View Full Version : Maw 2008: A "Strong" Year

2007 saw a lot of changes for the young Mid Atlantic Wrestling promotion in the Mid Atlantic region. For starters owner Rip Chord has gone to great lengths to see that his company is viewed as a "Small" promotion isntead of just a "local" one. He did this by running two of the finest indy shows in America. The Rip Chord Invitational, where indy stars from all over the world come to compete for the prestigious Cup, and Where It All Begins Again a show that always has some of the greatest matches in MAW.

However, the changes that MAW saw went well beyond just growing in size. For starters Rip finally learned how to use the internet, a huge feat in itself. And with this new found technology Rip discovered talent he would have possibly missed out on before. He brought in fresh blood to help keep things fresh for the fans. Of course with this huge influx of talent coming in it was only obvious some MAW faithful were going to be have their safety net taken away and they were going to have to go out and make it on their own.

Who's In

Cameron Vessey- Vessey is the son of legendary wrestler Larry Vessey. It didn't take a lot of work for Cameron to earn a spot on the MAW roster, all it took was a quick phone call from his dad.

Casey Valentine- Valentine is the nephew of Peter Valentine as was trained by none other than Rip Chord himself. Near the end of the 2007 year Rip decided Valentine was ready to make the jump to a stable promotion and quickly signed him onto the roster.

Citizen X- Citizen X is best known by wrestling fans for his time at CZCW. X was a rising star in the company until a pay dispust forced them to part ways and Citizen X quickly found his new home at Stanley Hall.

Duke Hazzard- Having decided to focus more of the affairs backstage Rip stepped away from the color commentator duties and quickly signed Hazzard perhaps for his Texas drawl.

Ernest Forthdyke-Hume- Hume plays the role of a quintessentially English man. He was brought into MAW to be the mouth piece for Findlay O'Farraday.

Findlay O'Farraday- A 300lb beast of a man, Findlay was one of the fortunate ones who was discovered due to Rip getting with the times and discovering the Internet.

Jefferson Stardust- "The Idol" is originally from Las Vegas. Stardust is just beginning his career in wrestling. And at 20 years old looks to be a great young prospect.

Kristen Pearce- Kristen is the younger sister of Jessica Pearce. Kristen has some natural charisma and was quickly paired up with Jefferson Stardust to play off his "Larger than life" persona.

Riley McManus- Riley began working the indy scene at the end of 2006. Riley stood out during these shows because of his superb technical skills which clearly over shadowed the usual high fliers of the show.

The Masked Patriot- This great young talent is none other than Bulldozer Brandon Smith in a mask. Smith is an excellent talent who could go very far in this company.

The Grand Avatar- The Grand Avatar has bounced around the independent scene for years now and always manages to book incredible matches regardless of where he is or the talent that he has. Strangely enough he has never been seen by any of his employees. In fact they aren't even sure if he's a man at all.

Who's Out:

D.C. Rayne- Rayne was one half of the popular tag team Natural Storm, and together with partner Eddie Howard they went on to win 2 Tag Team Titles with the company. At the end of 2007 Rip decided he had taught Rayne all he could teach him and D.C. went south to the new FCW promotion to test his skills in a new environment.

Des Davids- Des was a huge star in MAW and while never actually winning a title he was a main stay in the main event scene and that quickly brought him to the attention of other promotions. With the blessing of Rip Des headed to USPW for a chance at the big times.

Eddie Howard- The other half of Natural Storm. Eddie Howard knew he had a good thing going with teammate D.C. Rayne and followed him to FCW to continue their success.

Mainstream Hernandez- We all knew Mainstream was destined for greatness, and he proved everyone right by winning the Rip Chord Invitational for a second year in a row. He continued to build on this success by capturing the MAW Championship the very next month. With nothing else to prove Mainstream left the company then went on to sign with FCW to continue to grow his popularity.

Nicole Kiss- Nicole was the sole manager of MAW throughout most of 2006 and 2007. Near the end of 07 she decided to leave the safety of Stanley Hall and enter the land of extreme at Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling Company.

Rockin' Ryan Turner- Ryan was one half of the midcard tag team The Rock City Stars. The team had marginal success and in 2007 left for greener pastures. As of now they have yet to find them and are still unemployed.

Stan "The Man" Manna- See Above

Steven Parker- One of the top heels in 2007. Parker was the MAW Champion for 6 months before dropping it in February 2007 to Mainstream Hernandez. By mid 2007 Parker had done all he could do with the promotion and left quickly signing with PSW. The move proved to be a good one and by October he had captured the PSW National Title.

The shake up of MAW is sure to cause discussion throughout the region. The hiring of The Grand Avatar could mean that long time employee Mean Jean Cattley could be the next to leave the company. While many rumors will be sure to surface in the coming weeks on the way to The Rip Chord Invitational, one thing will be for sure, we are guaranteed to see a new winner this year.

I'll be reading - but you'd better not be thinking of letting Jean Cattley go. The man IS MAW, even more than Rip :p

That said, I'm looking forward to seeing how your vision of MAW differs from mine :D

Gene and Parker were my favorite C-Verse wrestlers (well except Cal Sanders, but he doesn't count :D )

That being said, I think his job is safe :p

Cal Sanders does too count. I love Sanders and he looks like Freddie Datsun's long lost brother so i like to team them up.

Anyway good luck on this I just posted in Trypio's MAW diary as well. MAW is extremely heel heavy especially in the uppercard. You're going to have to hire at least 4 faces to balance them out and two should end up in the uppercard. You have two heel tag teams and no face teams so you'll have to defiantely find some one to face the Canadian Blondes for the titles. I'll be keeping an eye out, good luck again.

