THE OFFICIAL RULES (Read or Die!)

HOW TO PLAY:

ROLES: Every player has been given a role, each with it’s own abilities (or lack thereof). Your role PM will explain what it does if you are meant to know. You do not need to reveal your role to other players nor will we do so in the in-game write ups. Of course, you can choose to reveal information about your role if you wish to if you feel it would help you to reach your win condition. Jut remember that any information you reveal can also be used against you, so claiming is entirely at your own risk. If you want to use your ability, PM the mods of the game (Imarevenant; BHK1978). You may not post any part of your role PM (or anyone else's role PM you can see) in the game thread except the bit that states “Example Man, Magic Kingdom Aligned Example” or something similar.

PHASES: The game is split into two phases, Day and Night. The game begins during the day phase with all players (Town and Mafia alike) posting in the thread deciding who to lynch. Lynching is the town’s main way of eliminating mafia, so be sure to examine everything that your fellow players say in order to find inconsistencies, lies, dodgy voting patterns and anything else that could incriminate people. There may also be clues in the end of phase write ups, but relying on those is not advised as they may be veiled, misleading or otherwise unreliable. Day phases last approximately 48 hours or until a consensus is reached on who to lynch. Night phases last approximately 24 hours but may end earlier if all night activities are completed. If you have an optional ability and choose not to use it, please inform the mods via PM so that they know not to wait on your ability.

VOTING: All voting and game related discussion is to occur within the game thread. Town players may discuss who they think are Mafia, and Mafia members should be trying to avoid being lynched by bluffing and blending in and generally trying to not get lynched. To vote on anyone, post VOTE: Username (MUST BE IN BOLD!) or to vote for a No Lynch to happen then use VOTE: No Lynch and to vote for no-one you can use VOTE: No Vote. I’ll count any votes that follow that format, though for the ease of everyone playing it would be appreciated that if you change your vote that you use CHANGE VOTE: Username. I won’t count any unbolded votes, anything inside a quote, UNVOTE, or anything where I’m not sure who you are voting on. So as long as the name of the player is clear and the vote is bolded, your vote will count.

DAY PHASES: A Day Phase is over whenever a person obtains votes from more than 50% of the total number of players remaining, at which point they are lynched. It can also end if the time expires before a lynch is reached, at which point a No Lynch will be declared. There are abilities out there that can change votes such as vote manipulators, multi voters and no-voters so vote counts may not always be as they seem. When a person dies their role title will be revealed for all to see in the end of day write up.

NIGHT PHASES: Night Phases begin after a day phase has ended. During this time most abilities will be sent in to the mods (Imarevenant; BHK1978), with the Mafia usually sending in their kills while the town send in names of people they want to use their abilities on, such as investigate or protect. The night phase will end once all abilities have been sent in or when the time limit expires, at which point the mods will do a write up of the night’s activities. The write up will reveal what players have been killed any some other events that happen depending on what the mods consider important enough to be in the write ups. Whenever possible, try to get PMs into the mods as soon as possible after the start of the night phase in order to keep the game moving along at a quick pace.

Once night has ended, a new day begins and the cycle repeats itself until win conditions have been reached. The Town generally wins when there are no threats left to them; the Mafia generally wins when their numbers are equal to or greater than the remaining non-Mafia players. Remember, this is a team effort so if you think sacrificing someone may help your cause then go ahead.


GENERAL MAFIA GAME RULES:

No players are allowed to edit their posts EVER!. Whether it be to correct a typo or to remove some accidentally incriminating things someone has said, no editing of posts is allowed. While mods may choose to be lenient, the standard penalty for anyone caught editing a post is a mod kill.

All players should play to their role/alignment and play to win. While there are likely to be times that you have to do things against your best interest, any players who deliberately go against their win conditions risk being banned from future games for failing to play to their role and going against the spirit of the game.

