You will be able to port over your database you use to start games, but not your saves.

The same as in TEW 2008.

What you probably read was about the ability to export the information to a spreadsheet. It was mentioned that there would be no way to go from spreadsheet back to the game.

So just to clarify I can not play any game from TEW 2008 in TEW 2010?

From the first post of the Developer's Journal:

Q: Will TEW08 databases be compatible?
A: Not directly, but TEW2010 comes with a converter that will update a TEW08 database to make it compatible. The converted databases will be instantly playable, although they may need some minor work to incorporate some of the new features.

Q: Will TEW08 save games be compatible?
A: No; although the game is written on top of TEW08, they are two entirely separate games.

No. It means the database that your saved game used will be instantly playable. But you will have to start the game again (and therefore have different chemistry notes and so forth)

I was using the "No Holds Barred" real world database. So that will convert ok with the new game? What kind of "minor work" will be needed to make them work ok?

While I'm not sure about what exactly is the amount of 'minor work' that would be required, converting a database should be as simple as just running it through the converter and that would let it be playable with just a few things acting a little bit weird without having touched up the data.

IIRC, there was a couple of new stats for workers when moving from '05 to '08 which had to be filled out. I think that the same thing is probably going to be true, either in terms of a new stat or two for workers and/or something else.

Thanks Reaper.

Then my next question, does anyone know if the "No Holds Barred" mod is going to be updated by it's maker? (Not sure who that is I'm sorry to say, as it has been some time since I downloaded it, but can say I loved it!)

Or - Any other real world mods coming out that cover the time span of say 1985 on?
