MOD'S AWARDS
MVP goes to Self. I admit that I may have been TOO detailed with some of the stuff I wrote, but chalk that up to wanting to capture the essence of Final Fantasy in this game. Self just took the info and basically led the Gullwings—and the town—to victory. Honorable mention: Zero9teen.
Scum MVP: Derek_b. Until The Two was lynched, he had quite a bit of the town thinking he was still one of them; he did well to hold on as long as he did.
"Scum Group Most Likely to Implode" award goes to the Gestahl Empire (Machinesxe, mjdgoldeneye, Librarian).
Best Scene, and this is me simply stroking what ego I have, goes to the skipped day phase (Day Four). That was the most fun I had in writing out a scene the entire game.
Most Underrated in this game: Jaded. If he hadn't continually blocked Astil from recruiting, the Ivalice Alliance would have been a cult when all was said and done. By sticking to his guns, Jaded actually helped preserve a town win, though at the time the game was played I was pulling my hair in frustration, hoping Jaded would find something else to do at night. :p
Best Roleclaim: praguepride as Rinoa Heartilly (false). This drew the real Rinoa (Derek) into the open, and so was ultimately a smart move by the Dark Omen.
Funniest Roleclaim: mjdgoldeneye as Sora (false). Really…Kingdom Hearts in my Final Fantasy?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks to all those who've gone before for putting this together. Special thanks to Thomnipotent, without whom this idea would have never come to fruition. We hope it does your vision justice.
Note that a new mechanic will be explained in the rules post, so no skimming!
READ OR DIE
HOW TO PLAY:
- All of you will be PM’d a role and your alignment. The objective is to eliminate all members of the opposing alignment from the game.
- Each player has been given a role. You may also have a special ability. Your PM will explain what it does, if you are meant to know. You don’t have to reveal what your role is to the other players, nor will we do so in our updates. Then again there is nothing to stop you, so if you feel that it may help prove your innocence, go ahead - just keep in mind that this could also backfire and help the mafia. In other words, claim at your own risk. Likewise, you may lie about who you are if you wish. If you want to use your abilities, PM us. DO NOT post it in the thread unless your role PM states otherwise!
- The game is split into two phases, Day and Night. The game begins during the day, and all players (Mafia and Townie alike) post in the thread, deciding who to kill off. Lynching is the only sure-fire way for the Townies to kill the Mafia, so be sure to examine voting patterns of your fellow players. There may also be clues in the death write ups, but over-reliance on those is ill-advised as some may be traps. Day phases will last 48 hours or until a consensus is reached. Night phases will last 24 hours but may end earlier if all night activities are concluded.
- All voting and discussion is to occur within the thread. Town players may discuss who they think is Mafia, and Mafia members should be trying to bluff/convince/blend in, and generally try not to get voted for. To vote, post Vote: Username (MUST BE IN BOLD!). You can also change your vote, by typing Change Vote: Username (AGAIN BOLDED!). You can also change your vote to nobody by typing Change Vote: No Vote (IN BOLD!). You can also choose to vote for No Lynching by using Vote: No Lynch (yeah... BOLDED!), meaning you actively vote to not lynch anyone during that day phase rather than passively not voting at all. You must post in the thread for your vote to be counted. You do not have to vote if you do not wish to.
- A Day Phase is over whenever a person obtains more than 50% of the vote (and is lynched) or when the 48 hours run out. If no majority vote has been reached by the time the day phase expires, a no lynch will be declared. Once a person dies, their alignment and role will be revealed.
- Night falls after somebody is executed or a no lynch is achieved. During this time, the Mafia can discuss who they want to kill next (using whatever form of communication appeals to them). Abilities are also used during this time. To use an ability, PM the mods (ShadowedFlames / Arrows / Actarus), and we'll PM you the outcome of the ability the following day phase. If it is something serious like somebody getting killed, I will update it in the thread. If possible though, try to PM us what you want to do as soon after night falls as possible to keep things moving along at a quick pace. Please note that with a mod and two co-mods, you may need to send two PMs for a night action, so plan accordingly.
- Night ends once we post who gets killed, and the cycle repeats itself. The Town players win if all Mafia members are dead, and vice versa. Remember, this is a team effort, so if you think sacrificing someone may help your cause, go ahead.
- Remember, some roles such as investigators and protectors are more valuable to the town - so try to keep them alive!
– SPECIAL MECHANIC FOR THIS GAME: Characters in most RPGs can take more damage than the common person, and this is no exception in Final Fantasy. As such, there are two "levels" of health: "Healthy" and "Injured." Healthy status equates to full HP, while Injured is anything less. This plays a key role in regard to abilities that only injure an opponent. Healthy targets lose a portion of their health and become Injured, while Injured targets can die if targeted by an attack that injures someone. Injuries can be healed by characters skilled in white magic, and those healed in this manner will be restored to Healthy status regardless of how close to death their injuries may have taken them. Injured players may post as normal in the game thread, unless noted otherwise by one of the mods. Injured players also require the same number of votes to lynch as healthy players. We are aware that this may take some getting used to, so please let us know if you have any questions regarding this particular mechanic.
RULES:
- This may be a Mafia game thread, but try not to postwhore in the thread anyway. Feel free to trash talk, accuse, call out other players if you want, but if you’re going to vote, at least state some kind of reason as to why you’re doing so.
- Though we can’t force you to post, we’d love to see active participation. We would advise everyone try to check in with this game at least once a day. Things move fast and you can fall behind pretty easily.
- Once you are dead, you stay dead, and may not participate until the game is over except in very rare cases. This includes notes found on your corpse, cryptic messages from the dead, etc, etc. You may also not advise the remaining players on what to do - besides, to prevent cheating, I will not provide the dead with any additional information than they would get if they were still alive. Of course, I’m willing to listen to your theories as to what’s going on. Likewise, I'd appreciate if those not taking part try not to help those playing, though general comments on how things are going would be welcomed in the Sign Up Thread. As is tradition in these games, though, one after-death 'ghost post' is permitted to bemoan your fate, curse your lynchers and so on. Be advised that because this is Final Fantasy, "death" may not necessarily be final, so those players who have been killed should keep up with the game regardless. One never knows who might be carrying a Phoenix Down or a Life materia/magicite.
- Unless your role PM specifically states otherwise, all players may not discuss game plan, your role, or alignment outside the thread. Of course, we can’t enforce this, but secretly revealing information amongst each other would spoil the game, so try not to do it. If it comes to our attention that you've been talking about the game outside the thread then you will be killed. This is your only warning.
- Players are not allowed to edit their posts in this thread at all, as it allows for those who make mistakes to remove all of the evidence without any effort. Since I can't enforce this, I strongly encourage all players to scrutinize any posts they notice that have been edited.
-Players are not allowed to cut and paste anything straight from the Role PM except the Role title. No cutting and pasting from the body of the PM. You can paraphrase what your Role PM says but that is all.
- Please play your role/alignment and play to win. We will be strict about this, so please don't make us enforce it.
- Talking about your role after death or to those who have died IS NOT allowed.
- Not everything is as it seems. If something unexpected happens, feel free to question it to us in private. If we can, we'll answer. If not, we'll be blunt and tell you that we can't answer it at the present time.
[NEW ADDITION!] – It is strictly forbidden to use the mods as an escape conduit. Saying that you can do such-and-such that may be outside the scope of the game "because the mods said I can" will result in your character dying. We are here to mod the game, not be a method of escape for someone. Consider yourselves warned.
We reserve the right to mod kill if we find out that any of these rules have been broken. Please remember that you are not the only one playing this game, so don't ruin it for everyone else!
The mods for this game are ShadowedFlames, Arrows, and Actarus. All PMs regarding abilities, questions or anything else should be sent to all of us. If you fail to communicate your information then we will go on what we have. You may lose your powers, you may miss a turn... you may even die. You have been warned! It will be repeated here that with a three-man mod team, you may need two PMs to get information across to us all. Keep this in mind if you're nearing the phase deadline.
Let us all keep in mind that this is a game and should be an enjoyable experience.