I met with the Rip today to go over some of his expectations of me. Rip is a very humble man who wants nothing more than to help develop future wrestlers for the bigger company. He has no ambition what so ever to expand his company to make more money, a very noble act indeed. He does however have a bit of a soft spot for the men that he helps mentor, a flaw that was more than glaring during our meeting.

Rip explained to me that he had three basic goals he wanted me to reach and two restrictions. I sat there smoking my cigar allowing the old man to say his piece, after all this was his ship, I’m just steering it.

Goal 1: It is critical that at the end of two years we are no lower than where we are now in terms of importance, and that’s 31st in promotion rating.

Goal 2: It’s highly important that Antonio keeps a steady push under your term as head booker. Because of this I expect his momentum to be at least a B at the end of a year and a half.

Goal 3: It’s highly important that Casey Valentine keeps a steady push under your term as head booker. Because of this I expect his momentum to be at least a B at the end of a year and a half.

Goal 4: I prefer to have people think of my promotion as more of a technical based company. Because of this I would appreciate it if you didn’t hire anyone who is considered a spot monkey.

Goal 5: Here in MAW we pride ourselves in putting on quality matches. This means having the ability to have a match decent in length. Therefore I don’t want to see you resign or hire anyone with less than a D- in Stamina.

At this point in the meeting Rip took a long look at me, I assume to see if I was still awake, I took another long drag from my cigar and gave Rip a nod to assure him I was listening. He then asked if I had any questions I quickly shook my head no and we set up to meet the rest of the creative staff.

As we walked into what Rip referred to as “The War Room” there were already three other people sitting down. Rip entered the room behind me and took his seat at the head of he table, then asked me to take the seat next to him. At this point all eyes were on me and it was one of the few times in my life so many people had a good view of my face at one time.

Rip took this time to make introductions. On the opposite side of Rip was the executive of the company, and Rip’s son, Jay Chord. It was no secret that Jay would be entering the wrestling world in just a few months not to mention taking over the every day operations once his father decided to step aside. He was perhaps once of the most powerful 17 year old men in the wrestling business.

Next to Jay was former head booker and MAW legend, Mean Jean Cattley. I haven’t had the chance to speak to Jean yet, but the rumor was he wanted to step away from the booking scene for awhile to put more of a focus on his in ring abilities.

That brought me to the man sitting to my right, someone who I had no idea played any part in backstage activity, Marv Ernest. Marv had a good business mind, and they say it was his idea to have Mainstream win the Invitational for a second year in a row.

Rip: “I would like to take this time to discuss the state of MAW. As all of you know Jean has decided to step away from the head booking position to focus more on his in ring career. The man to my right is going to take over those responsibilities, his name is The Grand Avatar. Now the first order of business is who we believe to be the franchise players for the company. That is to say who do we believe we can lean on to help make this company grow."

Jay: “Well it’s obvious Erik Strong is our number one baby face and I would have to say our number one vet is Jean.”

Marv: “While I agree Jean is a great heel, I think Citizen X may be the on that same level. He has an excellent gimmick and perhaps the primary heel in the company.”

Rip: “Very well, So Erik, Jean and Citizen X. We need to find a way to get them maximum exposure. Now what can you tell me about who will be the backbone of this company in the next 5 years?”

Jean: “Jefferson Stardust looks very promising. He’s still green, but he already has above average basics and is fairly consistent in the ring. A couple years with the more established guys and he’ll be a general for you.”

I could tell that Rip valued Jean’s opinion over everyone else’s in the room. And I made a mental note to try to quickly befriend him.

Jay: “I think Huey Cannonball may be something big in a few years.”

Rip: “The Canadian Blondes groupie?”

Jay: “He needs a better gimmick, but the fundamentals are there.”

Rip: “Alright that’s all for today. We will meet back here in three days to go over The Rip Chord Invitational and whom we should bring in to participate in it. Are there any other questions?”

I knew what was on everyone’s mind it was just a matter of who was going to ask it? After a little rattling it was Marv who spoke up.

Marv: “Um… what happened to your face?”

Tuesday Week 1 January 2008

I had called an emergency meeting "of the minds" today and everyone seemed to be on edge. As the five of us gathered in the tiny war room it was immediately obvious that there was already a sense of hostility towards me. Not that I could blame them, after all here I was the new guy coming into MAW and shaking it up. Then to top it all of I call a meeting that had even the boss wondering what I had thought of.

Rip: "Alright Mr. Avatar you called us all here. Mind informing us what was so urgent it couldn't wait until Thursday?"

Avatar: "After the meeting yesterday Jay pulled me off to the side and informed me it was my job to figure out how to make this company grow. He said he was tired of being a bottom feeder and wanted me to do something about it."

Jay's face turned a bright shade of crimson and I soon realized that was told to me in confidence. Oh well, to late to worry about spilled milk now.

Rip: "First of all Mr. Avatar we are far from bottom feeders! Jay is still just a kid and he is blinded by his own ambition. There is nothing wrong with not wanting to expand to fast, that's what's wrong with wrestling today."

Jay: "You're stuck in the 70's old man! This company is bleeding money, and instead of wanting to do something about it, you send our best talent packing because they have grown past MAW! Have you ever thought of using them to grow MAW though?"

Avatar: "Enough! I don't care about this silly family drama, I was brought here to do a job and that's exactly what I'm going to do. Now I have a plan to help make MAW reach new heights, but everyone needs to be on board."

Rip was breathing hard and giving his son a stern look, but he regained his composer and nodded for me to continue.

Avatar: "Good, now we all know The Rip Chord Invitational is perhaps the premier event in this company. It started with just 8 participants then last year you expanded it it 16."

Rip: "Yeah and it really set us back financial last year too."

