TEW 08: 1991 AND 1992 RW Mod (Anticipation Station)

1991







It is year 1991 and the 1990’s are still very young. Wrestlemania is 4 months away, and for this year Vince McMahon has big plans to run Wrestlemania in the largest arena yet, the LA Sports Coliseum, with hopes of breaking the Wrestlemania III attendance record and of course, making a truckload of money. It’s obvious however that it will be harder then he thinks. His big idea to run Hulk Hogan Vs. freshly heel turned Sgt. Slaughter in an American Hero Vs. Iraq Sympathizer match is flopping, as early reaction to the gimmick has been luke-warm.

That is not Vince’s only option however.

Mark Calloway, formerly known as Mean Mark, recently debuted at the last PPV under an intriguing gimmick where he is being referred to as The Undertaker. Unlike Slaughter, the reaction to the Undertaker has been red hot from the very beginning. His undead monster character is the perfect one for a Hogan feud one would think.

Or will the enigmatic Ultimate Warrior not drop the belt at all. Will you instead try to rely on the Warrior to fill the Coliseum, to load the Coliseum, load them with the Warriors?

In general, will you continue to run with the old guard, or begin the "New Generation" a few years early. It could be a long road to re-condition fans to not believing the "Bigger is Better" approach that the company has pushed for so many years, but talented as well as charismatic wrestlers such as Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels could make the transition easy.


As WCW, will you continue to try and style yourself as the WWF despite fans objection, or push a contrasting product to satisfy your longtime fans and convert others. A lightweight division perhaps, or an infusion of foreign talent. A properly formed 4 Horseman if nothing else.


Or, as the WWF, will you try to get the one and only Ric Flair away from the WCW in time to do Hogan Vs. Flair for the first time ever? How will you "Fill The Coliseum"? One thing is for sure--- Hogan-Slaughter isn't going to do it.

Very impressed with the number of workers you got and the fact you are aiming for something era specific, though I wonder how possible that is with the amount of data you are working with.

Most of the top 3's look good to me, a few I disagree with and some of it is a little USA-centric but it looks like being a solid mod.

Oh and some news, everyone will see from the topic the the release date for this is pushed back as I've decided, since I was working on it for myself anyway, to also release my 1991 mod, which obviously will be directly based from the 1992 mod. So a little variety of choice I figure. In addition to major roster changes obviously, there will also be minor statistical changes, but the mods will definitely go hand in hand with one another. sorry for the delay but i was on vacation and havent even had the chance to buy the full version of TEW yet.

Dont worry theyre actually A rated right along with him, I think all around the 85-90 range, I just got more then 3 in the A and above range when I did the filter, so I didnt feel like listing them all.

How it matters is it adds a lot of legitimacy to the wrestlers, and ultimately, the company. You need a real world parallel, Bill Watts fired anybody who lost a real life fight outside wrestling. I'm not being a prick and saying just because I like it that way, it has to be, but I remember Adam saying thats what the toughness stat meant.

I don't think so. It's personality what matters in the backstage incidents. I don't think there other incidents if one of the backstage brawlers is a lot tougher than the other. Eventhough it would be fun to read "Balls Mahoney ripped a new A-hole for Randy Orton in a backstage brawl initiated by Randy".

For the record thats a bit of a dated screenshot, his brawling has since been revised the past week from the 55 range to 45. Minor but brings it down a letter grade which is not only probably more accurate, but looks better cosmetically. When it comes to the Warrior, there is no individual interpreation, he blew in ring.

I think D16NJD16 made the right call on this.

Oh one thing though D16NJD16, pretty sure Jeanie Clark is English not American as she is listed.

Yea I mean to me it works perfectly, so that if and when Mick Foley gets signed to WWF, he'll go in as Mankind, or a much lesser chance, Cactus Jack or Dude Love. Its worked out really well when I've simmed it. Or Kevin Nash using Diesal only in the WWF, but never anywhere else.


