View Full Version : GAMMA Take TWO
Quick Trick

I started a diary about a month ago with the GAMMA game I'm walking through. I didn't get very far because of the style I was using (it took way too much time). I've been following the UFC countdown at yahoo sports and enjoy the short recap they do of each PPV, so that's the style I'm going to use. Predictions are welcomed from GAMMA 43 and on, even though this will start from GAMMA 42. Thanks and I hope you enjoy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
GAMMA 42: Hughes vs Foster II Recap
In a night that lived up to it's much anticipated main event, GAMMA 42 from California, sported an important card that showcased some of the industry's future, elite fighters.
On the preliminary card, wrestling superstar Osmosis Benn made quick work out of Todd D'Abruzzo by way of submission. Benn bullied D'Abruzzo around for much of the first round, when he finally flattened D'Abruzzo out and ended it with a rear naked choke towards the end of the first round.
The self proclaimed "Judo God", Heikichi Shimizu likewise made quick work of his opponent. Former professional wrestler, Agustin Gonzalez had problems with Shimizu's judo throws from the opening seconds. Shimizu finished his fight via rear naked choke in the first as well.
On the main card, Canada's ruthless kick boxer, Mike Watson, continued to roll through the Light Heavyweights. He took on a very game Linfield Ballard, but Watson's superior striking helped break down Ballard in the first round, which almost came to an end with seconds to go during the first. Linfield was saved by the bell in that situation, but wasn't so lucking in the second. Watson came out guns blazing and scored with a sick head kick that knocked Linfield Ballard completely unconscious. Watson shouldn't have too many more wins to rack up before he gets a title shot.
Buddy Garner also showcased his skills by making Thomas Smith look like an amateur. The end came in the first when Garner had Smith locked in a triangle that Smith was trying to fight out of. Garner released the triangle just enough to transition to an arm bar and that was all she wrote.
Tim Boyer solidified his claim to be next in line for the Heavyweight Championship. His long, bad blooded feud finally came to a head as Rick Stanley and him got it on. Stanley looked his age in this fight, looking too slow to throw a strike or defend himself properly. Time will tell if he chooses to retire after this fight. As for Boyer, he looked solid. Boyer stopped Stanley with a nice uppercut and jumped on him for the finish.
The main event definitely lived up to the hype. Raul Hughes dropped the defending champion, James Foster within minutes of round number one and it looked like Raul was going to be a two-time Heavyweight champion. Somehow, Foster weathered the storm though and locked Hughes in a guillotine that Hughes easily broke. After a minute of nothingness on the ground, the ref ordered both men up where Foster took Hughes down easily.
That was how the first round ended.
Round two looked very similar to round one. Hughes dropped Foster again where he jumped on top and tried to end it, but once again Foster locked a guillotine on Hughes to stop the punishment. This time, Hughes didn't recognize how tight it was and ultimately passed out in the submission. It is noted that he NEVER gave up. The heart shown by both men is what GAMMA is all about. Foster retained on this night, but would he be so lucky in the future against Boyer.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fight of the Night: James Foster vs Raul Hughes
Knockout of the Night: Mike Watson
Submission of the Night: Heikichi Shimizu
After this event, it was announced that Brazilian Muay Thai specialist, Helio had signed a contract with the company.
It was also announced that Neil Napier would be defending his Middleweight Championship in April from Nevada against Matthew Dean.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quotes from the Event
(Laughing)Well I'm sorry I disappointed you so much. I don't understand why every time I lose that I'm questioned about whether or not I'll retire. I'm sorry, I still think I'm entertaining. I've got one more fight on my contract. I guess ask after that fight.
-Rick Stanley at the after fight press conference
I'm ready. I want that title. Maybe I'll talk to Wallace and Tripp and see if I can't get the title shot up in Canada.
-Mike Watson, his in ring interview after the win
Sure I'm disappointed, I had him. I had him for the second time and I couldn't finish him. But I'll be back...I look forward to Hughes vs Foster III.
-Raul Hughes at the after fight press conference
Let's face the facts, James laid on top of me for five rounds, that was the only way he beat me (the first time). Now that I have another opportunity, you'll see just how much better of a fighter I am.
-Tim Boyer at the after fight press conference
Oh, absolutely. I look forward to fighting Timmy again. He struggles very badly against wrestlers, and strikers, and any decent fighter at all. Basically Timmy is a very weak fighter, and I plan to exploit that.
-James Foster at the after fight press conference

GAMMA 43: LeToussier vs Asanovic
The Sensation of the Croatian!
Many questioned if LeToussier's strikes were going to be too much for the Light Heavyweight champion. Many questioned if LeToussier's high energy would throw off the Croatian's slow, methodical style of fighting. Many questioned if Zvonimir was the real deal.
Those questions were all put to rest!
GAMMA 43 had some interesting action happen on the undercard though. The ever so popular, Nate MacReary took a split decision victory over Milton Harvey that many considered a snooze fest. MacReary constantly went for takedowns through out the whole contest, but didn't know what to do after he got the takedown. Harvey's cardio was the big reason he lost this contest.
Leanardo da Costa continued his winning streak over Carl Ratcliffe. These two veterans of the cage put on a good, back and forth contest that saw da Costa get the better of the exchanges in light of taking his unanimous decision victory.
In what was one of the craziest fights, potentially in GAMMA's history, ex-NFL star, Norbert Vinkus took a third round TKO victory over Tony McCall. McCall absolutely killed Vinkus in the first round. All judges scored the round 10-8 in his favor. McCall dropped Vinkus in the second round with a flying knee, but was winded and could not finish. He took that round as well. In the third, Tony McCall was visibly gassed. He went for a take down, slipped face first, and it allowed Vinkus to jump on his back and hammer McCall until the fight was called. Norbert Vinkus showed tremendous heart in getting this very difficult victory.
GAMMA veteran, Dan Halvorsen picked up a win over Canada's Geoff Cahill. With both fighters having such a storied past, neither had faced each other until this point. Dan controlled this fight on the ground and dominated by keeping a very frustrated Cahill pinned to the mat for the entire fight.
Every Welterweight wants to fight against Julio Reguiero and his title, but only Darin Blood and Charles Stiles got the opportunity at GAMMA 43. It was billed as a potential fight of the year candidate, but sadly, it was anything but. The odds were against Blood in this fight, but Stiles did not show up with his "A" game. Blood controlled the fight where ever the fight went and claimed his rightful spot as number one contender for the Welterweight title.
Anthony LeToussier had never experienced a five round fight...and he had never been so badly beaten in his career. Anthony showed up in the first with everything he had, but even that wasn't enough to take it to Zvonimir. It was clear from the opening moment who the more skilled fighter was, and Zvonimir won every, single round easily. Though it wasn't the most exciting fight, it did make everyone take mention of Zvonimir as top pound for pound fighter.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fight of the Night: Norbert Vinkus vs Tony McCall
Knockout of the Night: Norbert Vinkus
Submission of the Night: Henry Baldwin
It was announced that Darin Blood would get the next title fight AFTER Julio Reguiero defended his belt against Alan Kendall in May.
In June, GAMMA will be airing a free pay-per-view quality type card on The Pop Network. The main event will be a middleweight contest between Mac Fuller vs Maarten De Vries.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quotes From the Event
He (Zvonimir Asanovic) has never fought anyone like me and when I fight him, he's in for a big shock. He can't handle my style.
-Anthony LeToussier from a pre-fight interview
He clearly kicked my ass.
-Anthony LeToussier, from the post fight press conference
(Gasping for breath)I saw an opportunity...I saw him make a mistake...and jumped on it...ugh...I'm so tired.
-Norbert Vinkus, his in ring interview after his win
Everyone counted me out and I don't know why. I saw the betting lines, it was crazy how big of an underdog I was. But I owned Charles. I'll be the underdog going into fighting whoever the champion is too, but I'll win that fight too. Then you all will take notice.
-Darin Blood, from the post fight press conference
I never lose this belt. This belt is who I am. I don't know who I fight next, but I never lose this belt.
-Zvonimir Asanovic, from the post fight press conference

GLADIATORS (DEBUT SHOW)
DOMINATION!
GAMMA gained a lot of new viewers by putting on a televised card for the first time in it's short lived history. Male viewers in the 18-35 age range tuned in, some for the very first time, to see one of GAMMA's most dominating champions to date: Sean Morrison.
Though the show only guaranteed to show three fights, six fights made it on the card that night, and all twelve fighters got national exposure.
None more so than wrestling phenom, Joshua Aldarisio. "TNT" dominated the ex-boxer, Junmal Skinner by taking him down and beating him mercifully. The ref called the fight at 1:39 of the first round. This was the night that everyone realized that Aldarisio had future superstar written all over him.
Adam White and Ashley Ballard went to war on the televised card next. This fight had all the fans standing on their feets. White won the first round by taking Ballard down and damaging him from on top. Ballard was able to avoid the takedown in the second and score with some vicious strikes. Both fighters knew going into the third round that it was anybody's fight. Ballard stuffed a take down early and pressed forward with his punches in bunches. White ducked an overhand right and scored with an uppercut of his own that knocked Ballard loopy. He jumped on top of him and brought the fight to a close, with White being the victor.
Gladiators then chose to show some of the undercard bouts. Bruce Steven beat Joel Adams by arm bar in 2:09 of Round 1, Derek South took a unanimous decision over Jethro Munter, and in a rare occurence, Simon Vine drew Joe Hinchcliffe in a pretty eventful showdown. What made the draw even more uncanny was that the bout before it between Collins Lundie and Frank Analysis also went to a draw.
The main event fulfilled it's purpose-to make Morrison look inhuman. Sean came out and speared Beau Gorshin into the cage, picked him up and slammed him. Though Beau was able to make it to his feet, the fans went crazy. Morrison took him down again about a minute later and worked some ground and pound until the ref called the fight.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fight of the Night: Ashley Ballard vs Adam White
Knockout of the Night: Josh Aldarisio
Submission of the Night: Bruce Steven
Sean Morrison was the number one search title the next day in Google from his national exposure.
It was announced that Sean Morrison's next opponent would be Bruce Steven and it would take place at the next Gladiator's card.
Boyer vs Foster II was officially announced for August, live from Illinois. Raul Hughes is also confirmed for the card.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quotes From the Event
I feel strong, I feel tough. I want to fight for the title in the future. I feel like I have the necessary tools to become champion...and stay champion for a very long time.
-Josh Aldarisio, from press conference after the fight
He hits hard, he had me seeing stars a couple times. I would love to fight him again down the road.
-Adam White, from press conference after the fight
I was winning that fight until I got caught. I wasn't listening to my corner, all I had to do was be patience...I was too aggressive. I'll have to go back and look at the video and learn from my mistakes. This is a tough loss.
-Ashley Ballard, from press conference after the fight
I just found out like the rest of you (that he's fighting Bruce Steven next), and that's fine by me. He looks legit, he's dominated his last couple of fights too. I don't think he can beat me, but I'm not going to look past him.

