights, and is booked against lackluster opponents. He, of course, doesn't help himself by losing to many of these opponents, but he does deserve more of a chance than he seems to be getting. For example, his next fight is against a fighter who beat him just over a year ago, and McFadden has only had one fight since then. McAllister strung together a three fight win streak following that win, and only recently ended it with a loss to Maarten De Vries. He has had more success recently than any other time in his career, and may still have enough momentum to win here and climb the ranks. McAllister has won six fights with knock outs, including one over McFadden, so he will certainly have the advantage going into this fight, and arguably has more to gain as well.
Julio Reguiero vs Ichisake Miyagi
This huge Welterweight fight was added last minute and will open the stacked ppv. Miyagi has been incredibly successful since returning to GAMMA, winning the Welterweight title, ending the winning streak of Jack Humphreys and losing only twice. Reguiero is one of the best Welterweights in GAMMA, and despite the massive upset loss to Eli Harris, he is still considered a top contender for the title. These two have never fought before, and they match up well. Miyagi is excellent at controlling opponents on the ground and uses his phenomenal wrestling to bully his opponents while looking for his opportunity to strike. His stand up isn't nearly as good as Reguiero's however, who recently knocked out Doug Hansen and is able to use his hands and feet to finish a fight. A top spot in the division is at stake here, as is a future fight with Sukarno, so many will be watching this fight with great interest.

GAMMA 52 has ended, and here are the results:
Tim Boyer vs Lefter Oktay Tim Boyer wins via decision
Zvonimir Asanovic vs Ricky Heath Zvonimir Asanovic wins via decision
Sean Morrison vs Liam O'Donnell Sean Morrison wins via decision
Andrew Rush vs Neil Napier Neil Napier wins via decision
Peter Bracewell vs Bruno Epps Bruno Epps wins via TKO 2:29 1st Round
Charles Stiles vs Darin Blood Charles Stiles wins via decision

Shane Gilchrist vs Wilson Franklyn Shane Gilchrist wins via decision
Lenny McFadden vs Lloyd McAllister Lenny McFadden wins via TKO 4:25 2nd Round
Julio Reguiero vs Ichisake Miyagi Julio Reguiero wins via TKO 2:21 2nd Round
Here are some of the highlights:
Following his win over Miyagi, Reguiero said it wouldn't be long before the Welterweight title would be his again. Sukarno was shown in the crowd and didn't look impressed.
Franklyn looked good in his first MMA fight, but he lost exactly how everyone thought he would; Gilchrist took him to the ground and basically lay on top of him. After the fight, Franklyn apologized for his performance and said next time he would show what he can do.
Upset of the night goes to Chiba's TKO win over Rivero. It was one of those wins where Rivero didn't even know what had happened to him after the fight and began to dispute the fact that he had been knocked out. Chiba was obviously ecstatic, and said he hoped for a title shot in the future.
Bracewell was in bad shape after his loss and had to be helped to his feet. Obviously a disappointing end to his career, and it likely won't result in much for Epps.
The crowd exploded after Boyer was announced as the winner, and Boyer looked very emotional in his post fight interview. Oktay was a gracious loser and raised Boyer's hand after the result was announced. It is unclear as to what's next for Boyer, but he did make it clear that he would be ready to defend his title again in a couple of months.
GAMMA 53 was announced tonight, and it's going to be huge. GAMMA 53: Night of Champions 2 will feature two title fights, as Luis Basora will defend the Welterweight title against Eli Harris, and Giovani Silva will face Chojiro Goto with the Lightweight title on the line. Additionally, a fight between Maarten De Vries and Stuart Strange has been announced. When the rest of the card is announced, I'll post it here.

A couple of weight change announcements tonight, following GAMMA 52. Matthew Dean has decided to drop down to Lightweight, while JJ Reid will be fighting as a Welterweight from now on. Both of these men have struggled to win lately, so we'll have to see if this changes their recent string of bad luck.

