THE RULES!!

This is the code to which you will live your life from now on. Read them aloud to yourself each day, write them down and memorise every word. Likewise, when you get your role PM make sure you read it carefully and pay attention to what it says.

While most of the rules here have simply been copy and pasted from previous games, I have made some additions and alterations of my own. So don't think you can skip any of them!

HOW TO PLAY:

- All of you will be PM’d a role and your alignment. The objective is to eliminate all members of the opposing alignment from the game.

- Each player has been given a role with their own special ability. Your PM will explain what it does, if you are meant to know. You don’t have to reveal what your role is to the other players, nor will I do so in my updates. Then again there is nothing to stop you, so if you feel that it may help prove your innocence, go ahead – just keep in mind that this could also backfire and help the mafia. Likewise, you may lie about who you are if you wish. If you want to use your abilities, PM me. DO NOT post it in the thread.

- The game is split into two phases, Day and Night. The game begins during the day, and all players (Mafia and Townie alike) post in the thread, deciding who to kill off. Lynching is the only way for the Townies to kill the Mafia, so be sure to examine voting patterns of your fellow players. I might also provide clues in the death write ups, but over-reliance on those is ill-advised as some may be traps. Day phases will last 48 hours or until a concensus is reached. Night phases will last 24 hours but may end earlier if all night activites are concluded.

- All voting and discussion is to occur within the thread. Town players may discuss who they think is Mafia, and Mafia members should be trying to bluff/convince/blend in, and generally try not to get voted for. To vote, post Vote: Username (MUST BE IN BOLD!). You can also change your vote, by typing Change Vote: Username (AGAIN BOLDED!). You can also change your vote to nobody by typing Change Vote: No Vote (IN BOLD!). You can also choose to vote for No Lynching by using Vote: No Lynch (yeah... BOLDED!), meaning you actively vote to not lynch anyone during that day phase rather than passively not voting at all. You must post in the thread for your vote to be counted. You do not have to vote if you do not wish to. While I prefer people to use the "Change Vote" method to change their votes I will count any vote that says "Vote: X". However you must use the full username of the person who is being voted for or I will not include that vote.

- A lynch is achieved whenever a person obtains more than 50% of the vote or when the 48 hour day phase runs out. If no majority vote has been reached by the time the day phase expires, a no lynch will be declared. Once a person dies, I will reveal their alignment and role.

- Night falls after somebody is executed or a no lynch is achieved. During this time, the Mafia can discuss who they want to kill next (using whatever form of communication appeals to them) – if anyone at all. Abilities are also used during this time. To use an ability, PM me, and I’ll PM you the outcome of the ability. If it is something serious like somebody getting killed, I will update it in the thread. If possible though, try to PM me what you want to do as soon after night falls as possible to keep things moving along at a quick pace.

- Night ends once I post who gets killed, and the cycle repeats itself. The Town players win if all Mafia members are dead, and vice versa. Remember, this is a team effort, so if you think sacrificing someone may help your cause, go ahead.

-Remember, some roles such as investigators and protectors are more valuable to the town – so try to keep them alive!


RULES:

- I know it’s the Dog Pound, but try not to postwhore in the thread anyway. Feel free to trash talk, accuse, call out other players if you want, but if you’re going to vote, at least state some kind of reason as to why you’re doing so.

- Though I can’t force you to post, I’d love to see active participation. I would advise everyone try to check in with this game at least once a day. Things move fast and you can fall behind pretty easily.

- Once you are dead, you stay dead, and may not participate until the game is over. This includes notes found on your corpse, cryptic messages from the dead, etc, etc. You may also not advise the remaining players on what to do – besides, to prevent cheating, I will not provide the dead with any additional information than they would get if they were still alive. Of course, I’m willing to listen to your theories as to what’s going on. Likewise, I'd appreciate if those not taking part try not help those playing, though general comments on how things are going would be welcomed in the Sign Up Thread.

- Unless your role PM specifically states otherwise, all players may not discuss game plan, your role, or alignment outside the thread. Of course, I can’t enforce this, but I believe secretly revealing information amongst each other would spoil the game, so try not to do it.