GAMMA 44: Dean vs Napier
POUND FOR POUND KING
Fezzik, Foster, Reguiero, Morrison, and Napier. In many people's opinions, all five fighters kept flip-flopping for number one, pound for pound fighter in the world. Neil Napier was trying to solidify his spot atop the ranking list once and for all.
The under card went on with nothing super memorable to report about. Up and coming welterweight, Evan Pizzaro finished Dana Delaney in the second with a beautiful arm bar. Stuart Strange continued his winning streak, knocking out ex-boxer Bart Diggs. And Fatuma Roy submitted Frank Sheedy while a quiet crowd looked on.
The main card was surprisingly decent.
Helio made his GAMMA debut against hard-hitting German, Lucas Mueller. The two slugged it out in the first, but both seemed exhausted after that. Helio went on to take an unanimous decision victory, though it was clear he was disappointed with his showing.
Many people thought the next fight, JJ Reid versus Greg Atteveld would be a long, boring, drawn out fight. Greg Atteveld hadn't fought in GAMMA in two years, but many still revered him as a BJJ guru who would give Reid a run for his money. JJ, who is also a black-belt in BJJ, thought differently.
It only took Reid 1:40 to make Atteveld tap. Reid loosened Greg up with strikes, took him down, and worked his way towards a match ending rear naked choke.
Kendall Tracey upset John Rivero. Rivero was only a win or two away from a title shot, but Tracey absolutely dominated his from start to finish.
Herringbone and Heath put on an exhilarating 2:51 of fighting. Heath came out with several 3 hit combos, finally landing a kick straight on Herringbone's chin. Lawrence dropped immediately, but came too as soon as he hit the canvas. Heath jumped on Herringbone, but Lawrence was able to lock on a deep guillotine that Heath had to submit to.
The main event was next. Former Middleweight champion, Matthew Dean against reigning Middleweight champion Neil Napier.
The first round saw Dean control the champion. Dean took center of the cage and landed some pretty good shots and definitely got the better of the exchanges. Napier tried for a take down at the last second of the round, but wasn't able to complete it. The second round was a little closer, but still saw Dean win that round also. The third round was were the momentum started to shift. Dean came out trying to force his will on Napier like the previous two rounds, but Napier picked up the pace. He picked Dean apart for the first round and then took him down and held him down with strikes and submission attempts for the remainder of the third. Dean looked tired and slow coming out for the fourth. Napier picked his opponent apart with combinations that had Dean baffled. The fifth and final round was all Napier. Dean was spent and didn't offer any defense for Napier's take downs. He still did enough though to not get submitted or knocked out. Dean's cardio was the reason he lost this title fight and Napier solidified his spot at the top of the mountain for the time being.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fight of the Night: Matthew Dean vs Neil Napier
Knockout of the Night: Stuart Strange
Submission of the Night: Lawrence Herringbone
The next Gladiators was announced for August. It will be headlined by GAMMA lightweight champion Sean Morrison against Bruce Steven.
To clarify an early announcement, Boyer vs Foster II from Illinois will be in June. Raul Hughes will meet Norbert Vinkus on this card. Dan Halvorsen and Josh Aldarisio are also scheduled for the event, but neither's opponents have been made.
Zvonimir Asanovic will defend his title next in September.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quote from the Event
No, I don't think I'm the pound for pound best fighter in the world. I think that's Morrison right now. Morrison dominates, I barely won tonight.
-Neil Napier, press conference after the fight
I'm going to go back to the gym and train, that sucks. I had that fight won, but I just couldn't keep up with his pace. He's on a different level.
-Matthew Dean, press conference after the fight
Heath has improved his standup. I thought that I would win that battle all night, but his combos were the best I've ever fought against.
-Lawrence Herringbone, press conference after the fight
I just defeated my hero.
-JJ Reid, post fight interview

GAMMA 45: KENDALL VS REGUIERO
CONTENDERS AND PRETENDERS!
GAMMA 45 set in motion several different fights that would transpire over the next couple of months.
The Preliminary Cards went on without much mentioning.
Up and coming submission artist Spencer Rubenstein proved to be more than Terry Catt could handle. Rubenstein decided not to finish it with his bread and butter either, he surprised every body by pounding Catt into oblivion.
Cory Brewer put his bid in for 'Knockout of the Night' when he knocked out Duane Weatherly cold. Weatherly was coming off a big win over Aaron McBroom and was trying to use that momentum to move up the ladder in the lightweight division, but Brewer threw a head kick from hell that shattered those hopes.
Procopio Golias made his much anticipated debut...though it didn't go as well as he hoped. Agustin Gonzales upset winning via split decision.
Nate MacReary won again, taking Marvin Stevens down continually until he was able to TKO Stevens in the third. The crowd booed heavily during this fight.
The Main Cardwas a huge hit!
Shimizu continued his winning ways as he finished his second GAMMA fight in the first. This time his opponent was feared Muay Thai practitioner Phil Ball. Phil decided to be aggressive in the beginning, hunting Heikichi down and actually dropping him at one point with a nice elbow. He wasn't able to finish Heikichi though, and Shimizu was able to submit Ball with an arm bar late in the first.
Bud Brockett won in a pretty convincing way over GAMMA veteran Peter Bracewell.
Patrick Thomas made his debut in style. It wasn't his most beautiful win (gassing after the first, but still able to throw effective strikes) but none-the-less, a win is a win.
Jack Humphreys was dying for another shot at the GAMMA Welterweight championship. He took on Canada's own Callum Henson, who had been also riding a strong winning streak. The first round went back and forth with Henson coming out on top by many's scorecards. The second saw Humphreys take Henson down and submitting him with a guillotine from the guard.
Julio Regueiro made real quick work of Alan Kendall. Alan looked completely out classed in the fight and Julio was able to arm bar Kendall quickly. Regueiro is on another level right now and I don't know who is going to stop him.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
FIGHT OF THE NIGHT: Callum Henson vs Jack Humphreys
KNOCKOUT OF THE NIGHT: Cory Brewer
SUBMISSION OF THE NIGHT: Heikichi Shimizu
The main event for GAMMA 48, live from California, has been made officially. Lawrence Herringbone has been named as the number one contender to the GAMMA Light Heavyweight Champion, Zvonimir Asanovic.
GAMMA 47: Boyer vs Foster II's main card has been made official as well. (See the next post for that).
The next Gladiators is taking form as well. As already has been announced, Morrison defends his GAMMA Lightweight title against Bruce Steven and Helio will take on Aaron McBroom for number one contendership.
Julio Regueiro's next opponent will be Darin Blood for the Welterweight Title.

*Many believe, with a win, Mike Watson would get the next title shot against either Herringbone or Asanovic.

