Something tells me this idea is either genius or absolutely stupid. Run your own MMORPG game, the ultimate online addiction. There's quite a bit that could go into such a simulator of a simulation. Build up from a simple MUD into a full-fledged Everquest slayer.
Setting payment options
Developing expansions and eventually sequels
Overseeing moderators and customer support staff to keep players happy
Maintenance of servers
Balancing classes and equipment
Preventing cheaters and hackers
Getting corporate sponsorship and following their policies or going it on your own as an independent developer
Different fantypes to appease from hardcore leveling addicts, goldfarmers, roleplayers, and casual fans
Tons of other little things you could throw in from advertising, developing a game tied in with a movie (Matrix, Star Wars Galaxies), spinoffs like strategy guides and collectibles.