ShadowedFlames, Arrows, and Actarus present:
Final Fantasy Mafia: Light Beyond the Darkness
{Exterior – Returners’ Hideout}
The mountain air brought vigor to his old body as he stood in the lookout position, the Lete River roaring in the distance. For so long, he had waited for the day the Returners would overthrow the Empire, and it seemed that the day was soon to come. Word had come to him that the Empire was done with the war, and wished to broker peace. As the nominal head of those opposing the Empire, he felt the need to attend these talks personally, to see with his own eyes that which he thought he would never see in his lifetime.
The sound of an engine caught his attention as he turned to the south. An airship, bearing Imperial colors, was coming around Mt. Kolts and making a beeline for the cavern system the Returners used as a hideout. Squinting, he tried to identify the vessel a bit more before it came too close, only to find no other distinguishing marks apart from the vessel’s color scheme.
“Sir Banon! It is time to depart!”
With a deep sigh, Banon nodded at this. “So be it. Have the men prepared regardless; I sense foul play.”
“Aye. Godspeed.”
With his walking stick firmly in hand, Banon weaved his way out of the cave system and emerged at ground level, two of his most loyal followers trailing him as a robed emissary from the Empire stood before them. The red hood of the emissary left his face perpetually covered, and his hands remained inside the sleeves of his white robe. “Sir Banon of the Returners?”
At Banon’s nod, the emissary continued. “The Emperor has requested a formal dinner in the capital of Vector to discuss plans for peace and to end this war. He was requested that you make all haste to Vector, so that talks can begin in earnest. The Emperor has also given permission to travel to the capital in this airship, in which quarters have been arranged for you and your men.”
“I thank you. Let us be off; the longer we tarry the more lives are lost due to the war.”
Without showing as much as a hint of acknowledgement, the emissary turned and led the way for Banon and his associates. No one could see the grin under his hood, as the plan continued to fall together as the Emperor had told him it would.
{Interior—Vector, Imperial Castle Dining Hall}
He did not let the size of the dining hall intimidate him. He was used to wide open spaces, so the size of the hall seemed trivial to him. Across from him sat the man behind all of the atrocities of the war. Something still didn’t sit right with Banon as he gazed into the face of the man who had been in strict opposition to his own morals and beliefs.
“I’ve lost the will to fight, Banon. My subjects wish to rebel, my troops seem to disregard orders...in the last week I’ve lost half of my army because of desertion. Perhaps what they are trying to tell me is that we don’t need this war. I’m not going to disagree with them any more than I have.”
“Wise is the man who listens to the people.”
Silently, the opposite figure picked up his goblet of wine, as a servant poured a fresh glass for Banon. “A toast?”
“Indeed. To our hometowns.” Both men drained their goblets before getting to the matter at hand. Scarcely five minutes had passed before Banon began to feel flushed. The room seemed to warm up considerably as it spun around him. Even the voice of his counterpart seemed distant. He could taste his own blood, and knew something was wrong. Gripping the side of the table, he tried to focus his mind on the one spell he knew before all others, as he spoke the word to activate it.
“__________”
A look of confusion crossed his face before it was replaced by fear. His voice could not be heard; he could not get the words out to activate the magical phrase. As he collapsed to his knees, with blood starting to come out of his nose, the other man rose to his feet, staring down at his long-time nemesis.
“You see, Banon...only a fool would believe what I have spoken today. I have found lands with power far greater than the Sealed Cave to the east. As we speak, my forces are in the process of claiming that land, as a new era dawns for the Empire!”
Banon’s eyes widened, and he frantically tried to get his voice to work in order to stop this madness before it could get any worse. However, his body could not keep going, as the poison raced through his system. The last thing he saw before the darkness claimed him for his own was an ominous aura surrounding the man he had tried for so long to defeat...
ShadowedFlames is dead. He was Banon, Town Aligned Leader of the Returners.