Avatar: "Perhaps, but it also did wonders for your popularity did it not?"

Rip: "Sure but..."

Avatar: "This year we make it even bigger!"

Everyone: "WHAT!"

Avatar: "We run a massive 32 man tournament spread out through out the course of the month with the semi finals and finals all happening on the actual Invitational show."

Rip: "That's not even possible, for starters we don't have the roster."

Avatar: "I have an answer for that as well. I've been going over some of the promotion pacts we've signed, and well it's time to use them."

This time it was Jean's turn to speak. I really needed him on board with me, because I knew how much power he had in these meetings.

Jean: "If we use every wrestler on our roster that only brings us to 16 wrestlers, are you suggesting we go outside our promotion for the other half of the roster?"

Avatar: "Yes I am, but think about all the new fans we will gain in the process. We bring in fans from every promotion who has wrestlers in the tournament. Suddenly they are exposed to our style of wrestling, and let's face it our style is one of the best in the world. The problem is we don't have the exposure some of these other companies do."

Jean: "Well that's all well and good Avatar, but only real die hard fans are going to travel out of their region to watch two or three of their favorite wrestlers."

Avatar: "Another good point, that's why we travel to them. Think about it, having two shows a week in Stanley Hall is really going to be to much for our fans anyway. So instead once a week we travel to one of our neighbor regions, and we expand our product and of course our fan base."

Rip: "That's not even possible, people would only catch bits and pieces of the tournament with all the traveling it would be chaos."

Avatar: "Not if we broadcast on the internet. The cost would be next to nothing, plus we could get new fans from all over the world."

Rip: "The internet? You expect me to pay millions of dollars to have some computer whiz from some ivy league school come in and put us on the internet?"

Avatar: "Um...no. If you want I could set it up. It's relatively easy, and again we would be broadcast all over the world."

There was a silence in the room that was almost scary as Rip pondered my suggestion, Jean locked eyes with me, but no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get a good read on him.

Rip: "I don't like the way this sounds. We stand to lose to much money, but I'm willing to leave it up for a vote. All in favor of running two shows a week in various regions please raise your hand."

My hand and Jay's hand both shot up and for a full minute it seemed as if my idea would be shot down then...

Jean: Ah, what the hell, why not!"

Jean was in, the vote was passed, and MAW Vs. The World was underway.

After the show was over I went back to the locker room to congratulate everyone on a job well done. As I opened the door I saw everyone had made a bit of a circle and everyone was shouting. As I pushed my way to the middle of the circle I saw Oscar Golden and Jay Fair standing nose to nose shouting at one another. It was clear this was going to come to blows at any second, so I quickly made my presents felt by shoving both men into the lockers.

Avatar: “What the hell is going on here!”

Oscar: “This piece of sh** is going around telling everyone me and Flash are more than just friends.”

Avatar: “What?”

Oscar: “Faggots ok, he said we were faggots.”

My eyes turned red and I released Oscar looking deep into the soul of my referee. Jay was giggling like a school girl at what Oscar said and I knew it was obviously true. My first instinct was to bring Jay back to my office and deal with this behind closed doors. Then I decided that I should do it in front of the other workers, make an example out of Jay.

Avatar: “Is something funny?”

Jay: “Come on man, anyone who spends as much time together as them are obviously g…”

I punched Jay hard in the stomach before he could get the word out. He doubled over gasping for air and I felt everyone in the locker room area focus on me.

Avatar: “Let me make something very very clear to you. I do not tolerate disruptions in my locker room. Do you understand?”

Jay was slowly standing back up and still had trouble catching his breath so he nodded.

Avatar: “Good, perhaps you haven’t realized it yet, but there are more than enough referees in the world. I could replace you with the snap of a finger and not think twice about it. So what you’re going to do is apologize to Oscar. And if I ever find out something like this happens again. I will personal see to it that every man in this locker room has his way with you, then we will see who the faggot it.”

I’m pretty sure I got my point across, because the fear I saw in his eyes was like something I’d never seen before. He quickly made his way over to Oscar and offered a very sincere apology. Oscar accepted and I left the locker room a very feared man.

The Masked Patriot Vs. Plague (CZCW)

Brave man, putting your champ in a tourny like this - don't think I noticed that before. I'm still not used to Strong being MAW champion :D As for the rest, most seem obvious picks to me. But Golden/Force I picked simply because I don't mark for Force the way most folks around here do :o

O'Farraday/Machine could go either way - but Machien is the kind of guy O'Farraday needs to beat to solidify himself as MAW's monster.

See I would agree with you on the Erik being in the tournament. The problem is I made it such a huge tournament (And Im starting to kick myself for it lol) that the only way I could make it work was to use every single person I had on my roster. So it's literally MAW Vs. the world!

The first round was over and the damage that was done had been severe. Rip had called a meeting to discuss how things were shaping up and I suspected a lot of questions to come my way. I was the last person walking into the War Room, something I had planned to do on purpose. Even though I have nothing but respect for every man in that room, this tournament has become my baby, and they all needed to know, Rip included, that I was the man calling the shots.

Rip: “How nice of you to join us Mr. Avatar.”

Avatar: “I have shows to book and arenas to rent, I apologize if my schedule has been a little hectic.”

Rip: “Are you aware Mr. Avatar that the year has only just begun and we are already over 22,000 dollars poorer than what we started?”

Avatar: “Yes sir I’m aware. I’m also aware that we have roughly one and half percent more fans than we started with in this region alone. And other polls suggest we have gained over a half percent in those areas. There is a method to my madness I assure you.”

Rip: “There better be, because with God as my witness if we ever dip into the red I will see to it that you never book another wrestling show in your life do you understand that?”

Avatar: “Our roster is to heel heavy, we need to hire some faces who can help balance it out.”

