BBC: The Los Angeles Times reported that the 50-year-old singer was not breathing when paramedics arrived at his home. The paramedics performed CPR and took him to the UCLA medical centre, the newspaper says. Officials would not confirm if the CPR was successful. The star was due to begin a series of comeback concerts with an appearance at London's O2 arena on 13 July.
He has a history of health problems and has not completed a concert tour in 12 years. Michael Jackson's home is off Sunset Boulevard in Bel Air.
Several sites have reported that he has died. :( Altough some say he's being treated..

Sky News: "Michael Jackson has died after suffering cardiac arrest."
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Pop giant Michael Jackson, who took to the stage as a child star and went on to set the world dancing to the thumping rhythms of his music for decades, died Thursday, TMZ website reported. He was 50.
"We've just learned Michael Jackson has died," TMZ said.
"Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon and paramedics were unable to revive him. We're told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back," the entertainment site said.
There was no official confirmation of the reported death and spokespersons for Jackson could not be reached for comment.
Earlier, the Los Angeles Times said that the singer had been rushed to a Los Angeles-area hospital by fire department paramedics who found him not breathing when they arrived at the singer's home.
The newspaper said paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the scene before taking him to the UCLA Medical Center hospital.
Jackson had been due to start a series of comeback concerts in London on July 13 running until March 2010. The singer, whose hits include "Thriller" and "Billie Jean," had been rehearsing in the Los Angeles area for the past two months.
The shows for the 50 London concerts sold out within hours of going on sale in March.
Jackson started out as a child star in the band "The Jackson 5" more than 40 years ago.
He has lived as a virtual recluse since his acquittal in 2005 on charges of child molestation.
There have been concerns about Jackson's health in recent years but the promoters of the London shows, AEG Live, said in March that Jackson had passed a 4-1/2 hour physical examination with independent doctors.

I saw the news hit about him being sent to the hospital for the cardiac arrest.
I grew up listening to alot of his music, and everything about him aside he was a talented performer, indeed one of the best at what he did.
Gonna miss him.
the Associated press has also confirmed that he has indeed died.

I'm going to be honest. Michael Jackson has never been a favorite of mine. I've come to learn to appreciate his music though in recent times though. I'm not exactly thrilled about the man himself. He was kinda creepy. But this is truly sad to hear. Some people may be happy, and many people will be saddened. Either way, it's a big loss.

I'll admit I've never been a fan at all really of the man or his music, but any loss of life is tragic. I do realise many people will be affected by this, and my thoughts go out to his fans, family and friends. Apologies if I seem cruel or insincere, I'm definitely not intending to be.

I was just told this as I walked by my living room. I am shocked. I was one of his many, many fans anxiously waiting on his next album. I knew he was gunna make a comeback it was just a matter of time.
And as for the tabloids well, their tabloids. The man was a bit off apparently, but tabloids will take pennies and call them quarters. So take all his "rumors" for what they are.
In any case, the world lost a true legend. RIP.

A brilliant performer, a catalog full of amazing music....
It's just.... wow.

The bad jokes are already been invented.. Found these two. Too early in my opinion even though I'm a huge fan of black humour.

Yeah too early.
Just, Michael Jackson in so many ways seemed immortal. He's left a musical legacy that, much thanks to his genius, will live on forever. His albums, Thriller especially, shaped the world of music to come and this loss is just tragic in every sense of the word. The greatest performer of all time without a doubt, I will always respect and cherish his contributions to music. And, on a much more down to earth note, today some have lost a father, a brother and a son, and a close friend and so my prayers go out to those people.
Rest In Peace, the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

Legendary performer. I'm a big time Motown fan, and listening back to the Jackson 5 days, Michael Jackson was the man. I was really hoping he'd extend the tour beyond London and come on down to Australia because I really wanted to see him one time. It was only the other day I was watching VH1 and remarking to the wife about some of his singing traits the "YA" or "SHAMO" that he'd sing almost instinctively.
Very sad day for music IMO, I was absolutely shocked and saddened to hear it. Thanks for the great music and the people you have influenced who have also became major stars.

Listening to the tributes and his many songs today, it occured to me just how many of his songs I absolutely love - in particular, Bille Jean and I Want You Back (Jackson 5, strictly) are two of my favourite songs.
Just an amazing artist, and a genuine legend of entertainment.