{Interior—Balamb Garden, Headmaster’s Office}
He could see the dark clouds in the distance, an ill omen made reality. It was a day he knew would eventually come, but never did he expect it to come this soon. He knew that this would be the greatest test that any SeeD student would ever endure, but knew deep within himself that very few, if any, would be able to pass this one.
In a way, the realization made him feel like a failure. It wasn’t a pleasant feeling, of that he was certain. But he and his staff had done everything within their power; now it was up to those who had come through Garden and emerged as SeeDs. He was too old, too weak to fight any longer.
In the distance, the clouds continued to gather, casting the southern horizon in a sea of shadow. A moment later, he could feel the presence of another in the room with him. But he was no longer afraid of what was to come. “I was wondering when you might arrive.”
“You elderly fool. Do you honestly believe that your SeeDs can hope to stop me?”
“That is their mission. I place my trust in them.”
“Which will mean nothing when time and space are no longer a factor. I will give you one chance to live, however. Tell me where she is.”
So...they were looking for her. He should have known. “I know nothing.”
The look on the woman’s face could only be described as terrible as she looked at the older man before her. “Then I shall have no regrets in making an example out of you.”
A pulsating green light appeared directly in front of the man’s face, which exploded a moment later into a massive explosion of fire and green energy. The explosion rocked Balamb Garden, setting off smaller explosions as the heat and energy became too much for the equipment inside to take. The concussive blasts rocked the very foundations of the mobile Garden. Any onlookers would have seen the Garden pulsate with a deep green glow before the entire facility detonated, sending a shockwave of green energy into the world, spreading wider and wider before finally dissipating.
At the epicenter of this explosion, the woman remained standing, seemingly untouched. Behind her, a series of round portals opened, and others gathered to join her in the crater of what used to be Balamb Garden. Her voice echoed out, dark in the omen and the power she commanded.
“Our time has come. Let us take what is rightfully ours, and make the world—no, the universe—our own.”
A rumble of general agreement met this statement as green streaks flew across the heavens, binding this world to others and sealing it within a wrinkle of space and time. There was only one way out of this now, and that was over her dead body. She would have this world, just as her comrades would have their own. Woe to those foolish enough to stand in her way.
Arrows is dead. He was Cid, Town Aligned Headmaster of Balamb Garden.

