Freegreen Heights Mafia - Game Thread

I believe everyone here knows the rules. If you need a refresher, check out one of the other game threads on the board.

Town Role Title: Example Jones, Freegreen Heights Aligned Example

Town Win Condition: You win when all threats to Freegreen Heights have been eliminated.

Note: I sent all but one player a read receipt (I forgot that one person). Once all read receipts have been read, I will inform those playing in the game. If someone fails to send me a read receipt in a timely fashion (within the first day phase or whatever), I will work on replacing them. The purpose of this practice is to say, at least, "Yes, everyone is aware the game is going on". That way, the game doesn't fall to meta and thread avoidance tactics right out of the gate. I think knowing that everyone in the game at least knows their role is a fair baseline. Anything after that is open to interpretation. :D

It was an average day in Freegreen Heights. It was always an average day in Freegreen Heights. Being a cop in this town is like being a TV weatherman in San Diego. It's a semi-prestigious position, but you really don't have to do much work.

The work you do have to do becomes pretty tedious after a while.

“What's the problem today, Julia?”

“The brand new walkways! We just paid to have them redone!”

The sidewalks were fine. Replace “walkways” with pretty much any other noun and you've got my average call. Everything is always fine.

“Hmmph...”

“Well? Aren't you going to call this in?”

“Call what in?”

“The chalk! Some kids covered the brand new sidewalks in chalk!!!!”

“Do you have a garden hose in your garage?”

“Yes, I do. Why?”

“Problem solved. It's chalk. It washes off.”

“That isn't the least bit relevant! This is STILL vandalism! I DEMAND that a town meeting is organized so I can explain to the children of this town how important our beautification efforts have been! Do you know how many hours I spend EVERY DAY making sure that this is the most aesthetically pleasing community in the state? I'm sorry, but I take my legacy very seriously. The Freegreen Heights Goodwill Association is the only thing keeping our property values up and I'm not going to allow art supplies to ruin me or my organization!”

“I understand, Julia. However, I am a law enforcement officer. I enforce the law. There is no law against chalk.”

“There should be!”

It was at this point that another chunk of my soul broke off. I came to this town to get away from the past. I didn't come to be on call to listen to nonsense 24/7. I apologized and assured Julia I'd do what I could and headed back to the station.

7:48 PM EST

I've had a lot on my mind recently. Tonight, the town was officially opening the new town hall. We had a senator coming in for the ceremony and everything. I was placed in charge of the security detail for the senator and mayor.

For some reason, there seemed to be a lot of tension in the town and people were becoming paranoid. I think the streets had been made too clean. There hasn't been a single violent or destructive crime in town in 14 months.

Regardless, people sensed something. I felt something too. It felt like everything was building to a crescendo and if it was ever going to top off, it was tonight.

I arrived at the hall and walked to the door. Most of the town was here. The P.D. was in place and the senator was to arrive any minute.

Suddenly, to my right, there was the sound of shattering glass and two officers dragged a man away from the scene. It was Rupert Hadley.

Hadley was an old Vietnam War vet who'd been a drunk and a menace since he became a widower two years ago. Once again, he must have been on a tirade. One of the two large windows on the front of the building was smashed. Perfect.

Just then, a limo pulled up to the town hall and out stepped Mayor Exposition and Senator Logan. Some townsfolk cheered before funneling into the building.

I take my place on stage. To my right is Julia Stewart, head of F.H.G.A, Senator Logan, and Mayor Exposition. The crowd is a bit restless. The room was not air conditioned and it was 85 degrees outside. Everything feels uncomfortable between the heat and the incident with Hadley. After everyone has settled, the Mayor steps up to the lectern.

“Good evening everyone and thank you all for coming. Tonight is a historic night in the history of our small town. Thanks to Senator Logan, we were able to secure the grants we needed to build this beautiful new town hall. I'd like to GAH...”

Havoc broke out. A high placed window had broken as the Mayor collapsed. Blood began to flow. The hell? I needed to get control.

“EVERYONE! EVERYONE! STAY INSIDE AND STAY LOW!”

I radioed in. There was a gunman somewhere to the east of the town hall with a view to the stage. I knew he'd be long gone by the time anyone found him, but what else was there to do? I was at the edge of panic. I looked to the stage.

“Senator, get against a wall and stay low to the floor. You too Julia.”

My phone began to ring and I answered it without thinking.

“Let the people leave the building but if they try to skip town, they're dead.”
“Who is this? What do you want?”

The call ended. I asked who it was, but I knew. I couldn't believe it.

Now, almost to the day... and a monthish... JMan wins RotN mafia as the only active player standing, and as a scummy (I believe) Don.

When I accomplished that feat, I proceeded to spend the vast majority of the games last year as scum, including the first several after Futurama.

Which means JMan will do the same, and we should lynch him now.

As far as a serious direction, I really would think that both Jman and Astil are viable options for us to look into.

As IER said the last time Astil was this aggressive right out of the gate, he turned up Scum. Now I am not saying he is, because I have no idea who is and isn't Scum, I am just saying if past play is any indication of how someone will play that is as valid of a thing to look at.

A Jman is as Scummy as the days are long...:D

Here is the thing about Plan Nine (and I own a copy of it), it is one of those movies that are so bad they are good. Much like the classic Dolemite.