GAMMA 53: Night of Champions 2:
Official Theme Song: "Millionaire" by Queens of the Stone Age
Eli Harris vs Luis Basora
This title fight is the result of Harris' incredible recent winning streak, including major upsets over Julio Reguiero and Sukarno. Harris has made a career out of defying the odds, and looks to do it one more time to capture the Welterweight title. Basora and Harris have fought once before, where Basora exploited Harris' weak ground defense and submitted him in the first round. Since that time, Harris has fought and defeated several fighters who are much better on the ground than him, and his takedown defense has improved tremendously. After defeating Harris, Basora went on to defeat Ichisake Miyagi for the belt and defended it against top Welterweights Ricardo Fernandes and Randy Carsley. He is in the midst of an eight fight winning streak and is very confident that this fight will go the same way their first fight does. What Basora needs to keep in mind is the fact that Bixente Fontaine, Julio Reguiero and Sukarno all thought they would have no problem with "The Farm Boy" either.
Maarten De Vries vs Stuart Strange
This fight features one of the greatest Middleweights in GAMMA history, and it may be the last time we see him as a Middleweight. In his combined two title reigns, he has been the champion for three of the last five years, and has beaten some of the world's best. His recent pair of losses to former champion Patrick Thomas and a TKO loss to Andrew Rush have left De Vries reevaluating his future in the Middleweight division, recently saying in an interview that he would consider a change of weight classes if he decided there was nowhere else to go. Strange has struggled lately, losing to Andrew Rush and Neil Napier before beating JJ Reid, sending him to down to the Welterweight division. He has been very quiet lately, as is usually the case when he is struggling to win, but Strange has said that he thinks he will be successful against a damaged De Vries, but many have written this confidence off as arrogance. If Strange can use his dangerous striking to overwhelm and knock out his opponent, he could get a surprise win. De Vries may not have the best chin, but his striking has been very successful in the past, and Strange will likely be unable to take him off his feet, if Strange is getting beaten on his feet.
Chojiro Goto vs Giovani Silva
In the second title fight of the night, Goto will attempt to take the Lightweight title in a fight where few are giving him the edge. Silva hasn't lost a fight in four years, and has won his last ten, including two wins over Luke Hilton. Silva has looked unbeatable lately, and is fighting an opponent who is 2-2 since arriving in GAMMA, and barely won his last fight over Darin Blood, getting a split decision win. Goto is very talented on the ground and is a gifted boxer, but Silva is incredibly dangerous on the ground, with a mix of submissions and ground and pound skills at his disposal. Silva is the definite favorite in this one, but stranger things have happened, and Goto is certainly not one to be taken lightly.
Steve Mason vs Thomas Smith
Mason will attempt to end his three fight losing streak against Smith in their third fight. Mason has been a complete flop since returning from injury, losing to Lefter Oktay, Shane Gilchrist and Kunimichi Kikuchi. Any hopes of a title shot were shattered, and he has fallen off the GAMMA top ten. As a last resort, Mason has been given a fight against Smith, who he defeated back in 1998 but lost to recently. Smith had won back to back fight recently before being defeated by Frank Sheedy in an upset. He will attempt to get his career back on track with a win over a very vulnerable Mason. Smith's striking leaves a lot to be desired, but he is very dangerous on the ground, and has knocked out several opponents like that. Mason is much better on his feet, but is largely useless on the ground, making these two polar opposites. Both of these fighters need a win, but Mason needs it a lot more, as his career in GAMMA may begin to be in jeopardy.
