Basic Rules

HOW TO PLAY:

- All of you will be PM’d a role and your alignment. The objective is to eliminate all members of the opposing alignment from the game.

- Each player has been given a role with their own special ability. Your PM will explain what it does, if you are meant to know. You don’t have to reveal what your role is to the other players, nor will I do so in my updates. Then again there is nothing to stop you, so if you feel that it may help prove your innocence, go ahead – just keep in mind that this could also backfire and help the mafia. In other words, claim at your own risk. Likewise, you may lie about who you are if you wish. If you want to use your abilities, PM me. DO NOT post it in the thread.


-Remember, some roles such as investigators and protectors are more valuable to the town – so try to keep them alive!


RULES:

- I know it’s the Mafia Forum, but try not to postwhore in the thread anyway. Feel free to trash talk, accuse, call out other players if you want, but if you’re going to vote, at least state some kind of reason as to why you’re doing so.

- Though I can’t force you to post, I’d love to see active participation. I would advise everyone try to check in with this game at least once a day. Things move fast and you can fall behind pretty easily.

- Once you are dead, you stay dead, and may not participate until the game is over. This includes notes found on your corpse, cryptic messages from the dead, etc, etc. You may also not advise the remaining players on what to do – besides, to prevent cheating, I will not provide the dead with any additional information than they would get if they were still alive. Of course, I’m willing to listen to your theories as to what’s going on. Likewise, I'd appreciate if those not taking part try not help those playing, though general comments on how things are going would be welcomed in the Sign Up Thread.

- Unless your role PM specifically states otherwise, all players may not discuss game plan, your role, or alignment outside the thread. Of course, I can’t enforce this, but I believe secretly revealing information amongst each other would spoil the game, so try not to do it.

- Players are not allowed to edit their posts in this thread at all, as it allows for those who make mistakes to remove all of the evidence without any effort. Since I can't enforce this, I strongly encourage all players to scrutinize any posts they notice that have been edited.

-Players are not allowed to cut and paste anything straight from the Role PM except the Role title. No cutting and pasting from the body of the PM. You can paraphrase what your Role PM says but that is all.

-Please play your role/alignment and play to win. We will be strict about this, so please don't make us enforce it.

-Talking about your role after death or to those who have died IS NOT allowed.

-Not everything is as it seems. If something unexpected happens, feel free to question it to me in private, and if I can, I'll answer.

We reserve the right to mod kill if we find out that any of these rules have been broken. Please remember that you are not the only one playing this game, so don't ruin it for everyone else!

The mods for this game are Astil and Astil. All PMs regarding abilities, questions or anything else should be sent to both of us. If you fail to communicate your information then I will go on what I have. You have be warned!

Let us all keep in mind that this is a game and should be an enjoyable experience.

Advanced Rules

This game will be a bit different than most mafia games, but not that different than the game just finished: Dust.

Please read.

- This game will be split up into 'hours' to represent the time spent at the convention.

- Each hour will be split into three phases (A, B and C)

- The A phase will be run much like a Day Phase. You will have 24 hours to vote on whom you think is scum. The top three vote getters at the end of this 24 hour phase will 'nominated' for lynch by the mod.
*Votes can be changed during the A Phase.
* To vote type Vote: Player Name. Make sure the vote is bolded
* To change vote type Change Vote: Player Name. Make sure the vote is bolded

- The B phase will be where the mod makes his or her decision on who to lynch. Votes cannot be changed during this phase, but strategy can still be discussed. This phase will last 24 hours or until the judge makes his decision.

- The C phase will be run much like a Night Phase.

- During all three phases players may have actions. There will be a write up at the end of each phase.

- Special thanks to i effin rule for his fantastic Dust games which gave me the inspiration for this platform. I hope he doesn't mind me taking some o his ideas.

He walked in from the bitter cold, jet lagged and annoyed. Why was the stupid convention being held in this city? When he heard it was being held in the famous Hollywood Hotel he thought that he'd be going to … Hollywood.

He could sense the disappointment in the air as he set up his equipment in the foyer. Looking around he shook his head. Some people took this stuff way too seriously.

The group had met at the airport by accident. They ended up chatting on the bus, and also as they walked into the convention. The conversation stopped when they looked around. The costumes ranged from subtle to full fledged ridiculous. They split up, all having the same thought: we need to work on our costumes!

His speech was to occur at 4:30, but Astil was mingling around the group. A lot of people he respected had shown up. With a grin he walked backstage, unknowing that his convention was going to be ruined.

"Nor'easter blizzard on it's way! Twenty feet of snow expected in the next ten hours!"



He went to reply to the text but saw a foreboding message on his phone: "No Service"

There was a murmuring in the crowd as the speech to start the festivities was supposed to start ten minutes ago. A familiar techno song filled to airwaves as a Jeff Hardy attire clad Astil danced on to the stage.



"Welcome to the 2012 Scummies and welcome to the GDS Mafia Convention!"




The crowd begin to cheer with gusto. Astil put a single hand up to calm them down.




Then the lights went out. A maniacal laughing was heard. The lights came back on and there was confusion and panic.




"Everyone calm -"




BANG! Astil slumped forward, still, motionless.




"Funniest player my postcount." A shadowy figure snuck back into the crowd.




One man jumped forward.




"NEVER FEAR! I SHALL RIGHT THIS WRO-GAAH!"




Lasers, electricity and even a folding chair hurled towards Astil 2.0, and even his superhero costume could not save him.




The convention was in jeopardy, but they would come together…




…or they would die alone.

I've lost track of American timezones but I'm pretty sure US Eastern and UK time are 5 hours apart just now. If it helps, the timestamp in UK time on the post quoted there was 8:20. It probably only helps me, but if there's going to be any confusion about timezones I'm not only gonna start it but I'm gonna end it too. :p

The EST time is most likely the right one, just the UK time would likely need to be adjusted. I always assume the mods know their own correct time, it's always those pesky other places that cause trouble. :)

There is nothing peaceful about Hartford, so of course it wouldn't remain the most peaceful branch for long! They got a reputation to keep :P

Depends on the makeup of the groups. One big group would knock it down to 2 with an SK. We'll know more once we know what we're dealing with.

What if, as test for D1, we take 6 players in numerical order (starting at any number) and use that as a "base". Anyone with proactive night actions can target one of the 6 and we'd have a much better chance or eliminating scum, as there should be 2 players out f 6 that are scum (but I'd wager that at least one will be).


Just an idea. I figure trying to pick a player to look into from a list 0f 40 is daunting, but if we could narrow the list down we might be more effective.

I admit I'm mildly surprised that IER put this plan forward. Not sure if there are any implications there, but IER being the author of this plan makes me more suspicious than most (as I tend to believe that he'd know that that directing everyone to a small group of players has implications for freeing up/directing scum activities).

Also, for about a year, I don't have very big post counts. Look at the 2011 games.

I guess it comes down to when Astil made the game and how far my reputation carries. I haven't been a consistent Top 5 poster in a long while.

I recall him slipping up once in a game and typing something to the effect that he could have been playing one account as a town aligned and another as part of the the scum group. I recall seeing him make some kind of post like that, me pointing out the possibility, and nothing was ever said, and I don't think he ever played again as Jim Force after that.

That's not true... I'd rather you voted for The Two. If I were Astil I would only count the vote of the person you actually end up on at the end of your post. Would be nice to get some clarification though.