Rip: “Hire…what? Are you even listening to me? We don’t need to spend anymore cash, I suggest you turn a couple of the heels to balance out the roster.”

Avatar: “Fine…Jean you’re going to start fighting as a face, congratulations.”

Jean: “What? I can work as a face it will kill my momentum. Rip just let the guy hire some new talent.”

Rip: “Unbelievable! Fine you get 3 new contracts. You better know what the hell you’re doing! We will meet back here at the end of the second round. I need a drink.”

Rip stormed out of the room and all eyes were on me. I had done it, it hadn’t been easy, but I just gained control of every person in this room. Now the only question was can I keep them in my corner.

After the show it was brought to my attention that there was another incident backstage involving Findlay O’Farraday and none other than Jay Fair. Apparently Jay felt like the chair shot delivered by O’Farraday had a bit more force behind it than he liked and said something to him backstage. This led to another near brawl and Jay standing on the red carpet in my office.

I was sitting behind my desk smoking one of my best Cuban Cigars when Jay walked in the office.

Jay: "You wanted to see me sir?"

Me: "Mind telling me what the hell you were thinking starting anouther fight in no more than a week since the last one?"

Jay: "This one wasn't my fault, he nearly gave me a concussion!"

Me: "I wish he would have maybe then he would've knocked some sense into you. Did I not make it perfectly clear that you weren't going to get a second chance?"

Jay: "You can't fire me. We have a show in two days there's no way you can find a replacement in that time."

Me: "So you've gone from from defensive to c0cky...impressive."

Through the glass from the window I could see Jay looking at me with a smug look on his face, as if he had me right where he wanted me. Silly official, did he not know who I was?

Disgusted I took one last puff from my Cuban then tossed it behind me, just missing Jay's arm.

Jay: "What the hell?"

Me: "You have ten minutes to gather your belongings and get the hell out of my building, otherwise I'm telling security you threatened to blow this place up.

Jay: "You're bluffing."

Me: "9 minutes 30 seconds."

Jay: "Who the hell is going to ref the Quarter Finals?"

Me: "I happen to have a few shows under my belt."

Jay: "You a ref, you've got to be kidding me. You'll scare people off with that burnt up face of yours."

Me: "6 minutes."

Jay: "Wh...it's only been 1!"

Me: "I never was good at counting...5"

Jay immediately jumped from the seat and stormed out the office, not even bothering to shut the door behind him. Inconsiderate bastard. Who was I kidding I'd never refereed a match before in my life, but I couldn't just let him skate by. After all I had a reputation to uphold.

After thinking about the situation for another minute or two I decided to pick up the phone. Sure I was going to try and get a new referee in here ASAP, but first I had to inform security there was a bomb threat.

It was the day before the quarter finals and we still didn’t have a ref. Rip had cancelled the meeting for the week and the rumor was I had drove him back to the bottle. I guess I couldn’t blame him, we had lost roughly 30 grand so far since this tournament began and unfortunately money was all Rip saw. He didn’t realize how big we were growing in such a short amount of time. We had already jumped ahead of BSC and FCW in terms of importance and we were now in the eighth position. I’m not sure how a bunch of strippers were considered more important than our legit business, but that was neither here nor there. If everything went according to plan I was expecting us to gain at least one if not two more positions on the list before the end of the month.

Instead of the meeting with Rip myself and Jean decided to go get a drink. Apparently he heard about the little “happening” with myself and Jay and wanted some details, who was I to leave him waiting?

Jean: “So you seriously told security he planted a bomb?”

Me: “Of course not, I told security he said he planted a bomb. Two very different things.”

(Jean laughed so hard beer shot from his nose. We were working on our third pitcher, and neither of us had any plans on stopping.)

Jean: “So what happened next?”

Me: “Not a lot. Security went down and destroyed all his things. He was babbling about how he was going to sue and what not. He was harassed for a few hours then released after the place was cleared.”

Jean: “You’re a real character Avatar you know that? Aren’t you worried about Rip firing you?”

Me: “Of course not. If he were to fire me I would be owed roughly 25,000 dollars. And after this month it would nearly wipe MAW off the map, something we both know he won’t risk doing.”

Jean: “So this whole thing was just a plot, for job security?”

Me: “Of course not. We are gaining popularity in droves. We have more fans now than ever before, and we are expanding into other areas. In a year we are going to be in a very good place financially. I just need the time to get us there.”

Jean: “You’re a bizarre man, but a smart one. So I guess only one question remains.”

Me: “What’s that?”

Jean: “Your face, what happened? You were a mask most the times and on the few occasions someone sees your face it’s covered in burns.”

(I took a long draw from my Cuban. Followed by a quick chug of beer. I knew this was coming.)

Me: “When I was a kid 12 there was…an accident. Huge fire it burnt my face.”

Jean: “That’s a bit vague isn’t it?”

Me: “Yeah, but for now it will have to do.”

(We finished the pitcher then ordered another 2. It was going to be one hell of a night.)

Quarter Final Match:
Antonio Vs. Brimstone (PSW)

Brimstone has made it into the Quarter Finals by shocking his opponents with quick reflexes and solid basic skills. Antonio is the better wrestler of the two and carried the match though out. I held the ref duties since I had yet to acquire a referee with any talent, and the fans let me know how bad I was.

Antonio defeated Brimstone in 5:39 by pinfall with an Italian DDT.

Quarter Finals Match:
Insane Machine (CZCW) Vs. Plague (CZCW)

The fans still hate me for refereeing the match, but I’ll take it over the alternative. These two were pit together because of the chemistry they showed during their CZCW matches, and they didn’t disappoint here. The high risk moves as compared to the more technical wrestling was something our fans are not used to, but they seemed to enjoy it.