There have been rumors around speculation around Michael Jackson and his family for decades now.
All in an attempt to cash in on a legacy Jackson himself made through inspirational music, feel-good tunes and legendary entertainment for the masses.
MJ's record wasn't clean, but could any man stand there before the face of death and say they had a clean life. And in a life, where the only negatives come from what "might" of happened, I'd say you'd lived a pretty damned good life.
Michael could never of been a normal person. When you are brought up the way he was, not just in his childhood, but also living under the glare of constant media and paparazzi.
So let us all leave the maybes and the negatives behind us. And say grace to one of the greatest musical legacies any one man could leave behind.
Michael will always be an icon, he led an era, he was the soundtrack to millions of people, and made music that consistently got the people out of their seats and onto the dance floors.
Michael has changed the world through his music, he has changed and challenged our opinions just through spoken words. Albeit they weren't spoken, rather sung through a voice that has been blaring through our speakers for years.
From what his close friends have said about him, he is a very warm-hearted and kind man. He loved his family, and he loved his fans.
He always wanted to give the fans what they wanted and more. And when we talk about "The King Of Pop" more means much much more.
It seems that even the legend himself knew he could not always continue his legacy. It just seems fate could of been kinder to Jackson, and let him have that one last tour.
I am not a devoted Jackson fan, and I only have three songs of his on my ipod. But when a person of such magnitude passes, the whole world will feel the effects. These effects however, will be felt most by those closest to him. So my condolences must pass to all of his friends and family.
A Rose by any other colour will smell just as sweet.
There will only ever be one Michael Jackson.
RIP MJ, the world has been watching, and now it is our turn to mourn.

Agreed, Orange. I don't personally buy all the allegations, I think he was a guy who lost his childhood, never really had a normal life, who wanted to experience childhood joy again.
The guy is an entertainment God, the other two big losses way too early for me were John Lennon and Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson is right up there with those guys as to how many brilliant and talented musicians he paved the way for and influenced.
I'm grateful for having experienced his music, grateful for having grown up through the Bad, Dangerous, Thriller era, grateful for having the opportunity to experience the Jackson 5 retrospectively. He gave me a lot of joy with his music.
Rest in Peace, and thanks for the memories. Like Elvis and John Lennon, the legend will live on.

It's just so very sad to see how it all came to be. My girlfriend and I were just talking about this all last week... How the only thing Michael needed was one major comeback to really force others to remember why we love him.
He will go down as THE greatest entertainer in music history (if not in general). I find myself still in a state of shock... watching coverage upon coverage of the event... Just, so very sad.

I don't have alot of free time lately, but I wanted to thank everyone here at GDS for having such heart. I don't know what I expected, but as I read this thread it made me very proud to be a part of this community here.
Of course my heart goes out to all of MJ's fans and family, and from what I've seen lately, NEW fans.
The one thing I would like to share with everyone is a little conversation I had with my father when he was visiting one year, shortly after that "Special" interview with MJ by that reporter that stayed with MJ a few days... You know the one, the one that said "Absolutely NOT!" when MJ asked if he liked to climb tree's.
My father is not a fan. My father don't like one song by MJ, my father is country western all the way (with a little 50's music thrown in). My father is almost 70 years old. Just wanted to give you that little bit of information before sharing what he said after watching that "Special".
He said he thought that the interview was totally BS, and that there was nothing MJ did in that, that was the least bit harmfull. The guy that did the interview tried as hard as he could to find things wrong with MJ, and twisted things to make it sound "worse" then what was really going on. My father bassically felt that MJ was just trying to live a fantasy life, and since he had the money to do it, he didn't find anything wrong with it. He didn't have a childhood that any normal child does, and so did his best to make sure any children around him COULD have what he never had.
I never thought MJ did anything wrong. I figured if he did, in his shoe's with such a huge circle of interest around him, over the years... He would have had to slip up at least once, to where it was no questions asked... Imagine never being able to escape the cameras.. There is no way he could have been doing things like that with all the people around, and all the photographer's camped out, every day, for years and years, at his place.
However, I never quite looked at it the way my Father said it. I guess not ever really caring about the artist, and just looking at the man my father might have had a thought that after hearing it looked crystal clear to me (if no one else). IT Wasn't that MJ was trying to be a kid... It was that he wanted to do all he could to let kids be kids. Even the Peter Pan thing that has been talked to death supports this... as Peter Pan, although never growing up supposedly, was always the Mature one in a group of kids... taking responsibility and standing up to the adults for not letting the kids be, well, kids. If you remember any of the stories, it kind of goes together (at least to me it does).
I myself have great respect for MJ, and have always thought he was fully capable of making a "comeback" anytime he really wanted and desired to do so.... I remember reading a long time ago, when Janet was starting to get popular, that MJ wanted to stand aside, and let Janet be Janet, and not the sister of Michael. There is no doubt in my mind, that this tour (and album) that Michael was about to do before this unfortunate death, was going to break records, possibly even his own. I read he sold out 750 thousand seats in four hours.... FOUR HOURS. I don't know how that is even possible, to be honest.
If I had one of those tickets, I don't think I would want my money back. I think I would hold on to those tickets. Not saying they will be worth more then you payed for them, but you never know... I would probably hold on to them even if they never are. Just for the memmory.
I'm actually a bigger fan of people like James Brown, Stevie, Smokey, etc., far as Motown is concerned, a huge fan of the Temptations. The reason this death bother's me so much, is because (as someone else already said somewhere), he was just about to remind the world why he's the King of Pop. The last death that effected me this way was Lefteye Lisa Lopez, from TLC. She was just starting to really get going, and next thing I hear is there was an accident.
RIP Michael Jackson. See you in Soul Heaven.