GAMMA 46: FREE 4 ALL
LEAVING IT ALL IN THE CAGE
This event was extremely important for GAMMA. It was the first televised event that was suppose to 'feel' like a pay-per-view. The show did well, winning the night in it's demographic, and definitely carried over to the next PPV, GAMMA 47: BOYER VS FOSTER II.
The Preliminary Card took place with nothing too memorable happening. Only two of the preliminary fights made it onto the live card, those being Pizzarro vs Harris and Lundia vs Analysis II.
Evan Pizzarro, an up-and-coming welterweight, completely picked apart Eli Harris, the highly decorated wrestler. Evan was in complete control, where ever the fight went. Evan took an impressive unanimous decision.
Collins Lundie didn't want another long, drawn out fight with Frank Analysis. In fact, he didn't want to leave it in the judge's hands again, who last time they fought, declared the fight a draw. Lundie used his reach to score a KO victory over Analysis, then did a weird dance that has been stuck in my mind since.
Norman Pike won a boring fight over Ikuhisa Tamura, which continued his winning streak.
The Main Card of the portion was excellent! As good as free MMA can get!
Rick Stanley, fresh off his loss to Tim Boyer, took his pent up aggression out on Fletcher Merman. Stanley destroyed Merman during the first, looking well spent at the conclusion of it. That didn't take away from his momentum, as the ref called the fight only 0:35 seconds of the second. Stanley nailed Merman with a straight left that floored him, and he didn't hesitate in jumping on top of him to finish the action. Good win for Stanley.
David Allen looked convincing with his win over GAMMA veteran Joe Hinchcliffe. The first was a good, back and forth fight that had Allen edging out the round by strikes. The second was also back and forth, Allen dropped Hinchcliffe half way through the round and spent the rest of the round trying to finish him off. The ending didn't come until there was four seconds left in the second. That's when Hinchcliffe tapped due to a guillotine.
Adam White scored with a running knee within seconds of the opening bell against the Desert Storm veteran, Thomas Smith. It put Smith on his back while White pounded feverishly to get the 'w'. The ref finally called the fight a little over the one minute mark.
In the most one sided fight of the night, Mike Watson absolutely killed Christian Mountfield. Many were surprised that the ref didn't call the fight in the first after Watson dropped Mountfield twice and had him in a turtle position, not defending himself. Somehow,Christian made it to the second, only to be knocked completely out by a high kick. It took the medics about two minutes to bring him back. Watson talked about getting a title shot next, and after seeing this kind of destruction, I agree.
The main event did not disappoint. The bad blood between De Vries and Fuller reached it's boiling point as soon as the opening bell rang. Both fighters were in each other's face, throwing everything but the kitchen sink. De Vries got the better of the opening minutes and bloodied Fuller up, breaking his nose at some point in the first. The second was also a knocked down, drag out. Both opponent's cardio was unreal in this fight. Fuller surprised De Vries during this round with a take down attempt that worked momentarily. Had he been able to secure the take down, he would have probably won that round, as it was very close. The third round was close as well, De Vries started to show his fatigue, while Fuller's nose and left hand were giving him problems. When the final bell rang, both men hugged each other and showed each other respect after waging war together. De Vries took a unanimous decision and many thought he would be getting a chance to win back his Middleweight Title, but there was some roadblocks that would derail De Vries for a little bit.

FIGHT OF THE NIGHT: Maarten De Vries vs Mac Fuller
KNOCKOUT OF THE NIGHT: Mike Watson, Rick Stanley
SUBMISSION OF THE NIGHT: David Allen
*The next TV special of Gladiators has been finalized. Shimizu has been added to the Live special as well as Anthony LeToussier vs Mark Cohen. (See next post for full card)
*ALPHA-1 fighter and ex-GAMMA fighter, Leon Banks was shown at the event several times. Many are wondering if Banks might be coming back to fight in the states.
*Linfield Ballard vs Ken Peters and Lucas Mueller vs Luke Hilton have been added to GAMMA 48: Herringbone vs Asanovic, LIVE from California.
*Two announcements were made about GAMMA's MIDDLEWEIGHT Title. First was that GAMMA 49 from New Jersey, Neil Napier would be defending his title against Stuart Strange. The second announcement was that whoever won that main event, would face number one contender Maarten De Vries.
*Many higher ups in the GAMMA office are expecting huge numbers from GAMMA 47: BOYER VS FOSTER II. That would be the reason you saw the commercial for the event forty billion times.
*Three days after this event, the drug results came back for all the fighters who participated at GAMMA 46. It was reported that Maarten De Vries had failed his drug test and had tested positive for steriods. Mark Wallace has confirmed that he has suspended De Vries and wants all his fighters to know that drugs will not be tolerated in GAMMA.

GAMMA 47: BOYER VS FOSTER II
The Story Going Into The Event
*GAMMA is wanting this show to be the biggest show they've put on to date. They made sure by putting Boyer, Foster, Hughes, Vinkus, Halvorsen, Aldarisio, Garner, and Reid
*Of course, the main story going into this event is the main event. Boyer beat Hughes after Hughes had beaten Foster for the title back in 1996. A Boyer vs Foster fight took place inevitably with Foster besting Boyer the whole fight via ground and pound. Both fighters have improved immensely since their last fight, so it will be interesting to see which fighter prevails.
*Hughes vs Vinkus is being billed as Aggression (Hughes) vs Heart (Vinkus). Hughes is known to go balls-to-the-walls during his fights where Vinkus is able to withstand a ton of punishment and still pull out a win.
*Since De Vries has been suspended thanks to a little performance enhancing euphoria, JJ Reid vs Buddy Garner will be for the #1 Contendership for the GAMMA Middleweight Title.

GAMMA 47: BOYER VS FOSTER II
DID IT LIVE UP TO IT'S HYPE?
The first show ever from Illinois, which had several hometown favorites on the card (Foster, Hughes, and Halvorsen), and the Pay-Per-View being built up as the biggest event in GAMMA's history-surely with all this hype, there's no way it could have been that good. Right?
The PRELIMINARY CARD started off the program featuring several up-and-comers.
Beau Gorshin got back to his winning ways (after his loss to Sean Morrison) with a unanimous win over the young, Jamie Hewitt. The crowd booed heavily during the fight, most likely because Beau could never finish Hewitt off, but this fight proved just how valuable experience is.
Christopher Sharp got his victory with one second left in the first round. Trash talking, Tony McCall tried most valiantly to not tap to an extra deep rear naked choke. With his face turning purple and Sharp squeezing tighter, McCall had no other choice.
The MAIN CARD was the whole reason the fans everywhere spent their hard earned dollars.
Buddy Garner took on JJ Reid in the opening bout for #1 contender ship for the Middleweight title. With both fighters being black-belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, many thought that the ground game would be canceled out. This didn't prove to be the case, as Buddy Garner showed fans everywhere that his jiu-jitsu was on a whole other level. Garner consistently kept taking Reid down and maintaining him there with vicious elbows, knees to the ribs, and submission attempts. He easily got an unanimous decision victory over Reid and showed whoever he faced for the Middleweight Title that he meant business.
Dana Delaney's whole point in this fight was SUPPOSE to make Josh Aldarisio look good. Many predicted a first round victory for Aldarisio via ground-and-pound. Somehow, Delaney never got the script for how this fight was suppose to go down. Delaney was in Josh's face the whole time throwing bombs, showing off his good take down defense, and by matching Aldarisio's insane cardio. Even though Dana did all of this, Josh Aldarisio is a prodigy. After he found out that his take downs were not working and that all he was doing was tiring himself out, he show cased his striking abilities which we had not seen up until this point (unless he had a grounded opponent). Aldarisio surprised everybody by matching blow for blow with Delaney. No other fight came close to Fight of the Night. Aldarisio scored a unanimous 29-28 victory over a very disappointed Dana Delaney.
Dan Halvorsen fought GAMMA fan favorite Simon Vine next. The fight was not a memorable one to say the least, at least in the aspect we would think. Halvorsen repetitively shot in for a take down, but looked very slow in doing so letting Vine stuff it every time. Vine was able to enforce his will on Halvorsen for 15 minutes to pick up the win. Halvorsen got on the mic after wards and said that he always wanted to fight his last fight in Illinois and announced his retirement from competition there on the spot. The crowd gave him a standing ovation and it was one of the few emotional moments ever in MMA's history.
Raul Hughes might have been the most popular man in the building at the end of his Norbert Vinkus fight. Hughes was so explosive, consistently hammering Vinkus with rights and lefts that dropped Vinkus multiple times in the first. Much like Vinkus's last fight though, Hughes also could not finish him. The bell sound for the end of the first and cameras zoomed in on an exhausted Norbert Vinkus. His right eye was almost completely swollen over, which led the 12,000+ fans in attendence to ooohhhh and awwwww. Hughes came out in the second just as intense as the first. Vinkus was offering almost no defense at all and commentary several times said that if the ref didn't chime in and stop the fight, Vinkus was going to get seriously hurt. Unfortunately, the little ear piece in the ref's ear is not linked to the commentary, because Vinkus got knocked silly half way through the second. Hughes landed an awesome, jaw-rattling uppercut and an inadvertent punch to the back of the head that left Vinkus nothing more than a pile of rubble. Hughes actually looked concerned for Vinkus after the fight, but he came to and Hughes gave his normal, charismatic interview after wards.
The main event that was built up for several months as the biggest rematch ever only took 80 seconds to decide. James Foster rushed into Tim Boyer, took him down, and pounded Boyer until the ref stepped in. Foster destroyed Boyer for the second time! He said in the post fight interview that he wasn't sure who was left to challenge him for the GAMMA Heavyweight title.
It was a good ending to a great event, the Illinois crowd was wonderful!

FIGHT OF THE NIGHT: Dana Delaney vs Josh Aldarisio
KNOCKOUT OF THE NIGHT: Raul Hughes
SUBMISSION OF THE NIGHT: Christopher Sharp
*Raul Hughes and Tim Boyer got into an altercation at the post fight interviews. Boyer challenged Hughes to a fight which was well received from the journalist that were there. This would be the second fight between the two as Boyer defeated Hughes in 97' for the GAMMA Heavyweight Title.
*GAMMA 48: Herringbone vs Asanovic has been made official. The final line-up will be revealed in the next post. The event will go on LIVE from California in September.
*October's PPV, GAMMA 49: Strange vs Napier, has had a couple more fights added to it as well. Jack Humphreys will take on David Allen as both possess a decent winning streak going into the event. Patrick Thomas and Norman Pike have also been confirmed.
*Dan Halvorsen has publicly admitted he will retire. He will more likely be hired on as a commentator. Norbert Vinkus announced about a week after this event that he was done fighting as well.
*Maarten De Vries has planned on appealing his alleged steroid use before GAMMA officials sometime in the next month.
*GAMMA will keep the tradition of there New Year's Eve card that will take place on December 31st of 1999. This year's event will be the sixth installment of 'New Year's Revolution' and it will be live from California. Darin Blood vs Julio Regueiro have been rumored as the main event for the GAMMA Welterweight Title.

