View Full Version : Renewed appeal for search filters

So, fired up the game again for the first time in a few months, and...

Please let us access basic info that is already stored within the game!

We can search for retired fighters (which has very little use), but not unemployed fighters, or fighters on a winning streak/won last time out which would all be extremely useful?

How about a search filter for jiu-jitsu fighters, or strikers, muay thai fighters, wrestlers, etc?

The ability to save search filters?

We have a shortlist function, but we can't then filter the shortlist in any way, not even by weight! Or not even in the same ways that we can the existing limited normal searches. (The shortlist not alerting you to events for that fighter is another, but also very relevant, matter)

We can bring up the fighter profiles by double clicking from the 'unavailble fighters' screen and in the editor, single clicking the pictures in the booking screens, but in the roster screen, roster analysis and searches you have to highlight and click 'view profile', and from the contract screen you can't get to the fighter profile at all?????

It is a very addictive game, and has a lot of positives, but you really have to work hard to get over some of the unfriendliness of the GUI.

If there is to be a WMM3 (and I do hope that there is) please make it easier to use. Not easier to play, or easier to uncover hidden info, just easier to access the info that is already there.

I definitely think we need to be able to search for fighters on winning streaks, or search for fighters by current form, because it greatly affects the game. A very popular fighter might not be as much use as normal if he's on a losing streak, so you end up paying over the odds for a guy that can't put on a satisfactory main event, which screws you up.

Yes, we should be looking anyway, but the search filters are there for ease and speed, so it makes no sense not to have this in there.

On "style", though, I don't think it would ever work. There are so many different fighting styles in the world, and particularly on Cornellverse you've got very unique styles listed which I personally like. The only option would be to have umbrella labels - muay thai, street fighting and boxing would have to go into an umbrella called "strikers", BJJ and JJ and submission fighters would be listed as "ground", then there's "hybrid" to consider etc. etc. etc., but as soon as you start forcing square pegs into round holes for the sake of a search filter, you start messing unnecessarily IMO.

What about guys who are muay thai and BJJ but not wrestling? Are they "Hybrid", or "Mixed Martial Artists", and how are they different to wrestlers who are strong as BJJ but can't strike, or strikers who can wrestle but are poor on the ground? When you start thinking of all the little combinations it becomes pointless, overcomplicated and achieves the opposite of your intention - to make things EASIER to find.

But yes, I agree that streaks NEED to be searchable.

If the game is going to continue to move forward in time a couple of years with every installment, then things like 'Arabian Shadow Boxing' should be eliminated anyway. They don't have any effect on the game and most people stopped claiming these 'joke' TMA's in the 90's.

By this point in the timeline, most guys should be hybrid fighters to an extent. Instead of listing bizzare styles, perhapse have a mini star graph with 'Striking', 'Submission', 'Control', 'Takedowns' or whatever to allow you to easily match fighters style-wise.

A mini star graph is a great idea, in my opinion, if it was found directly on the booking screen. We kind of create these pictures mentally anyway, it's just hard to keep track of when you're simply playing a game than takes minutes instead of pouring over a show for weeks in real life.

I would love that to be included.

Or in the camps screen, I would like there to be a drop down menu where I can choose a person and it'll bring up his camp. As it is, I'm running a game where I primarily do one night tournaments, but a lot of guys don't get used because they all belong to the same camp and refuse because of the possibility that they will fight each other. I wouldn't have signed the majority of them had I been able to see they were in the same camp. As far as I can tell, the only way I can see what camp someone belongs to is if I look at each individual camp.
