The Reason And The Goal
I am sure that many of you simply looked at the title of this thread and there was a collective groan. Just how many diaries is this guy gonna have? Isn't this just overkill? Just how many times is he going to create new diaries? Does he really expect us to read this? These are probably common questions moving through everyone's mind right now. They are fair questions. I can only hope that some of you will stick with me here as I have a goal in mind.

Since the first TEW and my Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling diaries, I have been a fan of the promotion that became WCW. But the fact of the matter remains that I have not completed one full in-game year with any promotion, including NWA. So that has become my mission now. That has become my focus. That has become my drive, my need, my passion. That is The Goal.

Why a second diary? Why NWA 1989? Quite simply because this promotion is the most fun I've had outside of USPW. It is the second promotion that I always fall back to. It's a promotion that I know almost like the back of my hand in a way. Out of all the promotions, it's the second promotion that I enjoy playing and the number one RW promotion. And I really enjoy running a RW promotion alongside a Cornellverse one.

Now you have come to the beginning...

P.S. Constructive criticism and praise are welcomed herein about almost anything. I will listen to all comments/thoughts/ideas/etc. However, comments such as 'you create too many diaries,' 'you restart too much,' and anything along those lines of thinking will be ignored as this is the current plan and I am looking forward to one year in-game in both diaries I am running. And any comments about any of my other diaries can please be sent to pm, rather than posted on here as well. I would appreciate that and thank you ahead of time.

NWA World Tag Team Titles Match: The Fabulous Freebirds defend vs. Flyin' Brian and Z-Man
Comment: While the Freebirds were great, I can't go against Flyin' Brian or Z-Man. Z-Man for NWA title!

Bill Irwin and Scott Hall vs. The Steiners
Comment: The Steiners hands down, Scott or Rick could be tag team champs in the near future me thinks.

'Cowboy' Bob Orton vs. Ole Anderson
Comment: Ole. Come on, who doesn't bet on an Anderson?

Non Title: Mike Rotundo vs. Ric Flair
Comment: Well since I think we all know who's going to win here, I'm to pull a wildcard and say Mike Rotundo! Here's hoping for a DQ victory!

NWA POWER HOUR!
Thursday Week 1 September 1989
Location: American Bank Center (Mid South)
Attendance: 10,000
Overall Rating: B+
TV Rating: 1.55

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/luger.jpg

[This edition of the NWA Power Hour begins with the crowd booing the arrival of the NWA United States Heavyweight Champion 'The Total Package' Lex Luger. Luger comes down to the ring ignoring the fans and entering inside with a microphone in hand. He tells the fans to shut their mouths and listen to the man with the greatest body in the National Wrestling Alliance. He talks about holding the United States Heavyweight title since May and he's beaten the best there is in this business, including men like Ricky Steamboat. Right now there's not another wrestler in the NWA that is good enough to have a match with him. But the music that plays, interrupting his speech shows that someone disagrees with him.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/JYD.jpg

[The man known as 'JYD', Junkyard Dog, comes out to a roaring ovation from the crowd. JYD gets up in the face of Luger and talks about how he hasn't received a title shot lately. So why doesn't the Total Package step in the ring with the Dog? Because every dog has his day and Fall Brawl will be the day of the Junkyard Dog. Luger answers the challenge with a 'yes!' and then he strikes JYD with a clothesline! He puts the boots to his challenger again and again before picking him up and sending him to the ropes -- forearm shot -- ducked! JYD grabs Luger -- Headbutt! Headbutt! Headbutt! Luger goes down and rolls out of the ring, grabbing the U.S. title belt! The crowd cheers as JYD goes down on all fours in the ring, barking at Luger.]

NWA World Tag Team Titles Match
The Fabulous Freebirds defend vs. Flyin' Brian and Z-Man

[Our opening contest here on NWA Power Hour is for the NWA World Tag Team titles. Flyin' Brian and Z-Man show some definite chemistry teaming together in this match as they take on the veteran Freebirds. The fans like the team as the cameras show one sign in particular for Flyin' Brian: 'Air Pillman!' The match, though, is mostly dominated by Michael Hayes and Jimmy Garvin. Hayes and Garvin play to the crowd as they have Brian down inside the ring. Hayes takes Z-Man off the apron with a punch and then the Freebirds set up Brian -- Spike Piledriver! Hayes makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

[Up next the announcers let us know that we are going to have a very special interview with 'Dr. Death' Steve Williams! Williams walks out to a very good ovation from the crowd but he doesn't make it very far. Instead about halfway down the ramp he is assaulted from behind by the man known as the 'Beast From The East' Bam Bam Bigelow! Bigelow rams Williams into the guardrail and then picks him up and body slams him on the padding on the floor! Williams grabs his back, though, he is concerned one of the toughest men in professional wrestling. Bigelow drops an elbow and then stands over 'Dr. Death' with a little glare right down at him. Bigelow absorbs the boos from the crowd, shaking his head and yelling at a few fans before he walks off.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/barrywindham2.jpg

[The crowd gets really pumped up when a video begins to play of a returning wrestler to the NWA. That returning wrestler is none other than Barry Windham! Windham was last seen as a member of the Four Horsemen back in March of this year. The video announces his return this Saturday night on World Championship Wrestling! But what will he have to say upon his return?]

Bill Irwin and Scott Hall vs. The Steiners

[Our second matchup of the night is more tag team action as The Steiners step into the ring to take on the unusual team of 'Wild' Bill Irwin and 'Magnum' Scott Hall. The Steiners take care of business early and often in this match with both Irwin and Hall falling to moves like the Steinerline, overhead belly to belly suplexes. Scott drops Hall with a tilt-a-whirl slam and then tags out to Rick, bringing Hall up on his shoulders. Rick climbs the turnbuckles -- Steiner Bulldog on Hall brings Hall crashing to the mat. Rick makes the quick cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

[We are taken to another video. This one was taken earlier tonight in the parking lot of this very building! The video shows The Road Warriors along with their manager Paul Ellering brawling outside with The Skyscrapers along with their manager Teddy Long! Ellering, of course, gets the upper hand on Long but neither the Road Warriors nor The Skyscrapers can gain a solid upper hand on each other. Officials come running, including police officers, to break up this battle between two of the toughest tag teams in professional wrestling. It is announced that these teams will do battle at Fall Brawl in a pinfalls count anywhere match!]

'Cowboy' Bob Orton vs. Ole Anderson

[Our next match of the evening features two strong brawling heavy hitters that have been around for quite awhile. The match is our semi main event but could have been a main event anywhere in the country. The match was back and forth for only a little more than five minutes. Anderson set up Orton for the Gourdbuster but Orton used the ropes and then gave Anderson a thumb to the eyes. Anderson knocked into the referee, which gave a clear opening for some cheating tactics from Orton. Orton reached into his trunks and pulled something out, smashing Anderson with what is revealed to be a roll of quarters as the quarters sprinkle the mat! Orton grabs the referee and brings him down, making the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

[We are taken to a video of a locker room setting where Kevin Sullivan and Mike Rotundo are warming up as Rotundo is in tonight's main event. Sullivan works on psyching up Rotundo, telling him to go out there and get this win for the Varsity Club and for the University of Syracuse! Rotundo looks at Sullivan and nods, dropping into an amateur wrestling stance. Sullivan smiles and pats Rotundo on the back. He tells him that tonight he is going to walk away from the ring having beaten the NWA World Heavyweight Champion on the hottest place in professional wrestling: the NWA. When Rotundo walks away, Sullivan asks himself why he doesn't have a match with the World Champ.]

Sting and announcer Jim Ross. Of course Jim Ross asks Sting about The Great Muta and the NWA World Television title that was held up following the controversial ending to a Sting/Muta match. Sting says that the J-Tex Corporation likes to cheat and they managed to make a bit of a fool out of the Stinger. Well, not anymore. At Fall Brawl, Sting is going to prove that he can beat Muta in a one on one environment. If the J-Tex Corporation wants to get involved? Then he is going to make sure that he has some friends to watch his back.]

Mike Rotundo vs. Ric Flair

[Our main event contest for the evening and this is a good one as two of the top technical wrestlers in the business go at it one on one. Flair starts off strong against Rotundo, bringing him back in the corner and lighting up his chest with knife edge chops! Rotundo takes three and then moves out of the corner, quickly bringing Flair down with a double leg takedown. The two men move down to the mat and exchange holds again and again with neither man maintaining an advantage for very long until some well-timed interference by Kevin Sullivan. This brought Rotundo in the driver's seat. He switched out to some submission moves like the armbar and a backbreaker but couldn't get Flair to submit. He whipped Flair into the turnbuckles and Flair flipped over them. Flair ran down the apron and climbed the turnbuckles, getting caught by Rotundo but he turned a body slam attempt into a small package for a two count!]

[Flair started to take control here when both men got to their feet. He lit up Rotundo's chest with knife edge chops and brought him down with a snap mare and a kick to the back. Then he bounced off the ropes -- diving knee drop connects and Flair struts, releasing a 'Whooooo' that gets echoed by the crowd. Flair picks up Rotundo and drops him to the mat following a shinbreaker. Flair goes for the legs -- Figure 4 Leglock! Kevin Sullivan goes crazy outside the ring! Sullivan tries to reach in and pull Rotundo to the ropes. He tries everything to interfere from outside the ring but Rotundo is in such agony. Rotundo gives up! Rotundo gives up!]

Winner: Ric Flair (Via Submission @ 6:40)
Match Rating: B+

[A huge win for the NWA World Heavyweight Champion 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair! He releases the hold and Mike Rotundo rolls out of the ring only to be berated by his tag team partner Kevin Sullivan! The crowd cheers Flair, though, as he is handed his NWA World Heavyweight title belt and he raises it up to more cheers from the crowd. Flair gives a strut inside the ring and releases a 'Whoooooo' to an echo and more cheers from this American Bank Center crowd. What a way to finish the NWA Power Hour! Wait a second...The cheers turn to boos as two men enter the ring behind Flair.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/garyhart.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/terryfunk2.jpg

[Gary Hart hits Flair with a low blow, sending the NWA World Heavyweight Champion down to his knees. Terry Funk stands over Flair for a moment and then puts the boots to him! Funk lifts Flair -- Texas Piledriver! Flair grabs his head and neck area in obvious pain as Funk moves to stand to his own feet. Gary Hart raises Terry Funk's arm in victory as they stand over the fallen body of Ric Flair. Funk looks down at the NWA World Heavyweight title and smiles, obviously thinking that the belt will be coming to the Double Cross Ranch very soon. The crowd boos. What a horrible way to end NWA Power Hour! We'll see you on Friday for NWA Worldwide and Saturday for World Championship Wrestling!]

Varsity Club vs. The Steiners

[Our show opens with the entrances of two of the top teams in the National Wrestling Alliance: Varsity Club and The Steiners. The match itself is mostly a technical showcase with both teams showing they can take to the mat when it's necessary. At one point, Rick Steiner clears the ring with a couple of Steinerlines, getting the crowd definitely riled up. Rotundo and Sullivan nearly get a pinfall when Sullivan rolls Scott Steiner up in a small package but it's only a two count. In the end of the match, Sullivan is lifted on Scott Steiner's shoulders. Scott tags out to his brother Rick, who ascends the turnbuckles -- Steiner Bulldog! Rick makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

This must be the Doom she talked about bringing to The Steiners! The two members of Doom attack and take out both Rick and Scott Steiner, ending with a double shoulderblock on Rick and a powerslam on Scott, bringing him hard to the mat. Tonight right here in the Charles Koch Arena Ric Flair is going to be in action against 'Cowboy' Bob Orton. Orton, tonight, you're gonna have to walk that aisle and face the best wrestler in the world today, the World Champion. Whooooo. The Samoan Swat Team vs. Midnight Express

[Our second match of the evening is another tag team encounter as The Samoan Swat Team goes up against the experienced team of the Midnight Express. This match is a hard hitting brawl for both teams. The Express make the mistake of trying to hit the heads of the Samoans and that doesn't really work out too well for the fan favorites. Both Bobby Eaton and Stan Lane take headbutts from Samu and Fatu. But it wasn't too far into the bout that the Midnight Express took control for good. Fatu was knocked off the apron and Bobby Eaton headed to the top turnbuckle, launched onto Samu by his partner Stan Lane in the Rocket Launcher! Eaton made the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

As the view comes into focus, Sting and The Great Muta are exchanging punches out in the parking lot! Sting starts to get some control over Muta and whips him toward one of the cars. Muta winces in pain after hitting the backside of a vehicle. Sting comes over to continue the assault but instead he takes a mist spray to the eyes! Sting grabs at his eyes, blinded by Muta. Sting takes a kick to the head which sends him down to the concrete. Muta puts in a few stomps to the man called Sting before moving away from the scene.]

[We head backstage once again here in the Charles Koch Arena to a locker room area. Inside this locker room, a large body is slammed up against a locker. That large body belongs to Bam Bam Bigelow! Another man comes into focus: Steve Williams! Dr. Death throws strong punches to the side of the head of The Beast From The East. Bigelow throws some punches back as the two continue to brawl. Some referees try to step in and break things up but they get shoved out of the way. Williams picks up Bigelow and body slams him onto the concrete floor! The crowd is in shock! Dr. Death beats his chest until Bigelow trips him. The two continue their fight on the ground as a security force comes in to break things up.]

