Notes on the final ballot:

moon_lit_tears, praguepride and I collaborated to trim down the catagories with over six nominations. In similar fashion to last year we tried to follow some core principles: 1) making sure that as many different games were represented as possible, 2) where individuals were nominated multiple times (like a player nominated twice in a best performance category from different games) we tried to identify the stronger nomination and keep it, and 3) all other things being equal, the nominee with fewer total nominations would be given consideration in order to have as many community members contending for a Scummie as possible. We've tried our best to be fair, and we hope that is apparent.

Also completely off topic. Anyone that is good with math and statistics and averages would find this pretty cool...Me and Shadowed bowl on a league. He carries a 113 average tonight he bowled a 511 series. His very first 200+ game tonight. I am proud of him...Figured I would steal his thunder by telling you guys since he kicked my butt all three games tonight. :D

I'll get voting right away...for the games, SIN is a double-edge for me. It started off really frickingly great with the atmosphere and the high-quality King-like write-ups....yet somehow I lost interest in the setting during the game. I think it tried to do too much. No offence meant, Anti.

And, the mortician from Dust!

These are just the ones I remember because I was there and therefore were my pending choices, but I suppose they're not even Top 5 worthy! :( (I couldn't vote for some of the above, but would have if I could, at least.)

D_w_w claim of indy alien in Power rangers - He had ME convinced that he was who he said he was. It was probably THE most perfect fake claim I have ever seen as it fit the setting perfectly, the role was perfect, the powers and win conditions were perfect. If someone hadn't busdriven him and someone else, d_w_w could have easily lasted until the end game.



The Leaper role, for those of you who don't know, was that of Dr. Sam Beckett, the Quantum Leap guy. During the game I was given an objective and if I completed that objective, I could "leap" into another role with a new objective. I lept 3 times, ending up as a time-travelling Captain Picard beaming down from the Enterprise at night to ruffle through moon_lit_tear's undies. The neat thing was that apparently my objectives (given to me by Ziggy, the future computer) was hackable, as Astil was able to hack into it and change my objectives into inadvertently helping the terrorists win.



Best Serial Killer: Slim Jim not only was able to make the "SK-townie" deal early, but was able to stay alive even after town had exhausted possible scum and had started just lynching each other hoping to find scum. It was the choice between Slim Jim, a known Serial Killer, and other players who had town roles, were known to be town, and had even been in the write ups confirming their role. And we still lynched town over a known serial killer.

What's more, Slim Jim was able to get recruited by the cult and win right at the end as well.

If it is anything of worth I threw a vote on Astil on 3 different phases because I did not trust him.

Although it doesn't matter because the female votes didn't matter. :(

As much as I hate agreeing with Arrows, or even being in the same ballpark as his opinions (:p) there are some nominations that I don't think should be there at all. Several of the claim based ones are memorable, but not necessarily good... to use an example of an old claim of mine I never used, when I was Bowser I had planned to claim as a Save Point. Had I done that, and it had led to me winning the game for my team... that would be a best fake claim. Some of the current ones... not so much.

Nevertheless, it's just an opinion and mine often clashes with the popular one. My votes are all now in, though there were a few categories that I simply couldn't vote in. BIP-Cult for example... I would only be able to vote for 1 of those noms, and he's already guaranteed to win. :p

that's what I thought, but the issue at hand was that we had slim jim locked down and he proved himself to be very useful.

When someone wasn't active or revealing enough, we'd threaten to send the SK after them. Plus considering the sheer number of "bulletproof" claims made in that game...I think there were at least 4 (myself, optimus, Claire from heroes, and Slimer) we could point him at a bullet proof townie and put him on "hold."

He was on the "reserve lynch list" for awhile but the issue was that people were still dying even when we knew we had the "sk" locked down, so we knew there were other fish to fry, so to speak.

Yea, there's a lot of stuff I don't really see being all that great. First and foremost, success should be weighted far higher. There's a lot of stuff nominated that was interesting but not impressive.