PRELIMINARY RESULTS
Shuler Eigenberg defeats Sammy Newton via TKO in 0:29 of Round 1
Shuler sees no point in playing around with Newton in his debut by dropping him with a hard right within thirty seconds of the first round and pummeling him until the ref stops him.
Agustin Gonzalez defeats Manuel Silva via submission in 2:36 of Round 1
Gonzalez upsets the heavily favored Silva in Silva's debut by making him tapout via triangle choke in the first.
Wilson Franklyn defeats Gareth Grundy via TKO in 2:29 of Round 1
The former body guard just destroyed Grundy with strikes again in the first.
Derek South defeats Gempachi Higa via UD
South controlled the fight from beginning to end. Strong win for South.
Souleymane Ya Konan defeats Frank Sheedy via KO in 0:19 of Round 3
Ya Konan lost the first round by Sheedy's takedowns. He gassed a bit though in the second and gets taken out by a sick head kick in the third.
MAIN CARD RESULTS
Heikichi Shimizu defeats Bret Clement via submission in 2:36 of Round 2
Shimizu continues to wow the GAMMA fans with another impressive submission victory. The Judo God choked out Clement via Rear Naked Choke.
Fatuma Roy defeats Tank Manu'a via UD
Boring fight that should have never made it's way on to TV.
Anthony LeToussier defeats Mark Cohen via KO in 4:52 of Round 1
Live Wire said it wouldn't get out of the first!!! Cohen really seemed out of his element in this fight. He was way too slow and could tell that age has not been friend. LeToussier knocks him completely out with 8 seconds left via left handed uppercut.
Helio defeats Aaron McBroom via KO in 3:47 of Round 2
Very good fight that went back and forth. Helio's got vicious Muay Thai. He gets a good plum on McBroom and hammers three knees to the face before KOing him. Helio was announced after the event as the number one contender to the GAMMA Lightweight Belt.
Sean Morrison defeats Bruce Steven via TKO in 3:47 of Round 1 to Retain his GAMMA LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE
Morrison owned Steven! 2 Takedowns and a ton of ground and pound and that's all she wrote! It will be interesting to see if Helio will be able to utilize his strikes against Morrison's superior wrestling.
Attendance: 4,577
Fight of the Night: Helio vs Aaron McBroom

GAMMA 48: HERRINGBONE VS ASANOVIC
San Jose, California
Preliminary Results
Spencer Rubenstein defeats Justin Brannagh via UD
Spencer looked really sharp in this fight, never giving Brannagh a chance to gain any momentum.
Osmosis Benn defeats Vagner via submission in 2:57 of Round 1
The sky is the limit for this young wrestler. Benn threw Vagner around the cage for finishing him with a guillotine choke.
Keith Plaice defeats Haranobu Oshiro via SD
Very close fight that could have went either way. A very surprising fight. Oshiro won the first, Plaice the second, and the third could have went either way.
Francisco Jimenez defeats Duane Weatherly via KO in 1:11 of Round 1
Very brutal knock out. The Weather Man was out for a good minute. Weatherly ducked a right hook but got caught by a knee. Very sick knock out.
Kurt McDonald defeats Milton Harvey by TKO in 0:28 of Round 2
Word on the street is that GAMMA has very high expectations for "Chopper". He lived up to them tonight with a very convincing win over the veteran, Harvey.
Callum Henson defeats Lloyd McAllister via UD
A very good win for the Canadian, Henson.
MAIN CARD RESULTS
Adam White defeats Bixente Fontaine via submission in 2:46 of Round 1
White continues his push through the middleweight division by taking out the Frenchman, Fontaine. White is so well rounded that he got the better of Fontaine wherever the fight went. He finished with an armbar at 2:46.
Procopio Golias defeats Charles Stiles via UD
Considered by many to be an upset. Stiles was lazy and slow in this fight and let the smaller Golias bully him around. It's back to the drawing board for Stiles and a good win for Golias.
Linfield Ballard defeats Ken Peters via TKO in 0:46 of Round 3
Ballard was losing this fight in a pretty convincing way. Peters was using his wrestling to tire Ballard out but tired himself out as well. Ballard, knowing he was losing the fight going into the third, threw caution to the wind and came out balls to the wall. A flurry of punches landed and a nice body kick drop Peters, and Ballard was able to move in for the kill. Great fight and great win.
Lucas Mueller defeats Luke Hilton via TKO in 4:49 of Round 1
Maybe the funnest match of the year. They both came out just throwing bombs, some connecting and most not. Both stayed in the pocket though and weathered the beatings that the other opponents for throwing out. At times Hilton looked to be moments from ending it, then it would turn around and Mueller would have Hilton dazed and confused. Finally, Mueller nails a nice elbow from the clinch that drops Hilton and finished him from there. The fans gave a standing ovation for both fighters. Wow!!!
John Rivero defeats Ricky Heath via submission in 3:26 of Round 3
Great win for Rivero as he looked very strong. Heath put up a good fight but fell victim to the rear naked choke of Rivero in the third.
Zvonimir Asanovic defeats Lawrence Herringbone via TKO in 0:44 of Round 1 to RETAIN THE GAMMA LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
It sucks it was over so quickly. A one, two combination with fists and a leg kick that brushed the top of Herringbone's head was the whole fight (with of course the finish up punch after the initial drop). Asanovic looks like such a strong champion right and is picking the division apart, one by one.
ATTENDANCE: 9,003
Fight of the Night: Luke Hilton vs Lucas Mueller
Knockout of the Night: Linfield Ballard, Francisco Jimenez
Submission of the Night: Adam White
ANNOUNCEMENTS
*GAMMA 51: New Year's Revolution 6 has a couple of more fights added to it. The major news being that James Foster will defend his title against Rick Stanley for the main event. Regueiro and Blood had already been confirmed for the Welterweight title and newly signed Leon Banks will make his debut on the card against GAMMA veteran, Mark Cohen. GAMMA 51 will be held as usually on New Year's Eve, December 31st, 1999.
*Some people are disappointed with Stanley getting the shot when he has lost two of this last three. The sad fact is that there is very little depth in the Heavyweight division at this point so Stanley was the only one who made sense on the biggest card of the year. Also, whether Stanley wins or loses, he's never had a boring fight.
*GAMMA 50: Grudge Fight is coming together quite nicely. This will be the first event in GAMMA's history to be held from the great state of Ohio. The card will feature Raul Hughes vs Tim Boyer II, Mike Watson vs Anthony LeToussier, Matthew Dean vs Buddy Garner, and much more.
*It's believed that whoever wins the Watson/LeToussier match at GAMMA 50 will face Asanovic for the title.
*The first couple event venues for the year 2000 have been confirmed. Interestling enough, it looks like GAMMA is trying to have more and more events from the very pro MMA region of Las Vegas, Nevada.
January-Las Vegas, Nevada (Gladiators: Helio vs Morrison rumored)

GAMMA 49: STRANGE VS NAPIER

PRELIMINARY RESULTS
Kyle Sagal defeats Min-Soo Sik via UD
Sagal seems to be a very accomplished wrestler. Kind of a boring fight to watch, but impressive debut for Sagal.
Manuel Silva defeats Phil Ball via UD
Silva bounces back from his first loss to dominate Ball. Props to Ball though, Silva could not put him away. Silva's definitely got a future in this division.
Fletcher Merman defeats Nate MacReary via submission in 2:31 of Round 2
Just because you can take an opponent down doesn't mean you should be an MMA fighter. Hopefully MacReary realizes this after this fight. MacReary's other victories have come by UD by simply taking opponents down and staying on top of them. Merman was a great opponent for MacReary as he had been working very hard with BJJ master, Greg Atteveld for this fight. Merman wins in the second with a triangle choke.
Ed Burridge defeats Bart Diggs via submission in 4:11 of Round 2
Nice debut win for Burridge. He surely didn't want to stand with Diggs, so he kept trying to take him down and work a submission. He finishes strong with an americana that makes Diggs tap.
Doug Hansen defeats Geoff Cahill via UD
Scotland's Judo ace, Doug Hansen makes an impressive debut with a win over GAMMA vet, Geoff Cahill.
Anderson Desailly defeats Cory Brewer via KO in 3:18 of Round 1
Another debut and another win. GAMMA has high hopes for this kid. Jumping knee ends this fight in the first.
MAIN CARD RESULTS
Jerry Bogdonovich defeats Kendall Tracey via TKO in 0:46 of Round 2
Many people looked at the main card of this event and thought, why in the world is Bogdonovic and Tracey (two no names) on the main card. They showed us why in a very entertaining match. Who knows who won the first. It was very back and forth, back and forth. Bogdonovich though comes out in the second landing bomb and bomb, making the ref stop the match making Tracey very unhappy.
Norman Pike defeats Jack Cobblepot via TKO in 1:20 of Round 3
Pike looked great. We all know Cobblepot has an iron chin, but man. His face has to be one of the most gruesome aftermaths of a fight in GAMMA history. The ref finally stops the bludgeoning in the third.
Ashley Ballard defeats Leonardo da Costa via UD
In a fight that was very important for the middleweight division, Ballard edges out a win over da Costa. Hardly anyone gave Ballard a chance against the jiu-jitsu wizard, but he displayed an array of takedown defense and submission defense to keep the fight standing.
Patrick Thomas defeats Carl Ratcliffe via TKO in 4:12 of Round 2
Patrick Thomas may be the scariest fighter in GAMMA. He looks like a heavyweight fighting in the middleweight division. His hands are heavy and he looks immoveable. Ratcliffe, a widely experienced veteran, had no clue what to do with him. Thomas wins in the second even though he looked like he would pass out from exhaustion. That might be his one weakness, cardio.
Jack Humphreys defeats David Allen via submission in 2:48 of Round 3
Humphreys wants another stab at the title and became a step closer with a win over David Allen. Allen had strung many victories together and many considered this fight a number one contendership fight (with the winner fighting the winner of the Reguiero/Blood fight in December). Humphreys displayed a vicious, aggressiveness that GAMMA fans had not seen before. He finishes the fight in the third via americana.
Neil Napier defeats Stuart Strange via UD to RETAIN THE GAMMA MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE
Domination by the pound for pound, best fighter in the world. Nothing else can really be said besides Strange didn't have a chance.
ATTENDANCE: 9,192
Fight of the Night: Kendall Tracey vs Jerry Bogdonovich
Knockout of the Night: Anderson Desailly

