Just looking at the possibilities in the game, and there are certain things that we cannot do obviously... Such as simulate Darkseid's "Boom Tube" (It travels to Apocolypse, which is in a different dimension somewhere between here and hell, called the Fourth World: It only goes there, like an escape pod), realms that are connected to other realms that are not connected to each other (gateways), such as Rock of Eternity (Shazam's) that is a doorway to other dimensions or planes of existance, such as Hell, Heaven, Abyss, etc.

In Greek Mythology and Fantasy games, the river Styx ran through the lower planes, .. a way to go to hell and back. Certain planes of existance touched other's, and thus a person (if they could survive in the plane) could just walk/fly/swim/will their way from one plane to the next. Certain gateways similar to blackholes are found in many area's, that allow for one to simply step through to another plane of existance, or dimension.

The only way I can think of doing that, is be being able to place "Special" locations in two seperate area's or Dimensions, or Timeframes, or all three. That would cover any location that I can think of anyways.... and any that need more would just have to have an identifier with it, and share at least one of these area's to be able to connect them all. An example would be the first layer of the Abyss (in fantasy, there are 666 layers of the Abyss, each with specific demons, ranging from blistering cold, to volcanic, to apocolyptic conditions), which connects to the River Styx, and the layer below it. The layer below it then connects with it, and the third layer, and so forth... If you find yourself on the 666th layer of the Abyss, you will find that, without special powers or devices, you will have to go through each layer on the way out. To travel to Asguard, there is a special bridge that connects to dimensions or planes of existance.

I couldn't think of a way to do this with the current system.

+1.

It would be nice to have conditional travel be available to characters based on an environment, not because of some inherent travel ability.

Bassically point on. The easiest thing I could think of is to make an option to "Connect" to another location or location's, that would make the "special" location available to anyone that is in one of the "connected" locations, ignoring the ATD. These "Special" locations would make travel possible to any of the connected locations, ignoring the ATD as well. BUT back and forth travel only possible if both locations have each other as a connection... which would allow for a "Bermuda's Triangle" type location if someone so desired... where entering this location trapped you, till you found a way to get out by travelling to locations connected to it... till one connected you back where you wanted to be.

I just feel that it could add alot more to the game then what is now possible... Imagine someone being lost in an elemental, spiritual, mythological/time area of the game, trying to figure out how to get back (could always look at the "Edit" area if you were really having problems). Batman lost in WWII era, fighting alongside Captain America, or in the Wild West with Jonah Hex. In a fantasy setting, this could simply be different levels of a Dungeon. Setting the connections between Level 1 and level 2, level 2 and level 3, and only through these connections can you get to the next level (or back).
