View Full Version : Mandatory January 2010 Start Date?

Sorry if this has already been explained somewhere but what's the reasoning behind the demo only letting you play the month of January in 2010? I recently finished updating my database from TEW08 where my game is currently in November of 2011, yet I can't play a game with it because there's a data block preventing me from starting in that date. What's the difference between playing the single month of January 2010 or November 2011?

Probably because if it allowed you to start in November 2011, it wouldnt stop the demo in December 2011 and you'd have yourself a free game.
Just a guess.

What's so special about January 2010 that it would only stop after that month? Shouldn't the game just acknowledge that you've played four weeks and the demo time is up?

That's like asking what's the difference between being allowed to play the first or last level. It's a demo and it's locked to the start of the dataset that comes with the game. Being able to play other mods and any of the long term features is something you're supposed to get the full game for. :)

The block is only allowing you to play that one month because that is when the default database starts. If you set your database to January 2010, you'll be able to play it.

I tried to set it to 2028 so I could see if there were any new "new workers" added. Ah well, I can wait 2 days.

It's to stop piracy. If the date wasn't fixed, theoretically there would be ways of getting around the trial limitations. There is nothing "special" about January 2010, it was chosen because it matches the default data.

I honestly don't think it's enough time to experience things like how different building wrestlers is. If it was like 6 months of game play that'd be sweet. It expires in the same manner and you'd be able to fully experience one of the most important elements of the game - time passing.
Still, I just played like a week of the demo than just decided not to play it until the game came out because it'd be hard to play a proper game on TEW 08 until then.

Play TCW. 5 shows and you can start up a developmental from the start.

There are some gamers who don't play TEW more than a month at a time.
6 months would be the equivalent of giving them a free game.

Go to the editor, workers, filter them so their game status is "Yet to Debut."

I would love a 6 month demo. The longest running game I have is like 9 months. I hardly ever get past 4-5. It would be beyond stupid for Adam to give away 6 months of game time for free. He'd lose me as a paying customer.

I know, I just like seeing the letter grades. Its much easier to explore in game.

If the demo lasted 6 months (with all of the features included) I probably wouldn't even buy the game for a few months. At least not until I completely familiarized myself with it. The one month is a tease... that's what a demo should be!
I've actually been playing TEW08 quite a bit still. Until I purchase the full version of TEW2010 (whenever that may be) I'll be sticking with '08 for a while. :)

A six month demo would equate to 30 shows for a big promotion running four TV shows and a PPV a month. Maybe even more for a touring promotion, I haven't investigated enough to estimate.
That speaks for itself.

A six month demo would be ridiculous. I'd probably still buy the game out of habit, but if I was on the fence there's no way I would buy it. Be happy you can play the one month demo as often and as long as you want, a lot of demos (including Wrestling Spirit) expire.
