View Full Version : A little confused on PPV ratings

I put together a PPV that had 5 Fantastic fights, 1 Great fight, 2 Good fights, 4 Decent fights and 1 Poor fight. All of my matches in the main card were rated higher than Decent and the main event was Decent and the Co-main event was Fantastic.
Yet, my PPV rating was Awful?
My PPV had the main event of Sean Morrison vs. Bruce Steven for the lightweight title and the finals of a LHW tournament that turned out to be John Rivero and Anthony LeToussier, which they had an incredible match that was rated Fantastic.
The main event was said to be a "great main event" and the co-main event is no doubt at least a "good co-main event."
So any other clarification on how PPVs are rated would be helpful. Not one of my matches was awful.
If I had to guess, it would be that tournaments aren't rated high for hype/anticipation for the crowd.

The match ratings are completely irrelevant - people purchase the event before the matches happen, so why would the buyrate be effected by them? People buy based on the draw of the event.

What was main card and what was prelim?
The more fights your have on the main card, the harder it is to get a good rating. The more unknown or low leveled fighters you have on the main card, the harder it is to get a good rating. Those are just a few of the things I've noticed. I think fight quality should play a bigger role in determining the quality of a show.

Well the buy rate was half a million.
My very first PPV I had 491,000 compared to 522,000 for the next PPV.
The first PPV had James Foster vs. Raul Hughes as main and Tim Boyer vs. Rick Stanley as co-main... both fights are much bigger than the two I had in my second PPV (at least in my eyes).

I agree about the fight quality playing the biggest part and not the hype.
Anyway, the LHW tournament played the biggest part of my main card with only one fight taking place in the prelim. I think from now on, I will only have the semis and finals taking place on the main card.

You're thinking way too linearly. Why is the second rating higher than the first despite the main event being weaker? Because the first one will have made you more popular and got more fans interested in you, therefore guaranteeing that more people will want to watch next time around. Your events don't happen in isolation, you're not taking into account that the previous one will have a knock-on effect on the next.

All-righty. Kind of wish the PPVs were rated a little differently, but I can live with the system in place since it's easily manipulated.

I ran into the same ratings issues in beta, i think it's catching a lot of people out. Whilst it's labeled rating, it's more about buy rate than match ratings overall. Perhaps it should be renamed Adam?

I don't think 'Adam' would be a very good name for it. That'd just be more confusing. ;) :p