Plague defeated Insane Machine in 14:31 by pinfall with a New Jersey Turnpike.

The MAW champ against the people’s champ. A pretty good match here, with Strong showing that he has what it takes to lead this company and take charge of a match. He more or less carried this one, with Force using his charisma to keep the fans in it.

Erik Strong defeated Jim Force in 7:54 by pinfall with a Strong Sault.
Rating: E+

Mean Jean Cattley Vs. Des Davids

A blast from the past in this one with the fans clearly on the side of Davids. As it turns out Des Davids is a prick and a pain in the ass to work with when booking a match. Jean could have told me this before allowing him in the tournament, but I guess it’s my mistake. The match itself was a great one, the ending just wasn’t what I wanted at all.

Des Davids defeated Mean Jean Cattley in 14:36 by pinfall with a Quarterback Sack.

Notes: Again Des Davids played the creative control card, and I’m left guessing on how the tournament is actually going to play out. Findlay O’Farraday Vs. Dazzling Dave Diamond

Diamond had another show left on his contract with us, and we couldn’t think of a better opponent. This was obviously an all out brawl that the fans really seemed to get into. Semi-Final Match:
Antonio Vs. Plague (CZCW)

Flyer against Technician. This was a great match that kept the fans on the edge of their seats. Plague slipped out of an Italian DDT early and nailed Antonio with a New Jersey Turnpike. Amazingly however Antonio was able to kick out after only a 2 count and even mounted a comeback. However a second failed attempt for an Italian DDT proved fatal. And as Plague climbed the ropes and nailed a second New Jersey Turnpike, it was all over.

Plague defeated Antonio in 15:34 by pinfall with a New Jersey Turnpike.
Rating: D-

Semi-Final Match:
Erik Strong Vs. Des Davids (USPW)

The match started with these two men shaking hands and sizing each other up. Davids seemed taken back by the enhanced ability that wasn’t present when Davids was a part of the company. Davids battled back but Strong seemed to have an answer for everything Davids threw at him. Davids would eventually go on the offensive again and toss Strong into the corner. He then set up for a quarterback sack but Strong moved at the last second and Davids hit the corner post hard. Strong took advantage of this quickly, and scored the huge win.

Erik Strong defeated Des Davids in 12:36 by pinfall with a Strong Sault.
Rating: D-

A quick video is shown displaying the path that Strong and Plague took to get to the finals.
Rating: E

MAW Rip Chord Invitational Finals:
Erik Strong Vs. Plague (CZCW)

These two men wasted no time and the action started the second the bell sounded. Both men put everything on the line here, and pulled no punches. Strong tried a Strong Sault but missed Plague who was playing possum. This led to a great showing of offense for Plague, but he still couldn’t put Strong down. Then the champ got his second wind and began laying into Plague. With Plague out of it Strong went back up top, but was stopped dead in his tracks when Antonio came running down to the ring with a chair. Confused Strong left the top ropes to see what was going on, and to try and get Antonio away from ringside. However, Antonio threw the chair at Strong who instinctively caught it. What he didn’t anticipate was Plague who had made it back to his feet, and the second Strong caught the chair Plague nailed him with a roundhouse kick that knocked him out cold.

Plague defeated Erik Strong in 17:53 by pinfall with a New Jersey Turnpike after a distraction from Antonio. Plague wins the Rip Chord Invitational Challenge title.
Rating: D

After the match Rip reluctantly made his way down to the ring with the cup in hand.

Rip: “It’s with a heavy heart, that I present this trophy to a man, who isn’t even a member of the MAW family.”

(It was then that Antonio made his way back down the aisle.)

Antonio: “Actually that’s not entirely true.”

Rip: “What? Which part?”

Antonio: “It seems that your son Jay is a bit more ambitious than you old man. You see he sent me to negotiate with Plague just before this event. I guess he saw something in him that you didn’t.”

Rip: “That’s not possible, Jay doesn’t have control of this company, I do!”

Antonio: “Well, that’s not entirely true either. It seems you left him 100 percent of the company in a trust fund. A fund that he was able to access early.”

Rip: “Wait you mean…”

Antonio: “I mean you’re out of a job old man. Starting immediately the greatest Italian wrestler of all time is the new Commissioner of MAW.”

Rip: “This isn’t over Antonio, not by a long shot. I’m going to get the best lawyers, and when I do I’m going to make sure you never step foot inside a ring again.”

(Rip pushes his way past Antonio and the fans are left in a state of shock.)

The month was finally over. There had been some grumbling backstage about how the show went down, but overall I would have to say it was a complete success. The boys in back were exhausted, this had been one of the hardest month’s of their lives. They deserved some time off and that was exactly what I planned on giving them. All he had booked for the month was Evolution, and for now that’s all we need. Come March I plan on talking to Rip and the rest of the committee about going to a weekly show. Rip of course would be firmly against it, but if I could get the other three on board he would be sure to follow. The February meeting took place precisely at 8 am and I made it a point to bring the doughnuts. I knew how this meeting was going to play out, it was a gift I had I suppose.

Rip: “Let’s start from the top shall we. Jay give me the break down on finances.”

(Jay looked at me and I cringed. I knew it was going to sound a lot worse than it was, but how could I prove that to Rip.)

Jay: “We started the month out with an even 100,000 dollars. Our sponsors spotted us 16,000 and we made roughly 4,000 off ticket sells.”

Rip: “Sounds about right, and the expenses?”

Jay: “Show costs ran us just over 6,000 a difference of 2,000 dollars when compared to ticket sales. 50,000 was spent on worker expenses, a large sum of that coming from the talent trades we had in place.”