Drew Jenks vs Elgar
The Legend Killer returns to GAMMA after a 5 month absence and looks to continue his winning streak against Jenks, who recently cancelled the momentum he had gained throughout 1999 with three straight losses. Elgar has looked particularly good in his last two fights, beating Michael Bannon and Garry McSweegan, and has been a mainstay on the Light Heavyweight top ten for years. He hasn't been given a fight against a top contender since his loss to Mike Watson in 1999, but if he were to win here, a fight against either Ricky Heath or Anthony LeToussier may be in the cards. Jenks' last win was an upset over LeToussier, before losing three straight to McSweegan, Heath and Watson. Jenks is desperate to get out of this tailspin he is in, and will try to use his world-class wrestling to get the job done. If Elgar can keep this fight standing, he will have the advantage, but Jenks' takedowns are nearly unstoppable, so that may be the deciding factor.
Carl Ratcliffe vs Tony McCall
This will be Ratcliffe's first fight in close to a year, and it will be perhaps his best opportunity to end his recent losing streak. Ratcliffe has lost his last two fights, and has only won one of his last five, despite remaining on the GAMMA top ten. This will be McCall's second fight in the Middleweight division, after losing his first fight to JJ Reid, and many are confident that he will lose this one as well. Ratcliffe is an excellent striker, and while he is lacking in takedown defense, he probably won't have to worry about it with an opponent like McCall, who likes to keep the fight standing up. McCall is a dangerous striker, but he has been completely ineffective in his last four or five fights, leaving many to think he won't be much of a threat against Ratcliffe.
Matthew Dean vs Marcus Speed
This fight may result in one of these fighters appearing on the GAMMA Lightweight top ten rankings. Dean recently dropped down to Lightweight after a pair of losses, and is looking to make an impact in his debut fight. Speed hasn't been able to recreate the success he had several years ago, and is coming off of a loss to Luke Hilton. It's unknown how Dean's weight change will affect his strength, but he is known for his takedowns and submissions, and will probably try to take the fight to the ground early on. Speed's Muay Thai background gives him an array of lethal strikes, so if he can stay standing, Dean will be in a lot of trouble.
Jack Humphreys vs Bixente Fontaine
Since breaking his massive losing streak back in 1999, Humphreys has only defeated two fighters, and has struggled with any top contenders who he has fought. Most recently, he was knocked out by Will Kane early in the third round, which was very reminiscent of many of losses during his losing streak. His next fight will be against Fontaine, a fighter who lost in his debut fight to Eli Harris and has had to wait for the better part of a year for a second fight. Fontaine was knocked out in 1:30 of the first round, so we really havent seen what he is capable of, but his previous fights in other companies indicate that he is a dangerous striker who can control fighters on the ground. It would be easy for Humphreys, an accomplished striker and dangerous submission fighter, to underestimate Fontaine, but Humphreys should know by now that taking fights likely is exactly how he lost twelve in a row.
Michael Bannon vs Ashley Ballard
Linfield Ballard was recently released from his contract after a loss to The Contender 2 winner Danny Akabaro, and now his younger brother may be in danger of following his lead. Ballard lost his last fight to Faas Smit several months ago, and has looked out of his element in his last several fights. He is facing Bannon, who looked good in his last fight, beating Nick Detroit, but who has a discouraging 9-9 record. Bannon proved that he can easily control opponents on the ground, as he did with Detroit, and was able to overwhelm his opponent with strikes for a TKO win. Ballard is useless against even competent wrestlers, but is much more dangerous striking, so this fight will be dictated by whether Ballard can stay on his feet or not.
Marvin Stevens vs Tank Manu'a
This fight will be like something out of a monster movie, as the two biggest Heavyweights in GAMMA face off. Both of these fighters need a win, as Manu'a is winless since coming to GAMMA, and Stevens has lost four of his last five fights. On paper, neither of these two titans has a clear advantage; Stevens relies on his strength to control opponents on the ground and is a terrible striker, while Manu'a's takedown defense is very good, but he has a glass jaw. This should be interesting if for nothing else to see which of these giants will fall first.
I'll be back momentarily with the Blurcat predictions.

