He stood there, taking in the thunderous applause. He was basking in it, on top of the world. Adam Ryland had just gave his acceptance speech after have received the software developer of the year award for his record breaking title TEW2008. He turned and gave a wink to Arlie Rahn who was standing just off stage.

"Thank you, thank you." He waved at the crowd. "Thank you." He made his way off stage.

As he walked down the corridor away from the stage area with Arlie, he said "Man I don't think things can get any better!"

"Oh yeah they can, TEW2009! LOL!" Arlie replied. Both men shared a laugh as they made their way to the car.

On the way back to GDS, they talked about the year they had shared. The success of WMMA, the unparalleled success of TEW2008. The highly anticipated release of BBPF. They were nearing the pinnacle of their profession. It seemed nothing could derail them.

As they pulled into the parking lot, Arlie said "You want to go out for a drink?"

Adam "Love to, but I promised some of the guys I'd look over some things for a new mafia game that is fixing to crank up in the Dog Pound."

Arlie "Mafia again? LOL, what is that stuff all about? Seems to have caught fire. There is always one of those games going on."

Adam "Yep, seems to be addictive. You don't know how many times I have had to say no to adding a new sub forum to the Dog Pound just so there is a separate place for them to play! LOL"

Arlie "Yeah I have seen all those threads basically demanding that and the calling for the development of a Sims game based on the premise."

Adam "Can you imagine the coding for something like that?"

Arlie "From the looks of some of those posts they don't think coding one of these games is all that hard. They don't want to take no for an answer."

Adam "Some of those guys live eat and breath that stuff. Take it way too seriously ."

Arlie "I'll walk you up, got some things in the office I need to take home. Maybe I'll take a look at what you are working on."

Adam "Sounds good, who knows maybe you can give me some ideas. LOL"


They got off the elevator and went to Adam's office. "Now where did I put that packet?" He ruffles through some papers and folders on his desk. "Ah here it is."

Outside across the street, he stood patiently waiting. He had followed them from the convention center. Watched them get out and enter the building. Saw the lights come on in Adam's office. He smiled.

"Tick tock tick tock....."

Adam "Get a load of this title."

Arlie taking it starts to laugh "You have got to be kidding me?"

Adam "Haha, man these guys need to get a life! Go ahead open it; this should be good."

Arlie slipped his finger under the tab and pulled it across to open it. As soon as he did he froze. Terrified look flashed across his face. All the two great programmers heard was the faint sound emitting from the packet. Almost like a match being lit.

PSSST.......





BOOM!!!!




The office building was strewn with debris. The blast had completely vaporized the two men.

THE RULES!!

This is the code to which you will live your life from now on. Read them aloud to yourself each day, write them down and memorise every word. Likewise, when you get your role PM make sure you read it carefully and pay attention to what it says.

While most of the rules here have simply been copy and pasted from previous games, I have made some additions and alterations of my own. So don't think you can skip any of them!

HOW TO PLAY:

- All of you will be PM’d a role and your alignment. The objective is to eliminate all members of the opposing alignment from the game.

- Each player has been given a role with their own special ability. Your PM will explain what it does, if you are meant to know. You don’t have to reveal what your role is to the other players, nor will I do so in my updates. Then again there is nothing to stop you, so if you feel that it may help prove your innocence, go ahead – just keep in mind that this could also backfire and help the mafia. Likewise, you may lie about who you are if you wish. If you want to use your abilities, PM me. DO NOT post it in the thread.

- The game is split into two phases, Day and Night. The game begins during the day, and all players (Mafia and Townie alike) post in the thread, deciding who to kill off. Lynching is the only way for the Townies to kill the Mafia, so be sure to examine voting patterns of your fellow players. I might also provide clues in the death write ups, but over-reliance on those is ill-advised as some may be traps. Day phases will last 48 hours or until a concensus is reached. Night phases will last 24 hours but may end earlier if all night activites are concluded.

- All voting and discussion is to occur within the thread. Town players may discuss who they think is Mafia, and Mafia members should be trying to bluff/convince/blend in, and generally try not to get voted for. To vote, post Vote: Username (MUST BE IN BOLD!). You can also change your vote, by typing Change Vote: Username (AGAIN BOLDED!). You can also change your vote to nobody by typing Change Vote: No Vote (IN BOLD!). You can also choose to vote for No Lynching by using Vote: No Lynch (yeah... BOLDED!), meaning you actively vote to not lynch anyone during that day phase rather than passively not voting at all. You must post in the thread for your vote to be counted. You do not have to vote if you do not wish to. While I prefer people to use the "Change Vote" method to change their votes I will count any vote that says "Vote: X". However you must use the full username of the person who is being voted for or I will not include that vote.