{Exterior—Mt. Gagazet, Spira}
He had always come back to this spot when he needed to think. Ever since the defeat of Vegnagun, he knew that the High Summoner would no longer have need of his protection. She had become her own woman; he was her Guardian no longer.
Now he had the Sacred Mountain to guard. With no other summoners making the pilgrimage to Zanarkand, traffic had dropped considerably on the peak of Holy Gagazet. But it was here, on the snowy plain where the High Summoner and her Guardians fought Lord Seymour of the Guado, where he stopped to look out over the Calm Plains in the distance. Further beyond that, he could barely make out the edges of the forest of Macalania before the horizon claimed everything as its' own.
It was here where he felt closest to Gagazet itself.
The winds howled and the snow blew around him, but he stood as still as a statue, the lack of a horn painfully obvious to anyone who would be looking. Despite becoming Elder, there were some who found that to be a sticking point in their beliefs, and he was loathe to admit that it troubled him greatly on some nights. However, he would not admit this to anyone, and so did this disturbance on his soul remain hidden.
He would never get the chance to tell anyone by the rising of the sun the next morning.
A deep rumbling came from the cliffs nearer the peak of Gagazet, and as he turned he saw the figure of a man who should have been Sent long ago stride toward him. A feral growl escaped his mouth as he reached for the spear that he always kept within reach, a weapon gifted to him by the High Summoner upon the completion of her pilgrimage. The figure chuckled darkly as he gazed upon the Ronso.
"In due time, beast, she will be mine. You cannot hope to stop me."
Instead of replying, the Elder ran forward, spear gripped tightly in his hand as he swung at the intruder. A wave of the hand blocked the brunt of the impact, and with a second wave three balls of fire shot from behind him, striking the Ronso in both shoulders and the torso. The impact sent the Elder to the edge of the cliff, desperately trying to get his bearings straight. As the Ronso stood again, the figure simply smirked and released another set of fireballs. The Elder tried to avoid them, but with no luck as the third one caught him square in the chest.
He felt his feet lift off the ground as he was pushed backwards, clearing the edge of the cliff as he started to fall. Dropping the spear, he grabbed hold of the lip of the cliff, his clawed hands desperately looking for purchase to allow him to resume the fight.
But the Elder never saw the bolt of lightning fall from the skies—indeed, he never suspected a thing before a loud roar of thunder echoed in his ears and the part of the cliff he was holding literally shattered. His roar as he plummeted downwards could be heard all over Gagazet, though it would be days before anyone found his broken body in a gorge near the base of the Sacred Mountain.
The smile on the mysterious figure's face as he turned from his completed handiwork was nothing short of predatory.
Actarus is dead. He was Kimahri, Town Aligned Elder of Gagazet.

Alright, I'm here. The opening doesn't mean much to me as I know almost nothing about Final Fantasy (I played Kingdom hearts I & II though).
Really, the only thing I have to mention is that the opening says to send PM's to all 3 mods. In case you all care, that means you have to send 2 PM's whenever you contact the mods.
I don't mind, but I have a feeling there will be many inconsistencies or mistakes and undoubtedly someone will make the recently popular "put target in recipient bar out of confusion/distraction" mistake. :p

Unless I'm very much mistaken, you should be able to send a PM to 3 people at once... though I just went and checked mine and it says I can send it to 5 people. So... yeah, just don't CC in your scum buddies every time you PM the mods and you should be fine.

It was the first (and only I believe) post he made. Said the initial write up was three distinct games, and that was it. It has a distinct feeling of waving your arms so people notice you there, and then stopping so they don't pay attention. This is the impression I got, anyway.

My guess would be because people are excited for the start of another game and are willing to play fast and loose early on, in the hopes that they can absorb any mistakes they may make when they still have solid numbers.
I'm going to sit back and do my usual thing... complain about it being silly, comment about pushing a no lynch so we can get into the real part of the game and act outraged at everyone if something goes wrong. That's my usual MO and I'm sticking to it.