Rip: “56,000 in expenses and only 20,000 in income, do you see a problem with that Mr. Avatar?”

(I thought about this question…ah who am I kidding, I never think before answering.)

Me: “No not at all actually.”

Rip: “Perhaps you went to public schools Mr. Avatar but they idea of a business is to make money.”

Me: “Indeed it is, I’m glad to see we are on the same page.”

Rip: “You know I’m getting sick of your crappy attitude. And I have half a mind to…”

(Before letting him finish that sentence I tossed an internet report on the table.)

Rip: “What the hell is this?”

Me: “This is a report from TEW.Com the most trusted wrestling site on the internet. In the report you will find that they refer to MAW as one of the fastest growing companies in the world. And we have gone from the 10th most important in the US to the 5th. Jumping ahead of some regional companies such as CZCW and PSW.”

Rip: “Well that’s a pretty impressive report Mr. Avatar, but I have a similar report saying we came in third, or last, place in the regional battle with the same two companies care to spin that?”

Me: “Minor details…Jay, tell you’re father about the talent we decided to sign.”

(Rip was losing his patience with me, and I wasn’t in the position to battle him…yet.)

Jay: “We have successfully come to terms with Black Eagle (obviously), Ace Youngblood, and Frankie Perez.”

Rip: “Wait, let me get this straight. We hired two people from the CZCW roster…why?”

Me: “We are going to use it in a storyline, in which I will reveal in detail as soon as this damn camera gets out of the room.”

(That’s right…I’m talking about you!)

We start the day out with bright green, red and blue flashing lights. Smoke fills the bottom of the stage and out of the lights step…Jefferson Stardust. He of course is met with a ring of boos but seems to think he is the best wrestler in the world. As he plays to the crowd out steps his beautiful manager Kristen Pearce.
Rating: F+

Jefferson Stardust W/ Kristen Pearce Vs. Max Mayhem

A slow start and a rough crowd. Stardust played a perfect role. The end came when Pearce jumped up on the apron and offered Mayhem “anything he wanted” of course Max couldn’t pass this offer up. Of course he would never get a chance to take her up on it as Stardust got back on his feet and hit him with a perfectly executed fishermen’s suplex.

Jefferson Stardust defeated Max Mayhem in 5:39 by pinfall after Kristen Pearce interfered.
Rating: F+

Ace Youngblood Vs. Findlay O’Farraday

A complete squash here. While I expect Ace to be a major player later in the year, right now he’s in the way of a massive heel monster in the making.

Findlay O'Farraday defeated Ace Youngblood in 8:15 by pinfall.
Rating: E

Cameron Vessey Vs. The Masked Patriot

A much better match, especially compared to the last two. Vessey has the sort of c0ckiness that is perfect for a heel. Patriot is still green, but is putting on great matches and just waiting for his time.

The Masked Patriot defeated Cameron Vessey in 9:57 by pinfall with a Backdrop Driver.
Rating: D-

MAW Championship Match:
Erik Strong © Vs. Plague

Even though it’s a rematch from last month the fans didn’t seem to care at all, or perhaps that’s why the attendance is so low. Plague came out flying like we knew he would, and Strong had no problem showing off his flying skills as well. The fans couldn’t get enough of these two great athletes and I was sad to see the match end. But of course all great things do end, and this one ended with Strong keeping the strap.

Erik Strong defeated Plague in 17:37 by pinfall with a Strong Sault. Erik Strong wins the Rip Chord Invitational Challenge title.
Rating: C-

After the match Antonio rushed to the ring from the back and began to hammer away at Erik Strong. Plague seemed to think this was a pretty good idea and helped Antonio in the beat down. Then from out of nowhere a new wrestler appeared and Frankie Perez cleared the ring of both Antonio and Plague much to the enjoyment of the crowd.
Rating: F+

Final Rating: D-
Notes: The main event was a dream come true and I would love to see it again. The Vessey Patriot match would’ve been better but they seemed to have chemistry problems. All in all a great show and soon it will all come together…hopefully.

Up Next in MAW...Will Rip allow me to run 2 shows a month? And we deal with yet more backstage issues...are you kidding me?

After the show I was made aware of yet another issue backstage. Apparently Plague was constantly staring at Duke Hazzard. This of course made Duke feel very uncomfortable and felt it was due to his “southern accent.” I was getting pretty tired of these problems backstage and especially didn’t want to see new talent already getting involved in it. I immediately called for Plague to meet me in my office.

Me: “Do you know why I called you here?”

Plague: “…”

Me: “Fair enough. It has come to my attention that you are giving Duke some pretty nasty looks care to explain?”

Plague: “…”

Me: “I’m sorry…do you speak English?”

Plague: “…”

(This guy made me laugh. How was I suppose to get a read on a guy that didn’t talk, blink, or offer any body language what so ever.)

Me: “Very well, I’m going to read you something. It’s called the Riot Act and it basically says that if your poor performance continues you will be released.”

Plague: “…”

(I began to toss peanuts at the face of Plague to see if I could get some type of reaction. Nothing. I even hit him in the eye a few times and still he didn’t even blink. So not knowing what else to do I read the riot act…all 125 pages of it. When I finished Plague still hadn’t moved, hadn’t blinked, or said a word. Feeling I had done all I could do I told him to leave the office. I then called Duke and told him he may want to start locking his door at night.)

Riley McManus Vs. Curtis Jenkins

A don’t have a lot in mind for either of these guys at the moment. Riley is still green but has lots of potential. Jenkins…well he has a job, so that’s a start.

