As I'm sure you all know, I've been working on an update to the CV97 throughout the development of TEW2010. Being on the development team is pretty handy for such things, especially as it gave me a good excuse to test out the long term stabilty of the game as I was going and to see if I could break the editor. :)

Anywho, this is mostly an update to let you all know that it's coming soon. I'm going to be playing the game a fair bit myself over the coming months but the mod is mostly complete already. I've balanced out many stats based on the 2008 data so all I'm doing is adding new workers and teams, which I have already started on. So...

STILL TO DO

- Add new workers (less than 400 to go) and relevant tag teams/alter egos/relationships for them

ESTIMATED RELEASE DATE: First quarter of 2010

Yay for this! CV97 is a great mod, even though I preferred CV75, but had an excellent tournament based European fed that was really fun to book and all. Still, looking forward for this!

I think Derek_B is right to do CV97 first. It's going to take far less time than CV70s will because so many of the workers are the same as the default, whereas CV70s Derek has to do so, so, so many workers.

When CV97 comes out we'll get a lot of play out of that while Derek can then take as long as he needs to do CV70s.

Yeah..wrong.

Mr T, SadisticBlessings and I primarily did the 75 mod way back for TEW07.

I'm jealous that derek got a head start, but I'm dying to see how he incorprates the new features (so we can put them to use when the 7os mod comes out)

Why would it move to 99?

Derek B
01-20-2010, 08:17 PM
Always good to hear that people are interested in the mod, it's received a lot of love since the last iteration and has advanced (in terms of awesomeness) while not advancing at all (same start date).

Just for the record, I have nothing to do with the 70s Cverse. I've stolen many of their ideas and the team behind their awesome mod has stolen many of mine, with mutual permission of course. I'm looking forward to an update of the 70s mod and a new 80s mod one day too. And I know that several people have plans to use 97 as a base for other mods too, so I'm hoping to make it the best yet. Which it should be. :)

As for other mods... you never know where 1997 could lead, the possibilites are endless and the ideas are always there in my head waiting for me to stop being lazy and do them. :D

Would love to be part of the test crew if the chance presents its self, that said im 100% excited for this, cant wait for more of the earlier historical db's to come, i assume thats a massive task now that we can finaly have era's and ageing pictures, playing SWF over multiple decades into its current form historicaly is going to be win mode.

I likely won't have much or even anyone on a testing team. Since the mod hasn't changed time frame at all that means that most people are at about the same position as they have always been. And since I know the data worked well within TEW08, I also know it works well within TEW2010.

Having said that, there will be some testing to make sure everything works as planned and I might give some people a shot at trying it out before I do a full release. Don't PM me though cos my inbox is full of mafia game related stuff, just post here in the thread. :)

And for a quick update, I've currently got all the new workers from A-F completed. Might manage another couple of letters tonight... perhaps Y, since it doesn't have anyone. :p

Every new update to the Cornellverse throws up some retcon work that needs to be done. Several guys have had their situations changed as a result of some of those changes and I've also edited some people around a bit to be better fits... and added some history/backstory for existing workers based on observations and stuff. It turns out that GCG took a huge hit when both PGHW and HGC formed, which is unfortunate for them but fun for the mod. :)

For those of you wanting status updates I've only got a handful of letters to go. M, N, P, R, S and T. Of course, that's still between 150-180 workers to go, but that does mean I'm way ahead of schedule in terms of getting stuff done. Testing shouldn't take long since most of the stats are already balanced in previous testing... I just need to make a few decisions based on some other bits and pieces and who knows, this could easily be ready within a few weeks. :D

Im wondering, will this version hold the possibility of Nemesis actually going to DAVE? Unlike 2008 where he most of the time just sat there as a free agent and looked menacing...

Also, would you mind if i lived out that one thing ive been wanting to do with this mod since many months ago: Make a Cverse 98 set in August so you get all the SOTBPW, UCR, DAVE and SCCW goodness that came in the first 8 months of the year?