ShadowedFlames, Arrows, and Actarus present:
Final Fantasy Mafia: Light Beyond the Darkness
{Exterior – Returners’ Hideout}
{Interior—Vector, Imperial Castle Dining Hall}
Final Fantasy 6
I'm guessing (through research) that this is Kefkakilling Banon... seems he has a thing for poisoning people though I'm sure people will correct me if I'm wrong.
\___(^)___/
{Interior—Balamb Garden, Headmaster’s Office}
Final Fantasy 8
This looks like Ultimecia blowing things up a bit. I'm not sure who's working with her since she's pretty much her own evilness in the game... though I suppose there could be other sorceresses, Seifer's crew or the other villains in the write ups working with her.
It also looks like she's looking for someone, which I would presume to be Ellone since she spends a fair amount of the game looking for her. Though with the time compression thing already happening I'm not sure how much sense that makes.
\___(^)___/
{Exterior—Mt. Gagazet, Spira}
The figure chuckled darkly as he gazed upon the Rondo.
"In due time, beast, she will be mine. You cannot hope to stop me."
Instead of replying, the Elder ran forward, spear gripped tightly in his hand as he swung at the intruder. A wave of the hand blocked the brunt of the impact, and with a second wave three balls of fire shot from behind him, striking the Rondo in both shoulders and the torso. The impact sent the Elder to the edge of the cliff, desperately trying to get his bearings straight. As the Rondo stood again, the figure simply smirked and released another set of fireballs.
Final Fantasy X and X-2 (sigh)
I never could muster the strength to finish X2, it was just too bad for me to be able to do that but I agree with someone else that this is probably Seymour up to something. As the major human(ish) villain of X he seems like the most likely candidate to be stirring up trouble here
Which brings me to what I was wanting to bring up, since it could be very important...
Do we think this lot are working together for a common cause? Or are they going to be a bunch of disparate scum groups and indies with their own win conditions based on events in their relative games? And how much more do we think hasn't been mentioned in the initial write up?

Also, if 9 people would go ahead and vote for me and wait for that magic number to be reached before switching to supermareo, I'd much appreciate it.

ShadowedFlames, Arrows, and Actarus present:
Final Fantasy Mafia: Light Beyond the Darkness
{Exterior – Returners’ Hideout}
{Interior—Vector, Imperial Castle Dining Hall}
So apparently this is FF6, a game which I know practically nothing about. Very detailed write-up, a good read, so gratz on that.
Strikes me as a FF6 Mafia group is about. This "Emporer" chap, with a Hitman... A Poisoner.
FF8. I have a bit more knowledge of this. My brother has played it through several times and rants on incessantly as to why I should give it a whirl. Sadly it ain't my cup o' tea. I require graphics, yo!
Comrades... hmm. Could the people The Sorceress is working with be the Villains in the other FF games? Seperate scum factions, unable to communicate, but loosely aligned in their goals?
This Sorceress might have killing abilities, but I'm not convinced of that fact. After all, the Cassetticons never showed up in Transformers, so opening write-ups often mislead.

FFX. Now we're getting somewhere. He's a game I've played through... which make it all the more distressing that I'm not sure who this is. Seymor? Unlike the others he seems to be working alone.
From all this I'd guess we're looking at 2+ mafia teams, possibly a third, possibly a powerful Serial Killer.

Personally, I'm never comfortable voting on someone who needs votes to activate an ability. It might just be because of some of the roles ideas I've had for other games, but more often than not I associate this with a scum ability of some sort.
Obviously others can do what they like, but helping someone without knowing what you are doing is a very risky thing to do.
Also back to the mid-morning thing, I'm guessing it's just flavour but if someone (mods preferably) could clear that up then that'd be appreciated. If they don't, then I'm gonna have to assume it's somehow relevant to someone's abilities.
And lastly, I'm off out for the next few hours. Will be back later and will be splitting my time between this and diary writing. Fun fun fun. :D

Later in the phase will be afternoon, then evening with dusk falling at the end of phase regardless of how far off it is. Night phases will be similar. Sorry for the confusion.

I'm not siding with Bear by any means but he has a point.
If Glot's decided to claim and he's town, we should know his ability and it might be worth protecting.
If Glot is scum and wants to get an early lead, I say, let him have the lead. The numbers should be able to catch up on him.
That being said...1/4 votes to get an ability....shouldn't be anything like Rev had last game, me thinks.

The only voting powers I know of are manipulations (doesn't make sense in this situation), unlynchable (again, doesn't apply), and timebombs.
What is this Chewbacca ability mentioned? And what ability did Rev have last game that is similar enough to be brought up?

Some friends of mine are running a LARP at GenCon and we're actually taking meta-game steps to punish meta-gamers, but I don't see how you could do that here.
The best you can do is become invisible through the user CP if it bothers you that much.