Riley McManus defeated Curtis Jenkins in 7:50 by pinfall.
Rating: E-

After the match Antonio hit the ring. He said that due to the blatant disrespect Frankie Perez showed last month he had no choice but to punish him by putting him in a match with the winner of the main event tonight.
Rating: E-

Casey Valentine Vs. American Bandit

A pretty decent match in this one. Valentine got the revenge for his team after Vessey lost last month to The Masked Patriot.

Casey Valentine defeated American Bandit in 7:53 by pinfall.
Rating: E+

Ricky Douglas Vs. Max Mayhem

Another “squash” type match in the sense that Mayhem is nothing but a jobber in my eyes. That’s not to say he didn’t get his fair share of offense he did, just not enough to win.

Ricky Douglas defeated Max Mayhem in 8:28 by submission with a Figure Four Leglock.
Rating: E

Citizen X hit the ring next and said that he was sick of corporate America and the shenanigans backstage. It’s obvious that MAW is nothing more than a virus and the only way to bring it down is by starting at the top. Mean Jean Cattley has been a part of this company since day one and he is at fault for everything that is wrong.
Rating: E+

Citizen X Vs. Mean Jean Cattley

A great back and forth match. Cattley got the early advantage but X battled back after a low blow. The fans had trouble deciding who to cheer and who to boo and I’m sure that hurt the match in the long run.

Mean Jean Cattley defeated Citizen X in 12:51 by pinfall with a Mood Swing.
Rating: D

Final Rating: D-
Notes: A solid mid month show that should have helped our popularity as well as helped developed my character more.

Up Next in MAW: Yes you guess it more backstage troubles. No wonder I was hired for this job.

I feel left out, you have had more backstage trouble than you know what to do with and I am six months in and haven't had a single problem with my MAW roster. Is it too much to ask that you share with me. ;)

Yeah it seems crazy because it says it's a pretty positive place, but yet it seems every event something happens.

After the show I got word that once again there was an altercation backstage. This was becoming a continuous routine and I decided I needed to put an end to this quickly. I hoped it wasn’t Plague, after all how would I explain to the crowd that not only had he been the focus of the company for the past couple months but he was also the Invitational winner, which I knew a lot of people were unhappy about, and now he was gone from the company. Lucky for me it wasn’t Plague, no when I got into the locker room I saw Jean, O’Farraday, and Frankie Perez holding back a very angry Citizen X. And on the other side was an equally angry Marv Ernest being held back by Kristen Pierce???

Me: “Now what?”

Marv was the first one to talk, perhaps he wasn’t as angry as I first expected.

Marv: “This punk tried to swing on me! He’s lucky I don’t use my black belt in Karate and whip his punk ass.”

(It’s very hard to stay professional when you see a man who’s maybe 130 and talks for a living try and talk smack to a man twice his size who beats people up for a living. I looked over at X who was still trying to fight through the parade of people holding him back.)

Me: “Is that true?”

X: “You bet your ass it is!”

Me: “Alright, why?”

X: “That son of a Bi*** was back here running his mouth that I missed a bunch of different spots during my match and he was going to recommend to Rip that I be released.”

Me: “Alright, well first of all I can guarantee you that no one is being cut without my approval. I can also guarantee you that Marv here has no pull backstage at all what so ever, and if I see fit he could never attend another creative meeting again.”

(This seemed to really scare Marv as he was quick to apologize to me X and the rest of the roster. He went on to say that X was a complete professional in the ring and he had never seen X miss a spot in his entire career. This seemed to calm X down a lot and the guys were able to release him without him charging at Marv.)

Me: “Good not that’s settled here’s what’s going to happen. Marv if this happens again I’m going to find someone else who can announce a wrestling match on you tube I can assure you you’re not the only one.”

(Marv nodded at me then began to walk out of the locker room. Apparently he thought this meeting was over…it wasn’t)

Me: “X because you were such a professional in this whole thing and because I’m sick of having to come out here after every show here’s what you get. 30 seconds, no face shots.”

(Everyone in the locker room knew what I was referring to. They all gasped and Citizen X got the biggest smile on his face I’d ever seen. Of course poor Marv was clueless and the first attack was a firm kidney shot that was probably going to make him piss blood for a week. All things considered X went pretty easy on him I thought, but after only 30 seconds I was pretty convinced Marv wouldn’t be causing anymore problems any time soon.

I see you decided to share. I finally had Dewey Libertine causing problems with Marv. After your last note, I'm beginning to wonder if Marv had more to do with it than they are telling me.

Riley McManus Vs. Ricky Douglas

I accidentally booked this show for 2 hours instead of one, so be prepared for a lot of filler matches. A lack of chemistry didn’t help my cause in this match as Riley surprised the veteran Douglas with a huge victory.

Riley McManus defeated Ricky Douglas in 7:53 by pinfall.
Rating: E

Curtis Jenkins Vs. Casey Valentine

We all know my feeling towards Jenkins. Who knows maybe while reading some of these other diaries I’ll get some type of clue on how to use him but as for now he does the job for Valentine.

Casey Valentine defeated Curtis Jenkins in 7:40 by pinfall.
Rating: E+

The Masked Patriot Vs. Jefferson Stardust

Stardust came to the ring looking larger than life and took the Patriot by complete surprise. Patriot fought back with some arm bars and other things to slow Stardust down. However, late in the match it looked like Patriot was going to take the win, but as he set up Stardust Kristen Pearce jumped on the apron and seduced Patriot just long enough for Stardust to regain his composure and scored the victory.

Jefferson Stardust defeated The Masked Patriot in 7:36 by pinfall.
Rating: D

After the match we flash backstage where Antonio is having a discussion with Jean Cattley. He tells Jean that he respects everything he has done with MAW and the two of them are not that much different. For instance they both want to see Erik Strong crash and burn and if Jean wins tonight Antonio will book him for the title so they can get rid of Strong once and for all.
Rating: E

Findlay O’Farraday Vs. Huey Cannonball

Not much of a match here. O’Farraday continued his dominating ways, completely dismantling Huey. The match was a bit longer than he liked, I blame it on my stupidity, as does he.