It's only been a couple.. wait, a few... wow, time flies!

All workers added, just need to tweak some business/owner stats and add a European promotion for the data to be complete. Rough betas should be out tomorrow to everyone who seems desperate to get their hands on one... and the full release shouldn't be more than about a week away, assuming I don't suddenly end up with tons more real life stuff on my doorstep. May have a new job starting soon, so I'm making it a priority to get this done before then as I have no desire to try mixing the two things at the same time. :)

I edited mine so that Nemesis started as DAVE's booker, just to make it historically right in the long run. I mean he's basically DAVE booker one or two months after leaving SWF so...

Today's update consists of me grumbling that I've seen more business and booking stats than I could ever have hoped to use. I'm so glad I got Adam to add the "can be owner" and "can be booker" tickboxes, it woulda beena nightmare otherwise. :)

So, all workers have been looked through... the last thing I should really do with workers is play with personalities again thanks to the conservative-liberal attribute. I've done some work on it but it's a pain to edit so many personalities. Tomorrow will see Europe get it's new promotion... then on with the testing. :D

It's mostly the future that has changed, though there have been some changes to the present... timelines are confusing. :p

Game is definitely playing out nicely just now, though it's not quite finished. I've got some tinkering to do with future workers with the conservative-liberal trait and some narratives to tweak. So for anyone I promised early betas to, or information or anything like that... fire a PM my way and I'll dliver on request. I'm guessing they're non-wrestlers, the AI will automatically fill up non-wrestling roles that are short in any game area even if you have generation set to off.

Which reminds me... while there's obviously no need to have worker generation on, I recommend to play with it on low in the CV97. I like having dojos that do stuff, and I'd hate to have the option of making a dojo while knowing it won't generate people. :)

So...

I can't seem to find any information on this, figure you're the expert, I'll ask here...

Where, exactly, is XFW located?

Obviously PPPW is located in Pennsylvania, and I have a gut feeling that DAVE is too (since, you know, it IS ECW)... which would make it seem awfully crowded if XFW was in the same state too. Obviously with RPW somewhere in the Mid-Atlantic, they don't have to be THAT close together for the East Coast Wars to be going down...

And NYCW is in NYC, obviously, but aren't actively participating sooo...

Jersey?

Could I be able to make a diary called "Kevin Smith Does XFW?"

Jersey almost seems to make too much sense...

The Celt
02-10-2010, 09:38 AM

I'm still busying away on little background things and actually playing TEW too. Levelling minor stats for debuting workers like respect and tweaking overness... changing liberal/conservative biases... little things to make the long term actually work out since most workers are still in the middle and that would make long term games kinda lame for some kinds of promotion.

No fixed release date... I'm not rushing anything and I'm doing other bits and pieces too. Will almost certainly be February sometime though, but I'm not gonna guarantee anything. :)

hi derek, good news!

can you tease us some changes/additions to the game world? will there be new workers? new starting promotions? altered promotions?

I think Europe & Australia lacked a promotion starting in 97, since, if i remember correctly, there were plenty of workers who could work only in one of these areas so they were practically useless, since the first european fed appears in mid 98 and in Australia around 2000-2001

I think SWF is a lot more interesting in 97' then it is today. Just look at the roster

-Bruce the Giant
-Sean McFly
-Christian Faith
-Sam Keith
-Mr.Supreme (Whose quite fun)
-Jim Force!
-No Way Jose (It's nice to have an Eddie Guerrero around)
-Tommy Cornell of course
-Rory McCallum (A good sub for Rowdy Roddy Pipper :) )
-Black Hat Bailey

And at this point HGC is middish 90s WCW, as they've taken a bunch of over the hill superstars from SWF in order to give themselves instant star quality.

HGC is twelve times cooler than TCW. TCW sucks.

To be fair to HGC only Dusty Streets, Rip Chord, Sam Strong, Larry Vessey and The Demons of Rage are over the hill. Peter Valentine, Mr. Lucha and Dread still have fuel in the tank and BLZ Bubb, Bryan Vessey, RDJ, Liberty are all under 30.

