Well, here it is. I've done a few hours testing, and it's sound. Technically, at least. I'm releasing it to the world at large to help me perfect the balance. I encourage any and all to make their own modifications to it; add to it, streamline it, make their own versions. Again, I make no promises that this will actually be fun. The powers may be wonky. This is still very much a work in progress. No refunds if Toad ends up destroying the universe.

Via MediaFire, for as long as they exist. (http://www.mediafire.com/?ztbrbm7hcdjd8xd)

I'm updating the image pack I had posted earlier, and will repost through MediaFire soon. Currently, characters also lack biographies and dialogue. That's something I may add in the future, but right now I'm going to take a break. And maybe, you know, play the game a little.

Any comments, suggestions, insults or ancient Norse curses may be hurled below.

Here are the images for use with my database. Most are from the Marvel Wikia Database galleries, so some might be of lower quality or outside the Marvel canon.

Cool, Will be downloading and playing this tonight. Just wondering, what is the Character count up to in this version?

Just having a quick flick through and it certainly looks good to me. Plenty of characters and the abilities and such seem correct to me. Well done!

I’ve started a game as Spider-Man and so far after a few hours of play this Mod has been great. It’s clear that a lot of love and attention to detail has gone into this and it makes for a very playable and fun experience. Thank you!

Hey, thanks guys. Right now the character count is up to 460-something. I still feel like there are some characters I want to add, but that's probably just me. I think the world can live without Pip the Troll.

Brilliant so far, having fun playing as Ghost Rider and dealing out some justice in New York :-) Really like the detail and amount of characters included (I like the early 90´s era a lot aswell). Hoping for the Dialouge section to be added to in the next release, it would bring this mod to a whole new level if, for example, Deadpool would have running banter through the battles. Keep up the good work, it´s highly appreciated :-)

Very nice work. A couple of things here and there I would personally change ( For exemple : Thanos set as Quite attractive and dabbling in Magic, Deadpool without Motormouth, ...) but I had a lot of fun so far.

Oh, and Sunturion keeps kicking my arse ... Decoys + changing his physical state makes a VERY tough opponent to beat.

Looks good! I like the locations set-up and the number of characters.

My first impression biggest issue is the pretty strange way popularity seems to be incorporated and the pretty weak powers across the board. It doesn't seem to make a lot of internal sense that Kingpin and Kang are treated as equal level threats (although both are more popular than Hulk foes the Abomination or former Avenger with Thor level strength Wonder Man).

What seems like a bigger issue is that even tough characters don't have particularly strong attacks, and characters without huge powers seem to be waiving pillows at one another. My first fight against Hydro Man turned into a war of attrition as I chipped away at him 220 points at a time (when he didn't turn to water). Meanwhile Hydro Man couldn't even touch Spider-Man, with his combination of super-powered agility (agree), reactions (disagree) hand to hand bonus(???), and spider-sense. I like the relatively low toughness' of most characters, but that should be combined with more diverse power levels to keep fights from being a grind.

Also it's very strange that Spider-Man is a "legendary" hero or that supporting X-Force and mini-series character Deadpool would be so popular.

That's not to be down on this- I think the locations are cool, the number of characters are great, and there's a lot of potential!

Oh, I agree, the two biggest weaknesses are the popularity and the powers. I tried to judge popularity by how big a "threat" people were, ie Kingpin is prominent enough to warrant a couple heroes to thwart him and whoever he is using as henchmen. Some were obvious whiffs, like Wonderman and maybe some of the "omega threats" that aren't super popular, like the Midgard serpent or Maestro.

With powers my theory was to give most everyone a basic set of combat moves of a similar level (with variance allowed for cosmic or enhanced basic combat moves, like Thing's punch) and let the attributes like "enhanced melee" and "combat trained" couple together with the ability levels. For example, Hammerhead and Rogue both have the same "Regular 5 Punch", but the intention was that Rogue would out class him due to her higher strength and warrior attribute. Obviously this has lead to the pillow fights, and the powers probably need some tweaking so the battles don't go on forever.

I'm going to play around with it for a bit, see if I can understand the mechanics of the game better before I start fiddling with the powers on a grander scale. But keep the feed back coming, the more I hear from you guys who have played the game a lot across a bunch of mods the better.

Thanks!

Great mod i have to say. However there was a little thing that did caught me off guard

Im in Vol #5. with a custom anti-hero. And so far the toughest opponent i have faced was Living Laser?