The Skyscrapers vs. Dynamic Dudes

[The Dynamic Dudes came out to a mediocre applause at best from the fans in attendance here. They are not exactly crowd pleasers but the boos definitely came out for the team of Sid Vicious and Dan Spivey, The Skyscrapers. Vicious and Spivey were dominant against Johnny Ace and Shane Douglas. The Dudes barely got in any offense and when they tried, it was no-sold. Vicious catches Johnny Ace with a big boot and he goes rolling out of the ring and then the focus was on Shane Douglas. Theodore R. Long watched with pride at ringside as Dan Spivey enters the ring and sets up Douglas -- Spiked Power Bomb! The force of both Vicious and Spivey sends Douglas crashing down to the mat. Vicious makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

[As soon as the bell sounds, The Skyscrapers don't get a chance to celebrate their victory. Instead, Hawk and Animal, along with Paul Ellering hit the ring and attack Sid Vicious and Dan Spivey! It is a vicious assault by The Road Warriors but The Skyscrapers fight back! The brawl spills slowly outside the ring with Animal choking Spivey on the guardrail! Hawk comes flying off the apron with a clothesline to Sid Vicious! Paul Ellering holds back Theodore R. Long from interfering in the battle. Referees and some wrestlers spill out of the locker room to break things up. This is definitely dangerous!]

["Badstreet, Atlanta G A!" The music of Badstreet can only mean one thing. It means the arrival of the NWA World Tag Team Champions The Fabulous Freebirds! The Freebirds, Michael 'P.S.' Hayes and Jimmy 'Jam' Garvin, hit the ring, sliding up on the turnbuckles and raising their tag team title belts. The crowd boos The Freebirds but they don't seem to either notice or care. Hayes gets on the microphone and talks about the history of the Fabulous Freebirds. He mentions the Freebirds Rule, which talks about a trio of wrestlers holding titles and wrestling for each other. During almost all of their time together, The Freebirds have been a trio. Tonight they are getting back to that. Tonight they are having one of their own return to the fold. Tonight they welcome back...]

[Terry 'Bam Bam' Gordy! Gordy heads down to the ring and joins Hayes and Garvin inside the ring. He shakes their hands and then stands in the background with his arms crossed over his chest. Hayes gets back on the microphone and tears into the Midnight Express as being the past but here in the present the Freebirds are going to rule this company with an iron and three handed fist.]

[Jim Ross and James E. Cornette explain that they are about to be joined at the commentary desk for this next match by the #1 contender to the NWA United States Heavyweight title Junkyard Dog! JYD comes out to cheers from the crowd and gives some high fives to the fans before he gets assaulted from behind by the NWA United States Heavyweight Champion 'The Total Package' Lex Luger! Luger throws in some forearm shots to the back before ramming JYD's head against the guardrail. Luger grabs his opponent at Fall Brawl and lifts him up on his shoulders -- Human Torture Rack! Luger racks JYD again and again. JYD cries out in pain but Luger holds on to the rack. Finally officials come down and break things up. Luger sets JYD down and then smashes him in the nose with a forearm shot to send him right down to the mats below. Luger turns and flexes, making his way down to the ring where his opponent is waiting.]

Lex Luger vs. Jason Knight

[The Total Package runs in the ring and assaults Jason Knight early and often in this match. This wasn't even so much of a match as a show of the talent of Lex Luger. Luger body slams Knight to the mat and then flexes to boos from the crowd. Luger seems to smile at the boos. He picks up Knight and whips him to the ropes -- Powerslam! Luger gets up and motions for the Human Torture Rack! He picks Jason Knight up to his feet -- Human Torture Rack! It's only moments before Knight gives up.]

Barry Windham! Windham comes out from the back and high fives a few fans walking right down to the ring and stepping inside. He comes face to face with Luger for a moment. Then he steps back and is offered a microphone. He talks with Luger, telling him that he's going down the wrong path. He says that the two of them have been best friends for a very long time. He doesn't like the path that Luger is going down. Luger just stares at him and then pats the NWA United States Heavyweight title belt. Windham just nods to Luger and pats him on the back, exiting the ring. Luger leaves with a confused look on his face.]

[As the ring cleared, the crowd booed at the ring music that began to play. The #1 contender to the NWA World Heavyweight title: Terry Funk comes out from the back and heads to the ring. The man from the Double Cross Ranch has a microphone inside the ring and he talks about the yellow belly that is Ric Flair. He says that the banana-nosed Flair, if he has any guts, should come out to this ring and face him. It's just him inside this ring. There's no one else here, not even Gary Hart. Funk's words were interrupted by music but it wasn't Ric Flair.]

[Ole Anderson, another member of the Horsemen came out from the back. Anderson enters the ring and comes face to face with Terry Funk. Anderson talks about the history between the Horsemen and the Funks. Or even just the Andersons and the Funks. Anderson and Funk go back and forth on the microphone and at the end of the day they make the decision that next week, it will be Terry Funk vs. Ole Anderson right here on World Championship Wrestling! The segment ends without any fighting.]

The Great Muta vs. 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert

[Our semi main event is a pretty good one between two top wrestlers here in the NWA. The Great Muta comes to the ring first and shows off some martial arts kicks alongside Gary Hart. Eddie Gilbert and Missy Hyatt come out next. As Gilbert is talking to Hyatt, Muta comes over and sprays mist into the face of Missy Hyatt! Hyatt screams and goes down off the apron to the floor, grabbing at her eyes. Gilbert sees it and goes right after Muta. The brawl is on between these two but Gilbert's anger blinds him and he walks right into a kick from The Great Muta. Muta takes control and heads to the top turnbuckles -- missle dropkick! Muta scores a two count. A sign is held up by a fan: 'we want a fireball!' Muta continues his control as Missy Hyatt is still trying to recover from the misting. Muta heads to the top turnbuckle and leaps off -- back elbow -- dodged! Gilbert dodged the back elbow and Muta hits the mat hard. Gilbert goes right after Muta with punches. He maintains control and then goes over to check on Missy Hyatt. He waves toward the back and Scott Steiner comes out, helping Missy toward the back. As he does that, we see a sign in the crowd: 'Hotstuff Tonight!' But Muta recovered and caught Gilbert with a kick to the back of the head. Muta climbs the turnbuckles -- Moonsault Press! Muta turns it into a pincover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

[As Gary Hart enters the ring to celebrate The Great Muta's victory, some other music begins to play! The crowd gets pumped as the man called Sting comes running toward the ring. The Great Muta exits the ring and slips through the crowd but he left Gary Hart inside the ring! Sting grabs Hart and whips him into the turnbuckles -- Stinger Splash! Hart falls to the mat and rolls out of the ring before Sting can grab him for the Scorpion Deathlock. Sting releases a howl to the crowd and beats his chest as he stands tall all alone in the ring. He stares off in the direction that Muta escaped through.]

NWA World Heavyweight Title Match
Ric Flair defends vs. 'Cowboy' Bob Orton

[It's main event time and what a main event we have right here on World Championship Wrestling! It's a rare treat to see the NWA World Heavyweight title defended on this show but Ric Flair steps inside the ring to face off with 'Cowboy' Bob Orton. The two men meet in the center of the ring and it's technical wrestling to start things off in this match. The Cowboy proves early on that he deserves this shot by maintaining an early advantage, focusing on the arm of Flair. Hammerlocks and armbars are the name of the game early on by Orton. Flair manages to escape an armbar by getting to the ropes, forcing the referee to step in and break the hold. Orton continues his advantage over Flair following the break and scores a near fall after a back suplex. Orton picks up Flair and whips him into the turnbuckle. Flair hits hard and cries out, holding his back, dropping to his knees. He begs off Orton but Orton comes in and throws some punches in the corner. Flair manages to block one and turn the tide on Orton! Flair turns Orton in the corner and laces up his chest with knife edge chops that draw some 'Whoooooo's' from the crowd! Flair tugs Orton out of the corner and hooks him with a vertical suplex -- delayed suplex! The blood rushes to the head of the Cowboy as he is hung upside down before Flair connects with the suplex. Flair rolls over into a cover: 1 -- 2 -- Kickout!]

[This superb match continues forward with the momentum shifting back and forth. Flair does his usual flip over the turnbuckles and runs along the apron to the top turnbuckle but he gets caught and body slammed by Orton. The crowd boos as Orton throws up the horns. Orton goes back to work on the arm of Flair and Flair nearly submits to an armbar. But somehow the Nature Boy manages to make it to the ropes. A major turning point in the match comes when the referee gets caught in a clothesline attempt by Flair that is ducked by Orton. The referee is clobbered and down on the mat. Orton catches Flair with a low blow and then goes over retrieving the rope with the large bell on it. He measures Flair with the bell -- and connects! The ringing sound echoes throughout the arena. Orton is limping slightly on one knee as Flair focused on the knee when he was in control. Orton slides over Flair and makes the cover as the referee comes to: 1 -- 2 -- Shoulder Up! The crowd jumps out of their seats as Flair got the shoulder up! Orton argues with the referee about the count, leaving him open to a clip of the knee by Flair! Flair shakes his arm, trying to get feeling back into it as he gets to his feet. He sees Orton down in the center of the ring and then struts, bouncing off the ropes -- kneedrop! Flair moves over to the legs of Orton -- Figure 4 Leglock! Flair locks in the Figure 4! Orton struggles in the hold, trying to turn it over. He tries to reach for the ropes. But eventually he has to submit!]

Winner: Ric Flair (Via Submission @ 15:30; Ric Flair retains the NWA World Heavyweight title)

[A sign in the audience is shown: 'WWWOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!' as Ric Flair releases the hold and rises to his feet. He raises his uninjured arm and then is handed the NWA World Heavyweight title belt. But suddenly he is not alone in the ring. Terry Funk has come sprinting down to the ring! Funk enters but Flair meets him with chops! Flair backs Funk into the corner and lights up his chest with those knife edge chops! Punches by Flair! Chop! Punch! Chop! Punch! Funk tries to cover up and then kicks Flair with a low blow kick. Flair's eyes go wide and he falls to his knees. That HAD to hurt! Funk smiles as he throws a punch to Flair right between the eyes, bringing Flair down to the mat. Funk stands over Flair, looking down at the NWA World Heavyweight title belt. We're out of time! We'll see you on NWA Power Hour!]

'Cowboy' Bob Orton vs. Brad Armstrong
Comment: "Ace" having just come off a match with the World champion, I don't see him losing to Armstrong now.

Scott Hall vs. Flyin' Brian
Comment: Very tough one, because both guys can be useful in the future if you put them over right, but I think you may run with Brian here; he can make a better impact sooner than Hall.

The Great Muta vs. Tommy Rich
Comment: Seem to be quite a few squashes to this card.

Dick Slater vs. Sting
Comment: So has anyone else seen that Muta's 89 entrance music has popped up on youtube finally after so many years? Its amazing, I'd been hunting that one forever.

Prediction Key:
'Cowboy' Bob Orton vs. Brad Armstrong
Comment: Cowboy Bob seems an obvious winner. Armstrong's weren't known for their winning ways, until that guy on a bike showed up.

Scott Hall vs. Flyin' Brian
Comment: Ouch. Tough one. I'm going to go with who I think should win instead of the guy who might. Go Flyin' Brian!

The Great Muta vs. Tommy Rich
Comment: Tommy Rich? Ha! I laught at Tommy Rich! Now bring on Buzz Sawyer, that man is a legend! Also, Great Muta ruled.

Dick Slater vs. Sting
Comment: I'm going on the off chance that Slater gets a victory via shady stuff. This is the one match I see as being pretty hard to tell. Good luck Dick I suppose.

[The NWA Power Hour begins with a series of video clips taken from last Saturday night's World Championship Wrestling. Just in case you've forgotten what happened that night. The clips feature things like the reunion between Lex Luger and Barry Windham, the return of Terry 'Bam Bam' Gordy to the NWA, the face off between Terry Funk and Ole Anderson, Ric Flair's match with 'Cowboy' Bob Orton and the subsequent attack by Terry Funk and Sting coming out to confront The Great Muta, only to have Muta take off from the ring.]

[The announcers, Gordon Solie and James E. Cornette, welcome everyone to the NWA Power Hour. Tonight we have what will hopefully be a spectacular main event with the veteran 'Dirty' Dick Slater facing off with the hot wrestler in Sting! Cornette picks the former NWA Television Champion Sting to pull off the win, while Solie abstains from picking sides. The crowd cheers at James E. Cornette siding with Sting. No big surprise there. But we have plenty more matches in store for you right here on the NWA Power Hour and it's time to head to the ring for the opening contest.]

'Cowboy' Bob Orton vs. Brad Armstrong

[The opening match is purely a brawl between the two second generation wrestlers. The newcomer, Brad Armstrong, shows some considerable skill in this match, though the match is mostly dominated by The Cowboy. Orton catches Armstrong with several moves, like a full nelson, bear hug and body slam. Orton plays to the crowd for a few moments and then lifts Armstrong up on the top turnbuckle. Orton climbs upward -- Superplex! Orton flips over and makes the cover, hooking the leg: 1 -- 2 -- 3! As the three count was made, a sign can be seen in the background: 'Where's Windham??']