GAMMA 53 has just come to an end, and here are the results:
Luis Basora vs Eli Harris Luis Basora wins via Submission 2:43 1st Round
Maarten De Vries vs Stuart Strange Stuart Strange wins via TKO 1:47 2nd Round
Giovani Silva vs Chojiro Goto Giovani Silva wins via decision
Steve Mason vs Thomas Smith Steve Mason wins via decision
Elgar vs Drew Jenks Elgar wins via Submission 3:36 1st Round
Carl Ratcliffe vs Tony McCall Tony McCall wins via TKO 1:54 3rd Round
Matthew Dean vs Marcus Speed Matthew Dean wins via decision
Jack Humphreys vs Bixente Fontaine Bixente Fontaine wins via decision
Michael Bannon vs Ashley Ballard Michael Bannon wins via Submission 3:32 3rd Round
Marvin Stevens vs Tank Manu'a Tank Manu'a wins via TKO 4:27 1st Round
Here are some of the highlights:
Bannon looked good in his submission win over Ballard, likely sending his opponent out of GAMMA. Bannon still has a ways to go before he's considered a serious threat to the Light Heavyweight , but this was a step in the right direction.
We finally got to see what Fontaine was capable of, soundly defeating Humphreys. People are already speculating on Humphreys' future, as it's beginning to look like he is slipping into another massive losing streak, but for the time being, Fontaine has moved up significantly in public opinion.
Mason got a huge reaction when he was announced the winner of his fight. This was a must win for Mason, and it ended the three fight losing streak he was in the midst of. He is still unranked, and has a long way to go before returning to his former level of fame, but he may now be able to gain some momentum going into his next fight.
Strange's win was a huge upset, and afterwards he demanded a title shot. De Vries announced that he would be changing weight classes, but surprised everyone when he announced he would be moving up to Light Heavyweight. De Vries will join Leon Banks, Mike Watson, Zvonimir Asanovic and Anthony LeToussier among others, in one of the most stacked divisions in GAMMA.
The two title fights didn't provide any upsets, as Harris lost in exactly the same way Basora beat him in their first fight, and Silva outclassed Goto for five rounds to retain.
Scott Avatar announced two massive fights for GAMMA 54, as Leon Banks will defend the Light Heavyweight title against Zvonimir Asanovic in what will be their third fight, and James Foster will meet Fatuma Roy for the first time ever. I'll let everyone know when I hear the rest of the card announced.

GAMMA 54:Lethal's full card has been announced, and here it is.
GAMMA 54: Lethal
Official Theme Song: "More Human Than Human" by White Zombie
Leon Banks vs Zvonimir Asanovic
This is one of the most anticipated title fights in the Light Heavyweight division, if not all of GAMMA. These two fighters have always been hovering around the top of the division, and their last two fights were four star classics. Banks recently won back the Light Heavyweight title after defeating Mike Watson, and his last loss was early last year to Asanovic. Asanovic has used his exceptional striking and submission skills to defeat Inejiro Chiba and Ricky Heath in the last six months, and will look to repeat the outcome of his last fight with Banks, where he knocked him out in the first round. Asanovic's submissions will likely be useless in this fight, as Banks' submission defense is foolproof. Banks' standup is just as dangerous, so Asanovic will have to prove that it wasn't a lucky punch last time.
James Foster vs Fatuma Roy
Incredibly, this will be the first time these two world class Heavyweights will face each other, and it has all the makings of a classic. Roy is currently the #2 ranked Heavyweight in GAMMA behind Tim Boyer, and currently has a three fight winning streak and a 24-8 record. In his last fight, he knocked Shane Gilchrist out in the first round, and has only lost to Boyer in the last four years. Foster, although seemingly unable to defeat Boyer throughout his career, has always been a force in the Heavyweight division, and has recently beaten Gilchrist, Eddie Whelan and Frank Sheedy. If it hadn't been for Rav Kapur's debut win over him, Foster would likely have been in Roy's #2 ranking. Foster has the advantage if he can get Roy off his feet, but Roy's takedown defense is fantastic, and Roy's striking beats Foster's questionable chin on any given day.