Also fixed Jeannie Clarke's age, her age wasen't listed on wikipedia or anywhere else, but I was able to get a much closer estimate from a Chris Adams shoot interview that said she was 20-21 when she "first started out".

I'm almost certain this inclusion will be Gary Albrights TEW Mod debut, as I've never seen him in any of the other mods I've ever played personally. You'll find alot of other instances of wrestlers similar to Albright who for one reason or another have always seemed to allude most mods

UWFi, the hyper-realism "shoot" promotion based in Japan. It was probably the most realistic worked promotion I've ever seen to this day. It will be a "Yet To Debut" promotion in the 1991 Mod, and feature full roster in the 1992 Mod.

You can't have true shoot matches in TEW. The outcome will always be based on someone booking it, be it you or if you leave the notes blank, the road agent in question. So hyper realism in a nutshell is basically .. LIKE MMA but not quite there ^^

Yeah UWFi wasn't actually a shoot, but it was as close to it as worked pro wrestling gets. Like someone said since no actual shoot matches exist in TEW, I put it at Hyper Realism all the way, and it sims well.

Another update for everyone. Just today I was lucky enough to stumble upon a great asset, which is the 1990 Wrestling Observer Yearbook. For those of you who dont remember these, they featured a wrestler directory, listing every promotions rosters(as of 1/1/91 for example), as well as hundreds of free agents. It is far superior to Solie.org. Now I wish I had discovered this months ago before I took on finding these things out in much harder ways, but Im still figuring to be adding a decent amount from this, I added 30 guys from the free agent section that I thought retired alone this past hour.

One thing I have to say, your profiles are great. You really put alot of work into them and it shows. This whole mod looks like it was well crafted instead of hasilty put together and I'd imagine it comes across great in gameplay.

I just imagined that not everyone has an encyclopedic memory of what certain point certain guys were at in their career 10 or 15 years ago now at this point and it would be pretty useful to put as much time specific info in there as possible, at least for all the major guys.

Personally I'm really glad he's taking his time with this. Most of the other mods so far have seemed hasty and thrown together. This has a lot of potential because he's making sure it runs to his standards. It just looks like its going to be an extremely complete mod(s) and I can't wait.

thanks, I actually did have a some people PM me so dont get too down on the board, but at the moment I'm still looking for a title screen, thats my main want and I know those are the most work but it would look sweet, plus I have a few ideas for it. Aside from that im posting various cut requests in the cut request threads like everyone else and hoping they get filled, so anyone that frequents there, keep a look out for me in the next week.

I totally understand that decision, eventhough I would just love to see the, almost ready, '92 mod out. This way both mods get the same respect from the community. You can get both out at the same time so they get same focus from you. Those bios rock! The stats of the mod seem to be in nice balance to allow smooth gameplay, can't wait to try out by myself.

I love booking the WWF, but, I don't like booking the top fed, so I will either edit the data to make WCW the top fed with an advantage, or play as WCW.

I enjoy playing the #2 fed, trying to catch up.

As for the banners it's going to feature about 7-10 promotion specific ones, and then a few website ones.

Im not really going to mess with all the screens, thats up to a persons preference, but with that said, everyone can be expecting some graphics posted in the final few days before the release.

Way to go D16NJD16 this era has loads of potential as Vince is trying to recover from having the Warrior flop as World Champ, Turner looking vary red faced after 'The Black Scopion' Fiasco and a vibrent idependent scene with USWA, UWF and the Salvadoris all being big hitters.

Alot of the cuts at the bottom of the 91 screen don't fit in with the time period at all. It's akward seeing King Booker, a current era Undertaker, etc. on the same screen as old school Sting and a young Hogan, Warrior, and Flair.

EDIT: But other than that, beautiful title screen, D16. And an awesome backstory. Makes me want to play as WWF in 91. LoL. Can't wait to see the screen and backstory for 92.

Incidentally, I would lose the title screen thing. It looks awful and amateurish, a better title screen would be suited to this mod. I'm sure there are plenty of graphic artist on this board who would gladly offer to make you a more suitable one.