The two men talk about what occured on World Championship Wrestling and then shake hands. Windham says that Luger is going to move to the right side of things. He also says that Luger can be trusted by the fans. Luger spends the interview in various poses in the background where Windham cannot see him. The crowd, in the background, definitely does not know how to take this interview and therefore there is a mixture of boos and cheers for these two wrestlers.]

[The leader of the Fabulous Freebirds and one half of the NWA World Tag Team Champions Michael 'P.S.' Hayes comes out from the back and heads to the ring, ignoring the boos from the crowd. Hayes says that he is here by popular demand. The Freebirds are the best wrestling team and the best rock and roll band of all time. They are proud to be from Badstreet U.S.A. Then he calls out the team that will be facing the Freebirds at Fall Brawl: The Midnight Express. He waits in the ring as the music of the Express begins playing.]

Lane gets on the microphone and asks Hayes what this is all about. Hayes says that the Freebirds never back down from a fight. And out from the crowd come Jimmy 'Jam' Garvin and Terry 'Bam Bam' Gordy! The two men enter the ring and the fight begins between the Freebirds and the Midnight Express! It doesn't take long before the numbers game gets to the Midnight Express. Stan Lane is taken down and thrown over the top rope to the floor. Eaton gets focused on and set up in the ring by Hayes and Garvin -- Spike Piledriver! Eaton is laid out in the center of the ring. Lane comes back in and the Freebirds leave with the damage being done and the message being sent.]

Scott Hall vs. Flyin' Brian

[Our second match of the evening features two younger and up and coming wrestlers as 'Magnum' Scott Hall faces off with 'Flyin' Brian Pillman. This is a definite battle between power versus speed. Some back and forth technical wrestling begins the rather short match. Pillman shows some of his flying skills with a cross body block on Hall. He gets a two count there. The fans are definitely behind Pillman with signs like: 'Fly, Brian!' and 'MY CO-PILOT IS FLYIN' BRIAN!' Pillman goes for a second cross body and Hall catches him in mid-air before throwing him over his head to the other side of the ring. Hall plays to the crowd but this gives Pillman an opportunity to catch his breath. He climbs to the top turnbuckle -- Missle Dropkick! Pillman makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Ellering says that he has the strongest team in professional wrestling: Hawk and Animal and they are led by the smartest man in professional wrestling: Paul Ellering. And they are going to prove that at Fall Brawl when they step in the ring with The Skyscrapers. Hawk says that the Road Warriors are going to knock the tartar off the teeth of The Skyscrapers. [In our third match of the evening, the undefeated Great Muta takes on the former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Tommy 'Wildfire' Rich. Rich is definitely unable to keep up with the swift moves of The Great Muta throughout this just over five minute match. The Pearl Of The Orient shows off his martial arts skills early with several kick variations on Rich. He catches Rich with a double palm thrust and then sends him through the ropes outside the ring. Muta joins him outside and runs him right into the ring post before moving the action back inside the ring. Muta ignores the 'U.S.A' chants that move through the crowd. Outside the ring, Gary Hart tries to get the crowd to be quiet but this only infuriates the crowd more. Muta fires mist into the air and then heads to the top turnbuckle -- Moonsault Press! Cornette inform the fans that Bockwinkel will be appearing on World Championship Wrestling this Saturday night to make a special announcement from the NWA Championship Committee. [We head to another pre-recorded interview. This one features the NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair and Sting! The two men talk about their short history together and agree that they are both people that they can trust at this moment to watch each other's backs against the J-Tex Corporation. Flair shakes Sting's hand and looks him in the eyes telling him that he will be there to watch his back during any moment that the J-Tex Corporation come out to attack him. Sting agrees to the same thing. Tonight, Ric Flair, says they are gonna party alllll night long. Whooooooo!]

Dick Slater vs. Sting

[I][Speaking of Sting versus the J-Tex Corporation, it's time for the main event of the evening as Sting takes on 'Dirty' Dick Slater. As Sting makes hs entrance, he high fives a fan with a sign reading: 'Time to pay the Scorpion!' This match is definitely a candidate for match of the year thus far. The 30 year old Sting shows his quickness early on against Slater, eventually sending him out of the ring with a dropkick. Slater looks to regroup with Gary Hart for a moment before he slides back inside the ring. Sting retakes control with a side headlock. Slater sends him off to the ropes where he is tripped by Gary Hart! Slater takes advantage with an elbow drop to the back of the head. The veteran Slater chokes Sting on the bottom rope and then the second rope. Slater runs and bounces off the ropes leaping onto the back of Sting. Slater makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- Shoulder Up! Gary Hart throws in his support from ringside as the next few minutes show Slater in firm control of the match. The crowd throws in their support for Sting with a chant of his name. Slater sends Sting to the ropes -- clothesline -- ducked! Sting comes back with a flying forearm that sends Slater down!]

[Slater rolls out of the ring and Sting comes over to the ropes -- springboard cross body outside the ring! The crowd stands on their feet, cheering on their favorite face painted wrestler! Sting throws Slater back in the ring and throws some punches. He picks Slater up, twirls around and brings Slater down in a big body slam! Sting plays to the crowd and releases his trademark howl, which they echo back. Sting pulls Slater up and sends him into the turnbuckle. Sting charges -- Stinger Splash in the corner! Slater falls over to the mat and Sting grabs the legs -- Scorpion Deathlock! Sting moves the hold to the center of the ring. Slater reaches for the ropes but they're too far. Slater gives up! He's giving up and the referee calls for the bell!]

Winner: Sting (Via Submission @ 8:56)

[What a wild match between Sting and Dick Slater! But things grow wilder as Terry Funk and The Great Muta come running down and enter the ring. Funk and Muta face off with Sting when the crowd cheers as the NWA World Heavyweight Champion 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair comes running in from the back to join Sting's side in the fight! Flair and Funk exchange chops and punches! Sting and Muta exchange punches! Sting gets Muta in the corner and climbs up beginning to rain punches down on The Great Muta! He scores ten straight right hands and then drops down, throwing Muta out of the ring. On the other side, Flair brings Funk down with a thunderous knife edge chop. He stomps on the knee of Funk and the #1 contender exits the ring quickly. Ric Flair and Sting stand back to back as Funk and Muta join Dick Slater and Gary Hart outside the ring. The face off is where we end the NWA Power Hour. What a show! We'll see you on World Championship Wrestling at 6:05 on Saturday on the Superstation!]

[World Championship Wrestling on Saturday night begins with a recap of what occured recently on NWA Power Hour. The show began with 'Cowboy' Bob Orton defeating Brad Armstrong with a Superplex. Several alliances were formed throughout the show, including an alliance between Lex Luger and Barry Windham and an alliance between Ric Flair and Sting. The main event of the evening was a huge matchup between Sting and 'Dirty' Dick Slater. Slater put up a good fight against Sting but in the end he was nailed with the Stinger Splash and then the Scorpion Deathlock. Following the match, Sting was attacked by Terry Funk and The Great Muta only to be rescued by the NWA World Champion 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair!]

[The show moves inside the Don Haskins Center in the heart of El Paso, Texas. Jim Ross and James E. Cornette welcome everyone to World Championship Wrestling. The camera pans around the arena, picking up on fans as JR and Cornette run down the card that has been set up for this evening. They talk about the presence of Nick Bockwinkel as the representative from the NWA Championship Committee and then the match later on tonight that is scheduled to be between Terry Funk and Ole Anderson. JR says that this match has all the makings of a slobberknocker. Cornette says that neither man will be the same again following the contest. Then they talk about heading to the ring for the opening contest here on World Championship Wrestling.]

Dick Slater and Buzz Sawyer vs. Ric Flair and Sting

[Gary Hart leads Dick Slater and Buzz Sawyer down to the ring taking in the boos. But not everyone is booing as one fan holds up a sign reading: 'Tommy Rich fears Buzz Sawyer!' The boos quickly turn to cheers, though, when Ric Flair and Sting walk out to the ring. Slater and Sawyer are a hard hitting team and they show that early on in the match with punches and forearm shots. They make quick tags and use the managerial advice of Gary Hart to maintain an early advantage. The Mad Dog goes for a press slam on Sting but Sting manages to slide down and roll him into a sunset flip: 1 -- 2 -- Kickout! Sting makes a tag to Flair and the Nature Boy takes over on both Sawyer and Slater! Chops go flying from the NWA World Champion. He body slams Sawyer to the mat as Sting comes in to battle Slater. A knee drop from Flair on Sawyer at the same time that Sting nails Slater with the Stinger Splash. The two men look at each other and then Sting locks Slater in the Scorpion Deathlock at the same time that Flair locks Sawyer in the Figure 4 Leglock! We have multiple submissions here as the referee calls for the bell and the fans go absolutely wild.]

[Next we head down to the podium where the Dean Of Professional Wrestling Gordon Solie is standing by with the representative of the NWA Championship Committee Nick Bockwinkel. Bockwinkel says that he has two major announcements to make tonight. The first major announcement is that the NWA Television title will be returning. The belt had been held up following a controversial ending to a match between The Great Muta and Sting. There will be a sixteen man tournament to determine the brand new titleholder. The brackets will be announced next week on the NWA Power Hour. The second announcement is regarding the NWA World Heavyweight title match at Fall Brawl between Champion Ric Flair and Challenger Terry Funk. The Championship Committee has decided to raise the stakes for that match. The belt will be decided in an 'I Quit' match! Bockwinkel thanks everyone for supporting the NWA.]

[We fade to a video that begins with the face of one of the more respected names in professional wrestling lit only by the fire of a single match. Two words are spoken by this man: 'I'm Back!' The match is blown out and we go through various scenes of Ricky Steamboat in action right here in the NWA. As he wrestles various opponents, a list of his accomplishments are shown, including him being a six time NWA Tag Team Champion, three time NWA United States Heavyweight Champion and one time NWA World Heavyweight Champion! Steamboat is shown defeating Ric Flair for that NWA World Heavyweight title belt. Then the incidents between him and Lex Luger are shown before the words 'Coming Soon' flash on the screen and we head back to the ring.]

The Great Muta vs. Ranger Ross

[The fans are surprised that instead of Bam Bam Bigelow coming out to face Ranger Ross, they get Gary Hart leading out The Great Muta. The announcers explain that Bigelow suffered a knee injury while wrestling in Japan and will be out for at least a month. The Pearl Of The Orient steps in against Ranger Ross and listens to the chants of 'U.S.A.' moving throughout the crowd. Muta spits into the air with that asian mist and then attacks Ross quickly. This match is mostly a display for the undefeated Great Muta. He shows some good martial arts skill and pro wrestling skill, keeping Ranger Ross off balance with his quickness. Muta brings Ross down with a swift kick to the side of the head and then poses, spraying mist into the air. Muta heads up to the top turnbuckle -- Moonsault Press! Muta hooks the leg: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

[The crowd within the arena stand up on their feet as the theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey blares through the loudspeakers. Out from the back comes the NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair, Sting and Ole Anderson. The three men walk down to the ring and step inside with Flair on the microphone. Flair asks what's causing all this? He says that tonight is a night that everyone is going to be talking about. Why? Because tonight is the return of the most elite group in professional wrestling. That elite group is none other than the IV Horsemen. There's Ric Flair, there's Sting and there's Ole Anderson. That leaves one spot unfilled. That one spot is up for grabs right now. If you want to prove that you can hang with the elite of professional wrestling then step up to the plate. Because the Horsemen will be watching and by Fall Brawl, there will be four of them. Steve Austin vs. Junkyard Dog

[This match is the National Wrestling Alliance debut of 'Stunning' Steve Austin. Austin comes out to the ring ignoring the crowd and motioning to his body, proclaiming himself to be the best looking man in professional wrestling. This only draws boos from the crowd. Those boos turn to cheers when the Junkyard Dog comes out and heads to the ring, facing off with Austin. When the bell sounds, the match is dominated by JYD. JYD gives some hard punches and headbutts to Austin. He drops down on all fours with Austin down on the mat and gives multiple headbutts to cheers from the crowd as JYD barks. JYD gets to his feet and picks Austin up, lifting him on his shoulder -- The Thump! A big powerslam from JYD! He makes the cover, hooking the leg: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

After a few moments, the kids are sent out and JYD heads out of the ring and begins to walk up the aisle. But it is there that he comes face to face with the NWA United States Heavyweight Champion Lex Luger. The two men exchange some words that are not picked up on camera. Luger points to the belt and then motions to his physique. JYD gets angry and shoves Luger. Luger fires back with a punch! JYD with a headbutt! Another one! Another! Luger kicks JYD right between the legs! JYD goes down to his knees and Luger charges with a forearm shot right between the eyes, bringing JYD down. Luger throws in some hard stomps to the head and rakes at the face and eyes of JYD until officials come down to seperate the two men.]