Every day activates at 9 votes!? What the heck could it be? I'll be honest, it sounds like a timebomb kind of thing.
I think it's a one-time thing only though.
oh nice a bandwagon and on me and started by shape of all people, id like to know what in my post is incriminating simply stating the obvious in that three different final fantasy games where mentioned and the fact that id only played/ had decent knowledge of two of them hardly seems worthy of jumping on.
that being said i'll state now im town aligned, my character is from one of the three mentioned in write up in fact was a major character in that particular final fantasy
oh and Vote: the shape one good turn deserves another
Hmm, coming outta the woodwork rather quick, aren't you? Somewhat skeptical, but I'll be willing to believe you for now if your character can well be deciphered through the first write-ups.
Change Vote: No Vote
This concerns me. I don't see an ability to help the town here, If it is an awesome ability then you have just ruined it. Why come out on day 1 and put it like that. Now i won't be a part of this vote unless i have a good reason to, and hey vote for me i have a good ability just doesn't cut it. Now if your going to give up that much you might as well say the rest of it so we have something more to go on.
He said why he came out on day 1. Either he might as well have revealed it now or reveal it when under pressure/suspicion which wouldn't help him one bit.
And tbh, you wanting him to come straight out with it quirks my eyebrow a bit..

Yeah, but if someone does that while in the game, it's usually a scum tell. Meta-gaming doesn't bother me at all because half of the time, whatever meta theory is inaccurate. If you're truly not playing your cards right, then yeah it'll show. Meta-gaming or not.

While we're on the subject of voting, my ability only activates if at least 50% of the needed majority (25% total) vote for me simultaneously.
So if we could do that at some point, I'd be happy.
That can be arranged.
I can your skepticism too, and it's reasonable.
But, it was either this, or wait for everyone to start voting for me before springing the big surprise.
At which point in time am I more likely to believed. When I'm halfway to being lynched due to suspicion, or when I'm halfway to be being lynched because I asked to be there.
No actually it could have been before you were suspect. Not a day one thing. In my opinion, this could have waited a little bit longer. It looks pretty odd that votes are being put on supermareo as day one randomness, that tends to lead to a day one lynch in games ive seen, and here you popup and say oh hey vote for me so i can test my ability that is not a one shot and im not going to bomb you guys either.

I don't see what trust you see here. I never said "I trust Glot, let's vote for him", hell I'm not even one of the few who already put their vote on Glotnot. All I said was that you said you don't understand his implications when he's explained them earlier on(and now you picked up on it, so it's all good). As for the timing of revealing it, well.. that can be a viable theory. But, with the mechanics of how his ability needs to be activated, it doesn't really look like a scum ability in the works IMO. Because if he wanted his ability to start working, he'd have to bullseye himself at some point in the game. However, he could be scum, but with a townish ability. Whatever the case, I'm wanting to see what comes out of the SO's deal(supermareo and superowens) first.

I'll be honest, unless there I get more info, I think Glotnot's a scum using confusion.
"Hey Guys! Vote for me but don't lynch me and I can do something cool! Trust me, it helps the town! "
As I listed above the only "powers effecting lynch votes" I can think of are bombs and martyrs (those are the guys that kill people who vote for them, right?)
If what he said is true, then it:
A) Requries 9 votes. No more? No less?
B) Can happen every day?
C) Is it a day or night ability?
The idea of limits, and possibly limit breakers is probable. My guess is that if he gets 9 votes but isn't lynched he becomes invincible that night phase. The problem though is that eats up votes needed for lynching. Could be a scum tactic to make lynches harder.
"1/4 of you need to vote for me every night and...uh...I'll be invincible"
Well, of course he'll be invincible, he's scum and won't kill himself. Not saying that's what the claim/ability IS, just saying that if it's a supposed ability that requires 1/4 of the votes and we accept it at face value, that would be a rather clever scum ploy to make actual lynches even harder to achieve as you'd need 3/4 of the people to vote to compensate for the 1/4 voting for him to "charge" his ability, which he is rather mum about.

In FF X you could set what your limit "charge" was.
In VII and IX (don't remember VIII very well...) your limit was on damage dealt/received.
In X I know you could set it on a variety of things, like whether allies were killed or injured, from healing your allies.
If that mentality is brought over then limits could be triggered by such things like:
# of people targeting you during the night
# of votes
# of days ( every 3rd day or something like that)
injuries
# of townies/scum/neutrals killed
# of night kills
# of people voting (in general). <--- that'd be a neat one. Your goal would be to try and get as many people as possible to vote, no matter who it's for, to trigger your ability.
There's a lot of metrics that could be gathered and measured, and thus be used to charge your abilities.

