View Full Version : Ability to improve contract

So I just noticed it while playing ALPHA-1 (though the possibility crossed my mind in some earlier games). As that promotion is set up the only viable challenger to the MW title is Mal Phe Roby, who is on a standard contract. Common sense would be to sign him to an exclusive one (even if he wanted more money, I think the cost outweighs the risks) before he gets the title shot just in case he becomes champion and then KDM FC signs him on a associate deal and messes my schedule by booking him every so often.

However when I tried to enter negotiations with Roby the game reminded me that I can't do it since he is still contractually obligated to fight out his ALPHA-1 contract (who I was playing). This isn't a big deal but that restriction is a bit silly especially since the contract will be improved money-wise and, quite frankly, as a match-maker of a major org it's irresponsible on my part to book fighters not exclusive to me in title fights and too bad I can't do nothing about it.

Allowing an extension of an existing contract would make it theoretically possible for a fighter to NEVER go on the market by blocking him ever getting to his last fight or the end of his contract. While it does make sense, it would cut off a lot of potential negotations elsewhere and hurt the game.

Derek is correct, that's the main reason for the new system. People were always complaining that bigger promotions could lock their talent down and you'd never get a chance to sign them, and the new system prevents that. I think the suggestion being made is one that has only been considered from the player's point of view, and not from a game-wide one.

Fair play to you guys although in my defense I'll say I certainly wouldn't begrudge the AI for locking guys to exclusive deals if they want to give them title fights. This would be a one-time deal anyway with the only time it's possible is when switching a standard contract for an exclusive one, I didn't think or want an ability to enter negotiations for a new exclusive deal when a fighter still has more than one exclusive fight remaining.

But I guess the replies say that this came down to game balance issues so I can live with that.