[A video begins to play at this point and the video focuses in on the history between The Road Warriors and The Skyscrapers. Both tag teams have claimed to be the toughest tag team in professional wrestling. But only team can truly lay claim to that title. At Fall Brawl, these two teams are going to do battle. There is going to be pride and respect on the line. But there is also going to be a future NWA World Tag Team title shot on the line! Whichever team wins the match between the two earns the right to challenge for the NWA World Tag Team titles whenever they choose to do so. All they need to do is bring a referee down and have the match in the center of the ring. A lot is at stake during this match but who will come out on top?]

Terry Gordy vs. Brad Armstrong

[Hailing from Badstreet USA, Terry Gordy comes down to the ring to take on the second generation upstart wrestler Brad Armstrong. Armstrong tries to start the match off quickly against the newest/old member of the Fabulous Freebirds. A dropkick knocks Gordy down and an armdrag by Armstrong turns into an armbar. That is about the extent of the moves by Armstrong as Gordy brings Armstrong back into the corner after the armbar and he is dominant against the second generation wrestler. Gordy picks up Armstrong and swings him around before body slamming him hard to the mat. Gordy picks up Armstrong and sends him toward the ropes -- Powerslam! Gordy makes the cover, hooking the leg: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

[We are taken backstage here within the Don Haskins Center where Woman is shown talking to Rick Steiner. Scott Steiner and Missy Hyatt approach the situation, asking what in the world is going on here. Hyatt and Woman get into a shoving match and it is enough of a distraction to the Steiners that they get blindsided by Doom and this massive individual who is introduced as the bodyguard for Woman. Jim Ross introduces the large man as Nitron and Nitron throws both Steiners around as though they are rag dolls. He catches Scott with a big boot and Doom slams Rick onto a table. Woman just smiles as she stands back and watches the carnage take place. But things may change at Fall Brawl as the two teams will go face to face.]

Old clips are shown of a wrestler who is soon to return to the NWA. This one is for Stan 'The Lariat' Hansen! Hansen is shown hitting the lariat from various positions on many great wrestlers. A voiceover talks about how he broke a man's neck with the lariat and put him out of action. But now Stan Hansen is returning to the NWA. Hayes calls for the DDT! He picks up Eaton and hooks him -- Eaton hooks the ropes! As Hayes falls, he releases Eaton and just hits the mat himself! Eaton picks up Hayes and irish whips him into the corner. Eaton climbs up and begins raining punches down on Hayes! He gets to ten as the crowd counts along and then drops down. Eaton moves in but Hayes rakes him in the eyes! Terry Gordy climbs onto the apron, drawing the attention of the referee. Hayes slips in behind Eaton and holds him by the arms as Jimmy Garvin climbs on the apron. But Stan Lane is there! Lane grabs Garvin's arm as he gears up to punch and then yanks him off the apron! [The crowd is a little surprised but happy as Bobby Eaton and Stan Lane celebrate in the ring. But we are taken backstage to a locker room area where the NWA United States Heavyweight Champion Lex Luger is in an argument already in progress with his friend Barry Windham. Windham is asking Luger what happened out there earlier tonight. Luger claims he was just defending himself when the Junkyard Dog attacked him. He was doing what any man would do out there. Windham says he is not so sure. He says that Luger went too far out there earlier tonight. Windham talks about how he vouched for Luger's change of heart. Luger argues that he has changed. The two men end up in a staredown before Windham tells him to get cleaned up because they're going out on the town tonight. Perhaps they can put things aside?]

In the foreground stand both the NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair and 'The Rock' Ole Anderson. Flair looks to Anderson and says that tonight they are going to celebrate with the champagne as Anderson takes care of Terry Funk Horsemen style. Anderson nods, looking serious and focused on the match tonight. Flair says that tonight the Rock is going to prove that he is still Horsemen material. Tonight Ole Anderson is in the main event, which is where the Horsemen belong. At the end of the day, Funk might be a legend but he's not a Horseman. Whooooooo!]

[It is our main event of the evening and this one should be a great one between two long time veterans of the NWA. The two men meet in the center of the ring and jaw at each other before Funk throws a punch. Anderson fires back! The two men exchange punches in the center of the ring before Funk fires with a kick to the gut. Funk sends Anderson to the ropes -- clothesline -- ducked! Anderson comes back with a clothesline of his own, sending Funk to the mat. Anderson spends the next few minutes in control, including sending Funk through the ropes to the floor! Anderson goes outside the ring with him and runs him into the guardrail before raising four fingers. He curls those fingers into a fist and brings it down onto the skull of Funk. Two more punches follow before he is distracted by the presence of Gary Hart. Anderson chases Hart around the ringside area before he gets ambushed by Funk.]

[Funk brings Anderson back into the ring where he shows some pure wrestling and technical skill. This is definitely not Funk's first time inside the ring and it shows each and every time he performs for the fans. Funk focuses in on the leg of Anderson. He gives it vicious kicks and stomps and then rams the leg against the ring post. Funk gets the referee's attention and Gary Hart chokes Anderson to boos from the crowd, who want the referee to turn around and see what's going on. Hart finishes before the referee turns back around and Funk walks over, picking up Anderson and bringing him down with a spinning body slam. Funk makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- Kickout!]

[As the match continues, Funk is in firm control over Anderson. Anderson has a hard time even standing on that leg that Funk has been focusing on throughout the match. But Anderson is too tough not to stand and show his strength. Funk lifts Anderson up on the top turnbuckle and climbs up with him but Anderson fights back as the crowd chants his name! Anderson fires with fists flying to Funk before pushing him off the turnbuckles to the mat below. Anderson drops down and grabs his leg for a moment, rubbing it out. He limps over to Funk and picks him up. The next few minutes have Ole Anderson working over Funk to the crowd's approval. Several people raise four fingers in the crowd. Anderson sends Funk to the ropes -- Spinebuster! But instead of covering Funk, Anderson sees Gary Hart on the apron! Anderson moves over and grabs Hart by the collar of his shirt. He raises a fist, ready to punch the manager out. He brings his fist back and then gets clipped from behind by Terry Funk! Anderson goes down and Hart drops off the apron. Funk grabs Anderson and pulls him in -- Texas Piledriver! Funk makes the cover, hooking the leg: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Terry Funk (Via Pinfall @ 14:44)

[The man from the double cross ranch Terry Funk picks up the victory here tonight but he's not done! He begins putting the boots to Ole Anderson. [B]Gary Hart motions toward the back and out from the back comes The Great Muta! The Pearl Of The Orient runs down to the ring and climbs the turnbuckle as Funk holds Anderson's leg out prone for Muta. But Muta does not get the opportunity to jump as out come Ric Flair and Sting! The crowd goes wild as the Horsemen arrive! Flair lights up Funk's chest with chops! Sting body slams Muta off the turnbuckles! Gary Hart escapes the ring and yells to his men to come with him. The ring is cleared of the J-Tex Corporation! Ric Flair and Sting check on Ole Anderson but as the show ends, Anderson raises four fingers. Flair and Sting return the sign. We'll see you next week on the NWA Power Hour!]

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1: The Iron Sheik vs. Ranger Ross
Comment: Those two matches were so easy to decide, even I (probably) got them right!

'Cowboy' Bob Orton vs. Sting
Comment: You know, guessing the obvious for every match is no fun, and I think Cowboy is worth the rare victory against the Stinger. Here's hoping only I see his potential in this one :p

Terry Funk vs. Z-Man
Comment: Since I have my doubts about Z-Man ever getting his deserved title reign, I suppose I'm happy enough to choose Terry instead. Please don't kill the poor boy Funker.

Signs: My Money's on Al Perez!

You know I have a group I would love to see you put together in the Horsemen, but with current storylines and card placements, it's unfortunate that you probably won't have that as the group.... almost makes me want to start up a new game just to make it happen, but I'd be too lazy/busy to see it thru :p

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Al Perez vs. Barry Windham
Comment: I'm glad to see the return of the TV title, Windham wouldn't be a bad one for it to go on actually.

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1: The Iron Sheik vs. Ranger Ross
Comment: This match will suck and suck horribly. The real losers are the fans who pay to see this.

'Cowboy' Bob Orton vs. Sting
Comment: While I have seen you lend a win here and there to the Cowboy, he just ain't in Sting's league at this point of his career.

Terry Funk vs. Z-Man
Comment: Not a chance.

Signs:
I want the Dragon!
The Horsemen need more Cactus Jack

(No, Cactus isn't one of the guys I was thinking of, but I thought a sign like that would get an odd look from Flair if he walked past it.)

[Following the usual recap of World Championship Wrestling, we focus in on our announcers: Gordon Solie and James E. Cornette. They begin talking about the brand new NWA Television title tournament. They show highlights from the match between Sting and The Great Muta that caused the title to be held up. The Iron Sheik vs. Ranger Ross
Al Perez vs. Barry Windham

[The Horsemen theme draws all of the fans to their feet as three men walk out from the back. Ric Flair is decked out in an expensive and tailored suit and so are Ole Anderson and Sting. The crowd goes absolutely wild for those three men. Four fingers are thrown up all around by the fans. Flair pauses in front of one fan with a sign that reads: 'The Horsemen need more Cactus Jack!' He flashes a smirk and releases a 'Whooooooo' before turning and moving into the ring with his two partners. Flair gets on the microphone, calling himself the official representative of the Four Horsemen. And he wants to make things clear. There will be four men by the end of Fall Brawl. The question on everyone's mind is who will be the fourth Horseman? Everyone is going to have to wait and see just who will fill that spot. So he is putting every single NWA wrestler on notice that to be a part of the most elite group in professional wrestling, you have to earn it like the three men standing in the ring today. Whoooooo! Remember that diamonds are forever and so are the Four Horsemen. Whoooooo!]

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1
Al Perez vs. Barry Windham

[Our opening contest is one where most people might not have had high hopes for the match but it was actually a solid back and forth contest between these two men. The Latin Heartthrob Al Perez shows that he is no pushover inside the ring as he scores several near falls on the second generation wrestler. As Perez scores one near-fall, the camera picks up a sign in the background that reads: 'My Money's on Al Perez!' Lex Luger cheers on Windham from ringside, watching as the back and forth action unfolds. The referee gets caught up in the action and bumped to the mat. But Perez and Windham catch each other with a double clothesline, bringing them both to the mat as well. Luger sneaks around the ring and slowly slips inside with the NWA United States title belt in hand. Perez is to his feet first -- WHAM! Luger nails Perez with the belt and then slides out of the ring. The crowd boos the cheating move but Windham didn't see a thing! Windham slowly pushes to his feet, seeing Perez still down on the mat. Windham picks up Perez -- Running Bulldog! Luger revives the referee as Windham makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

[Jim Ross is standing by within the blank interview area with the #1 contender to the NWA World Heavyweight title Terry Funk. JR's first question is about the stipulation added on World Championship Wrestling where it will now be an I Quit match between Funk and Ric Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight title. Funk says that he has never said 'I Quit' in his entire career and he is not going to start at Fall Brawl. He talks about getting beat up over and over again and fighting back. He says that Ric Flair better be more focused on him instead of focusing on reforming the Four Horsemen. That banana-nosed loser is gonna walk away without his gold, according to Terry Funk.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/rickysteamboat2.jpg

[A video is shown much like the one that was shown on World Championship Wrestling. The former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat is returning to the NWA! Steamboat is shown defeating various high profile opponents with moves like the flying cross body off the top turnbuckle and the double chicken wing! Steamboat is shown giving some of his own signature chops to the body. At the end of the video, the words 'Coming Soon' are listed at the bottom of the screen and the fire is blown out.]

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1
The Iron Sheik vs. Ranger Ross

[Our next match is not one of the greatest scientific bouts known to man but is a first round match in the NWA Television title tournament as Ranger Ross takes on the veteran The Iron Sheik. The match was mostly dominated by The Iron Sheik as he ignored the 'U.S.A.' chants that moved through the audience. At one point, the cameras picked up a sign reading: 'I want the Dragon!' The Iron Sheik takes down Ross with a short-arm clothesline and then climbs on top of him -- Camel Clutch! It doesn't take long before Ross is submitting to the hold.]

[We actually move backstage at this point in time where Rick Steiner and Scott Steiner are walking side by side. Obviously, they are talking over strategy for their upcoming match with Doom at Fall Brawl. The camera follows them, peering upward as a box looks a little shaky. The box begins to fall toward Scott. Rick pushes his brother out of the way and the box lands on the head of the Dog-Faced Gremlin. Rick falls to the ground and things like wrenches and other tools can be seen now inside the heavy box. Scott yells for an ambulance for his brother, checking on the condition of Rick Steiner. In the background, a large figure can barely be seen moving away from the scene.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/stanhansen4.jpg

[We are taken to the video package of another man who will soon be making his return to the NWA. This man is none other than Stan 'The Lariat' Hansen. Hansen is shown hitting various opponents with that dangerous move and each and every time he is shown making the cover and getting the win. Hansen is a very dangerous cowboy, who has already broken a man's neck with that move. It is shown that he will be returning to action this coming week on World Championship Wrestling when he faces Z-Man in a first round match of the NWA Television title tournament!]