I'm not even saying limit abilities are even in. But I doubt anyone would have access to them without first getting hurt and so I'm basing my logic on that. The actual trigger, if there is one, would probably be a random number generator.
But again, that's assuming they are even in and I wouldn't assume that is the case.
As for Glotnot, I think we're trying to read too much into it. I know I'm not going to vote for him because I won't enable something without knowing what it is. The actual number of votes isn't menacing, it's pretty simple. And it isn't a new thing for someone to need votes to trigger or improve an existing ability... but again, I just don't trust it to be helpful without information.
Some people will and they can vote for him if they want. I won't push for information from him today, but he also won't get my vote without it. And so it comes down to people trusting him without info vs giving info to get trust. If he doesn't give info then it's probably not very valuable in the first place.

I guess I'm being a bit paranoid because I think that might be a nasty scum trick.
"I need X votes (1/2 necessary number) and I'll be invincible during the night phase."
That eats up 1/4 of the total votes, leaving only 3/4 votes available for the other lynches. Now in the beginning it might not be that bad, but imagine later on during the middle-to-end game when every vote counts.
Now entering Praguepride's paranoid fantasy scenario.
Say that Glot is scum. he tells us to dedicate a few but not too many votes and he'll be protected at night. Helpful for him but not really helpful for the rest of the town. But then again not a viscous claim, not an overpowered ability that would draw investigator attention, so we just take it as is.
Now scum can divert votes away from a lynch, promoting more "no lynch" days and thus reducing the ability of townies to lynch scum. It's subtle and seems unimportant now, but the end game possabilities are tremendous if people just accept it and drop votes on him to "charge his ability"
Now leaving praguepride's paranoid fantasy scenario.
I guess for me the important thing is whether this ability would be noticable or not?
@Glotnot: Is this a whole world effecting ability or just a personal ability?
I'll reserve further judgement and brainpower upon hearing his answer to these speculations and questions. I don't believe that this question is too invasive that it would warrant evasion...

The only theoretically possible ways it could make lynches harder was if 1) it took a lot of time to complete (nine people voting, and then removing their votes at the beginning of the day while the lynch-victim is being deliberated upon hardly eats up any time), and 2) if the voters had to STAY voting on me, which is a valid point but I don't think it to be the case.
Depending on certain game mechanics and the actions of other characters, theoretically speaking, it could affect a lot of other characters.
I guess I'm not quite sure what you mean by world affecting. It's an ability I gain. Does it end/accelerate phases? No. Nothing like that.
Prague.. good thinking, but he didn't say the votes need to stay on him. He said vote on me then switch em back.
Okay. I know one limit which was "emotionaly" driven. Do you do a specific limit?
A few.
Argh.... damn you curiosity. I always thought limits were the coolest thing in FF...I...must...find...out...

But you still didn't answer my important question in clear and concise terms! I will move this vote if you don't.
Is this an ability that only effects you? effects a specified target(s)? effects the people who voted on you? or is this a global event?
The specific people who vote for me are at this point irrelevant.
My scumometer is going off the charts! All these "hey look over here" "no wait, look over here" "hey, I have no idea what's going on, lol!" posts...

I can't speak for everyone, just my own perspective on things. I tend not to be an early phase voter, as a general rule. I like to see things unfold, and what I can pick up, which is part of why I didn't want to pile on SM. That and he was just shy of 1/3rd the vote total. I don't know ratios this game, I don't see adding weight to the scales as a good thing, if a bunch of people can jump on, and whamm-o, Cloud's dead, ya know? (Example, not meant to be anything more.)
As for Glot - I'm not entirely certain about something said, and I definitely don't want details, and even asking this question may pry into that, in which case, you can tell me you'd rather not get into it now. Is your unlocked ability constant? Same thing every night it's activated?
By the way, just to cause more confusion (kidding) I want to say Day 1 I am a miller.
I approve of this. While the benefits of being able to catch someone in a lie when they're claiming a miller and they're scum is great, if you even think statistically, claiming to be the miller early saves so much headache. Imagine you're a cop and you don't share your info because you think you hit the miller or you don't know if you're insane, now Astil is your test dummy. If you had to come out to catch someone else in a lie, it'd probably waste a whole day phase and you'd have to claim. Unless someone pops and says 'me too', I'm glad you did this.

'Cause if Seymour is looking for Yuna and Ultimecia is looking for the person she had some kind of unhealthy obsession with in FFVIII, then it stands to reason Sephiroth would probably be looking for Cloud.
Kuja may be looking for Zidane for all I know, though that's rather doubtful and wouldn't make as much sense, since he always knew where Zidane was. 'Cause he's basically the one who was sending Zidane around like the big manipulator he was.