GAMMA 50: GRUDGE FIGHT
Cincinnati, Ohio
PRELIMINARY MATCHES
Naizen Hamacho defeats Peter Bracewell via UD
Pretty boring fight to lead off the restless Ohio crowd. Sorry Buckeyes.
Adrian Pascal defeats Drew Jenks via TKO in 3:25 of Round 3
Pascal is huge for a Light Heavyweight. He looks like he could step up to Heavyweight and hang with the big boys. He didn't let Drew Jenks (an Olympic alternate for Team USA during the 96 Olympics) bully him around with wrestling. It instead saw Pascal taking Jenks down and hammering him viciously. Ref stops the fight in the third.
Ray Eton defeats Bruno Epp via SD
Really, the fight could have went either way. Great back and forth fight that showcased both Epps and Eton's different styles. Eton wins by hair.
Ikuhisa Tamura defeats Jesse Singh via TKO in 1:19 of Round 1
Jesse Singh, welcome to GAMMA. Ikuhisa finished Jesse quick with a barrage of punches. Good first round stoppage for the fighter from Japan.
Josh Aldarisio defeats Cooper Richardson via TKO in 1:03 of Round 1
Aldarisio is going to be a force in the Welterweight division. It's sad seeing him on the undercard. One take down and twelve elbows later, Aldarisio pickups the win.
Ari Peltonen defeats Collins Lundie via UD
Peltonen stayed away from Lundie's jab and forced his game plan of clinch work to pick up the win. Lundie's breed of one style of fighting is quickly dying off in the ever evolving sport of mixed martial arts.
MAIN CARD RESULTS
Adam White defeats Ethan Sutton via UD
Complete, one-sided domination from White. Sutton stayed in there until the end, but it was clear that he was very much outclassed. Another win for White and he moves up the ladder towards a Middleweight title fight.
Bud Brockett defeats Tarcisio Dantas via UD
Brockett shows that experience goes further than strength. Dantas showed up looking like a welterweight and tried early to bully Brockett. Bud used his wrestling to keep Dantas guessing and this fight showcased his improvement in the stand up part of his arsenal. Brockett called out the winner of the Morrison/Helio fight and I say why not.
Xie Ming defeats Lloyd McAllister via KO in 2:29 of Round 1
Xie makes a huge debut via flying knee. McAllister was out, I mean out. If Ming keeps his performances like this one, he's sure to be a fan favorite for years to come.
Buddy Garner defeats Matthew Dean via submission in 1:30 of Round 2
You hate to see fights like this. Dean was destroying Garner throughout the first and actually dropped Garner in the second. He jumped on top of Garner without being cautious and got caught in an armbar. Dean was highly disgusted with his performance and ran out of the cage as soon as the lost. Garner might be able to make a notion for a title shot with a win over Dean.
Mike Watson defeats Anthony LeToussier via KO in 1:45 of Round 2
Watson stuck with a game plan of 3 hits stick and run away. He mixed up every possible combination imagineable and made sure he threw in 3 hit multiples. LeToussier was lost. He couldn't find Watson's timing. He took a nice hard body shot and then a left straight that knocked him out. Watson called out Asanovic after the fight.
Raul Hughes defeats Tim Boyer via TKO in 3:11 of Round 2
Man, did the Buckeyes hate Boyer and love Hughes. Everyone was on their feet for pretty much the entire fight. Hughes dropped Boyer in the first with a hard right, but Boyer regained his composure and tried to utilize his reach towards the end of the round. Hughes was just relentless though in round two. Hughes pinned Boyer up against the cage and used some dirty boxing to force the ref to call the fight. That's now 1 for Boyer and 1 for Hughes, I look forward to Hughes vs Boyer III.

Fight of the Night: Hughes vs Boyer
Knockout of the Night: Mike Watson
Submission of the Night: Buddy Garner

GAMMA 51: NEW YEAR'S REVOLUTION 6
San Jose, California
PRELIMINARY RESULTS
Inejiro Chiba defeats Jethro Munter via TKO in 1:09 of Round 2
Newly signed and ALPHA-1 veteran, Inejiro Chiba, brought his experience to the US for the first time. He struggled a bit in the beginning of the first, actually being dropped by a flash knockout. He recovered quickly and went on to dominate round one and finish early in round 2.
Niko Soldo defeats Bryan Van Den Hauwe via TKO in 0:28 of Round 3
The Gladiator makes a huge debut. His kicks are thunderous. He finishes the fight in the third via kick to the body that has the ref call the fight. Wonderful debut for Soldo. He's going to be a force to be reckoned with.
Osmosis Benn defeats Greg Atteveld via TKO in 1:58 of Round 3
Good back and forth fight that felt more like wrestling versus jiu-jitsu than he did Benn vs Atteveld. Benn would take Atteveld down with ease (which it might have been Atteveld allowing it since he has such great jiu-jitsu) and it would be a chess game from there on out. Benn finishes Atteveld after solid punch that knocked Atteveld out for a second. The opening allowed Benn to follow up and finish.
Shuler Eigenberg defeats Francisco Jimenez via TKO in 4:22 of Round 1
Great fight between two young, exciting lightweights. They both went balls to the wall with Eigenberg finally getting the better of the combinations and forcing the ref to stop the fight.
Nicolai Mickiewics defeats Bill Cumming via UD
Nicolai was a Silver medalist in wrestling for Team Belarus in the 96' Olympics and showed how he won that medal in this fight. He constantly took Cumming down but that was the extent of it. With training, Nicolai could be a force in the Light Heavyweight division.
Steve Mason defeats Khru Duangjan via UD
What a slugfest? A bloody slugfest! The canvas was covered with each other's blood from the first round. Mason was bleeding heavily from his nose and a cut under his left eye. Khru was bleeding bad from an elbow on the top of his head. Great fight with both having their moments. Mason takes a nice unanimous decision victory in his debut in the States.
MAIN CARD RESULTS
Anderson Desailly defeats Lucas Mueller via UD
Anderson was just too much for the German. Mueller tried to slow Desailley down, but Anderson's speed is crazy. Anderson worked from the clinch a lot which might have been the decision in this fight.
Christopher Sharp defeats Wilson Franklyn via submission in 4:22 in Round 2
Franklyn might be the unluckiest guy in all the world. He had things going his way until the end of the second. He killed Sharp in the first with his strikes and was winning the second until he dropped Sharp and didn't move in with enough caution. He was caught rather quickly in a triangle choke and that was all she wrote. Sharp with another, consistent win in the weak heavyweight division.
Leon Banks defeats Mark Cohen via TKO in 3:20 of Round 1
Cohen might have fought his last fight. He's lost several in a row and looks so sluggish out there. Not to trample on Banks's parade, but he was out there a little over three minutes and was gassed after that. GAMMA will be hoping for more out of Banks after tonight's showing.
Alan Kendall defeats Simon Vine via UD
Alan Kendall and Simon Vine put on a real treat for the crowd. They stood and slugged it out, when on the ground and rolled around, and reversed almost every submission move attempted. Kendall did a little more damage in rounds 1 and 3 and dominated the center of the cage for the majority of the fight. Good win for Kendall, he'll be looking to get another title shot against the Welterweight champion.
Julio Regueiro defeats Darin Blood via Submission in 4:54 of Round 2 to RETAIN THE GAMMA WELTERWEIGHT TITLE
Regueiro looked like he was playing on a whole different level. His punches were quick, his footwork was confusing, and his takedowns were unstoppable. Blood deserved to be there though as he weathered attack after attack. There's only so much you can do with an opponent like Reguiero. Reguiero locks on a rear naked choke with seconds to go in round 2. Who knows whose next for the champ. Possibly Regueiro/Humphreys II.
James Foster defeats Rick Stanley via TKO in 1:53 of Round 1 to RETAIN THE GAMMA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
Short work tonight for Foster (I wonder how much he made a second). One takedown at 0:30 seconds and then relentless ground-n-pound. Let's face it, even though Stanley is an exciting fighter, he had no business being in this fight tonight. The crowd ate it up though. Stanley says in his post fight interview that he might retire, Foster says he'll take on anybody.
ATTENDANCE: 12,764 (NEW RECORD)

ANNOUNCEMENTS
*The debut episode of the Next Big Thing will be the third week in January.
*It's very possible that Rick Stanley could retire after his fight with Foster tonight. He very much looked his age.
*It looks like Norman Pike will be the next heavyweight to challenge Foster for his title, possibly sometime in March or April. As far as the Welterweight title goes, Humphreys or Xie Ming will get that shot and it won't be until the summer more than likely.