'Cowboy' Bob Orton vs. Sting

[Our semi main event is a match that could be the main event anywhere in the country. Neither of these men let anyone down in this back and forth match. Sting scores early against Orton, nearly scoring a pinfall following a dropkick but only getting a two count. Orton comes back with some hard forearm shots to the chest and then a vertical suplex that sends Sting right back down to the mat. Orton focuses on the back of Sting throughout the match but the crowd try to will Sting back into things. Orton sets Sting up on the turnbuckles, setting him up for the Superplex but suddenly Sting comes back to life. Sting with some punches, shoving Orton off the turnbuckles to the mat. Sting comes flying down with an elbow drop right to the heart of the Cowboy! Sting yanks Orton up and irish whips him into a corner -- Stinger Splash! The Stinger Splash connects! Sting grabs the legs of Orton and twists around -- Scorpion Deathlock! Orton struggles and fights but then must give in to the pain of the submission hold! A big win for one of the Horsemen.]

[Ric Flair is shown backstage smiling as he watches the monitor. Then his attention turns toward the other man in the room: Z-Man. He says that Sting just proved that he is worthy of being one of the elite members of the Horsemen and that Z-Man has the chance to prove his worth tonight. Remember, Z-Man, to be the man, you have to beat the man. Tonight, if Z-Man can beat Terry Funk, it will go a long way toward possibly earning him a membership in that most elite group called the Four Horsemen. Long limousines, jet airplanes and all the beautiful women that you can stand. Just like that. Z-Man smiles and says he won't let him down tonight. Flair does a little strut and releases a 'Whooooo' as Z-Man flexes and we head to the ring.]

Terry Funk vs. Z-Man

[A match worthy of being called the main event, despite the fact that it was rather short. But, then, the NWA Power Hour is generally short on time in the main event. Funk and Z-Man give it all in this back and forth encounter as Z-Man tries to prove himself worthy of being called a Horseman. Z-Man catches Funk with a rear waistlock takedown. He uses several moves like the arm drag, hip toss and armbar on the #1 contender, surprising Funk with his quickness. Funk has to check in with Gary Hart, calling a time out. But there are no timeouts in professional wrestling. Z-Man bangs Funk's and Hart's heads together, drawing cheers from the crowd! Z-Man plays to the crowd but that enables Funk to come back with a rake to the eyes and take control.]

[Funk sends Z-Man into a corner and throws punches to Z-Man, throwing them wildly. Funk sends Z-Man outside the ring and grabs the attention of the referee. Gary Hart throws in some kicks to Z-Man and the Funk walks over and pulls Z-Man up on the apron. Z-Man throws a forearm shot! Z-Man catches Funk with a shoulder to the gut and then leaps over with a sunset flip: 1 -- 2 -- Kickout! Z-Man pops up and gets knocked down with a clothesline by Funk! Funk tucks Z-Man between his legs -- Texas Piledriver! Funk looks to make a cover and then shakes his head. He grabs the leg of Z-Man -- Funk Spinning Toehold! The crowd boos as Funk has his family's signature submission on Z-Man! Z-Man struggles, reaching for the ropes. He tries to get the power of the people behind him. But the pain is too much and he has to give up!]

[As Terry Funk celebrates in the ring, we are taken backstage where the NWA Championship Committee representative Nick Bockwinkel has set up an office. Inside that office is the NWA United States Heavyweight Champion Lex Luger. The first words out of Luger's mouth are: 'So we have a deal?' Bockwinkel agrees to the deal that was made before we got back there. Luger lays out the terms of the deal, which are that this Saturday night on World Championship Wrestling Lex Luger defends the NWA U.S. title against the returning Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat! Luger says he agrees to the match because he wants to prove to everyone that he has changed. He wants to shake Steamboat's hand and prove that he is not the same man that he was when Steamboat left the company. He wants bygones to be bygones and Bockwinkel agrees. As Luger exits the office, we are out of time here on the NWA Power Hour! We'll see you tomorrow for NWA Worldwide and Saturday for World Championship Wrestling!]

Comment: Almost want to say Buzz wins so that J-Tex get to move forward in the tournament, but something is just pulling me toward Douglas.

Comment: Hansen could take the whole thing here.

Comment: I don't think Steamboat needs the title as much as Luger does. Or at least, I hope not.

Terry Funk, The Great Muta and Dick Slater vs. Ric Flair, Ole Anderson and Sting

[World Championship Wrestling opens up this week inside the Asheville Civic Center with the sounds of '2001: A Space Odyssey' getting the fans on their feet. Four fingers fly in the air as Ric Flair leads Ole Anderson and Sting right down toward the ring and it looks like this evening is going to start with in ring action. Jim Ross and James E. Cornette welcome everyone to World Championship Wrestling during the entrance. The cheers turn to boos as Terry Funk, The Great Muta and Dick Slater make their entrance along with their manager Gary Hart. One fan holds up a sign reading: 'GREEN MIST!']

[The three bad guys enter the ring and immediately the pier six brawl begins between all six men. Ric Flair is lacing Terry Funk's chest with chops in one corner. Sting is no-selling some punches from Muta in another and in the third corner, Ole Anderson and Dick Slater are exchanging very hard-hitting blows. Gary Hart's threesome end up vacating the ring almost as quickly as they entered, moving over to Hart for some advice outside the ring as The Horsemen celebrate inside the ring.]

[The first few minutes of the bout belong to the Horsemen as they make quick tags in and out of the contest, keeping a fresh man in. That is, until Sting gets caught in the wrong corner. He tries to fight back against all three men but the numbers game catches up to him and he takes a slingshot on the top rope by Slater and a clothesline down to the mat by Funk. Sting is left on the defensive for the majority of the match with Flair and Anderson reaching for tags, only to be thwarted by the J-Tex Corporation members. Whether it's getting the referee's attention so he doesn't see the tag or attacking Flair or Anderson on the apron to regain the advantage, the J-Tex Corporation utilizes a lot of dirty tricks. They wear down the man called Sting and bring him down to the mat with a Slater body slam. Slater tags in Muta and Muta heads for the top turnbuckle -- Moonsault -- misses! Sting rolls out of the way and Muta lands chest-first on the mat! Sting crawls toward the corner with a 'We Want Flair' chant breaking through the crowd. Slater tags in Funk and Sting tags in Anderson as a sign is shown in the background reading: 'We need a REAL Enforcer!']

[The match breaks down once again just as it did in the beginning. Flair comes in after Muta, Sting comes back in and faces off with Dick Slater, leaving Anderson and Funk. More hard-hitting ensues between all six men. Muta manages to catch Flair with a hard kick to the head and Flair goes down. Slater hits Sting with a low blow outside of the vision of the referee. Funk takes control over the fresher Anderson and then hooks him between his legs: Texas Piledriver! Funk makes the cover, sliding his feet on the middle rope in the process: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winners: Terry Funk, The Great Muta and Dick Slater (Via Pinfall @ 10:31)

[The crowd is unhappy with that turn of events earlier. Speaking of being unhappy, we head backstage and catch the middle of another argument between Lex Luger and Barry Windham. Luger shoves Windham backward and Windham shoves Luger.]

Barry Windham
"What do you mean you did it to help me? I didn't want to advance in that manner. You and I are friends, Lex. But don't interfere in any of my matches again, alright?

Lex Luger
"Suit yourself, Barry. But tonight I have to focus because tonight I am going one on one with Ricky Steamboat for my United States title. I have to win this match and prove to everyone that I am the best."

[Windham nods and pats Luger on the back.]

Barry Windham
"I'll see you after the match, Lex."

[Luger nods back and begins pacing slightly in that backstage area. He has a worried look on his face and perhaps rightly so. Facing Ricky Steamboat is a tall challenge for anyone to overcome.]

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1
Buzz Sawyer vs. Shane Douglas

[Our second bout of the evening is a round 1 contest in the NWA Television title tournament. The updated brackets are shown with Barry Windham and The Iron Sheik advancing to the second round on the NWA Power Hour.]

[This match is definitely not a crowd pleasing encounter here as neither man are really over enough with the fans to really draw a lot of attention. Perhaps used as more of a bathroom break? The match, though, is dominated by one of the two men. The member of the J-Tex Corporation cuts through Douglas just like his namesake. Sawyer brings Douglas into the corner and lights him up with chops and punches and even a bite that Sawyer has to break before a five count. He sends Douglas to the ropes -- Powerslam! Sawyer makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Buzz Sawyer (Via Pinfall @ 4:43)

[We are taken to a pre-recorded message where the three members of the Fabulous Freebirds: Michael 'P.S.' Hayes, Jimmy 'Jam' Garvin and Terry Gordy are standing by in front of an 'NWA' logo with the NWA World Tag Team title belts firmly around the waists of Hayes and Garvin.]

Michael 'P.S.' Hayes
"Everybody wants a title shot at the Freebirds. Of course they do. Because when you're the best everyone wants to try and bring you down to their level. But the Freebirds are on the top level. We're up in the penthouse partying with all the ladies, while the other tag teams are down in the outhouse doing what they do best. That includes you, Midnight Express. Sure you may have the pedigree and the background to give us a run for our money but the 80's were the decade of the Freebirds and the 90's are going to be more of the same."

Jimmy Garvin
"That's right, Michael. Midnight Express, you're going to get hurt when you step in the ring with us. Rock and roll and kicking butt is our business and business is good."

[Gordy crosses his arms across his large chest and just stares into the camera for a moment as the Freebirds pose.]

[We head to the backstage area where we find Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, The Rock 'N' Roll Express, standing around talking to several members of the staff. The small talk is interrupted, though, when they get approached by two of the larger members of the NWA roster: Sid Vicious and Dan Spivey, The Skyscrapers.]

Sid Vicious
"So these are the two legends that have returned to the tag team division? Did you ask our permission to return? Let me introduce myself. My name is Sid Vicious. This is Dan Spivey. We are The Skyscrapers and we rule the tag team division in the NWA with an iron fist. So you two old-timers can just hit the bricks."

[Morton and Gibson ignore The Skyscrapers at first but they cannot ignore the fists to the sides of the head when Vicious and Spivey attack them. The interns and other staff members run for cover as Vicious rams Gibson's head into a table backstage! Spivey throws Morton into some lighting! The Skyscrapers team up to bring Gibson down beside his partner and then stand over the veteran tag team.]

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1
Bill Irwin vs. Brad Armstrong

[Our third match of the evening is another first round match in the NWA Television Title Tournament. Another group of fans used this match as their bathroom break but they missed a very competitive match that went back and forth and actually got the crowd involved. The second generation wrestler Brad Armstrong showed some definite athleticism in this match that he must have gotten from his father 'Bullet' Bob Armstrong. Irwin scored a near fall following a big boot. This lead to an argument between Irwin and the referee. Armstrong recovered and slid in behind Irwin -- Russian Legsweep! Armstrong slides over, making the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3! Brad Armstrong advances right here on World Championship Wrestling!]

[We head to another pre-recorded message. This time we have Woman along with the team known simply as Doom. These three wrestlers are standing in front of the NWA logo, much as The Fabulous Freebirds were earlier in the night.]

Woman
"I am Woman, hear me roar. I promised Rick and Scott Steiner that they would meet their Doom and I always keep my promises. Here with me are two men who comprise the best tag team in professional wrestling. Their names are not important. What is important is that they are going to terrorize the Steiner Brothers for breaking my heart. They are going to destroy them both and leave them for me to stand over top of their broken bodies. Remember, boys, hell hath no fury like Woman scorned."

[Doom just stands there looking tough within their masks. Of course the announcers have 'no idea' who the two men are underneath the masks.]

Match #4

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1
Stan Hansen vs. Z-Man

[Our semi main event this evening is another first round match in the NWA Television title tournament and this is a great one between the debut of Stan 'the Lariat' Hansen and Z-Man. Z-Man gets the great crowd reaction when he comes down to the ring. The debut of Hansen is met with a lot of boos and jeering from the crowd. Though one fan holds up a sign reading: 'LARIATOOOOOO!', a reference to Hansen's days in Japan.]

[Another of our hard hitting battles here tonight as Hansen shows a stiffness in the ring that has Z-Man showing some swelling early on in the match. Z-Man does his best to move away from Hansen and keep Hansen from hitting any big dangerous shots to the head and face. Z-Man definitely has the speed advantage in this bout and he scores a near fall on a cross body block. Hansen catches Z-Man and tosses him out of the ring. He follows him out and tosses him against the ring post. While they are outside the ring, a sign is shown reading: 'Run Z-Man, Run!' Hansen throws Z-Man back in the ring and Z-Man bounces off the ropes -- Super Kick -- ducked! Hansen rises up -- LARIAT! He nearly takes Z-Man's head off! Hansen makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3! Stan Hansen advances!]

Winner: Stan Hansen (Via Pinfall @ 7:47)

[We head down to ringside following a commercial break where Gordon Solie is standing by with the top contender to the NWA United States Heavyweight title: Junkyard Dog. Dog shakes hands with some fans for a moment as attention is focused on Solie.]

Gordon Solie
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen. We are just a few moments away from viewing the main event, a United States Heavyweight title defense by 'The Total Package' Lex Luger against Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat. One man who is very interested in the outcome of this match is the man standing to my left: Junkyard Dog. JYD, do you have any preference on the outcome of this match?