Buddy Garner vs Patrick Thomas
This will be Thomas' first fight since losing the Middleweight title, and it will be against a fighter who has a lot to prove. At one point, it looked like it was only a matter of time before Garner became the Light Heavyweight champion, but a huge upset loss to Jethro Munter changed all that. Following a loss to Garry McSweegan, Garner made the decision to drop back down to Middleweight, where he has gone 1-2 so far. He is being given a huge opportunity here, as a win over the former Middleweight champion would likely give him Maarten De Vries' old spot in the rankings. Thomas was the Middleweight champion for a year and a half, before losing a hard fought battle to Fernando Amaro via a unanimous decision. Thomas will need to regain his composure quickly if he wants to stay close to the title picture, and a win over the struggling Garner would do just that. Thomas is the total package when it comes to controlling opponents and using his striking to knock opponents out. Garner's takedown defense will be put to the ultimate test, but if the fight is taken to the ground, his submission expertise could end the fight in his favor.
JJ Reid vs Randy Carsley
Following his loss to Stuart Strange, Reid made the decision to drop down to the Welterweight division. His first fight will be against one of the division's best, and will be a good indication of whether Reid will have any success as a Welterweight. Carsley had amassed a four fight winning streak in 1999, earning him a title shot against Luis Basora, only to lose to the champion and to Ricardo Fernandes in his next fight. This is the first time Carsley has lost two fights in a row, and it may be a sign that his peak was short-lived, but he will do everything in his power to prevent a third loss. Carsley's punching is very powerful, as is his wrestling up close, but Reid's knees have knocked many opponents out, and even as a Middleweight he was able to control opponents on the ground. As a heavy Welterweight, he may have even more success.
Sean Morrison vs Jim Carpenter
Morrison's quest back to the top continues here, as he faces the veteran Carpenter for the first time. Carpenter has never had the kind of success in GAMMA that he had had in the past, although he has won two of his last three fights. He needs a big win to remain a serious contender, and Morrison is exactly the kind of fighter he needs to beat. Morrison now has three straight wins since being denied a title shot by Giovani Silva. Morrison has made it his mission to run through every other contender until Scott Avatar has no choice but to force a fight between Morrison and Silva. If Morrison intends to end the fight with a knock out, he may have difficulty with Carpenter's strong chin, but on the flip side, Carpenter will likely be unable to exploit Morrison's weakness when he's on his back, due to his ineffective takedowns. Carpenter will need to keep Morrison from getting ground control if he wants to stay in the fight, but it will be a question of whether Carpenter has the skills to finish the fight.
Kunimichi Kikuchi vs Shane Gilchrist
After losing his debut fight to Raul Hughes, he responded with a quick knock out win over Steve Mason, reestablishing himself as one of the best Heavyweights in the world. He has a chance to improve his standings, and make his way towards a title shot if he can get a win over Gilchrist recovered from a loss to Fatuma Roy with an intelligent win over newcomer Wilson Franklyn, using his superior ground game to control the inexperienced street fighter for three rounds. This fight will require a more well-rounded game than that, as Kikuchi is primarily a wrestler who has incredibly deadly submissions as well as the ability to quickly end fights on the ground with strikes. Gilchrist will need to gauge whether it is worth taking the fight to the ground or if he wants to contend with Kikuchi's striking and trade blows on his feet.
Julio Reguiero vs Sukarno
This fight was made after Reguiero's last win over Ichisake Miyagi, when Reguiero made comments regarding the Welterweight title, saying that it would only be a matter of time before he got another title shot. Sukarno, having only one fight in GAMMA, a loss to Eli Harris, apparently took offense to that and confronted Reguiero after the fight. It wasn't long before both fighters requested this fight, which leads us to this show. Sukarno's striking is very dangerous, and is able to defend submissions and takedowns easily, but if Reguiero can repeat Harris' strategy and take Sukarno off his feet, he may be able to end the fight with strikes, otherwise we may finally see the full power of the "legendary" Sukarno. If Reguiero wins, he may finally get the title shot he feels he deserves.