Players are only allowed to post their role title from their role PM, that is the bit that says you are “Example Man, Magic Kingdom Aligned Example” or something similar. You can paraphrase things that the rest of your PM says but you are not allowed to directly quote anything else other than the role title from your PM, which is also the only thing players will see when you are dead. If the mods catch you posting anything that closely resembles what your role PM says then it will be grounds for a mod kill. You have been warned!

In game “role bets” such as “I will never play again if…” is strictly prohibited. If you do this then you will at minimum be replaced as soon as possible, with a maximum penalty of a mod kill. It may also lead to a ban from future games; mods don’t want players who will bet on things outside their games in order to try and prove something in a game so just don’t do it.

Though we can’t force you to post, all mods love to see active participants in their games. We advise everyone to check in at least once a day, as games can move pretty fast and it can be easy to fall behind if you are not on regularly.

Though this may also be a mafia game and we just said we want you to post, try not to postwhore in the thread too much. Where possible try to keep things relevant to the game that is being played and try not to let arguments get out of hand. This game stirs up some passionate arguments and we understand that this will happen, but if anything turns into a personal attack or veers wildly off topic then it ruins the fun for everyone. Be considerate and play nice. :)

Unless your role PM specifically states otherwise, no players are allowed to talk about their role, game plan, alignment, win condition or basically anything game related outside of the game thread. While mods can’t easily enforce this rule, any communication about the game outside of the game thread goes against the spirit of mafia games and spoils the game. Anyone caught doing this WILL be mod-killed. This is your only warning!

Once you are dead, you stay dead. You will not be allowed to participate in the game thread or continue to talk to people outside the thread that you could talk to before. So if you are a Mafia player who dies, you are NOT allowed to continue talking about the game to your Mafia team mates. No dead players will receive any extra information from the mods (Imarevenant, BHK1978) when they die either. If you are dead, try not to post anything in the game thread as anything you say could be an unnecessary distraction to those still playing, though a quick post going “Oooooooo I’m a ghost!!” is generally okay, no-one is allowed to leave cryptic messages from the dead, notes on their corpses or anything like that. If you are dead, your contribution to the game is over barring the night spaghetti.

Talking to other dead players is also frowned upon, as many games have been known to feature a revive type ability or need to have players replaced. Talking to other players outside the game means that these abilities can’t be used properly and that you can’t be used as a replacement, which can still have an impact on the game in play. So for the sake of the other players, don’t do it!

When it comes to mafia games, nothing is ever as it seems. There can be things about your role that you don’t know about, other people can bluff about their abilities, people can lie, events can happen and write ups can be read in many different ways. If you have any questions about what is happening then you can get in contact with the mods (Imarevenant; BHK1978) via PM, and if we can clarify anything for you then we will do what we can. But there are many reasons why we might not be able to, and in any such eventuality you will get a post simply stating the following -> :cool:

Day One:

It was a sunny day in the Magic Kingdom (most every day was), when the Kingdoms most popular citizen exited his humble home and decided to take a walk. He walked and walked and found himself at the pier. He loved to hear the waves crashing into the shore. When nobody was looking he often found himself assuming the role of conductor, acting as if he could control the very waves themselves. Today however he peered off into the water. He could swear he saw a dark figure in the deep waters just off the pier.

It was this deep focus that allowed him to be ambushed. Without warning he felt himself being crushed in someone’s embrace. He struggled to get free but it was no use. And then another pulled a sack over his head and he was plunged into darkness.

She waded into the water and reminisced about her old life. She wasn’t unhappy, but every so often it was good to remember where she had come from. Perhaps in her time away, she realized just how much she loved the ocean. She swam out a little further confident in her abilities in the water.

It happened quickly, the water just beneath BHK1978 turned dark. Something was down there. BHK1978 tried to swim back to shore as the figure grew bigger but it was no use. First there was a tug on the back of his leg and then a mighty pull drug BHK1978 into the deep water.

He was thrown hard onto the floor his head bouncing off the wet stone. The sack finally pulled from his head Mickey Mouse let his eyes adjust to the darkness as he heard the metal clank of the cell doors.