Demerol.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Michael_Jackson
And yes, Jackson had been using that and a bunch of other meds for twenty years or so. When I now think of it, it really was a small miracle for him to live this long. All the pressure and constant media attention would drive anyone unstable. From that small to 50 years under the spotlight..
His staff said he was worried about the London concerts. "He wasn't eating, he wasn't sleeping and, when he did sleep, he had nightmares that he was going to be murdered," one of them told Halperin. "He was deeply worried that he was going to disappoint his fans. He even said something that made me briefly think he was suicidal. He said he thought he’d die before doing the London concerts. He said he was worried that he was going to end up like Elvis. He was always comparing himself to Elvis, but there was something in his tone that made me think that he wanted to die, he was tired of life. He gave up. His voice and dance moves weren't there any more. I think maybe he wanted to die rather than embarrass himself on stage."
I know this sound's harsh but. Sort of. He's finally free. A tragedy of a lifetime. And now it is over. As much as I like the guy and everything.. Don't get me wrong, I don't want anybody to die. But still, I sort of feel "happy" for Jackson. No more fears, no more nightmares, no more drug addiction, no more stress, no more.. Anything bad.

The Game, Chris Brown, Diddy, Polow Da Don, Mario Winans, Usher, Boyz II Men have made a song called "Better On The Other Side" as a tribute To MJ.

(Diddy talking)
I remember the first time i seen you moonwalk,
I believed I could do anything,
you made the world dance,
you made the music come to life
(Chris brown - Chorus)
This the type of song that make the angels cry,
i look up in the sky and i wonder why?
why you had to go, go
and I know its better on the other side,
you were chosen from the start
never gon let you go,
(The Game)
Whos Michael Jackson,
Your Michael Jackson,
Im Michael Jackson,
We all Michael Jackson,
I guess what Im asking is everybody bow their head for a legend
dont breathe for a second,
now let the air out, grab the hand of somebody you care about,
so you can hear my message, my confession,
someone tell Usher, i seen the moonwalk,
i guess the young thriller touched him,
like he touched me, like he touched you,
so carry on his legacy, something i must do,
and i trust you lighting candles, concrete visuals,
me and my brothers listen to jackson 5 in the living room,
first thing i did when i heard was call puff,
cos him and Mike tried to stop the beef between us,
who was us? Me and fifty,
that beef is dead, him and Mike Jackson gonna take us to the ledge.
(Chris brown - Chorus)
This the type of song that make the angels cry,
i look up in the sky and i wonder why?
why you had to go, go
I know its better on the other side,
you were chosen from the start
never gon let you go,
(The Game)
As Im pouring out this liquor candles start to flicker,
when list my air ones, MJ was my ******.
Not the one that play ball, the one with the hollywood star,
and since im a hollywood star imma tell you my story,
never had a family that close,
never see Barry Gordy walking through interscope,
just like me they always had Mike in a scope,
no matter what you say,
imma love him and he’s still dope,
let me take you back to 85 when i was in a zone,
dancing for my momma thriller jacket with all the zippers on,
now im doing 90 bout to crash in this Aston,
listening to Outcast, Im sorry Mrs Jackson
anything i can ever do to better you
your son was our king so we wont Corretta you,
Im writing this letter to all the Jackson kids,
we all Jackson kids, time to let us through.
(Chris brown - Chorus)
This the type of song that make the angels cry,
i look up in the sky and i wonder why?
why you had to go, go
I know its better on the other side,
you were chosen from the start
never gon let you go,
(Diddy talking)
people can say what they wanna say ’bout you
and you dont remember the miracles that you showed us
to you music, to your dance
you are the one that made us all realize that we are the world
you are the one that showed us that we can moonwalk
you gave us the beat, you gave us the rythem, you gave us the soul
to us your legacy lives on
you cant stop now, you wont stop now
Mike Jackson
(Chris brown - Chorus)
This the type of song that make the angels cry,
i look up in the sky and i wonder why?
why you had to go, go
I know its better on the other side,
you were chosen from the start
never gon let you go,
its from my heart
This is the kind of song that make the angels cry,
i look up in the sky and ask God why?
This is the kind of song that make the angels cry,
i look up in the sky and ask God why?

