CAKE or DIE: Discussion Thread

also I think the next micro game should be survivor. no night phases just day phases, start with 10 players, vote people out group of 8 victims vote the winner.

Because if everyone chooses CAKE, the Chosen One wins and because if everyone chooses DIE, the Chosen One dies.

It isn't lose-lose. People will likely be tempted to choose cake, but if everyone chooses cake, everyone that votes loses.

It's a conundrum. Do you trust everyone to choose DIE? You know SOMEONE will choose CAKE, but do you want to risk having everyone choose CAKE? Do you want to be THAT guy? Of course, if you're the ONLY one to choose CAKE, it's down to you and the Chosen One!

See? It's a social experiment type of mind game. It mostly boils down to luck.

There's no discussion which makes it all internal conflict.

If this become popular, we can open a new thread for every game and make it free conversation. People can make pacts and we can maybe figure out a way to add ulterior motives (like having to die in a certain round or something).

I'm curious to know if anyone would say they were influenced by my post at all. I know there were a few votes in before I'd posted it, but I like to think I psyched some of you out with it. Fun game all, I didn't think I'd get a first round win but I knew the odds favoured me while the numbers were high. I know my group psychology. :D

Yeah, there's no way people are gonna let this happen again, which will be a good thing for future games. As long as people realise that they have no chance at winning by always playing safe then the games should be longer and more fun.

Remember, a vote for DIE is a vote to screw over whoever The Chosen One is. :cool:

The "goal" is for everyone to vote DIE. That's supposed to be the "acceptable" thing to do.

Without any clear incentive, the game is pure social chaos, though. You can't assign a moral of societal value to a random game of no consequence.

Here's 2 key things I've noticed with this game:

1. Players are much more likely to choose DIE during Round 1 when it isn't stated in the rules that their own vote will be made public. Obviously it has to be because there's 2 options and if things are unanimous or not, you know what everyone voted. However, not being specifically made aware of the fact not only removes any fear of shame or responsibility, but it also activates some sort of anonymous mischievousness that we have programmed in us.

2. Playing live with friends is much more balanced. There's no concrete reason why, but try this with a group of 5 or 6 friends. It likely won't end in round 1. When you read something, first of all, you process it logically more quickly than when you hear something verbally. (Imagine READING the ShamWow! or SlapChop commercial instead of watching it...) Secondly, being face to face with people creates a new dynamic.

In the next game, if you vote DIE, you may choose to name one other player that you think will vote CAKE. If you're right, they die and their vote isn't counted. If you're wrong, you die no matter how the voting plays out and your vote isn't counted.

If you vote CAKE, you just have to hope no one calls you on it.

Does that sound like a good idea to anyone?