- A lynch is achieved whenever a person obtains more than 50% of the vote or when the 48 hour day phase runs out. If no majority vote has been reached by the time the day phase expires, a no lynch will be declared. Once a person dies, I will reveal their alignment and role.

- Night falls after somebody is executed or a no lynch is achieved. During this time, the Mafia can discuss who they want to kill next (using whatever form of communication appeals to them) – if anyone at all. Abilities are also used during this time. To use an ability, PM me, and I’ll PM you the outcome of the ability. If it is something serious like somebody getting killed, I will update it in the thread. If possible though, try to PM me what you want to do as soon after night falls as possible to keep things moving along at a quick pace.

- Night ends once I post who gets killed, and the cycle repeats itself. The Town players win if all Mafia members are dead, and vice versa. Remember, this is a team effort, so if you think sacrificing someone may help your cause, go ahead.

-Remember, some roles such as investigators and protectors are more valuable to the town – so try to keep them alive!


RULES:

- I know it’s the Dog Pound, but try not to postwhore in the thread anyway. Feel free to trash talk, accuse, call out other players if you want, but if you’re going to vote, at least state some kind of reason as to why you’re doing so.

- Though I can’t force you to post, I’d love to see active participation. I would advise everyone try to check in with this game at least once a day. Things move fast and you can fall behind pretty easily.

- Once you are dead, you stay dead, and may not participate until the game is over. This includes notes found on your corpse, cryptic messages from the dead, etc, etc. You may also not advise the remaining players on what to do – besides, to prevent cheating, I will not provide the dead with any additional information than they would get if they were still alive. Of course, I’m willing to listen to your theories as to what’s going on. Likewise, I'd appreciate if those not taking part try not help those playing, though general comments on how things are going would be welcomed in the Sign Up Thread.

- Unless your role PM specifically states otherwise, all players may not discuss game plan, your role, or alignment outside the thread. Of course, I can’t enforce this, but I believe secretly revealing information amongst each other would spoil the game, so try not to do it.

- Players are not allowed to edit their posts in this thread at all, as it allows for those who make mistakes to remove all of the evidence without any effort. Since I can't enforce this, I strongly encourage all players to scrutinize any posts they notice that have been edited.

-Players are not allowed to cut and paste anything straight from the Role PM except the Role. No cutting and pasting of the body of the PM. You can paraphrase what your Role PM says but that is all.

-Though I can't keep you from role claiming, I would advise against it.

-And another pet peeve. Play your role/alignment.

I reserve the right to modkill if I find out that any of these rules have been broken. Please remember that you are not the only one playing this game, so don't ruin it for everyone else!

The blast was heard for miles around. People came from near and far to get a glimpse of what use to be GDS Headquarters. All the members of the GDS-Verse stood around in bewilderment. Not knowing exactly what to make of it or what to do next.

When one man stepped from the crowd. His was always a calming influence, a voice of reason. "We still have these great games that Adam and Arlie left us. And we have each other. The GDS-Verse will not fade. We the members will keep it strong. Pull together. And sort all this out."

"Well what should we do first?" Came a voice from the crowd.

"We have to first choose a new moderator for the forums. If not then they will fall into utter chaos. Every troll on the internet will lurk and it will become a breeding ground for those filthy spam bots. I think we should do that immediately. I will even cast the first vote. I vote for...."

No one even heard the shot or had any idea where it came from, all they know is the one that he had stepped forward was now slumped over and not moving. They are scurried to the safety of their homes. It was a lot safer to conduct this business on the internet.....

Everyone Please Read:

On Day 1, instead of a daily lynch, players nominate and then vote for their Moderator (due to the fact that Adam Ryland and Arlie Rahn were killed on Day 0)

After receiving a majority vote, a single player becomes Moderator and Night Phase begins. The Moderator-elect gains all powers of a Moderator beginning this Night Phase (Night Phase 1).

Players be aware of these particular rules:
- The Moderator cannot be targeted for ANY abilities at night. This includes investigations, role blocks, and night kills.
- Each Day Phase, the Moderator must choose, and post in the game thread, one player to place in the town’s lockup overnight. That player cannot be targeted for any abilities, but likewise cannot use any of their own abilities during the night.
-You are free to nominate anyone you feel is worthy of acting as moderator. Including yourself. I personally wouldn't, but there is nothing to stop you.