GLADIATORS: HELIO VS MORRISON
January 19th, 2000
Las Vegas, Nevada
PRELIMINARY RESULTS
Kenneth Toadspew defeats Bret Clement via Submission in 4:59 of Round 3
The Aussie with the craziest nickname had one of the craziest endings to date. "Spew Monkey" locks on a guillotine with less than ten seconds to go and actually gets Clement to tap before the final buzzer goes off. Great debut for this kid.
Aaron McBroom defeats Lima Friga via TKO in 2:58 of Round 3
McBroom looked good after his last couple of disappointing outings. Friga is by no means a top contender, but it's a step in the right path. Punches in bunches in the third and the ref calls the fight.
Stephen de Winter defeats Bixente Fontaine via Unanimous Decision
This de Winter kid looks mean. Physically imposing at 185, de Winter picked apart Fontaine and got an unanimous 30-27 victory.
Kurt McDonald defeats Gareth Grundy via KO in 0:22 of Round 2
McDonald could be a real force in the Heavyweight division. He made short work of Grundy. He just about finished him in the first, but lacked the killer instinct. A knee to the head in the second though put Grundy away for good.
Tony McCall defeats Fatuma Roy via Unanimous Decision
A lot of people were surprised McCall won this, me being one of them. He outwrestled Roy in a lackluster fight to get the 'w'.
MAIN RESULTS
Linfield Ballard defeats Jerry Bogdonovich via KO in 0:25 of Round 3
Knock down, drag out. These guys put it all on the line. Bogdonovich knocked Ballard silly early in the second, but the Big Dog was able to keep his composure and weather the storm. Humungous head kick in the third by Ballard knocks Jerry completely unconscious. Great win for Ballard.
JJ Reid defeats Keith Plaice via Submission in 1:36 of Round 1
Reid made it look easy. Win via armbar in the first.
Bruce Steven defeats Benny Danare via Unanimous Decision
Steven comes back after his loss to Morrison by taking a unanimous decision over a very tough and young Benny Danare. Steven climbs right back up the ladder towards another title shot.
Ashley Ballard defeats Mac Fuller via Unanimous Decision
Ashley, why can't you be more like your brother? Oh, because your fighting a man who doesn't know the meaning of quit. Fuller hung in there even though he was extremely out matched. He showed a lot of heart, but unfortunately, showing heart and getting your butt kicked usually mean taking a loss, and that's what Fuller did.
Sean Morrison defeats Helio via TKO in 3:22 of Round 1 TO RETAIN THE GAMMA LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Whose left for Morrison in the Lightweight division. Solid win for him over Helio (who I never believed for a moment was the number one contender). Quick takedown and ruthless ground and pound until the ref stepped in.
ATTENDANCE: 5, 962
Fight of the Night: Ballard vs Bogdonovich
Knockout of the Night: Linfield Ballard
Submission of the Night: JJ Reid
ANNOUNCEMENT:
*The debut of The Next Big Thing will follow after this edition of Gladiators.
*Talk is circulating around that Sean Morrison's next opponent may be...Welterweight Champ, Julio Regueiro. This would be a huge fight for not only GAMMA, but MMA as a whole...A super fight for the ages. No further details at this time.
*It is official, James Foster will fight Norman Pike for the GAMMA Heavyweight title from New Jersey in March. Pike has steam rolled through several heavyweight contenders as of late and definitely deserves this shot. A couple of debuts will take place on that card as well: Russian standout, Aleksander Ivanov and BCF veteran, Doug Hansen.
*Expect Mike Watson vs Zvonimir Asanovic to headline a GAMMA PPV either in April or May.

THE NEXT BIG THING
Episode One Recap
*Matt Tripp, Mark Wallace, and Scott Avatar are looking for the Next Big Thing. The next fighter who is going to be a GAMMA legend and follow in the footsteps of Dan Halvorsen, James Foster, Sean Morrison, Raul Hughes, or Zvonimir Asanovic. Their journey to find the Next Big Thing will take them all over the US, even to Canada and Mexico. They want you to join them over the next several weeks in their attempt to find the next break through fighter at 170 pounds.
*It shows the three going to a bunch of amateur and semi-professional MMA contests. Certain GAMMA fighters make cameos such as Dan Halvorsen, James Foster, Buddy Garner, Greg Atteveld, Julio Regueiro, and Rick Stanley.
*They have selected 16 fighters that they would consider putting on the show. They decide that the fighters should have to fight there way onto the program.
Here are the 8 fighters who won and will be competing in the 8 man tournament to crown the Next Big Thing at the finale in May:
-Randy "Super Snake" Carsley
-"Black Superman" Nathan Chambers
-Houston "Furious" George
-"The Unbreakable" Gideon Navarro
-Rich "Hard Rain" Robinson
-"The Sewer Rat" Ronnie Allen Taylor
-"The Flying V" Esteban Vega
-Brock "The Spark Plug" Youdale
*The narrator then comments how each week they will watch one of the contestants train and then a GAMMA fighter will be flown in to help that fighter train.

THE NEXT BIG THING
Episode Two
*This week's show will focus on "Black Superman" Nathan Chambers. Mark Wallace, Matt Tripp, and Scott Avatar head on up to Tacoma, Washington. Snow is everywhere as they film.
*Nathan explains how he is a full time fighter and how he works and trains out of Dan Halvorsen's gym in Chicago when he's not training up in Washington. He explains how great it is to work beside Dan and other great fighters like James Foster, Drew Jenks, and Josh Aldarisio.
*Nathan has won several different Kickboxing tournament all over the US and two different tournaments in Canada. He was forced to make a decision between Kickboxing and MMA, and decided on MMA because he wanted to be near his family. He explains that the popularity of Kickboxing has dwindled with the US crowds and is more popular over in Europe and Japan, and he didn't want to be traveling like crazy.
*Nathan feels that his training at Halvorsen's has really rounded his game. He doesn't feel like his wrestling skills are where they should be, but he knows enough to be dangerous on the ground as well. He says, "Make no mistake about it, I want to keep a fight standing as I feel I have superior striking skills."
*Half way through the broadcast, Mike Watson drops by to help train Nathan. Mike says that they are a lot like in how Kick Boxing is their bread and butter, but Mike says that if Nathan wants to be a competant MMA fighter, he will have to be a jack of all trades.
*They train, and then Nathan talks some more. He says he's never had a professional MMA fight, although he sports a 5-0, amateur record, with 4 of those wins being by TKO/KO. His amateur kick boxing record is 26-2-2 and his professional kick boxing record is 3-0. He says he knows he has what it takes to be the Next Big Thing.
NEXT WEEK on THE NEXT BIG THING
The focus will be on Houston George as he trains to become the Next Big Thing.

-THOUGHTS ON THE EVENT-
This was the second free Pay Per View quality show to air on free television and I must say, a very solid card it was. Not one I would have shelled out $30 for, but the hopes of these free events are to get new fans associated to GAMMA and mixed martial arts as a whole. It was a great card, with the televised portion being all good to great fights.
"The Judo God" Heikichi Shimizu continues to steamroll through his competition making Bruno Epps look like an amateur. He's now 4-0 in GAMMA, all by submission in either the first or second round. He finishes Epps here in the first by rear naked choke.
Another competitor tearing it up in the GAMMA Welterweight division is Josh Aldarisio. He made even shorter work of veteran Ray Eton. Aldarisio decided to push wrestling aside and display his colorful striking that he has picked up. Forty-one seconds later and the fight was over.
Maybe Aldarisio vs Shimizu could be a fight down the road...who knows?
Luke Hilton bounces back from his loss to Lucas Mueller by defeating the very game Naizen Hamacho. Hilton showed a lot of heart by pushing the pace the final fifteen seconds of the fight and scored a TKO victory that will sure to elevate him up the lightweight ladder.
As there's not much to the heavyweight division at the time, GAMMA fighters should fear Grzegorz Boniek. He hits hard and he's a very talented and accomplished fighter coming over from Japan and Europe. He picked Collins Lundie apart for three rounds and earns the hard fought 'w'. I'm not too sure that he'll have to win but a couple more to gain a title shot.
Ken Peters shocked everyone by making very quick work of John Rivero. Peters was able to hurt Rivero badly with a punch, go down to side control and finish with a kimura very quickly. This fight makes Peters look great and Rivero look very inconsistent.
We knew that Patrick Thomas and Adam White were going to bring everything they had, and we were not disappointed. Thomas tried to use his size and strength to out muscle White, but White was just too quick. White controlled the stand up battle as well as the ground. Unanimous decision for Adam White, but this loss doesn't knock Patrick Thomas too far down the totem pole.

Episode Three
*This week, the camera's will be following Houston "Furious" George. Matt Tripp, Mark Wallace, and Scott Avatar head to Thorton, Colorado.
*Houston is a High School wrestling coach, High School football coach, and an American history teacher. He loves being able to teach the craft of wrestling. Houston went to Thorton growing up, winning the State Championship his senior year of High School.
*Houston has made a name for himself around the Colorado region with his wrestling accolades. He went on to Colorado University where he went to Nationals, finishing third.
*Houston feels that his weakness is definitely in the standing department, but he feels that his wrestling is so crafty, that he doesn't have to worry about striking so much.
*Half way through the broadcast, Scott Avatar brings on the guest coach for this week, and it's none other than...James Foster. George is super stoked to meet Foster and Foster says that he's even heard of George's wrestling ability. Foster wants to show George a thing or two before George fights in the 8 man tournament come this May.
*They train and Foster tells George to work on his striking. Foster says that Houston may be a great wrestler, but to be a great MMA fighter, you have to be well-rounded. George takes it to heart.
*George has posted a professional record of 2-0. He says he's got all the tools to become the Next Big Thing.