It was quiet for just a moment, and then he heard a familiar CAW as the figure emerged from the darkness. The tall dark fairy radiated with a eerie green glow as she stepped forward with a sinister smile on her face.

“You!” Mickey proclaimed with just a hint of anger.

She laughed as she addressed the Raven on her shoulder “Did you hear that my pet? The Mouse can get angry after all.”

Defiantly Mickey stood “You will not get away with this Maleficent! I’ve stopped you before.”

Again she laughed. “And so you have, but this time it’s not just me you’ll be dealing with” she stated as more figures emerged from the darkness, another prisoner in their grasp.

The prisoner was thrown to the ground in front of the iron bars which held the mouse captive. With the hood removed the prisoner was shone to be a woman with lips as red as a rose and hair as gold as the sunshine.

Maleficent cackled with delight. “I’m through playing games with you Mouse. This kingdom will be reborn with me the Mistress of All Evil as its queen. No more curses and spinning wheels; and I’m not here to attack your dreams” she threatened as she nodded to one of the dark figures waiting in the shadow.

Mickey held the hands of Imarevenant as the two locked eyes. The dark figure approached knife in had as Mickey’s eyes grew wide. Suddenly Imarevenant's jerked back as the figure pulled back on the fair princesses hair. Still holding Imarevenant's hand, all Mickey could do was watch in horror as the knife sliced into her neck.

Sobbing now Mickey looked up into the eyes of the dark fairy who was now smiling triumphantly.

“Goodnight Mouse” was all she said before the heavy door of the dungeon was closed and he was left in his dark cell wondering what atrocities Maleficent would bring to his Magic Kingdom.

News of Mickey’s and the two princesses disappearances spread quickly and the Magic Kingdom came together determined to find those responsible……

I'm normally against lynching on Day 1 without reason when the number of players is low and the concentration of renowned players is high.

The chances of good scum drawing out a distraction or mislynch is high as is the chance of a charismatic townie latching onto something that proves erroneous after several days and possibly a mislynch or two.

Some people like to campaign and it might be better to wait until there's something to campaign for that isn't purely conjecture.

Now, I've managed to say about 5 things in that above paragraph that would normally attract votes so let me say the following:

1. Yes, I know, Day 1 MEANS "without reason" barring a friendly Megatron incident. Therefore, draw the necessary conclusions.

2. I'm not advocating we sit and twiddle our thumbs until further notice. Simply seeing a night write-up gives us inherently valuable information like how many deaths to expect and any sort of weird paradigms we should know about. How many Day 1's involve random arguments about things that become apparent soon after (the gem people with differently colored role titles in Marvel and people being afraid of the townie survivors in VGM2 come to mind).

3. I'm not advocating we sit and twiddle our thumbs for even this day phase, but I'm also not a fan of "pressure" because "pressure" with an advertised aversion to lynching is kind of toothless. I'd rather we make wild suppositions about what stuff is in this game. What players are willing to guess at (or "guess" at) can give us hindsight when things no longer need to be guessed about. You know scum hate mentioning their characters' names early on and you KNOW some players are bad at pretending to NOT know something (if that makes sense). I doubt anything concrete will come out, but I think we stand a better chance doing something like this than randomly forcing people to claim. Plus, most of us are familiar with Disney at some level (except some weirdos in the group :p). Therefore most of us can speculate.

4. To start, I'll say out loud that I am not aware of any Disney/Pixar characters in this game. I'm from a straight-up 2D Disney movie and I think a good thing to figure out early on is what scope this game is taking. That way, scum can't randomly decide to claim Buzz Lightyear later. If you're not from what you'd consider a standard 2D Disney movie, say so. (Recent movies like The Princess and the Frog count, if you're wondering. I'd be wary of anyone claiming to be Chicken Little or something, though, but maybe I have no reason to say that.)

As for villains I am sure have a shot of being in here, in order of likelihood:

Does "last game" mean the game I'm modding? If it does, find another example because using such an example would be pretty much illegal for me to discuss (though, trust me, I'd love to).