A Moderator’s term lasts three Night Phases. On Days 4, 7, 10, 13, etc… the Day Phase will be divided into two parts, Morning & Afternoon(each 24 hours). In the Morning, the nomination and election process for Moderators will be repeated, with the incumbent already considered ‘nominated’. In the Afternoon players will vote to lynch a victim as normal, after which Night Phase begins again.

Moderators CAN be lynched if the majority of the town thinks it necessary. If this happens, the #2 voted candidate in the last election takes over as Moderator until the next election.

This process continues until the game ends.

It is Day Phase 1. You have until 1000AM EST/300PM GST on Friday April 4th to choose a moderator. If at that time a majority is not reached, then the player with the most votes will be elected the first moderator.

When nominating someone for mod? Do you think we should still use the "Vote: AAA" thing? It may confuse people if they're not sure which part of day we're on. Perhaps "Mod: AAA" or "Nominate: AAA"? Superficial I know but I can see people who don't read the whole thread, more casual players, getting confused as to what we're doing.

Well, it's definitely good to have a positive alternative to the usual Day 1 random lynch. Sure it worked in CC with Megatron's first step in the bizzare chain of scum stepping into the light, but most other times it's a pure shot in the dark and sucks.

So, who do we see as the Mod man for the first three days? I wouldn't mind the gig, but I'm not about to go ahead and nominate myself. Ah well, I'd better be off to bed for now anyway, I'll catch you all later on.

Well this is going to be fun. Leave it to Outlaw to put a crazy spin on the game. As far as who the mod should be I'm not sure yet. Undertaker666 is one of the best players I've ever been with. The problem is if he is scum he could be setting his roots in the town early and it will be almost impossible to tell if he's loyal or not

Everyone on Wall's list, and Wall himself, should be feared at this stage. Everyone in the game should be feared really, but that list+Wall really is a whos who of guys who could easily lead a town, or destroy it, depending on the roles.

I know this won't be a huge game for me, after looking at what I can do. Seems like I'll be useless for most of the game outside of what I can deduct rationally with just my mind. Of course, knowing my luck I'm dead night 1 this game and none of that matters.

I agree that we shouldn't pick the first person we think of just to do so. I think we should pass around names, and positives/negatives to making them the mod.

I can't see myself voting for Taker as mod, because if he's scum, we're going to need to find out and get it over with. While I guess the same could be said for any of us, I could see Derek being easier to catch in the long run. I've had Taker dead to rights as a mafia don and him battle his way out of it, and that's something I'd rather not have to go through again.

May not be the most important thing, but considering this would make someone bulletproof, we could really capitalize if we can find a solid townie to throw into the mod spot that would usually be a target night 1. Would be one less protectors would have to worry about, and they'd know they wouldn't have to worry about it.

I think we need to be really careful about who we thrust into this spot. If a lower mafia member gets it, especially a smart player, we could be in a lot of trouble. With that said though, we need to use this for everything it's worth when we can, and putting it on a solid player we think we can figure out could be a huge assist to the town.

I could sit here and say that a select group is more likely to get killed the first night than not, but honestly, there's no way of knowing for sure. If I had a kill Derek would be my first choice to take out, but for some people, they might go the opposite and pick off the weak links, figuring they won't be protected, while letting the strong players get lynched for not dying.

Anyway, back to the task at hand. I've been thinking about what I suggested earlier and there's a flaw in that plan. Even if we elect a less than stellar Mafia player or a newbie, if that person is scum then they could still have a prolific player guiding them. I hate the first day phase. :(

Depends on who's playing. They've got a few all-stars, but a victory in Jobber Mafia, had us only lose two members of the Mafia, one of which when we attacked a Bomb.

In a game with this many players there are likely to be multiple roles/methods of protection.

But you point out yet another reason why being an early mod has the potential to suck -- you could easily end up putting the wrong people (protectors, vigilantes, etc) in lockup.

Oh, and I'm speculating that Arrows' character must be Panix what with all the references to playing with himself. :p

I don't see IER, Rev, or nZane being an early target for a killing. May not be the most important thing, but considering this would make someone bulletproof, we could really capitalize if we can find a solid townie to throw into the mod spot that would usually be a target night 1. Would be one less protectors would have to worry about, and they'd know they wouldn't have to worry about it.