I think next year we should have a council of HoF'ers set up the nominations and just have a suggestion thread and then let the masses choose the winners.

The way we have it now, we've got the few regular visitors to the site that even remember the year old games nominating whatever comes to mind. What gets in is normally what is pimped the earliest as it's more likely to be seconded.

With less enthusiasm and less active players, having open noms with 5 getting in, we don't necessarily end up with quality.

If he wins, there goes these awards really meaning anything as far as determining the "best". That'd represent more of an experiment in determining people's memories and how much effort they're willing to put into a ballot. (I'm not saying Slim Jim did badly or anything, but here's my case to my fellow voters if there's any left to vote.)

1. When the game ended, SJ wasn't a SK. Whether he should even be a valid nominee is questionable. I'd say he is, but the question dulls his case greatly in the face of all of the other nominees.

2. He didn't win as a SK. Only Rev won. That's an unprecedented achievement on GDS and it's not like he was an unkillable brute. He could have been lynched at any point in the game.

3. The town making a deal with a guy they know is a SK and then that town allowing him to live is not a mark of individual achievement. That's not even opinion, it's part of the definition of "individual", which is what SK's are. The town chose not to lynch obvious scum. Even if he was able to convince them to let him live, that doesn't change the fact he was found out and allowed to live for no clear reason.

4. Accepting a town deal is horribly against the spirit of the game and I would support a move to make it harder to happen. Once you're found out to the point that making a deal is even remotely brought up, you've lost. Your only chance at victory is total townie collapse and/or some sort of Deus Ex Machina swoops down and saves you (and we kind of saw a bit of both in Slim's case).

In my opinion, all 4 of the other nominees were more effective SK's. Being the town's slave and limping to a win isn't a SK performance (especially when you're no longer a SK at that point).

Mjd, honestly I don't think Rev deserves the praise you are giving him, in my opinion. You gave him a bulletproof, almost unlynchable character and then you seem to act surprised that he won.

That kind of role is completely unprecedented. I doubt even if he was discovered sooner that the town could have garnered all the necessary votes to lynch him. He required what, every single possible vote -1 (his own, duh) to be lynched.

I'm betting if he had been discovered like, Day 1, he still would have lasted until the end. People would have tried to lynch him probably several times but in such a large game, getting that massive number of votes is nigh impossible. Then once people realized he was unlynchable they would have thrown vigs & scum hitters at him. Then when they discover he was bulletproof as well, they probably would have just quit.

I think it's a good thing that the true nature of his role was never discovered because I know I wouldn't be too pleased to discover a serial killer using god-mode in a mafia game ;)

But again, this is personal opinions. that's why we have a nomination thread. I view the fact that Slim was able to survive and win without god-mode a much larger accomplishment. Sure he didn't win as an SK per se, but he was still able to win, which in that game was a challenge in and of itself. I thought I'd won 3 times and still lost :D

Your opinion has been noted and is probably reflected in your votes. So has mine. Just like the true spirit of mafia, the masses will vote and the results will be what they are, whether you or I agree with them or not.


If Rev had been given an ordinary SK role, I'd be right behind you that it was amazing. But he didn't. He had, for all intents and purposes, an invincible character that also had a night kill. The ONLY possible way I think he could have lost would be if scum completely wiped out town and gang voted him.

Democracy is always an amusing concept... to managle a quote that The Two told me a while back "idiocy multiplied by a million is not genius". Basically, just because lots of people like something doesn't mean it's actually a good idea. :)

Once Pokemon is over, I've been given leave to release the sheet I set up for the game. Was going to offer to set up sheets for whomever wanted them in future games, if they liked what they saw in this one. Mjd, honestly I don't think Rev deserves the praise you are giving him, in my opinion. You gave him a bulletproof, almost unlynchable character and then you seem to act surprised that he won.

That kind of role is completely unprecedented. I doubt even if he was discovered sooner that the town could have garnered all the necessary votes to lynch him. He required what, every single possible vote -1 (his own, duh) to be lynched.

