Enter the Dragon Fighting Championships...a fresh showcase of the traditional combat arts...and the stage of their evolution!
Rightly or wrongly many people associate MMA with brute force, hard hitting striking, and violent knockouts. These elements are a part of the fighting game that many companies showcase, but the newly announced Japanese promotion Dragon Fighting Championships plan to showcase another area of MMA that some people overlook or are just uneducated in all together.
Submission Wrestling is a combat art that favours the tactical and technical, mastering this combat art allows one to channel the Dragon within and become a Warrior, no matter his/her appearance or size.
Submission Wrestling has a rich history in Japan and now with the arrival of the Dragon Fighting Championships the goal is simple…Ensure that this traditional combat art maintains its place in Japanese culture and help it evolve in the future to become a worldwide phenomenon.
“We respect that Alpha-1 is the biggest MMA promotion in the World” said the English spokesperson for DFC Matthew Roberts in a candid interview “it’s getting people talking, many people love to watch it, that’s great…but many people watch it for the flash, who’s getting knocked out next? How spectacular will that knockout look? the Dragon Fighting Championships aim to show people that MMA is much deeper than that, you can see somebody get knocked out in a bar fight on a Saturday night…but how often do you see somebody tap out to a Lapel Choke in a bar fight? How many people even know what a Lapel Choke is? Everybody knows punches and kicks…but not the fighting arts, these are what need to be showcased and the Dragon Fighting Championships will be the platform to do so….our rule structure will ensure that the deepest elements of Submission technique will be seen. Our shows will provide enjoyment as well as education; people will come away from a Dragon Fighting Championships event with a greater understanding of the intricacies of MMA and the tactics and techniques involved.”
Who has the power, technique and tactical wisdom to channel the Dragon within? Who is destined to become the first Chikara trophy holder?

What is the Chikara Trophy?
Chikara, the translated definition of this word is Power, strength, capability….these are characteristics that any fighter who plans to be successful in the Dragon Fighting Championships will need to display. To exert your physical will over an opponent to the point in which you gain a victory is a decisive display of Power, as for strength…this can be physical but it can also be mental, a strong minded fighter with the capability to showcase technique will have a great advantage in the Dragon Fighting Championships.
The first event in the Dragon Fighting Championships will take fighters from all over the World and give them a chance to showcase themselves in a one night Tournament, the winner of this Tournament will walk away with the Chikara Trophy. This will leave the World with no doubt that they have channelled the Dragon within and have successfully displayed all of the characteristics both of a physical and mental nature to become the best.
DFC officials are in talks with fighters throughout Japan as well as the rest of the World to ensure that a great tournament is created; the first fighter to officially sign to compete comes to us from Russia.Grigory Kabalevsky
http://i309.photobucket.com/albums/kk394/MattycUnlimited/GrigoryKabalevsky.gifMy name is Grigory Kabalevsky, I’m a 20 year old practitioner of Judo from Yekaterinburg, Russia.
I’m undefeated with a record of 2-0; I look forward to coming to Japan to test myself in the Dragon Fighting Championships. I’m happy that this Promotion reached out to me and I look forward to the chance to represent my Country.
I will show that Russia produces the best Fighters and I shall also show why Judo is the number one fighting discipline. The Chikara Trophy is leaving Japan with me and it’s coming to the Motherland.
More information coming shortly
More fighters are expected to be announced for the Chikara Trophy tournament in the coming days along with the date it’s scheduled to take place. The rules for the Dragon Fighting Championship’s shall also be announced.