Junkyard Dog
"I'll tell you what, Gordon, it's going to be a tough and competitive match no matter who I face at Fall Brawl. It could be Lex Luger. It could be my good friend Ricky Steamboat. But every dog has his day and Fall Brawl is going to be my day to walk away with the U.S. title. That night, they're gonna give a dog a bone and I'm going to walk away with the belt no matter who it is."

Gordon Solie
"Thank you, JYD."

[Gordon nods and JYD moves back to shaking hands with the fans and we head to a commercial break.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/NWA.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/paulellering.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/animal3.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/hawk3.jpg

[As we return from that commercial break, the sounds of 'Iron Man' by Black Sabbath are playing in the arena. The crowd goes on their feet to watch as Paul Ellering leads Animal and Hawk, The Road Warriors, down to the ring. They step inside as the announcers say that this wasn't planned at all. But they want to hear what the Road Warriors have to say.]

Paul Ellering
"First of all, ladies and gentlemen, we decided to come out here and take this time to let The Skyscrapers know that they, in fact, do NOT rule the tag team division here in NWA. That place belongs to the two men standing on either side of me. And in order for you to get that spot, you're going to have to go through my team at Fall Brawl, which is no easy task and a fool's game. Though no one ever excused the two of you lug heads as being awfully bright. Right, Animal?"

Animal
"That's right, Paul. We are the two toughest men in professional wrestling. We don't need no stinking weapons. We don't need anything but our bare hands. We are not exactly like your average geeks down the block. We're a little different, yeah, just a little. We are the future NWA World Tag Team Champions and there's not a team that's gonna stand in our way."

[The Road Warriors are surprisingly interrupted by the sounds of a theme music that the fans definitely recognize.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/missyhyatt.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/RickSteiner3.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/ScottSteiner22.jpg

[Out from the back, led by Missy Hyatt, come Rick Steiner and Scott Steiner, The Steiner Brothers. The fans are definitely surprised and have no idea what is going to happen here. Hyatt leads the Steiners into the ring and they've got microphones of their own.]

Scott Steiner
"Did I really hear you just say that you're the greatest tag team in professional wrestling? That there isn't a team who's going to stand in your way? My brother and I have a little something to say about that. You see, I am trying to understand why it is your match with the Skyscrapers that has that little title attached to it where you can cash in an NWA World Tag Team title shot any time you want. Why isn't that attached to our match with Doom? So, I'll tell you what, next week we have World Championship Wrestling right before the pay-per-view. Next week, Road Warriors versus Steiner Brothers. Winners have that stipulation attached to their match. What do you say?"

Hawk
"Weeeelllllll, I would say that you just made a big mistake. The two of you are going to be sitting in hospital beds next to The Skyscrapers next week. You're on! Ohhhhhhhhh What a rush!"

[Scott just smiles while Rick barks and jogs around the ring. He obviously got exactly what he wanted. The face off ends in a commercial break for the fans at home and Scott leading his brother and Missy Hyatt out of the ring for the fans in the building.]

Match #5
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/luger.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/rickysteamboat2.jpg
NWA United States Heavyweight Title Match
Lex Luger defends vs. Ricky Steamboat

[Our main event contest has the fans going absolutely wild for the entrance and return of Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat. Steamboat shakes hands with the fans on the way to the ring and then climbs inside, waiting for the entrance of The Total Package. Luger ignores the fans for now as he steps inside the ring and hands over the United States title belt. He offers a handshake to Steamboat to start things out. Steamboat accepts and the match begins.]

[Luger starts off the match by showing his power, shoving Steamboat back in the corner and then flexing to boos from the crowd. It happens a second time as well. But the third time has Steamboat reversing the momentum and sending Luger into the corner. Steamboat climbs up and throws punches down on Luger, who reverses it into an inverted atomic drop when eight punches are reached. Luger brings down Steamboat with a clothesline and thus starts the several minutes of momentum for the Total Package.]

[That momentum for Luger includes sending Steamboat out of the ring and running him into the ring post and then into the guardrail. Luger focuses on the ribs and back of Steamboat, obviously a prelude to the Human Torture Rack. The fans are into the match during this entire time, trying to will Steamboat into a second wind. Steamboat struggles and fights multiple times but Luger keeps putting him down ever single time. Though Luger starts getting frustrated because Steamboat won't stay down for a three count. Luger puts Steamboat down with a running forearm shot and calls for the Human Torture Rack! A sign in the crowd is shown reading: 'The Total Package Just Wrapped You Up!!' Luger lifts The Dragon up on his shoulders but Steamboat wiggles his way out.]

[Steamboat catches Luger with a perfectly executed dropkick and then some armdrags for good measure. The Dragon attempts to put Luger in the double chicken wing but Luger powers out and throws Steamboat over the top rope. Steamboat holds on to the top rope and as Luger poses, Steamboat pulls himself back in the ring over the ropes. Steamboat catches Luger with some chops when Luger turns back around. He drops Luger with a spinning heel kick! Steamboat motions to the top turnbuckle. He's looking to put Luger away. Steamboat climbs the turnbuckle as Luger starts to get to his feet. Luger spies Steamboat and rolls quickly out of the ring. Luger motions with his hands that he doesn't want anymore and grabs his U.S. title belt. Referee Tommy Young has no choice but to count Luger out as The Total Package disappears into the backstage area.]

Winner: Ricky Steamboat (Via Count Out @ 20:19; Lex Luger retains the NWA United States Heavyweight title)
Match Rating: A

[Even though he doesn't win the title, this is still a major victory for Ricky Steamboat on his return to the NWA. Steamboat climbs the turnbuckles and pumps his fists, celebrating to cheers from the crowd. The Dragon exits the ring over the top rope to the floor and then moves out with the crowd, a man of the people. The show ends with Steamboat celebrating this victory over Luger. We'll see you on the Power Hour!]

Terry Funk, The Great Muta and Dick Slater vs. Ric Flair, Ole Anderson and Sting
Comment: VERY tough to call, but I'm imagining Ole as the weak point here. Well, slightly weaker than Slater, anyways.

This was definitely a tough match to call and even for me to call. In the end, I felt that the J-Tex Corporation needed more momentum.

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Bill Irwin vs. Brad Armstrong
Comment: When two jobbers meet, no one really cares. Don't matter who takes this one, they're out in the next round anyways.

Man, I don't think that anyone appreciated this match! lol.

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Stan Hansen vs. Z-Man
Comment: Hansen could take the whole thing here.

He is definitely a possibility!

NWA United States Heavyweight Title Match: Lex Luger defends vs. Ricky Steamboat
Comment: I almost went with Lex, because him cheating to win would further his current story well. But Steamboat is re-debuting, and as such I almost can't go against him in this one.

This was another tough one for me to call but I think the count out victory both cemented Steamboat's return and forwarded Luger's storyline as well.

Signs:
We need a REAL Enforcer!
GREEN MIST
LARIATOOOOOO

Thanks for the signs and predictions! They are always appreciated!

Terry Funk, The Great Muta and Dick Slater vs. Ric Flair, Ole Anderson and Sting
Comment: Heels win big tags, Faces win big singles.

That is booking 101, right?

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Buzz Sawyer vs. Shane Douglas
Comment: Yay Buzz! Screw that Shane kid, your going to be the Franchise!

He could end up that way. :)

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Bill Irwin vs. Brad Armstrong
Comment: The ick vs the ick...er.

I think I get that nobody likes the Irwin/Armstrong match. lol.

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Stan Hansen vs. Z-Man
Comment: Poor, poor Z-Man. What was it, first Terry Funk, now Stan Hansen? Angry Texans just aren't your thing man.

Z-Man COULD come on the verge of a push. The question is, though, could it be a singles push or a tag team push with Flyin' Brian?

NWA United States Heavyweight Title Match: Lex Luger defends vs. Ricky Steamboat
Comment: I don't think Steamboat needs the title as much as Luger does. Or at least, I hope not.

Steamboat definitely doesn't need the belt. But, technically, I'm not so sure Luger does either.

Signs: Run Z-Man, Run!

Thanks for the predictions and the comments and sign! All of them are so very much appreciated!

Comment: Austin isn't big enough to get many wins yet, but I'm sure he will pretty soon.

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Dick Slater vs. Flyin' Brian
Comment: I'm pulling for Brian to take the title!

Terry Funk vs. Sting
Comment: I'm looking at this from a logistic standpoint; Sting is just coming off of a TV title run, whereas Funk is looking forward to a big World title match. I figure Funker can cheat to win this one, and when Sting is on his way on up - probably next month - then he can get this win back.

NWA Power Hour
Thursday Week 4 September 1989

Prediction Key:
NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Steve Austin vs. Steve Williams
Comment:Both men could win. Steve Williams was I believe pretty popular at this point, more so then Austin, so I'm going with him.

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Dick Slater vs. Flyin' Brian
Comment: Z-Man and Flyin' Brian can't be wasting no time with singles titles! Also, Dick Slater is not too shabby himself.

Terry Funk vs. Sting
Comment: Very tough one. I know I had booking 101 on my side last time out, but me thinks this still isn't the big singles match I alluded to earlier. I think either Funk will win less then cleanly, or we'll have another DQ finish. My guess is still on Terry though.

NWA POWER HOUR!
Thursday Week 4 September 1989
Location: Norfolk Scope (Mid Atlantic)
Attendance: 10,000
Overall Rating: B+
TV Rating: 1.49

Match #1
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/steveaustin89.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/SteveWilliams2.jpg
NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1
Steve Austin vs. Steve Williams

[Gordon Solie and James E. Cornette welcome everyone to the NWA Power Hour as Steve Austin stands within the ring, stretching and yelling at the crowd. A sign is shown in the background reading: 'Can't wait for Fall Brawl!' 'Stunning' Steve Austin is introduced and then from the back comes the man known as 'Dr. Death.' Steve Williams doesn't do the whole crowd high five thing despite his popularity. Instead, he is all business as he walks down to the ring and steps inside, staring across at his opponent.]

[The relatively short match is a combination of Austin's cheating and speed versus the brute force, power and technical accumen of the former Varsity Club member Dr. Death. Williams catches Austin when Austin goes for a cross body and then lifts him up in a military press! The press slam is effective and has Austin grabbing his back in pain. The two men definitely show a great chemistry together as their moves and transitions are very fluid in the ring. Williams brings Austin to the mat with a double leg takedown and slides up, throwing punches to the head of Austin, making Austin try and cover up. Williams yanks him up to his feet and then hooks him in a gutwrench position -- Doctor Bomb! Williams turns the move into a pinfall: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Steve Williams (Via Pinfall @ 4:55)

[Gordon Solie receives a memo that they are headed to a camera backstage. As we arrive backstage, we see Junkyard Dog standing but looking dizzy on his feet like a boxer who is about to get knocked out. Then we see the reason for the dizziness as Lex Luger comes running forward with a clothesline that brings JYD down to the concrete floor. Luger begins putting the boots to his Fall Brawl opponent. He picks him up and runs him right into a wall, smashing his skull against the wall as the crowd boos in the background. JYD falls to the floor and Luger poses above him. What a heinous attack by the Total Package. And just where is Barry Windham?]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/ricflairc.jpg

[We head to another one of those pre-taped promos. This time standing in front of the NWA logo is the NWA World Heavyweight Champion 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair. Flair is wearing one of his many $5,000 robes but it is left open to show the NWA World Heavyweight title belt]

Ric Flair
"Whooooooo! We are in living color right here in Norfolk Virginia. And, Norfolk, I know you have one question for the Nature Boy: What's causing all this? Whoooooo. But I need to turn my attention to the man who is getting an NWA World title shot at Fall Brawl. That man is Terry Funk. Terry, we all know about your credentials. You're a great wrestler. Every single fan in every arena knows that. But, Funker, you're going to be walking that aisle and stepping inside the ring with the greatest wrestler alive or dead in Ric Flair. Whoooooo. I am custom made from head to toe. I wear the finest suits. My shoes cost more than the Double Cross Ranch cost you. But that's because I am the NWA World Champion. Quite frankly, Terry Funk, it would be a disgrace to have a guy like you carry this belt. That's why this Saturday night, at NWA's Fall Brawl, I'm gonna make you say two words you thought that you would never say in your entire lifetime together: 'I Quit!' Whooooooo!"

[Flair does a little strut in the confined space and we head back to the ring for our next matchup.]

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1
Dick Slater vs. Flyin' Brian

[The crowd was definitely behind the young high flier in Flyin' Brian this evening and the boos came out when 'Dirty' Dick Slater was escorted out to the ring by his manager Gary Hart. Another match of power versus speed in this first round battle of the NWA Television title tournament. Brian catches Slater with some stiff elbow shots and then springboards himself over the top rope with a flying clothesline on Slater. Brian makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- Gary Hart slides Slater's foot on the bottom rope! He definitely saves Slater from being pinned there. Brian heads out of the ring and goes after Hart! Hart runs Brian into an ambush from Slater with a big clothesline. Slater sends Brian to the ropes -- Sleeperhold! Brian struggles but the massive power and weight of Slater eventually brings him down to slump onto the mat. The referee grabs Brian's hand and raises it once, twice, three times and then calls for the bell as Slater advances.]