In completly unrelated to this game news, I just defeated Marlboro for the Lvl 14 title in the Wrestling Game. Awesome. :)
And back to this... lots of people trying to leave subtle hints as I would've expected. Time to once again restate a law of mafia. Most people (obviously) miss subtle hints... but it only takes 1 scummy person to get it for an entire mafia team to know it while most people on their own will struggle to get it.
So in short... subtle hints often backfire in the early going. I think I've picked up on some but not as many as a mafia team could have picked up on. :(

Put it this way, I genuinely laughed when I read lprock's "miller claim". I don't know how you could read that as anything other than snark, and him mocking Astil.
Astil says, "Yeah, btw, I'm a miller" and lprock comes back with, "Oh yeah, me too, I'm Miller Barratt because I have a motherfvcking gunarm, and I'm going to kill you tonight with one of my 8 nightly gunarm kills because I have 8 bullets in my gunarm. Gunarm. Gunarm. I have a gun for an arm. Gunarm." How that reads as anything other than snark and sarcasm and mockery is beyond me.
If I'm wrong, lprock can correct me and confirm that he is claiming miller by virtue of gunarm.
Astil and MNN, however, have claimed miller with a straight face. What interests me also is that Nick ignored Astil's serious claim and voted for Lprock instead. I think those two need to have it out.
We have at least 2 (maybe 3) miller claims so far, and that seems unlikely to me.

FF wise, I can't really think of any "real" millers.
Most FF games have an Intro Big Bad who turns out to have been manipulated by the REAL Big Bad, but I wouldn't go so far as calling them "millers" as they were generally evil, nasty people, just made eviler/nastier by their manipulators.
I can think of a couple millers but they could just as easily be scum.

If this is you trying to claim you are part of a group, then claim that and be the spokesperson for that group. One name of an obvious townie character is all it would take, and if it goes undisputed then a lot of progress can be made.

So you're basically saying your a lead character from one of the games already mentioned in the opening write up, rather than a guy from a relatively obscure game who seems to be claiming he's a miller and part of a group?
Because that's the way I've been thinking about Astil's claim since he pretty much said he's definitely a miller and from Tactics. Those claims don't look good to me.

I'm interested to see how his miller claim from a game not in the opening write up stands up, especially since he's part of a group. That just screams mafia to me, though I'd be happy to be proved wrong.

That series... I might be misunderstanding him but this looks to me like he's naming a character from his group, and Ramza is a main character from Final Fantasy tactics according to the research I did (I had no clue). If that isn't him claiming he's in a group of millers from a game that isn't mentioned in the opening write ups... well, then I'm wrong. It does happen from time but I don't think I am this time. (or any other really :p)

Given the two claims, it is the weaker one. So far there haven't been any indicators that Tactics is even in.
Plus he's not actually claiming to be Ramza (a main protaganist leader) just that he's part of that group.
Considering the number of players and the number of games, I'm guessing that even IF Tactics made it in, there wouldn't be more then one or two, let alone an entire group.

Seeing as it's unlikely anyone's getting strung up, let me say this. SeeD members were trained not to become involved in government affairs and were non affliated. Also, at the end of the game you fly around WITH THE PRESIDENT. How is this a miller?
It makes little sense to me.
Also, also, my group, stay quiet. Lets not blow our whole spot for the scum to kill us.

He's claiming a character that is in the game, almost beyond doubt. If you want to talk mechanics, I'd say that since SeeD were outlawed in the game and hunted down by the sorceress that there's a perfectly good chance for them being millers. Short of a counter-claim, I'm believing him because his game is in the opening write up.
You, on the other hand, are claiming a group of millers from a game that isn't mentioned in the opening write up. In terms of likelihood to be in the game, you are on the outside edge AT BEST. Plus, an entire group of millers? That sounds like a group of SCUM to me and I should know... I've been in enough of them.
The onus at this point in time is to come up with a viable defense for your relatively obscure, unmentioned miller group rather than attack a character who is pretty much guaranteed to be in.

I guess what really irks me is that Ramza shouldn't be a miller.
The whole point of the FF:Tactics was that the "heretic" WAS a hero, and that the supposed hero was really just a d*** who stole credit.
Although they were branded "heretics" they were viewed as saviors to the people.
Meanwhile SeeD were basically pawns of the Big Bad for the longest time. Everyone heard "SeeD...oh, that means you're working for EVIL!"
One could make the arguement that it was the same for Cloud from VII but he QUIT. He was a mercenary when the game began, a mercenary with a checkered past.
In FF8, the main character continued to work for (and get paid) by the "evil organization" because his particular branch was run by an alright guy. Who was murdered in the OP.