Episode Four
*This week, the focus is on Brock "The Spark Plug" Youdale. Matt Tripp, Mark Wallace, and Scott Avatar head to Topeka, Kansas. Yeehaa!
*How cliche can this be? They meet Youdale on a farm. Youdale farms and owns his own body shop that he calls "The Spark Plug". He's been farming ever since he was a young boy and the hard work has crossed over into his mixed martial arts training.
*Youdale explains that his fighting technique is submission fighting. He teaches a self defense class in downtown Topeka. He knows how to pull, push, and crank to make anyone tap out. He's also a very decorated wrestler and has given the boxing thing a go or two.
*Brock describes his weakness as what others portray his weakness to be and that would be his size. He says that everyone over looks him because of how short he is, but small package can deliver a powerful punch. He's never let size stop him.
*Half way through the broadcast, Sean Morrison stops on by to offer some help for the upcoming tournament. Morrison says that he want Youdale to use his size as an advantage and off they go to trai.
*While they train, Youdale talks about his fighting career up to this point. He has an amateur MMA record of 5-2 and a professional record of 1-0. His only professional bout took place last year in Illinois and he knocked the guy completely unconscious. He says it was a good feeling.
*Youdale does his best to convince us that he definitely has what it takes to become the Next Big Thing!

Episode Five
*This week, the focus is on "The Flying V" Esteban Vega. Matt Tripp, Mark Wallace, and Scott Avatar have to leave the country for this one as they head down to Guadalajara, Mexico.
*They meet with Esteban who shows them around Guadalajara. Esteban is from Mexico but he's been living in the states for the past five years. He currently works for a construction job in Pittsburgh, but also trains at Rick Stanley's gym.
*Esteban explains to the viewers what his fighting style, Wing Chun is really all about. He says that he is very well rounded.
*He said the one thing he really wants to work on is his killer instinct.
*Half way through the program, former GAMMA Heavyweight Champion Raul Hughes stops by to offer his two sense. He helps Esteban with his striking.
*While they train, Esteban talks about how he's been fighting his whole life. His father left him and his three younger siblings when Vega was five, so he had to fight for not only himself, but his whole family. Whenever he sees someone across the ring or cage, he sees his father who walked out on him and so he tries to wreak havoc on his opponents.
*Esteban currently has a 2-0 professional record and is pretty sure that he will be the Next Big Thing.

*Randy Carsley is a police officer for the infamous NYPD. He's been working on the force for a little over two years. He's married with two kids already too.
*Randy uses a technique that he calls submission wrestling. He basically likes to take his opponent down and then submit them quickly. He helps teach at a gym there in Brooklyn about this technique.
*He knows how to use his hands and feet, but he tries to rely mostly on his wrestling and his submissions.
*Half way through the program, Dan Halvorsen stops by to help. Dan says that he thanks Randy for the line of work he's in and that he's already a warrior. Dan plans to help Randy control the action.
*They train and Randy tells us that he went to state his senior year of high school in wrestling but wound up losing because he broke his collar bone. Since then, he has posted a 5-0 amateur career but has yet to have a professional bout. Whoever he is put up against though will have a tough job in defending his submissions.
*Randy has had to experience way more difficult things than an eight man tournament, he knows he's going to be titled the Next Big Thing.

Aleksander Ivanov defeats Rick Stanley via TKO in 2:04 of Round 1
MAIN EVENT
James Foster defeats Christopher Sharp via TKO in 3:15 of Round 1 to RETAIN THE GAMMA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
-THOUGHTS ON THE EVENT-
The Nightmare picked up his second straight win in the GAMMA Welterweight division as Hansen defeats Hinchliffe. The fight was decent, but no great with Hansen dictating the pace of the fight. Maybe we'll see Hansen fight someone a little bit more exciting next time.
Thomas Smith stops his losing streak as he takes out veteran Carl Ratcliffe. A beautiful guillotine was applied by the Desert Storm veteran and Smith starts moving in the right direction again in the Middleweight division.
Aleksei Chekhov and Kendall Tracey put on a great show. Tracey kept trying to take the action to the ground, but Chekhov would not allow it. Tracey won the first round and was winning the second until he caught crushed by a looping right. Tracey crumbled and Chekhov put an impressive win on his record.
I think Xie Ming could also make claim for the GAMMA Welterweight Title. A strong showing here against Alberto Basora and the Chinese fighter has had two exciting wins to his name. A disappointing fight to say the least for Basora. Look for Xie to get a number one contendership shot here soon.
Rick Stanley could very well retire after tonight's debacle. Aleksander Ivanov made his debut in style, dropping the GAMMA legend right after the minute mark. Stanley looks slow and completely out matched. Ivanov looked sharp, although we would have love to seen him fight a little longer. He will be a force in the Heavyweight division, mark my words.
James Foster solidifies himself as the top Heavyweight once again by taking care of Christopher Sharp. He's basically wiped out the whole division and there's not many left to fight him. Foster took Sharp down and it was elementary after that. He avoided a couple of submission attempts, but beat on his opponent until the ref stepped in. Great show for the champ.

THE NEXT BIG THING
Episode Seven
*The focus of this week will be on "The Unbreakable" Gideon Navarro. Mark Wallace, Matt Tripp, and Scott Avatar head to sunny Hawaii for this week's show.
*Gideon Navarro works as a personal trainer at one of Honolulu's most renowned fitness joints.
*Gideon says he's a hybrid fighter, meaning he can do just about anything...he's the complete package.
*If he could choose one thing to work on, it would be his strikes. He's comfortable enough with his wrestling and submissions, but his boxing and kick boxing skills could be refined.
*Half way through the program, GAMMA Middleweight Champion, Neil Napier stops by. Gideon is in awe of his land's hero, Neil Napier who fights out of Oahu. Napier promises that if Gideon listens to him, he will become the Next Big Thing.
*They train together and Gideon talks about his fighting accomplishments. He's won a couple Hawaiian open invitational grappling tournaments as well as lettering in wrestling all throughout high school. He has an amateur MMA record of 7-1, and has yet to fight at the professional level.
*Gideon says that he already felt like the complete package, but now that he was trained by the living legend Neil Napier, he's 100% sure he's going to be the Next Big Thing.

Episode Eight
*This week, the focus of the show is on Rich "Hard Rain" Robinson. Only Mark Wallace and Scott Avatar are able to make the trip to Alberta, Canada as Matt Tripp has other business to attend to.
*Rich Robinson has just started a teaching job at the local high school in Wood Buffalo. He teaches PE and history there. In his spare time, he trains at the local MMA gym in town.
*Rich claims he is a MMA fighter. Not a wrestler, not a kick boxer, but he can do it all. He gets his nickname though from his vicious ground and pound.
*Rich feels like he has nothing he could improve on.
*Halfway through the show, GAMMA Welterweight Champion, Julio Regueiro stops by to help train. Reguiero says that he has heard of Rich before and likes his work ethic.
*As they train, Rich tells us about his fighting successes. Rich has an amateur record of 8-0 and has competed twice at the professional level winning both of them in his native Canada.
*Rich definitely thinks he's going to be the Next Big Thing and Mark Wallace and Scott Avatar agree that he's going to be the one to beat in this tournament.

THE NEXT BIG THING
Episode Nine
*This week, the focus will be on the final fighter of the tournament, "The Sewer Rat" Ronnie Allen Taylor. Matt Tripp rejoins his co-workers Mark Wallace and Scott Avatar as they journey back to New York.
*Ronnie Taylor owns his own internet business along with a few friends of his from college. He says that he made friends with the right dorks while at NYU and now rarely works more than a couple of hours a day. This leaves him plenty of time to train.
*Ronnie uses his collegiate wrestling background as his style even though he's got great hands as well.
*Ronnie feels, like most wrestlers, that he could improve what he does when he's actually on his back. With an arrogant smile though, he says you first have to get him on his back which is nothing too simple.
*Halfway through the show, Jack Humphreys comes in on his cell phone to help train Ronnie Allen Taylor. It takes him a while to actually get off the phone and then he just wants to bark orders at Ronnie. He doesn't want to do anything hands on for fear he might get hurt. Wallace, Tripp, and Avatar try to coax Humphreys into helping Taylor, but Humphreys gets pissed and leaves. Ronnie's mad that he didn't get any professional help.
*Ronnie says he doesn't need Jack Humphreys to help him become the Next Big Thing, he'll do that on his own in hopes of fighting Humphreys some day.