Yeah I guess I was stating the obvious with SWF being WWE.

Mhhh, and I wonder...does this mean that TCW are NWA posers?

EDIT: Just to come back to the age thing...you'd better be careful when you throw that around

SWF's Champion Sam Keith is 36, and it's upper card is made up of The Lords of War (late 30s), The Perfect Storm (early 40s), Sid Streets (40), Rory "I'm not Roddy Pipper" McCallum (37), No Way Jose (35), Cheatin Mike Barstow (50!), Bubbles the Clown (52!), Alex Pierce (42), and Black Hat Bailey (35)

Oh, and it's youth movement is Sean McFly...and Jim Force!

It doesn't matter how old SWF's upper card is if they just have ... Jim FOOOOORCEEE~!

I want to start a game as HGC. It's just an ace roster to start with.

Sam Strong & Rip Chord means insta-A+ segment power to fuel your shows. :p

Well, at least for 3 months, until Sam Strong either dies or retires, whichever comes first.

In '08, he died on me... a lot of times. :p (might've been the '08 c-verse data tho, meh)

Just a quick update for those of you who care. :)

Progress has been slow but fruitful, I've caught a handful of future workers who were debuting with their old overness levels from TEW08 (or maybe even TEW07!) and flattened out a lot of stats to bring respect into line with.. everything else. Will be especially good for those of you who like young lions to have to pay their dues and the like, with tweaks to also lower the overness of future workers too... and give them updated/altered personalitites.

Given that it's unlikely anyone is going to ever really get to the 10 year mark of a game, I'm going to finish up to the end of 2006 for stat tweaks and then put the finishing touches to the first release of the mod. There will almost certainly be a 2.0 down the line with data brought in from other mods, picture sets completed and stuff like that too... but that could be a looooong ways away.

And for those of you wh oI haven't sent beta data to, here's a quick sample bio from one of the Cornellverse's most notorious stars. :)

BIG SMACK SCOTT BIO: Big Smack Scott (Scott Sinclair) is without a doubt, one of the most violent men to ever step into a wrestling ring, not that his matches spend much time there. His in-ring character and his real self are so similar as to be almost indistguishable, with Scott known to be a total meathead jock and one of the most self centered people ever known. The few acts of kindness he has ever done to help people were to attempt to get his idiot brother a job (not even XFW wanted him though) and to get XFW to hire a stripper he met one night and promised the world to.

Among his self hype tools are a range of mythical or pointless moves, including an exaggerated elbow drop that sees Scott take nearly a minute to hit after bouncing off the ropes and the Shooting Smack Press, a never seen shooting star press that Scott promises to break out on a special occasion. For the sake of his opponents, it had better be never..

Release, coming soon-ish! :D

Ah man, I was talked into doing that once...trying to replace severed eyeballs 49 knots off mainland Taiwan is NOT my idea of fun. The Chinese government is still hunting my ass. "Oh...how could you bring such a weapon of mass destruction so close to our shores" and all this, like all 1 Billion Chinese were in danger...just a few thousand

You know what I didn't like about the previous C-Verse 97 data? How the DeColts had A* tag team experience. Even though they're brothers, they're all in their early twenties at this point. Good experience, sure, but perfect seemed overkill. In fact, I thought the DeColts were overpowered in a lot of ways. They might have natural presence and charisma, but good mic skills take time.

Been a while since I looked at it though. Top stuff, just niggling "How dare you give The Miz D star quality???" quibbles. :)

The Celt

Eh, it's just sort of a TEW rule of thumb that Tag Team who are related get A* experience. It represents both the fact they were in all likely-ness trained together and the fact that the bond between family means they've known each other all their lives. When you know someone for 20 odd years that seen as a superior experience to having tagged with a guy for a couple of years.

A big thing in Tag wrestling is being able to predict and know what your partner will do and what's he's thinking. That can take years to prefect. With family you come to the table with that already established.