I'm betting if he had been discovered like, Day 1, he still would have lasted until the end. People would have tried to lynch him probably several times but in such a large game, getting that massive number of votes is nigh impossible. Then once people realized he was unlynchable they would have thrown vigs & scum hitters at him. Then when they discover he was bulletproof as well, they probably would have just quit.

I think it's a good thing that the true nature of his role was never discovered because I know I wouldn't be too pleased to discover a serial killer using god-mode in a mafia game ;)

I find your lack of faith in common sense disturbing. He was going to be lynched before he came up with his fake claim, a fake claim that was a brilliant and risky choice that the remaining town (and scum) players knew was a 50/50 shot at being real. And, no, he didn't absolutely need every vote. There was a politician that could have helped out that simply elected not to use his ability ever. Add in the multivoter too.

Lord Zedd in Power Rangers needed every town and ranger vote to be lynched and he was lynched and the town didn't even know for positive he WAS Zedd. When you consider Rev was a constant night presence, if he was found out, it's not remotely impossible for the town to assume he needs full power at some point. Especially when "full power" means 3 votes, the same total that was amassed to lynch another player when the game came down to 4 players and Rev narrowly avoided being the one to go. Not only did the "all votes minus his" scenario occur, but he was 50/50 with another scum as it went and came off lucky. Note all of this occurred in a worst case scenario where no one looked at him until it was literally make-or-break!!!

Your definition of invincible is off considering he nearly lost. Your definition of possible is off too considering you take widespread idiocy for granted and seem to ignore what actually happened (meaning exactly what you consider "impossible", just to a different player).

He was SUPPOSED to holdout until it came down to as few as 8 or 9 players. He made it down to 4 without being looked at. How do you expected a forced killer role to have any chance in a game that isn't fundamentally wonky (partially by my hand at attempted control when Panix left for a while) without abusing a deal with the town that only paid off because of townie foolishness and a win condition/alignment that given player had no hand in acquiring and wasn't at all related to his SK role? Honestly, Slim Jim's actual merit aside, how was he the best SK? That's the category in question, so the fact he won doesn't matter, just the SK performance! Heck, I was just using Rev as an example as he's my choice. How did Slim do better as a SK than SF? SF didn't job out to the town. Sure, he wasn't swooped up by a silly game mechanic, but maybe that's your thing... ;)

Note that I'm leveraging my right to "discuss, lobby, cajole and beg for votes as {I} see fit". I'm not expecting you to change your mind. Expect praguepride to change his mind? :rolleyes: :p This is for the undecided. I use strong words is all.

I nominated you for best Mafia player, your claim was part of what you did that game that I liked, but then protecting MJ from SF is what really got people on your side. From there, eliminating most of the town leaders we were able to make them mislynch some of their own, and won the game.

IMO Best mafia player is a bigger honor, and it reflects the fact that while your claim was believable, it was all the other things you and your group did that granted us victory.

I don't recall that. Hopefully I didn't tear the guy down until after he was lynched (meaning in the lynch write-up).

That seems fitting for the fiasco that was the town effort in that game. The thieves and The Shape at least tried pretty hard, but the night actions were universally hindering and, in fact, most of The Shape's ideas ended up being misguiding.

Also, it was "Oblivion" mafia. Morrowind is a whole different place with whole different characters from Cyrodiil (where Oblivion takes place).

I also think machinesxe playing in character as the cornerstone of the game even when I, for the sake of everyone else, repeatedly told him via PM to read the freakin' link I gave him...

Speaking of boredom. I am sitting at work looking at wikipedia pages for TV shows based off movies. It seems MASH, The Odd Couple, Stargate and Buffy are the only shows better then the Movies. A lot of the others were just horrible or at least the ones I remember. Though I can’t say I didn’t watch them (thinking of Bill and Ted, Back to the Future and so on).

A few jump out though as sure not as good as the source but damn fun and often quite different. I mean Beetlejuice the cartoon was great. Weird Science was a fun show. The Real Ghostbusters was my favorite show as a kid (and Ghostbusters was and still is my favorite movie).