Winner: Dick Slater (Via Submission @ 5:11)

[We head to another one of those pre-recorded interviews. This time, we have Paul Ellering standing by with his team: The Road Warriors! Animal and Hawk look as angry and vicious as ever.]

Paul Ellering
"Steiner brothers! Your wishbone is where your backbone ought to be! You wish you had enough of a backbone to stand up to my Road Warriors. Instead, I am sure that this is not going to be a legal fight on Saturday night. But that's alright because my Road Warriors can destroy anyone whether it's legal, illegal or out of legal. Tell 'em Animal."

Animal
"Rick Steiner, Scott Steiner, do you know who we are? Do you know exactly what you're getting yourself involved in? We're the Road Warriors. We're the two biggest, toughest, baddest men walking the earth. We're the two biggest cats in the yard and you're stepping into the yard with the Road Warriors. We just might claw your eyes out. Right, Hawk?"

Hawk
"Weeeelllllll! People recently have been wondering just who is the better tag team: The Steiner Brothers or the Road Warriors? We're going to find out Saturday night. But I can already give you the answer to that question. We are the toughest team in the world today. We are the best and on Saturday night it's going to be ohhhhhhh WHAT A RUSH!"

[The Road Warriors flex for a moment before we move to the backstage area.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/boborton.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/rickysteamboat2.jpg

[We head to the backstage area once again here on the NWA Power Hour. We are following alongside 'Cowboy' Bob Orton as he holds the rope and cowbell in his hands. He pushes open a door to find Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat sitting at a table about to eat. Steamboat looks up just in time to get attacked by the bullrope! Steamboat tries to defend himself but Orton gets behind him and chokes him down to the ground with the rope, smashing his face with the cowbell. As Steamboat is left on the ground, Orton stands over top of him.]

'Cowboy' Bob Orton
"I'll see you at Fall Brawl"

[Medics and officials come running in as Orton raises his arms and backs off Steamboat. There is definitely more going on there than meets the eye.]

Match #4
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/terryfunk2.jpg w/ http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/garyhart.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/sting4.jpg
Terry Funk vs. Sting

[Our main event matchup this evening and it is a good one. Terry Funk is escorted out to the ring by Gary Hart. Funk and Hart receive an ovation of boos from the crowd. Funk ignores it, while Hart yells at the crowd to shut their mouths. Funk leans back in the corner as the music for the man called Sting begins to play. Sting walks out, getting the crowd pumped, high fiving the fans on his way down to the ring. Sting pauses beside a sign that reads: 'Get Em Stinger!' He releases an 'Owwwww' that gets echoed by the crowd before he enters the ring and faces off with Funk.]

[The match itself is one of your classic strong, cheating heels against the heroic babyface style of matches. Sting looks strong in the first few minutes of the match, sending Funk outside to regroup. The regroup definitely helps Funk as he comes in with fists of fury, attacking Sting at every point and bringing him down to the mat. Funk chokes Sting on the ropes and then as the referee gets him to back up, Gary Hart interferes, choking Sting out a little more. That only draws a two count on Sting, though, as he kicks out at the last possible moment.]

[The momentum shifts yet again when Funk goes for a Texas Piledriver on Sting. Sting struggles, getting his legs back down three times before elevating Funk with a back body drop. Sting goes down to the mat as well and the fans begin to chant his name to try and give him that much-desired second wind. Both men are slow to their feet. Sting ducks a clothesline attempt and catches Funk with a kick to the gut and then begins throwing punches! A discus clothesline brings Funk down to the mat. Sting releases a howl to the crowd but Funk rolls outside the ring. Sting gives chase to Funk and the two battle up the aisle with Funk ramming Sting's head against the guardrail. Gary Hart comes over and the referee has no choice but to count both men out as pandemonium ensues when wrestlers come running out from the back.]

Winner: Draw (Via Double Count Out @ 13:54)

[The wild brawl is on as Ric Flair, Ole Anderson, The Great Muta and Dick Slater all join in down the aisleway! Flair laces up Terry Funk with chops! Sting and The Great Muta exchange chops and kicks and punches, oh my! Ole Anderson and Dick Slater exchange hard hitting punches and kicks. This has gotten extremely wild and out of control!

[All six men do battle along the aisleway and then Flair and Funk end up back at ringside. Gary Hart attacks Flair from behind, providing a distraction that allows Funk to bring Flair down with a clothesline. Funk locks Flair in the Funk Spinning Toe Hold! Flair yells out in pain! Funk has a wild look on his face as officials come running out to try and restore some order. As the camera zooms in on Funk's face with Flair screaming in the background, we're out of time! We'll see you tomorrow for Worldwide and on Saturday for World Championship Wrestling!]

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Steve Austin vs. Steve WilliamsComment: Doc has the better push via Varsity Club, plus thinking he vs Hansen would make a heckuva match

I can definitely agree that Doc versus Hansen would be such a hard hitting matchup. It wouldn't be who moves on, it would be who survives.

This was definitely a difficult match for me to make a decision on with a winner or a loser. But at the same time it definitely fits in with my future plans the way that things worked out. We are definitely building toward Starrcade, the biggest show of the year.

Now that I have a win (albeit shared) under my belt, I felt pretty confident that I can go on a streak. Then I saw the show lineup and I'm not sure on a a single one of them :p

Congratulations on two in a row! Could we see three this week?

As stated earlier, this main event was definitely the toughest to call.

Comment: TV champ Eddie Gilbert has a nice ring to it.

Comment: Tough one, but given that the Steiners are so new (in NWA terms having only teamed together for about a month) they can afford to drop this one and pick up a shot later.

Comment: Rather see Gilbert win, but they don't call him Dirty Dick Murdoch for nothing.

The Skyscrapers vs. The Rock 'N' Roll Express
Comment: I have a bad feeling three and a row isn't happening, because I have no idea if this is a good pick or just one I'd like to see happen. I guess it depends on if I remember who the Skyscrapers are correctly or not.

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Dick Murdoch vs. 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert
Comment: As much as Eddie Gilbert is awesome, I fear he is much too inexperienced for the great Dick Murdoch.

Winning Team Gets Title Match Stipulation Added To Their Fall Brawl Match: Road Warriors vs. The Steiner Brothers
Comment: I choose the Warriors, only because I can't imagine the Steiners having any sort of specialty match. Of course, everyone will now tell me all about the time they did a dog collars match or something. On a side note, I love this match.

[World Championship Wrestling begins this week with the sounds of '2001: A Space Odyssey' blaring through the speakers in the sold-out Charlotte Coliseum. The crowd gets on their feet as the curtains part and out comes the NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair! A chorus of 'Whoooooo's' fill the arena as Flair gives a little strut at the top of the ramp and then continues down toward the ring. He slides inside the ring and gives a strut from one corner to the other. The crowd absolutely eats up his every move in his 'hometown.' Flair raises a microphone to his lips.]

Ric Flair
"Whooooooo! Welcome everyone to Ric Flair Country! This is the greatest city in the entire world because it is home to the Nature Boy and the National Wrestling Alliance. In just a few short hours I will be stepping inside the ring against a man from Texas: Terry Funk. Terry, tonight, you are going to have to walk that aisle against a man who always styles and profiles. Whoooooooooo! Remember, the man you're looking at right now is a limousine riding, jet flying, kiss stealing, wheeling and dealing son of a gun!"

[Flair might have continued but he was interrupted by the music that played within the background. Flair looked a little confused and so did many of the fans. After all, this is Ric Flair's time in his hometown. Who in the world would interrupt him right now?]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/jerrylawler2.jpg

Jerry 'The King' Lawler[/B]! Many of the fans know who this man is, some of them obviously don't. But Lawler adjusts the crowd on his head and walks right toward the ring, while Flair stares down 'The King.' Lawler enters the ring and he has a microphone in his hand.]

Jerry Lawler
"So this is the greatest city in the world, Ric? This is a JOKE! This city is manure, it's trash compared to that city which is the King of all cities: Memphis, Tennessee. In case you didn't know, my name is Jerry 'The King' Lawler and I am the King of Memphis wrestling. Back in my hometown, we had a tournament to decide who would be the next man to get a shot at the NWA World Heavyweight title. The winner of that tournament? Is it any surprise? It was me, Jerry 'The King' Lawler. So I spoke with the NWA Championship Committee and tonight you will be putting your title on the line against me, The King."

Ric Flair
"You know what, Jerry Lawler? Maybe I should go down to Memphis, Tennessee and let them see what a real man is supposed to look like. As far as your challenge tonight goes? I'm a sixty minute man. I'll take you on later tonight and then Terry Funk later at Fall Brawl and anyone else who wants to walk that aisle and have the opportunity to be the man."

[The two men come nose to nose in the center of the ring. Lawler cracks a smile and we go to commercial.]

The Skyscrapers vs. The Rock 'N' Roll Express

[Our opening matchup here on World Championship Wrestling is a very strong tag team encounter. The veteran tag team R&R Express showed why they are a veteran team in this matchup early and often as they used some speed and technical ability to try to offset the power advantage that The Skyscrapers hold. Ricky Morton, though, took several bumps, showing the style that he is known for in taking the bumps and getting the hot tag out to Robert Gibson. Gibson, though, is caught in the ring by both Skyscrapers and suffers from a lethal Double Power Bomb. Spivey knocks Morton off the apron as Sid Vicious makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

[As the crowd boos the win by The Skyscrapers, we are taken down to the interview area where Gordon Solie is standing by alongside Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat!]

Gordon Solie
"Good evening wrestling fans! I'm here live at the Charlotte Coliseum in Charlotte North Carolina and standing here with Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat. Ricky, last Thursday on the NWA Power Hour, you were attacked backstage by 'Cowboy' Bob Orton. He seemed to offer a challenge to you about tonight's Fall Brawl show. I would like to get your reaction to that challenge, if I may."

Ricky Steamboat
"Gordon, let me get this right out to Bob Orton. Bob, you made a big mistake when you attacked me last Thursday night. I know that I am just making my return to the National Wrestling Alliance but I am looking to make my return with a big bang. That is why I am accepting the Cowboy's challenge for Fall Brawl. Bob, you can't hide behind your bullrope when we step between the ropes. You have to face the Dragon. And when you face the Dragon, you better prepare to get burned."

[Steamboat nods and shakes hands with Gordon Solie before he turns and walks away with the fans cheering and chanting his name. And now we head backstage.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/NWA.jpg

[Where we are taken backstage is a locker room where Lex Luger is nose to nose with Barry Windham. Windham reaches down and shoves the NWA United States Heavyweight title belt to the floor. Luger looks down at the belt and then slowly looks back up at Windham, showing an annoyed look on his face.]

Lex Luger
"Is that how you treat a title belt in this industry, Barry?"

Barry Windham
"The title doesn't mean anything if you don't have the fans behind you. You obviously don't have them behind you because of your recent actions. I thought you promised me that you would be putting all of that stuff behind you."

Lex Luger
"I have done what I have done to make sure that I am one of the elite. I have to do whatever it takes to make sure that I am one of the top wrestlers and champions in this business, Barry. I don't have my daddy pulling strings for me."

[Windham's eyes go wide at that comment. His fingers curl into fists and he looks ready to strike at Luger. Instead, though, he takes a few deep breaths and turns his back to Luger, moving to walk away instead. Luger reaches down and picks up the NWA U.S. Heavyweight title belt. He looks down at the belt for a moment and then charges Windham from behind, smashing him in the back of the head with the belt! Windham goes down to the floor and Luger puts the boots to him! Guess that ends that friendship, huh? Security steps in quickly but not before Luger spits down on Windham's back and shoulders. Luger is pulled away but things have definitely changed there.]

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 1
Dick Murdoch vs. 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert

[Two tough and hard hitting wrestlers match up in this last match of the first round of the NWA Television title tournament. Murdoch is on his own, while Gilbert brings the lovely Missy Hyatt down to ringside with him. Missy gets into an argument with a fan who is holding up a sign reading: 'I'll pay $50 for a few hours with Missy!' That distracts Gilbert early on and Murdoch holds the early advantage. He gains several near falls but can't quite put Gilbert away. Murdoch sends Gilbert outside the ring and threatens a fan who is holding up a sign reading: 'Dick Murdoch ain't go no time for no Stuff!' Outside the ring, Gilbert suddenly starts to get an advantage, slamming Murdoch into the ring post and then into the steel steps. Back inside the ring, Gilbert maintains this advantage, eventually catching Murdoch with the Hotshot! Gilbert makes the cover, hooking the leg: 1 -- 2 -- 3! 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert advances!]

[We are now taken to some pre-recorded comments. The NWA logo is focused on in the background and then the camera pans out to show Beautiful Bobby Eaton and Sweet Stan Lane. The Midnight Express pace in the small area for a few moments before Lane looks up into the camera.]

Stan Lane
"Normally, the Midnight Express doesn't do a whole lot of talking. We let our actions in the ring do the talking before us. But later on tonight, Bobby and I will be stepping in the ring to face the NWA World Tag Team Champions The Fabulous Freebirds. Freebirds, Bobby and I are tag team specialists. We've been doing this for a very long time together. We know each other like the backs of our hands. That means that you're not going to pull any tricks on us. It also means that at the end of the night, you're going to be losing those belts to the Express."