EDIT: By the way guys, Just with Nemesis, he may want a bit of a decrease on his populity from 08. In 08 he's B+, which is more pop than Jim Force, Black Hat Bailey and others around the top of SWF Midcard. At that pop he's popular enough to be challenging Sam Keith, the World champ ya know?

Maybe this is fixed in a later version of TEW 2010, but I find the long (amusing) AMW narratives are unreadable outside of the DB editor. The news always cuts them off :(

@derek_b: Do you have alts for the few workers that don't have them? I copied over my '08 '97 pic pack over and that cleared up the majority of the workers, but there are still a few without pics, like Dream Girl (hubba hubba ;))

Also, a suggestion for AMW would be to add more workers to written contracts. Namely Thomass Goddard and Corey Smith, with James Sinclair being optional.

I like the idea of taunting the user by having 8 guys on written deals (9 if you include the user character) and not having enough wrestlers to actually do house shows, being 1 or 2 short. The user will be so close from getting some free money & exposure, but alas they'll be impossibly far because they know they'll never be able to sign on another written worker for a long...long time.

Also the existing AMW workers are on random contract length. I remember in '08 they were on something like 2 or 3 year contracts and that worked out nicely. It sucks having Joel or The Rev's contract come up within a month of gameplay and Trenton refusing to let you resign.

I mean, yeah that's part of the challenge but I think it destroys the "awesome" backstage atmosphere if trenton just fires all of them.

Which is why I think Corey, Thomas, and James should be on written deals because there is NOTHING to stop any rational booker from immediately firing those three and raising their backstage morale by 10 pts.

When I played through the game the first time, I never used any of them, and generally fired all of them as quickly as I could replace them. However, it was more challenlging with them on long written deals and I ended up being forced to use them because

(a) they're cheap
(b) I have them for a long time...might as well try and develop them...

Finally, I find it odd that Rock Downpour gets immediately fired from all his gigs right off the bat...

Personally I like using the new(ish) render of Kali Fornia as Dream girl's render. It's just a new match and Kali Fornia doesn't see much action () in the default data anyways

Also I've come up with a nice little idea playing as XFW today...

Womanizer Robbie Gordon as a user character. In 1997 Robbie is 48, which isn't too bad considering The Blazing Flames, The Stomper, Sheik Mustafa, Ernest Mason and few others are still knocking around.

I've been using him in a similar way to how Phil Vibert used Nemesis sort of way, basically being a guy so over he drags the rest of the card up with him. Very handy, as XFW really needs one of "those" guys to lift them up.

I gave him stats based on his 70s model, with a good bit of deterioration. Pop at C+ in the US. Makes him kinda similar to big Dunc, only more over and with a TON of charisma

Could you imagine if Gordon really did take the XFW book in 97? Considering he's Nemesis's mentor, we could assume Nemesis would have joined XFW instead. Man, what a power combo that would have made.

EDIT: Holy Crap...that would make for a sweet "What if" mod. Gordon takes the XFW book, brings in Nemesis and wins the East Coast War, resulting in the much more Risque XFW product taking over the indies...leading to a whole bunch of workers going to XFW under much more crazier gimmicks. Jack Giedroyc as the Wrath of God maybe? Matt Sparrow gets over in XFW as his now infamous Eisenverse gimmick of the Pecker-Wrecker takes off instead of his poor run at DAVE that actually happened? The Peaks are famous for being EVEN more violent that their DAVE counter-parts? Easy Emma in 3 lesbian angles?!?!?!?!? The New Wave as a Militant White Power Tag Team WTF???!!!??!!?!?!

Might do that when I finally get around to buying TEW10

If i were to do a 'what if' situation, i'd have Nemesis go to RPW and then Gordon to XFW and then see the East Coast War go on well into cult and the 21st century.

But i can totally see that The Womanizer should be a user character. He's just... Awesome...

That's just one of the stories. Nobody remembers how it happened, if I'm orange on human, human on citrus, a weird ratio of both.
