Florida Atlantic University- Florida Atlantic University football began play in 2001 and has had only one head coach, Howard Schnellenberger. That was until after their third loss of the 2009 season. Schnellenberger was let go do to a lack luster start of the season.
After watching Schnellenberger build a football team FAU was asked to be in the Sunbelt conference. The school decided that they didn't want to lose their spot in the Sunbelt and decided to make sure they had a new head coach lined up incase Schnellenberger dropped the ball.

Michael Lewis is the former head coach of the Lansingburgh Knights in Lansingburgh, NY. He lead the high school team to the state championship game in both 2007 and 2008. In 2008 they won the New York State Championship game in what is to be considered one of the greatest high school football games in the northeast. After leading the Knights in 2008 he made it known he was looking for a team to coach at the college level. After sitting out for a few weeks he was called in mid August of 2008 and asked to be on "call" by the board of directors at FAU. He was told that if Schnellenberger was to drop the ball he could be called in by week 8. Well he was called in after the second loss of the season and told his time was about to start and that he should be ready to move to Boca Raton in the coming days. He got the call during half time of the third game seeing that they were going to lose.