Mike Watson vs Nick Detroit
Watson had one of the best runs as Light Heavyweight champion in recent history, before being defeated by Leon Banks. In his return fight, Watson will face Detroit for the first time. Detroit is coming off a loss to Michael Bannon, but he recently defeated Faas Smit, a top ten mainstay, with a vicious first round knock out. We've seen what Detroit is capable of, and although it may be a long shot, we could potentially see a huge upset here. Detroit's kick boxing background provides a dangerous combination of strikes, but Watson has made a career out of trading shots with some of the heaviest hitters in GAMMA, and his chin is proven to be incredibly strong. Watson needs to keep his focus, and not take this fight lightly, or else he will add a fifth loss to his career record.
Lloyd McAllister vs Danny Akabaro
Akabaro looks to continue his streak against "The K.O. Kid". After winning the second season of The Contender, Akabaro became the first Contender fighter to beat a GAMMA regular, defeating Linfield Ballard with a third round TKO. He has looked great, blocking takedowns and exchanging punches like a seasoned pro, and he has proven that he can taken a punch. This will be vital against McAllister, who has knocked six of his past opponents out in the last five years. If Akabaro can keep his distance, shooting in to throw punches while avoiding the return fire of McAllister, he should be able to go three rounds with the more experienced fighter. This will be Akabaro's toughest fight yet, but a third straight win would continue to get him big fights, while a loss would be a major setback.
Jay Dorridge vs Darin Blood
Blood looks to end his recent string of bad luck against Dorridge, who is 1-2 in GAMMA. Since dropping down to the Lightweight division, Blood has been a huge disappointment, winning only one fight out of four. Blood was expected to be a major force in the Lightweight division, but has lost three straight and hasn't looked even remotely the same as the Blood of the Welterweight division. Some argue that Dorridge is being fed to Blood, as his first three fights in GAMMA have suggested that he is not in the same league as Blood, even at Blood's worst. Dorridge has a lot to prove if he wants to remain in GAMMA, and this is probably the best time to face Blood. Dorridge is almost unstoppable at taking opponents down, and is a decent boxer, so he will likely look to end the fight on the ground, but if the fight stays standing, which it likely will, thanks to Blood's takedown defense, Blood has the advantage, with his variety of knees and punching power.
Obviously, this is one of GAMMA's most stacked cards in years, and should be awesome from top to bottom. I'll post Blurcat's predictions shortly.

This show definately lived up to the hype, and was interesting as every fight went the distance. Upset of the night goes to Jim Carpenter's win over Sean Morrison. If this is the Carpenter we will be seeing from now on, it won't be long before he gets a title shot. Fight of the night goes to the main event, with Banks retaining his title in an incredible five star war.
A ton of news to discuss coming out of the show. First, Scott Avatar that episodes of GAMMA Full Force and GAMMA Unleashed would air within the next two months, with GAMMA Full Force taking place in two weeks. Also, the third season of The Contender would be airing next week, with the finals taking place at the next episode of GAMMA Unleashed, as has been the tradition for the last two seasons. Avatar also revealed that it would be Light Heavyweights competing for a shot at a GAMMA contract.
In the Lightweight division, Dominykas Jankovic has signed with GAMMA, and could fight as early as GAMMA 55, if not at one of the tv specials. Experts have Jankovic ranked as #6 in the division already, which means a potential title contender has just been added to the mix.
The Middleweight division just got two huge names, as Eli Harris and Garry McSweegan have decided to join the division. This is a huge shakeup for a division that was beginning to rely on up and coming fighters, and should revitalize the two fighters' careers.
