View Full Version : How do you win?

I am playing as Rachel Noir, and I keep getting ambushed and such by people way more powerful than me. I can hardly ever seem to win a fight. Also, during group fights, their team always target me instead of my ally. I can hardly do anything in the game.

Is Rachel Noir supposed to be super hard mode or something? I cannot seem to win any fights whatsoever. They always dodge my attacks and I can never dodge their attacks.

Up your agility and reactions.

Use the hand to hand takedowns against the more agile characters (Money Spider).

These two things helped me turn Rachel Noir into an Iconic anti-hero who has managed to go toe to toe with HaemoGoblin - one of the nastiest nasties that grace Ravenhome- and win. On several occasions.

Noir has a good main attack, but I agree with upping her agility and reactions - I found that really made her a stronger opponent for a lot of characters, as so many rely on physical attacks.

As you get better, consider adding in a range of low-level attacks - you get bonus rolls once you start hitting four different attacks on the hop, for example. I have (off the top of my head) my guns and grapple attack, as well as a stun attack (stun grenade), a heat attack (flamethrower) and a physical weapon attack (billy clubs) all of which tie in to Noir's ex-police character - at least in my mind. The lower damage from weaker attacks is, to my mind, offset by the higher chance of hitting those attacks, and I consider it a more worthwhile investment of your HP then levelling up your already-powerful Handgun Blast.

You can also move from Ravenholme, which is a pretty inhospitable place. Diddly Squat is much easier. Alternatively, just focus on the low-level goons unless you have partners to take on patrol with you. Risktaker and Combat Wombat should respond well to low-intensity friendship approaches. RT is a useful ally to have for his reasoning skills as he can often crack puzzles that Noir can't. Wombat, meanwhile, is much tougher than Noir to start and can generally mop up any messes you can't handle.

I did a profile on Noir here (http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1727839&postcount=8) which includes my tips for playing as her just as I was starting to get going. Hope that helps!

I tried that and got my Agility and Reactions as high as I could get with the 5000 points you have to spend. It was not enough. I keep getting ambushed by people that are way out of my league (Vicki Hate, Sulfur, etc.) I have no way of dodging their attacks even after dumping all 5000 points into Agility and Reactions. There is simply no way.

I regret buying this game. It is impossible to play and it just plain sucks. I wish I could get my money back. I guess I will try to sell my license or something. Only thing I can do to get my money back. Without 700+ Reactions and Agility anyone can defeat you easily. And if they have that high in those scores, you can never touch them.

This just really sucks. I want my money back. It seemed okay during the trial, but I was expecting more.

P.S. How do you unlicense the game? I am going to be selling mine.

My experience has been totally opposite. I found the game to be good 'ol fashion fun, and for a lack of better words at the moment... easy.

Have you tried starting as a character with a higher popularity? You get more dice rolls meaning you have more chance of hitting/defending :)

The other problem playing as Noir for rookies is her fearless crusader attribute. This means you are vulnerable to just about everybody in the villain-happy Ravenholme. The level limit is off with that attribute.

Also, Noir is not particularly tough. Each hit means a much greater percentage loss of health with her.

Might one suggest playing as a new level 1 starting character without that attribute to see how the game can be before giving up and declaring it unbalanced.

It also helps to have a character that makes friends. That is not Rachel.

/nod... Playing as one of the few people that can go after anyone at all, and just going after anyone at all reguardless of level, your destined to fail. It's explained in the attribute itself, but perhaps that is something the OP missed?

Am I the only one absolutely SHOCKED that DGL can't figure out how to play this game, and got frustrated after trying one character?

It's just a matter of persistance (and it helps to attack lower level thugs early on to keep your popularity stable if you have problems winning).

Proof you can succeed with Noir, in Ravenholme no less:

I hate Cape Killer so much...

But yeah, he's right. Admittedly I've put in around 800 issues with Noir, but at this point I can actually squeak out solo victories against folks like Emperor Verendus now, and most of the Ravenholme crew are lucky if they hit me once before they drop.

I always laugh at Cape Killer...if it wasn't for that oooone attribute he'd be such a push over :D

Motor Mouth tends to be a bit of a handicap too. Especially when taunting seems to be best useful when you need energy-costing powers.

Motor Mouth tends to be a bit of a handicap too. Especially when taunting seems to be best useful when you need energy-costing powers.

Pay attention to how the AI taunts in gang groups - two or three folks will continually attack you/another guy like Combat Wombat while one logs 1-2 taunts. This allows them to actually, y'know, connect - and that's the primary use of taunting.

There are circumstances where the same thing's useful for you - even with high-level attacks and good defence, folks like Easter and Green Orchid give me trouble, and a two-Taunt attack will hit (excepting their dodge power, of course) and hit hard enough to be worth the time.

Taunting is seldom the right option, but when it is, it's very useful.
