View Full Version : Enemy Focus on Player

Maybe this has been addressed in another thread but I didn't see it.

Playing the demo it's been my experience that enemies will constantly focus on the player. I'm currently in the middle of a fight with Neutrina as Big Chill with Miss Fortuna and Miss Atomic as allies. Without fail, every round, Neutrina has attacked Big Chill. She hasn't touched the other two, but knocked Chill down to 100 health. This has been my experience in every multi-character fight. The enemies will always focus on the character to high degree if not exclusively until the player is knocked out of the battle.

That'd be fine if your allies focused fired as well. But it's been my experience that they don't. They'll spread around the attacks hitting most of the enemies, without taking the aggro from the enemies until the player has been knocked out of the fight.

It kind of makes multi-character fights aggravating. The main character is ganged up on by all the enemies until KO'd. The Allies AI doesn't focus fire and are eventually picked off by the higher odds, and then you have to spend five-ten turns recuperating your health. I get that there's probably an element of AI and randomness, but something seems off that nine out of ten (or ten out of ten attacks in the current battle) attack the player and not any other ally.

That's because Big Chill has an attribute that specifically makes opponents target him. They're not ganging up on the player, they're ganging up on the Natural Target.

I've been in a number of multi-character fights with a hero that doesn't have those kinds of attributes and the targeting from the AI enemies has been as scattered as it is from the AI heroes.

Hmm. I didn't know that. My bad.

I did see a lot of this when playing as Rachel Noir too though. Not nearly as bad, but I still seemed to get over 50% of enemy attention.

I guess I'll start a new game. Big Chill isn't very fun to play as when I get knocked out of battles within five rounds.

With Noir then it's probably just your bad luck. I've had quite a few 3 vs. 3 (and higher, with the record being 5 vs. 4) fights and I've never been noticeably targeted more than my comrades - in fact in the 5 vs. 4 I was hardly attacked at all.

In my game, I'm playing a teenage wizard and there have been fights where they haven't hit me at all.

Targeting doesn't take into account whether the character is controlled by the player or not; if someone is singled out it's because of their stats only.

I have played a banished god character and he tends to have significantly more health than everyone else he works with. He tends to be only about half health by the time his last teammate gets knocked out.

So... I think either the computer splits attacks or they ignore the target who is most difficult to knock out until last.
