Can someone clarify something for me - I get the idea of prelims for TV and PPVs, but do they serve any purpose for a normal event for a company without any TV/PPV coverage?

They are used for building up \ scouting \ giving experience to lower-level fighters.

Is there an advantage to putting these types of fighters in a prelim match for a non PPV/TV event as opposed to the main card?
I haven't noticed any disadvantage in putting them in main card fights rather than prelims so far playing as BCF, who obviously don't have any coverage at all (their popularity rose, the 5-7 fight cards were all great/fantastic/excellent, with usually at least two unkown fighters on the main card, and the org popularity rose by an average of 5% each time - so would all of these factors have been better if the unknown fighters were billed as prelims?)

If they're totally unknown, it's better to use them on the prelims as then they have zero effect on the show rating. If they're on the main undercard they have a (very small) impact on the rating - and as sometimes a very small impact can be the difference between one boundary and the next, it often isn't worth risking it.

Also if someone is very boring then keep them on the pre lims untill there contract runs out.

But is there _any_ advantage to putting someone in this position on the main undercard instead of the prelims?
Ignoring the impact to my fed's popularity, if two unknown fighters face off, will their popularity increase any more if they're not on the prelim?

Yes. if they are on PPV or TV then more people will be able to see them fight, dont know how big the jump is though.

Really, I guess you just gotta balance it right. Would you rather your shows popularity take a small hit, and your fighters gain more popularity, or not have your show take a small hit and have the fighter gain less name value.

Now I've played on a little more, and BCF are a High regional company, the idea of the prelims become more apparent. Up to and including mid regional, fans were happy with anything - now some fights do obviously need to be before the main card