[In the backstage area, we pick up on a fight that is already in progress. Sting and The Great Muta are exchanging blows by the catering table! Muta kicks Sting in the gut and then bounces his skull off the table. Sting staggers back but manages to duck a roundhouse kick attempt by Muta. Sting grabs Muta and whips him into the table, driving the side of the table into Muta's ribs! Sting with a clothesline that sends Muta up and onto the table. Security tries to step in now but even they have a difficult time keeping these two seperated. That is, until Muta sends that asian mist into the eyes of Sting! The mist blinds Sting and allows Muta to get away...for now.]

Winning Team Gets Title Match Stipulation Added To Their Fall Brawl Match
Road Warriors vs. The Steiner Brothers

[Our semi main event features two of the more popular tag teams in the National Wrestling Alliance as The Road Warriors take on The Steiner Brothers. When you want to talk about hard-hitting action with both teams getting in some great moves, then fans will bring this matchup for years to come. The Road Warriors start off impressive as they always do when their beginning match attacks but the Steiner Brothers manage to fight against that opening match attack! They even turn the advantage around and send the Road Warriors out of the ring! Rick Steiner runs around the ring barking and then drops down on all fours with Scott standing over him in the typical Steiner Brothers pose.]

[Scott Steiner, in particular, shows off here in this match when he catches Hawk with an overhead belly to belly suplex that sends Hawk flying across the ring. Hawk tries to come back in but gets caught with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker that draws a two count pinfall before Animal comes in to break things up. Scott tags out to Rick, who comes in and drops Hawk with a Steinerline. Rick runs around the ring, barking, but gets caught by Animal with a punch as he got too close to the corner. Hawk quickly tags out to Animal.]

[The next few minutes are spent with Hawk and Animal in control. Animal brings down Rick Steiner with a powerslam and makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- Broken Up By Scott Steiner. Remember, the winners of this match get the tag team title stipulation added to their Fall Brawl match where you can win a contract to face the NWA World Tag Team Champions at any time! Animal brings Rick down with a big boot and makes a quick tag. The Road Warriors catch Rick with a double shoulderblock. Hawk brings Rick down with a picture perfect standing dropkick and then a big flying elbowdrop! Hawk pulls Rick up and whips him into a corner -- reversed! Hawk hits the corner hard and Rick moves over, picking him up and setting him on the top turnbuckle. Rick climbs and hooks him around the waist -- Top Rope Overhead Belly To Belly Suplex! Both men lay out on the mat! Animal and Scott Steiner are both looking for a tag! Rick begins crawling toward his corner and so does Hawk. The crowd is absolutely torn here, though, a sign is shown in the audience reading: 'WHAT A RUSH!!!!!' Both men get the tags in the corner.]

[Animal goes down with a Steinerline from Scott Steiner! Scott picks him up and hooks him -- double underhook powerbomb! Scott makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- Broken Up By Hawk! Rick comes in and catches Hawk with a Steinerline! Rick Steiner and Hawk battle in the ring and then outside the ring. Paul Ellering climbs up on the apron as the referee tries to break up the action on the outside. Scott Steiner signals for the Frankensteiner and pulls up Animal. He whips Animal to the ropes -- reversed! Scott Steiner crashes into Paul Ellering, who gets knocked from the apron! Animal brings down Scott with a clothesline and then makes the thumbs up signal for the Doomsday Device! Hawk gets on the apron and Animal tags him in and then lifts Scott on his shoulders as Hawk heads to the top turnbuckle -- Doomsday Device! Scott does a 360 in midair and lands on the mat. Hawk makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winners: Road Warriors (Via Pinfall @ 16:41)

[Animal and Hawk win this battle tonight but the night is not over even here on World Championship Wrestling! Teddy Long brings down Sid Vicious and Dan Spivey to the ring! Woman brings Doom I and Doom II down to the ring and it's absolute pandemonium! It's a wild brawl between four tag teams right here on World Championship Wrestling! The security team comes out quickly to try and enforce order here but it's hard to do with eight men out there all fighting each other! Punches and kicks and clotheslines are all being thrown out there. Doom nearly gets unmasked in the process but security steps in even further to break things up. What a wild moment here!]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/terryfunk2.jpg

[We are taken to another pre-taped vignette. This one is in the usual area with the NWA logo in the background. In the foreground stands the man who is going to get an NWA World Heavyweight title shot later on tonight. Terry Funk stands motionless for a few moments in front of the background, looking at the camera. Usually he is seen with his manager Gary Hart but Hart is nowhere to be found in the picture.]

Terry Funk
"Inside the ring, every wrestler is all alone. It is every wrestler one on one not only with their opponent but with themselves. This is not any more true than in my match later on tonight with Ric Flair in an I Quit match. I am going to be inside my thoughts the entire match just so I don't have to hear Ric Flair talk anymore. This is the one and only match where I am going to actually look forward to hearing that banana-nosed weasel say something. And those two words that he is going to say are going to be 'I Quit.' Because I will never say them. You can beat me with barbed wire. You can beat me with chairs. You can beat me with fire. But I will never say those two words. I will never say 'I Quit.' NEVER, RIC FLAIR!"

[Funk paces for a few moments, staring into the camera with his own usual fire and intensity. A snarl slowly begins to cover his lips building into his face. Funk curls his fingers into a fist and punches toward the camera, knocking the camera to the floor. The camera sees the boots of Funk stand there for a moment before he walks off and we head back to the ring.]

Match #4
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/ricflairc.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/jerrylawler2.jpg
[B]NWA World Heavyweight Title Match
Ric Flair vs. Jerry Lawler

[I][We have come to the main event of the evening and what a main event this should be! The fans had no idea that they would be seeing two NWA World Heavyweight title matches tonight but that's exactly what we are seeing here on World Championship Wrestling and later on when we bring you Fall Brawl! Jerry Lawler comes out first, drawing in boos from the crowd. The King raises his crown and then slides inside the ring, placing the crown in the corner. The crowd absolutely explodes when '2001' begins to play and out comes the Nature Boy Ric Flair! A fan holds up a sign reading: 'Where was #4?!?' Flair walks by him with a smile, flashing 3 fingers with the fourth to come at Fall Brawl. Flair enters the ring and looks right across toward 'The King.']

[As Flair moved to take his robe off, Jerry Lawler went into attack mode on Flair! He assaulted him from behind before Flair could even get the title belt from around his waist! It was Lawler that took the belt and beat Flair with the strap before the referee could get ahold of it and actually ring the bell to start the match. The crowd was absolutely behind Flair and booed everything that Jerry Lawler did in this match. But the first few minutes belonged to the King of Memphis. Lawler uses a lot of punch-kick offense early on against Flair and several restholds, showing that this is going to be a long match. Lawler, though, makes the mistake of bringing Flair into the corner.]

[Flair reverses things in the corner and begins lighting up the chest of the King with those hard knife edge chops! A fifth one and Flair begins a little strut! He ducks a punch attempt by Lawler and brings him down with a shinbreaker! Flair focuses his own moves on the leg of Jerry Lawler, including ramming Lawler's knee against the ring post to much crowd approval! Flair drops a knee on the leg and stretches that leg out in a submission hold but Lawler has no intention of giving up. He eventually reaches the ropes to get the hold broken. Flair yanks Lawler back to the center of the ring and goes for the Figure 4 Leglock but Lawler rolls him into a small package: 1 -- 2 -- 3! -- No! Only a 2 count!]

[Lawler slingshots Flair into the turnbuckles and then stands up, yanking the strap down, his signature second wind! Lawler begins throwing punches against the Nature Boy. A sharp left hand and Flair flops face first to the canvas. Lawler soaks in the boos before he picks up Flair. He whips Flair across -- Flair flips over the turnbuckles and lands on the apron but Lawler grabs him and brings him back in over the top rope! Lawler looks down at Flair -- Fist Drop! One of the King's signature moves! Lawler makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- Kickout! Flair with a big kickout that has the fans going wild! Lawler picks up Flair and pulls him in to a Piledriver position! He lifts him up -- Flair drops back down! Flair lifts Lawler over his head in a back body drop, ramming him right into the referee!]

[With the referee and both men down, the crowd begins a 'Flair' chant! The crowd is really trying to rally Ric Flair! Jerry Lawler crawls over to where his crown has been set down and he picks up the crown. Lawler waits for Flair to walk over where he is in the corner. Flair reaches down to grab Lawler -- WHAM! Flair gets NAILED in the head with the crown! Flair falls backward to the mat in the center of the ring. Lawler places the crown back down and shakes the referee! Could we see the crowning of a brand new NWA World Heavyweight Champion?!?! Lawler crawls over and makes the cover, hooking the leg: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

[The crowd is in absolute shock! The three count was administered! No, it wasn't! The referee signals only a two count! Jerry Lawler gets up celebrating his victory but the referee throws his hands down, telling him that it was only a two count! Referee Tommy Young and Jerry Lawler get into a shoving match before Lawler turns back toward Ric Flair. Lawler pulls Flair up into a Piledriver position. Flair pulls back and trips Lawler up with a double leg trip! Flair holds the legs and steps in -- Figure 4 Leglock! Flair has the Figure 4 locked in! Lawler shakes his head! He is struggling! He is reaching for the ropes! Flair has the hold locked in tight. They're in the center of the ring. Jerry Lawler -- gives! He gives up! The referee calls for the bell!]

Winner: Ric Flair (Via Submission @ 18:37; Ric Flair retains the NWA World Heavyweight title)
Match Rating: A

[Ric Flair retains the NWA World Heavyweight title in this match with Jerry Lawler. The hold is broken but as Flair gets to his feet he is attacked from behind by Terry Funk! This is the man who he will face later tonight at Fall Brawl! Funk has a branding iron! He brings the iron around the throat of Flair! He is choking the NWA World Heavyweight Champion out in the center of the ring! Flair struggles, the crowd beginning to chant for some assistance for Flair! A 'Horsemen' chant goes out but no one comes to the aid of Ric Flair! Funk brings Flair down to the mat with the chokehold and then releases. Funk bashes Flair in the head with the branding iron, causing Flair to be busted open! Funk hits him again and again, opening the wound up. Funk yells at Flair to quit! Finally, some wrestlers come out from the back to stop Terry Funk. But where are the Horsemen? Remember, there's still time to call your local cable operators and order NWA Fall Brawl! Which starts...RIGHT NOW!]

NWA World Tag Team Titles Match: The Fabulous Freebirds defend vs. Midnight Express
Comment: Let's let the Freebirds ride off into somewhere else. MX should rule all!

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 2: The Iron Sheik vs. Barry Windham
Comment: Not a chance here.

Doom vs. The Steiner Brothers
Comment: I kinda think this feud will just continue on for at least another month, and plus the win here makes Doom a force to be reckoned with.

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 2: Buzz Sawyer vs. Brad Armstrong
Comment: Almost too bad for Brad, but I think the J-Tex will need to have someone move forward in this.

NWA United States Heavyweight Title Match: Lex Luger defends vs. Junkyard Dog
Comment: This is one thing I always kinda admire about ad in NWA diaries, he'll take someone like JYD and give them an actual chance. There's not much of a chance, but he gave him something to do.

'Cowboy' Bob Orton vs. Ricky Steamboat
Comment: See above comment.

Winners earn contract to face NWA World Tag Team Champions any time they please: The Skyscrapers vs. The Road Warriors
Comment: I think the RW are almost above the titles at the moment, whereas the Skyscrapers could make a serious run toward them. The Warriors can be free to feud with some J-Tex or Horsemen members?

The Great Muta vs. Sting
Comment: Were there a title amongst this, I would say maybe something different. But Sting can take the win here in order to end this feud.

NWA World Heavyweight Title Match, I Quit Match: Ric Flair defends vs. Terry Funk
Comment: Naitch is your moneymaker, and that isn't going to change anytime soon.

Signs:
Birds can't handle it at Midnight!
The Team of DOOM

Horsemen ride all night long

Can't wait for the show man!

NWA World Tag Team Titles Match: The Fabulous Freebirds defend vs. Midnight Express
I'd prefer the Hayes/Gordy/Roberts version... but it should be a good opener.

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 2: The Iron Sheik vs. Barry Windham
Don't see Windham winning it... but he'd be a great guy to put a new heel champ over in the Final

Doom vs. The Steiner Brothers
Doom need the win more to be seen as a credible threat.

NWA Television Title Tournament, Round 2: Buzz Sawyer vs. Brad Armstrong
Bless him, Brad's not got a hope here.

NWA United States Heavyweight Title Match: Lex Luger defends vs. Junkyard Dog
JYD is way past his best by now, but he can still do a job putting Lex over.

'Cowboy' Bob Orton vs. Ricky Steamboat
Same as the last match really.

Winners earn contract to face NWA World Tag Team Champions any time they please: The Skyscrapers vs. The Road Warriors
Toughie but I've plumped for heel teams in every other match...

The Great Muta vs. Sting
A Muta win would do him wonders and wont particularly hurt the Stinger either.

NWA World Heavyweight Title Match, I Quit Match: Ric Flair defends vs. Terry Funk
Much as I love him, I can't see The Funker taking this one.