I rolled over both versions of Apocalypse with ease compared to the length it took to beat Laser (and i was with Tundra, Black Widow, Spidey 2099 and Daredevil in beating him)

Apart from that, i have had nothing but fun times with this mod :-)

Not got very far with this, but I think you've done a great job so far. I'd echo the comments about powers being a bit too weak (Captain America, for example, needs some much better attacks), but the base is definitely there.

The other thing I'd consider is reducing the number of attributes for some of the characters. Sebastian Shaw, for example, has 10 and it means that most attacks do 0 damage. I'm sure the more it gets played the more you'll be able to iron things out though.

Good job! :)

Yeah, I don't really know how to solve what I call the "Briar Rabbit problem." So many villains outclass their regular superheroes with regard to physical ability (Ironman and Fin Fang Foom, for example) and if they fought on a neutral field in a straight up fight, the hero would lose every time. The heroes always use some clever trick, using the villain's own aggressiveness or stupidity to overcome them (Ironman using those herbs to put Fin Fang Foom back to sleep). Spider-man is another great example of this. He really shouldn't be able to defeat Electro, but he somehow manages to make himself short circuit every time.

Turns out there are some characters that, if translated straight across, end up super ****ing powerful and hard to hit, like Living Laser and Hydro-man.

There has to be some concession to gameplay when making these types of villains. The easiest way, I would think, with this mod is to adjust the attributes first of all. Looking through it you've got a lot of Level 3 attributes - these give an enormous bonus on their own (30% usually), but when a character has loads of them then they become too difficult to fight. Same applies to heroes as well, of course.

For example, I don't think Ant Man needs both Can Shrink and Is Of Tiny Size as it gives him an extra 9 rolls in defense (I'd probably go for Is of Tiny Size for what it's worth).

EDIT: Actually, I'm tempted to stick with Can Shrink. But you get the point! Looked through most of the villains and I think you've got most of them spot on. I'll keep playing and let you know what I think. :)

EDIT 2: Hydro-Man's doubling of attacks seems a bit overpowered for me. I'd keep the physical state altering but remove the size changing abilities. Perhaps just bump his strength up instead?

Well characters like Electro, Shocker, Rhino, and others that aren't seen as the "major" Spider-Man threats should have less popularity than Spidey, and certain attribute boosts might be too much for a level 3-5 villain. If they have high powers they're still doing big damage when they hit, and can easily overwhelm low level heroes, but most of the time the heroes will be able to avoid taking damage enough that their strategy (and cunning bonuses) help give them the win. But they should still have a big attack that even if it isn't a guaranteed hit can do big damage to take out low level schmucks or occasionally win a fight against a Spider-Man or Captain America, who win most fights due to their defense, cunning, and persistence more than big flashy attacks.

I think another issue jhd1 touched on is while powers seem to be very weak, there's a lot of very strong attributes in play, sometimes more than necessary. Like I alluded to in my first post, it doesn't make much sense for Spidey to have agility bonus, plus danger sense bonus, plus hand-to-hand bonus: he's not a great hand to hand fighter and that's just overkill (without moving Spidey's popularity to around level 6, it's all overkill anyway). In your example with Rogue and Hammerhead, both should have at least one "super" attack (Hammerhead's charge), but you mention Rogue having the "warrior" attribute, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me as that's a seed value boost/puzzle solving penalty designed for characters like Wolverine more than Rogue.

If anyone wants to host it, change it then rehost it, use it to build their own Marvel or other mods, please, go ahead. This mod does have its warts, but I'm glad people are enjoying it.

There are a couple like that...the Exiles, Daken, Scarlet Spider, Generation X, some Age of Apocalypse villains...that I wanted to put in as "future" characters that would debut as you played. The only way I could do that was to put them on hiatus so they were invisible in the game initially, then popped up later.

On a similar subject, I actually can't believe I went this long with noticing that Crimson Dynamo was put as a hero, Hahaha.

Can I use your mod to add to my "World Heroes" one? It would be awesome to have the nugget of Marvel you created in there.
Of course i'd make some alterations since I choose to base the Marvel there in the 2000's and I'd probably cut new pictures for several workers and rebalance it so it fits on my own. But it would help me greatly to have a base.

In the 90's he was a Soviet Super Soldier, a hero team from Russia post URSS. So he was a good guy.

I'm having a lot of fun with this mod, except the villain Master Mold seems to be waaaaay too powerful. His ability to clone himself is brutal, I can live with the 6000 health but the fact I hit a clone 15 out of every 16 attacks is a real bummer...
