READ OR DIE

HOW TO PLAY:

- All of you will be PM’d a role and your alignment. The objective is to eliminate all members of the opposing alignment from the game.

- Each player has been given a role with their own special ability. Your PM will explain what it does, if you are meant to know. You don’t have to reveal what your role is to the other players, nor will I do so in my updates. Then again there is nothing to stop you, so if you feel that it may help prove your innocence, go ahead – just keep in mind that this could also backfire and help the mafia. In other words, claim at your own risk. Likewise, you may lie about who you are if you wish. If you want to use your abilities, PM me. DO NOT post it in the thread.

- The game is split into two phases, Day and Night. The game begins during the day, and all players (Mafia and Townie alike) post in the thread, deciding who to kill off. Lynching is the only way for the Townies to kill the Mafia, so be sure to examine voting patterns of your fellow players. I might also provide clues in the death write ups, but over-reliance on those is ill-advised as some may be traps. Day phases will last 48 hours or until a consensus is reached. Night phases will last 24 hours but may end earlier if all night activities are concluded.

- All voting and discussion is to occur within the thread. Town players may discuss who they think is Mafia, and Mafia members should be trying to bluff/convince/blend in, and generally try not to get voted for. To vote, post Vote: Username (MUST BE IN BOLD!). You can also change your vote, by typing Change Vote: Username (AGAIN BOLDED!). You can also change your vote to nobody by typing Change Vote: No Vote (IN BOLD!). You can also choose to vote for No Lynching by using Vote: No Lynch (yeah... BOLDED!), meaning you actively vote to not lynch anyone during that day phase rather than passively not voting at all. You must post in the thread for your vote to be counted. You do not have to vote if you do not wish to.

- A Day Phase is over whenever a person obtains more than 50% of the vote (and is lynched) or when the 48 hours run out. If no majority vote has been reached by the time the day phase expires, a no lynch will be declared. Once a person dies, I will reveal their alignment and role.

- Night falls after somebody is executed or a no lynch is achieved. During this time, the Mafia can discuss who they want to kill next (using whatever form of communication appeals to them). Abilities are also used during this time. To use an ability, PM both mods (d_w_w / blackphoenix), and we'll PM you the outcome of the ability the following day phase. If it is something serious like somebody getting killed, I will update it in the thread. If possible though, try to PM me what you want to do as soon after night falls as possible to keep things moving along at a quick pace.

- Night ends once I post who gets killed, and the cycle repeats itself. The Town players win if all Mafia members are dead, and vice versa. Remember, this is a team effort, so if you think sacrificing someone may help your cause, go ahead.

-Remember, some roles such as investigators and protectors are more valuable to the town – so try to keep them alive!

RULES:

- I know it’s the Dog Pound, but try not to postwhore in the thread anyway. Feel free to trash talk, accuse, call out other players if you want, but if you’re going to vote, at least state some kind of reason as to why you’re doing so.

- Though I can’t force you to post, I’d love to see active participation. I would advise everyone try to check in with this game at least once a day. Things move fast and you can fall behind pretty easily.

- Once you are dead, you stay dead, and may not participate until the game is over. This includes notes found on your corpse, cryptic messages from the dead, etc, etc. You may also not advise the remaining players on what to do – besides, to prevent cheating, I will not provide the dead with any additional information than they would get if they were still alive. Of course, I’m willing to listen to your theories as to what’s going on. Likewise, I'd appreciate if those not taking part try not help those playing, though general comments on how things are going would be welcomed in the Sign Up Thread.

- Unless your role PM specifically states otherwise, all players may not discuss game plan, your role, or alignment outside the thread. Of course, I can’t enforce this, but I believe secretly revealing information amongst each other would spoil the game, so try not to do it.

- Players are not allowed to edit their posts in this thread at all, as it allows for those who make mistakes to remove all of the evidence without any effort. Since I can't enforce this, I strongly encourage all players to scrutinize any posts they notice that have been edited.

-Players are not allowed to cut and paste anything straight from the Role PM except the Role title. No cutting and pasting from the body of the PM. You can paraphrase what your Role PM says but that is all.

-Please play your role/alignment and play to win. We will be strict about this, so please don't make us enforce it.

-Talking about your role after death or to those who have died IS NOT allowed.

-Not everything is as it seems. If something unexpected happens, feel free to question it to me in private, and if I can, I'll answer.

We reserve the right to mod kill if we find out that any of these rules have been broken. Please remember that you are not the only one playing this game, so don't ruin it for everyone else!