What a SOB man. Just thought I would leave this here for those MJ fans/wrestling fans. And for the Warrior fans who have been dropped on their heads to much.
Former WWF Champion Ultimate Warrior has posted a tongue-in-cheek blog on his official website concerning the passing of Michael Jackson. Warrior wrote: "I imagine all the crying about the death of this recent drug-soused entertainment freak has most to do with the unfortunate inconvenience that the other drug-soused entertainment freaks now face. They will have to look for another local, safe and reputable babysitter. No longer will they be able to drop their kids off down the street at Jacko's to be watched for the afternoon and spend some play time with his own kids." How about some compassion or understanding or at least shutcha mouth if ya can't say nothing nice. I haven't mentioned a word about MJ passing simply because I dislike his music and because of his past, others should take my lead. What a b@stard.

You are not only one of the most insensitive sons of bitches on the face of the Earth. You are also the most hypocritical.
MJ was a drug doused freak? And this is coming from a often rambling jackass who changed his name to “Warrior” and took steroids like they were insulin.
I find it especially funny that you would insult MJ since you both rose to super stardom at the same time. Only difference is, one persons death is actually newsworthy, while the others eventual death (crosses fingers) won’t even get a “In memory of” bump at the top of the following weeks RAW.
And yes, its such a shame that parents don’t have MJ to drop their kids off to anymore. But I suppose they can always drop them off with you…. assuming you don’t demand more money mid way through and threaten to walk out.

Afroman...that's awesome!
I hate that friggin hypocrite so much. I remember him making similar comments after Rick Rude died, about how it was good that a drug addict like Rude was no longer around. This, coming from maybe the most obviously-juiced wrestler I've ever seen? And directed towards one of the guys who was instrumental in carrying his talentless ass to watchable matches, no less.
On the original topic: I'm not sure what to make of MJ's personal life, what's real and what's fabricated. But there's no denying what the man did in his professional life. He's in the same league as Elvis.

Sir, I now worship the ground on which you stand on.

What I've read from finnish newspapers, (can't find the original source but I'm believing this is true) the autopsy revealed cruel details, saying Jackson was just a "skeleton" as he weighed only about 51kg.
From his stomach they found just pills, medicine. His hips, thighs and shoulders were full of needlemarks, due to be being injected heavily with painkillers and meds, three times a day. Jackson was almost completely bald and was wearing a wig. He had bruises and cuts in his knees and in his back which could indicate an accident, falling recently. Jackson's face was full of scars from the several plastic surgeries and the tip of his nose had crumbled into pieces.
Basicly he was just skin and bones. :(
And now Debbie Rowe has confirmed to the News of the World that Michael Jackson is NOT the biological father of his children.

Yeah. I really feel so sorry for him now that I have looked around and read about his life. He never really lived a normal life. When I heard that song "Better On The Other Side" I think it was the first time I had shed a tear for Michael.. Late at night things like that come so easily. And .. You know, I'm not a Michael Jackson diehard fan but I respect and admire the guy and everything he did. The biggest modern superstar is now gone and people are just now starting to realise just how big of an impact this actually is to so many people all around the world.
Seeing all the footage of mourning people, family, friends and fans.. Damn that's hard. I just think of what the future holds for the children of his. Even though they aren't related biologically, they're still his children. I wonder just how they will find their place in this world and/or will they end up in the entertainment industry.

