Proposal
The ability for players to be able to swap out from their current character and select a different character to continue their game with.
Case for it
It would extend a player's current game (no restart)
It would provide an option for players who dislike or have grown tired of their current character
It would allow players an opportunity to test characters without it being deemed some kind of a "commitment"
Additional Notes
Of course, there lies the possibility for abuse of the system (e.g., Swap to CharA to benefit CharB and then swap to CharB). Taking that into account, I offer these potential additions:
Do nothing
The old "if they want to abuse their game, let them abuse it" type of approach. Probably not my favorite, but it's always there.
Security by Obscurity
Have the option of it locked away, and only being available via some hidden cheat code/easter egg or something. It works, but then it also seems a bit insulting for something that could be such a big feature and possibly require lots of effort to realize to not even be officially mentioned.
Time Lock
After swapping to a character, disallow the player from swapping again for a certain period of time, so that "hacking the system" provides diminishing returns.
Increased Requirements
Up the costs of swapping characters, so that you need to spend x amount of hero points, or some other form of in-game currency, so that you can't just swap willy-nilly.