Another tower fell in under 10 seconds. This was shaping up to be the most successful and famous realm raid of all time. And it was all happening because of a single guild! His guild!

The next tower was a short distance away. They take this tower, then the enemy keep is theirs. They just needed a minute to setup. This had to be surgical. The guards had to go down quickly, before they could send for help.

He lurked from a safe distance. What they were doing was impressive. It really was. Of course, he had done the same thing a year ago. It was nothing new.

lol. The zerglings were coming. He could see them in the distance. This should be entertaining.

All of this success and the main forces of the realm hadn't even got there yet! d_w_w was so excited, this was the first time that he ever participated in a realm raid against the enemy. His heart was racing as they rushed into the tower.

222222222222222222222222222222222222! d_w_w mashed his finger on the hotkey for his area of effect spinning attack repeatly, trying to pick up as much spam as possible.

They watched from a distance. He couldn't believe it. His guild put in all the work and these clowns rush into steal the glory. Sigh... they always ruined the game. To make matters worse, these n00bs don't seem to have a plan. They're just brute forcing the tower...

It took exactly 1 minute for the tower to fall. That's 45 seconds too long. Reinforcements will show up. "Guys, are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

A series of /nod's are sent to him in response.

The guild rushed down the hill to the tower. "GG n00bs. You just ruined another realm raid. Way to suxx0r it up."

Most of the zerg knew better than to respond. They were casual gamers and the knew that this particular guild didn't like them. d_w_w, a freshly minted max-level character, didn't know this. He was happy with his buttom mashing performance and decided to speak up. He walked towards the guild leader. "LOL! We were helping you guys? We pwned this tower!"

He thinks they pwned the tower. What an idiot! He should die... why in fact, he will!

The sword thrust was quick and unexpected. The guild leader had one-shotted d_w_w.

The leader of the zerg turned. He saw the casual gamer die. "Hey WTF? You're killing your own now?"

The leader of the guild didn't respond at first. He had never killed a realmmate before. It felt... so sasifying. He soaked it in. "Yeah, I killed him. And we're going to kill the rest of you, too! Let's go guys!"

The elite guild ran off up the hill. "Watch your back n00bs. You're our new target!"

The leader of the guild shook his head (IRL) in disbelief. Realmies killing realmies... sigh, how did things come to this? Oh well, no time to think. He gathered his zerg and ran off, knowing that this tower was no longer safe. The realm raid would have to wait. Now, he, and the rest of the casual gamers, had to deal with a threat from within.

Yes. I realize that's a little less (by an hour or so) than 48 hours, but I'm going to make the deadlines as close to 48 hours as possible, while still ending near times that I can be around.

I played COH/COV for a few months (Around the time COV came out). I then played WOW for a few months but booth got very boring so now I don't play any.

Im the same way mate, tried a couple and never really stuck with them.

I cant do that 6 hour in front of the monitor hitting the '2' key repetitively thing.

There's a new Star Wars mmo coming out. Dunno if it will be any good but you would think from the source material there should be more great SW games.

Its being made by Bioware, should be a solid game.

Ive played CoH and WoW.

Also...tried the Matrix beta. That game was absolute trash.

Well....yes but no.

Basically it has a real cash economy (RCE) so whilst its free to download and play. Your going have to drop in some cash at some point. The hook is, you can also withdraw cash. Now the makers. MindArk. big this up a lot, and talk about how you can make money in game. Don't fall for the hype, its rare that people make a profit.

But then again there are some that do, and a few who have given up work and now earn there living in-game. You may be a lucky one. there's also ppl that never drop any cash in and managed to play the game for free to a pretty decent level.

Yeah, though it is some time away and it is going to be on the PS3 and PC if I remember right.

Also now that people are bringing up ones that are not out yet. Champions online has my attention as one I might play and Star Trek Online is one I have no idea how I could say no to and both sound like they will be on the 360 (Champions for sure and STO is still not known for sure).

Oh and Star Trek>>>>>>>>Star Wars

I have the same MMO experience as Grunt... hell, in WoW we've slaughtered more than our fair share of Alliance together. But currently, I don't have the time for an MMO, let alone the will the fork out the cash. CoH/CoV is truly brilliant, and a really relaxing experience compared to WoW. Don't always have to worry about finding a group, or having the whole group fail because of ONE idiot who gets upset the item he wanted didn't drop, so he hearths out in the middle fo the Black Morass instance... jerk.