Finally, two fighters who looked to be at the end of their GAMMA careers are going to be getting a second chance. Alan Kendall, the 12-11 fighter who hasn't fought in 14 months, and Rick Stanley, the legendary Heavyweight who has failed to win his last four fights, have both been given contract extensions and will fight sometime in the next six weeks. Stanley spoke briefly at GAMMA 54, thanking the fans for speaking out on his behalf. There was a movement on several sites, including Greydog, petitioning Stanley to remain in GAMMA, and it seems to have worked, at least temporarily.
GAMMA 55: No Mercy was announced, and will air from Florida at the end of the month, but no fights have been announced yet. A huge Heavyweight fight between Rav Kapur and Eddie Whelan is rumored, but nothing has been confirmed. Stay tuned for more.

I've just gotten word that the card for GAMMA Full Force has been announced. The Heavyweight fight between Rav Kapur and Eddie Whelan that was rumored to take place at GAMMA 55 will actually be the main event of this show instead. Here is the card in its entirety.
Rav Kapur vs Eddie Whelan
Two of the best Heavyweights in GAMMA will meet for the first time, and look to join a shortlist of possible contenders for Tim Boyer when he returns to the cage. Both Whelan and Kapur fought in England before coming to GAMMA, and both held the Heavyweight title there, but never faced each other. Whelan has a tremendous record in GAMMA, but his loss to James Foster probably prevented him from getting a potential title fight. Kapur got a title shot in his second fight, where Boyer ended the undefeated streak of Kapur, and now he is on a mission to get a rematch. Whelan's Muay Thai is among the best in the Heavyweight division, and he's very difficult to take off his feet. Kapur prefers to keep his distance when striking, which will allow him to avoid Whelan's deadly clinch, while using his loaded hands to try to end the fight.
John Rivero vs Michael Bannon
Rivero recently lost back-to-back fights for the first time in his career, and needs a win to remain in the crowded top ten. Bannon recently hit his stride, winning his last two fights. He is now in the top ten rankings, and is facing a former champion who is significantly higher up the rankings, so this is a huge opportunity for Bannon. Rivero's Sambo skills have won countless fights for him, and he can finish fights on the ground in a variety of ways. Bannon possesses decent submission defense, and can counter with dangerous ground strikes of his own.
Tony McCall vs Kramer Mayweather
In McCall's second Middleweight fight, he will face the debuting Mayweather, a fighter who was signed back in December of last year, but has held off his first fight until now. Mayweather joins Danny Akabaro and Diego Arteta on the list of rookie Middleweights in GAMMA, and has a big task ahead of him for his first fight. McCall looked great as a Middleweight, using his superior size and strength to dominate Ratcliffe. Mayweather is primarily a Muay Thai fighter, but his ability to effectively guard has been called into question, which could be a problem against the heavy handed McCall.
Alan Kendall vs Doug Hansen
Kendall returns to GAMMA after being inactive for well over a year, and will face the returning Hansen, fresh off an injury sustained during his knock out loss to Julio Reguiero. These two fighters need to turn their careers around, as Hansen hasn't lived up to his reputation, while Kendall has only won two of his last eleven fights. Kendall was at one point, one of the most consistent knock out fighters in GAMMA, and will need to return to his former ways if he wants to stay an active fighter. Hansen prefers to take the fight to the ground and look for a submission, but also has heavy hands. Kendall will need to stay standing if he wants to have any chance of winning this one.
Kenny Magilton III vs Callum Henson
Henson has been pretty hit or miss for the last year, recovering from a loss Jim Carpenter with a decision win over Ricardo Evans. Magilton looks to be returning to his losing ways, dropping back to back fights against Sean Morrison and Mario de Souza. Magilton is great on the ground and is one of the best Lightweights when on his back. Henson can knock opponents out with his heavy hands, and his takedown defense is great for a 152lb fighter. If Magilton can take Henson off his feet, he can control the fight for a decision win, but that will be likely be very difficult.
I'll have the Blurcat predictions up when they are posted.

Huge shocker tonight, as Sukarno has announced that he will be fighting as a Lightweight from now on. This was completely unexpected, and affects both the Lightweight and Welterweight division. More on this later.