- Players are not allowed to edit their posts in this thread at all, as it allows for those who make mistakes to remove all of the evidence without any effort. Since I can't enforce this, I strongly encourage all players to scrutinize any posts they notice that have been edited.

-Players are not allowed to cut and paste anything straight from the Role PM except the Role. No cutting and pasting of the body of the PM. You can paraphrase what your Role PM says but that is all.

I reserve the right to modkill if I find out that any of these rules have been broken. Please remember that you are not the only one playing this game, so don't ruin it for everyone else!

The mods for this game are derek_b and Arrows. All PMs regarding abilities, questions or anything else should be sent to both mods so that we each know what is going on. If you fail to communicate your information to both of us and we miss something as a result, we will stand by the information we did receive. You have be warned! :p

NIGHT 0

The advert for E-Ville has been circulating all around the Major city area for a while now. The town’s new commercial district has been completed and a number of small businesses and franchises have already moved into premises there. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of homes have been built as the town is rejuvenated by a massive government investment and initiative.

For some people this is just another small town to try and make money from. For others it’s a chance to get on the property ladder after spending years stuck in the middle of the big city. For others it’s the chance for a quiet life and maybe even their retirement home. Others have lived here for their entire life, greeting the newcomers with their own mixtures of smiles and disdain.

One couple arrived filled with mixed emotions. A fresh start. A chance to retire. A chance to get away from all their troubles in Major City. A chance to have a real life after the difficult times they had endured over the last few years.

The short story… the mafia mole was discovered as the sting closed in. Shots were fired and he was lucky to escape with one excruciatingly painful shot in his knee and a second that ripped through his ear only because the hitman’s aim was thrown when he was tackled by an officer at the last moment. It was officially time to retire. He had to think about his family, and the mafia were largely taken down by the rest of the team, although the Don never was found.

The last of their things were brought in by the movers, many of their possessions being too heavy for them to carry because of his knee. Their two bed-roomed home in the suburbs was perfect for their new life even if they were still potentially under threat. No-one had wanted to move but they knew they had to. They thought they would be safe but unfortunately this would prove to not be the case…

”A friend of mine wanted to congratulate you for retiring. He asked me to deliver a gift to you….”

BANG!! The first shot surprised him as it caught him hard in the chest and he fell to the floor with a sidelong look to his wife. She didn’t need to be told what to do and made a run for the door but the hitman was accurate and deadly. She was almost out the door as the second shot BANG!! hit her in the back of the head and sent her sprawling out onto the lawn. He saw her fall before the hitman stood over him, the familiar face showing no signs of remorse for what he had done.

”You?”

”Didn’t you know? Heh. Well, I guess you can’t be right all the time. Good bye, forever this time.”

BANG!!

A noise outside the house startled the hitman before he could have a good look around. Silently, he slipped out the back door as the first body was found by one of the neighbours and when the police cars arrived, he was long gone…

I find this interesting only because that's the kind of statement that should be coming from a) an experienced mafia player and/or b) someone who knows the players well enough for intuition to be somewhat credible.

DGL, you're neither of these, correct? That being said, I'd be interested to hear more about your 'theories'. I don't want to dismiss them out of hand, because fresh perspectives are often valuable and are ignored to veterans' risk (right THEDEMONSEED?), but I really gotta understand your thought process before I can really make a judgement.

Actually, that's not correct . . . From the rules on the front page:

"Players are not allowed to cut and paste anything straight from the Role PM except the Role. No cutting and pasting of the body of the PM. You can paraphrase what your Role PM says but that is all."

Emphasis mine. So since he only did the role, no rule was broken.

Maybe it's because I'm a newbie, but thus far panix04 hasn't done anything suspicious that I've noticed. There are a couple of people starting to set off the mental alarm, but still not enough to warrant a lynch. I know someone will probably make a mistake before the lynch, but that mistake hasn't been made yet.

As for TJRoH, for now I'm willing to forgive the no reasoning and chalk it up to being a newbie, though jumping on a bandwagon is slightly suspicious. I'm gonna keep my eyes open.

That confusing townie can be the difference between winning and losing. Again, maybe I'm too new to know any better, but I would think it prudent to figure the difference between mafia and goofball before lynching.