Having said that I am looking forward to this mod, it shows some promise. Especially as you seem to be taking your time over it, and not rushing it out the door to gain some forum adoration. Unlike some mods that have been released thus far.

It was apparently due to Hogan's unwillingness to lose to Ric Flair and his departure for WCW the had them change the main event. That's what they say anyway. I'm not sure that big Sid would have the political clout to be able to change the Wrestlemania main event in any case.

Personally I love and appreciate the work Fenoli did on the screen just out of a total volenteer in the span of a few days. I just gave him the rough idea of what I had thought up, and he took care of basically everything. I love whoever said it looks awful and "amatuerish". As opposed to what, professional? Who's getting paid here? Every person on this board is an amatuer, and as we speak, Fenoli's screen is the only one that's actually been submitted. So thanks bro.

Actually just from reading about it a few nights ago in the Observer, Hogan and Flair were scheduled to have a feud after Wrestlemania, obviously people thought it was going to happen right away, but it didn't. However even as late as March 1992 according to Meltzer yes it was still planned to happen. But then it got scrapped because Hogan went on hiatus once the scandal started.

Although I should point out, one doesn't have to be a professional to produce work to a professional standard. For both 1991 and 1992 I definitely wanted to have the current main eventers and big stars sort of big and large in the background, say Hogan, Warrior, Savage, Flair. And then more on the bottom, in front of them but much smaller, almost in the shadow so to speak, what ended up being the stars of the future, say Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, Brian Pillman, etc.


As for the background, 1992 I'm not sure, but for 1991, I wanted to have something that would fit with the name of the mod, which is "Filling the Colliseum", and the meaning behind that is that in 1991 the WWF had planned to try and run Wrestlemania in the LA Colliseum, which fits like 90,000 fans and is gigantic, but because the main event was so lackluster and the product getting to be stale, they had to move to something smaller, like the LA sports Arena, because they knew they could not "Fill The Colliseum". With that said, I was thinking of having a shot of the Colliseum in the background

Yeah, that was kinda my signature into the screen too. Doing a King Booker cut rather than a normal Booker T. It was during this time that Booker T debuted as GI Bro on the texas indie circuit. He's one of the greatest of all time....

I guess only Adam would know the answer to that, it would be hard to determien what save game file is what since it adds about 100 files and theyre all labeled by random numbers 1-100 or whatever.

It'd be cool if there was something other than table, as you can tell it's not what everything is really laying on.

you take that same screen, darken it, take out the 90's mod part... and it would be a great background for all the other screens in the game. not that it would be a horrible title screen. I just think it would be an awesome start to a total screen mod.

Thank you sir. I did consider making a total screen mod, until I found out just how many screens were in the game. Although, if this design does prove popular I could consider doing it, including various 90's wrestling trinkets throughout.


There was no apostrophe in the font that I was using. I could add one from another font mind you. Any suggestions as to what I could use in the background as opposed to the table?

(Also, if anyone notices where the influence for this title screen came from, I'll be somewhat impressed. :) )

Personally I don't think this thing should be released until those sections are 100% complete and the mod has been tested by you for another week, just to iron out the kinks.

not me.... those three sections arent that big of a deal, and can be redone easily, not a big set back having to start them over. why test another week? they dont really affect gameplay, if he thought it was ready BEFORE they got deleted, then the mod she still be ready.

just make sure back up everything three times D16.....

Both of these mods look fantastic and have the potentail to be better than 'End of the Golden Era' on TEW '05 which is still my favourite mod ever. I'm a huge mark for the early 90's period of wrestling.

One quick question though, any idea what time the mods will be released tomorrow? I get in from work at around 6pm UK time and it'll either be a case of straight in, download and play or else get in, dinner, few beers in the pub then home to download and play, depending on what time it will be released.

I dunno the pictures I was finding weren't too good. I was gonna use a combination of Elizabeth, Sherri, Missy Hyatt, and Medusa/Alundra Blaze. It's hard to find any good pics to use of Hyatt where she is clothed. ;)