And the pure creativity in CoH/CoV... no where else can you make an insane, murderous, mutant hyena man cyborg! Who then learned how to shoot red lightning from his hands. Good times... good times...

And yes, the Matrix Online is a bad joke, and anyone suckered into paying money for it are the punchline. Nothing like wailing on one guy while four of his buddies just stare blankly in random directions, only deciding to fight when you're ninja kicking them in the face. A truly terrible game.

And I'm not a part of this, soo..... off I go!

With that, I own a bunch of GURPS books (including the 2 4th edition core books and Powers) yet I have never played a game (Or any pen and paper RPG for that matter).

I'm the ultimate pen & paper nerd. I helped create a Highlander game ... which rocked, until I died. And a pen and paper wrestling game, which I should've patented, since one exists now, and mine was better! And I was in high school! *Grumbles and kicks things.*

Other than those, and D&D, I tried playing Vampire: The Masquerade, but didn't get too far. Rules didn't jive with what I knew at the time. Now I could probably handle it, as D&D has adapted more to the V:TM playstyle. I haven't played anything else, though.

I really used to enjoy pen and paper Rping, I played mostly Call of Cthulu or Vampire: The Dark Ages.

I was very lucky to have an awesome Gm, who had pretty much all the books and dedicated a lot of time into the game before each session.

Call of Cthulu was played for ****s and giggles (cause everyone almost always died or went insane in like one or two sessions)

Vampire the Dark Ages was a game that went on for three years straight, he was the type of gm if you had made a enemy a year earlier and hadn't dealt with said enemy don't be suprised if he popped up 6 months to a year later 20 x as strong and after your head.

Now I don't play at all because I was so spoilt with my first gm.

Anyway back to moderation... do do do do

Unless you count goallineblitz, I actually don't play MMO's either. When DC Universe Online comes out however, I'm so there.

I wanted to let everyone know that I'm having home internet problems. I'm checking in right now from my lab, but unless it gets fixed, this will likely be the only post for today. Not that there's tons to discuss right now. I guess the question is do we attempt a lynch day phase 1 or not.

Oh, and Star Wars & Star Trek are great in their own way. I have high hopes for the newest Trek movie, while the last great Star Wars to me was the Clone Wars (animated by the Samurai Jack guys, NOT the CG movie that just came out).

Anyone play D&D growing up? Latah.

The proceeding day was calm and without intra-realm violence. The night would be different.

He sat there thinking about how he might be able to help the Casual Gamers in the upcoming days.

Tonight, however, was not a night for thinking.

The figure ran up to him, spouting off a series of derogatory and inflammatory remarks in netspeak at an incredible rate.

"dood, why don't u go n00b it up somewhere?!?! LOLOLOL! You should go play FFXI LOL!"

And the berating continued... It was clear that tonight ... he would have a headache.

Another man watched verbal assault from a distance. His intentions were unclear, but it's safe to say that he was happy to be outside of chat range.

Most players farm gold and items. This one, however, he farmed players. He held the record, both on and across servers, for the number of player kills. He had not, however, ever participated in intra-realm affairs. They were boring and uninteresting to him. This intra-realm war, however, had caught his attention. He sped across the night, with the speed of a minstrel.

He found the The Archer standing there, AFK as always. He (IRL) smirked. 2. 3. 3. First, a spell to debuff his opponent's resistance to heat magic. Then two quick fire bursts. The Archer was incinerated.

"Nice shooting." The killer turned around, ready to make another kill. Oh, it's just her. Once upon a time, she had PMed him, offering her... services... for some help in climbing the realm ladder. He declined the offer, of course. She would have only slowed him down. And he saw her pictures. She was pretty plain.

The female avatar approached him and clapped.

"Thanks." He rolled his eyes (IRL). "Aren't you supposed to making whathisname feel better about himself?"

A second bolt connects. Almost dead. But he knows her limits, she doesn't have any more bolts. 2 more seconds, and he'll... the staff connected with his head.

How could this be? How could Crychon, the most famous of all PKers, be dead? And to a staff shot... by her, no less? And yet, his character fell to the ground, rather dead.

Well... C'est la vie.

It occured to me after it was too late that I probably mishandled something last night. I think I could have done better and maybe helped us out more in the long run. He's claiming that anyone who targets him will be redirected to a random target. Though sometimes the roles works where the player can choose who to redirect towards. But if that was the case, he shouldn't have said anything yet, so I'm assuming it's random.