Correct. I just read that mafia wiki thing that was posted in the other thread and studied up a little. I usually find that one is better at playing a game when one reads the instructions to said game. I don't know anyone enough to go on intuition, unfortunately, but I'm pretty good with running numbers.

Problem is, making my theories known on Day 1 could give the mafia an edge if they haven't thought of what I'm thinking of. Then again, if they decide to kill me, I won't be able to give my theories as to what's going on, so it's a matter of rolling the bones at this point.

Question is, how likely am I to get killed? I honestly don't know. Still, given how smart I'm trying to play this, I may have screwed myself over and ensured my getting killed tonight. I have no way of knowing, though I really do hope people will go easy on me and not kill me on the first day. I'm not gonna count on mafia going easy on a newbie, though.

To tell, or not to tell, that is the question. If I tell, and I get some of my calls right, the mafia are sure to kill me. If I'm wrong, they'll just be laughing at how much of a newbie I am.

Yeah, you're right. Okay, I'm gonna tell all my theories except who I think has certain roles. Only problem is, if I correctly guess a cop or something, but we have a doctor who hasn't figured it out yet, that could get someone important killed.

As for screwups, well

VG was my first game. i was the Don. I admit I made some mistakes there.
DOTT. I did a little better, but ultimately I helped talk the town out of lynching UT. So yeah, I screwed up.

Star Wars... well, we won't even discuss that.. although by my count something half a dozen people screwed up horribly that game, I was just the first.

Cartoon Chaos... I worked the role that was given to me about as well as anyone could. That game has been discussed enough, so I don't believe its worth repeating over again.

Rocky and Bullwinkle. I am really proud of what I was able to do that game. Of course being grouped with Crychon and MJ was a big help, and all in all I think the RCMP was probably the most effective town 'masonish' group to date.

Dunno if that makes me a target now or not, but I think I have matured as a player and have something to offer the town. I think my screw up days are over.

First off, assuming the roles were indeed assigned randomly, I think it's an incredibly bad move to look at players based on previous performances. Odds are, you'll get it wrong, and even worse, there's a chance you'll kill someone we need.

That said, I'm looking over the previous posts now and have discovered things I didn't see before. Here are my theories thus far:

panix04 has indeed done one thing suspicious. Not a big thing, but it's something. He was the third person to jump on the bandwagon to vote for Self, which gives him a chance of being Mafia. Of course, getting his own bandwagon including other suspects, in my mind, lowers his chances of being mafia.

machinesxe quickly took only 8 minutes to change his vote to Self after panix04 jumped on the bankwagon, making him the fourth to jump on and giving a chance of being Mafia. He then quickly changed his vote to panix04 once that bandwagon came up.

nZane strikes me as slightly suspicious, he seemed pretty interested in talking the town into a lynch, claiming we could get information from it. I would think logic dictates that since it's more likely to lynch an innocent on the first day, and that loss could hurt, that he could possibly be mafia. That or he's right, I'm not certain.

On that same note, Antithesis, you were quick to jump on the bandwagon for panix04 and also seem to be pushing for a lynch on the first day. Again, either you guys are right that no lynch helps mafia (which I can't fathom that being the case), or you could be mafia.

This also presents a case of TJRoH, who jumped on the bandwagon without a word, though like I said, I'd chalk it up to him being a newbie for now. Him changing to join in No Lynch could be trying to cover up a mafia goof or a way to redeem himself.

Wallbanger, I'm split on. If me revealing my theories would help mafia, he could be one trying to pry me for information. Or he might want the information for another reason. I'm not sure.

Imarevenant and TheEdgeOfReason currently strike me as almost certainly not guilty. The Shape is probably innocent as well since he did stop me from revealing all my theories, which seems to indicate care for the town, though it could be a trap.

Way I see it, I'm either so far off course that the mafia are laughing at me, or I'm gonna get killed tonight. Or maybe doing this saves me, since it would indicate that if I'm killed, the mafia would be showing their cards since I've named specific people. Who knows?