On subject of the game: I will come up non-town aligned when investigated. I want to say this right now as it will look bad when I'm up for a lynch and claim the miller role. The best way to actually play that role is by putting it out there day 1 in my opinion.

I am a townie and have a rather interesting ability if I might add...

That greatly annoys me, don't expect to have the target in your head quickly dealt with just because you decided to claim Miller D1.
However, it is to our advantage, any Cop doesn't need to investigate trypio now. We have a "Guilty" already, proceeding days with lynches is the best option (even though I wasn't expecting a lynch today). If we don't have any other clues or guilties from Cops, we could lynch Trypio.

Just got black yesterday. So I'm working on Platinum, HeartGold, and now black.

He's a claimed Miller. Which, with no one refuting his claim and going "Uh uh, I'm a Miller, no way there's two of them in a game this small!!!", it means he's a very likely townie. Makes him a far safer kill attempt in terms of avoiding hitting other scum. In fact, many a day one claiming miller has been offed night one or two.

That said, hopefully any protectors out there recognize this as well, and will keep him alive should they make a "risk to scum-free" play on him.

Night Phase 1

After a day of quiet concern, some citizens of FGH decided to take action rather than stay inside in fear. Random snipers don't tend to disappear on their own...

One man had a cause tonight.

He started to head out to his target location, but barely after he stepped outside of his house, he was approached by a woman he didn't recognize. It could have been the darkness, but he wasn't sure.

"Hey, do you think you can help me out?"

"I'm not sure. What do you need?"

At that question, the woman merely smiled and took the man by the hand and started to walk. He wouldn't get much done tonight.

Another man in a different part of town smiled. He didn't expect to see that guy standing there, but he was glad he did.

Near the distant edge of the town, next to the wall that surrounded the community, a man in a very sharp looking jacket glanced at the address in his hand. He was told he would find who he was looking for here, but he must have had the wrong street or something. He walked inside anyway.

Inside, another men stepped out from around the corner.

"You know I can't let you leave tonight, right?"

The man in the jacket looked at the other man's hand and swallowed hard. He sighed.

"I was actually looking for you tonight."

"And I you. Now get over here and step inside."

"Better idea..."

The jacketed man took out a folded piece of paper from his pocket, unfolded it, and proceeded to write something down before handing it over to the other man.

The other man smirked.

"Are you serious?"

The jacketed man merely started whistling and began to walk away.

"You know the place, I'm sure."

A man who had been outside soon knew that he could go home tonight knowing his expertise would not be necessary.

In a dark, smelly room, a somewhat large man typed away.

"Of course! Of course!!!"

Back near the center of town, a woman was spending the night alone. She had made her place very neat and tidy and she made sure her door was locked and that everyone across the street knew she was home.

Outside, a prowler was casing the home. This would be an easy one. The prowler climbed the back deck, grabbed onto a second floor windowsill, placed their foot against a nearby tree, raised the window, and slipped inside. The prowler was quite impressed with how easy that was. They hadn't had to do that in years.

Once inside, the intruder looked around. It seemed like a boring bedroom. There was only one thing decent looking in the room and it was sitting on the bedside table. The prowler grabbed it and slipped back out from where they came.

Alone, in a comparatively run down part of town, a man was alone at home biding his time. The establishment had allowed the incident on the previous night to go unpunished. The people, united, could surely have found that sniper by now.

These thoughts were sort of ironic considering who was scoped in on his head at that mount.

Looking at the write-up so far, many parts seem vague enough to leave different interpretations on it so far. I wonder if the man at the end of the eerie encounter is the same man as one of the two, or a third party.

Also, seems like there's bus driving mechanics in store here, I just don't know if there are two parts alluding to it or just one. The former could answer certain questions down the line sooner.

It's possible that if he IS scum, other scum targeted him to make him appear townie (see also: Derek B in Video Game Mafia 1), but right now I'm leaning away from that line of thought.

Okay, seriousness ... I have three things bugging me right now, above everything swirling. 1 - was Rev a lucky shot? To hit what was hit that early means that luck wasn't on his side, or someone saw something that escaped me. Or thought they saw something that may or may not have been there. Which makes me curious as to what SGR was up to during the evening hours.

2 - JackalBane "popped" in, making reference to SF's post about him, yet never broached the questions raised. This vexes me, I'm extremely vexed.

And 3 - I still don't know if I was smart enough to see myself in the write up or not. Neither here nor there, just bugs me. lol

Day 2 Event

While the town discussed what course of action to take, one man wasn't present. He had other business to take care of.

He was alone, which was a fairly rare occurrence. It was broad daylight and everyone was in the town hall. What did he have to be afraid of?

He heard a knock on his motel room door. A man was standing outside holding a bucket. It must have been a janitor. He opened the door.

"Can I help you?"

"No."

With that, the bucket holding man reached into his pail, pulled out a small handgun and shot the motel patron 3 times in the stomach before stripping off his blood covered shirt, dropping the pail, and running off.

The man who was shot couldn't make much sound and certainly couldn't make it to a phone. No one was nearby to hear the gunshots either. He would soon bleed out. It would be a few hours before anyone would realize what had happened (or, especially, who had been killed).