It would be easily tested by anyone targeting him and seeing if they get someone else instead.

Every night I reroll my charcter, giving me an ability to use. Last night I could investigate. I don't get to choose the result of my reroll, I just get told what I can do. I don't even know what the options are.

And what I mean by not getting a result, is that the PM I recieved did not tell me whether Crychon was a threat or not. Apparently I was unable to determine that. I assumed this was due to him being killed. I don't know why it would be different than what Masterded gets, unless he's more competent due to being full time.

No one else has said they did anything to me. And the one other thing I know happened to me shouldn't have messed me up since Lostrelms got the result he did. At least I don't think my "phone conversation" would be responsible for messing with my results. At least the result PM wasn't worded as a roleblock type thing. And if Lost saw me at my intended target, I assume I at least attempted what I was going for.

If the person at the other end knows that they would have messed with what I was doing, it would be nice if they spoke up. At least if they think it's worth preventing a mislynch.

And now you are claiming that you had a conversation with someone last night on top of the other ability that you have claimed? I'll be honest with you, I have read and reread the writeup. I see everything that has been claimed to have taken place. The only thing that I find missing is the investigation that you claim. Help me out here? I would love to move on, and onto some other guilty looking party, but reading over recent games and watching the good guys ignore the results that they were given resulting in tragic mistakes. I do not want to be a party to the same.

I find Gonvick's claim thought provoking. It has me sitting on the fence, not convinced either way. problem is, who else is there to jump on?

The only thoughts I'm having is:

Where's the information gatherer mentioned at the end of the write-up? A little bit of information goes a long way, and we appear to have less than that. Is there a reason that person is playing in this manner, or is that person simply on vacation?
Do we attempt the gonvick lynch? A JOAT reroller...the thing is do we trust the write-up to mention everything? Along that train of thought, the only person I see anywhere near Crychon is the female killer. On the other hand, if we were to assume gonvick is the female killer, I don't think there's any mention of Lostrelms monitoring her. D'OH!

Oh, and I'm driving home today for break, so I won't be on until tonight. If we go no lynch, I hope it'll work out for the benefit of the town at the end.

And now you are claiming that you had a conversation with someone last night on top of the other ability that you have claimed? I'll be honest with you, I have read and reread the writeup. I see everything that has been claimed to have taken place. The only thing that I find missing is the investigation that you claim. Help me out here? I would love to move on, and onto some other guilty looking party, but reading over recent games and watching the good guys ignore the results that they were given resulting in tragic mistakes. I do not want to be a party to the same.

The conversation I had wasn't of my own doing and has nothing to do with my role. Someone contacted me and I responded. If you look back to my first post for this day phase, I alluded to that conversation. Though I was trying to be vague because I didn't want to reveal too much about someone else's role. I figured that they would pick up on what I was talking about. There was another post where I did a similar thing, also alluding to that conversation.

As for everything appearing in the write ups except me, I'm not sure that's the case. I don't see anything that is clearly Masterded investigating The Archer. I also don't see anything that is clearly Lostrelms tracking me. So clearly not everything appears in the write up. Unless you can account for both of those.

I don't see Lostrelms tracking the Killer either, for that matter. There's no mention of anyone witnessing the kill, if we're expecting everything to be included in the write up.

As it stands, it's not going to do any good for me to try to lead the town in a productive manner. Anything I say could appear that I'm just trying to get out of a tight spot. Also, if I did point out scum, they might try harder to get a mislynch. Although that would be worth it if it pointed them out well enough. But if I knew scum to point out, I would have done so already. It would have been nice if one of the more proven townies would have tried leading in an alternative direction so we had more options.

But I don't want to be unhelpful either. Unfortunately, I didn't have a strong line on scum coming into this day phase. In fact, the player I was most interested in based on day 1(Masterded), would have been a bad idea to pursue. It makes me have to re-think some things.

And most of what's happened so far today has revolved around me. So I guess, personally, I'm most interested in those who have voted for me at some point. I'm not really sure whether scum would push hard for my lynch or not. On the one hand, there's probably enough reason to give them some plausible deniability. On the other hand, they might not want to have to deal with the attention that comes with voting on a mislynch.

Maybe look to those who took a middle of the road approach. Or if there's a late push, that could be their plan.

Headed out to a meeting over lunch. But as the deadline is fast approaching and the participation so far has been very lacking, it doesn't appear that very much will be accomplished this day phase. Maybe the next day phase others will be more willing to share the information that they have.
