View Full Version : Psychological Problems

I don't know exactly what's going on but I've started two games since the new demo was released yesterday and my psychological state keeps getting dangerously low. On the first game as Cosmic Girl my psych was dropping continuously until it was at 8%, which is when I started a new game as Big Chill.
In the Cosmic Girl game I had almost zero stress and average social and romantic numbers, which I was trying to work on by meeting with people and getting new friends. In the Big Chill game my stress has gone crazy high for whatever reason, my romantic is good and social is average. I don't know what to do to relieve the stress, recuperating seems to make it worse?
I obviously suck at this game, can someone give me some tips?

A quick fix is to just turn that feature off.

It is a nice fix, thanks.
I had to turn it off. Psychological state plummeted with Big Chill. Breakdown by issue 10.

Big Chill has a secret identity (if I recall correctly), have a look to see how safe it is as that will cause problems if you don't deal with it.
Undertaker's right. Morale is something that takes a bit of getting used to but it is manageable. Really, you need to be looking at more than just the overall rating - it's just a number based on the rest of the stats. Is your stress too high? Is your social too low? Is your fulfillment at 0%? I've managed to get my morale back from ~10% back up to 100%, so again it is possible to increase it, you've just got to focus on it for a bit.
If your fulfillment is low, track some low level villains, get some WOTS news items and find an easy scheme to foil, do some civic work. If your social score is low stop trying to befriend someone who doesn't like you and stick to people who already do. If you have an awful secret identity rating do nothing but appear as a civilian until it gets to above 75%.

I had no trouble whatsoever with Cosmic Girl (starting with firends makes keeping her happy very easy), but Big Chill and Rachel Noir went down FAST for me. Especially Rachel, as I couldn't make a friend fast enough to balance it. Too bad, I liked the way I played her against hoodlums and low-level gang members. Maybe the social satisfaction rating is plummeting a bit too fast for my taste.

You can't spend every night patrolling. I usually do a 1:3 ratio where I spend 3 nights early on trying to make some contacts for each night I patrol as Rachel.
Once I built up a network of friends and allies (teamed up with the MMA guy, befriended Mikey so he would give me WOTS) then it is easier to patrol every day or every other day and have a reliable chance of meeting up with friends to burn off some stress.
I will say that civilians are awfully hard to find considering they don't do anything. Even with Manhunter and Rachel's awesome cunning it takes me about 3-5 tries to find Micky who's only a lvl 2 civilian :(

Oh, I did try to befriend Mikey ... that miserable lowlife wouldn't give me the time of the day ! Maybe I just suck at making friends in CBH :D

Been using Rachel. My psych hasn't been stellar, a friend died and I went through a long period of her resting then trying to make new friends, all the while my social and fullfillment plummetted.
But for now! It's back on the upswing. I hang out with the civie lady every now and then, and started her a relationship with Flashing Blade. And fullfillment shot up by cracking down on a couple of eays schemes from the local gangs. Even threw The Soothsayer's old butt into an asylum.
Her's does seem like it'd be harder. She isn't very social and you can't do civic work to boost fullfillment when you are banged up.

You've got to look at your personality versus theirs. If it's strong, you go higher intensity, if it's not you try lower intensity and hope.
Micky has an opposing personality so if you do approach at minimum intensity right from the start he'll rebuff you. Even if you do, it's a crap shoot if he'll friend up or not and raising friendship with him is HAAAARD. I'd recommend finding like minded individuals.
On that note, I will say that anti-heroes should be far more resilient to social pressures then heroes. I don't remember Punisher having a breakdown because he didn't have any friends ;)

Yeah, I was able to get friends and a romance with the Irish guy using Nicky Noir by lowering the intensity to about 25%. I guess it's because Nicky comes off as being really suspicious, so you have to downplay her personality.

Pyschology ain't too bad... I've managed to keep it relatively balanced. Still, I'm having a hard time raising it higher than the yellow "meh" face, namely because attempting to socialize what-so-ever is non-stop interrupted by ambushes, and if it's a tough fight I'm gonna be forced to recuperate some, and if I lose said tough fight then my fulfillment plummets.
Seems you can go a couple days without actively patrolling, doing civic work, or tracking down a bad guy before your fullfillment starts to erode.
Gotta think when ambush frequency gets lowered in the next patch, it'll make balancing psychological stuff out less of a chore. I like it as a game element, turning it off removes a lot of the purpose for interacting socially/romantically with folks. But right now... well, it's really not fun to try and meet up with someone twice, and the first time HaemoGoblin beats the crap out of you and then the very next time Ares does the same.