On the topic of lynching on previous performances, while we can't base it on previous roles we can look at how people have played in the past and determine if they would even be any good to the town if they are town. First off, assuming the roles were indeed assigned randomly, I think it's an incredibly bad move to look at players based on previous performances. Odds are, you'll get it wrong, and even worse, there's a chance you'll kill someone we need.

That said, I'm looking over the previous posts now and have discovered things I didn't see before. Here are my theories thus far:

panix04 has indeed done one thing suspicious. Not a big thing, but it's something. He was the third person to jump on the bandwagon to vote for Self, which gives him a chance of being Mafia. Of course, getting his own bandwagon including other suspects, in my mind, lowers his chances of being mafia.

nZane strikes me as slightly suspicious, he seemed pretty interested in talking the town into a lynch, claiming we could get information from it. I would think logic dictates that since it's more likely to lynch an innocent on the first day, and that loss could hurt, that he could possibly be mafia. That or he's right, I'm not certain.

On that same note, Antithesis, you were quick to jump on the bandwagon for panix04 and also seem to be pushing for a lynch on the first day. Again, either you guys are right that no lynch helps mafia (which I can't fathom that being the case), or you could be mafia.

This also presents a case of TJRoH, who jumped on the bandwagon without a word, though like I said, I'd chalk it up to him being a newbie for now. Him changing to join in No Lynch could be trying to cover up a mafia goof or a way to redeem himself.

Wallbanger, I'm split on. If me revealing my theories would help mafia, he could be one trying to pry me for information. Or he might want the information for another reason. I'm not sure.

Imarevenant and TheEdgeOfReason currently strike me as almost certainly not guilty. The Shape is probably innocent as well since he did stop me from revealing all my theories, which seems to indicate care for the town, though it could be a trap.

Way I see it, I'm either so far off course that the mafia are laughing at me, or I'm gonna get killed tonight. Or maybe doing this saves me, since it would indicate that if I'm killed, the mafia would be showing their cards since I've named specific people. Who knows?

Here is where your inexperience, at least with most of us, comes in to play. There are a group of players, myself included, who hate no lynches. Whether we are town or mafia we generally dislike the idea of doing "nothing". Sure there is a chance of hitting town, but I think we gain more information by lynching a townie than lynching no one. You can analyze who voted to kill a townie if no one dies it's hard to read in to. Each player has their own opinions and trying to decide if they are mafia or not based on play style alone won't work.

Also, I'm not sure I follow you on "he was the third to jump in, he could be mafia". Just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. The first person to vote is just as suspicious as any other person who votes. Only exceptions are hammer votes and quick votes by multiple people.

All that being said, I'm not sure who I want to vote for right off the bat.

DGL the reason a no-lynch helps the mafia is that we don't even take a shot at getting mafia and they can pick us off at night.

If we start to vote no-lynch then they just blend in...a couple of them vote no-lynch and the rest lay back so it makes it more difficult to find a voting pattern. Meanwhile we don't even take a shot at getting someone who could be bad.

Most of the time we will end up hitting a townie, but we can also push the phase to the limit and learn as much as possible during that phase.

Any largely significate can in behavior or posting many is generally viewed as sus, unless the person in question has had a bad game previously, for example our dear Panix during Star Wars mafia got his wires cross with his ally MJ, which resulted in the lynched of MJ and Panix's committing suicide the following night phase. Panix was then re-entered the game and got lynched, the poor guy played female characters both time. As a result of these incidents in the Star Wars game no one questioned Panix's quietness in the following game Cartoon Chaos, although perhaps they should have given that he turned out to a bad bad guy.

On the other end of the scale, Anti is known for his chattyness so during the previous game when he was quiet people where on him pretty fast thinking that he must scummy.

Generally we tend to expect people to behave the same way the always behave and look suspiciously upon any change in behavior.

I lived longer as a pretty much generic scum Elmer Fudd, then I did as a Roleblocking Natasha.

It's all about how a player plays, not the ability they have. (The ability helps though.)

agree here, never understood the logic behind a no lynch at any stage of the game never mind the first day, the lynch is the towns main weapon against the scum, if were afraid to use it then the mafia gets a free ride in my opinion, even lynching a 'power role' can give us vital information as to the voting patterns of players.