Also, I challenge you to explain how doing something once makes all courses of action that MIGHT have similar results better? I might have scored a ringer playing horseshoes after being blinded by pickle juice, but that doesn't mean I'll be looking for pickle juice whenever I play horseshoes... (I dare you to find a weirder analogy.)

As always, I stand by my policy of saying jack on Day 1. I'm especially unwilling to cater to people who pretty much admit they'll roll the dice for the lulz.

I've already provided plenty of valid meta-reasons why I'm town and you've shown you'd rather not really talk about them but rather give specific examples of things as proof of a causal relationship (the big word centers of my brain hurt).

So, yea, we're in store for a great friendship this game. :p

Ursula - makes sense since Ariel's here. Next most likely sea villian I can think of offhand is the whale from Pinnochio

Jafar - I think I part company with you here. I would consider Scar more likely than Jafar myself. To my dismay, I've seen a lot more love for The Lion King than Aladdin over the years. Hades - Maybe. Did Hercules really get that much love? Seems a bit of an oddball choice for a game this small. Maybe another victim of the signup cut-off?

Captain Hook - I would expect to be around somewhere. Don't get much more classic than that.

Queen From Snow White - Since Maleficient seems to be acting like a Don I don't see the room for her in a game this small. Her penchant for poisons does make her a dark horse though. That could be a valuable tool if she were willing to lower herself to Maleficient. Classic candidate for a sequel game though.

Frollo - A rare case. Don't know him.

Doctor Facilier - Again don't know him but I'm guessing that's because he's from The Princess & The Frog. Haven't caught up with it yet. Possible but I wouldn't have considered him or whoever that P&tF villian was.

Cruella De Ville - Maybe but not really sure she'd be willing to play second fiddle to Maleficient.

Gaston - Could definitely be a follower. Doesn't have the rep Belle & The Beast though. But that could be a case for him being higher up the list actually. He's a prime candidate to be a foot soldier. An arrogant dimwitted lumberjack could make a good assassin for Maleficient.

Pete - The way I know Disney, he'd be town. Him and his dragon. But with so many other places to draw from, they'd have been longshots even if this game were full sized.

As for your less likelies:

The Queen of Hearts - Would seem a more likely candidate in a larger game or possibly a sequel game.

Scar - I really must emphasize that I think you underestimate his likelihood. It took years upon years for people to shut up about that movie and I still see the merch regularly when I'm browsing Disney items. I think he'd have replaced Hades had I made the list.

Shere Khan - Tend to agree. The Jungle Book, while widely regarded as a classic, seems kind of obscure for a game of this size. Wouldn't be surprised to see him as a cult leader in a larger game though.

Shan Yu - Mulan I'm guessing. Can't say I saw it. Premise didn't really appeal to me. Although in diversity terms I get while they made it. With you regarding likelihood.

Would seem like we're looking at mostly brand names and maybe titular characters in the case of townies. Unless maybe someone like Gaston snuck in based on flunky potential.

Well, it seems like animals would be less likely to be in this, but now that you say that, we know Mickey Mouse is involved. That means Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto and so on are probably here. If there are good animals, there can be evil animals too.

I still think Shere Khan would be out because, really, he's just a tiger being a tiger. Scar, at least, wants to take control of stuff.

King John and the Sheriff of Nottingham are fairly mainstream. We've got the whole cast of Alice in Wonderland to contend with; any one of those could be scum, indie, or even town.

3. I'm not advocating we sit and twiddle our thumbs for even this day phase, but I'm also not a fan of "pressure" because "pressure" with an advertised aversion to lynching is kind of toothless. I'd rather we make wild suppositions about what stuff is in this game. What players are willing to guess at (or "guess" at) can give us hindsight when things no longer need to be guessed about. You know scum hate mentioning their characters' names early on and you KNOW some players are bad at pretending to NOT know something (if that makes sense). I doubt anything concrete will come out, but I think we stand a better chance doing something like this than randomly forcing people to claim. Plus, most of us are familiar with Disney at some level (except some weirdos in the group :p). Therefore most of us can speculate.