Findlay O'Farraday defeated Huey Cannonball in 8:09 by pinfall.
Rating: E-

After the match O’Farraday tossed Cannonball over the top rope like a rag doll then grabbed a mic. Ernest Forthdyke-Hume quickly snatched it from him before he could bore the crowd. Hume then went on to say that no one in all of MAW can handle such a huge monster like O’Farraday, and to prove that he will place his client in a handicap match next month to prove just how dominate he really is.
Rating: E+

Max Mayhem Vs. Plague

Max came out firing on Plague. I don’t think he hit a single shot, but he tried dang it. Plague of course was complete gold and really carried the match looking completely dominate in the process.

Plague defeated Max Mayhem in 12:44 by pinfall with a New Jersey Turnpike.
Rating: D-

Citizen X Vs. American Bandit

X could have won this match very early on but instead decided to toy with the Bandit. He then thought it would be a good idea to try and “unmask” Bandit and then seemed to ignite some type of fire under the younger who immediately began to mount a comeback. He had X on the ropes for quite some time. In the end he managed to keep his mask on, but lost the match.

Citizen X defeated American Bandit in 13:07 by pinfall with a Flaming Anarchy.
Rating: E

Antonio Vs. Ace Youngblood

Antonio decided to give himself a match tonight and looked pretty good in the process. Ace came out looking to pick up his first win in MAW but Antonio had an agenda of his own.

Antonio defeated Ace Youngblood in 13:12 by pinfall with an Italian DDT.
Rating: E

Mean Jean Vs. Frankie Perez

Perez came into MAW chasing after his nemesis Plague. In doing so he ended up getting caught up in this whole big thing with Antonio and Erik Strong and is now fighting for his life against Mean Jean. Perez looked great as usual, but in the end couldn’t pick up the win.

Mean Jean Cattley defeated Frankie Perez in 17:59 by pinfall with a Mood Swing.
Rating: C-

Final Rating: D
Notes: So it seems I have accidentally began to bury all of my faces. Not to worry of course I have a plan that will hopefully work its way out. This was perhaps the best show of the year and depending on how the finances look we may just continue to run two shows a month.

We had another creative meeting on the first of April. This was suppose to be the norm, but for some reason Rip canceled it last month for unexplained reasons. It was later rumored that he had fallen ill and didn’t want to be seen in public. As he made his way into the board room today it was clear something was wrong with him. He looked sick and pale. I wasn’t sure but it seemed to me he had lost about 20 pounds since the last time I saw him.

Rip: “Gentlemen thanks for showing up. I’d like to apologize for last month, it seems I’ve had a a bad case of the flu lately I can’t seem to shake. Just to recap Jay tells me that we have begun running two shows a month. Anyone want to tell me why?”

Jay: “It’s easy father. We still made over 3,000 dollars for the month and our popularity is beginning to sky rocket.”

Rip: “What is your obsession with raising so quickly Jay?”

(Jay’s face began to get red and he began to raise his voice.)

Jay: “We have a hot product right now Dad, why would you not want to exploit that so we can increase in size and capital?”

Rip: “It’s not always about size damn it! How many times do I have to tell you, it’s about staying small so these guys have a place to hone their skills. You’re just as bad as that damn Eisen."

Jay: “You need to get with the times dad. Soon this company will be mine, and this is the way it’s going to have to be.”

(This went on for more than several minutes. It was clear Rip didn’t share the same vision as his son. The big question on everyone’s mind was how sick was Rip?)

Max Mayhem Vs. Ricky Douglas

Not much to report here. It was a matter of who I hated the least. They both got decent amounts of offense in, but I just have nothing for them yet.

Ricky Douglas defeated Max Mayhem in 7:49 by submission with a Figure Four Leglock.
Rating: E

The American Embassy Vs. C-V-2

These four men split the one on one encounters and are now trying to settle things where they shine the most. This was a decent back and forth match the ended with Vessey busting The American Bandit open with a chair.

American Embassy defeated C-V-2 in 10:03 when Cameron Vessey was disqualified while fighting The Masked Patriot.
Rating: E

The brawl continued with The Masked Patriot coming to the aid of his team mate only to get blasted with the same chair.
Rating: F-

Findlay O’Farraday Vs. Ace Youngblood

Ace finally scored a win in MAW a few weeks ago and now has the luxury of taking on O’Farraday. O’Farraday is fresh off his handicap victory and comes into this match with all the confidence in the world.

Findlay O'Farraday defeated Ace Youngblood in 5:48 by pinfall.
Rating: E

Plague and Mean Jean Cattley Vs. Erik Strong and Frankie Perez

Four of the most over men we have in MAW right now and there is no love lose. Perez and Jean started the match out but the fans were itching to see Jean and Strong. They finally got their wish at the 13:00 mark and Erik Strong came in off a red hot tag laying the boots to Jean and Plague.

Erik Strong and Frankie Perez defeated Plague and Mean Jean Cattley in 17:32 when Erik Strong defeated Mean Jean Cattley by pinfall with a Strong Sault.
Rating: D+

After the match Erik Strong and Frankie Perez celebrated in the ring until Commissioner Antonio came out and showed a replay of how Jean’s foot was just under the ropes and therefore the win doesn’t count. Strong is labeled a “cheater” and will be forced to defend his title next month as a result.
Rating: E-

Final Rating: D-
Notes: Not the best show in the world, but the main event really bailed us out. Antonio is really starting to flex his power, and Erik Strong is proving to be unbeatable.