How is this newsworthy exactly? Supremely talented entertainer who had some demons. Why it's dominated EVERY news telecast is beyond me. Yes, it's sad to his family and friends that he died, but that's as far I'll go.

According To TMZ
We've learned the story making the rounds detailing the terrible condition of Michael Jackson's body is a fake.
A report in The Sun gave harrowing details of the body, but we've learned the "autopsy report" was fabricated and completely false.

I Also doubted it, at the time of his death he was rehearsing everyday so he should of been in "fine" condition. With Michael your always going to get different rumors and stories even that he is gone and passed now, which is a shame because we should be celebrating him for his MUSIC and for donating and raising millions for charity WorldWide.
Especially the BS about those child abuse allegations who were just jealous parents wanting to get money from Michael.
Like some of you I had been stuck on his videos and songs for the last couple of days and really realized the talent that this man had, He Was Truly the greatest entertainer ever and It is truly sad that he is gone but at least he is away from the pain he probaly was in and he is truly now in a better place.

It's the same as when Elvis Presley and John Lennon went down. Firstly, it was before their time, secondly, in the case of Jackson:-
13 #1s
13 Grammys
750,000,000 albums sold
Thriller from 1983 is STILL the number one selling record of all time, 109,000,000
Aside from his statistical legacy, I think practically everyone on the face of the earth knows of Michael Jackson, and at some time or another a high proportion of them would have enjoyed his music.
I don't want to go into the rubbish media escapade, but if I appraise his life I feel sad knowing how much he berated himself to go from a very good looking black boy/man to something he was just not. It's a failure of life, and it's probably a morals story that money can't buy happiness.
Its newsworthy because of the huge demand for it publically, he's an enigmatic figure who most have an opinion on.
This issue with Debbie Rowe is just tragic. I don't see how bringing it up now helps anyone, particularly the kids.

Bloody Hell.
It really does amaze me how selfless some people can be. This is just another testament to the legacy of Michael Jackson. He somehow seems to of made nearly everybody's lives better. If we went through all Michael had done, I'm sure we'd find millions of people who were better off, all off the back of one man's musical legacy. And what a legacy.

Rich people are often involved in many charities because they act as tax shelters for large sums of money.

That's true. SOME rich people do. Not all.
Nuff Said.

Doesn't matter why they do it.

like CQ said, it doesnt matter why they do it. It takes somebody of at least some moral standard to help charities.

I wasn't being inflammatory, just playing devil's advocate. If someone improves the quality of people's lives, it doesn't matter how or why they do that? How far does that extend? I'm interested.

According to this Yahoo! article:

Mr. Jackson left money in his will to charity. Doesn't sound like having a tax shelter to me.

I understand your view, Orange. But in my opinion to say that motivation doesn't matter is irresponsible. For all we know it could have been court-ordered as part of his various lawsuit settlements.

Considering that the man died just 5 days ago, we really should let the truth get it's shoes on now that the rumours have started running.
But it's possible, noone is denying that.

Part of me would say that is right. It certainly is for the the person whose life is being improved. Let's say you live in a developing nation, like Guatemala or other Central American countries. You've never had certain things (running water for example). And the new government is laundering drug money and creating better services using said money. You think that person will care AT THE MOMENT it is being done? Highly unlikely. If they do, it won't be until that money stops being spent there, and if it does happen at the moment, it will be a fleeting moral objection. You certainly won't see him not use the new services.
A very extreme example to be sure.
But when celebrities do stuff like this, we can be pretty sure it's not drug money (unless it's Jay Z who has joked about stuff like that). Take for example Ted Turner. Before the AOL/Time Warner debacle, I remember reading he had somewhere around $23 Billion. He donated $1 Billion. He said he could have donated $22 Billion. He's also amassed a large portion of this country's land (primarily in the Midwest), I believe for conservation issues. Some people fear that eventually he'll use that land for business purposes putting other businesses out. Until that happens, what he's been able to do is admirable.
Why is it so difficult to believe that maybe some celebrities actually care about certain causes/are nice people? I think it's terrible that people question acts of kindness. I do on occasion, but tend to catch myself.
Finally, a more personal example. When you go out to eat, and you leave a generous tip, are you looking to get something back in return? I would hope not. Maybe you just realize that servers don't get minimum wage and thus rely on tips (which are often split with other members of the staff, i.e. busboys). And I don't think you can use tips as a tax shelter. Though I could be wrong.
Much like you, I wish I didn't come as confrontational, but I figured I would try to answer the question.