Of course, if you didn't advertise an aversion to lynching, then your pressure wouldn't be toothless. If you consider the toothlessness to be a problem that is.

I will say that my villain made this list. I'm not certain it solidifies his appearance in the game, but it definitely leaves me wary. I'd also suggest that main role villains may not be the only ones we should keep an eye out for ... such as Smee. And I say that, because the Sheriff's name has come up, yet not Prince John or Sir Hiss. Of course, I can list off a myriad of possibilities, and it'd serve to murky the water, more than clear anything, at this juncture.

I'll be honest, I'm not quite sure. On the one hand, I can see how that particular villain could fit, role wise. Granted, it's a bit of a stretch, but I can jump to certain conclusions that would allow it to fit.

On the other hand, he sort of falls in the Queen of Hearts category. Jafar is more personal vendetta, and while this character has some of that, a la the Queen, there's also the idea of being a subordinate to someone taking over the kingdom that just doesn't fit. There's a caveat to this, but it'll reveal more than I'm ready to at this point, so I can't totally discount it. And again, it's more assumption than anything.

If I had to list a group, though, I'd probably lean more towards those who would want specific characters out of the way for personal reasons, not those who had a larger agenda. Such as Captain Hook, and the evil stepmother, Jafar, and Ursula.

There's the possibility of Monstroso in the water, though I do admit that Ursula seems more likely. The streaks of light remind me of fireworks, so that could be a Mulan thing. Growling could be any number of hyena/dog characters.

So, we have a gruff male killer with an edged weapon. That gives us a Mongol from Mulan, Frollo, Hook, Sheriff of Nottingham, Gaston, Clayton...ugh, what a list. There's an outside chance of the Black Knight from Sword in the Stone or some other movie, but I can't think of any worth mentioning. Well, there is one other, but I can see it as any number of roles, and not all necessarily scum, so I'll play it close for now.

That said, you're right. This level of sloppiness in thread awareness is shocking in such a small game. The leg work would only have required her to go back a handful of pages. There is only one circumstance where my character might be off, but it would be because of another character. And if she is that character then we need to lynch her anyways!

Lynching you isn't about fairness. We've laid out all the information and the information dictates that we should lynch you. It's part of the strategy of the game. You have to look at what you have and decide what the risks and probabilities are and then try to make the decision with the most likely favorable outcome.

If you can point us in the direction of someone else with 2 results against them and/or a less believable claim, I would take it into strong consideration. However, I think we've just about maxed out what we can ever ask for as a town from Day 2. Sometimes you get stuck with all the crap in your lap. Sometimes it's strategy, sometimes it's blind luck. Either is totally fair, especially luck. There is nothing more fair than pure chance! (Ask Harvey Dent! Oh, wait, he's a bad guy...)

I have 3 possible abilities, get a random one at the beginning of each night depending on what kind of "mood" I'm in. The one I had last night was passive.

So I decided to stay quiet, watch how things unfolded while I considered the possibilities, and see where things lay.

Someone looked into mlt, and got an evil vibe off her ...

ier received information, saying what mlt was doing ...

mlt has more than the required majority to be lynched, and is still alive ...

And that last one, coupled with everything else, is what makes the Pete claim difficult. I assume most everyone in the game is of a land based nature, either biped or four legged ... yet the intro and night one have alluded to a water based attack. And deep water, the kind of water where it's dark. And it's where we lost Astil.

If mlt did in fact target Astil, she'd assumedly be Ursula, and due to her location, probably more difficult to lynch. Leaps of logic? Sure, but with the pieces laid out, it's the only scenario I see that fits. It also lends to the fact that a group had shown up on the beach that night ... an investigation, a note sender/transmitter/etch-a-sketch gone bad, and Astil would constitute that. Sure, the risk of being wrong is there, but as things stand now, I don't see how we can be.