Petey Mack defeats Todd D'Abruzzo via submission in 3:49 of Round 2
Niko Soldo defeats Pete Shilton via unanimous decision
Tomohiro Takeuchi defeats Kyle Sagal via TKO in 2:08 of Round 2
Andrew Rush defeats Vagner via KO in 0:18 of Round 1
Evan Pizzarro defeats Lloyd McAllister via unanimous decision
MAIN CARD
Anthony LeToussier defeats Derek South via KO in 1:57 of Round 1
Shuler Eigenberg defeats Aaron McBroom via KO in 1:44 of Round 2
Callum Henson defeats Vikram Sithalayan via unanimous decision
Osmosis Benn defeats Matthew Dean via unanimous decision
Tim Boyer defeats Harvey Loeb via KO in 3:11 of Round 1
MAIN EVENT
Zvonimir Asanovic defeats Mike Watson via TKO in 3:50 Round 5 to RETAIN THE GAMMA LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
-THOUGHTS ON THE EVENT-
Anthony LeToussier made short work of Derek South, needing less than two minutes to finish South off. A good win for LeToussier as he bounces back to the win column following his knock out loss to Mike Watson. South looked outmatched in this fight, receiving his first loss inside the GAMMA cage, but he should be back and better than ever.
Shuler Eigenberg gets his second straight knockout win with GAMMA defeating Aaron McBroom early in the second round. Shuler has shocked most of his critics since coming over from XCC including me.
Callum Henson crushed the debuting Vikram Sithalayan. Vikram came highly praised after his work over in the UK but looked weak against Henson. Callum was able to pick Vikram apart, but was unable to finish him off.
Former GAMMA Middleweight Champion, Matthew Dean was unable to stop the take downs from Osmosis Benn leading to Benn getting the biggest win of his young career. It was dreadful to watch, the crowd was very restless with Benn taking Dean down and basically laying on him, but it got the job done. With such a huge win over a respected veteran, I wonder how far away Benn is from his first title shot. As far as for Dean, this makes his third loss in a row, even though they were all against quality fighters (Napier, Garner, and now Benn). If he doesn't want to move too far down the chopping block in the Middleweight division, he'll need a pretty big win next time out.
Speaking of fighters needing a pretty big win, Tim Boyer would fall in that category as he took on the debuting, Harvey Loeb. Boyer was coming off back to back losses from Foster and Hughes and was quickly getting ready to be out of the Heavyweight picture. He picked up a pretty convincing KO over Loeb, but Loeb's a nobody. If Boyer wants to get back into the title hunt, he'll need a quality win over a quality fighter.
The main event might have been the "Fight of the Year". Mike Watson did exactly what he said he was going to do when he took on Zvonimir Asanovic and that was dictate the pace and make Asanovic uncomfortable. Watson was winning the fight, even winning the fifth and final round, but a looping right from the tired champ connected beautiful dropping Watson instantly. It was just a flash knockout, but the season veteran jumped on Watson and start raining down hammer fist and elbows until the ref jumped in. The rankings are a little odd right now with debuting fighters and ranked fighters losing, so who knows whose next for Asanovic?

FIGHT OF THE NIGHT: Mike Watson vs Zvonimir Asanovic
KNOCKOUT OF THE NIGHT: Andrew Rush

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
*Matt Tripp announced that he was glad to finally get over 15,000+ in attendance for the first time. He announced that this event is the record for highest attended show ever in GAMMA.
*Matt Tripp has announced that the Next Big Thing has been renewed for a second season after the success from the first and will feature Heavyweights this time around.
*Matt Tripp also announced that he has come to terms with former GAMMA Heavyweight and former ALPHA-1 fighter, Jeff "The Rock" Carlton. No news of when he will debut or against who.
*GAMMA 56 is shaping up to be a summer blockbuster. Two championship fights plus Leon Banks vs Gempachi Higa and Adam White vs Mac Fuller.
*GAMMA 57 is has been rumored to be James Foster defending his Heavyweight gold against Norman Pike.
*Rumors are circulating that GAMMA has been negotiations with legendary fighter Hassan Fezzik. Hassan is still under ALPHA-1 contract, so nothing officially can be confirmed, but Hassan has said numerous times how unhappy he is over Japan and how he would like to fight in North America. Because of this rumor, several fighters has stated they want the first shot at him. Those fighters would be Tim Boyer, Raul Hughes, Rick Stanley, and James Foster. Foster would be the most likely canidate as he lost to Fezzik in one of his first professional MMA fights in South America and a rematch would be huge.

THE NEXT BIG THING FINALS
Esteban Vega defeats Gideon Navarro via unanimous decision TO BECOME THE NEXT BIG THING
-THOUGHTS ON THE EVENT-
*Ronnie Allen Taylor used his supreme wrestling skills to stuff the much smaller Brock Youdale. It was a pretty boring fight to say the least, that didn't earn Ronnie any fans but did earn him a win in 2 rounds.
*I guess there is a certain mold you have to follow tonight. Take your fighter down and hold them there. Don't try to advance the position just hold them there until the ref stands you up and then do it again. Houston George wins via laying on top of Randy Carsley for six minutes. Thank God for three minute rounds.
*Esteban Vega looked sharp Nathan Chambers. He looked the better fighter on his feet and on the ground. Chambers looked scared in this fight. Vega finishes with a rear naked choke.
*Gideon Navarro scores the first upset of the night beating the highly favored tournament winner, Rich Robinson. It took three rounds and Navarro looks tired now, but awesome fight.
*Again, Esteban Vega looks great. Houston George gets knocked out cold within seconds of the fight. Vega is moving on to the finals.
*Gideon Navarro was able to push the action more than Ronnie Allen Taylor. Navarro was able to stuff Taylor's take down attempts and keep the fight standing where he had the clear advantage. Navarro vs Vega up next.
*Esteban Vega completely dominated Gideon Navarro. It makes sense, Vega had been out in the ring the shortest amount of time where Navarro had been out there the longest. The Rick Stanley trained Vega is the NEXT BIG THING apparently, but I don't know. Yea, Vega looked great over these guys, but what about quality fighters? How would he do? It remains to be seen.

MAIN EVENT
Neil Napier defeats Buddy Garner via KO in 1:41 of Round 4 to RETAIN THE GAMMA MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
-THOUGHTS ON THE EVENT-
*All the televised portion of the PPV ended in some, shape, or form in a decision other than going to the judges. This set a great pace for the PPV.
*Kenneth Toadspew got his second win inside the GAMMA cage over Agustin Gonzalez. Agustin was suppose to lose the last three fights he was placed in, but somehow, upset each fight and won. He was looking to do this again against Toadspew, but Kenneth's sleek submission skills proved true once again finishing Gonzalez via rear naked choke in the second.
*Coming fresh off his defeat from the hands of Neil Napier, Stuart Strange looked quite impressive over the debuting Sutton Ripley. Sutton comes over from Japan as someone who is not to be toyed with, but Strange made him look less than formidable. He finishes Ripley via guillotine late in the second.
*GAMMA smells a big money PPV now that they have resigned Roberto Aldez. Aldez didn't look quite what he looked like the last time he was with GAMMA, losing the first round to Japanese striker Inejiro Chiba. Aldez came back in the second, knocking Chiba out with a vicious knee. GAMMA wants to have the much anticipated Aldez vs Asanovic II, as that was the fight that made Zvonimir Asanovic into a star.
*James Foster and the rest of the Heavyweight division better take notice of Aleksander Ivanov. His second fight in GAMMA, his second win, and his second Knockout in the first round. Ari Peltonen got hit within the first fifteen seconds by one of Ivanov's powerful rights and that was pretty much all she wrote. Peltonen tried surviving the rest of the round, but the ref finally called the fight.
*Fan favorite, Raul Hughes and new comer, Souleymane Ya Konan put on a show for everyone. They were slugging each other out of the gate and not letting up any time soon. Hughes got the better of the exchanges in the first and finished Ya Konan mid way through the second with a vicious left.
*Neil Napier showed why many people consider him the pound for pound best fighter in the world by physically dominating Buddy Garner for 3 and a half rounds. Napier's strikes and takedowns were impressive; Garner kept inviting Napier into his guard, but Napier knew better than to toy with Garner's jiu-jitsu. Napier lands a huge kick to the chin and knocks Garner out cold. The Middleweight division right now is blossoming, so hopefully Napier has a steady line of competition.
*Adrian Pascal vs Justin Brannagh, Nigel Malley vs Stephen de Winter, and Elvis Milissis vs Bret Clement from the preliminary fights made it's way on to the PPV.

MAIN EVENT
Josh Aldarisio defeats Heikichi Shimizu via unanimous decision
-THOUGHTS ON THE EVENT-
*That is not a mistake, Aleksei Chekhov did win his fight via submission against Jerry Bogdonovich. The two exchanged blows during the first round, but Chekhov took advantage of a slip by Bogdonovich and moved in for the kill. He wins by rear naked choke. Fun fight for them both.
*In a fight with two up and coming middleweights, Ethan Sutton walks away the victor against Andrew Rush. Rush dictated most of the match with his strikes until Sutton took Rush down and grounded and pounded. Strong win for Sutton, he looked good.
*I think GAMMA officials were hoping that this fight would be a little more interesting. Steve Mason usually finished his opponents over in Japan quickly and viciously with his strikes, but his fight with Fatuma Roy was anything but vicious. He looked tentative and reserved during much of the fight. He still got the win, but I'm sure GAMMA officials will expect more out of him in the future.
*Another fighter debuting on the show with high hopes was Belarus 1996 Olympic silver medalist, Nicolai Mickiewicz. Even though he defeated the veteran, Mark Cohen quite convincingly, he didn't show that he has learned too much more than the wrestling background that he comes from.
*The main event did not disappoint. Josh Aldarisio might have made a claim for the GAMMA Welterweight title even though he's only been in seven professional fights. He picks up an unanimous decision victory over "Judo God", Heikichi Shimizu. This match definitely lived up to it's hype. Shimizu won the first round with his throws and by pinning Aldarisio up against the cage. It just wasn't enough to win the fight. Aldarisio came back strong with his wrestling skills in the second and third rounds to get the win. I know the rumor is right now that if Reguiero beats Humphreys and Morrison beats Brockett at GAMMA 56, that they'll meet each other in an epic super fight in December, but if they don't, I think Aldarisio should get the next title shot. That would be a dream fight!
*This was a good televised card. Again, not something I would have shelled out money for, but the main event was wonderful, it was a real treat to see that fight.
